I've combed through this conversation so many times and I still can't figure out who "someone" is

Those are absolutely two of my favorite pictures of Elvis. Of course I like the details and all the info I can get on the pictures. One thing I have to say is that in that moment Elvis was in his 7th season at the International Hotel in Las Vegas (August 4th - September 4th 1972), and it was the first time he brought Linda Thompson to accompany him during the concerts (prior to that she had only accompanied Elvis during rehearsals in July). You can imagine how jealous I am of her because, well, just look at Elvis! 🫠🥲 Anyway, here's a little story about the fans with Elvis in those pictures:

Las Vegas, NV. Monday, August 28, 1972. Elvis with two Italian fans. The woman is Nicla Crippa and the man was the President of the Italian fan club, his name is Livio Monari. Livio Monari started the Italian FC in 1962. Together with Nicla Crippa, a personal friend and member of his Fan Club, they met Elvis just after the Midnight show on 26th August 1972. Photos taken that day didn't come out, so they asked to see Elvis again... to have new ones taken on the 28th August (2nd meeting) which are the ones shown above. They had just attended the Dinner & Midnight shows on the 28th Aug: when a waiter approached them - that Elvis was waiting for them.

Nicla said the following about the meeting:

1972 was a special year for me, I picked up all my saving of a year and together with Livio Monari at that time president of the E.P.F.C. of Italy, I flew to Las Vegas in August to see Elvis performing. When we arrived we were so excited that we started immediately to ask anybody of Elvis entourage if we could meet Elvis, crook Col. Parker was at a gambling table with his cigar and he said very rude "NO, you cannot met Elvis", then Joe Esposito who said No too, and when I told him "Hey Joe you are Italian like us" he answered "I'm not Italian, I was born in Chicago" very rude too... until I saw the name of Emilio Muscelli on an office door, I knocked and entered and I said with all my 18 years old enthusiasm (in fact I was not yet 18, I would have turned 18 on December 30) "Hi Emilio, we are Italians and we are here to see Elvis concerts and meet him"... well he took it good to his heart and from that point on he treated me like his daughter - he was 50 years old. We saw 14 concerts in 7 days and we met Elvis TWICE, the first time on August 26 but the pictures Joe Esposito took with Livio's camera did not come out as Livio due the emotion charged an already used film in the camera... the second time on August 28, this time we called a professional photographer to take the 2 pictures to be sure. When I saw Elvis the first time coming out of his dressing room I ran towards him and I almost jumped on him, I hugged and kissed him and he returned the hugs and kisses to me and he asked me "Hey baby how old are you" I answered "18" and he said "And you came all the way from Italy just to see me?" "Yes Elvis" and he "Oh baby..." and he hugged me again very tight. We stayed with him for 15 minutes, we gave him a trophy we brought from Italy unfortunately we have no picture of Elvis with our trophy but I saw it at Graceland Trophy Room in 1987. He wrote a dedication to me, and one to Livio, on 2 LPs we brought with us, he gave us a yellow scarf each, but especially I held his right hand in my hands for a long time, and he did not withdraw it, on the contrary he caressed my hands. He was such a gentle, sweet and tender person, he made us feel at ease and he slowed down speaking English as at that time I could not speak English well. We asked "when will you come to Europe?" he said looking at Joe "I definitely wanna go, after a project I have for January 1973 (Aloha from Hawaii) I'll ask Parker to organize a tour to Europe". The night after Emilio gave us seats in the first row, Elvis saw me from stage and he stooped down and he put a red scarf around my neck... and on August 28 we met him again same place backstage and he said "Hey you are still here, good", he had such a sense of humour. Those 2 meetings with Elvis still are the best moments of my life!

Idk about other peoples opinions but I really hate the phrase 'differently abled'

Like disabled isn't a slur it's a description.

And I'm not 'differently abled', just cause I can't walk without my cane doesn't mean I can fly or smth

And I swear its always Able-bodied, neurotypical people that are saying this. Especially Mums of neurodivergent kids (specifically young ones like they have an autistic 6 year old), I swear they are always saying it like its a superpower, its just a state of existence Cathy I'm not superman.

I am disabled, I require aids and accommodations to functions at a lower standard than the average able bodied neurotypical person. I'm not saying being disabled or disability is a bad thing, a lot of times disability is neutral as long as you have the tools you need to adapt to a non disabled friendly society. There are positive and negative parts of being disabled and sure you can develop skills because of your disability but it doesn't mean that you are suddenly 'differently abled'. As well every disabled person, no matter if they have the exact same disability, will experience it differently and have varying opinions on it.

And I do get its mostly to combat this idea of disabled=inferior but we don't need to have that association. Just because there are things I can't do doesn't make my life less valuable, same for any other disabled person. Disabled doesn't mean less, it is a description and I think we need to remember that far more than calling disabled people 'differently abled'. Idk, it just feels like really weird advocacy that just pushes an ableist idea that disabled people can't just be disabled, you have to prove you have other worth otherwise you are worthless.

If you do use and like the term 'differently abled' for yourself or anyone you know uses it, I'm not saying that's bad. You can self identify that way, I just don't like it when people use it to describe me because it feels inaccurate and kinda performative. <3

Why the Evangelion Rebuilds are Awesome (mostly) (to me) (TO ME)

Y'know, I know that a lot of people dislike the rebuilds, but honestly, the rebuilds are my boy. My blorbo. My silly little guy. As much as I enjoy the original series and EoE, I think that people tend to dislike the rebuilds because they're not as iconic, and that may be true, but I love the rebuilds because of what message they're actually sending in the larger narrative context.

I mean, it's so disheartening to see Shinji grow through the series to only regress along with all the other characters, compared to seeing him grow as a person and follow the same pattern of regression (which is primarily shown through his trauma response to Kaworu dying) but end out differently in the end. In EoE, Shinji was immediately forced back into the field in an extremely vulnerable emotional and psychological state that only worsened as the movie went along and he saw the horrific fates of everyone around him. He felt as though he was alone and he was punished for opening to SOMEONE and then being forced to kill him as if he was nothing but another enemy when in reality he was the only person Shinji felt truly loved him. No matter he was emotionally screwed over! In fact, and I don't plead this ever, I'd say that on some level his mind must've legitimately snapped. By the end, he was still alive and the world didn't fully end, but it was a desolate version of itself and everyone Shinji cared about was still dead. Rei was dead, Misato was dead, Kaworu was dead. The only thing left was this girl who repeatedly showed how much she hated him, who refused to give him kindness when Kaworu gave it so easily, who was still alive but barely and decided to choke her out to put her out of her misery and to make sure he didn't have to suffer through another loss. And we don't find out what happens after that. It's a masterful ending, but so soul-crushing and so hopeless. Beautiful in it's horror.

However, compare this to the rebuilds, where Shinji and the funky bunch end up actually connecting and growing emotionally as time goes on. Asuka gets close to Mari, who obviously loved her very much and Asuka cared about as well. Rei connects with the villagers and is able to build her own soul and sense of self as time went on. Misato and Ritsuko grew closer as time went on and built an organization to help humanity and despite everything, Misato still loved Shinji and that love and trust saved the world. Shinji got the time to properly sit down and process his trauma. He was given space and time. And so by the final showdown in THRICE UPON A TIME, he was matured enough to take the advice of people he loved in order to craft a new universe and give his loved downs a happier ending. He gets his own happy ending.

It's a message of connection and hope and the importance of human understanding. The forces of heart and mind and will coming together to create miracles. Literally saving the world with the power of stable mental health and love. It's one of the most beautiful character progressions I've ever seen (even if there are some writing decisions I don't agree with and some interpretations I personally don't understand (shoutout to those two guys on the internet who said Rei and Kaworu were a couple bc they were standing next to each other, I'd like to personally say what the hell) )

Also, I think we can all agree that the rebuilds had an absolute fire soundtrack. I still get chills listening to stuff like The Ultimate Soldier, Fate, God's Gift, nerv euro, Beautiful World (all versions), and One Last Kiss.

Anyways, sorry for the long post. I just adore the rebuilds. Yes this spawned from me sad watching 3.33 over and over again. bc why not.

I now raise you the idea that, while the canonicity of the Red Nose Day 2023 one shot is unstated, it actually now makes way more sense for Scanlan to originally be from the Menagerie Coast, which in turn, ironically, serves as a strong argument against the largely (and deservedly) forgotten fan theory that Scanlan was Fjord's father, because the purpose of that theory was, like the accent one, mostly created to somehow make Fjord be from Tal'Dorei.

This whole thing is frightening. Do you possibly have any words of wisdom?

If you're not Donald Trump you're gonna live to see tomorrow, so there's that (he'll live too, it was literally just the ear, unfortunately for my belief in karma, he is fine).

In all seriousness, I'm not an election forecaster or statistician in any capacity so I can't say how this'll Affect The Election but in my view, it's not gonna be much. The sympathy vote is not really a thing anymore, it hasn't been a thing since Dubya so I'm not concerned about that. I don't think it's gonna move actual undecideds one way or another, and people who are already committed to one party aren't going to be swayed in a new direction either because polarization is simply too entrenched in political parties these days. And he can't do much "look how I'm ailing" shit because his ear got grazed and that is literally it. Not to mention the election is five months away, which in politics is the equivalent to like ten million years. Remember when Joe Biden had that bad debate performance that sent everyone into a tailspin for no reason? That was two weeks ago, but it feels like a decade, because news cycles, especially in politics, go really fast. Last month we were literally still talking about the impact of the college protests on the election. Yeah I bet you already forgot about those, didn't you?

The only thing that really concerns me is that his base is already violent and whacked out of their minds, and they'll use this, and any hysteria he and his allies drum up about it because they're incapable of not doing so, to promote more violence against people they perceive as enemies. And we know they're already capable, because one of them literally tried to beat Paul Pelosi to death with a hammer (another point in the 'sympathy vote doesn't exist' column because did that man trying to break into Nancy Pelosi's home to kidnap and torture her before trying to kill her husband when she wasn't around sway anyone to be more in favor of Democrats/less in favor of Republicans? no, it didn't), so I wouldn't be shocked if some idiot tried something in retaliation. Which is cause for concern, yes, because it is always important to remember that Republicans as a whole are violent and bloodthirsty and do not see their opponents as people (and that is just another example of why both parties are NOT in fact the same, tankies), but use that to galvanize you into working as hard as you can to get Dems in office and support Democratic policies and platforms and officials.

Ultimately anon, I am not someone who catastrophizes, and I also know that I can only control me and you can only control you. So just remember to focus on what you can do and how you react to things. And if you need to log off, log off. Keep your peace, and ultimately, I think just remember that this all seems new and exciting and insane because it's fresh and happening now, but we also felt the same about that time he got COVID. That became old hat fast, and odds are this will too.
