EPR Consultants & Its Implementation
What is EPR
EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) Consultants are here to give you the best business strategy.
They help you to add all of the environmental costs associated with a product throughout the product life cycle to the market price of that product.
What do EPR Consultants do?
EPR Consultants work on the principle that manufacturers, usually brand owners, have the greatest control over product design and marketing and have the greatest ability and responsibility to reduce toxicity and waste.

"As the world grows “smarter” through the adoption of smartphones, smart fridges, and entire smart houses, the carbon cost of that technology grows, too.
In the last decade, electronic waste has become one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world.
According to The World Counts, the globe generates about 50 million tons of e-waste every year. That’s the equivalent of 1,000 laptops being trashed every second.
After they’re shipped off to landfills and incinerated, the trash releases toxic chemicals including lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, and so much more, which can cause disastrous health effects on the populations that live near those trash sites.
Fortunately, Franziska Kerber — a university student at FH Joanneum in Graz, Austria — has dreamed up a solution that helps carve away at that behemoth problem: electronics made out of recyclable, dissolvable paper.
On September 11, Kerber’s invention “Pape” — or Paper Electronics — earned global recognition when it was named a national winner of the 2024 James Dyson Awards.
Tumblr media
When she entered the scientific competition, Kerber demonstrated her invention with the creation of several small electronics made out of paper materials, including a fully-functional WiFi router and smoke detector.
“Small electronic devices are especially prone to ending up in household waste due to unclear disposal systems and their small size, so there is significant potential to develop a more user-friendly end-of-life system,” Kerber wrote on the James Dyson Award website.
“With this in mind, I aimed to move beyond a simple recycling solution to a circular one, ensuring long-term sustainability.”
Kerber’s invention hinges on crafting a dissolvable and recyclable PCB board out of compressed “paper pulp.”
A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board that can be found in nearly all modern electronic devices, like phones, tablets, and smartwatches.
But even companies that have started incorporating a “dissolution” step into the end life of their products require deconstruction to break down and recover the PCB board before it can be recycled.
With Kerber’s PAPE products, users don’t need to take the device apart to recycle it.
“By implementing a user-friendly return option, manufacturers can efficiently dissolve all returned items, potentially reusing electronic components,” Kerber explained.
“Rapidly advancing technology, which forms the core of many devices, becomes obsolete much faster than the structural elements, which are often made from plastics that can last thousands of years,” Kerber poses.
PAPE, Kerber says, has a “designed end-of-life system” which anticipates obsolescence.
“Does anyone want to use a thousand-year-old computer?” Kerber asks. “Of course not. … This ensures a sustainable and reliable system without hindering technological advancement.”"

