#a filler arc in Boruto

I say we need another novel centered around the sand sibs, one that's actually good, not like Gaara hidden. Like GH is decent enough, but what ruins it is the unnecessary love interest plot they had to shove in, cause ofc, not even Gaara could escape the hetero-sexualization of the series. If the people in charge of the novels/Naruto movies/anime, don't want to animate Gaara hidden, or give us a sand sibs spin-off, the least they can do is another novel. One free of love interests and romantic plots, and is completely centered on how much these 3 love each other.

Really wish we had more Naruto movies or novels centered on the blank period, but not on random missions or that stuff.

I want to see Naruto learning about politics and Kakashi struggling to build a new Konoha now that most of its shadows are gone.

I want to hear about the how Ino, Shikamaru and Choji came back from the war as clan leaders and how they transitioned to their new roles while still mourning the lost of their parents.

I want to read about Tenten and Lee adjusting to the fact Neji is not there, that every other team came back with their three members but they didn't.

I want to know what the civilians did, if Hinata and Hanabi pushed for some reformations on the clan, about the kids who went home without parents and if Naruto saw them and thought of himself, if Kakashi made new laws to avoid future cases of kids ending up like Sasuke or Naruto, lonely and rejected for no good reason.

Do they have ptsd about the tsukuyomi? What about the first Kage reunion where they fight post war? How often did they have to deal with people stopping them to talk about the war, since they were heroes? When they sat to decide how the story would be told, who was there? What did they say?

I want to read about Sasuke going back to the Uchiha compound and Naruto staring at Minato's face on the Hokage mountain and reading Obito's name again on the memorial and Sakura an endless string of ghosts crossing her door on the hospital, kids and teens and adults searching a deeper medicine, something to close the wounds the war left behind. Did Sai ever paint how the world is after it almost ended? Did Yamato ever tell anyone who wished he wasn't the one taking care of Orochimaru?

I don't know, it's cool to see their kids growing up and seeing them as parents, but I want to read about the healing and the step by step, waking up to realize the war was won but your body doesn't know it, going out to the whiplash of seeing a new world developing, childhood over, innocence lost, do you dare to dream about new things just yet?

Tbh, I hate the "That's Not Naruto Cannon" People.

Because they always end up being the people who site "non-cannon" material when it suits their head cannon. Then rejects any "non-cannon" material that goes agaisnt their head cannon. Like they don't genuinely care about cannon, they just want their blorbos to act the way they do in their head.

They are also the first to be like, "I wish we saw more of this character/place/idea," or "I wonder what would happen if this character did that." Like, they explored that already in the officially released non-cannon material you hate. Sure some of it's not cannon-cannon, but it's the closest we will ever get to a cannon answer to your many questions about the Naruto Universe.

Like the filler episodes are created by the same people who made the cannon anime episodes. They had offical character guidelines they had to follow. They had offical plot guidelines they had to follow. They had offical setting guidelines they had to follow. They were given a lot of direction on what they can and can't get away with. If you watch the filler, you can tell they knew where the story was going to go well before it reached that point in the manga. So its much closer to cannon than any of the little reddit What If (bassicly fan-fiction) post.

There's also no true list of what is or isn't cannon in Naruto. So to go by the most purest form of of what's cannon, the Naruto Manga, you end up rejecting a lot of things that can easily classify as cannon. That Kishimoto himself worked on. If you allow more into Cannon, you need a whole map of what does and doesn't count. It's so annoying.

Kishimoto did not make Naruto alone. Not even the manga, there was an entire team that worked on the Naruto Manga. It had been a team effort from the start. Like cannon doesn't need to be personally touched by Kishimoto. Naruto's owned by a company, not a person.

