Hello! I wanted to thank you for that Setsuna post from before. There was some info I have no access to (due to not having 'guidebooks' and such); and also I loved your headcanons for him. So, yeah, now I an the one who wants to see more of your Setsuna headcanons, and I'd be really happy if you shared your 'more specific ones.'

Aah, thank you so much, aylynn, that means so much coming from you, as I trust you with knowing 00 so well! Hopefully I can share more of the side materials once I get a scanner…

Anyway, I apologize in advance if some of my headcanons are random/silly/I might be overthinking the smallest details, but with Setsuna I feel like every little thing he expresses carry a lot of meaning:

• I mostly really love his connections with his Gundams and how special it is… So I like to imagine that sometimes he retreats to his Gundam's cockpit whenever he needs to relax or clear his head.

Probably my most divisive though specific headcanon I have is that, although he wouldn't know how to word it, and I doubt he did it deliberately, I believe his Gundams have some kind of a "soul", thanks to his love, passion, and ideals - They are the embodiment of it all. This same soul passes over depending on which unit he's piloting, as it's more than the machine,but the whole concept of a bringer of peace.

Though deep down I believe he has a special attachment to Exia. Which can't be helped since she was his first Gundam, and they spent so much time together. The way 00 having Exia's GN Drive was so important for him speaks volumes… Not to mention Repair II's return at the end of S2. He also most likely used Repair III to rescue Saji and Louise in the movie…! (I'm just so sad we never got to see it, but at least motorcycle Setsuna is also pretty cool)

• He seems to genuinely see everyone slightly close to him as a friend. Even though S1 Tieria refused to acknowledge him as a proper Meister, Setsuna still seems to regard him as a comrade. He probably never noticed that Saji found his behavior weird, they were friends that even had pizza together and all!

I feel like he's also the type who remembers every little detail about people around him. In attempts to communicate more, he might accidentaly bring up an embarrassing memory that the other person wanted to forget, oops.

Also, I headcanon that his best friend ends up being Tieria after everything. I can only imagine they grew closer after working together with helping the ELS for years - a sort of strong, unspoken bond. Though the occasional disagreement might be inevitable, but they'd know to understand each other better than anyone.

• He wouldn't admit it out loud, but I'd imagine he feels uncomfortable around more realistic style dolls - probably from the faint memory of seeing one around Krugis in crumbles.

• Oddly, the sunset is probably his favorite time of the day. Even though the sun was setting during that traumatic time in Krugis, that was also when he first saw the 0 Gundam. I believe he's the type of person who gets a bit more sentimental during this specific hour. I also find it nice how he's somewhat often associated with sunset imagery in he show, which might also be a symbolism for duality (how he embraces being a living contradiction) and transition (his whole quest for change, which also includes his innovator awakening).

• His way of showing he cares for someone is to quietly watch over them and protect them - I think this comic that was posted on Gundam.info encapsulates the idea perfectly

• Similarly, I often imagine ELS Setsuna sending flowers to his old comrades homes, without explanation or without even saying it was from him.

• Overthinking but: Maybe baby Soran has always dreamed of having a cool scarf, and it's so nice that he got to have it using the turban.

• I find it an interesting aspect of his personality how he refuses to blame others for anything. He felt responsible even for the incident that took the Dylandy siblings family even though he couldn't have done anything about it. He just accepted the blame before Saji found out about the Thrones through the red Haro. Even in Re:vision his monologue starts with "I'm a sinner. Regardless of being brainwashed, or whatever you call it." he doesn't accept any excuses for the events that have happened around him. So I imagine that, even after coming back from the ELS planet and trying to be more open to the idea that he should pursue his own happiness, he remains the type who will carry the weight of the world on his shoulders forever.

• Though one of his possible alternate jobs is a sportsman, I wonder how long he'd be able to play any sport without casually forgetting the rules just like he forgot he shouldn't use TRANS-AM…

• Though it's obvious he'd like mecha anime, I feel like he'd like shows about traveling, or learning about less known places of the world. I also think he'd like farm games and plant flowers everywhere, sorry. He'd have the time of his life with Animal Crossing.