(tw for extensive discussions of dubiously consensual sexual situations, typical to canon. also spoilers for the decay route update)
honestly, one of the most interesting aspects of andrew's psyche that we get to see in the most recent decay route update to me is his nearly unending hesitancy about having sex with ashley, despite both his overwhelming desire to AND her incredibly blasé, Yeah Sure Let's Do It attitude in response to the question.
while the end of the burial route provides some key insight into ashley's point of view regarding this topic (e.g. if you go with the less enthusiastic/more teasing answer to andrew's question of "we're not like that, right? right??"), and the shots & such ending provides even more intrigue into her motivations, i think that decay presents two key reasons as to why andrew has continued to hold back for so long: his two core conflicting desires, and an inability to see ashley as her own full person. notably, both of these parts can easily be connected to his mother's childhood abuse and parentification of him as well.
with regards to the first point: andrew has two main overwhelming desires at the heart of his character that motivate most of his actions, which unfortunately for him are completely incompatible. andrew wants:
to be a normal, average person-- someone who can hold a steady, respectable job, fit in at the block party BBQs, and not attract any negative attention from the neighbors.
to fuck his sister.
to some degree, you could even read the distinction between the two main routes themselves (burial and decay) to be motivated by whether or not andrew can diffuse the tension between these two wants-- in burial, he gives up on his need to fit in with the rest of respectable society, presumably pushing him more towards the fucking-his-sister route; in decay, he struggles significantly to let go of this desire for normalcy, and the stress almost always breaks him. notably, in neither of these routes can he fully give up on the second desire-- really, his relationship with julia and the rest of his life up til the point that ep1 begins has been about him trying and failing to do so, so this makes sense.
(sidenote: i would also like to clarify that i think the Most key distinction between these two routes comes down to the decision you actually have to make to get one or the other-- namely, whether or not the siblings are able to trust one another. but anyways)
this focus on the first desire for normalcy is also interesting in that it seems to be one of the core desires that renee holds as well, as we see her so happily boast about during their interactions in ep2. honestly i could probably write a whole post about how much andrew (consciously or, more often, not) mimics his mother's behavior and takes on her standards and ideals, but the key point to pay attention to here is the fact that andrew has subsumed his mother's viewpoint in such a way that he is either not fully aware of or simply hasn't questioned in all that much depth yet.
we can also see this with the aforementioned parentifiication, which has really interesting consequences on how much andrew does (not) see ashley as her own autonomous person. pretty much every single childhood flashback we get in 3a shows the same terrible cycle:
andrew is told by renee that ashley is His responsibility -> ashley causes problems on purpose -> andrew takes the fall for her
frankly, we don't even really need that first step for andrew to fully internalize the idea that ashley's actions are His to take responsibility for. the horrible consequences of this are also quite obvious: not only is this pressure to take responsibility for someone else's actions an incredibly unfair burden to put on anyone, much less a kid, but it also continually pushes andrew to see ashley as something less than human, or as little more than an extension of himself rather than her own person.
the main conflict in decay really comes down to this conflicting desire between the two of them, where what both andrew and ashley want above all else is Complete and Utter control over the other-- andrew wanting control because he has again been groomed to see ashley as his full responsibility, and ashley wanting control to assuage her own insecurities and fears about being isolated and hated forever. the more sympathetic throughline underlying a lot of this is that what both of them seem to want is safety, to protect both themselves and each other from any and all situations outside of their control-- though, unfortunately, a lot of times those exact external situations are simply the other acting on this mirrored desire for control lol.
anyways, going back to the sex thing-- since andrew doesn't see ashley as her own person, since he sees her as incapable of taking responsibility for her own actions and therefore as someone who cannot make decisions for herself, due in large part to him automatically transferring this burden to himself, andrew also sees ashley's consent as essentially meaningless.
the more sympathetic reading here is that andrew does genuinely want ashley to be at least kinda into it as more than a manipulation tactic/transactional thing-- but i think it's also equally likely that andrew simply doesn't want to have to once again shoulder the full burden of Committing Incest on his own, and he doesn't trust ashley to ever be even capable of taking the fall for her own actions. the fact that andrew still ultimately sees ashley as Leyley and NEVER as Ashley Proper (as he himself recognizes at one point) really just reinforces this to me. he says it himself-- he practically raised this woman. and in this case, even above all others, ashley's actions are quite literally also his own. it all goes back to that initial mistrust, and he carries that resentment with him even after they get around to actually doing it. mutually dubious consent, truly in-fucking-deed.

From Phoebe Weston at the Guardian comes the story of the Herculean effort to clean up Switzerland’s waterways, an effort that has transformed the unique European country into one that enjoys the cleanest urban swimming spots on the continent.
In the 1960s, water quality in the form of sewage treatment investment received the smallest share of attention, and rivers and lakes like the famous one at Geneva were covered in algal mats, off-colored foam, and dead fish.
A typhoid outbreak at Zermatt in 1963 led to several deaths, and hundreds fell ill. It was found that raw sewage was the cause of the epidemic, and an outcry from the public led to massive investments in sewage treatment and pollution control.
That was then. Now, as Weston’s photography testifies, the “Blue Gold” of Switzerland’s waterways are the envy of their neighbors, and people of all ages and at all hours flood the beaches to enjoy a swim, even in the nippy early spring.
“Very high water quality is important to the population,” says Michael Mattle, head of wastewater technology at the engineering company Holinger. “We take a lot of care not to pollute water on its way through Switzerland.”
According to one source, in 1965, only 14% of the population of Switzerland was connected to a wastewater treatment plant. Today it’s 98%, and the government spends €191 on water purification per citizen, compared to just €98 in the UK, for example.
Since 2016, the Swiss federal government has also been working on a massive pollution control effort for drugs and medications flushed down the toilet when they’re excreted by the body. They include, as Weston details, antidepressants, anti-inflammatories, diabetes medication, and even antibiotics.
Wastewater treatment plants basically work like a human stomach, utilizing bacteria to digest and remove organic matter from water. Alternatively, the treatment for these pollutant drugs requires flushing the water through activated charcoal which can remove 80% of the total pollutant load. What’s left are the famous PFAS compounds referred to as “forever chemicals” by the media.
That 20%, operators at the wastewater plants say, should be the focus of regulatory legislation, not treatment infrastructure.
Weston also reports that the EU, and Switzerland’s near neighbors, are visiting to learn about and hopefully replicate the country’s success, with the EU considering new legislation that would require any sewage treatment plants that serve areas of more than 10,000 people to treat for the pollutant pharmaceuticals mentioned above.

