(I'm aware the quote is down incorrect, this was off memory lol. The real quote is:

BOOK RECOMMENDATION!!!
Okay so I recently read a book called Absent by Katie Williams and holy crap that shit was good. I cried for hours last night after I finished it. Also, I was not expecting that plot twist. So if anyone is looking for a book to read, one filled with emotion, supernatural, ghosts, loss, love, betrayal, and mystery this is the book for you. When I tell you I could not stop reading this. I. Could. Not. Stop. It had me in its grips since my eyes landed on the first word. I prefer audiobooks normally and never read ebooks because my phone screen is small and I have the attention span of a five year old. But when I saw this on my reading app, I tell you I could not stop reading it. This may be the first E-Book I've read that wasnt a short story or graphic novel. I read it in no less than three days, the some of fasted I've ever read a big chapter book (again, attention span of a five year old even with good books). I cannot reccomend this enough, please, if you want a book to read that will make you cry. Read this book!!!
#book reccomendation#e book#books#i love this book#favourite books#heartbreaking#i have no words#emotional rollercoaster#mystery#love this#romance#supernatural#ghost#afterlife#high school#inhabitation#katie williams#Absent#Absent by Katie Williams#You must read this book#One of the best books I've ever read#You will love this book#The plot twist though!!#I was not expecting that#i cried for hours

I love libraries.
I'm browsing the WWI shelves (as you do) and notice a very old book about the war. I glance at the first pages that talk about how one day the war will be over and we'll look at this place and not see any signs of the battlefield.
Then it hits me. And I check the publishing date.
This book was printed before the war's end. Not written. Printed. The physical object was created in 1918, while the war in question was raging and the end was as yet uncertain.
Now I'm standing on the other side of the apocalypse, with this physical link to that era in my hands. I'm living proof that the war did end and life did go on and we can all look at the end of the world as a long-ago memory.
Reading old books is cool enough, connecting our minds and hearts through the ideas of people who lived long ago, but there's something extra profound about holding a copy of the book that comes from the time that it was written. It's a physical link between the past and the present connecting me to those long-ago people. A piece of the past come into the future that gives me the chance to almost take the hand of some long-ago reader, to hold something they could have held, connecting not just mentally but physically to their era, a moment of connection across more than a century.
Excuse me while I go weep.
#books#history is awesome#of course i checked it out#i had no real intent to read wwi non-fic but i couldn't just leave my new friend there it'd be lonely#i want to break out in tears every time i look at it#it's so stupid but sometimes something stupid just kicks you straight in the heart and you just gotta deal#it's old front line by john masefield#i know nothing about it except thinking the author's name sounded vaguely familiar#also the interior design is fantastic#these old books know how to use white space and make something super readable#if you must know i was in the wwi section because i was at the history museum the other day#and saw a local author had a book of wwi letters#thought i'd see if the library had it#looked at the selection of non-fic surrounding it and thought of the wwi persuasion#saw many books that could be useful#and thought 'oh no this looks like fun'#it won't go anywhere i know i won't be able to focus long enough to do real research#but darn if it wasn't an appealing little daydream

Y'ALL
I just saw a tiktok where someone was like "uhm the new percy jackson show is just not it, the movies fit the vibes better" and while that is one of the wildest takes I've ever heard someone commented
"What vibes are you missing hun, whiteness and not being able to find percy sexy because he is actually 12 this time?"
I would not show my face in public again if I got eaten up like that in my own comment section
#percy jackson#percy jackon and the olympians#how you gonna say the movies are better#you must have not read the books bby girl#mint talks

Disgustingly messy and crusty sketch dump but I couldn't get my own terrible theory out of my head and ended up making a bunch of sketches about it. Also at the end a bonus dickbats and Damian doodle bc I was reading an issue of their Batman and Robin run (IDs in Alt)
#dc comics#dc#batfamily#batman#damian wayne#stephanie brown#tim drake#dick grayson#cassandra cain#duke thomas#anyway. zdarsky run sure is something huh?#its still so funny to me that half of 148 was leaked a few days before like someone has it OUT for that book over at bleeding cool ig#i don't necessarily think this theory will come true I'm just imagining how stupid it would be if it did#I'm not super happy with the dialogue in the cass+duke+dick comic but i felt my og dialogue might've read too fanon#mainly just bc cass' last sentence was originally shorter/just ellipses and duke said smthin like ''wait? villain arc?''#which you could easily find in wayne family adventures. even tho it would've been appropriate for this situation 😭#now the dialogue just sounds kind of generic (esp cass') and it's BOTHERING ME AUGHH. this is the comic book fandom panopticon /j#anyway Bruce is in the retirement home in this scenario /j#me n my friends were talking over discord and came up w the cursed scenario that jason is tims robin in this (apart of the 'redemption' arc#-that he's been nail gunned with in this run. god this run is so weird when it comes to jason. like it doesn't outright dislike him-#-like it clearly does damian and (more obviously) cass steph and duke) but the tone of everything w jason is still bizarre#god. anyway yeah i didn't draw him but please picture grown man tank Jason in the robin undies (ala tt 03 but dare i say better)#also the dick being silly sketch was bc the issue i was reading had damian refer to dick as 'jolly'#specifically like ''unreasonably jolly'' or something like that (god i love when ppl find dicks cheerfulness deeply unsettling hehehe)#and i thought it was so funny. bc damian met dick when we has going through his ''bruce is dead'' depression-#-and STILL thought that dick was extremely unserious. he sees happy dick and is like ''what is wrong w you. genuinely''#but at the same time he loves it#i need to stop reading their batman and robin run so scatteredly (or i can just reread nightwing must die...always a possibility)#anyway yeah 👍 bad sketches be upon you#mine

