Moments I'm being completely normal about from episode three of Never Let Me Go:

That Nueng really looked at Palm with his eyes saying "Ruin My Life" and Palm had to look away even though his fingers lingered on Nueng's neck

That Nueng's eyes say he wants Palm to ruin his life each time he looks at him, so he mustered up the courage to look at Palm with his face showing his feelings and asked him to stay with him

When Palm worried that he scared Nueng, Nueng assured him he wasn't afraid of Palm

He was surprised

Because Nueng realized Palm did it because he cares deeply for Nueng

Although Nueng can't protect Palm in the same way, he made sure to give Palm happiness and protection in the best ways he knows (and he will buy his guy those shoes!)

Even though they are constantly being watched, they find moments to share with each other even if it's in their dreams

Honestly, I'm still stuck in part two. The entire portion of them dancing while sneaking glances at each other was this episode's mitochondria = the Powerhouse

But glances aren't enough for Nueng

And those moments of honesty expose them

The fact that Palm looked shocked and Nueng looked hurt when Phum called Palm Nueng's underling, but neither were bothered by Palm being called Nueng's boyfriend nor denied it

And when they teased each other, Nueng remained upset that Ben referred to Palm as Nueng's servant when Nueng specifically called Palm his friend while Palm stated he didn't care because Nueng could call him whatever he wanted *being completely normal*

Nueng's body language was distant towards Ben compared to the previous episodes, and the place Ben asked Nueng about his friendship with Palm is the same spot Cake's girlfriend questioned him about his friendship with Eiw in My Only 12%, then he broke up with her.

Chopper was happy to see his cousin

And happier to see Palm, which showed he is just as lonely as Nueng with no one to reach out to, and the one time he did try to connect with someone

That person, Ben, tossed him aside

Chopper talking about Ben brought forth every emotion that he thought he buried. His demeanor changed as soon as Nueng asked about Ben. He was sad. He was flustered. He was happy. *NOT normal about that that lip bite*

And Ben took that away.

Thought Fiddlestan was a purely comedic ship for a while but now I get it, I see the light. It’s about a man who nurtures and cares for others to the point of heartbreak meeting a man who doesn’t remember what it’s like for anyone to care about him. It’s about them being warm together around the absence of someone they both love. It’s about Fiddleford’s innate domesticity comforting a man whose deepest desire was to come home. It’s about falling in love with the same face again but in a new context that heals your past trauma. Shrimpy is a little insecure around other women after going to an all boys academy and it’s especially apparent during Noble Bell College’s culture exchange when they see their favorite boys swamped by the attention of beautiful, powerful, female mages. I imagine Malleus would be sweet and sincere but still fail at comforting them.

I like a lot of the creatures in it; the showrunner is a really fantastic horror artist and it really comes through in the aesthetics of the show. I especially like this hand dragon, though there's a lot of other great designs:

As for the show on the whole, it's not bad but not really for me? Early on it really feels like it's schtick will be that it's a subversion of harry potter-esque stories, where the protagonist wants to go on an adventure similar to her favorite fantasy book but instead ends up hanging out with the "villain" (who's actually just othered)/the magic school turns out to be secretly oppressive/the world is kind of gross and spooky instead of clean and approachable... but as it goes along I think it ends up being a pretty by the books YA fantasy thing played mostly straight, and it isn't super interesting or funny or scary or anything besides that. Which admittedly was probably to its benefit, I think a lot of its popularity comes from it being this very tropeish and not-uncomfortable magic school/found family story that's actually queer, like I genuinely think this is hugely appealing to the average cartoon fan on twitter, but I'm just not personally into it in comparison to a lot of it's contemporaries

one of the things that feels so clear on rereads but so many people miss the first time they read the way of kings is shallans PTSD. I think part of it is the way it gets overshadowed by the constant unending tragedy of kaladin's story, its easy to slot shallan in as the young naive rich girl and not look much deeper. Part of it also is the way shallan drastically understates her own trauma. she says that she's timid, she doesn't like confrontation, she talks about her father's temper, but she was the lucky one because it was never directed at her. There are so many things in her first few chapters alone that are textbook PTSD, the way she freezes and shuts down any thought process that gets too close to her father's death, the flashback when jasnah gets angry at her, how she dissociates when she draws. It's so obvious if you know what you're looking for, but just subtle enough, especially when it's compared to kaladin's trauma, that a lot of people miss it at first. anyway I would defend shallan davar with my life.

A devastating and confusing thing about the Fallout setting, when you explore the pre-war aspects, is what the creators think about pre-war America. In the first games we only get hints of the pre-war world, but they seem to be some sort of wild fascist nation invading Canada. In Fallout 1, the first thing we're introduced to of the pre-war society is seeing a soldier shoot civilians and laughing.

Now, for the first 2 games and New Vegas we don't really know much. What we know is that there's a fascist military group known as the enclave who were a sort of US deep state even before the war, and that the government teamed up with corporate interests to preform vaguely MKULTRA-ish experiments with the Vaults. Basically, the government was an extreme version of the 50s American jingoism and McCarthyism.

This is well and dandy, I guess issues come up more when we get to the later games, especially 4, where it seems like none of this extreme plotting and societal civil unrest which would exist is seen. The society as presented in 4 also seems quite progressive, gay people are featured in the opening, and none of the baggage of say, civil rights not existing are included. Now on a baseline, I don't want settings to be more conservative, homophobic and sexist etc., but it becomes a very confusing setting when it's displayed both as this jingoist extreme thing with fascist tendencies aswell as a progressive place where everyone is seemingly equal. If you're focusing on the 50s as your setting, and American nationalism in the 50s, then you can't have McCarthyism spoofs and anti-communism as a societal paranoia norm while also general equality is the norm without misunderstanding why McCarthyism and nationalist jingoism is bad. A massive harm done in anti-communist paranoia is how it degrades and vilifies any progressive movements (women's rights, civil rights, homosexuality) as being morally un-American and therefore connected to communism. To ignore this just makes any critique of MacCarthyism and jingoism weird!

Basically, pre-war America in Fallout 4 becomes this both sides thing where America is both pure and equal and white fences in every instance that we see as the player (the intro), while also supposedly being this dystopic MacCarthyist hellscape that's broadcasting gladly about their war crimes in Canada, and wants to root out communism. I guess the only fix for this issue without getting into the fine print like they had to do is just not to focus too much on the pre-war world.
