I'm weak for movies that are a little confusing, a little messy and clearly of questionable quality, but with characters so likable that I find myself watching them again and again and again just because of them.

So this @laurenillustrated artwork and all the vintage-dream-casting at @hotvintagepoll got me thinking: if Scooby Doo were a thing in the 1890s, then a few years later it would be a NATURAL for silent Hollywood. So who do we cast in Hal Roach’s hit 1915-1919 series of Scooby Doo live-action comedy shorts?
Shaggy and Scoob are both easy, because look, here’s Charley Bowers! He always plays chaotic pottering-around-with-machinery types, which is exactly the vibe that 1890s Shaggy gives, and he does so with a surrealist slapstick edge that’s perfect for the material. On top of that, Bowers is a pioneering stop-motion special effects artist—so he can also be our lead animator, and the rapport between live-action Shaggy and his animated Scooby will be delightful.
Like Shaggy, Velma has to have a certain slapstick quality (“Where are my glasses? I can’t see without my glasses”), so it’s lucky we have Alice Howell—nicknamed “the female Charlie Chaplin” by the tiresome people who use that type of comparison. The point is, she can give Velma the bookish self-possession suggested in the 1890s look, AND also run through a gajillion doors in a wacky hallway chase culminating in a spectacular pratfall.
(Mabel Normand is another contender, but her acting style seems a couple notches too naturalistic for Scooby Doo. I definitely see her directing a bunch of the shorts though.)
Fred needs to be both a conventionally hot manly-hero type and a bit of an idiot, so hello Reginald Denny! This British actor emigrated to Hollywood in the early 1910s, became a comedy star, and played himbos so well that he was still playing them into the 1960s. He’s even in the Adam West Batman movie as the naval hero Commodore Schmidlapp, who’s so ditzy he doesn’t realize he’s been kidnapped by the Penguin.
Daphne is a fun one—let’s assume that by this point, Pearl White is tired of all those straight-up action serials like The Perils of Pauline, and wants to do a spoof for a change. With silent comedy shorts there’s always a chance the plot will wander away and leave the individual gags running the store, and White brings enough tension and gravitas to prevent that situation and keep things moving. At the same time, since she favors action roles, she can easily match the dynamism of Bowers, Howell, and Denny.
And that’s to say nothing of all the silent actors who could appear in bit parts on their way to fame. Maybe the gang tears the mask off the ghost, and discovers it’s an early-career Buster Keaton?

Haunted Car Au part 13
Previous. Masterpost
“You done figuring out the sound files yet?” Duke asked while tapping on the hood of the Batmobile.
He was excited to hear a campy “Yes, Sir!” Come out of the open windows of the car.
“Neat, first off, any files that have your name in it?” He was a little disappointed, but still snorted to hear the tragic ‘Noooooo’ from Darth Vader.
“I think Red Robin has some pronoun type files in there, what are yours?” A mix of sir’s, dude's, and bro's were played until Duke had to stop the guy.
“Ok, what about age?” He wasn't expecting to get a straight answer, but when the car played a Scooby-Doo cut of ‘those meddling kids’, he was confused.
“So a kid?” Duke questioned. He got a weird mix of 'Ehhh', 'Kinda', and 'close enough' type files.
“We can worry about that later, any ideas how you got stuck?” A short ‘Nope’ with a pop on the P played.
Talking to the car guy was strange. Getting answers could be easy or turn into 20 questions trying to clarify an answer. So far, Duke knew the person:
is male or male presenting
a meta
has no clue how he possessed the car
has a good understanding of current memes
was possibly in their teens (probably a bit younger than Duke, but older than Daimian)
was a street kid? (When asked where he lived the car played “Why should I worry” from an older Disney movie about homeless animals in New York or something. He had to look it up.)
has a good sense of humor
and is taking their situation in stride.
Duke really had to wonder what their life has been where this is not a vast problem to fix…. And whether or not he should argue his ‘notification tone’ being a choir singing.
He really does not get paid enough for this, but it is better than the other stuff Gotham throws at the Bats.
“Mind if I get you up on the lift and check the engine? Might give us some clues.” After an affirmative from the car guy, Duke got to work.

I think they should let Scooby Doo shows and movies hibernate for a few years.
I'm just saying, when it "died" and came back with Zombie Island, Witch's Ghost, and eventually What's New Scooby Doo, shit was great.
When "Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue" was bad, eventually the really fun movies like Abracadabra Doo and the series Mystery Inc came out.
Let Velma kill itself for a bit. Let the greedy WB execs fester in the rotting corpse of a show they gave no shits for. Leave it alone for like 5 years or more.
Come back and Scooby Doo has an anime with the most GOATed fight scenes and sakuga tier chase scenes. Some JJBA tier references to old bands. Scooby eats God, mistaking him for a sandwich.
Anyway Velma got greenlit for a second season and I know I didn't watch it. Be apathetic towards the bitch the rest of its miserable run and let the gang come back for the better down the road

