Children in writing: my personal pet peeves

Okay, some might know that I work as an elementary school aid, done it on and off since I was 19, so I have the credits lol. Last december I even got my trade school papers for it. I preface this this way bwcause I have worked with shitton of kids, and will in a future. My background also means that I am very quick to notice when people don't interact with kids that much.

Even the savant syndrome kid is still a kid

One thing that annoys the hell out of me is when the 8 year old smart kid character acts like a 32 year old with all the emotional cababilities it entails. Yes, some kids have an higher intelligence, emotional or otherwise, but in the core of them, they are a kid. They get temper tantrums, they are in awe of new discoveries, they love to play in their own way.

For example, the class I'm in now, we have a kid I will call James. James is raised by his grandparents and it shows in everything he does. He is an old soul, always getting striaght As and almost helping the adults in conflicts. James also giggles as I race with him during recess, he sulks like a kid after not getting what he wanted and laughs really hard at fart jokes. He is 8 even if he has an emotional intelligence of an older kid.

Children are sponges, in bad and good

Speaking of James, he is a great example of children being sponges. This 8 year old, he uses terms like "gosh darn it" or "welp, it is what it is", terms I could see his farmer grandpa using. When he is stressed, he poses like a 73 year old looking at a broken tracktor. You can see his grandpa in him clearly.

I want to say it because a lot of people only write like "I am bad because my dad was bad" characters, even though it isn't that simple moat of the time, and children being sponges could be used in so many different ways, and not just bad.

Kids knowing big words doesn't always mean they are smart

This adds into the "kids are sponges" segment. Lot of kids, especially now, pick up different words, some very difficult, but they themselves don't know what they mean. Just today I had to explain what a dictator meant to a kid talking about North Korea. (That is an other thing too I like to add: kids try to explain with their own understandkng of the world what things they don't understand are)

Children's are adults in progress

Thus is a thing that peeves me the most of all, because a lot of people think children are thing entire different entity than adults. I like to explain it in videogame logic, like as a kid you are doing the first levels and progressing trough. You still the same character at the core of it, you just leveled up and got new tricks up your sleeve. Children are humans, they aren't that difficult to comprehend.

kids with disabilities have presonalities

Omg I am such a passionate person towards this, especially because I am specialized in special ed. It annoys me in no end when a special ed kid's presonality is "ehh they are disabled?". Every single special ed kid I have been with have different personalities and likes and dislikes, if they can't show it to you themselves. I don't think I have met two disabled kids (nor adults) with same personalities, even if they have exact same disability.

In the class I am in now, James's best friend is this kid named Jackie. I don't know Jackie's diagnosis but she can't walk straight, and uses multiple walking aids when her legs hurt too bad. She can't talk very well, struggling with her speak. Still, those things weren't the first thing I'd use to describe her. I'd describe her as a dramaqueen, always ready to complain about something, i'd describe her as a sporty, always running after her friends, even if she is much slower than others. I'd describe her as kindhearted, and clingy as she is always ready for a hug. Her disability is n intergal part of her but not everything.

I could complain about this all day. I have worked with kids and adults with disabilities and they have all been do different from each other (like able bodied people). Maybe another post lol.

Believing that you’re doing the right thing, when in fact you’re doing the wrong thing - a recurring theme in Stranger Things s4

First example that may come to your mind is Jason or Vecna/Henry/001. Jason believed he was doing the right thing by trying to catch Eddie, ”the murderer”, but due to the lack of information, that was a wrong thing to do. Vecna/Henry/001 believed he was doing the right thing when trying to create a different world, but the things he did while trying to do that were horribly wrong.

But that’s not it. Doing something you think is right, but is actually wrong, is something that everyone does in this season. I haven’t listed all examples but here’s a few:

The army

The army believes they are doing the right thing by catching Eleven, who they believe is behind the killings. But that’s a wrong thing to do, because El is actually the one cabable to help.

The parents and Erica

The parents think they are doing the right thing by trying to keep the kids inside even tho the kids need to be helping the older teens. And Erica thinks she’s doing the right thing by calling their ”bullshit” in front of the parents and police.

Jonathan

Jonathan thinks it’s the right thing to do to not go to college and stay with his family. But it’s just harming him and his relationship with Nancy.

Young Eleven

Young Eleven believes it’s the right thing to do to try and help Peter/001 escape too. But the consequences were horrible.

Max

Max thought it was a right thing to do to become a bait. And also to try and attack Vecna even tho she should have stayed hidden and let El handle the situation.