• I also think he'd enjoy bug hunting in real life… Or catching frogs by a pond. And there's no way he never tried building a sand Gundam on the beach the Meisters seem to spend time at.

• I hope that, at some point, the Meisters got to visit an amusement park together… (Unlikely, but I can dream) Setsuna initially would look like he didn't care for the place, and he'd brush it off if Neil asked if he was looking forward to it. Though then everyone loses sight of him as he wanders around, only reappearig at the end of the day, holding way too many things from the stalls. Neil tries to ask if he enjoyed the day, Setsuna regrets that he expected the bumper cars to be faster, too bad they don't have a TRANS-AM mode. Also he totally felt empathetic for the ghosts in the haunted house and wished he could befriend them.

• Random school AU headcanon: Setsuna would skip classes quite a lot, but it'd be alright since Saji would end up adding his name to all group assignments, even if later complaining to him. He wouldn't be above cheating on tests if it meant scoring enough to pass. Probably would get in trouble more than once for bringing a gunpla to the classroom…

• I also have a silly AU/what if the Azadistan-Krugis War never happened, and Setsuna grew up to be a normal boy without getting involved in armed conflict. I like the idea that he'd be a shepherd and get oddly attached to one black sheep he took care of. Though eventually he'd grow dissatisfied with his religion all the same, even without direct war he can't stand people who use it for their own gain, he has always been deeply empathetic (canon Setsuna even getting worried for the other kids at KPSA for one) so he'd still feel bothered knowing war is happening anywhere in the world. So he ends up rebeling against his village and wandering the world with his favorite sheep.

• Silly scenario: Neil shows Setsuna memes because he thinks that's what teenager boys find funny. Setsuna doesn't react at all, which honestly Neil was expecting from the beginning, but it was worth a try. Years later Setsuna shows the same to Lyle, unaware of how dated they are, he just remembers them dearly. Lyle isn't amused.

• It's pretty much stablished that Setsuna only invaded Marina's room because he wanted to hear her voice, he wasn't really expecting her to give him an answer, but hearing her calmed him down as her voice felt so familiar to him… I wonder if his mother told him bedtime stories or something and that's why hearing her talk would have such an effect, even if he doesn't remember them anymore.

• He's the type who doesn't do anything special for his birthday and still struggles with the idea that he deserves to celebrate the day that he was born. If only I could tell him that he was born on Gundam day, he'd be so happy…

also thought abt tucker having an arc where he doubts his capabilities as a meister preferring to be a weapon like danny mirroring how he is at the start of s1 in what you want but ultimately realizing there is value in him being meister

meanwhile danny and valerie have their standard learning to work together arc and how to have their souls be synchronized

valerie coming to understand that her duty as a meister doesn't mean she gets to call all the shots bc she's weilding her partner and danny has to trust his partner's judgment

A solid 13 years after it aired, I finally watched Gundam 00. 

Favorite character: Tieriaaa! 🥺

Which came as a surprise to me considering how I wasn’t really a fan of him for a good 2/3rds of season 1-- he was such a rude, obstinate, holier-than-thou person back then ahahahahaha.  And then he teamed up with Setsuna against the Thrones, and then Lockon called him human when he messed up, and then he found someone he wanted to protect, and then, and then, and then--

I read a meta piece somewhere saying that Tieria’s the closest that comes to taking on the “older brother”-ish role in season 2, and I cannot express how much I agree.  I loved how comfortable he seemed at the bridge, taking on the occasional helmsman/gunner duty when he’s not gundam meister-ing.  His relationship with Mileina was adorable. (The blanket scene! And he even had a blanket for Saji, too!)  The growth of his camaraderie and friendship with Setsuna was wonderful to watch.  The backstory that he was one of the key people in rebuilding CB post-S1 made so much sense to me and tickled me pink. (Did he really design those uniforms? That is so cute!)  And I loved how he continued to keep Lockon/Neil in his thoughts and in his heart.

OTP: Tieria + Lockon/Neil.  “Best ship that never sailed”, indeed.

