I have been consuming Zack Lives AUs and would like to offer the headcannon: Zack keeps a habit of taking initiative for transporting Cloud to places even after Cloud wakes up. Usually grabbing and leading Cloud places, but sometimes ends up with Zack full on hoisting Cloud over his shoulder and starts walking.

The guilt and pain in Sephiroth’s eyes, watching Zack walk into Lazard’s office for the final time as a Second Class. Knowing after this, after he puts on that new uniform, he is stepping foot into a dream he knows the boy is going to regret. He knows that there is no glory in being a First Class anymore—that the title is weightless, hollow, and that is how Zack is going to feel upon being promoted. He knows the innocence is now gone; he knows Zack is now reaching a new chapter that’s only gonna result in more death, more trauma.

He knows that, as First Class himself, never given the choice, Zack’s gonna wish he never was one.

*grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you* zack was not smitten with sephiroth in nibelheim like it was portrayed in cloud's memory. he had a girlfriend who he adored and his relationship with sephiroth was pretty chill and normal as of crisis core. he wasn't bouncing around trying to impress his ex-mentor's traumatized friend who he already knew. CLOUD WAS SMITTEN WITH SEPHIROTH. little trooper cloud was over the fucking moon when general sephiroth said "good job" to him. he was OBSESSED.