Let yourself have fun and enjoy the "non-cannon" stuff.

so i've been reading Boruto and enjoying it and kinda wanna give some perspective on how Dire the anime is

the manga opens with a recap arc of the movie, standard fare for continuations after a movie. You know how long it takes for the anime? Six arcs totaling 50 episodes of filler

So after that they're gonna go right into the next arc, right? Establish our big villains, right? WRONG. Another EIGHT ARCS OF FILLER

These two arcs, totalling about 15 chapters, take a whopping 151 episodes to complete

So I'm watching boruto now (sorry) and honestly I think Mitsuki is a really funny character because he's always saying things like "Boruto is the sun in my sky" and "I like doing whatever Boruto likes doing" and Boruto is just kind of like oh haha yeah I forgot you say that

Also if I go with the KisaIta thing. I feel he could probably win Kisame over without. Too much difficulty. But would have a harder time with Itachi soley because he couldn't read Itachi near as well. Like.

He's assigned as a temporary third of their squad while the organization is figuring out what they're doing since it isn't like yknow. Kakuzu or Sasori will be much help in refining his talents (Water based jutsu and kenjutsu - something both Kisame and Itachi are familiar with plus just. Them generally being clan + if Shizuma awakens his sharingan [which I have so many thoughts on oh boy] at least he'd have someone to train him. Plus Kisame to watch for his loyalty since tbf the last time a guy went "Let me join!!" It didn't go well [Orochimaru].

Him joining and being like. Okay. I'm in the era of conflict. Fuck yeah. This feels so much closer to the concept of home vs anything I've felt in a long while. He's feeling it, absolutely settling in well. With his general quietness/politeness (Kakuzu + Sasori are happy he's out of their way), being absolutely down to wreck havoc with them when Hidan or Deidara are getting up to shit, and moving like a machine on missions - absolutely having the time of his life while being so efficient and out of the way it actually helps Kisame and Itachi on their missions despite him being substantially weaker. Just. Aiding them both and utterly triving falling into bloodlust^tm with Kisame.

But anyway. Him just. Not being able to figure out why Itachi doesn't seem to like him (Itachi doesn't hate him he's just. Trying to slide the fucking kid into his plans and trying to decide how to handle him. Mission wise and emotionally.)

But Shizuma just. Absolutely obliterating the enemy and looking over his shoulder like See. I'm Strong. I Belong Here. And absolutely falling apart over the realization that. Fuck. He's always wanted validation for his existence deep down. But having got it from Kisame. He wants it from Him too. What does he have to do to get it. And just. Losing his mind trying to understand why he's not getting it bc. Look!! He's ruthless, just like Itachi. Look!! He's clever in battle, just like Itachi. Look!! He took down like 10 guys himself, isn't that something to look at!!

Just. Shizuma being faced with the realization that what he wants is not Just Bloodshed. That he was *Built* for bloodshed and that he's *Good* at bloodshed so he *Does* bloodshed and deserves to be acknowledged because *Hes Doing It Right, He Is Right, Doesn't Itachi See That? Doesn't The World See That?*

Meanwhile poor Itachi is watching from the sidelines like oh. Great. Parenthood. Now I can juggle the emotional crisises of a fourteen year old plus mine. Okay. Fuck. Good job, universe. Give the man that is simply a pile of emotional baggage wrapped in a cloak ANOTHER bag to carry and keep track of. Great idea.

Time travel au with Shizuma where he ends up in the past and attempts to join the Akastuki by offering them information on the future. Giving them intel he learned in school/from stories to avoid their eventual defeat (/eventual 'peace' in the mist). And being horrified as a good chunk of the organization is like "Maybe we should speed run this if we have a clean shot to achieving peace actually" while he is there going "no no no listen that is NOT the message I am trying to deliver"

2. Mikoto. Absolutely stunning wonderful perfect woman. Miss her every day.

3. Itachi well okay. It’s like how time is always like “person of the year isn’t always positive!”. He compels me and his relationship with sasuke is interesting enough to merit #3

4. Madara. Go peepaw!!

5. Fugaku. I am not anti fugaku in any way I think he is just a guy. I think he’s just a father who is unsure of how to relate to his gay son. But he DOES care and he does love sasuke.

6. Obito I’m so sorry obito I wish I cared more about you I try so hard but he just does nothing for me. Maybe this will change when I finally get to reading the war arc but I am largely ambivalent on him.