BrOTP: I mentioned Tieria-Setsuna already, but I also enjoyed what we saw of Tieria-Sumeragi-- it’s mostly professional, but there’s a lot of trust and respect and genuine fondess there, I thought. 

Other thoughts: Tieria has the best, craziest gundams in this series, hands down.  I mean, his first gundam is a chunky gundam that has a feminine gundam inside it that can control other gundams, and then his second gundam is a big gundam fused with a tiny gundam that has a gundam face for a body, and then his third gundam is apparently made of scrap gundams that he put together and that somehow managed to work. Amazing, Tieria, 10/10 truly best meister.

I don't remember liking Lockon during the first two times I watched 00 as much as I do now, maybe that's because I'm his age now so I get it this time or something. I keep thinking about writing a post about him and keep Not Doing It, so here goes a Neil Dylandy appreciation post, I might be biased and I think it's completely justified.

Neil is objectively the most competent among the S1 Gundam meisters. He's the eldest, the most level-headed and just overall normal, chill and supportive guy for a bunch of crazy people, so naturally he was made a de facto leader of their quartet. Obviously none of them listen to him at first, but he's Trying and it's both impressive and funny as hell because there are too many personalities going on, no Hallelujah pun intended. Neil's trying to get Setsuna to open up a bit, he's trying to support Allelujah when he's struggling and overworking himself, and he's the one to openly challenge Tieria's views on multiple occasions while also being perseptive enough to be supportive of him and his fragile mental state, despite the fact that other members of the crew either ignore his outbursts or shrug it all off.

What's more interesting is the fact that Neil becomes more and more reliable for the crew as their armed interventions go on. He is clearly an important, or at least very trusted individual in the Celestial Being crew even just by himself. We see that he's on friendly terms with Ian and is on some level familiar with the Gundam development: he gives Setsuna all sorts of trivia about Exia, like the purpose of its "anti GN field" physical sword, its development name and such, and he seems to be aware of Gundam Nadleeh on some level despite not really working with information or strategy directly. He also knows about Tieria's ability to link directly with Veda, the only other person who doest being Sumeragi who, for all intents and purposes, is the commanding officer of the Ptolemy crew. He takes his job seriously enough that he's literally the only one to always listen to Sumeragi's orders during their interventions, he doesn't even join Setsuna's and Tieria's attack on the Trinity without asking for instructions first. He doesn't do anything selfish to compromise the plan and when he does, there's no plan anymore, Celestial Being are left to their own devices at this point, and the selfish thing Neil wants to do is to go and join the losing battle while injured, and Saachez wasn't exactly his goal at first. He doesn't ignore warnings per se, but he doesn't listen either. Before that though Neil always puts the interventions first. He demands an explanation from Setsuna for his weird interaction with Saachez in Moralia that could have compromised their mission, hitting him without any real threat while asking "You know why I did that, right?" He despises terrorists, but he uses his anger to vipe them out and bring actual changes and results without actually getting too emotionally invested in the situation after his initial completely emotions based conflict with Tieria's cold-hearted desinterest in the outcome of terrorist attacks caused by the interventions. He doesn't hold a grudge against Tieria specifically either, despite Tieria calling him out on being a hypocrite for hating terrorists while being a part of Celestial Being, which at this point is considered a terrorist organisation by the world.

When Neil's past comes up in the fight with the Trinity, he explains his views and motives to Setsuna and listens to Setsuna in return, and they manage to reach an understanding through an honest dialogue on the spot, throwing away secrecy, and I think this is why Neil's entire existence is important for the story as a whole, and specifically for Setsuna's story. Neil hated the terrorists for killing his family for a decade, but he got attached to Setsuna enough to try and have a conversation with him first instead of just shooting him. He was able to put his anger aside and listen to Setsuna's point of view, and in the same conversation he admits that he indeed contradicts himself by fighting violence with more violence, and that he's ready to answer for everything when all is said and done, which resolves his previously mentioned conflict with Tieria who's a witness to the conversation. The three of them reach an understanding and come back to space with a resolve, and of course it doesn't go well, but Neil's attempt to protect Tieria and his bond with Setsuna ultimately do both of them more good than harm. He doesn't consider Setsuna his enemy, and he doesn't even blame Tieria for the failure because he knows Tieria's beating himself up over it anyway.