Lucas

Lucas that it was the right thing to do to try and become popular. But he would have been better off with his real friends.

The Hawkins crew and Russia crew

They thought it was a good idea to try and harm Vecna with fire and swords and shots, when actually that robbed Eleven a chance to finish him off for good. (Ofc we don’t know for sure she could have but no she didn’t even get the chance because the Vecna world just collapsed around her)

Will thought it was the right thing to do to lie about the painting and his feelings when in fact… oh well…

When you first met the Los Vaqueros they were immediately delighted by your presence.Alejandro was the first one to call him Angel and sooner than later it became his official unofficial code name.Rudy can remember the way M/n smiled at them when they first met.A smile in which he believed only a Angel could have.

When König had first arrived he was quite nervous.Sure he’s 6’10 and was the tallest guy but he seemed awfully shy and nervous to speak.After a few days of him being at the base,one day during training he had grazed his arm.So of course he’d went to go see a medic.Angel being the specific medic he was going to see.König enjoyed the males prescesnce especially since he was so caring and gentle,it seemed unrealistic for a guy.

“Hey Angel~!”König said happily as he walked towards the medic who already had a smile on his voice before the Austrian walked in.

Angel was called back into the field.It had everybody on edge since the Medic hadn’t been on the field in a couple years.Price was skeptical about letting Angel come since he didn’t want want the male to get hurt but with the mission they were going on he was needed,many soilders were bound to get hurt and Angel was a quick man on his feet.On the following days M/n was training just to make sure he was still cabable if doing what he was best at.The male was good with snipers and he could’ve been a sniper if he really wanted but he’d rather stick with his current position.

Today was the day of the mission and everyone besides Angel came up to an agreement.They were all gonna do their best to protect the h/c haired male even though they had new clue what the man was still capable of.Now exiting the vehicle M/n was paired up with Gaz to take down the guards blocking the front of the building.When Price was giving orders M/n didn’t wanna waste time so he quickly sniped both of the in the head.

“Geez doc,ya didn’t even let Price finish?”Gaz exasperated as Angel huffed.

“Well we gotta get this down as soon as possible.Can’t afford to do anything last minute ey?”Angel asked as Gaz shrugged his shoulders as they made their way to the buildings entrance and walked inside.

“Angel,Gaz How copy?”König’s voice could be heard on the other end of the radio.

“All is well on our end,what about you and the others?”Angel spoke out as Gaz listened into the conversation as he shot down a few spotted enemies.

“Start headin towards the fifth floor we’ll meet up there.”Ghost spoke out in his usual rough tone of voice.Gaz and M/n began making there way up the stairs having to take down a few enemy soilders down.

“They should be up here.”Gaz murmured as Angel held his gun up prepared to shoot.

Gaz slowly opened the door just to be lucky enough to see the rest of 141 and the Los Vaqueros.

“Angel I’m glad to see you hermano-!”Alejandro was cut off by the click of several guns.They all turned around and they were surrounded

“Don’t fucking move!”One of them spoke out as König grabbed Angel’s arm in attempts of pulling him back to which Angel yanked his arm back.

“Angel du musst zurückbleiben!”König whispered yelled into Angels ear to which he responded.

“I can handle myself König.”Angel spoke out while slowly dispersing himself away from the huddle.

“Hand us the files and we’ll let you go.”A deep voice spoke out while aiming his gun at Rudy’s chest.

“Nae pumpin' happening assholes!”Soap yelled out defensively as one of them began moving closer and putting a gun to Alejandro’s skull.

“You’re going to regret doing this estúpido!”Alejandro yelled out as the man pressed his gun into Alejandro’s head harder which made him grunt.The leader was about to speak again until a muffled scream was heard gaining everyone’s attention.Price looked around and noticed that Angel was nowhere to be seen.

“Wait where’d Angel go?!”Price yelled out which made the rest realize the h/c haired male wasn’t with them.Suddenly a thud was heard and one of the enemies saw his teammates head rolling towards him.

“What the fuc-“The man was cut off by a knife lodging in to his skull.

“Stand your ground stay alert!”The leader yelled out only for another soilder to get shot in the skull.

“What the hell?”Gaz whispered as he saw something run across the room.He noticed the figure put two fingers up which Gaz remembered was a signal that Angel had taught him.Peace sign meant get ready in Angels code of silence,so Gaz grabbed his gun.At that moment M/n shot another soilder in the head and Gaz did the same.Angel rushed at another guy and slit his throat and used his now limp body as a shield.Ghost punched another one,knocking him to the ground and Soap tackled another one of the others to the ground and began punching him senseless.

