Dp x Dc : Card game soul edition

Ok I got an idea for a ghost king Danny au this is inspired by the idea that hell use souls as currency (from that one Ao3 fic I cant remember the title of) and that Danny is now aware that souls are traded use and stuff for forever he really doesn’t like that, but he can’t stabilise the economy of hell, so he now has create something to replace hells currency or change how the soul contract works.

The idea he comes up is simple give soul contracts and expiry date and that expiry date is dependent on what they sold their soul for away for if somebody sold their soul to save their wife, the amount is different from somebody who sort their soul for $1 billion, but the issue of doing this is that a lot demand might be unwilling, and that might be a riot I mean sure Danny could just squash them, but it will be annoying and they could continuously do that a lot, so we have to create a way that the Demons were willing to change to the expiry date.

So that he heard about how the demons where calling John Constantine trading game, and he thought and had an idea he should make it all a game, so contracts would become a cart that reflects the person soul their states would be based on personality, how they die, and what they sold their soul for, and demons could use them to battle and trade also people who sold their soul multiple times would have multiple lesser copy cards that when combine creates a full card and items that belongs to them and can be used with them.

Also there is going to be an infinite realm game shop to buy the souls in exchange for artifacts and sell item cards in exchange for souls or artifacts of the demons.

How the gameplay could work

Every card that is played in the game winner takes all

You could boost a card by sacrificing some of its lifespan

You could unlock a second form of the cards when sacrificing 50% of its current lifespan unlocking unique skills, boasting current skills and double stats

You could sacrifice the card using all the lifespan, for a four times boosts of everything of the cards the unique skills and boosts all cards on play

Certain cards when on the same play boost each other they are mostly people who where connected in life

Certain cards are one time use such as the souls of sacrifice (as specially if they are unwilling), depends on personality, how it affects the board and players

Some mechanics

Personity: affects type, and stats and what items affects them the most and least

Sold soul for what: affects skills and how long must they be a contract before they are free

Death: affects skills, type and stats including weaknesses and immunities, if any

Life achievement: affects stats mainly and skills movement also how often they can use their skills and cooldowns, and special conditions and skills that appears if specific things pertaining to their life happens on play

Items: found either via collecting soul related via if they sold their soul multiple times when combining sometimes there is a item card given, or if bought via the IR Card shop in a blind box manner, cards can also be traded in for special higher powered items

I think Danny after thinking all of this he would 100% go to John to ask for his opinion, cause as much as a headache he is right he is still his soul he’s talking about and John will be like fine as long if it’s not forever and not torture

Fettuccine’s Guide to Your Ghostly Gamer Boyfriend

BEN can be quite the catch with how sweet and cute he is, especially considering once he’s dating you he’d do anything he can to keep that pretty smile on your face and joy blooming inside of you. Of course, he’s not hard to date, but there are some tips that come with dating him, so here are some things to keep in mind. 

1. Always check your surroundings, especially if he calls out for you. When you’re a ghost, who needs stairs? Always remember to check both ceilings, walls, and floors when you’re walking about, because you never know just where you might see his head peeking out from. 

2. Remember to carry snacks on you. Even the dead like to snack around, so when you find yourself visiting BEN, make sure to have some candy or nice of his favorite snacks on you. Gifting him with snacks always means he’s going to return the favor and gift you snacks too, and it also means you’re gonna have him cuddling up to you, covering you in happy kisses to thank you for doing so. Recommended choices are Doritos (specifically Cool Ranch or Spicy Sweet Chili), Goldfish (he prefers the original Cheddar flavor), Cheez-Its (White Cheddar), Rice Krispies, Fruit Roll-Ups/By the Foot, or just about any candy you can get your hands on. Peanut butter candy scores you bonus points though. Obtaining any of these snacks for him makes him feel extra happy and loved and has him turning into a puddle in your arms.

3. This next one might seem obvious, but be interested in video games. You don’t have to be good at them or play a bunch of them yourself, but having an interest in them in general is essential. He loves playing with you, and he’s happy to teach you some tricks and play at your pace, but he also likes showing off for you. Watch him play a single player he’s really good at and cheer him on and you’ll have him feeling just about as happy as he gets. It makes him feel super loved and appreciated to have you so excited over his interests, and he always returns the favor for partaking in your interests as well. 

4. Send him silly photos of yourself. I’m sure we’ve all had a moment where someone takes a particularly bad photo of us and our knee-jerk reaction is to ask them to delete it, but you should do the opposite with BEN. He loves photography and he loves taking extremely flattering pictures of you and saving them to look at later, but he tries to avoid getting silly ones of you because he doesn’t know if it’ll upset you and quite frankly he’s too anxious to ask. Set him at ease by sending him an especially silly photo of yourself every now and then. It’ll really, really make him giddy and excited, and he’ll always send you an equally goofy photo of himself back so you’re even. Those photos you send him always end up becoming his favorite because you’re being unapologetically yourself in them. 

5. Let him ramble to you. BEN feels anxious with dominating conversations, but there are times when he really wants to rant and rave about things to you. Allowing him to do so and actually listening to him (even occasionally asking questions or making remarks in response) decreases his general anxiety about it and makes him feel much, much more comfortable with you. It allows him to get out his rambles, and it lets him share his interests with you, so it’s a winning situation.

6. Sacrifice your sleep or help reel him in. BEN, as a ghost, does not need to sleep. You, as a human, do need to. He gets so used to never sleeping that sometimes he forgets that you can’t stay up extremely late every single night and that you need to be in bed before the sun comes up. When it gets close to the time you’d actually like to go to bed, start settling down in bed and offering him some cuddles. Cuddles always relax him and put him at peace, so snuggling the fuck out of him is one way to prevent him from getting late-night zoomies and keeping you awake all night. He’ll adapt pretty easily if you keep at it. 

7. Speaking of cuddles, if you’re gonna date BEN you’ve gotta be okay with being super affectionate. This gamer is extremely touch-starved and at most points in the day wants nothing more than to be wrapped up in your arms receiving all your attention. Give him hugs and kisses whenever you see him, even if it’s in passing through the hallway, and make sure to cuddle up with him when you’re both alone. Sit in his lap or let him sit in yours, lay down together, sit side by side with an arm thrown over your shoulders. He’s basically just a needy puppy when it comes down to it and he thrives on your touch.

8. Have a sense of humor and appreciate his memes. BEN shows affection by sending you a bunch of funny memes, TikToks, and YouTube videos he thinks you’ll find really funny. You don’t have to like all of them, but take the time to look at them and send some back to him. He tries to curate it over time so he sends only stuff you’ll enjoy, so if you don’t like a particular variety be sure to tell him. He enjoys the back and forth of sharing things with you so much. 

9. Be prepared to accept the fact that you’ll probably be the chef in your relationship. BEN… Well, to say the least, is not allowed in the kitchen. There are very few things he can actually make, and although he tries his best, he really is not that great at cooking things and��if it were up to him he could survive off of cereal. You don’t have to be a five star chef, but it would probably be good for both of you if you could make something other than hot pockets. 

10. The final, and one of the most important, of tips is to… Be yourself. BEN spends a lot of his time with a mask on presenting a facade because he’s too anxious to really open up to people and expose the inner, depressive, and traumatized sides of himself. Having a partner who can be 100% open and honest with him will go a long way in helping him do the same for you. After all, he loves you for who you are, and he doesn’t want you to feel the need to hide things about yourself. If you can be so open and honest with him, he can do the same for you.

HAPPY TWO DAYS AFTER EQUINOX

About half-way done with Ryan (Dead Island) request. I’ve never been a gamer, and even prefer movie adaptations, but there are a lot of characters that check off boxes. Rewarched Scream 3 for Roman request. More Ghostface in the future probably… Even though I have to write a lot for work, I feel out of practice fic-wise. 