7. Izuna he’s not really anything but it’s fine. He’s a flashback dead brother and that’s all he needs to be.

8. Boruto. I’m not reading boruto ever but he’s naruto and sasuke’s son right. Ik he’s got Naruto’s last name and is blonde but from all the manga caps I’ve seen the uchiha genes really did come through.

Hot take: Yamato stole Anko's role

No disrespect towards you Yamato fam, but, in hindsight, what kind of purpose did Yamato serve, beyond being later reduced to a comic relief, who is horrendously incompetent at his job with keeping Naruto's Kyuubi chakra in-check? ...Like, seriously, what is the point of this character? If we needed insight on how corrupt Danzo was, we already got Sai for that, and even he is not that interesting to me. But for who he was, he served a grander purpose. But Yamato, why is he even thing? He feels so... weirdly shoehorned into Kakashi's backstory, as if, "he was always there", that kind of vibe.

Kinda like Lars Alexandersson from Tekken 6...

Meanwhile, someone like Anko, could have easily taken his place, especially during the Tenchi Bridge story arc, and provide us with her impeccable insight on Orochimaru, as she knew this vile man, inside out. She could have shown to Naruto, Sakura and Sai, what training must have looked like for Sasuke, while training under her former teacher's guidance, and how vindictive this snake man really is. As, let's not kid ourselves, he did play a significant part in Sasuke ending up the way he did, personality-wise. Plus, it would have been a nice way to show, how much faith Kakashi is willing to put in Anko, considering that, in Part 1, filler or not, they seemed to have some tiny ounce and hint of familiarity between the two. And she doesn't exactly seem like the type of person to be "incompetent" (Seriously, FUCK. OFF. BORUTO. Anko did NOT deserve to be reduced to THIS.), she could have shown off her jutsu prowess in many ways than one, even Sealing jutsu, considering she was trained by Orochimaru himself, who had access to such an ability, which he had shown off in Part 1 against Naruto.

So, no, I say, Anko's spot in the story, truly was unintentionally stolen by Yamato, who, in my opinion, is just flat, boring and doesn't have that much depth to himself, you could have easily given this Wood release jutsu specialty to Anko, too, in all honesty.

Plus, I would have loved to see Anko having some mild form of satisfaction in seeing Naruto tearing Orochimaru to pieces with his fox chakra, before then needing to restrain him. I dunno, man, in hindsight, this feels like an Any % Speedrun on how easily you can waste a character, that deserved to have way more screentime than what she was given, she is not even playable in the videogames, outside of the PS2 titles.

I HAVE BEEN THINKING

Soo a month or two ago I watched the opening and endings of Boruto for the first time, and while I think they are nice and don't hate the characters or anything like that i couldn't stop thinking of how good it could be if the Naruto ending was just a little bit different and more satisfying for all the characters and overall plot.

I would love Boruto an Himawari and that other child they have if the NaruHina ship had ANYTHING in the canon, I would accept Sarada existing if she was Sakura child exclusively or they managed to make SasuSaku non toxic. I would love Orochimaru's child if the show actually made Orochimaru pay for anything that he has done instead of making him a comedic character.

I would adore the Boruto series if it showed how Naruto changed the Shinobi world like he promised to. If the hyugas changed to never allow something like the side family seal to be used again(and if Neji was still alive instead of following the hyugas destiny/curse) . If Konoha made anything to compensate Sasuke for the Uchihas massacre. If the Konoha people ever apologized for the treatment they gave to Naruto and so many more small things like that. But I know for a fact that none of that happens, so even though the colors and songs of the boruto series are nice I can't enjoy them because I know the story never progressed. And I wanted to enjoy them.

I can't fix the series nor I have the intention to do that, I just wish it was different because I like what Kisimoto was doing until the last bit of the war arc.

Idk I just needed to ramble a bit about this, because I do plan to make a next gen au with my headcanons of the story, picking and choosing from canon and filler. But I'm making it with the bitter taste of knowing that the next gen already exists and could have been perfect if it had just little adjustments.