König broke one of the men’s spins over his leg killing him instantly before throwing his knife in another’s skull.Alejandro was punching the guy who held the gun to his skull while Rudy stabbed one of them repeatedly.Gaz was about to turn around but the leader grabbed him and held a knife to his throat.

“STOP NOW!”He yelled out gaining everyone’s attention.“Drop your damn weapons.”He spoke out while pressing his knife onto Gaz’s throat making the Brit groan.They all lower their weapons now worrying for Gaz’s wellbeing.

“Just give me the damn files and I’ll let him go!”He yelled out as Price glared heavily at him.Nobody said anything and it seemed to have made the leader angrier.

“Ok..,y’all asked for th-AHH!”The male yelled out as Angel appeared from behind him biting into his neck.The man cried out as he pulled a chunk of skin off the males throat while also ripping out his vocal cords.The look the e/c eyed male gave him was nothing but cold as he ripped the mand vocal cords out his throat.Angel got down and began strangling the male with his vocal cords and the others could only watch as the man’s body went limp against his own appendage.141 and Los Vaqueros watched the male stand up before looking them all in the eye.

“What?I couldn’t just stand there he was gonna kill Gaz.”Angel spoke out as König jumped happily in place.

“No no it’s just the uh-we ain’t expect that out of ya considering you haven’t been on the field in a while.”Price spoke out as everybody made noises of agreement.

“Seems that the Angel has turned to the Archangel.”Soap spoke out jokingly as Angel chuckled.

“Yeah I think that’d have to be my new name on the field.”Angel spoke out as they began to exit the building.

I have a theory that in all routes, Vlad has and is in love with MC. All different routes with other characters are just different timelines that Vlad has tried to see where is the most perfect to be, which is the real timeline. Reason why we never see in routes MC turned as a vampire, is because in eternal timeline MC is meant to be with Vlad and somehow ends up to be turned to actual pureblood vampire. As in other information that you can see from the game is that Comte is mentioned to be pureblood vampire when again Vlad is Greater Vampire, which in my mind could be that he is actually cabable to turn others to pure blooded vampires, if he so would wish.

Truthfully, he looked for it. Had it cleaned and repaired. The gems were all perfect cut and clarity. They mirrored your eyes. The fact that his mother would have liked you to have it was true. She'd always wanted a daughter. And she'd always spoken of you fondly when he was a boy. That you were a sweet girl.

Three Techniques Sukuna hasn't used yet

Finally we got the fire and the arrow(?) back, which makes this the third time that Sukuna uses his mysterious technique after Jogo and Makora. The good guys should've known about the fire though because Yuji gains Sukuna's memories after he gets back control of his body. He should've told everyone about this especially after he messed up protecting Megumi from Sukuna even though he knew about his future plans with him.

(Interestingly, Megumi has live-coverage of everything that Sukuna does unlike Yuji. That's probably because an awake Yuji would've immediate control over his body again. He can't be contained like Megumi.)

There are still (at least) 3 techniques though that Sukuna could use in the current fight. Cursed Technique Reversal, Hollow Technique and Maximum Technique.

Cursed Technique Reversal

For using CTR you need to meet two conditions. 1) being able to perform RCT to produce positive energy and 2) being able to channel that PE into your cursed technique to power it. (Sukuna can already channel his PE into others like Megumi.)

When Gojo uses it, he creates Red, the reversal of Blue, and when Kenjaku uses it he creates Gravity, the reversal of Anti-Gravity System. No other sorcerer than those two have been shown to be able to use CTR.

For Sukuna I can see him picking up his left hand that Maki cut off to attach it back to his arm: the reversal of his "cutting". "Glueing" so to speak. That would probably be easier for him right now than regrowing that hand.

Hollow Technique

Gojo has been the only sorcerer shown to us cabable of using the Hollow Technique, in his case Purple. For this he activates his technique with both PE and CE at the same time to combine Red and Blue. The push and pull abilities of Red and Blue create a virtual mass that destroys everything in its path.

The condition to use the Hollow Technique is concurrent usage of cursed and positive energy plus the ability to activate your technique with both at the same time.

Of note is that Gojo activated his last Purple one step at a time but that was only possible because Blue and Red can exist on their own for a certain period of time. Sukuna's Cleave and Dismantle are immediate attacks and can't do that.

Can Sukuna use HT though? Most likely because he can use PE and CE at the same time as he's been doing for a while now especially after being stabbed by Maki and her Split Soul Katana. But how would that look with his cutting and potential glueing? I have no idea. Maybe it would be sth like a creating impenetrable lines in the air like Dhruv's CT.

