It is disturbing that Musk's AI chatbot is spreading false information about the 2024 election. "Free speech" should not include disinformation. We cannot survive as a nation if millions of people live in an alternative, false reality based on disinformation and misinformation spread by unscrupulous parties. The above link is from the Internet Archive, so anyone can read the entire article. Below are some excerpts:
Five secretaries of state plan to send an open letter to billionaire Elon Musk on Monday, urging him to “immediately implement changes” to X’s AI chatbot Grok, after it shared with millions of users false information suggesting that Kamala Harris was not eligible to appear on the 2024 presidential ballot. The letter, spearheaded by Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and signed by his counterparts Al Schmidt of Pennsylvania, Steve Hobbs of Washington, Jocelyn Benson of Michigan and Maggie Toulouse Oliver of New Mexico, urges Musk to “immediately implement changes to X’s AI search assistant, Grok, to ensure voters have accurate information in this critical election year.” [...] The secretaries cited a post from Grok that circulated after Biden stepped out of the race: “The ballot deadline has passed for several states for the 2024 election,” the post read, naming nine states: Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington. Had the deadlines passed in those states, the vice president would not have been able to replace Biden on the ballot. But the information was false. In all nine states, the ballot deadlines have not passed and upcoming ballot deadlines allow for changes to candidates. [...] Musk launched Grok last year as an anti-“woke” chatbot, professing to be frustrated by what he says is the liberal bias of ChatGPT. In contrast to AI tools built by Open AI, Microsoft and Google, which are trained to carefully navigate controversial topics, Musk said he wanted Grok to be unfiltered and “answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.” [...] Secretaries of state are grappling with an onslaught of AI-driven election misinformation, including deepfakes, ahead of the 2024 election. Simon testified on the subject before the Senate Rules and Administration Committee last year. [...] “It’s important that social media companies, especially those with global reach, correct mistakes of their own making — as in the case of the Grok AI chatbot simply getting the rules wrong,” Simon added. “Speaking out now will hopefully reduce the risk that any social media company will decline or delay correction of its own mistakes between now and the November election.” [color emphasis added]

Wells Dam Rest Area And Information Center, WA (No. 5)
The Columbia begins its 1,243 mi (2,000 km) journey in the southern Rocky Mountain Trench in British Columbia (BC). Columbia Lake –  2,690 ft (820 m) above sea level –  and the adjoining Columbia Wetlands form the river's headwaters. The trench is a broad, deep, and long glacial valley between the Canadian Rockies and the Columbia Mountains in BC. For its first 200 mi (320 km), the Columbia flows northwest along the trench through Windermere Lake and the town of Invermere, a region known in BC as the Columbia Valley, then northwest to Golden and into Kinbasket Lake. Rounding the northern end of the Selkirk Mountains, the river turns sharply south through a region known as the Big Bend Country, passing through Revelstoke Lake and the Arrow Lakes. Revelstoke, the Big Bend, and the Columbia Valley combined are referred to in BC parlance as the Columbia Country. Below the Arrow Lakes, the Columbia passes the cities of Castlegar, located at the Columbia's confluence with the Kootenay River, and Trail, two major population centers of the West Kootenay region. The Pend Oreille River joins the Columbia about 2 miles (3 km) north of the United States–Canada border.

I'm not a Caps follower but I tend to keep a closer eye on the guys who have struggled with their health (mental and physical), and I have the utmost respect for Kuzy, with how open he has been about his struggles and what he's needed to do to cope, especially in this shitty, shitty culture (SO many of the problems these guys face go right back to the culture and its expected/encouraged behaviors.) It's sad to see the Caps drop him like that, but I'm telling myself that if this is how they're treating him, they likely aren't going to be the right team to give him the support he needs, and maybe the next team that picks him up will. I'm rooting for him.
i mean, i don't think the caps are just "dropping him like that." and i'm not just saying that because i'm a caps fan — i definitely think they, like all teams, have had times when they've handled their players poorly — but this is a different kind of situation. i think you're right that the caps aren't the team for kuzy right now, not because they're unwilling to support him, but because he has said, multiple times, that he wants and needs a change of scenery and a fresh start. it would be cruel of the capitals not to give him that at this point. we can quibble over whether this is the best way to go about that (i certainly have mixed feelings about it) but i do think that it's a more complicated situation than just dropping him.
kuzy has been saying for a while now that he wants a change of scenery and a second chance somewhere else. he has reportedly been asking for a trade for a couple of seasons now — i say reportedly because the source is a bit iffy, but it seems at least somewhat true — and the caps have been trying to find a deal that works for both him and them since at least last summer. when he came back from the assistance program, the caps gm spoke with kuzy and his representatives, and what it sounds like to me is that kuzy really wanted that change of scenery as soon as possible. putting him on waivers is the fastest way to make that happen.
trades can take time to put together, especially if they've been shopping him for a while and nothing has worked out. waivers mean another team can claim him while giving up nothing, or if no one claims him, there's a spot for him in hershey. (and if he doesn't want to go to hershey — which is ftr one of the bests spot to be in the ahl. their facilities are better than some nhl teams' facilities — he has the option not to report, which would probably mean suspending his contract, which could get messy, but the caps could also agree to loan him elsewhere.)
this is clearly not a move that the caps made lightly. they are, like all teams, imperfect at player management, but they also are, at the very least, pretty damn loyal to that remaining core of 2018 players. they know how caps fans feel about kuzy. maclellan has said they're willing to retain some of his salary as part of a deal to move him; he has said he can see a scenario where he comes back to the capitals once he gets himself sorted out. but kuzy has made it very clear that he does not feel like he is mentally or emotionally able to do that sorting out in washington. i don't think that necessarily is a knock against the caps. sometimes when you hit rock bottom you really do just need a change of scenery to be able to heal.
anyway. i'm sad about it, because it's sad, but i also feel complicated about it, because people are complicated, and it's a complicated situation. but above all i am rooting for kuzy, and i really hope this helps him find a place where he can get that fresh start.

