Ze conner chaos onc agin its aa uhh part 3?????? whyayayayytryeysyayyeeee

Okay, what happened last blog? Well.....

I raised both Zaidan's and Julien's child except I found out that Julien is a very shit father, Haylee grows up happy and Jase grows up unhappy. Sky fishes for some Angelfish whilst Zaidan reaches Level 10 in Gourmet Cooking and whilst Sky gets a new job as an Astronaut and goes into the Interstellar Smuggler branch, we get some Ambrosia, revive Lucas who was previously fucking died. Julien keeps pissing on my fucking living room floor, Haylee got aged up into a teen, Jase is now a child (I aged him up after last chaos blog). Haylee almost died, Lucas almost died again.

Okay, caught up? Good. Now, in this blog is going to be TWICE the chaos, because the previous chaos blog I couldn't post for a week, but I had already done it and couldn't be bothered to update it, so instead, all of its gonna go here!!!!!!

Now be prepared, because I don't know if next week's chaos blog will top this one off....

First week...

After one too many times of Vito possessing Dumbass's gay hearts, I move him back into the household and whip him up a plate of Ambrosia, half as punishment, half because it felt a bit lonely.

Vito lasted.... Surprisingly well, but, well. this sentence is in past tence for a reason....

I also now age up Jase unto a teenager somewhere in this time, I think? i uh idontreemmber

Sky gets to the top of his career and is now constantly on the run from the Space Police

And, on the Saturday after I posted last blog, I had acquired MC Command Center, meaning LARGER HOUSEHOLD WOOOOOOO!!!!-

Well, I had made it larger as a joke, but someone saw it as a grand opportunity to... well.....

So zaidan, in record time. Gets abducted, impregnated and gives birth. All in the matter of one real-life hour after raising the household cap.

(Also, the way I found out zaidan ws pregnant was so fucking hilarious, I was recording him and possessed Sky having the most fucking terrifying dinner date(?) I've never seen a possessed sim eating a bowl of chili whilst looking totally in love with someone, meanwhile the other sim is so completely fucking confused. And then he did the pregnant animation and i freaked the fuck out)

Meanwhile Sky had his own child, well, Creation. Sky finally build a motherfucking servoooooo woooooo- whom upon entering my household, was assigned traits that practically made Sky the creator of a sociopathic robot I am not joking its the traits I have in my mods pls do-

but don't get too attached because,

One quick change later and Zaidan giving birth, I found out the hard way that I cannot edit my sims normally in a 9 sim household and have to go into the MC Menu and go into CAS from there, because Sky's servo swiftly evaporates from the gace of the earth, never to be seen again.

Zaidan's 5th chikd, Kurtz, grows up to be happy a conspiracy theorist and a pain in the fucking ass, just like his step-father, Dumbass

(Furute me here realising I forgot to mention the 4th, Luz, she's got a mohawk, she's an overachiver, she's a badass lesbian, okay moving on)

Speaking of pain in the asses, Vito gets stuck in a wall, in which case I use this comment to capture some of the most unflattering picture of a sim out there

And speaking of pain in the asses aga- yeah zaidan got pregnant again.... This is his 6th..... This one I named Rez, now this time Dumbass and Zaidan was raising Rez (Which Luz was not happy about as a child)

Thats all of week 1.... Now its on to the real chaos.... the we

Week 2

Week 2, I panic, realising I can't age up my werewolves, Haylee and Lucas up. Why? Because some stupid fucking idiot made them both immortal (me)

So after swiftly resetting and redoing all my werewolves perks (Thank MCCC that MC Command Center has that otherwise I'd of been fucked), I finally age up Haylee and Lucas, who both do not have a job still as I'm writing this.

Meanwhile, Sky has finally finished the Nerd Brain aspiration, meaning he can now Insta-Repair which honestly does fuck all AND INSTA-UPGRADE WOOOOO!!!!- So Sky's been upgrading everything, the stove, the fridge that keeps breaking, the toilets...

And that's when it all went wrong.

