I was in a flight to visit some old childhood friends a while back. And I was seated by this old couple and as we got off, this old lady was like "I felt so guilty not wearing my mask since you wore yours the entire time 🥺"
And on the trip back I sat in the windows seat and in the middle seat was a stuffy nosed child that smelled like cough drops (I will give him points for being well behaved, but he did have an ipad and the screen TV on the entire time).
And guess who didn't get whatever the child had?
Also, over Christmas the entire time my dad was like "OMG! DON'T COME AROUND ME! I'M SO SICK!" Which was saying a lot because he didn't even admit he was sick when we had COVID. Apparently the teenager got the flu at school and TLDR EVERYONE got it except my step-mom and myself. Guess what my step-mom and myself have on common? We're the only two that got our flu vaccines this year!
SUCK IT! I GOT TO ENJOY CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES!

Too be honest, probably the four most neglected topics in leftist spaces as a whole is landback/indigenous rights, nonwhite rights and experiences (black communist/anarchist movements etc.), feminism (especially radicalized militant feminism), and disability accessibility/experiences (both physical and mental(like cluster B disorders especially). Not in that order btw, I believe all 4 of those are interconnected.
My one tip for people getting into leftist spaces, no matter which one it is, is to learn about the most neglected topics especially and to listen to people apart of the above groups. It is going to frustrate the shit out of you and you're going to learn a lot of the leftists around you hold onto the Patriarchy/White Supremacy etc. But you are going to empower both yourself and those around you for the better by educating yourself.

So I spent like 8 hours in the local ER yesterday because I became severely dehydrated (from what I assume is norovirus). My heart rate was up to like 168pbm and blood pressure was bottoming out and ended up getting 4 liters of fluids. With all the other tests I found out I also have a respiratory cold and a uti on top of being VERY sick with the stomach bug.
So my point is, pull those masks back out and stay safe out there. I literally only leave my house to take my kid to the park or get groceries. So this sick season is seriously nothing to mess with. I'm really a fairly healthy person and was told several times they've never seen that much fluid have to go into someone in one sitting before.

What the actual fuck? “Those who are asymptomatic but positive don’t have to isolate at all.”

Oh, cool. So that's actually a thing.
Great.
It says it can take 18-24 months to improve. Fantastic.
Meanwhile, everything just smells like onions. Even the fucking Monster Energy I just poured.
Like, if I focus and take a deep sniff, I can mostly smell the actual scent, but first whiff is always ONIONS.
WHY ONIONS

PDX Respirator Repository
Amanda Abbott created a spreadsheet with a lot of data on 60+ different elastomerics. There is no standardization as each manufacturer has their own sizing charts. So if you are looking for a new mask or looking to upgrade your PPE, there's now information on measurements.
There are even information on whether or you can create 3D-printed covers for the filters and paint the mask(s) to remain stylish during the creeping apocalypse.
If you live in or near Portland, Oregon, you can also contact Amanda for test-fits since she has most of the models. The only way to know if something is COVID-safe is to try the masks on, but they are non-returnable.

honestly if you dont wear your mask even if you *can* (i.e dont have a disability impeding you), either mask up or unfollow me. you have no idea how much it hurts - physically and mentally - that you insist on inaction.

Doctor Beverly Crusher @SpaceDocMom You should no more have to ask your health care workers to mask up than you should have to ask them to wash their hands. These things should be automatic and are not a patient's burden to ensure. emojis: black heart, blue heart, masked x5, spoon 4:46 PM · May 30, 2024

An incubation period is the length of time it takes someone to develop symptoms after exposure to a pathogen. The incubation period for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, has shortened considerably since the virus first began circulating, recent data suggest. Incubation periods averaged about five days when the Alpha variant was dominant, about 4.5 days when Beta and Delta were dominant, and about 3.4 days once Omicron took over, according to a 2022 research review.
Newer research from various countries, including Japan, France, and Singapore, also suggests Omicron strains have incubation periods of about three days, or even a little less.
The virus' incubation period is likely shrinking for a few reasons, says Shane Crotty, chief scientific officer at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology. The virus has evolved over time, becoming faster and more adept at infecting humans, Crotty says. Nearly everyone has also now had at least one brush with COVID-19, whether through vaccination or illness. Each encounter leaves behind instructions for the immune system, helping it recognize the virus faster the next time it appears.
“You having symptoms is all about your immune system being activated,” Crotty explains. “The whole pre-symptomatic period is bad news because your immune system has not managed to pull the fire alarm yet.” A shorter incubation period means that your body is “recognizing the virus faster and pulling those sprinkler systems faster.”

I clearly need a Yamask plushie and a Koffing plushie because my Ogerpon plushie isn't getting people to mask up.

Who was scheduled (after being rescheduled) for their flu shot & covid booster today?
<- this person. yup. and their son.
Who tested positive for covid this morning?
My whole damn family (including fully boostered spouse & younger kiddo).
Fucking ugh.
Masking only works if everyone does it... though the kids held out for 3 years (almost four now, yeah?).
*le sigh*