On November 22, 2022, Donald Trump sparked widespread outrage when he had dinner with Ye (formerly known as Kanye) and well-known white nationalist Nick Fuentes at his Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump’s dinner with Ye would have been problematic enough, given Ye’s recent notoriety for making antisemitic comments, and the addition of Fuentes, who Trump claimed was uninvited and unknown to him before the meeting, raises further concerns.
CREW has requested records from DHS related to the presence of Fuentes at the dinner, such as guest lists and rapid response to his arrival and attendance.
The records may shed light as to how the former president ended up dining with a well-known white nationalist, and how the publicly-funded security protection he receives at Mar-a-Lago reacted in real time. A lack of records or failure to have properly vetted and accounted for guests to the former president would also be telling—and a reminder of how great of a national security risk Mar-a-Lago has been in not only the last few months but throughout the Trump presidency as well. Trump is unfortunately no stranger to cozying up to white supremacists and has spewed anti-semetic tropes on his Truth Social social media platform. There has also long been a connection between Trump’s anti-democratic efforts and anti-Semitism, especially as witnessed on January 6th.
As Trump makes another run for office, his every move will appear politically charged, despite intentions, and having dinner with a known white nationalist and anti-semite while taxpayers fund his protection surely sends a dangerous message about his priorities for democracy and signals white supremacists that they are successfully infiltrating the GOP party. The public needs to know the extent of Trump’s complicitness in hosting a white nationalist for dinner at his own property and any government involvement in briefing the former president.

Tbh ppl here are so weird about tiktok users
#like yes tiktok bad and its kind of funny when ppl say things to get around an algorithm that doesn’t exist on here#but ppl being like ‘if youve ever said unalive I never want to talk to you’ need to get some perspective#like… they were on a platform where they had to say that shit sometimes to talk about things#they were the ppl being censored and thats how they got around it#(it wasnt just used for ‘im gonna unalive myself’ jokes ya know? its also used to talk about police killing ppl which tiktok often censors)#(like it was used to talk about important issues to spead information in a way that would get around censorship)#why are you acting like its their fault?? that does absolutely nothing to hurt tiktok?? and you are just kicking someone while they are down#just inform them that they dont have to do that#stop assuming you’re smarter than everyone I promise you are not <3#also anyone saying tiktok doesn’t actually censor things and its just users being dramatic is lying#or is spreading misinfo#cmon ppl use your brains#YouTube has ‘protections’ for users speech that it breaks all the time we know this#it is inconsistent with who it does and does not censor#why would you think tiktok is any different?#of course the Washington post doing a ‘study’ isnt going to get censored because its a well known company#and censoring THEM would be massively reported and make tiktok look bad#not to mention the possibility that it was a mutually beneficial ‘test’#tiktok would get a massive news company ‘disproving’ all the alligations of censorship#which is good for bezos who ownes the WP because people post videos of Amazon’s work place violations that get taken down#and now they’ll look less reliable if they talk about censorship which will then make everything they say seem less reliable

From this weekend~
My parents came to visit and we finished our tour of the National Museum of African American History and Culture!
My dad doesn’t share much about his childhood, but as we toured the museum, he shared anecdotes from his time living in Texarkana with his 7 siblings.
Touring the museum with the knowledge that my father grew up on sharecropping land, riding on the back of my Granny’s cotton bag added a layer of gravity to what I was seeing.
I’m so grateful for all the privilege I have grown up with thanks to my parents’, and their parents’, hard work and perseverance. It means so much to me that I now have the opportunity to take my parents to museums to learn more about their history while they visit.
