Ghost Town

New York editor Castiel Novak is left the deed to a California mountain ghost town and its silver mine by his great uncle Uriel. Ignoring the worsening weather, he drives up from L.A. into the mountains to check out this unusual inheritance, calling the caretaker of the ghost town, Dean Winchester, on the way and asking him to meet him there. Dean rescues Cas after his car goes off the road in a late-spring snowstorm, and they end up having to take refuge in the roadhouse of the ghost town to ride out the storm. Antagonism turns to attraction as they try to figure out the clues left by Uriel to a treasure hidden in the town while having to sleep together for warmth. Unbeknownst to them, they’re being watched by someone from the town’s past, someone trying to play matchmaker.

I love a good setting, and this fic definitely qualifies. Set in a ghost town that Dean has been slowly restoring, Cas and Dean find themselves at odds and snowed in. Dean wants nothing more than to restore the town to some semblance of its former glory so that it can be used as a retreat for people coping with health issues, but when the owner dies and Cas inherits, all of that gets thrown into uncertainty. But with the help of a surprise treasure hunt and the interference of a mysterious spirit, they may find just what they need.

This one is fun. The clues and treasure hunt make for a compelling puzzle. Plus there is some great tropeyness: it's cold and they're snowed in and there's only one bed. What else can they do but fall for each other?

question abt editor’s note: does Aziraphale know Crowley is queer? he seemed very hesitant in regards to Crowley writing a main queer love story, and ik that’s partly because a genre shift like that ended up being a bunch of extra work for Aziraphale, but i also wonder if there’s a little bit of “oh god i hope this ‘straight’ man doesn’t fuck this up”

i’m rlly enjoying Crowley’s level of obliviousness in this fic and it’s making me think of all sorts of potential theories as to how things look from Aziraphale’s perspective, and if he’s just as oblivious or not. either way i rlly love this fic and i’m excited to see the next chapter (tho dont pressure yourself to write if the words just Aren’t Working!!)

to half answer your question about what aziraphale knows: we finally get a bit of aziraphale POV in chapter 4 :3 so you’ll find out EXACTLY what he’s thinking, and gain some perspective on everything we’ve only seen from crowley’s POV so far

We have had way to many incidents because employees don't look at the employee handbook...

Barbara: works at a library, will hack your company to help you figure out flaws in the system for money on the side

Dick: retired Olympic gymnast, gymnastic teacher

Cass: part time professional wrestler, in a duo with Steph

(Edit edit: it has been pointed out to me that some people just don't like feelings which I didn't consider, so I did take off the therapy part because she wouldn't want to do it, but I still think it would be so interesting to see her volve about it)

Jason: writer (novelist + ao3, he has the range), part time barista at some point

Steph: definitely works part time at a movie theatre, I also picture her being a professional wrestler for some reason, in a duo with Cass

Tim: unclear if he's doing freelance investigation journalism or private detective work but either way he likes figuring stuff out (it's a lot of cheating husbands and he doesn't dislike it)

Duke: escape room owner and designer, the trickiest puzzles in the American continent, and each room has incredible aesthetics and personality even though people complain about how difficult they are.

Before Prismo needed Scarab as an editor, he hardly ever had the energy to attend whatever he was invited to. That be a party or a book signing for his own book.

But once Scarab came into his life, he couldn't afford to be lazy. Scarab would literally drag him out of the house to attend things he was invited to.

At first, the world was shocked. Everyone thought Prismo was a faceless author due to how rare it was for him to even show his face! But slowly, people got used to seeing the tall pink haired man being dragged around by a short angry man anywhere for public events

The RDA creates a new program. Not the ambassador, but something darker. Driven by only greed. To create an army of brainwashed super soldier Na’vi. Captured young, and taken from their clans, the Na'vi are put through rigorous brainwashing and pro- RDA propaganda. Neteyam and y/n were just children when they were taken from their homes. Now tasked to aid the humans take Pandora for themselves. They face their biggest battles yet. Each other.