I finished the special story in Connections and it got me to bawl my eyes out so bad. That story was so much more meaningful and emotional and impactful than the entirety of Naruto itself. What the fuck do you mean it was written by Kishimoto????? He did NOT write something for a side story in one of the ultimate ninja storm games and make it better than anything he's ever done before. There's just no fucking way.

Hi I came from your Naruhina Parent criticism post and I have to say I agree. Hinata really lets Naruto get off with not spending time with his kids. Also Naruto is awful for not prioritising his family. I lowkey think he places his family and the village on the same level in his mind. And struggles to make the distinction between them. Family is Village and Village is Family. Which naturally doesn't sit right with Boruto. Naruto should prioritise his family first and then the village. He has a responsibility towards his family as a father. There are other people like Shikamaru to handle village matters as and when needed.

Thank you! That post started off as a mad rant and someday I'll work on a cohesive meta post about it (it might take long because unfortunately, NH family dynamic reminded me so much of my own).

You're right, anon. Hinata is lenient towards Naruto's behavior. My two cents on that matter and I'll speak on hypotheticals so take it with a grain of salt: I think it's because at some point, Hinata perceived Naruto as a hero who saved her from bullies (when I found out about this in The Last movie, I couldn't help but do a bombastic side eye at everyone involved in that movie) so there's an implication of hero worship there--introducing the part where our heroes can do no wrong and/or overlooking their flaws--and unfortunately, it's plausible due to the consistency of Hinata not addressing the issue.

About Naruto being awful for not prioritizing his family, unfortunately, true. However, he's not the scum awful type. From the way I see it, he's overcompensating. Being Hokage was his dream and he finally achieved it but the position was the means to get the villagers' acknowledgement. Naruto never really got the chance to work around his issues and trauma. It's realistically reflected on his work ethics as Hokage. The whole "everyone in the village is my family" shtick would make sense of Naruto didn't marry. It's the same line of belief that the Third Hokage had and his relationship with Asuma hadn't been smooth sailing--I've observed the same thing with Naruto and Boruto as well.

And the last sentence reminded me of Naruto being hyperindependent. That man got clones running around the village to do errands--part of the grand overcompensating scheme. I swear, Itachi called Naruto out about it in the war arc and told him that he shouldn't do everything by himself and it's okay to depend on your friends. With the way that the sequel conveniently threw everything under the rug, it's evident that they did not take that small detail into consideration.

I'm glad that somehow the NH, the kids, and their household situation isn't as triggering like the first part of that series (some of it are fillers, the point still stands) but NH aren't ready to be parents by all means. That entire Boruto thing was resolved with Sasuke in the picture which is amusing but the issue wouldn't grow that big if Hinata had done something.

NARUTO STANS I NEED YOUR HELP

I finished watching Naruto + Shippuden a few weeks ago and I’m so sad I put the show off for DECADES. I never watched it growing up despite watching a lot of anime and all my friends talking about it.

The only thing I knew about Naruto was that it was about ninjas and there was some bad guy with long hair.

Now that I’m into the fandom, I really wish I was in the loop while the show aired. Naruto seems to be forgotten by the general public and the fandom spaces seem really small. I vaguely heard all of the online discussion back in the day was on facebook or Naruto forums which are hard to access now.

I NEED THE KNOW THE TEA, EVERYONES THOUGHTS OF ANYTHING WHILE THE SHOW AIRED. Like what were the biggest theories, discussions, discourse, what did people think about the story, plot, characters, dub vs sub, anything. What were the community memes back in the day? What were peoples reactions to the arcs or major or minor plot lines.

Like what did people think about Sasuke ever changing outfits, or the five Kage summit arc, or the MEMES BACK IN THE DAY?!?!

I truly missed out and now no one really discusses this show outside of nostalgia because of Boruto. Oh also what did people feel about Boruto? And also the Naruto movies because there are like a dozen of them and the show aired for 15 years. What did people feel about the filler and flashbacks? How was the fandom like during anime cons or during the school yard/water cooler breaks with your workers if you were working when it aired?