October’s going to be super busy work-wise, but I have been and am going to a bunch of festivals and stuff. ^_^ Though my polish melted at the last outdoor event. Wool got stuck to my nails, ew. First time that’s ever happened. When it gets less sunny I might actually start wearing makeup again.

And this Halloween I might get to do a group costume! Which are usually so hard to coordinate beyond, like, two other people. And/or my dog.

Hmm… really been into Batman stuff lately. Slowly getting back into Gotham after Caped Crusader. Introduced the latter to coworkers and watched it twice.

I like how this Penguin is a crime boss mom. And her boat has a hat. Clayface is officially hottest member of the rogue gallery. In CC and The Animated Series. I love how Harley Quinn’s doing her own thing, sans Joker. Even though she’s very obviously forcing her kinks on others. XD First (?) introduction to Jim Craddock. I don’t remember him in Justice League: Unlimited at all lol. He’s interesting, but would probably mug me. :(

Batman: Caped Crusader has pretty much the same vibe as BTAS. I felt like a fake fan for not watching it until now. Even though I liked Justice League and The Batman. last song: The Ghost Of Liberace, I was listening to the playlist I made of my top 10 fav Sparks songs last evening and thinking to myself "oh my freaking god these songs are so good, how on earth" (not a very surprising outcome of listening to one's favourite songs). And THEN I feel asleep actually so I don't remember actually listening to this one but I know it was the last one on the playlist

favorite color: I famously like to say that I love all colors (because I really do) but having to choose. Hmmm. Maybe some vivid shade of blue or this one kind of pale red or some shade of purple. I'm also a big fan of lots of different shades of pink in general. And also the combination of very soft and pastely yellow and pink, because I remember those were my favourite colors as a very small child and now, in big part for that reason, I like putting that colour combo in different things (like my arts)

currently watching: nothing >:[ I'm not much of a movies / tv shows person in general but I hope to change it at some point, my main problem at the moment though is that I just can't fit anything more in my current daily schedule because I've already been putting of things like reading and finally getting to all kinds of different things for months and months, and it's just ugggghhhh, there's never enough time for anything!!! But I just suck at time management at the moment so, one day hopefully. I want to say I will happily accept any recommendations but 1) I don't even know what I want to watch (because I never watch anything and don't know what I'd like lmao) 2) the problem described above

sweet/savory/spicy: savory maayyybbeee, but sweet is also important and something I crave quite often. So I think a balanced dose of both is what I need in my day to day life. I can mostly do without spicy though

currently playing: not a huge gamer (besides a couple of very specific game phases I had in the years past), but recently I've been playing a bunch of Super Mario type games because forgetting all my worries and booting up my Switch and leveling up my skills in platformers and racing games has been my favourite and almost foolproof, go-to way of relaxing this whole summer. Special shoutout to Mario Kart 8 for bringing our entire family together and letting me have one (1) video game thing I can safely say I have surpassed my borther in after just a couple hours of practice so it's like haha, I always lost in racing games and now I can win each time effortlessly >:]]], all thanks to having nothing better to do for several hours a day for many days. And yet more actively I want to say that I've been playing the Klonoa games (those two original platformers that got remastered) but I forgot about them and I'm pretty sure I actually haven't played them since January? Lmao (I forget about everything these days, but especially games. Fun fact: it took me almost 3 years to finish Undertale back in the day. Because I'd forget about it for several months at a time)

current obsession: Sparks unchangingly for this entire past year, and while the obsession never wanes it still has its slightly more and less intense periods, and these last couple of weeks have definitely been on the intense end of the scale. Nothing but Sparks on the brain this whole summer lol (and I welcome that fact with much happiness)

roach has a shit ton of like sub goals and other reward thingies

Also love the idea of Roach being like Badger sjdjdjdjd his crew is him, Jackson, Frost, Ramirez, Logan, and occasionally a swap out when their friend Allen is back home for his 2 days out of the year (yes its every silent protagonist squad) and they're all absolutely insane

Roach's house has animals everywhere and his backyard is one of those wildlife gardens. All sorts of dogs and cats and the occasional ferret or guinea pig that has come through his local shelter. Has rooms in his house specifically designated for certain animals

Roach is the best out of his gaming friends but the one time Jackson (the worst of the squad) manages to clutch a round no one ever lets him forget it sjdjjdjdjd

Also about the hand thing again, prior to Roach showing up it was always Soap who would randomly pop in and donate all the money for the hand cam thing, usually while him and Ghost are playing together sjdjdjjd

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

This is kinda obvious but Idia and Yume are gamers, so they game!

They play a bunch of different genres but particularly Yume likes to show Idia the games on their handheld from their world. In my lore he makes a console so that they can play them together along with Ortho!

 They also like Mmorpgs but Yume gets a little peeved because Idia tries to give their new character really powerful loot from his already maxed lvl character, when Yume just wants to play the game balanced at first lol. He usually ends up making another character so they can play fairly.

I imagine he might consider introducing Yume to online friends, but Yume shys away from that, saying that it's okay and they don't have to be included in every little thing. (Plus they're still nervous meeting ppl online.)

(Fun fact their first official date was basically an animal crossing date lol. But only Yume, Idia and Ortho consider that a real date.)

When they're not doing that they're usually trying to get one another to watch some show together. Not just anime ethier, there's lots of old classic movies that Yume has never seen from Twisted Wonderland (Like pumpkin knight!) so Idia shows them all those too and usually Ortho tags along to.  Yume can somewhat remember old movies from their world so sometimes they try and explain those to Idia and Ortho. They get really silly with it! Trying to do voices and act out the scenes. It usually ends with them all laughing at something stupid.

They also like playing tabletop games together, one of their fav is DND! Yume really likes the creative aspect of it and was actually playing a small game with their brothers before meeting Idia. Yume likes drawing them and their friends' characters and thinking of what classes would suit them!  And they and Idia like discussing the lore and backstories of their characters!

Other times I think they just like hanging out together, both doing their own separate things while just in the same room, enjoying the company. Like, Yume working on art or a knitting project while Idia works on a technomany project for example!

Overtime I think Yume (with Ortho and friends help) get Idia to expand his horizons ever so slightly at a time and eventually they go places (shocking I know) on dates too!

I think eventually (and especially after ch. 6) both of them would just like to experience some semblance of normality. Hanging out with friends, going on cliche dates, just happy normal everyday school things. Things Yume can't remember from their past and things Idia just never really got to experience...

I think that would be important for both of them.

For Yume I don't think they try to hide their relationship per say, it's just that they don't think it's anyone's business. But it's rather obvious how they feel especially after the events of ghost marriage.

Yume will gush about Idia if given a chance to close friends and often tries to dispel bad rumors about him when they get the chance. They aren't as up in your face as Ortho though.

Out of the two of them I think Idia would be the most adamant about hiding their relationship. Not because he doesn’t want people to know he's dating Yume, but doesn’t want people to know Yume is dating him. Yume has a decent reputation after all! They shouldn’t ruin it!

I think at first they would only tell their respective brothers. But after the events of ghost marriage (and even before) it's pretty obvious to a lot of people.

I think for PDA that depends on the time and place.

Some people at school might even say that they didn’t even know they were dating. Neither of them are gonna be lovey dovey in the halls of their school or a classroom because they think that's where you go to work duh. But on the rare occasion Yume can get Idia to agree to go out somewhere. They have the potential to be in their own little world and just focus on eachother. Though even then they’d probably just stick to holding hands and hugs unless they're in a more private space. 

I imagine that they usually try not to kiss around others, except the occasional cheek kiss or something similar.

This turned out really, really long, so, uh, apologies?  The short version is that the number one rule is that your legacy characters don’t undercut your main cast.

I think Rogue One and Solo pulled it off -- Solo is a weirder case because it’s a prequel story about a main character, but Rogue One’s use of Tarkin, Vader, Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, etc. worked for me because from the beginning they were there to support the original characters in the film and never wavered from that.  Rogue One also benefited from knowing exactly what it was going to do and never wavering from that for an instant.