Thinking about vampires, death, life, and the space they occupy in between
#to be or not to be. that is the question#ty adam for being my model for dramatic vampire moment#musings on the thinkings about:#when to live you are required to hurt others. you must repeatedly ask yourself what the value of your life is#To sleep... perchance to dream...#ah. THERES THE RUB.#ok I actually couldnt come up with too many thoughts. I had a lot more while I was drawing this but I guess I put them in the painting LOL#reading that soliloquy and being like damn this is just like vampires#the reality of course is that the soliloquy is a debate over suicide and ultimately making the choice to live#even if just out of fear of the unknown#and vampires are about dying and then in undeath choosing to continue to live#despite the fear of eternity and loneliness and hurting others#theyre not the same. but like let me thiiink come onnnn I'm allowed to thiiink and have incomplete thoughts#I would have to write like a proper essay about this to organize my thoughts. this is the tags on a tumblr post.#anyways finished episode 79#working on patreon stickers for this month (and next month soon)#and working on book 4. taking a pause from episodes cause I've got 3 weeks of buffer now... UGH#I'm so mad that they changed it. it would have been 5 weeks before but it's fine it's whatever#anyways yeah taking a break from episodes to make my book now!#its good stuff.#and this painting is good stuff#banger after banger from me tbh#this was a little relaxing giving myself a couple hours to muse#it's necessary for my health and I always forget that til I do a painting...#I loved doing the little landscape in the background too I should do that more! I love how plants are just like whatever shape you want#like you can make up any plant you want and not only does that plant PROBABLY exist somewhere#a weirder plant exists somewhere too. so. literally whatever you want#ok bye again for a few days while I get back to work

i'm kind of late to this but i just finished reading the scholomance trilogy by naomi novik and i feel like it is such an underrated urban fantasy?? taking the chosen one trope and turning it on its head with a fmc who has been prophesied to bring death and destruction, who is imbued with terrible power, but cannot even properly use said power to solve any of her obstacles because it would obliterate them and her soul. it takes a tired trope and the idea of an 'overpowered mary sue' and throws it back in your face by showing how all the power and destiny in the world is useless against a system filled with corruption that has burdened you with an easy way out (evil/destructive magic) that you can't take so now you have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to do simple, constructive spells instead of flicking your wrist and being done with it.
#the scholomance#naomi novik#galadriel higgins#orion lake#bookblr#urban fantasy#a deadly education#the last graduate#ya fantasy#the golden enclave#ya fiction#it has a diverse cast#queerness just effortlessly woven in#and the entire thing is so seamlessly crafted with a narrative on what real change looks like#how to really rid your environment of corruption and change society for the better you have to do the gritty work#you have to be willing to do the unpleasant hard grueling organization and working with people / meeting them where they're at#you might not even get to see or do the pretty parts#but its still worth doing the distatesful shit#doing the compromising and giving space for people to learn and make up for mistakes#so that future generations can do better#and have the childhood u didn't#no spoilers in case by some miracle i convince another soul to read this but like#she legit fucking says it in the book#it's not the work she wants to do in the end. not what she envisioned. but she does what she must to make sure other kids don't suffer#makes me think of climate activism so much#we might not get to have the pretty wonderful utopia but we have to be willing to do the shitty stuff it takes to make that future possible