As per usual, Zaidan getting abducted, dumbass getting abducted,

Lucas are you sat in your sister's bedroom naked..?

Julien stop pissing on my living room flo-

Al the sudden, one of the toilets in the basement set fire to one of Zaidan's daughters, Luz. I'm panicking, thinking it was that bastard ghost who, idfk fucking planted a grenade in the fucking toilet bowl. I quickly get that sorted out, but I didn't know the true reason.

By now I've finally aged Kurtz into a child, yes it took this long....

But then, Zaidan bursts into flames, where? In the bathroom, it's now the first floor toilet, I'm panicking again, dumbass is there fucking celebrating meanwhile I'm screaming watching the firefighters tumble down through

Meanwhile, Zaidan:

A, Dosnt give 2 flying fucks.

B, stands there and does absolutely nothing

And C, Goes so feral that his eyes go red because he's tense and makes me giggle tf out.

oh and also D, grants me one of the best pictures I've had in ages

I also now have a video of dumbass casually wafting the air like it smells like shit as Lucas is screaming bloody murder beside him pointing at the fire right in front of them.

Ten seconds after that

NOW the UPSTAIRS toilet is on fire, and then another... and then another... and anothe- and zaidans getting fucking abducted again... and another

And then, the first death in a long while. Jase Conner, whom died not only by the toilet's murderous flames, but also by Lucas, who proceeded to only extinguish the fire after he had collapsed on the floor and died.

Considering Jase and Lucas were enemies before, I think Lucas had some intentions...

After which Dumbass and DEATH HIMSELF become BEST FRIENDS FOREVER????

And then, we have our second death, which came a little while after Jase's. Rez, who was still only a child, also died to toilet fire, because when I got him to extinguish himself in the shower, he glitched and stayed on fire, yet everyone else couldn't extinguish him because the game registered him as not on fire. And so, Rez dies to a glitch in the system....

AND THEN, FUCKING JULIEN AND LUCAS GET FUCKING ABDUCTED?

can you, can you guess what happened? I bet you can't, you will never guess, literally never guess, it is impossible to guess, can you guess it? Can you? Can you? Can you guess?

I decided to keep only Lucas', who's named Kamila, because I don't trust julien anymore and I do not have the strength to take care of 2 toddlers.

I also, most recently, moved Rez's ghost back into the household.

And I leave off here. The household being Sky, Zaidan, Julien, Haylee, Lucas, Luz, Jurtz, Jase, Rez's Ghost and Kamila, a 10 sim household on it really ever dying, unless there's a really bad toilet fire that happens

OC Story: Friends & Family

(I’m a sucker for found families. Also BATCH 2 BONDING WOOOOOOO)

(TW: Mentions of Death)

Mercy and Geno found themselves hanging out with group 2-4 very often ever since they joined Arcana Academy.

Sure, both of them already had 10 other close friends from the group they were assigned to join when they enrolled, but the more the merrier after all.

Nova & Ro had similar senses of humour & morals to them, and they usually went on double dates with them during the weekends,

Dylan & Kai were sympathetic, since they also had little to no knowledge of the middle grounds, or as they called it; the surface,

Parker had a lot of wisdom to offer, and basically held the whole group together as their leader,

Brio & Orion had archives worth of history & geography stored within their minds, which they gladly told to the both of them, fully confirming that the war between Angels and Demons ended centuries ago once the two races made a peace treaty.

And Edan & Skadi similarly told stories of fascinating and unique creatures alongside those who’ve come across them.

They were all currently hanging out in 2-4’s dorm floor, having just spent 2 hours visiting and buying a multitude of items from Arcana City’s shopping district.

“So how’s everyone else doing?” Parker asked.

Geno responded, “There doing alright for the most part. But, they’ve definitely changed after what happened in the caverns; Lance & Aaron have been clinging to each other more than usual, and the same thing’s true with Zac and Kumiho, Jadeyn’s still mostly secluding themselves in their room, but they’ve only been coming out their room to get food & do some other thing they won’t tell us about, Iris & Macy are mostly fine, but they’re definetly worried over everyone, Marcus & Liam have been having trouble sleeping for the past couple of days, and C’s still unconscious.”