In terms of the shows, TCW is also not a straightforward case because it was using film characters as its mains and pulling from all over, but in terms of OT characters that appeared in the show, I am pretty happy with how TCW pulled off Chewbacca in Wookiee Hunt (3.22) -- puts him there, uses him well to support the main character of that particular arc (Ahsoka) and the other supporting characters (the other youngling Jedi), but it doesn’t turn into the Chewie episode. Same with Ackbar in the Mon Cala arc in S4: support, not overwhelming, doesn’t waver from the central theme of the arc.  Tarkin’s the other big one, and I’m pretty satisfied with the way he was used in TCW -- he’s always there in reference to the main characters of the arcs he appears in, and not in reference to himself, if that makes sense -- he’s there because having him there specifically makes more sense than it doesn’t.

(Honestly, I think the little philosophical lessons really helped with TCW being able to keep its focus: they have to drive straight towards that and not hesitate about it.  Every time they dropped those (I’m talking about you, Siege of Mandalore), they ran into a problem where they sort of wandered around a bit.)

Maul...I like Maul a lot.  I don’t have that much of a problem with the decision to bring him back into the timeline in TCW (at least you always knew that when George Lucas was doing something he was doing it because he enjoyed it, instead of the current case of “are you doing it for a purpose? for cheap lulz? for the aesthetic? are you setting up a sequel? are you trying to course-correct another piece of canon?”).  I do think Maul got overweighted in S7, and this is partially because they didn’t really have the space to build him up from where he ended in S5.  The Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir comic helps a little, but S7 is such a rapid switch from where he is in S5 (and you do have to assume that most viewers hadn’t read the comic) that he then pulls in too much narrative weight, and that’s because S7 was trying to do something really, really different from what the previous six seasons of TCW were trying to do.

Rebels sometimes pulls it off, sometimes does not.  Since we’re on the topic of Maul already, I am actually fine with Maul in Rebels.  I don’t actually think he was used to his full benefit because they pulled back at the last minute, but Maul in Twilight of the Apprentice? Fine with that. Same with Holocrons of Fate and Visions and Voices. (I’ve got a few other problems with Visions and Voices.)  Maul is always there in relation to the main characters of the show, not in relation to himself and not in relation to a non-Rebels character.  Did it have to be Maul (back in TotA, obvs, not the latter two)?  No, but it makes sense and it works really well thematically with all of the characters present in that episode.  Holocrons and Visions and Voices, same.

Twin Suns, on the other hand, another Maul episode, was a disaster -- beautifully made episode, everyone is in character, it should never have been made.  (I’m currently grumpy about this one specifically because I recently saw an “Ezra shouldn’t have been in Twin Suns” take.)  Yes, Maul and Obi-Wan are both interacting with Ezra, but Ezra in this ep is basically himself the McGuffin.  Neither the actual, thematic, or emotional conflict in the episode revolves around Ezra even if he’s the instigator of that final showdown.  If you can start and end an episode without the show’s main cast (and Rebels differs from TCW in that it did, very specifically, have a main character as well as a main cast), you’ve made a mistake.  Not to mention that Twin Suns takes a bunch of narrative and thematic weight that was set in TotA and earlier in S3 (such as the Maul/Kanan and Maul/Ezra parallels), and then completely ignores it in favor of a confrontation that is not going to be emotionally significant for viewers who are there for the show’s main cast.

Darth Vader mostly works in Rebels -- in S2 in isolation, not as part of the greater Rebels plot arc which is a weird hot mess of deescalating villains season by season (a whole ‘nother thing).  In Siege of Lothal he’s set up in relation to the main cast and that’s who most of his interaction is with.  Same with TotA, though I sometimes think more weight is put on the Vader/Ahsoka duel than should be there in terms of who the main cast are.  Sometimes I think it’s fine as is.  His other brief appearances are fine, since he’s mostly there just to loom and use up the fabric animation budget.

Tarkin really works in Rebels -- this is honestly Rebels’ biggest legacy character success, my gods, his introduction in Call to Action is terrifying.  Did it have to be Tarkin?  No, they could have made an OC and had the same role, but Tarkin here, in this context?  It ups the tension level a thousand percent, we see him ordering around the Imperials in the show (and the execution scene still gives me chills), and the end of Call to Action, when he’s talking to Kanan on the gunship and orders the destruction of the communications tower?  This is easily one of the most terrifying thing Rebels has ever done and to be honest, I’m not sure they ever topped it in terms of sheer presence.  Evacuating the star destroyer in Fire Across the Galaxy? Perfect parallel to ANH.

From S2-S4, Rebels really wavers back and forth on their use of legacy characters and this is true of the show as a whole from that point onwards -- when there’s a legacy character, they tend to be overweighted in terms of the episode and in terms of how much narrative space is given to them rather than to the main cast.  Not all the time (I have issues with the S4 Mandalore arc, but I think Bo-Katan was played fairly well because most of the narrative weight was still on Sabine), but a lot of the time.  The Future of the Force is really bad on this in terms of Ahsoka -- most of the episode is still focused on Kanan and Ezra, but then they’re taken off the board so she can have her dramatic fight scene.  Shroud of Darkness -- I go back and forth.  (I have other issues with Shroud.)  Leia in A Princess on Lothal -- mostly okay, but some weird moments, like using her to rally the Ghost crew into action?

Wedge in The Antilles Extraction -- fine  He’s played in relation to Sabine, his presence in the ep is thematically consistent with everything else they’re doing. Saw Gerrera in both S3 and S4 I really go back and forth on.  I think I’m mostly okay with him in terms of how he’s played in those four episodes, but I also think there are a lot of questions raised in terms of, like, his relationship to the Alliance.  (This goes for his appearance in Jedi Fallen Order as well -- I’m fine with it, it’s not mindblowing, it was nice to see.)  Mon Mothma I go back and forth on and part of this is because I’m not entirely sure what they were doing with the Rebel Alliance -- this same thing is true for Saw Gerrera.  Especially in the back half of S3 (though it appears earlier as well), Rebels is intersecting more and more with the Rebel Alliance in the lead-up to Rogue One and ANH, but I don’t think they were really entirely sure what they wanted to do with that thematically, which is how we get these wildly varying views of the Alliance even from within it, especially in S4.  Which is part of the reason why S4 thematically is A DISASTER.  (y’all I should not have come out of S4 hating the Rebel Alliance and I still can’t tell if they did that on purpose or not?)

I’m not mentioning every legacy character in Rebels here (Cham, Hondo, Madine, C-3PO and R2-D2, Bail Organa), but mostly the ones where they pay major roles.  Rex I think Rebels mostly managed to pull off having as treating him like supporting cast and not overweighting him as character.  -- The clone trio at the beginning of S2 has them in relation to Kanan, Ezra, Kallus and the stormtroopers, etc., not just in relation to themselves.

(I have no idea how to talk about Thrawn in this context because Thrawn isn’t exactly a legacy character from the current canon, but on the other hand he’s a major EU legacy character, so he’s also just a weird god damn case in general that doesn’t really have a parallel in current canon?)

What else we got -- Star Wars Resistance; doesn’t use that many legacy characters but uses the ones it has pretty sparingly.  Poe is always there in relation to Kaz, Leia has a very brief appearance, Phasma and Hux are mostly there because it makes sense for them to be there, same with Kylo Ren.  Resistance has its issues (both thematically and with pacing) but this is not one of them).

Jedi Fallen Order -- Saw was fine; Vader wasn’t overweighted once he showed up.  Battlefront II had its legacy characters almost entirely in context of Iden and Del; they weren’t there just to be there.  (And not being a gamer I’m not one hundred percent certain how those two felt in actual playing, vs. my watching them on YT.)

