ik this is old news but it’s been on my mind lately. it was very incredibly alienating as a female star wars fan (and lesbian) when manny jacinto took his shirt off in the acolyte and a thousand people were like “FINALLY they’re making star wars for WOMEN not gross boy star wars!!!”
it was especially frustrating because i feel like so much time (like literal decades!!) was spent having to fight people to see “star wars has always been for girls too, it’s for everyone!” only for people to seemingly concede that actually, it WAS always for boys, but NOW we have star wars for girls because dark romance or whatever
i’m happy people who previously weren’t interested in star wars found something that appealed to them and drew them in. this is by no means a gatekeeping post saying it’s wrong to have gotten into the acolyte because of those things. it just really sucks to be someone who did always love star wars and had to spend a long time defending being a girl who likes star wars only for people who should be on the same side unwittingly play into the rhetoric that was used to try to exclude women

So...
I voted for a candidate who was less than perfect
Some policies I don't like might go into effect
Some online friends are mad at me
I got called angry names on Tumblr
Most damning of all, I think I can live with it.

speaking this into existence (thinking out loud cause i want to read this fic even if i have to write it myself)
but like. hera and ahsoka have totally hooked up between rebels and the live action, right? like, yes, god, hera grieves kanan, but there is a war on and she’s raising a kid and she was 26 when he dies, and it hurts for a long time, but if war teaches you anything it’s that life goes on eventually. and maybe, at some point, when all the fighting is done, they get together and it’s comfortable, maybe for the first time in a very long time for both of them and a couple of drinks turns into one thing which turns into a whole other thing
and for once maybe, ahsoka is living a fairly peaceful life, as it becomes a regular thing. it’s just convenient, is what she tells herself maybe, she’s a jedi and hera is a new republic general, and she lets herself believe for a second that’s what it is. they work well together. until hera—who maybe shouldn’t have assumed anything about stuff (Stuff™️) being obvious considering her past experience with jedi—mentions feelings, her feelings, for ahsoka, and ahsoka just sort of shuts down and runs, cause she doesn’t let people get close. because that’s the way it’s been since she was like.
fourteen.
because if you let people get close you put them in danger, because you were given your first command in an active warzone at 14 and you watched people who trusted you die so often that maybe it should have desensitised you, but you never stopped feeling those deaths.
anyway. just something i was thinking about :)))
(i am fine i am normal and can be trusted with more ahsoka lore)