So y’all fw some MORE Mr. Puzzles headcanons?
Cause I got some :]
Even though he streams his content, Mr. Puzzles hates streaming over normal television and believes it ruins the momentum. The only thing he appreciates about streaming is the lack of ads. No matter how bad the ratings are, Puzzlevision is an ad-free service!
To add, product placement is a no-go. Any products he might advertise on a show are all Puzzlevision branded, not that he’d advertise much. He’s a smart business man, which I’ll go in-depth with another time.
He’s all about authenticity with his actors an really hates big-time celebrities. Celebrities are snobbish and aren’t easy for Puzzles to handle. He also doesn’t want people to engage with his shows solely because of famous names. The day he hires a celebrity is the day he becomes a sellout, and the idea of selling out terrifies him.
Mr. Puzzles does an extensive background check of every single cast member he recruits. Not just because he’s trying to find the perfect actors, but because he’s trying to find people that wont be missed if they mysteriously disappear for long periods of time. After a cast’s likability begin to dwindle, Puzzles brings them back as if nothing happened. Previous cast members won’t remember their time at Puzzlevision and have a hazy memory for a bit before they adjust to normal. If they watch a show that they’ve been in, they’re so disconnected from the show that they won’t recognize themselves. However, Puzzles is careful to avoid reruns after switching casts.
He absolutely hates reality tv for multiple reasons. It’s the farthest thing from reality, everything is so fake, and the writing is HORRIBLE! If the audience demands it, he’ll make a reality tv show, but it would be one of the few things he wouldn’t mind not hitting 5 stars. The less creative impact he has on the show, the less he cares for it.
He prefers live-action over animation, but highly respects animated shows.
He likes movies but heavily prefers tv since television has always been frowned upon within Hollywood and the entertainment industry (It’s actually interesting to know the beef between movie studios and tv, I recommend checking it out. To put in into perspective, picture the Disney theatre movies vs the straight to video movies: there’s a huge difference and it’s somewhat obvious of the cash-grab tv movies/shows are. The purpose of tv has always been a quick cash grab, actually. Kinda like the first content farm, to an extent). Puzzles wants to prove that television is a respectable media outlet and shouldn’t be frowned upon within the industry.
He is familiar with almost any televised language. The only major issue is that, yes, he needs subtitles to completely understand. However, he can hold a relatively decent conversation in most languages, he’d just need a few refreshers.
Already talked about it last post but he likes to cook and really enjoys cooking/baking shows. Y’know that thing where you’re good at one but not as good at the other cause they’re so different (you cook to your liking vs following a strict recipe for the best dessert outcome)? I feel like Puzzles would be perfect at baking alone but any baking show he does goes to absolute shit. However, he’s not as great at cooking alone (since he can’t taste) but it much better with a sous-chef guiding him.
This was someone else’s hc (I don’t remember who’s, I’m srry), but they brought up that the order of shows Mr. Puzzles makes with the SMG4 crew reflect the shows he watched growing up (the kids-y shows, family disney-type movies, teen stuff like Scooby-doo, and gameshows). I’d like to add that he enjoys making gameshows the most because he can be the main character in every episode, and everyone’s reactions are the most genuine. The only thing I can see Puzzles not liking is the lack of creativity (similar to reality tv). However, it would be pretty fitting for a production company called Puzzlevision to make game shows.
This one’s gonna be a little bit more depressing. No matter how hard he tries or how good he thinks his writing is, Mr. Puzzles cannot write anything original. It’s the curse of seeing every piece of televised media to ever be produced. He tries his best to be original but as the puzzlevision arc continues, he gradually stops trying to be original, which is what ultimately causes him to lose. While Puzzles keeps trying to copy other successful media and failing, it’s the originality the SMG4 crew produce that gets them to 5 stars (and extremely quickly, too). Puzzles fails to realize that the shows he loves and tries to replicate were original, too, and that’s what got them to succeed in the first place. I feel like this success from SMG4’s originality is what sparked Mr. Puzzles’ envy in the first place.
To add to this, Puzzles has been canonically spying and interfering with the SMG4 crew for a while (selling them the showgrounds, the cursed keyboard in the ITS GOTTA BE PERFECT arc, the Western Spaghetti arc), and is almost a direct parallel to SMG4. They both was to succeed and produce original content, striving for perfection. The only major difference is that Mr. Puzzles has been alone for the majority of his life whereas SMG4 has his crew. Despite this, however, SMG4 still snaps and isolates himself similarly to how Puzzles takes complete creative control.
Not having a proper friend/support group is also what causes Puzzles to fail, isolating himself from the rest of the world. Even though we don’t see much of the studio, it’s still pretty run down and barren, implying that Puzzles doesn’t spend much time there, if at all. Puzzles spends most of his time in the shows, directing/acting/ect, and avoiding the real world where he doesn’t have control. When he’s in the real world and bored, he dissociates a lot, planning out his next big projects.
To add, he’s not a big fan of modern technology as a whole, and sticks to older tech (like the older computer model in the teaser between the scooby episode and the gameshow episode and his head being an older computer). Same goes for the studio. I can totally see him walking into the decrepit building with the real estate agent being like “this building hasn’t seen the light of day since 200 b.c,” and Mr. Puzzles ecstatically goes “I’ll TAKE IT!” He’d also do his own renovations and film it for an abandoned house-flipping series, scrapping it later because he sucks at renovating.
He can’t take constructive criticism if his life depended on it. He tries, but all he thinks is “well these people just don’t understand TRUE art in this world!”
He can play shows/movies in the back of his mind whenever, and often does if he’s not on set. Y’know that reddit/tumblr post about the kid who memorized Shrek so much that he could just watch it from memory and his dad would catch him at the 37:14 mark and be like “stop watching shrek and go to bed,”? Yeah, Puzzles is like that. Only difference is that he can’t pause it, only tune it out.
He’ll watch them, but found-family sit-coms depress him. Shows like Friends, It’s Always Sunny in Philly, etc remind him of what his life could’ve been if he could’ve made friends properly.
To add to this, y’know how he projects himself in his shows? What if he did that with shows like Friends, where he’s a part of the cast and laughing along. He’d do it in his sleep and not even realize it’s a dream until the episode ends and he wakes up alone. :,]
On a lighter note, older tvs release a light frequency that gets louder the older it gets. Mr. Puzzles probably hums a frequency without realizing it that people can only hear if they’re close and he isn’t babbling away. Older tvs also kinds adjust(?) where they slightly creek a lil. Mr. Puzzles probably does, to, and it’s the equivalent of him cracking his neck.
He’s also more prone to shock people slightly, depending on how manic he is. If he rubs his gloves together he’s practically a battery.
He has a daily care routine that involves him carefully wiping his screen with windex.
These ones are more show/content based. If these continue to do well I’ll post some more general and maybe relationship hcs :]. If you guys have any suggestions/questions/critiques please let me know!