(I am not terribly familiar with the current canon books and comics because I stopped reading them a while ago.)

Non-canon example from Legends: Han Solo’s appearance in the Wraith Squadron novels.

The short version of this is: if you’re going to use legacy characters, you want them to be there in relation to your main cast. It has to work thematically; they can’t undercut your mains. Their stories, no matter how important to the saga as a whole, should not overwhelm the main cast of your actual show/film/game/whatever. And they definitely should not undercut your mains.  (I think Mando did this fine with Bo-Katan, tbh.)

Heartslabyul

Riddle Rosehearts: Mallory has a strange fascination with Riddle. She was a Disney gal when on Earth, Alice in Wonderland being her favorite movie they made. She kinda hated the Queen of Hearts since she was all high and mighty, but when she saw Riddle...all she thought was "omg smol tsun tsun". After his overblot, she held him close and allowed him to hide his tears. Riddle finds her obsession fascination with him a bit odd, but he's seen weirder in his own dorm, so he just lets her do her thing and is her friend nonetheless.

Trey Clover: "Big brother Trey". That's pretty much it. One time, Mallory told Trey about chocolate-hazelnut wafers and how she loved them back on Earth, so he made them for her after. She was delighted and it's become tradition for them since. He's basically her big bro. It's pretty wholesome.

Cater Diamond: Mallory finds Cater a bit annoying, she won't lie. She just finds the whole "influencer" thing a bit odd. Other than that, she doesn't entirely mind Cater. They don't talk all too often however, so they don't know each other too well. Mallory hopes to have that change before they graduate or before she goes home.

Ace Trappola: If these two are seen together, you may wanna run. Mallory and Ace are pretty much inseparable after finally getting along during Heartslabyul's episode. Mallory will admit, she finds Ace attractive, and she's said it to him before on a couple occasions. She may feel more than just that, but she doesn't like love and stuff like that, so she tries to ignore her rapidly beating heart whenever she's with Ace...

Deuce Spade: Deuce is one of the few people who sees Mallory's sweet side. She always makes sure he stays in line and if he starts to go all delinquent-mode, she pulls a "pull it together major". Of course, that's only if he starts to go overboard. Mallory knows what it's like to feel like a disappointment to a parent, so she reassures Deuce that it'll get better if he's truly wanting to be better.

Thorn Valley: Oh, these two despise each other. The only thing they can agree on is that they dislike Leona and that's pretty much it. Some people at NRC like to say they're like an old married couple(mainly Cater) and they always have to clarify that they hate each other. They can tolerate each other during events like Fairy Gala and such, but even then, they'll still bicker.

Savanaclaw

Leona Kingscholar: Another person Mallory hates! She finds Leona's laziness a menace, while he gets a kick out of annoying her. Their relationship is similar to how Vil and Leona act to put it bluntly. They do have similar humor though, so it's strange whenever someone else sees them laughing together.

Ruggie Bucchi: One time Ruggie stole her sandwich and she makes sure he'll never live it down. Knowing he had a rough time back in the Afterglow Savana however, she tones it down by a lot. She knows he's a gremlin, but she also knows that he's a human like anyone else and tries to treat him with some kind of kindness and respect. They don't talk all too often, but they've talked enough to be considered a bit more than acquaintances.

Jack Howl: He gives her piggyback rides more often than you would think, but it's always cause she asks if he can. He can't say no to her face, he doesn't know why, so he goes along with it. He finds her more as his sister than anything, Mallory finding the feeling mutual. She loves to hang out with him and Epel, but the one time that Jack offered her to come with him and Vil to jog, she backed up ten feet and said no.

Octavinelle

Azul Ashengrotto: Mallory was infuriated when Azul took Ramshackle away from her and Grim for those couple days. She was doing that thing where she was telling Adeuce and Jack to "hold her (nonexistent) earrings" or to "hold her back". After finding out his backstory however, she softened, even if only by a bit. Her relationship with him got better after Scarabia's incident.

Jade Leech: Mallory doesn't like Jade, but she doesn't hate him either. He's probably the most tolerable person in Octavinelle to her. She was also close to slapping Jade once. She doesn't interact with him too often, so she can only go off of how he was during Octavinelle and Scarabia's episode.

Floyd Leech: Floyd is the vain of Mallory's existence. During the Octavinelle episode, she almost slapped him into oblivion. She honestly can't tell who she hates more, Thorn, Leona, or Floyd. He's constantly trying to "squeeze" her like he does with everyone else and she can't stand it. She doesn't like to talk to him and tries to avoid him when she can.

Marius Seymour: Mallory doesn't entirely mind Marius. She kinda finds his sadistic-ish personality a bit annoying, but she's learned that it's a reoccuring thing in Octavinelle. Marius' sadism isn't as bad as the other three. She lowkey ships him with Ashe and isn't shy about it. She finds him kinda fun to be around and likes to eat with him at lunch from time to time.

Scarabia

Kalim Al-Asim: The first time she talked to him, she knew that he was so precious and was wondering if he belonged at RSA. He's also one of the few people to see Mallory's sweet side. She can't bring herself to be sarcastic with him, so she acts almost entirely different with him. It basically goes as such...

Everyone else: Wow...

Mallory: What?

Everyone else: You're just so nice to him...

Mallory: Oh, I'm sorry, do you want me to yell?!

Jamil Viper: Mallory's...indifferent to Jamil. She almost slapped him after his overblot, yes, but she doesn't entirely hate him. She knows he was in Kalim's shadow for so long, so she doesn't have too much against him. She still isn't happy with how he treated and hypnotized Kalim, but she tries to let it go as much as her heart and brain will let her. She doesn't talk to him much after his overblot, but if she needs to talk to him, she won't throw a tantrum.

Pomefiore

Vil Schoenheit: At first, Mallory thought that she'd hate Pomefiore, especially Vil. But...she saw and heard how much effort it took for Vil to get to where he is now, so she has a lot of respect for him. For Ghost Marriage, he chose an outfit for her so that she fit the theme of the event and she actually liked his outfit choices. It was a dress, which she tends to hate, but she genuinely enjoyed wearing it. She may not talk to him a whole lot, but she respects him greatly. After his overblot, that respect and empathy went up even more.

Rook Hunt: Mallory, like many others at NRC, finds Rook weird and creepy. She already found the fact that he has photos on his walls creepy, but then he lists off her, ADeuce and Grim's height, class, and seat number. She tries to avoid him at all costs, similar to Floyd. She hates how he randomly pops up behind her and the others too.

Epel Felmier: Mallory loves Epel! She likes to hang out with him, Jack, and Deuce. She's trying to learn how to carve apples, though she's gained many cuts on her fingers because of it, the cuts always bandaged up by Epel. Since she's taller than him, she likes to use him as an arm-rest from time to time, much to Epel's demise. All in all, she adores him and wishes the best for him.

Ashe Aspen: Mallory finds Ashe fun, but they don't talk as often as she'd like. He's really tall, so she likes when he gives her piggyback rides too. She's witnessed his truly scary side, and she's sworn to never make him mad since. Similar to Ruggie, they may not talk much, but they've talked enough to be considered a bit more than acquaintances.

Ignihyde

Idia Shroud: Best of friends. Specifically BGFFs, "Best Gamer Friends Forever". Idia introduced Mallory to a bunch of games in Twisted Wonderland and she couldn't put them down. They talk whenever they can and everyone is shocked when Mallory says she's Idia's friend. She likes his hair a lot too.

Ortho Shroud: Mallory finds Ortho like the younger sibling she never had but always wanted. She always makes sure he's ok, telling him that he can come to her if he ever needs to talk. She also thought that he did amazing during the VCD Auditions.

Diasomnia

Malleus Draconia: She knows for a fact that if she was still her same seven year old self, she'd want him to give her a piggyback ride so she could hold his horns. Mallory finds his innocent outlook on some things adorable, but more in a sense of "wow he's pure" rather than romantically. For the most part though, their relationship is the same as it's portrayed in the game.

