Mississippi is the state that diverted money meant to go to social welfare programs to build a volleyball stadium at a state university for Brett Favre’s daughter.
Mr. Brown’s act wasn’t just morally correct, it was a necessary reparation after the criminal action of the state.
I’m not saying it’s right, but I understand (x)

"JAIL PENALTY FOR OBTAINING AID BY FRAUD," Winnipeg Tribune. July 11, 1933. Page 1. ---- "This is the very sort of case I have been trying to stop for some time," declared Magistrate Graham, in city police court today, when sentencing William J. Robbins. alias McInnes, to three months in jail for defrauding the city relief department.
Robbins pleaded guilty to obtaining food vouchers to the value of $118 and $98 cash by fraud. The court was told that Robbins, who has a wife and eight children living out of the city, was obtaining relief while living with another woman. When authorities discovered he was not married to this woman he was taken off relief. He then re- registered under the name of McInnes and again began getting re- lief for himself and the woman he was living with.

Once in a lifetime
Of course it happened in Biddeford. Okay, so maybe it could have happened in Sanford, Lewiston or Rumford but really – – what’s the difference? I’m speaking, of course, about the so-called sting video that was meant to prove rampant abuse of welfare benefits in Maine. The undercover, amateur video was shot in the Biddeford office of the Maine Department of Health & Human Services roughly six…

In Mississippi they've long praised self-sufficiency and tend to condemn federal anti-poverty programs.
Given that, I'm sure you're shocked (shocked!) to hear that, instead of spending their federal welfare dollars on poor people, they've instead been giving it to rich people.
Seems self-sufficiency is only until you're rich enough to buy yourself access.

Why the trope of the benefit “scrounger” has returned
“Everything is dark. A siren yelps, drums kick in, police in riot helmets march up a stairwell, and a man – his head out of shot – zips up a black stab vest marked ‘DWP’.
“It’s Tom Pursglove, a Tory minister of the Matt Hancock aesthetic (Foxtons Tintin), tabard strapped over his suit, standing beside a tree. Brow furrowed, he quasi-quotes Liam Neeson’s ex-CIA maverick in the 2008 film Taken: ‘We will track you down. We will find you. And we will bring you to justice.’ ...
“This is the Department for Work and Pensions’ latest campaign warning against welfare fraud. It was tweeted from the department’s account last Thursday morning, with a take-on-Taken caption: ‘At DWP we have a very particular set of skills that we use in conjunction with the police to tackle fraud.’
“The focus on benefit cheats is disproportionate to the reality. Fraud amounted to just 3 per cent of welfare payments in 2020-21, or £6.5bn. This looks even less significant when you compare it with tax fraud: the ‘tax gap’ between what is owed and what is collected (of which fraud is a large part) is at 5.1 per cent, costing the government £42bn a year. Fraudulent Covid loans, meanwhile, cost the UK £17bn – most of which the government does not expect to recover.”

Form an LLC and defraud the government, it's what the U.S. was founded on. It only requires a small amount of self-education. An LLC makes fraud legal.

"More Jail Terms For Relief Fraud," Ottawa Citizen. June 15, 1934. Page 2. --- Magistrate Strike Regrets Painful Duty, But Says Public Must Be Protected. ---- Jail terms were drawn this morning by two Ottawa residents for obtaining relief by fraud in failing to disclose income they received. Both charges were laid as the result of investigations by Officer George Gray.
John Duffy, 840 Somerset street, did not report $60 he earned and was sentenced to one month in jail and George Faucher, 42 Garland street, to six weeks, both sentences to date from June 9th when the men pleaded guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Strike said Faucher's offence was the more serious as he failed to report various sums earned over a period of time. To protect the public and as a warning to others, as well as punishment, the magistrate said he had to impose a sentence although it was not a pleasant duty.

There have also been multiple studies looking at the estimated amount of "fraud" (whether it be full on stealing from the state and pulling from the pot, or a needy family fudging the numbers because the base amount isn't actually enough to live on) and how much it would cost to actually investigate, find, and prosecute the fraudsters.
I don't have a resource in front of me right now, but I believe the percentage of fraud usually hovers between 1 and 2%, and the estimated cost to find and prosecute sits between 3 and 10 times the amount lost. It just doesn't make economic sense to try to find these people. This disparity is, in some small part, because the person has somebody on the inside, so all the paperwork would be squeaky clean.
I know that there are people who like to claim that everyone is doing it. That there are people living high of these "entitlements." If that were the case why isn't the amount of fraud higher?
If you actually want the amount of people on welfare to go down, people need to be paid enough to survive. I don't care what they are doing for a job. Wal-Mart has bragged about having resources available so that their employees, who need help, can sign up for welfare. Wal-Mart is spending millions to ensure that they don't have to pay their employees any more than they absolutely have to. Because, guess what? The vast majority of Wal-Mart employees are on some kind of assistance.
This issue is so bad that the amount of tax money that Wal-Mart produces cannot offset the amount of tax money that is spent on welfare, just because a Wal-Mart is in the area.
I don't give a shit as long as those in need benefit
#welfare#nonexistent fraud#Wal-Mart#Walmart#once again#it all comes down to the greed of a few very wealthy people