Despite all of that, Neil's final actions are selfish and self-destructive. He put the mission and his comrades first, he supported them to the best of his ability, but he's no saint, and he's relatively young too, so his grief for his family overshadowed everything in the very end. Neil even asks himself, "What am I even doing here?" and he's thinking of his family before going for his last attempt to shoot Saachez. He's questioning himself, but goes for the selfish act anyway, because he can't move on if he doesn't, and this inability to pursue future costs him his life. In the end, other than revenge, he wanted actual change in the world for his brother's sake. Even though there were ways for Neil to achieve things he wished for, he was a human and contradicted himself as humans tend to do. When it came to the revenge, he was selfish and blinded by anger, but he also wanted to give a future to his remaining family in Lyle. He was supporitve of his comrades in Celestial Being, but also dismissed Tieria's worries completely despite knowing better than anyone that Tieria will blame himself for Neil's very much self-inflicted injuries.

Neil's unreasonable actions and his death motivated Setsuna's pursuit of greater change and dialogue and Tieria's pursuit of his own humanity, and as sad as it it, I think things wouldn't be the exactly the same if Neil was to survive.

speak (and i’ll listen) - a short MonWinn fic set in an AU of Supergirl S2 (the AU being that they’re together, and not Mon and Kara). Winn stresses over not being able to stop Music Meister. Mon does his best to comfort him.

to new beginnings - A Westhallen short fic written for Polyam Shpping Day #14, set in an alternate season 2 and featuring the three of them discussing New Year’s resolutions.

brothers (lost and found) - the first part of Cobalt Blue and The Flash, where Barry Allen and Malcolm Thawne have been best friends for six years, with Barry essentially taking on the role of big brother due to Malcolm’s estrangement from his own brother. When Malcolm gets struck by lightning while trying (and failing) to prevent Barry from suffering the same fate, he wakes up five months later with speedster powers, and unbeknownst to him this changes everything.

doubt (and the bonds of love) -  Another short MonWinn fic, set in an alternate S3 where Mon-El never left Earth. Mon-El has become distant all of a sudden and Winn is determined to find out why.

to live and rise (and hope again) - longfic about Eliana Kent, Clark and Lana’s daughter from an alternate universe, as she experiences a massive power boost, becomes a hero, and joins the DEO, while still dealing with her family’s loss and having to work with two of their counterparts.

the future (is ours) - a short Thallen fic, set in a AU where Iris is the Flash, Eobard got defeated without any casulties, and Barry and Eddie are dating - Eddie second guessing his relationship with Barry after Eobard’s manipulations.

right here (is where i’m meant to be) - A lazy morning Segdam fic set post-canon.

looking for america (coming through your schools) - the first part of the Nicky Connors, Cobra Adjacent series, which focuses on Nicky Connor’s friendship with the OG Cobras, particulary Johnny. This fic is set on New Year’s Eve 1983, with the six of them reflecting on the year past and being hopeful about 1984.

RWBY Remarks: Shipping the Ace Ops

This just in. The squiggle meister really, really LIKES the Ace Ops!

Their characters already intrigued me from the first episode of V7. But now that I’ve gotten a little bit more screentime with them, I really like these guys. They seem like a cool bunch and I’m looking forward to seeing how they interact with JNR_RWBY during their time in Atlas.

I mean, they’re no Team FNKI (and I pray they show up at least once for V7 especially for when the group go out partying) but the Aces are cool.

So that being said, since I like the Aces so much, it was only a matter of time before I chose my favourites of the bunch. That will be Marrow and Elm, thank you very much. 

Marrow is good boy (even though he lies which is the point). Oscar may be best boy but can we all agree that Marrow is good boy. Such a good boy. I hope someone pats  him on the head and naturally he lies and tries to act all nonchalant and tsundere like he doesn’t like it but his tail betrays the fact that he really loves getting his head scratched. Can you pet the good boy in RWBY? I hope you can. 

Next up is Elm: Elm is such a big build-a-bear of sweetness that I can’t help but adore her. She’s so cute!