Lilia Vanrouge: They have a relationship like Mallory does with Riddle, just flip it around. Lilia seems to be fascinated by her, seeing as she's a human from another world while he's a fae who's lived for hundreds of years. She may be taller than him, but he always floats above the ground so he's at least her height. She finds him fun to hang with, so she's fine with his strange fascination.

Sebek Zigvolt: She finds him too loud, but she appreciates his devotion to Malleus. Sometimes it concerns her, but other than that, she respects it. They don't talk often, but she kinda wants that to change soon. Other than that, he's the member she's the least close to.

Silver: They're cuddling buddies and don't even know it. Mallory spends a lot of time in Diasomnia, so naturally she is close with the dorm's members. She likes to crash in Silver's room at times, so that's how they became secret cuddle buddies.

Other

Dire Crowley: Mallory finds it kinda fun to toy with Crowley, but found it incredibly annoying when he left to go on vacation during Scarabia's episode. Although it's something she'd never admit, Mallory sees Crowley as that fun and strange father she never got to have.

Divius Crewel: She hates him with a lot of her being. She hates how he treats them all like dogs. However, when there are those few times he's nice to her and makes sure she doesn't make an explosion in Alchemy, she's thankful.

Mozus Trein: She finds his class pretty boring, but she loves playing with his cat. She does appreciate when Trein gives her extra help if she doesn't understand something revolving around Twisted Wonderland's history.

Ashton Vargas: Mallory is a bit indifferent to Vargas. While he can be nice to her, she finds him a bit odd. She does however appreciate how Vargas makes sure she takes care of her physical and mental health.

Libi Koko: Libi and Mallory are pretty much the best of friends. Since Libi is one of the few females in NRC with Mallory, it feels nice that she can talk to someone who understands some issues they may have that the guys don't. They have a lot of inside jokes and, again, Libi is one of the few poeple who have seen Mallory's sweet side.

Che'nya: Prank duo, right here. If they're together, it's like an Ace and Mallory situation, but worse. Since they go to different schools, they can't talk often, but they managed to exchange numbers who knows when just a bit after the Heartslabyul incident. Sometimes, Che'nya likes to give Mallory hugs, but he's always invisible and know one except Mallory can tell he's there. He likes to tease Mallory a bit, much to her slight demise, so she's started to do the same. It's an endless cycle now.

Neige LeBlanche: Mallory already adored Neige the first time she met him. Her first thought was "he's baby. I must protect". They may not talk often, due to being in different schools, but they exchanged numbers to ensure that they still had the ability to talk. Neige is in a situation similar to Kalim in terms of how sweet Mallory is.

So anyways, birthdays, my boy doesn’t do parties.

His family would get him a cake for after dinner and Reigen might, for once, let him have some frackin’ meat on his ramen.

Ritsu’s the only one that would get him gifts probably; froggy keychain, hoodies.

OH but that was BEFORE Shigeo unlocked the power of friendship, so now his birthday goes like this:

Dimple casually hovers over his face with a little party hat and Shigeo is too tired in the morning to deal with it probably, so he gets up and goes through Dimple.

Ritsu’s the first to say Happy Birthday because he is a good little brother, and his parents are like, “Happy birthday, Shige, we’ll get cake for dinner, alright?” As per tradition, y’know?

So my boys are walking to school, and neither of them are acknowledging the ghost in the party hat, and Dimple doesn’t seem too eager to tell them anyways because they already know why he’s wearing it.

And the moment they enter school, Shigeo’s suddenly getting random “Happy birthday”s from people he doesn’t even know, and he’s super confused. Until Mezato shows up and goes, “Oh dude, there’s like a birthday babies section in the school paper and let’s say I added yours.”

Even his teacher told him happy birthday and it’s so bizarre because Shigeo isn’t use to this much attention.

Then club rolls in and Shigeo suddenly finds himself being thrown in the air by his Body Improvement Club buddies, but it doesn’t last long because this is post-canon and the members are different.

Anyways, Teru decides to drop by while Shigeo is on his run with the fellas, and he’s holding like the biggest frog plush Shigeo has ever seen in his life. “Kageyama-kun, what a surprise!”

No, not what a surprise, he planned this. He walked his gay ass over just to hand the gift early.

“Welp, you already saw the gift, might as well take it,” Teru sighs, holding it up for Shigeo.

“Hanazawa-kun, I am on my run.”

“Oh, yeah- right—“

“How about you head over to my house and wait for me?”

WOAH TERU DID NOT EXPECT TO BE INVITED TO HIS CRUSH BEST FRIEND’S BIRTHDAY PARTY, OKAY COOL.

Shigeo isn’t really expecting a party, but when he gets home, expecting to see Teru and maybe Reigen only with his family, he is met with a crowd of people. And he hasn’t even reached the front door yet.

Mr Afraid Of A Water Bucket Terada, Muraki In A Suit part 2, Matsuo and Pudding-chan, Frat Chad Shimazaki and his partner Plant Guy Minegishi, Joseph From The Government (only here to watch over ex-Claw), Buff Boys and Tenga, Miss Tennis Lesbian and Miss Alien Lesbian, then finally, Minori pulls up behind Shigeo in a limo.

Kagey-mama low key stress from the amount of adults in the room who came for her 15-16(?)-year-old son’s birthday.

So anyways Teru’s kinda bummed out he’s not the only one who got Shigeo a very cool gift, because these fellas only knew one thing about Shigeo and it’s that he likes frogs and the color green. (Koyama deadass the only one who brought milk)

How they got invited? Dimple in a party hat ran around town collecting guests like he was playing Pokémon, because collecting people is his only specialty. I don’t even know how he got Tsubomi and a good chunk of the ex-Claw Members but whatever y’know?

So Shigeo’s having the time of his life and he’s smiling like, “Are y’all being nice people?”

“Pfft, I mean,” Shimazaki starts. Minegishi kicks him in the shin. Shimazaki nearly cries in blind. “YEP, definitely.”

Ritsu is beyond pissed off because THIS IS OUR SPECIAL TRADITION WHY ARE YOU GUYS HERE.

Shou: Enters the chat.

Ritsu: Okay nevermind :)

Meanwhile Teru’s still thinking of the perfect gift and it isn’t helping that all the girls are surrounding Shigeo, gushing about his birthday and such.

Shigeo’s going to sleep comfy tonight with this many frog plus- Did Minori buy him a whole bed?

That’s it, I’m winning the best prize competition, whether they like it or not. Teru, honey, there’s no competition???

So after cake and ha ha party talk (yes how are you PUDDING-chan, oh wow Tsubomi you’ve gotten taller again, no Tenga this isn’t a secret gang, Joseph you can have some cake y’know), they all head home and Teru’s the last to leave while Ritsu’s trying to push all the gifts up the stairwell (not going well, cannot fit).

Shigeo’s like, “Well, we had fun didn’t we?”

“Yes, we did. Happy birthday, Shige,” Teru smooches Shigeo’s hand. “Goodnight!”

Cookies I Have From Cookie Run So Far! (And My Thoughts On Them)

Alright, I’ve gotten pretty far in Cookie Run: Oven Break, and I felt the need to share my thoughts on all the adorable cookies I’ve unlocked so far. So far, I have 50/100, so I’d say I’m making good progress. On to the list!

GingerBrave: The bravest boy. If this was a show, he’d clearly be the main character. I recently got him a little suit, so now he’s a gentleman! 

GingerBright: Sweet little lady. She looks like she’d be nice to get a coffee with or help you with homework. I definitely ship her with Brave, no doubt about it.

Strawberry Cookie: Precious baby! She’s super shy and I am compelled to protect her at all costs. Her pet is also a Tamagotchi, so she must be a gamer! Sweet!