I don't like how prominent Windows and MacOS are because they make people need to get new hardware all the time.
my daily driver laptop is literally almost 15 years old. it has a first generation, dual core Intel i3 at 2.4GHz with 4GB of RAM, integrated graphics and a 128GB SSD. and it's perfectly usable for daily activities. I can browse the web, watch YouTube, I can even play some games.
and then I look at people saying that they're surprised that companies still sell laptops with 4GB of RAM. 4GB is perfectly usable! with like 10 tabs open in Firefox I'm using only 3GB.
I got this laptop for free because somebody was going to throw it away like 8 years ago or something, because it was getting slow. it ran windows 10 and was definitely slowing down, but by changing some settings on windows it ran a lot better but still not great.
but by putting Linux on it, it suddenly became perfectly powerful enough. even a heavy distro like Ubuntu ran like a breeze on it. I could play games on it again, I could run a bunch of programs at the same time again, I could watch YouTube at 1080p again.
and to this day it's still perfectly usable with modern software. I switched to Debian, and used a more lightweight DE, and it still runs great. it does have hiccups every now and then, namely Firefox no longer uses hardware video decoding on the GPU which makes it a little jittery with 1080p60 YouTube, but other than that, it's perfectly fine.
and installing and using Linux isn't nearly as advanced as people say it is. with just a little bit of knowledge you can easily install and use Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and others, and bring life to computers again.
it's windows that's making your computer slow. stop buying new computers and contributing to e-waste.
and if you don't want to switch, I'm more than happy to take your computer off your hands when it inevitably becomes too slow to use.

So did anyone else notice how in that scene right near the end where Sevika takes a seat at the new council table and some people quite obviously still disapprove, Sevika is still the only person from Zaun in that room? And you can just tell as she sits down that neither she really thinks she belongs there (hence acts both wary and defensive) and nor really do the rest of the councilmen. I think it's kind of neat cause it shows that Piltover may have just gone through war (which has often been used as an instrument to unite a country under the banner of nationalism in modern history) but it is absolutely not prepared for a complete overhaul of its system. When they give Zaunites a voice at the table, it is just one voice, who may easily be overpowered in the future and who has no experience with the way their politics is handled. Piltover is doomed to repeat its mistakes, because all that this grand war did was distract them from their many, many problems, at least for a while. Until they return to their old ways. Until the mourning period is over and you start gatekeeping top side again. Until enough time has passed for them to get angry and hopeless again, but it doesn't matter, because they are back where they belonged all along.
And maybe that was the point, not to show that society is doomed, but to prove that although everyone managed to come together for a moment, it was only ever going to be a moment. That sometimes complex societal dynamics can't be so easily and satisfactorily solved. But still- the solutions in the short term are flimsy, but they are still there. Sevika is still there. Vi is still there. Sometimes all you need is some dirt under your fingernails you can never really clean out to remind you that no, things aren't okay, but they goddamn well will be.

for a lot of people, making food is a labour of love. my grandparents were all like that (admittedly for some of them it was also growing up with ww2 rationing), and my aunt is like that and many of my friends parents are like that
and i recognise that. and it feels awful to step into the dinning room and see a food ready that you know isn’t compatible with you, because im being fed. someone made that. it cost time and money and expertise. i want to partake in the ritual
it sucks, to tell your friends parents as a kid that you ate before you came, no, really! you’re not that hungry! FUCK my mom literally used to CALL in advance when i went to friends houses and tell them “if you have a meal, it has to be [something on list]”
have you ever sat at your aunts table and had her give you more then you know you’ll eat despite your protests and be told “you need to eat more” or picked through halloween candy to remove what you won’t eat and be left with less then half of what you started with or partake in cooking class at school and giving your portion away because no matter how hungry you are, it’s not happening?
its isolating.
its staring at your body in the mirror before you shower, and wondering how long it’ll last. its being cold no matter what and any time you feel ill being told “you need to eat more”. its wanting more then anything for there to be a pill you take that replaces a full meal. its knowing, perfectly rationally, that you need food. and knowing, irrationally and rationally, that it’s not going to happen.