Scenarios: Halloween Couples Costumes {Ateez}
Scenarios: How Bf!Ateez reacts to you wanting to do a couples costume for Halloween + What you dress up as
Pairings: Hongjoong x Reader; Seonghwa x Reader; Yunho x Reader; Yeosang x Reader; San x Reader; Mingi x Reader; Wooyoung x Reader; Jongho x Reader - All are intended to be Gn!Readers.
A/N: I tried to go with mostly gender neutral costumes or gave an some open ended or mixed options for you to choose your preference from.
Requested by @otakutrash669
Warnings: N/A
Words: 1.2k; short because this is a bonus content post.
Hongjoong: Tim Burton Inspired
Hongjoong was all for wearing a couples costume.
BUT, it ended up being really hard for the two of you to find something you both liked.
The ones you suggested were too goofy for him, the ones he suggested were too hard to find everything for.
Then some were too sexy, or revealing, or wouldn't look they way you wanted.
You were afraid you'd have to scrap the whole idea, but then as you were scrolling through Pinterest, you saw a really cool Tim Burton inspired couples outfit.
The outfits were fairly close to stuff both of you had in your closets.
You showed it to Hongjoong and after thinking on it, he agreed.
So you chose your favorite Tim Burton movie and characters and dressed up together.
You even ended up getting help from a makeup artist friend and the costumes came out 1000x better than you originally imagined.
Seonghwa: Super Hero and Villain
Seonghwa never expected the two of you to NOT do a couples costume. It was one of the go-to thing's he got excited about the second you started dating.
He would be devastated if you said you didn't want to match in some way.
Originally, as Seonghwa was going through another Animal Crossing phase, he suggested you dress up as characters from the game.
But it proved to be a bit difficult. If you went too casual, it would look lazy, if you went realistic, you'd be mistaken as furries.
So, you scraped the idea.
You considered doing Star Wars again, just like the previous year, but you wanted to keep it as a back up just in case you thought of nothing else.
After scouring the internet, you landed on Heroes and Villains.
Something you would enjoy and that could be easily recognized.
Seongwha would play his favorite hero (Spiderman) and you went as your favorite Spiderman Villain (your choice but some options: Venom, Green Goblin, Electro, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Shriek)
Yunho: Disney Characters
"We're gonna do a couples costume right?" You asked and Yunho's eyes lit up as his smile grew.
He nodded in excitement, immediately listing things he had already thought about (he was really excited about this okay?).
You both eventually landed on wanting to do something Disney inspired.
But which characters needed to be rounded down majorly.
You could be a prince/princess (Yunho was willing to be the Princess if you didn't want to), Main character x villain, two side characters, etc.
The options were endless and it almost made it harder to choose.
After various ideas and opinions from others you narrowed it down to a list, before deciding on your favorite.
The narrowed down options were: Prince Phillip and Sleeping Beauty, Kristoff and Anna, Alice and the Mad Hatter /or/ Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell /or/ Peter Pan and Hook (your choice).
Yeosang: Mystery Inc
When you asked Yeosang to do a couples costume with you, he appeared unaffected by the question as he agreed.
But inside his heart was racing as he was fighting back a bright smile, he loved the idea.
Eventually he started to act noticeably more excited about it as you discussed what to wear.
Neither of you wanted to do something that had a lot of effort, but you didn't want it to appear too lazy.
You also wanted something that would be easily recognizable so you wouldn't have to deal with being asked what you were all the time.
After a few thrown out ideas, you finally decided on being Scooby Doo characters
Your choice of character, but I can definitely see Yeosang being Shaggy, or even Fred if his hair was blonde at the time.
(Plus Yeosang in an ascot would be adorable)
Some of the others also considered joining in as well for it to be a group costume.
San: Fairy Tale Inspired
"San?" "Hmm?" "Can we wear a couples costume to the party?"
San looked over at you bright eyed and nodded happily. He had been dying to ask you to match with him, but he thought you might want to wear something else.
He had also been afraid that you would feel forced to say yes if he asked. So the fact that you asked made him very happy.
It ended up being hard to choose something, and you were running out of time before the party.
Finally, after seeing a cool photo of werewolf makeup, the two of you decided to do Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf.
As straight forward as you thought it might be, San had a hard time decided which one to be.
San wanted to be both, a bad-ass altered Red Riding Hood Hunter
AND he wanted to be a cool yet sexy (were)wolf.
You played Rock Paper Scissors, and you won so you were able to choose who you wanted to be. Either way San was happy.
Mingi: Till Death Do Us Part
Mingi was the one who first brought up doing a couples costume.
You were all for it, but figured he brought it up because he saw something he wanted to do.
Which made you suspicious.
He admitted that you were right, and pulled up this photo that he wanted to recreate, as well as a bunch more just like it.
You laughed, and agreed. It was nothing over the top, and it was funny and cute.
You figured might get hot wandering around like this, so you decided to have other costumes on underneath to match that you could reveal if you wanted to remove the sheets.
Underneath you decided to dress as a couple who had died on your wedding day.
So even if you took the sheets off, you would still be matching underneath.
Wooyoung: Pokemon
"Should we do a couples costume?" "Can we do a couples costume?"
You ended up asking about it at the same time after you saw an ad for a Halloween movie.
You laughed and agreed readily.
Wooyoung immediately got excited and started throwing out various suggestions but there were so many ideas to choose from,
On a day out, you ended up going to a costume store to get ideas.
When you pointed out the Pokemon section Wooyoung gasped and ran over.
Wooyoung immediately claimed Ash as his costume, but you were more open minded.
Whether you wanted to be Misty (or Brock?), Pikachu, or another fave Pokemon, you had many choices to choose from.
Jongho: Serial Killer and his Victim
When you first asked Jongho to wear a matching costume with you he was a bit reserved.
As much as he loved you, he wasn't sure how he felt about couples costumes.
He wanted to make you happy though, so he agreed.
Wanting him to enjoy it as well, you decided to surprise him with a more fun costume that he might like.
So, one day you plopped down a pile of costumes and fake blood in front of him and he looked at you confused.
Pulling out the Scream mask you tossed it to him before holding up an already bloody and altered shirt and held it up to yourself.
He stared at you for a second before laughing, understanding what you were suggesting.
He nodded in approval as he started to get the costume together.
It was a matching costume, though a bit morbid, but it made him laugh and that was enough for you.
xx
not super detailed or long as this ended up as a Bonus Post for the day!

Jason Grace x Childish!Reader
warnings; none ! author's notes; STAND ALONE JASON GRACE CONTENT AFTER YEARS OF TRYING TO CONVINCE MYSELF TO WRITE FOR HIM :(( i love you jason grace, you would've adored watching cartoons with me !
MR SERIOUS AND HIS SUPER UNSERIOUS PARTNER ???
you already know they're gonna be the power couple !!!
sticking stickers on him when he's stressing over demigod things or school work maybe
like he's clenching his pencil/sword in his hand and you just show up putting a little "you can do it !" star sticker on his face and he loosens up a bit
has an entire notebook filled with stickers you've given him :3
his desk is ALSO full of the sheets, empty and filled
moving on from stickers !
you make him watch cartoons with you fairly often, mainly just because he likes being around you and it's usually what you're doing anyways soo
would've ate up scooby doo me thinks and maybe adventure time ? maybe even over the garden wall
CRAYON DRAWING TOGETHER ??
because what better way to destress from almost dying everyday of your life than to draw your partner in crayon ?
really likes the older Disney movies like aristocats and lady and the tramp !
comments on how they're kinda like you guys which makes you go crazy
gifting each other little trinkets ?? i think soo !!!
you guys probably have like- matching lps toys
and you do stuff like this with them^^
Leo teases him for it but he really does nott care. like at all.
as long as you're happy, he's happy and he wouldn't have it any other way !
he honestly finds your ability to stay so happy go lucky and positive quite amusing
you're a demigod risking their life everyday and yet you still like coloring and dragging a stuffed animal around like a child ?
he just wonders how you do it..
continuing on, i think you being childish and loud probably helps him break some of his.. prim and proper Roman child soldier stuff !
like sometimes you'll catch him having a little skip on his step or humming a song you got stuck in his head
anything that breaks character for him is a little win in your book :)
starts keeping little candies you like on him maybe ?
like he always has fruit snacks or sour gummy worms for you
nobody really questions it and just assumes someone just gave it to him
that's until you show up by his side and he hands it to you with a soft smile !
probably warns you about cavities and whatnot but im sure he realizes it's never gonna stick-
this was kind of all over the place so im super sorry for that ! i just REALLY needed to finally writing something for one of my faves :((

Modern! Meadowlark Headcanons (Cole Edition)
(I decided to separate the characters because I have a lot to say about each of them and if I did them all in one post it would be extremely long)
• They would be known as the quiet awkward kid in school. People think they’re nice but nobody besides the Lark knows them well. A little bit of a mystery
• Probably in a club or two (most likely music and/or drama) but they don’t interact much with the other members unless absolutely necessary or it’s approached first (They’re too shy to approach first)
• If they were in Drama, it would rarely audition for a part in a play. They mostly work backstage as a sound designer or design set pieces
• Wouldn’t like horror movies. They don’t enjoy the violence and gore. Also not a fan of movies depicting war or end of the world type shit
• Huge book worm. They would spend their lunch breaks in the library reading. Not picky about the genre they read but it does have a soft spot for fantasy and mystery
• Would prefer online learning over actually going to school
• Had a 2020 alt phase (it haunts them in their dreams but they also sort of miss it)
• Not a huge fan of anime but they wouldn’t mind watching it if their friends really wanted to
• Huge fan of Gravity Falls. It finds the mystery aspect of the show interesting and they relate to Dipper a lot
• Beside Gravity Falls, they also like Over the Garden Wall, Charlie Brown movies, Winnie the Pooh, and Scooby Doo (specifically the old school and mystery incorporated versions but any of era is fine with them)
• I’m a bit iffy on this one but I think they would like gummies and probably prefer them over chocolate. It wouldn’t like sour ones though, just classic gummy candy like gummy worms, bears, etc
• LOVESSS ASMR. They would listen to it all the time. Reading, doing homework, sleeping- whatever it’s doing, they’re listening to asmr
• Other than music, their favourite subjects in school would be history and english (specifically creative writing, they don’t really enjoy writing essays)
• Prefers older music rather than today’s music. Unless it’s folk of some kind, they would prefer to listen to bands and musicians from the 60s and back. Additionally, it strikes me as the type to believe love songs back then and better than love songs today
• Would love watching those analysis videos on YouTube. It doesn’t matter what the topic being discussed is, they’ll watch it anyways because it just enjoys learning
• Because of their love for analysis videos, they know a bunch of fun facts about a variety of subjects. If someone were to ask them something about a particular subject, they would most likely know the answer, no matter how obscure it is
• I feel like they would absolutely rock the very controversial fashion trend of wearing skirts over pants. This is already somewhat canon but I still think it’s worth mentioning
• Along with skirts over pants, Cole would prefer wearing loose comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in
• Some staple pieces in their wardrobe would include: Long sleeve shirts, baggy t-shirts, sweater vests, button ups, zip up sweaters, loose pants, and flowy skirts
• Their style is very casual with just a dash of whimsy to keep things interesting, add some drama y’know?
That’s all the headcanons I have for now, next up is Clémentine <3
#Sorry this took so long to post#I literally did this all last night and I was so tired afterwards#I was practically falling asleep as I was writing#Still it was fun coming up with these#Yaelokre#meadowlark headcanons#meadowlark#cole yaelokre#the lark