Maximum Technique

Uzumaki is the first technique that comes to mind here but Eso's Wing King and Jogo's Meteor are also among them. A MT is beside the Domain Expansion the ultimate expression of a cursed technique and jujutsu. Sukuna, who primes himself on the study of jujutsu, should be able to use this.

Now because MT encompasses and maxifies all aspects of a CT, it's logical why we haven't seen this until now. Most popular theory on Sukuna's fire is that it's part of his kitchen arsenal, in other words, we haven't seen his entire cursed technique yet or at least understood it in it's entire. After we're shown that, Sukuna's Maximum Technique becomes a reasonable concern that the heroes have to deal with.

The reason why Envy and Nuzi shippers fight so much trying to proof wich is ship will be the end game one is because both of them are being written to be likeable and valid. N's relantioship with V and Uzi is complex, and is probally going to become even more.

I have noticed that Liam is a big fan of love triangles (his previously animated works were obviously going to had this trope) so you can be sure he will write an entire drama with these three before he can even think wich one will be the canon one. Trying to fight to see what will be end game before the end of the series is useless.

We can literally get an scene with an Envy kiss on one episode, but in the next one we can get an scene with N and Uzi passionately saying "i love you" to each other and none of them would be canon until the series finale. You really should not doubt what the creator of these characters is cabable of lmao

Also, saying Envy is a bad ship because theyre currently toxic is stupid, trying to turn Nuzi into an platonic "father x daughter" relantioship to make people feel bad to ship them is even dumber.

Please lets just watch episodes and enjoy the story and the character's relantioships! You guys dont need to make "THIS ONE IS CANON AND THE OTHER ONE IS INVALID" posts everytime we get any romantic/romantic-coded scenes with the main trio.

The first thing she demanded before the explaination was that Yuu should tje curtsy like what Alice did in the movie. At first Yuu wasn't sure, but Riddle kept glaring Daggers at them so they had to 😅

She also asked if Yuu also knows all 870 (lmao I have forgotten if its the right number 😭), to which Yuu replied only 210 (Yuu learns the rules so Riddle won't kick then out of the dorm if they visit). Before the explaination she thought Yuu was j6st a kid with a strange scar on their face. After that she are impressed by Yuu.

She doesn't have anything bad to say about Yuu, if they won't anger her. Spoiler Alert it's unlikely that will happen.

Scar is neutral about humans in general. He doesn't despise them but also isn't a fan of them. Before the explaination he didn't thought highly of Yuu, but he was curious about their face scar.

After the explaination he was surprised on how long Yuu survived ALL of the misfortunes. He now respects Yuu in his way.

As will be with the others Ursula didn't thought much of Yuu so I will exclude it now. Also they are impressed and a little concerned.

Ursula thinks Yuu is an interesting person worth spending time with. She'd love to make a contract woth them but were quikly declined.

Jafar is interested in Yuu espacially their cababilities, since it saved them multiple times.

The evil queen was firstly fixated on Yuu's appearance. It wasn't easy since Yuu was stuck in a tree for a while, but after close obsetvation, she says that Yuu look "presentable". It doesn't soznd much but coming fron the fairest queen it's atleast something.

She thinks that Yuu like the others as interesting and has a little respect towards them

Hades upon seeing this kid was the first (technically second since Malefizent got to know information from Malleus) to be curious on this kid. After hearing what happened he gets a liitle more concerned and is the first to ask as on HOW THE HELL ARE THEY STILL ALIVE.

All in all he likes Yuu

Malefizent as mentioned got to hear from Yuu from Maulleus and she was before meeting Yuu already awed since they are the first human who befriended her great-great-grandson. Upon meeting them she saw why Malleus liked them as a friend.

After the explanation she was also inpressed and concerned.

They already had a bonus since Malleus talked so good about them and now it's even better.

Jesus Christ that took WAY longer then I thought. Some of the opinions are short but more couldn't I tell you I'm sorry 😭

The title is based on the verse from 2 timothy - "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)

so its saying, like: you ARE cabable of parsing and interpreting and wisely handling the truth (bible). and here's the tools to equip you with how. i like that a lot.

its got 3 main sections: what does it say, what does it mean, and what does it matter, each containing a whole bunch of smaller sections (a few pages long) covering lots of good topics.

Its important foundational stuff for everyone, really, and its written in a way that feels really engaging and accessible (in a very conversational tone!!) so YEAH! highly recommend this book c:
