Just as a general statement, just because an actor or voice actor does something wrong, it doesn't have to taint your view of that media. You can still love the story and be upset with the individual. We can separate the art from the artist.

#this was prompted by the toru furuya scandal #what he did was awful #no one should be pressured into an abortion #my heart goes out to that girl #woman... she's older than me... but still...#that is such a terrible thing to go through #and the fact that there seems to have been at least one instance of physical abuse on top of that #it's just a terrible situation all around #i'm not condoning anything he did #I'm just saying we don't have to stop loving shows he worked on #we can call for his replacement in current projects #but we don't need to hate everything that he's touched #if something he was a part of touched your heart i guarantee there was more to it than just his voice that did that

if we define “good dad” by genuinely wanting what’s best for your kid, loving and caring for them unconditionally, being patient with them, making them feel valued, giving them the space to express themselves, encouraging their talents, and genuinely trying your best and doing what you think is best for them, then Silco was a good dad.

But if we define “good dad” by actually being able to properly parent and discipline your child, ensuring they aren’t a danger to themselves and others, teaching them healthy life lessons so that they can grow, not projecting your own unresolved trauma onto your child in a codependent way, and being a good role model, then Silco was NOT a good dad.

sorry to everyone who knows me but that last reblog has me thinking about taz balance SPECIFICALLY taako and lup. like. imagine you’ve already had to live through hell and ruin your body and your perception of yourself through a literal suffering game. and then just as you’re probably longing for some sort of comfort or release you Remember. you remember and you suddenly realize that there has been an emptiness in you all this time that you didn’t even know about, but god it’s so gaping wide and encompassing and how did you live? hell, how can you live with yourself now? your sister, your family, your heart, Your Person, the one you’ve shared everything with your whole life. and one day she was gone with only a hastily written note in her place. you never got closure. and worse than that, you didn’t even get to keep her memory. you forgot her. you fucking lost her twice and you couldn’t even mourn her the second time because you didn’t know what you had lost. like. no fucking wonder he told lucretia she took everything from him by removing lup and her memory from his life he LITERALLY LOST EVERYTHING!!! fuck dude i’m gonna be sick. wtf

What’s wild is that you can write a story that revolves around two male characters and make it sibling-coded or as obviously platonic as you want, but Hori didn’t do that. Right up until the finish line he fed the bkdk’s when given the choice.

He didn’t have to give Katsuki an 11+ year hang up about holding Izuku’s hand. He didn’t have to make Izuku so possessive, or have him go feral anytime Katsuki was looked at wrong. He certainly didn’t have to give Izuku the “I’m gonna hurt your loved one to hurt you” trope or have Katsuki use Izuku’s kiddie nickname for himself in front of the biggest bad.

He gave Izuku the “control your heart” complex that centered entirely on Katsuki

He had Katsuki literally die and come back to life thinking only about Izuku

He gave them the big eyes-meet-across-the-battlefield moment and that voiceover about how their feelings were finally one

At every opportunity, right up until the epilogue chapter, Hori chose to write Izuku and Katsuki like you would the main hero and heroine in any action story and it worked