She only had like two lines in this entire episode and already she has joined the ranks of my favourites 

I want her to interact with Oscar sooooooo badly. Like Nora, I want Elm ato have a big sisterly affectionate love for Oscar so that most of their interacts involve Elm either trying to squish Oscar’s freckled cheeks or lift him up like he’s bread to her and give him one giant crushing bear hug. Please make it happen show.

So yeah Big Buff Barefoot Build-A-Bear and Good Boy are favourites from the Aces. And since I like the Aces enough to have favourites already, naturally I’m going to have ships to go with it. Yes. I started shipping the Aces..with each other of course.

Bunny Bites (Harriet x Marrow) 

Folks in the FNDM over here shipping Harriet and Yang, meanwhile my chocolate-coated squiggly behind is shipping Harriet and Marrow. 

By the way Harriet snickered at Marrow’s adorkable little tail wag moment (such a Good Boy) and his sort of agitate embarassed reaction to her laughing at him made me think there might be a little something-something between those two. Maybe.

If I had to guess their dynamic, I’d say that Marrow and Harriet are probably super competitive with each other especially Harriet since that seems to be her thing (Tortoise and the Hare, am I right?). 

However at the core of their relationship, Marrow secretly has crush on Harriet but because he’s a pathological liar (the Boy Who Cried Wolf) and a bad one at best, Harriet doesn’t take his advances or attempts at flirting with her seriously; even though she low-key likes him too.

I’m imagining them like Wally West and Artemis in S1 of Young Justice. They have chemistry and clearly like-like each other but they’re both too stubborn to admit even though it’s obvious to the rest of their group. I’ll need more info on them to see if my hunch about them is correct. 

But for now, I’m on the Marrow and Harriet ship :D I don’t know what to call their ship though. I’m thinking of calling it “Bunny Bites” for now.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Elm and Vine (Elm x Vine) 

I’m also starting to ship Elm and Vine since someone shared a post yesterday talking about the two possibly taken inspiration from The Elm and the Vine. It’s said that pruned elm trees act as vine supports and thus, this was taken as a symbol of marriage.

So perhaps we might see Elm and Vine of the Ace Ops being a couple who work really well together as symbol of their bond. Another power couple whose relationship contends with Ren and Nora. 

Imagine Nora and Ren learning about love and teamwork from observing Elm and Vine and thus, this strengthens both their relationship as a couple and their dynamic as teammates on the battlefield.

At first I pegged Elm and Harriet to be a couple when I first mused about the Aces. But now I’m seeing that Elm and Vine might be a couple given their fairy tale inspiration, not to mention that their whole aesthetic is awfully close to Ren and Nora.

We got Vine over here looking like a monk with  tattooed symbols and prayer beads. And then there’s Ms Elm, big buff and barefooted wielding a mighty hammer.

If Elm and Vine are indeed a couple then I am all for it. They can double date with Ren and Nora. Nora is my second favourite female character (after Ruby and before Penny) and I’m already loving Elm---she’s so adorable! I can’t wait to see these two gals interact and I can’t wait to see Elm and Ren react to their girlfriends  meeting each other and becoming friends. 

This squiggle meister is all in for powerful hammer-wielding ladies who could probably break their tall Shaolin-inspired pacifist boyfriends in half but they never will because their love for them is stronger than they are. 

Ren and Nora’s relationship was already pretty sweet before they officially got together-together in V4. So I’m hoping Elm and Vine are just as cute. I hope it’s the type of relationship where Elm is pretty outgoing and sweet until you make her angry and Vine is the only one who can calm her down with his love and support. That’d be precious.

As for Clover Ebi---I don’t ship Clover with anyone. He’s the cheese that stands alone for me. I see Clover as the Dad of the Aces because he apparently looks to be the oldest of the team. He’s got eye bags in his character design so y’know what that means, folks?

 The glue that leads and holds these ragtag bunch of kids together and keeps them well in check. Plus it’d be cute if Clover is already in a relationship but his partner isn’t in the military.

 I can see that. But who know’s. Anyways, that’s all I got to say for today. Cheerios FNDM fam!