What I think the Bad kid’s favorite shows/movies were as kids (obviously the fantasy variations of these shows, also some of these may just be American shows)
Fig: Power puff girls and My little pony. Fig still loves these shows, during freshman year when she was still a trying to be edgy she would have denied it.
Adaine: Wasn’t allowed to watch tv, but she did read the Frog and Toad books front to cover over and over again. She had to hide them at a certain point because she was “too old” for them.
Riz: Scooby-doo, he’d have it whenever it on, He knew the exact hours it aired. He’d solve the mystery himself before the show was over but he still loved them. Sklonda got him a dvd compilation as a gift one day and then he’d just watch it over and over.
Kristen: Also wasn’t allowed to watch movies (unless they were religious), but once she got to watch Winnie the Pooh and she fell in love with the character. (I 100% picked this because of Ally’s Pooh push).
Gorgug: Wonderpets, he was just fascinated with the way it was animated. His parents made him little metal figures of all of the character that he keeps on his shelf.
Fabian: Peter Pan, he loved the book, though he didn’t like how they portrayed the pirates. “His papa wasn’t evil.” When he watched movie came out he wanted to watch it over and over again. There was times where Cathilda might as well dragged him to bed.
Fig: 100% All her school books were covered in stickers and drawings from her favorite kids cartoons. She had shirts and purses and hairclips and all kinds of pink and frilly accesories with the characters on them that she was STILL wearing right up until her horns started coming in. Now that she's mellowed out a bit you might catch her with an occasional hair-clip or tshirt that doesnt really match her aesthetic anymore but somehow doesnt look out of place with her other clothes.
Adaine: Still loves her books and the bad kids bought her a new set after her house burned down, plus some more they thought she'd like along the same vein. Girls nights are usually spent introducing Adaine to all the sugary sweet childrens television she missed as a kid and she gets really into it. Kristen also gets to broaden her cartoon knowledge this way so its killing two birds with one stone.
Kristen: Tried to introduce her friends to some of her favorite cartoons as a kid but only got a couple episodes in before they were all horrifed about how culty it was and never tried to watch them again (she honestly did not remember them being this bad). Fig has made it her mission to educate the other two bad girls on the joys of childrens media and every two weeks they spend a night not sleeping and binging entire seasons of cartoons.
Riz: Loved Scooby doo but, inexplicably, hates police procedural shows (aka Law and Order) because they're so unrealistic and have dumb twists 90% of the time. He loves crime documentaries with a passion but his mom has to watch them first because if he watched one and they didnt reveal the killer at the end he would not stop trying to investigate it himself to solve the mystery. She had to flat out had to ban him from watching documentaries on cold cases because obviously they dont know who commited the crime in those instances and it hooks into his brain too strongly. He's solved at least two since sophomore year (evidence and tips were sent anonymously to the authorities and arrests were made) but it screwed with his already messed up sleep schedule to the point where he made himself physically sick and Sklonda had to put her foot down.
Gorgug: Didnt really watch all that much television as a kid but used to watch a lot of gnomish cartoons when he did, or shows with talking animals (there tends to be a big overlap in this regard). He preferred playing outside and would take the cartoon figurines his parents made for him on his own made up adventures.
Fabian: Peter pan, Hook and The Princess Bride were basically on repeat in Fabians house when he was growing up. He knows that Peter Pan and Hook were portraying pirates as bad but reasoned they must just be mean pirates unlike his Papa. His Papa defeated all the bad ones and got rid of the Pirate King after all. The pirates in all those shows were still undeniably cool though to his child mind.

In honor of Valentine's day, I present you headcanons of my all time favorite Total drama couple: Alejandro and Heather.
Alejandro loved Valentine's day since he was a pre-teen, the atmosphere filled with love and hope always was delightful and appealing him. Heather, on the other hand, isn't a fan of this celebration. She loved watching teenage drama series, movies, shows. All of them had romantic relationships/interests between the main characters, so she dreamed of having one as well. But to be fair, she felt nothing towards Valentine's day, like it was an ordinary day. Although, when she and Alejandro have officially started dating, she's warmed up a little to the Day of love.
Usually, Alejandro is the one who sets up dates, but sometimes Heather takes control over it. Most of the time she doesn't know what she's doing, but they both ending up enjoying their date.
Heather doesn't know how to show affection, it's a complete opposite for Alejandro, who's very affectionate. Because of this, she feels like she's not reciprocating enough to his love and care.
Alejandro's hobby is dollmaking. Once he made a pair of dolls which resembled him and Heather holding hands. These dolls now sitting on a shelf of a glass door closet next to their bed.
Heather often uses Alejandro as a pillow or laying on top of him. She's just likes to cuddle him or be cuddled by him.
After the volcano accident, Alejandro needs glasses. Not in a way that he can't see without them, but his vision was damaged. Problem is, he doesn't like wearing glasses. He tried to use contact lenses, but turns out, he's allergic to them. Heather is pushing him to start wearing glasses more often, every time they're at a shopping center, she takes him to optician's in order to choose a new frames.
They do movie nights quite often. Ever since Heather made Alejandro watch a couple of movies with her, he's started to like television. Usually they would watch a horror movie, sometimes anime or Scooby-Doo.
Heather's favorite dessert is a blueberry muffin dipped in chocolate. Every time when Alejandro wants to surprise her by making something delicious, he's always making these muffins.
Alejandro is easy swooned by even smallest bits of affection by Heather. She gifted him a rose? His happiness is unmeasurable. She commitmented him? Head over heels. She called him "love" or copied his "mi amore"? He will remember this for weeks.
Alejandro's favorite flowers are sunflowers, but he'll be more appreciative if gets roses (his second favorite flowers). It would be weird to have a giant flower in a bucket, because he couldn't find a vase that fits. He did sometimes imagined that, but he wasn't ready for Heather to actually get him a middle-sized sunflower. Thankfully, it was only once and he won't be dealing with a 5 feet (152.4 cm) tall flower ever again.
They're often attacking eachother, but in a harmless, playful manner. Like pushing each other into a snowdrifts or into a pile of leaves. The least thing they want to do is to cause any harm, but if they do accidentally hurt each other, they'll apologize immediately.

Rite Here Rite Now thoughts and reactions (spoilers below)
The performance:
-> Twenties live?? The dancers? loved them! I waited to hear Twenties Live like crazy! I do wish we could hear Swiss louder with the whispers...
-> I need that acoustic rendition of If You hHave Ghosts... the ghoulettes were amazing
-> I refuse to believe that Tutti Frutti nailed that one jump towards the end of the performance, what the heck?!
-> The searchlights in the Watcher in the Sky!
-> the use of lights to accentuate Satan's names! YES! It felt so right, it felt so cool, I loved that! Satanic imagery whenever his name was mentioned? YESSS They play fewer and fewer songs from the early albums so I wish they make some new songs that just go LU-CI-FEEER
-> The ghouls looked so good! But there was so little of Swiss :( I wanted to see him go crazy and move those hips. I caught a glimpse of him once or twice but I believe they never focused on him for long enough to let him shine. It's a pity because I love watching him!
-> I thought there would be a long scene of us getting ciriced but it was just a few moments? still cool, just a bit short
-> People are saying that the skeletons were actually people with body paint, and I fully believed that it was a body suit :0 I noticed their breasts looked good but??? how did I miss this (I do have an eyesight problem but I thought it wasn't that bad haha)
The rest:
-> the sass between Nihil and Seestor was so good? Loved seeing their interactions
-> They EMBRACED the 'Scooby Doom', the 'Scooby Doo Chase Music' allegations, the MOAC animation was surreal as heck. Tobias saw our jokes and said 'hold my communion wine and watch this'
-> We got an exclusive footage of a Papa Sock, do not confuse with the DeFroque Soq. We saw the Obscene Annointed Foot.
-> Papa literally dissociates backstage :')
-> The twins? Seestor having twins?? There were two kiddos frollicking on a field loool and I always thought that Copia felt like he had a sibling or a twin but I thought it was just a crack theory!
-> I want Ashley's job
-> The twins played by Toblerone's kids are dead apparently and I doubt it will ever be explained xD
-> There was only one fart joke and I anticipated like 3 at least
->I remember seeing this meme
and let me tell you it's 100% true he does not, it's just for comedic effect and I love it, people got high fives from him and I was so jealous
-> the balloon part was so confusing and funny and the way he was actually faceplanted on the floor the whole time broke me
-> I made a joke about how maybe they'll get rid of Seestor due to all the issues they had with her actresses but there she is, transparent and glowing. they can't explain further changes with plastic surgery anymore lol
-> Copia in a position of actual power? HUH
-> He has his Cardinal makeup back!! We went to the movie wearing this exact pattern and we were so happy to see it on screen <3 And his whole new outfit is lit, I am forever in love with his Cardinal Era clothes so this one was a Treat
-> Copia was babied so much in this movie and it was just what I needed for my soul, do not @ me
-> The pentagram below Nihil and Seestor gives me hope for a certain theory the fandom likes a lot?? why was it there
-> New song good!!!
-> also, Nihil's speech seems to be a homage to all the dead performers we know and love, especially the ones Tobias looks up to and gets inspiration from and I could feel his sadness in that speech, ok. I think he wishes to be able to entertain people after his own death just like them, he wants people to play Ghost in 50 years when he's most likely dead and feel their taints tickled. I am tearing up. Life is scary and sad but I have ghosts, right?
Overall it was a very sweet and gentle way to ease the fandom into the next stage and a new Papa, which we have been opposing vehemently for the past year or so. Tobias is a softie and knows his fandom better than I expected, tbh.

I cracked the code
of King Arthur cheap animated movies! I think these should be the correct names/dates/covers.
First of all:
The top one called "König Arthur und die Ritter von Camelot" which has a very similar image for "Quest for Camelot"?
This is just used sometimes at random, but it usually refers to that image that says "Merlin" (circled in blue).
Both those covers all refer to this 1998 animated movie called "Camelot" which is about young Arthur being mentored by Merlin and then going on adventures with Cynthia, Merlin's apprentice, and finally becoming king. How do I know? I bought that "König Arthur und die Ritter von Camelot" on amazon, and it was the same as "Camelot 1998", which has the same cover as that "Merlin" cartoon. This movie is also sometimes identified as from 2008, but no Camelot movie exists from 2008.
This is the imdb page.
Let's continue.
Now, I said that the first picture is sometimes ambiguous, why?
Well, it is sometimes used with a different title and for another movie from 1998 called "The Sword of Camelot" by Dingo pictures. This movie is an ABOMINATION. It is this one. It is basically Merlin narrating in live action and some animation in between (mainly Arthur, Mordred, the holy grail). Mordred is definitely drawn in anti semitic way, and in general the whole animation is atrocious.
Here are the covers you can see if you are looking for this movie:
Keep in mind the art used in these covers looks NOTHING like what is in the movie. Furthermore the covers have events and characters that have nothing to do with the movie at all (the two kids with the dragon? no those are not in the movie).
This movie seems to simply steal other movies' covers. So be careful. If you see a translation of "The sword of Camelot" it is this abomination. Why using this title with random art? Well, that is the German title for the much more popular "Quest for Camelot" and the art was often used as a way to clearly trick people into thinking it would be something similar to that.
This is the imdb page.
Let's move to the next one. In 1998 there were two other animated movies about King Arthur.
One is "Camelot, 1998" which is probably the best one in the lot. It is a musical animated movie that follows the life of Arthur from his teen years to his death. This is the imbd page.
The covers for this one are pretty consistent and always use this picture:
The second 1998 movie is called "Camelot: The legend" and is a bit more goofy. It has an adult Arthur travelling to a council with Guinevere and Mordred, and meeting Lancelot. Mordred is the classic villain.
The covers are similar to the previous movie, but usually less cartoony:
To conclude, the animated king Arthur movies are only these (I highlighted the ones I talked about in this post):
1963 Sword in the Stone
1970 A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court
1978 A Connecticut Rabbit in King’s Arthur Court
1990 Ai to Ken no Camelot
1998 Quest for Camelot
1998 Camelot (with kid Arthur and Merlin, sometimes labelled 2008)
1998 Camelot (musical animated movie, adult Arthur, to distinguish I use Camelot 1999 tag on this blog, as I used to think it was from 1999 in my dvd)
1998 Camelot: The Legend
1998 The Sword of Camelot (don't watch this)
2010 Merlin and Arthur the lion King
2020 Fate/Grand Order THE MOVIE -Divine Realm of the Round Table (two parts)
2020 Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs
2021 Scooby-Doo! The Sword and the Scoob

Lily and the Wonderful World of False Equivalency!
I've been stewing on this a while, and when focusing specifically on her self-appointed career, it's probably one of the worst things she does. (Because peeping at the larger whole has us gazing down the barrel of sexual abuse, grooming, and several other vile things Lily has perpetuated over the years.) But before this, context.
HBomberguy has two videos, one about Fallout 3, the other about Sherlock, both about how they are garbage. Now, this might come as a shock to some that he doesn't bring up other properties in his take downs. In the Fallout 3 video, he doesn't talk about anything other than Fallouts 1-3. In Sherlock, he does branch out, but only into Moffat's other projects and the original Sherlock Holmes story's. Both videos are very tightly focused and worth the watch for it.
Now, those who have had the major lapse in judgment that I had in 2016 watch the infamous Steven Universe video and probably remember that nearly 30 minute long diatribe about Kotor... The comparison doesn't really work on many levels, but the big one the little problems all lead to is that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a rated T role-playing game that will have infinitely less restrictions compared a primarily children focused show on a major television network. Leave light sith, dark jedi, gems being tools, and anything about the diamonds at the damn door. despite passing similarities, they are vastly different beasts in execution.
Then more recently we had her compare Laios and his quest to save his sister to an episode of Digimon where Tai is upset his sister got sick and there isn't more he can do to help her. Leave alone questions of morale, preparedness, and general dispositions. Lily Orchard compared the entirety of what will be a 30+ episode adult anime that already existed as a near 100 chapter Manga to just 1 episode of Digimon. Are you out of your fucking mind woman??? I hate to break it to you but Tai doesn't explain why he's upset just because he's at wits end! HE DOES IT FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE SINGLE DIGIT AGE CHILDREN THE SHOW IS MADE FOR!!!
It's such a shitty way to bolster weak points because it leaves no room for nuance. Kotor and SU both involve space colonization, but that's about where the comparison ends. Any nuance from there on out can just be explained by how vastly different they are and the vastly different circumstances of their creation. Steven talks the diamonds down for many reasons, but key amongst it all is that it's a children's show. Like how being a light side sith can have nuance for many reasons, but key amongst it all being the expectation that you aren't a child and are fully aware of the consequences of your actions and the actions made around you.
It can't be anything other than shallow mud slinging because the only way it works at all is by that single vague thread. By this logic, I can say, oh let's see... "Anything about creating personas to strike fear into certain people is the same." And it doesn't sound like I don't have a point until you are tasked with acknowledging that the SAW movies, Persona 5, and Scooby-Doo have no meaningful differences. Sure you can pontificate a bit on it, but I'd raise you the fact that the rpg elements of Saw are dogshit. The fact that anybody gives Lily a pass on this let, leave alone her general hostility or the mountains of evidence of just how vile of a person she is, it's as laughable as it is depressing.
She's a terrible critic, a garbage writer, and a truly despicable person. And this has been one of many snippets of exactly why.
#lily orchard#lily peet#lily orchard is a bad writer#lily orchard is a bad critic#lily orchard is garbage and here's why

Onward II Exandria: Sir Barley and Sir Ian and The Legend of Vox Machina' (aka 'Onward to Critical Role')
SYNOPSIS: The two teenage elf brothers - Ian and Barley from Disney/Pixar's 'Onward' - are back! This time, swords and sorcery just got real as they've been crossover to the world of 'Critical Role', full of real magic, real epic adventures, and real wizards, bards, and no modern technology!
Life's still full of magic and wonder for Ian and Barley Lightfoot in the city of New Mushroomton after their epic, extraordinary journey to bring back their late father. Now the Lightfoot brothers became closer together than ever and they can't wait to see what new adventures will bring as they are ready to explore a world full of wonder together. But during another ordinary day, everything around them began to twist, turn, and swirl around them when one magical mishap led to another, and the Lightfoot brothers suddenly find themselves magically thrown into...Critical Role's Exandria, a whole other world that exists in the Material Plane full of real fantasy and beyond.
But getting back home won't be so easy as Ian and Barley. As they explore and investigate their bewildering, new surroundings while adjusting to it since they can't go back to their own world, Ian and Barley tried to play out their part and make sense of this strange new world since this may or may not be unlike anything similar to Barley's favorite historically role-playing board game, Quests of Yore.
There, amidst a sea of seriousness and crazy bar fights, Ian and Barley accidentally got involved and changed the campaign of the unlikely, boisterous, ragtag crew and band of unlikely heroes, misfits, and adventurers known as Vox Machina -- twin half-elf siblings, the quick-witted Vex'ahlia "Vex" Vessar and the cunning Vax'ildan "Vax" Vessar; charming gunslinger Percival "Percy" Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III; clever cleric Pike Trickfoot; half-elf red-headed druid Keyleth of the Air Ashari; gnome bard Scanlan Shorthalt; goofy goliath barbarian Grog Strongjaw; and their giant grizzly bear, Trinket.
At first, Ian was a bit off by the wild behaviors of this rowdy group, but he and an excited Barley allow themselves to be joined by Vox Machina and chose to do what they can to help save Exandria from the evil and destruction of dark, magical forces, terrifying power couples, and even a group of not-so-friendly dragons.
Despite all the epic dangers, magical surprises, comedic fun, and even the heartwarming romance of such an epic saga in another world, will Ian and Barley ever make it back home to their own world in one piece? Or they aren't so sure anymore as their fate of being isekai'd and stranded in Exandria began to change...forever?
Then, Ian and Barley find themselves in yet another saga when they are joined by another group of criminals and misfits – The Mighty Nein adventuring party, comprised of Veth Brenatto, Caduceus Clay, Fjord, Jester Lavorre, Beauregard Lionett, Yasha Nydoorin, and Caleb Widogast.

DRACULA SMACKDOWN ROUND 2 MATCH 2: Dracula (Scooby-Doo) vs. Dracula (Renfield)
PROPAGANDA FOR SCOOBY:
“Can turn Shaggy into a werewolf and knows a bunch of monsters that can drive cars. Also has a bunch of hunchbacks working for him. THE HUNCH BUNCH.”
“Look my guy doesn’t have much screen time but I remember *loving* this movie as a kid so he counts. He’s purple, which is a great design choice imo. I remember him being really caring about his daughter, which isn’t typical Dracula, but he’s even cooler for it :) He dances with her and everything. He also threatens Shaggy and Scooby to protect her :) fun times [...] He’s just really sweet and I want him in for nostalgia reasons and also bc I love him”
PROPAGANDA FOR RENFIELD:
“Why he’s a Dracula is that he’s (supposed to be) a continuation of the 30s one, and the footage they had Nic redo is pretty dang close (imo) [...] For why I’m just editing my prop. for the main bc I think it still holds up- Nic cage is just so dramatic? Really sells the whole creepy bit while still laying the movie be a little…camp? Not the right word but yeah. His design evolves from 3 different kinds of unsettling (although it does get less of the creep and more of the uncanny(?)) as he becomes more animalistic and deteriorates, which is so fun! The movie also shouts out Tumblr so that’s a plus. He also has more animal like teeth which I feel like draculas should do more actually. Love fangs, but it just adds that *umph* to it :)”