Orion sighed, “I could see where those two are coming from. Getting attacked by an Entity and even dying to them’s definitely something that’ll stick with you. Brio & I have personally been attacked by a bunch of them months prior to arriving to Arcana City, and we still get nightmares of it from time to time.”

“They were pretty easy to defeat, but there were a LOT of them. We were in a village when they attacked us, and there weren’t much people in it that had experience in combat.” Brio said.

Lilith responded to what the two of them said, “Gee, you guys have gone through absolute shit. I mean, I’ve nearly died in the past too, but I rarely think about that.”

“Yeah, I personally don’t like staying in the past since I don’t like to remember some… things, but there are some memories that I cherish a lot, like meeting Lilith!” Clover added on to Lilith’s reply.

Nova’s face saddened over everything that was said, “It’s hard to believe you guys’ve gone through shit. None of you genuinely deserve to gone through hell.”

“I agree with Nova, we’re all still young. And death is not something all of us should have to worry about even considering all the dangerous shit that surrounds us. Don’t you two agree?” As Ro said that, she turned to Mercy & Geno.

Mercy replied, “Yeah, but neither of us really know about whatever the other went through besides Marcus & Liam’s reincarnation. Except Iris & Macy, they’ve had a chill upbringing from what we’ve seen.”

“Yeah, and even though they told us about that, they rarely bring it up. They’re glad that they got a second chance with being reborn, but they clearly didn’t want anyone else to know since they’re worried about how people would think about them. It’s kinda like how Mercy & I don’t really like bringing up our families since we left home.”

Kai lightened up the mood by replying to Geno, “Well, your birth families might’ve been bad for the most part, but you have us and the rest of 2-7 as a new one!”

Dylan smiled as he heard what Kai said, “Yeah, you have the 21 of us a family you two. Jury’s still out on whose might be the patriarch.”

“Y’know, even if he’s gone through shit, but Marcus still puts a hell of a fight. Same thing with Liam considering the fact that he pulled out his spear to join in on me & Marcus’ fight before SOMEONE broke it off.” Edan glared daggers at Parker as he said that.”

They quickly replied as Edan stared at them, “Ok y’know what I do not want to verbally kick your ass again over this. You guys are gonna have a rematch once C wakes up & we talk more about what happened in the caverns. Skadi’s gonna be supporting you by fighting alongside you this time anyways.”

Skadi chuckled, “It’ll be fun! We’ve rarely gotten chances to fight side-by-side anyways.”

Hearing them all talk about everything in a positive & optimistic way makes Mercy & Geno smile over where they both are right now.

Leaving their respective “homes” brought them to an even better one in the end.

Who wants to read an entire fucking essay I’ve been writing over the last few months it’s about viddy games wooooooo

Video Games's Popularity

16% of entertainment hours in 2018 were spent playing video games, according to a study by The NPD Group, an American market research company (Stych). Video games have become more and more popular as they have become easier and easier to access through consoles, computers, tablets, and phones. Video games and gaming have become some of the most popular topics to watch on youtube, twitch, and other platforms, which is shown by the fact that youtube has a trending section just for video game content. I myself watch video game content whenever I get the chance. Merriam Webster defines video games as "an electronic game in which players control images on a video screen." If you use that definition for video games, it means gaming is a lot more widespread and prevalent than you'd first think. It would be a struggle to find anyone below the age of twenty who's never played a video game in some form. There are thousands of people in online communities who discuss video games and the people who play them, on sites like Reddit, Twitch, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, and more. Video game music, posters, clothing, and general merchandise is popular and lucrative for the companies that make and sell the products. People continue to invest their time, money, and energy into playing and enjoying video games. Video games are such a big part of the online community and my life that I decided to take this opportunity to learn more about them.

