this was a good read
#honestly this is also why i can't stand the ya only crowd. i read SO much fucked up 80s and 90s YA as a kid#like YA can in fact be good (though it's still directed at teens)#but the sanitized versions goodreads adults are demanding aren't really fun for anyone#also i read both ya and adult books as a teen. i think you need to.

The Spell for Unraveling (book 3 of The Buried and the Bound trilogy) has a cover! behold!
i think this is my favorite one yet! i love the stained glass background so much <3 the artist is helen mask, who's done an amazing job on all three covers for this trilogy.
#the buried and the bound#book covers#tbatb#booklr#ya books#illustration#i have not posted this on insta yet it's a tumblr exclusive#well. it's also been on goodreads for a few weeks but shhhh#more info on book 3 to come hopefully soon#if you enjoy this series please consider leaving reviews on amazon and goodreads#recommending it to your friends#requesting it at your library#and pre-ordering once buy links are available (which i'll post here)#those things can help let my publisher know that people are excited about these books#toward the end of a series - unless it's really taken off - it's not uncommon for the publisher to completely give up on promoting it#so word of mouth is the only way it will find new readers

5/5 & 4/5
Okay so Six of Crows was good. It caught me by my throat and I loved it instantly. I loved being back in the Grishaverse and I loved group of ragtag characters.
Leigh’s writing was really good for this duology. And I got attached to some characters more than others (cough Kaz and Matthias cough) and the first book was really fun and great and I loved it.
No spoilers but a while star got knocked off of Crooked Kingdom just because of a certain emotional traumatic moment that made me cry and feel really sad and depressed.
Overall- I really did enjoy this duology and I can see how the author’s writing got better after the original trilogy and how much she grew.
I’m on the fence about King of Scars and Rule of Wolves- I don’t even own them, but I never liked Nikolai or Zoya so I’m not like super excited to read them.

there are a million more palatable books if you're just looking for a queer romance i don't understand why people flock to aftg if they're just going to hate everything else about it
#yes aftg is a romance its also a mafia sports book and all three of those topics are treated with equal importance to neil's life#if you want a flat romance where all the characters have cut and dry morality......... please hit up the goodreads ya section#maybe find a hockey romance#once just once i want to open the aftg tag and not get pissed off

I just finished reading Fourth Wing after picking it up because of all the hype, and because I love dragons, and... I have to say it's the worst book I've read in quite a while lmao. the dragons were its only redeeming quality
#seriously not worth it y'all sorry#not tagging the title bc i don't want to rain on other peoples' parade#it just was notttt my cup of tea at all#if you like a court of thorns and roses you might like fourth wing. personally I hated ACOTAR for a lot of the same reasons#mainly: language and writing style that clashed painfully with the supposed genre#(fantasy characters saying shit like 'Holy. Fucking. Hot' and 'looking respectfully' and 'vibes' is just NOT believable lmao)#plus the characters and plot were very shallow! nothing was fleshed out! nothing made me *care* abt the characters!#the worldbuilding had sooo much potential but nothing was really explored and it felt so slapdash!#idk it just felt like a YA smut/romance remix of ACOTAR/Shadow & Bone/Divergent wearing a fantasy trenchcoat#it did have a lot of potential but i'm sorry to say the author did not manage to pull it off. :/#oh well. at least the dragons were cool as hell#books#anti fourth wing#if you want to read my more coherent review just message me and i'll give you my goodreads info

Still got 4 more books to try and finish this month :/
Baffles me that I used to be able to hit 80-100+ with ease when I was younger.
What happened to that reading drive? That stamina? That hunger for words? Where did it go?
#books#reading wrap up#also according to goodreads my top genres are classics ya and fiction#which is weird bc i read like maybe 5 ya books?? if watership down counts as ya/kids#storygraph has lit fic as my top genre which seems more accurate#goodreads#why is goodreads the spotify of book websites

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 "𝐀 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥'𝐬 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐓𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫" 𝐛𝐲 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐨𝐧
“I’ve already learned my lesson here: when you catch someone lying about a murdered girl, you go ask them why.”
Title A Good Girl's Guide To Murder
Author Holly Jackson
Genre Mystery; Thriller; YA
Pages 433
THIS REVIEW HAS A COUPLE OF SPOILERS, NOTHING TOO SIGNIFICANT.
Hello fellow readers! What I have in my paws today is a review of "A Good Girl's Guide To Murder" by Holly Jackson! This is a YA mystery-thriller with a lot of twists and turns, investigation entry logs, maps, etc, which allow you to get into the whole investigative vibe!
Reading Flow ★★★★★
Writing ★★★★★
Plot ★★★★
Characters ★★★★
Spicy none
“But sometimes remembering isn’t for yourself, sometimes you do it just to make someone else smile. Those lies were allowed.”
Goodreads rating 4.33★ My rating 4.5★
This one had me hooked asf. I went from not wanting to put it down, to reaching the final chapters and not wanting to continue it because I was enjoying myself too much to finish it. 😂
*SPOILER ALERT* I really enjoyed the whole plot and was excited for most of it but I was a little sad and confused with Barney's death. I don't think it was necessary and it actually bummed me out quite a lot.
Aside from that I really was at the edge of my seat at the end of each chapter as the investigation got more and more captivating, I just HAD TO KNOW what happened and so I found it a very easy-to-read book because it flows naturally. It mentions various subjects like mental health, substance use, sexual assault and at some point even racism. It has romance happening in the background but it's never the focus and aside from the characters interactions you don't see much mention of it.
“He kissed her, and she glowed with that feeling. The one with wings. “You bring the rain down on them, Pip.” “I will.”
This book will have a tv show adaptation some time soon! Shooting has already wrapped up yet we don't have a date yet. I'm both excited and scared for this because, well, we know how hard it is to capture a book's magic and expectation, but at least it's not a movie. I think it has more potential if we have several episodes to explore the story.
“women can be just as dangerous as men.”
Anyway, if you made it this far thank you for reading this review! I'll leave you with the synopsis if you'd like to take a look, as well as it's Goodreads link. See you soon! 𓃠

Everyone in Fairview knows the story.
Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town.
But she can't shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer?
Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn't want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger.