So... What is a Cartoon Network Show? (A Discussion)
Hey everyone, Arkus back again and I'm doing something that I alluded to a while ago, but I was working on a project involving Cartoon Network. Now for those unaware, I don't consider myself to be a part of the larger animation community like say a Cartoonshi or an Alpha Jay Show. I approach this topic as simply someone who grew up on Cartoon Network and has always had a level of reverence for the channel and undoubtedly had an impact on my formative opinions on the value of animation that I still have to this day.
So when I heard the announcement for Jellystone's Crisis on Infinite Mirths special it got me wondering-wait what is a Cartoon Network show? Now that might seem like an easy answer: "Its a show that was on Cartoon Network," but as I delved deeper into the question there appeared a great amount of context that seemed to go all over the map. I'm sure that there are people more versed in the content that may see this as common sense knowledge. So this is post for people like me-the average enjoyers of animation who want to understand more and have greater context about a channel they may have a soft spot for and want to be better informed when the question is asked, "what is a Cartoon Network show?"
(Yes I did make a spreadsheet on this one. This wasn't a task I took lightly)
So before we really get into the weeds of everything, I do want to make sure we're all on the same page: Cartoon Network is a television channel which is aired in multiple countries around the world which is overseen by the parent company of The Cartoon Network Inc. Which itself is owned by the mega conglomerate that is Warner Bros Discovery. The Cartoon Network Inc. Owns various production companies to make original content the primary ones being Cartoon Network Studios, Hanna-Barbera Europe, and Williams Street. The network itself is broken up into several blocks such as Cartoonito (An early morning block aimed at pre school children) and Adult Swim (An evening block aimed at 18+ individuals). With (At the time I am writing this) the 6 AM to 5PM being aimed at kids 6-12 years old and being considered "Cartoon Network" hours.
So with all the terminology out of the way, lets address the obvious answer of "a Cartoon Network show is a show that aired on Cartoon Network" I would say that interpretation is a bit reductive. Sorta like calling every game that's been on a Nintendo console a "Nintendo game." While not necessarily wrong, it does conflate the idea that the third party games are the same as the first party ones, which also makes a lot of misinformation very possible. Cartoon Network like Nickelodeon, Disney and many other channels can have original programming and acquired programming. Original programming being shows made for and existing solely on this network while acquired programming may be shows or movies that a company is pay broadcasting rights for. You see this a lot in foreign programming. Obviously the various anime that air on Toonami are not creations for Cartoon Network nor produced by them.
However, I think there is some interesting things that would be considered acquired programming on Cartoon Network. Because now we have to talk about why Cartoon Network exists in the first place and that's Hanna-Barbera.
Without Hanna-Barbera there would be no Cartoon Network. Plain and simple. The channel was founded with the intent of housing the animated library of Hanna-Barbera (Along with classic Luney Toons shorts from the 40s) when Ted Turner successfully acquired the studio. Now the thing to remember is Cartoon Network was made in the early 90s, while Hanna-Barbera shorts had existed since the 50s in various forms of syndication. Usually on ABC.
As such these shows like Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry etc. Wouldn't be considered original programming for the network. But it would be a division of Hanna-Barbera that would become what we know today as Cartoon Network Studios, which would begin creating shorts for "What a Cartoon!" Which would in turn become the seeds for Cartoon Network's first original programming.
Speaking of acquired programming, I'm sure if you're of a certain age group you probably remember Warner Bros other network that contained original animation-The WB. And probably more famous its animation block, Kids WB.
Now the reason for the creation of The WB is itself a massive business interests and experiments in network television and policies of the Federal Communications Commission, so I simply want to get into its well known kids programming block, Kids WB that actually served as an outlet for shows created by Warner Bros Animation. Such as
Animaniacs
Pinky and the Brain
Freakazoid!
The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries
Superman: The Animated Series
Road Rovers
Waynehead
The New Batman Adventures
Histeria
Batman Beyond
Detention
¡Mucha Lucha!
What's New, Scooby-Doo?
Ozzy & Drix
Coconut Fred's Fruit Salad Island
Loonatics Unleashed
Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!
Now, you may be seeing some of those names and wondering, "Wait wasn't that on Cartoon Network though?" Which yes, many of these shows would come to Cartoon Network especially in the wake of the WB's own tumultuous history that would eventually see it become one half of what we know todays as The CW. However, many of these shows weren't made to be aired on Cartoon Network, but rather to air on the The WB, which while both were owned by the greater Warner Media parent company, these were acquired programming. I can personally attest to reruns on the Cartoon Network being my exposure to shows like Freakazoid and Superman the animated series and The WB in turn actually had aired some programming from Cartoon Network such as Samurai Jack and Powerpuff Girls. And because these properties are all owned by the same parent company it actually makes the water more muddy on what is "Cartoon Network show." Made even more complicated by the fact that Hanna-Barbera the production company as we know it would be absorbed into Warner Bros Animation in 2001.
We are not talking simply about getting Pokemon because some broadcasting money was exchanged to air in America, we're actually talking about programming that the channel itself was founded on rerunning and playing reruns made by a sister network in the bigger Warner Television umbrella.
As such, while I don't think the "If it aired on Cartoon Network, its a cartoon Network show" is an interpretation I agree with, I can see where there's a shared level of DNA in some of the programs that makes it harder to separate the two.
This actually leads us to another potential answer for what is a Cartoon Network show, "Its a show made by Cartoon Network Studios."
Now as previously mentioned, Turner would acquire Hanna-Barbera and at the time Hanna-Barbera was still making new shows by the time Cartoon Network was started. Such as The New Adventures of Captain Planet, 2 Stupid Dogs, and SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron. But these shows would actually end up debuting and airing on TBS, another Turner/Warner Television Arm. But now we return to that newly formed division in Hanna-Barbera studios known as Cartoon Network Studios. This studio was primarily made for making original programing for What a Cartoon! which would lead to the creation of some of the earliest Cartoon Cartoons.
Johnny Bravo
Cow and Chicken
I Am Weasel
Power Puff Girls
And of course the big one, Dexter's Laboratory.
In fact, when you look back on it, Dexter's Lab is structured similarly to an old school Hanna-Barbera show. Where you'd have say the Huckleberry Hound Show, but you'd have various segments one being the Huckleberry Hound segment, but then having a segment focusing on Hockey Wolf, and a segment with Pixie, Dixie and Mr Jinks. In the case of Dexter's Lab, an episode could contain a Dexter segment then go into Dial M for Monkey or The Justice Friends.
However, these weren't really considered "Cartoon Network Studios" as we in the early 2000s probably remember it. As these productions were still made by Hanna-Barbera for the first few seasons with Cartoon Network Studios being a studio in name only at the time. Probably why you may remember older Dexter episodes ending with the Hanna-Barbera logo then followed up by the Cartoon Network Studios logo in later seasons.
Now if we went strictly by Cartoon Network Studios being what makes a Cartoon Network show (Including the previous five shows mentioned) and originally aired on Cartoon Network then that leaves us with:
Now some eagle eyed viewers may have noticed that this list has some noticeable absences. Such as Courage the Cowardly Dog, Codename Kids Next Door, The Amazing World of Gumball, Teen Titans, and one of my favorite Cartoons of all time, Ed Edd n Eddy. And well the simple answer is that they weren't made by Cartoon Network Studios. Ed Edd n Eddy was made by a.k.a Cartoon and Funbag Animation Studios. Kids Next Door like Sheep in the Big City was made by Curious Pictures. And Courage the Cowardly Dog was made by Stretch Films (Though both Courage and Kids Next Door would have their pilots developed in Hanna-Barbera).