Skater Cookie: HE WAS A SK8TER BOI! SHE SAID SEE YA LATER BOI! 

Zombie Cookie: This is one of the fastest zombies I’ve ever seen. They seem like a nice guy overall though.

Princess Cookie: Heck yes, a mischievous princess! Those are the best! I love her dress and hair bows. I bet she just pretends to get kidnapped for the lols.

Pilot Cookie: Is it just me, or is this little old man smaller than most of the other cookies? Whatever, he’s got a cute mustache and he’s adorable. Go and fly!

Vampire Cookie: As a vampire nerd, I immediately adored this guy. I will gladly give him grape juice and chill with him under the light of the moon. 

Gumball Cookie: Is this was Splatoon is like? This boi has a lot of chaotic energy and I like him.

Pistachio Cookie: I love this warrior woman so dang much. Look at that minty green hair! Her power is also SUPER helpful. She a speedy knight!

Pancake Cookie: HE’S A FLYING SQUIRREL! HE’S TOO CUTE I CAN’T EVEN! LET ME HUG THIS TINY CHILD!!!

Peppermint Cookie: Sweet baby. Good baby. My mom would probably adore this baby. (She loves mint and she’s not even a big sweets person.)

Muscle Cookie: As a lesbian, I’m not into big abs and muscles, but he’d probably be a good gym partner. Don’t mess with him is all I can say.

Cherry Cookie: Little Red Riding Hood got some bombs! I hope she and Gumball can go cause chaos on the weekends.

Hero Cookie: Precious nerdy boi with science! I saw his Island of Memories intro and his bond with Jellyco Cube is just the sweetest thing! Follow your superhero dreams, my baby!

Fairy Cookie: I didn’t know Tinkerbell was in this game! Also, I got her a bee costume and that looks super cute on her. Love her hair bun.

Roll Cake Cookie: Imagine, if you will, the world’s biggest game of Whack-A-Mole! With that hammer, this boy would win without question.

Popcorn Cookie: I’d be happy to go with this girl to the movie theater! Also, I love how she had popcorn for hair buns. She seems like she’d be up for a fun time!

Carrot Cookie: Oh my lordy, her ponytails are carrots. The artists for this game are so clever. Strong but tiny farmer, I approve.

Ion Cookie Robot: Yes! A robot! I love robots, and this cookie is no exception! Definitely one of my favorites, up there with Whipped Cream Cookie. They’re super powerful too, and REALLY useful in Breakout and Trophy runs.

Dino-Sour Cookie: Gee Dino-Sour, how come Devsisters let you have two pets? Very cool punk boy. I can see him going to Rockstar Cookie’s concert.

Plum Cookie: Aren’t plums purple though? This boy is one tough cookie! Look at his karate moves! Honestly, I thought he was a girl at first. Why must these boys be so pretty?!

Alchemist Cookie: Look, it’s Twilight Sparkle! Apparently, Vampire boy is her brother? I really like her hair braids(?), I just wish she’d loosen up a bit. She seems like a nice girl.

Roguefort Cookie: Aaaah yeah, elegant thief! This cookie is the coolest! I love this aesthetic so much~! Blue cheese has never been so fancy. Just look at this charmer, stealing hearts!

Pitaya Dragon Cookie: OOOOOhohoho! THIS is what I’m TALKING about! Look at this beast, they’re GLORIOUS! They’ve probably killed a bunch of people, but They’re crazy powerful and I adore them.

Knight Cookie: This guy is SO much fun to play as! He just won’t stop, he’s too fast!!! I couldn’t stop laughing once I found out just how fast this knight could go! Somehow he controls better than Pistachio? I don’t know, I love him!

Birthday Cake Cookie: TOO PRECIOUS FOR WORDS! SHE’S SO DANG CUTE!!! Also, her “Bonus Time” changes to “Happy B Day” and I... I just can’t! She’s the sweetest thing!!! <3 <3 <3

Cocoa Cookie: Awww, look at this sweet baby! I wanna snuggle her! Her design looks so warm and comfy. I have plenty of hot chocolate to give her. <3

Raspberry Mousse Cookie: Ah yes, the pretty boy that got me into this game in the first place. Along with Squid Ink, he’s probably my favorite. There’s a reason he has the highest affection so far with me. I just adore his design, and he’s very powerful! I will ALWAYS have him ready for Breakout and Trophy Runs. Rose Cookie: Finally, we have this lovely lady. Everyone is shipping her with Raspberry, and rightfully so. She is a high-quality woman that makes gay men straight and straight girls lesbian. Look at that outfit! And those dance moves!

Cinnamon Cookie: Super useful power so far, and they have a really cool cape! Those cards are very handy! (I promise I’ll pay attention to the genders of these cookies from now on! I don’t want to misgender anyone again!)

Sparkling Cookie: Oooh, a sparkling cider cookie! That’s honestly the only boozy thing I enjoy drinking. He is super classy and seems like the life of the party. He strikes me as a Great Gatsby kind of host.

Moonlight Cookie: OOOOOOOH~! LOOK at this GODDESS! I love the nighttime/dreamy aesthetic. This girl has Luna’s hair and a wizard’s outfit, high tier cookie!

White Choco Cookie: This game sure likes it’s knights, huh? This girl is a fine lady and apparently, she attracts all the lesbians. Can’t say I blame those girls, I do love that hairstyle. 

Spinach Cookie: Aaand the newest cookie to hit the scene, this girl! I have never met someone so dedicated to vegetables, so I have to applaud that. She’s a super sweet girl, and I hope we find who stole her precious vegetables!!!

Herb Cookie: Now THIS guy is everywhere! It seems the fandom really likes him, and I can see why. He seems like a very nice boy, with a sweet plant baby. I like the leaf hair, very cool.

Sea Fairy Cookie: I love how everything on her flows. Her hair, her dress, she’s so beautiful~! I will say though, Legendaries are SO DANG HARD to level up and get affection with! WHY?!

Cream Puff Cookie: Awwww, look at this precious baby girl~! Look at her soft hair and little dress! I almost feel bad running with the super cute ones, I don’t want them to get hurt! 

Matcha Cookie: Oooooh, all these ancient-looking cookies have the coolest designs! She’s probably insane, darkness will do that to ya, but she seems harmless so I like her!

Ice Candy Cookie: This chick could crush me like a grape and I don’t know how to feel about that. Hopefully, she’s only savage on the ice rink. I do NOT want to mess with this girl.

Cherry Blossom Cookie: Awww, look how pretty she is~! Cherry blossoms are always so lovely, and this girl embodies that. She has a PARASOL for crying out loud, I CAN’T EVEN!!

Grapefruit Cookie: This game sure likes sports, huh? She seems really cool, I love her colors! Do you think she’d play Skate 3? Hopefully, she’d get a laugh out of that game.

Pirate Cookie: This guy has been a long time coming. I’ve been curious about him since the Breakout episode. He’s pretty neat, I appreciate how he naturally comes with an extra revive.

Kumiho Cookie: Cool! A Kitsune! I love the spin on the concept of cookies. Let this marshmallow fox live out her reverse-furry dream! I’m loving her design too, look at that hair! 

Marshmallow Cookie: Oh cute! Another marching band cookie! According to her story, she and Macaron had a falling out. I hope they can reconcile and be friends again. :(

Dark Choco Cookie: WE’VE REACHED MAXIMUM EDGE! WITH OREO SHOULDER PADS!!! Interesting how he’s still trying to be a hero, which is a nice spin on the “I have evil powers so now I’m evil” trope. Here’s hoping he stays strong.

Fire Spirit Cookie: Ah yes, the classic lord of fire. A staple for any fantasy story that includes the elements. Again, it’s impossible to get the affection for these guys.

Mala Sauce Cookie: Yay! I got Pitaya’s girlfriend! I always love it when there’s a tribe/society of warriors and the WOMAN is the strongest one there. Heck yes! This warrior lady is a badass!

Firecracker Cookie: I didn’t know I was invited to a rave party! Love the neon colors on this cookie, that’s something this game really excels at.

i do like angst and dark fic, and i basically have no limit to how gruesome and dark something can get, but there are stipulations when ti comes to it: needless and pointless happenings that don’t really add to the story, as well as using it for shock value cause the creator didn’t know how to utilize the darker elements and thought “hey, let me throw in some ___ to show people that it’s dark!” kind of thing, if you get me? like there just a bunch of non-con to show how “dark” a universe is that doesn’t do anything to exploit the content given to them

i actually am fine with no happy endings, or ambiguous or happy. i’m that person who basically says “go nuts” and encourages a person to explore where their fic is going. i’m also fine with pwp. gore and blood is fine, like i really love gory and bloody animes and shows, so it won’t really phase me

you wouldn’t get dinged very much cause even i know bloodborne / dark souls’ lore is a bit vague and confusing if you don’t actually research, even if you’ve played the game, many things can go over people’s heads without watching vaatividya videos (which i would recommend cause that dude sure knows how to do some lore videos on bloodborne and is able to simplify things) to get a feel for what’s happening. i’m lenient on people playing around with the lore, i’m not one of those hardcore gamers that’d be like “oh, you play bloodborne? tell me what lady maria was doing on oct 05 at 1648 in the lowest level of the research hall to prove you play this game”, i def understand the game can be confusing. 

you can be as vague as you want with the details, like mentioning that they’re hunters, use some kind weapon in the game, mentioning they’re in one of the game’s areas like hemwick chermal lane or the the forbidden woods, etc, and i’d be able to instantly tell it was in bloodborne. don’t worry, you don’t have to be intimately familiar with the game’s lore, it’ll be fine.

also, i would rec listening to the soundtrack just because it’s fucking baller, like tell me if ludwig, the holy blade and lady maria of the astral clocktower doesn’t get you motivated to do shit

lol being in my teenz in 2008 i haven’t thought about it much tbh. i think i’d like a pretty cozy (smallish) bedroom and just a lot of physical Niches yknow. i like to frequent very specific spots which are not too out in the open. and really everything would be kinda Cozy Smallish but not the kitchen. get some space there, and like, raised counters like for julia child being 6′2″ b/c Standard Height is not comfortable for me either at my tender 5′11″ or 6″ness. and i always think that those sitty spaces that are like, Depressed into the floor are fun. i know there’s a word for that, but whatever. there’s a bunch of very disparate color schemes i’d think i’d like, so like, idk if i’d just go for totally different Aesthetic Approaches from room to room to try to cover all of them lol

i mean i think it’s more important to recognize that anyone is entirely capable of Doing good or bad, and arguing about what they Truly Are In Their Hearts is beside the point. but i also think the idea that like oooh if Polite Society crumbles enough we’ll all just be roving in bloodthirsty packs, looking to kill each other and loot / probably eat the corpses, etc etc ~dark gritty bold~ apocalyptic material that’s like wow yeah that’s really confronting the Uncomfortable True Nature of society. like, capitalism is already a brutal and inhumane situation to exist in, but it’s not some emergent expression of Human Nature like, oh, life is just like this, empty and alienating and unfulfilling unless you [physical violence b/c it is Genuine], or that people would turn on each other if we were in survival mode, like…..no. survival mode always entails helping others to survive like. yeah not for necessarily Every individual? but that’s just more of anyone’s capacity to Do good or bad. but humans as a species are not solitary, we’re social b/c that’s how we all exist in relation to each other, society is innate to us and not some Luxury that distances us from our True Natures. we communicate with each other and want to work together even beyond helping each other survive and want to connect to each other and total / imposed isolation is Bad for anyone. and i think that love and altruism are Human Nature too. like, it’s weird when it’s treated like some evolutionary mystery why humans (or individuals of other species) would exercise altruism and/or self-destruction (or the risk of it) for the sake of others? like “but it doesn’t make sense b/c for us survival means Passing On Genes, we protect ourselves and our ability to exist and procreate, and we protect those most genetically similar to us, down the line to favoring your most distant cousin over a random stranger,” etc etc What A Mystery Why We Are Altruistic!!! but it’s not?? like? we don’t just see ourselves as individuals and we recognize the self in the other, and that we are all just Arbitrarily the self that we happen to be, and are all The Other to everyone else’s Myself…..and why would humanity not Preserve itself beyond just individuals looking out for just their individual existence? we just like. don’t only prioritize the preservation of our own genetic code. why should it be a less Survivally Successful approach for any individual to look out for any other individual? of Course we give a shit about other randos who don’t have any familial or even any other personal connection to us at all b/c we just care about the survival of other humans. 

anyways! no yeah so i think that Love and Altruism are intrinsic human nature. like creativity and communication. we aren’t like, always doomed to destroy each other b/c That’s Humans For You. denying the humanity in others inherently requires actually just reducing one’s own humanity, yknow??? re: human nature anyways. i know we’re all still technically human regardless of how we act. and that the self-destructive destruction of others is a feature of humanity, but i don’t think it’s one which is Inherent or Inevitable. i.e. the Self-Destruction thing. capitalism is out here threatening everyone’s existence and just so happens to require placing the Wealthy Few above the worth of the lives of all the rest, who are the cheap labor force rather than Just As Human as the richest. anyways. mostly Good! but the point is still that anyone can do Bad regardless so like, who cares if you have some good in your heart, bitch we all do.

(23) ghost - is there someone that you miss having in your life?

still a bit effed up on missing the theoretical concept of an in-person group of people who are consistent in genuinely enjoying / being enthusiastic about time spent with you. one reason it’s theoretical is that i’ve never Really had a whole in-person friend group exaactly. and it’s theoretical b/c idk, it’s not easy for me to feel comfortable Being Myself around others and like, i like being in groups as a rando amongst strangers really easily, but if it’s like, we’re all in a group and talking and stuff, i can just go into [stifled mode] real easily, idk, it’s hard to say whether the times i’ve been Uncomfortable in groups like that is just like, it not being the right people, or that i just will always like smaller groups or just one-on-one or smthing i dunnooooo. either way i get depressed about Wouldn’t It Be Nice though so idk? i guess i would still ideally seek it out. but i also can’t feel like i can actually expect this to happen. on a related note i forgot to mention Briony Atkins as this minor character who is very like me in being someone who is outwardly v withdrawn and quiet and comes across as not speaking b/c she has nothing to say but in reality she’s a passionate and boisterous person who just rarely shows / expresses it around others. i’m out here never talking (and getting the chance to talk aloud and it’s like a mile a minute all at once trying to compensate) and being pretty quiet and people get surprised when i have An Opinion even though i’m super opinionated lol and i just find it really hard to be myself around others unless i’m operating completely on my own and beholden to no one, but even then. anxious

Updates and Thoughts for the Future

Hello folks, it’s been a really long time since I’ve written anything on my ‘secret’ blog so here I go. It has been probably over a month now since I’ve done much writing and it actually depresses me. I have so much to write about and never enough time. Let me dive into the updates to my life with my reasons why. 

Since my last post on this blog, I started a Twitch Channel (under another name of course) and I have had a pretty steady schedule which has earned me very few views and followers but that’s okay. I’ve learned that so far I really like streaming. It could possibly lead to a career in gaming or gaming journalism or just living on donations from views. My fiancee told me about how people love to see happy, healthy couples because frankly, it's so rare these days. So I had her by my side for a few live streams and my views more than doubled. This has led us to believe that if I do all the main live stream and gaming work and she just shows up to play games with me that we would have a decent shot of getting a following. She and I are both quite good at making videos and preaching to the world so we are planning on giving youtube and Twitch a shot once we move out together. We can’t really give them a good try now because it is nearly impossible to have enough time make a steady flow of content and since we don’t live together she can’t always appear on the live stream. We both have jobs and work a lot and we are both saving up for school, we are still going to take the safer route of going to school and getting a ‘real’ job so we can afford to move out and get married. However, she is doing so well at her job she may put off going to school to make a bunch of money allowing for the moving out process to be easier and quicker. It’s very exciting. As of right now, Twitch is a very low priority and I can’t let it cause me to get sick or be in the way of seeing and helping my fiancee or taking proper care of myself. But most nights it’s not in the way of anything, but still, I have no need to aim high and do extra work right now to try and get more views, it’s simply a side hobby for now. 

Next up is my mental health. This blog was pretty much started due to my mental health and it was a major theme and subject for almost every post, but these days I hardly think about it. I don’t have any deep depression anymore or anything that lingers on for days, weeks, or months that haunt me. It’s gone and out of my life. I’m in a word, ‘cured’. Right now I’m actually more worried about my physical health because my new job is in a factory/warehouse place which has 7 am start time and 4:30 pm end times of full manual labor. It doesn’t help that I have allergies this time of year and they have actually killed my immune system enough to force me to take a sick day which is really bad. The only silver lining to this is that it gave me the time to write this blog post.  

As I said earlier, I haven’t gotten to do much meaningful writing, gaming articles, or even work on my book(s) I have 3 or 4 great ideas for novels and 3 or 4 ideas for short stories. The novels, of course, take a long time but I do think that I could finish a short story before school starts in a couple of months. Which leads me to my next point. I have a list of things I want to do before I die, but that’s a pretty vague list, I’ll just touch on the list of things I’d like to finish before school starts. I want to max out my Borderlands 2 character, beat Cuphead, Finish a short story, finish a semi-professional looking version of my Board game which is sorta done, just needs the parts to be 3D printed (that costs money so I have to wait), and I really want to beat Ghost Recon Wildlands Ghost mode. It’s a game I love and enjoy and since I don’t care much for many PvP games and I need an extreme challenge (because I enjoy beating difficult challenges) I thought I’d beat this mode, or die trying. I’ve been close so many times but something always goes wrong, usually, a glitch which is annoying. 

As for the future, I am going to be working my job until I start back at school in September and I might keep in for one shift a week if my fiancee and I think it’s a good idea which will depend on my school schedule and stress levels and how much time school proves to need. On the one hand, my life will be easier and nicer, on the other my fiancee and I get a bunch more money meaning more saving for our future home. Which leads to us moving out and getting married. That’s right folks, as soon as I finish College in April 2020 I am getting a job and as soon as possible my fiancee and I are moving out. We already have a couch, chairs, tables/desks, toaster, kettle, and a bunch of other things which I don’t care to write out. Once we move out it should free me up to at least have my evenings and nights to write, play games, help others and of course, be with my wife. We will likely be waiting 2-4 years before having kids mainly due to the fact that we’ll be in a small apartment or the basement of a house (and we’d rent out the rest of the house to someone else). Perhaps together we’d then work together to be successful on Twitch, Youtube and other online platforms which could even turn into our new job or at least one of our job’s. 

Being a successful full-time Twitch Streamer or at least a Youtuber is kind of my new dream job, its something I never really thought I’d ever want to be. But it would allow me to do lots of gaming and leave the rest of my spare time to writing, help others, doing other cool things and being with my wife/family. I know now more than ever that gaming will likely run through my veins forever, it is something I’ve always loved. Streaming gaming, and hopefully building gaming communities in the name of God is something I really want to do. I want to make the gaming world a better place through influence and passion. I’d get to let out my gamer side on a daily basis, be competitive, and do it all with my friends and hopefully my family. The rest of my life would be spent doing Gods work and hopefully writing a few books along the way and a few hundred more articles. (maybe make a few board games too lol)

My website is basically finished and all I am doing now is adding content. It mostly acts as a portfolio and a place for me to go when I need to remember what it is I do lol. I have a lot of hobbies so it is nice to have all my content in one place so when I don’t know what to do next, I can look there to remember all my hobbies and which one I should work on next. My fiancee has a very similar setup for her website and she seems to think of it the same way.

Anyway, folks, that’s really it for this blog post on this old retired blog. If all goes according to plan, next summer will be huge. I’d be moving out, getting married, getting a ‘real’ job, finishing school (for good), and hopefully starting a successful and fun Twitch and Youtube channel. Weekend programming progress...is always slow! So in the interim, I’m going to do a post-mortem for the game I was developing about a year ago, and then stopped.

Game name: CHEST (working title)

Genre: Two player vs. chess-like game

Description: Well, chest was an odd sort of game. It’s basically chess, as in, turn-based, except pieces had various abilities. For example, the blue ghost swapped pieces, the swirly guy spawned little yellow dudes, and so on. Each piece had something unique about it. You could also move two pieces a turn which set up some really devastating combos

The game was centered around the yellow guys in particular - once you moved them, they then continuously walked forward at the end of the turn in a death march, blowing up the first unit (friend or foe) in their way, and killing themselves in the process. The aim of the game was to either remove all of your opponent’s yellow guys, or get a yellow guy to your opponent’s last row. 

My initial conception of the game was a sort of, competitive, turn-based incredible machine style game where you have two competing factories with moving parts that you place and reconfigure each turn in response to what your opponent was doing. More than half of my pieces had end of turn effects (e.g. pushing, destroying things near it, etc.). I wanted both players to develop a well-oiled machine that constantly spat out units to try and overwhelm the other!

What went right: 

Arrays/matrix usage: A few things! This was my second attempt using arrays seriously in a game, and I learnt a ton about what to do and what not to do when using them. It was also my first go using enums, which I am making heavy use of in this game.

Sprite size: I’m somewhat happy with the sprites that I used - they were 32x32 in size, I believe, so they were a lot more manageable to animate. I am a very, very terrible artist with no intrinsic talent, so I turned to pixel art as there’s only so many configurations to place the pixels in before I get something that looks decent using trial and error! This was also the first time I picked and chose a colour pallette and stuck with it throughout the game!

Going online: Another first was that I figured out netplay! This was a feature that took an incredibly long time to get my head around, and it’s something I’m still not really comfortable with. Nevertheless, the code is in place and I can re-use it in the future if needed.

Playtesting: Finally, I learned quite a lot about balance. I played a lot of matches in tabletop simulator with friends and went through a bunch of iterations for my pieces.

What went wrong: 

No playtesters: Because I didn’t have a working AI, I relied on players to connect to other players in order to test my game (or internalise quite a complex set of rules and play in tabletop simulator). Finding players willing to play against other players was incredibly tough, and was THE major reason why I stopped development of the game.

Looking before I lept: I programmed a bunch of piece actions BEFORE playtesting them, which was an incredibly silly idea in hindsight, but hey, that’s how you learn.

A very slow, grindy game: Initial implementations of the game was incredibly slow, with matches taking 30+ minutes. This was because, piece production often ended in stalemates, the game was overly defensive, and the multitude of options you had (two moves per turn, end of turn effects etc) meant that one had to do a lot of thinking in order to come up with the optimal move that wouldn’t put you in danger!

Behind the scenes: I had done what essentially amounted to a hack-job because of how I conceptualised the end of turn effects. I had one big script that looped through the board to find all pieces and then executed their effects in turn. All these effects were located in this script and it was absolutely awful! If I had my time again I’d use a stack to load up each piece, and have them do their effects when they were at the top of the stack, placing the code where it SHOULD have gone - inside the piece itself.

Overall assessment: An interesting but overall ill-conceived game that didn’t really appeal to other gamers, filling a niche that didn’t really need filling. Battles were extremely tactical but lacked engagement, I am confident most players would not have gotten through many games before calling it quits. If I ever return to this, I would completely rework most pieces to turn it into a fast, aggressive game.