living for alhaitham's inherent curiosity about kaveh being the catalyst for an odd textual mystery...??
he already read the Very Bad novel in the house of daena before kaveh got hold of it? but then seeing it in their study and knowing kaveh must have checked it out, he... opened it anyway despite already knowing the contents?? 1) because he knew kaveh wouldn't mind, and 2) because he was curious what kaveh thought about it?? considering that he knows kaveh makes annotations in books??
he saw kaveh circle the killer's name in permanent ink, effectively spoiling the novel, no matter how terrible, and joined in by circling a name to create a red herring, but also because he thought circling names was funny <3
he put the book in the same place in the study and didn't say anything to kaveh when kaveh went to return it, and kaveh went about believing alhaitham knew nothing about it, until the quest comes full circle and kaveh returns to alhaitham to tell him the news, only to find out that he and alhaitham were jointly the instigators for the conspiracy.
the quest is THEIR fault!! but.. the conspiracy wouldn't have happened if alhaitham hadn't made the second circle,, so… if he hadn't been curious about something that occupied kaveh's time..., that’s so !!??
#haikaveh#kavetham#alhaitham#kaveh#an odd textual mystery#im absolutely sick and disgusted by this behaviour#chronologically alhaitham must have read the book before kaveh found it?? so he saw kaveh reading it and wanted to see if kaveh had#annotated it? if he already read it and knew it sucked then why...#alhaitham your mind.. tighnari is so correct you really are too much i dont care about permanent ink kaveh is innocent#kaveh doesnt even question alhaitham looking through the book in the study because its their shared space like its only NATURAL alhaitham#would look through it??? okay i take it back im sick of both of them#we get it youre domestic and now youre inflicting that on the whole of sumeru city!!!

Fun fact: Pretty much every name* mentioned in Mr. Swales' tombstone tirade of August 1 was apparently an actual person interred in Whitby cemetery at the time of Bram Stoker's research trip, as seen in his careful list of notes.
Is the Whitby arc RPF? Discuss.
*including Mr. Swales himself, via centenarian Ann Swales, but fortunately not including (as best I could tell) George Canon of the elaborate suicide story, because good lord could you imagine
#Dracula#dracula daily#really and truly: what must it have been like reading this book if you lived in Whitby in 1897

reading about english poet robert graves and the crazy sex cult polycule built around him and his wife sexually worshipping his american jewish mistress laura riding as a pseudo-religion and how he threatened to kill their fourth (some irish guy) when he tried to run away. and their fourth came back but would only fuck graves' wife so laura riding tried to kill herself by jumping out a window and graves jumped out after her (???) and then they ran away to spain together for a decade. also i think it's kind of funny that he was like exclusively gay until he served in world war 1 and got shell shock and he found out his boyfriend was cheating on him when said boyfriend got arrested for trying to fuck a canadian soldier on the western front and had a mental breakdown, then postwar started sleeping with masculine women and became obsessed with them and there's no mention of him sleeping with men again. all of that stuff reads as an entertaining level of psychosexual dysfunction until the part where he cheated on his 2nd wife with a 17 yr old girl when he was in his 50s as which point his 'sexuality' wikipedia subheading stops being intriguingly insane and just becomes gross. what the hell did i just read
#ive been reading his book the white goddess which i have mixed feelings on but thats how i ended up here#you ever read a book and think this guy must be into some crazy shit#and you know what i was right

i just finished dark heir
#me foaming at the mouth during the last chapters: HE IS! FUCKING! SAVING YOU!#i am huddled around will kempen hissing like a mama cat none of these fuckers are allowed to look at him#dark rise#okay but like. cyrian at literally every moment in the book you see will anticipating things and making connections#that you never make. doing things like a leader & being fucking smart and strategic. and your dumb ass really thought.#hm. must mean i shouldnt listen to him about the magic staff that can literally stop the end of the world. must be evil.#me: [screams into the abyss]#i know i cant expect characters to react like readers and they DID all react like i knew they would but god it was so infuriating!!!!!#and heart breaking! god!!!! god!!!!! will reliving his mother's initial betrayal over and over and OVER again#and thinking about all the little moments we get where the novel tells us: if these 'evil' characters had just been accepted#instead of tossed aside maybe they wouldnt have fallen. if they had been protected instead of killed maybe they would have#become protectors instead of killers. maybe if will's mom hadn't tried to butcher him for the sin of his own birth#he wouldn't have been so scared to tell people he lied to them.#anyway im not normal about will kempen and if book 3 doesnt give me his friends fucking accepting him i'll kill someone#me looking directly at visander: i dont care how charming you are i'll murder your ass about it#i read this book in like 5 hrs im being very normal about it

Such a mad marriage never was before.
The Taming of The Shrew (Act III, Scene II) by William Shakespeare | The Heart Killers, Episodes 1 & 6
#the heart killers#the taming of the shrew#thk x ttots#web weaving#mine#tusersilence#tuserlogan#userbon#userrlaura#tuseryoo#khaotunq#tuserrowan#useragatha#tuserjovana#the fact that it is on the back of othello is particularly insane to me.#granted ive yet to actually read othello but still#cause like yes part of the plot revolves around othello and desdemona's relationship#but the main things you hear about othello are the racism at the center of the story and iago's betrayal of othello#which is interesting for thk mind you! but such a mad marriage is such an odd quote to use#especially because IT IS NOT FROM OTHELLO! IT IS FROM TAMING!!#it makes me think that they must have made or put covers on the two shakespeare books theyve used so far#bc i couldnt for the life of me find the version of taming they used in ep1#and i do not understand why anyone would but that quote on the back of othello??