Gumball was made by Hanna-Barbera Europe which is a production company under the Cartoon Network Inc parent, but is again technically not made by CN Studios. Teen Titans is another product of Warner Bros Animation same with Teen Titans Go. Kinda funny that a show that for a time basically controlled the channel wasn't even made by CN Studios. Even the first ever original exclusive show made for the Cartoon Network, The Moxy Show, wouldn't count under this definition as it was made by Colossal Pictures.
There's also the fact that some shows made by Cartoon Network Studios are exclusive to Adult Swim such as Primal and some to the pre-school block of Cartoonito. Now these may actually be more rare than you would first think as really only Jessica's Big Little World was made by CN Studios for Cartoonito, while Adult swim actually has its own interesting background.
You see, Cartoon Network's earliest adult animation was the animated parody talk show, Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Which utilized the classic Hanna-Barbera character as a surrealist spoof of late night talk shows. These would be produced not under the banner of Hanna-Barbera or Cartoon Network Studios, but actually under the name Ghost Planet Industries. This production arm would eventually become The Cartoon Network Inc in house production company for adult animation known as Williams Street. So most shows you might watch on Adult Swim these days are by Williams Street. However, with the fifth season of Samurai Jack, you being to notice that Cartoon Network Studios became more comfortable producing shows that would air in the evening time slot of Adult Swim.
(Also this is a complete side tangent, I didn't want to include failed pilots within this list as it would feel like unnecessary bloat, but I wanted to highlight Korgoth of Barbaria made by Aaron Springer with animation made by Genndy Tartakovsky, which was sadly never picked due to the production cost, would be repackaged as a special on Adult Swim. And this was a co production with Cartoon Network. Like wow. Like wow! I know we have Primal on the list, but its kinda just a bit of trivia I like)
So while they're made by CN Studios, they were not shows accessible to CN's usual demographic time slot.
And that's not even beginning to scratch co-productions Cartoon Network Studios has been involved with over the years. Such as the Star Wars Clone Wars series made by Genndy Tartakovsky or transformers Animated which obviously the Star Wars and Transformers IP isn't owned by Warner Bros. Same with Mixels. But then there's shows such as Villainous and Jorel's Brothers which are actually originally properties made with the Latin American Branches of Cartoon Network. Villainous itself relishes in so many Cartoon Network cameos.
And then there's the CN Real shows which... Yeah I think its not Gatekeeping of me to say they don't count.
And of course there are shows that while made by Cartoon Network Studios would actually end up either being web exclusive or go straight to HBO Max like Get' Em Tommy, Tig n' Seek, and The Fungies! There's also the many, many shorts, pilots, and pilot movies produced by Cartoon Network Studios like Welcome to My Life, Party Wagon, and Fire Breather.
It's a lot. And I get why some people really want to simply it. But it's also why I think simply saying a "Cartoon Network show is a show made by the Studio" you're leaving out several shows, some of which icons of the network. And some CN Studios shows just never had a chance to be part of the Network in the same way. This isn't a question that can be easily simplified like that.
So maybe the answer is "A Cartoon Network shows is a Cartoon Cartoon?" Yeah, afterall Ed, Edd n Eddy are considered Cartoon Cartoons even if they weren't made by CN Studios. Heck, look at competitor Nickelodeon who dubs all their various animated works produced "Nicktoons." Surely, Cartoon Network can do the same, right? Well you see, unlike Nicktoons which became an overall term for all their original programming (and honestly much easier to do research on), Cartoon Cartoons specifically referred to a programming block which then became the collective brand name of the shows that aired between 1996-2009 (Ending with Ed Edd n Eddy). But even then some CN Originals made during that time weren't recognized as Cartoon Cartoons like Samurai Jack. Nor were shows like The Moxy Show recognized retroactively.
The Cartoon Cartoons were:
Dexter's Laboratory
Johnny Bravo
Cow and Chicken
I Am Weasel
The Powerpuff Girls
Ed, Edd n Eddy
Mike, Lu & Og
Courage the Cowardly Dog
Sheep in the Big City
Time Squad
Grim & Evil (Eventually Split into The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy and Evil Con Carne)
Whatever Happened to... Robot Jones?
Codename: Kids Next Door
So really the term Cartoon Cartoons is honestly an exclusive club for a specific set of shows on a specific programming block. That even itself doesn't cover every Cartoon Network show even for a specific era as there are absences from even that. So while Cartoon Cartoons are Cartoon Network shows, not every Cartoon Network Show is a Cartoon Cartoon.
Well then maybe a Cartoon Network show is a show that had to originally aired on Cartoon Network and was exclusive to only it?
With this definition we're abled to include many of the CN Studios shows everyone is popularly aware of while being able to include shows made outside of CN Studios like various Cartoon Cartoons, Warner Bros Animation shows and Hanna-Barbera Europe.
That said, this would exclude things like the shows from The WB and Hanna-Barbera back catalogue, and the Looney Tunes shorts. While Boomerang has become the home for all the classic Hanna-Barbera programing, you can still see the reverence that CN has for its roots from cameos in CN Originals and CN City to new iterations of these shows airing on Cartoon Network like the Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, The Looney Tunes Show, and Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated.
Speaking of Boomerang, while also another channel owned by WBD Television, many of the Cartoon Network shows have migrated over to. Thus not really making them all that exclusive anymore As well, this definition would also include CN Real programs which... yeah umm not sure about that. No matter what Cartoon Network is for Cartoons.
So even this isn't quite a perfect definition. Neither would be using the HBO Max section labeled Cartoon Network because its obviously and incomplete record that has erased so many shows from its catalogue.
So if all these don't work, then what does? What is a Cartoon Network show? Well... Maybe it's not something that fits in with an objective empirical definition. It may sound corny, but Cartoon Network shows always felt like a family to me. In a way that made this sort of recognizable brand between many of its shows even if all of them were very different in their themes, styles, and humor. I think that's why CN City is so in the minds of people, because you took all these varying characters and made a world where none feel out of place. And it wasn't just Cartoon Network characters, you had the classic Looney Tunes and even goddamn Captain Planet roaming around with all these younger shows.
There's even been recent efforts to enforce this cohesion. As the CMYK/Redraw Your World era. Mixing together this color coding with all these various characters and designs to make them all "fit" together so to speak.
Obviously, Im being a bit flowery here. Im sure Cartoon Network and Warner Bros legal team could probably give you an extensive copyright list which they hold and what can be used, but I still think there is value in this being an answer that you can come up with yourself.
And to me, Cartoon Network represents one of the most important channels in animated television. At its highest and even at its lowest. Cartoon Network was the place of creating cartoons, a place where in the short existence of creator driven network television animation, so many legends were born. This was a channel that really brought out so much creativity from talented people that were inspired by the classic animated shows of the golden age who are inspiring new creators even to this day. That shouldn't be forgotten. That shouldn't be erased. Whether unfitted or seasonal rot, this family of cartoons deserves to be remembered.
This is just me, but this is what I would consider Cartoon Network shows. Shows that were made for CN regardless of being CN Studios, Hanna-Barbera Europe, or Warner Bros Animation. The WB, TBS, Adult Swim stuff? That's more off in its own little corner. Cousins of CN almost.
And I guess I turn the question to you, So... What is A Cartoon Network show?
Well that got a bit heavier at the end. But I hope you enjoyed this. I didn't want it to be a big think piece like some of my more recent discussion post. And I didn't just want it to be me making a list without some thoughtful context. If you enjoyed this please give a like or a reblog, I've been trying to do more fun projects on Tumblr recently that go out of my usual postings.