so i googled my current favourite play that i'm absolutely obsessed with and ended up on the english wikipedia site bc my browser is set to english and. it's so bad. the fucking plot overview leaves out basically everything that happens ever except for the end result. several key figures aren't even mentioned. "this guy dies for freedom" well, yes, but actually no, plus you're implying his sacrifice is actually worth it. that's not true. in some other section a dude is mentioned who claims this play is basically star wars. that someone familiar with the play but not star wars could look at a star wars poster and tell you which characters are narratively similar/equal to characters of the play. i am baffled. i have never, not once in my life, ever seen someone be so wrong. dude must have read an entirely different play. i'm tempted to dig up the english version and read it just to see how fucking wrong he is. he is *so* incredibly wrong. jesus fuck. how could you possibly say that
#like??? lets assume the protagonists are sorta equivalent#okay?? daddy issues ig? one of them is filled with hope and the other with despair and obsessive love based in stubbornness#one of them refuses to give up to save many and the other has given up many to pursue his hopeless love interest#(until the end at least. hes so fucked up and stupid <3)#and okay that unreachable love interest is shared BUT????#i cant even begin to describe how fucking different those situations are#also bc without an in depth explanation the play situation sounds so much worse than it is#then the protags bestie#in star wars we have han whos cool but he didnt mean to be there for the longest time. a smuggler etc#in the play we have this super righteous guy whom Nobody speaks ill of whos literally our protags only moral compass#well not the only. well. actually. currently yes he is thats accurate#i mean obviously theres differences already bc one is basically a space fairy tale and the others a tragedy but#the character constellations are NOT even remotely similar!!!#the motives are VERY different!! the way the characters think and feel and act are VERY different!!!#just bc theres a protag who has a bad father a best friend and a love interest he shouldn't be into does NOT mean ones based on the other#and even if dude refers to a different star wars movie THE SAME STILL APPLIES#ITS SO INCREDIBLY WRONG LITERALLY I CANNOT GET OVER THIS#not that the wikipedia plot overview is much better#yes youre TECHNICALLY right but YOU ARE IGNORING THE PLOT#YES THAT HAPPENS BUT ONLY AT THE VERY END BC OF THE PLOT THAT YOU DIDNT MENTION#YOURE IGNORING CHARACTERS INTEGRAL TO THE PLOT#(the women ofc. THEYRE IMPORTANT. yes they still play their restrictive af roles given the age of the play#BUT THEY STILL MATTER AND INFLUENCE THINGS???? let my girl fuck up so bad. let my other girl try so hard to do her best even as shes#powerless within the narrative and her fellow characters whims and moods and ploys)#and again! saying my guy dies for freedom is such a gross oversimplification#that scene is so intense and based in such complicated actions and intentions and feelings youre doing it a disservice#you can simplify it like that but ONLY IF YOU PROVIDE CONTEXT PLEASE#YOU CANT SAY 'THIS IS THE PLOT' AND THEN IGNORE THE ENTIRE PLOT#PLEASE THERE WASN'T A SINGLE MENTION OF LETTERS EVEN WTF ARE YOU DOING#WHOEVER WROTE THAT WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE DROP UR URL I JUST WANNA TALK

some silly little thoughts i have on monster :
big fan of how so many characters in monster have a big nose like that's peak character design, that's exactly how i draw people 🫡. and every character, even ones with one line of dialogue have a different nose, i love this !! i think my favorite noses, on the top of my head right now, are runge's and karl's.
i'm also a big fan of how many middle aged/old men there is, as a fictional dilh (dad i'd like to have) lover. (this one is about only like five characters because the rest are kinda bad people etc.)
there was only supposed to have these two thoughts but i decided to ad two more :
i love the french detective hired by müller, he deserved better. also if there ever is an adaptation of monster, my theater teacher, who's an actor too, should play him i think 🤭 (he's french and kinda looks like the character and i love him so).
since i'm on the topic of an adaptation of monster with real actors, i don't want one UNLESS it's with exclusively with german-speaking actors. like i want it to be a fully european production all in german (with characters speaking czech, english, turkish, french etc when needed, obviously). i put my trust in arte if there was someone to produce this because they have banger german shows 🫡. also i want the actors in this scenario to mostly not be very famous, just to be good and have the same vibe as much as possible as the characters. although i'm not against more famous people being in it, they should have little roles imo (like if an actor like idk david suchet plays the old english husband or katrin sass plays a random nurse, i don't mind yk)

Hmm it's almost like gender is a construct so getting into minutia arguments about microlabels is a complete fucking waste of time and an expression of extreme ignorance. almost like the million different ways queerness has been expressed all contradicting eachother for hundreds of years is for a reason and they all equally have important things to say about HUMAN EXPRESSION

Umm no. Cheng Pei Pei (y'all might remember her as the villain in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) is the first lady of action film. Pam Grier comes close by a few years. But Cheng Pei Pei kicked that door down in 1966 and it's been open for female martial artists ever since. Hollywood can't get anything right.

fuck dave filoni for ruining three beloved female characters by bringing them to live action and not only miscasting every single one of them but putting them in horrible prosthetics/makeup/costumes. our girls deserve peace.

i once was talking to a friend of mine who's a big star wars fan and she told me that, while she didn't enjoy the new trilogy, she like that by making kylo ren sexy they introduced women to the franchise.
