This is one of those hella complicated, hella melodramatic rollercoaster of a ride historical cdrama’s. It’s so much fun, yet exhausting at times too. It does take a handful of episodes to fully get into, but once you do, if you’re into this type of genre, since this won’t be everyones cup of tea, you’ll be fully hooked. The female lead has the best storyline and character growth throughout even though she’d could be a bit obtuse at times but no more worse then her counterpart. The main male lead I wanted to throttle him and don’t get me started on the ‘brother’. All the torture he put his ‘sister’ through. Ugh. In the end though, with all the tragedies, it made a excellent melodramatic drama.

Synopsis :

A story that follows a princess with amnesia who meets a prince that does not want to marry her and how they find a place for themselves despite the complications of the time.

Crown Princess Rong Le of Western Qi wakes up from a coma with no memories, but she becomes suspicious of her real identity due to traces of the past. To form a political alliance with Northern Lin, Rong Le is ordered to marry Prince Wu You, who refuses her at the door.

With the marriage falling through, Rong Le assumes the identity of the tea house owner, Man Yao. She begins secretly searching for invaluable books left behind by the Qin Family that were said to bring greatness to a nation. Her path leads her to Wu You, who falls for her without knowing that she is the princess he rejected. It may already be too late for him to learn the truth because she has new orders to marry General Fu Chou of Northern Lin.

My thoughts on this drama :

I had read mixed reviews about this show, but I liked the synopsis so I decided to give it a shot (also to calm my addiction with Luo Yunxi following Till the End of The Moon and Love is Sweet).

I ended up liking this drama a lot! The plot was pretty well written and the female lead is powerful and outspoken, never dependant on her male counterpart, which is a nice point. Also, I may be completely blind, because I really didn't notice the subtelty of the relationships between some of the characters until the very end.

I am very staisfied by the way they tied up the end of the story, as it was not your usual bland happy ending. I still cried plenty of tears again, with this one.

So I finished watching Princess Silver ...

... and I'm not okay. Actually, I'm still crying while writing his ... [Mild Spoilers ahead]

I didn't have high expectations, as I had only started the series for Luo Yunxi. I was all the more pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it from the first episode. While the script shows the usual weak point, I'm by now accustomed to when i comes to cdramas, they managed to maintain the suspense of the initial mystery and still deliver a heart-wrenching final with a well build up twist. While I did see some of it coming, it still managed to surprise me. The last sequence of Prince Qi on the throne was just cruel and Rong Le's reaction quite satisfying.

I'm glad, that the YouTube recommendation algorithm made me discover Luo Yunxi. It has been such a joy (a painful one at times) to dive into more of his roles and cdramas in general. By now, I understand better which kind of roles appeal to him and I am very grateful for that. This is exactly my kind of suffering, I need my fictional characters to go through - and Luo Yunxi is so good at it!

I also liked the rest of the cast a lot. Zhang Xue Ying was a convincing cast for the FL, who brought a lot of chemistry with everyone around her - which is key with a story-line like this. Both Fu Chou and Hen Xiang had my whole heart by the end of the show!

While the ending made me cry a lot, I think it's perfect for a story like this and elevates the whole drama! It also makes me want to re-watch part of the show now. I would give "Princess Silver" a 7/10!

Double Love. 6

Another drama that starts off nicely and goes downhill midway and never recovers. It’s your basic predictable romcom with the added on cheesy cliches. It actually works pretty well in the first half, the acting is good and main leads have excellent chemistry together. The drama suffers from choppy editing and terrible writing in the later half. It seemed like sometimes the writers wanted to drag on scenarios over and over again or then completely left out storylines they were building up since the beginning (*cough* the whole brother situation) Nonetheless it’s still a watchable drama. I will add in the characters played by Zhang Xue Ying and Dylan Kuo are one of my favorite brother and sisterly duo performances.

Did Jin lose any significant battles or commanders during their conquest of Wu? Was anyone in Wu (including Jing province and Jiao province as well as the heartland) able to put up any kind of resistance whatsoever?

Jin's invasion was almost entirely successful. In most cases where a large battle loomed, Wu's soldiers simply surrendered instead.

Zhang Ti and Zhuge Jing rather famously won a victory at Yanghe, capturing one of Wang Hun's subordinates and many soldiers. However, the captives revolted after Zhang Ti's general Shen Ying was defeated by Jin's Zhou Jun, Jiang Ban, and Xue Sheng. Zhang Ti's army was destroyed, and he died in the fighting. Basically only Zhuge Jing made it out.

Also of note, the head of Jianping (on the border of Jing and Yi) Wu Yan held out against Jin during the entirety of the invasion, only surrendering after Sun Hao himself submitted. He went on to have a good career in Jin, while Zhuge Jing always refused to serve the regime that killed his father (even though his father had it coming).

Master Gong Xue - New Year's JZEU Series (10)

Continuing on in this Junzhe Extended Universe series, we have Zhang Zhehan as his character Wei Ying from Banshu Legend.

The show is also known as The Legend of Ban Shu. I haven't watched this show under either name (it has joined the massive list of my back catalog to get through!) but Zhehan looks very proper and beautiful.

This is the fig maker's inspiration picture - lovely.

Here's a very tiny and a bit blurry full length picture of the inspiration costume. You can see it is very ornate.

For such an intensely serious still picture, this Wei Ying is happy and brimming with mischief! He's all smiles here.

He's so happy he's tilting backwards a bit! On a fig stand he goes. I usually can balance a lot of figs enough for just one picture by propping them up against my background paper, but that's never stable enough to rotate them around for pictures.

You can see how the weight of his head is pulling him backwards a bit here.

There's a lot of good detail on this figure, including the gold patterns on the shoulders here, as well as the rope around the hat and headdress. That headdress is not coming loose for anything!

I just noticed how one sleeve is shorter and a little more forward than the other, because his arms are slightly different positions. That's a cool little touch!

I'll admit I'm kind of fascinated by this hat / hairpin / headdress combo. I keep scrolling up to look at the inspiration pic as to how it's all architected.

Here he is holding a scroll in his hand. You can see a bit of the high toe style of the shoes here.

I am not sure what the thing is he's holding in his hand. Maybe a pouch?

And here we are back around again, this time with him perched on a fig stand. You can really see all the delicate details here of his costume, along with the scroll.

Hmm, it looks a little too stiff to be a money pouch or something. I'd say maybe ...it's a tiny hand drum or something?

He, like many of our multi-layered figures in guzhuang, ancient style costumes, is wearing pants and boots under his flowing robes.

It really does look like a hand drum to me from this angle, but why would he be holding a hand drum, of all things? I'm at a loss.

I know I say it every time, but this fig maker really has the best boxes. I also really appreciate she puts the inspiration on the box cards every time!