While researching this paper, I found different types of sources than I was expecting. Many articles on video games are outdated, poorly written, or simply didn't contain much information. Most possible sources were game reviews, tabloid-esque gossip, or talked about events occurring recently in the gaming community. These weren't very helpful for the type of topics I wanted to discuss. When I set out to write this, I expected to find more analyses of video games or game genres as a whole, or perhaps more in-depth writing. Although I did find articles that were in-depth, they were often very niche, scholarly, or outdated. Video games as a culture moves indescribably quickly, with new games always being released. The vast amount of content and places to share said content on the internet makes video games so widespread, it's near impossible to categorize and talk about video games a whole, rather than individual games or franchises. I suppose that's why there are so many game reviews. People are always looking for new games to play, new content to view. I did my best to find articles and sources I could use to talk about video games a whole, as a culture, and as a complex and nuanced form of entertainment. Part of my own interest in video games is due to the large variety of games and game content available. I would consider myself fairly knowledgeable about video games, especially after researching this essay. But I don't know much about games as a whole, or why people play them. As much as I love to talk about and watch video games, I don't play them often myself. I wanted to know what made other people love playing video games so much. Both my brothers are very engrossed in their respective games and consoles, and I found myself wondering what compels them to put their time and energy into something that doesn't give me that same satisfaction. Which begs the question, why do people play video games? What keeps them coming back? What makes video games so enjoyable?

I started by looking in the school databases, and on credible sites like the Washington Post and the New York Times. Video games is such a broad topic, but many articles focused on specific games or events. While I researched, I wondered what is so compelling about video games. I had some hypotheses. Video games often have a plot, a list of tasks to complete, or some sort of storyline. I found an article about the stories and plotlines of first-person shooter games, one of the most popular genres of games. In the article, David M. Leeson explains what differs between a multiplayer and a single-player shooter: "Most multiplayer shooters are gameplay-driven: play sessions consist of one or more matches, in which players compete with each other (either individually or as teams) to win the game, either by scoring points or capturing objectives. Most single-player shooters, by contrast, are story-driven: play sessions consist of one or more levels, in which the player is told the story so far and then must overcome a series of obstacles to find out what happens next." Already this provides some insight into what compels people to play video games. Multiplayer shooters, such as Fortnite, some Call of Duty games, Battlefield games, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, depend on other players to keep you interested. Winning a match is the main objective. In single-player games, the goal isn't to win a round, it's to complete the story. In a way, this makes a single-player shooter similar to a book or a movie. The difference between them is that the player takes an active part in moving the plotline forward, which keeps the player interested and motivated to find out what happens next.

A storyline isn't the only thing that can be necessary to keep a player motivated. The gameplay plays a big role in keeping the player interested in continuing the game. Games have two main parts, speed and strategy. Speed-based games rely on fast reflexes, immediate feedback, and quick thinking to be enjoyable. Games like these require you to be in the moment the whole time, ready to react to whatever is thrown at you. Games that are more speed-based include titles such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and endless runner games such as Temple Run or Subway Surfers. Despite being very different games in style, aesthetic, plot, and goals, these all rely on speed as a main mechanic. Another aspect of games is strategy. Strategy-based games take a slower route, and are more based on planning and thinking before you act. Strategy games often have some sort of back-and-forth mechanic between the player and some sort of other entity, usually a non-player character (npc) or the game itself. This includes games such as battling games such as Pokemon, storyline games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, and many mobile games. Strategy games require the player to think about what they want to do before they do it, and often have multiple storylines or options for how to play the game or what to do when. All games have elements of both strategy and speed, but usually one takes precedence over the other. Each category of game has its pros and cons and its own problems.

There are a few problems with speed-based games that the developers must remedy for the game to be enjoyable. Firstly, games with speed-based mechanics are often very easy to pick up and learn. Many Super Smash Bros. players will mash buttons or spam attacks rather than use combination attacks or the full variety of moves available. Speed-based games must introduce a learning curve for players to learn new skills, become better at the skills they already have, and some sort of challenge that requires those skills to be used. Another problem with speed-based games is the lack of variety. One character with only one set of moves can quickly become boring to play. Most games don't have this problem, with many games having multiple characters. Breath of the Wild, however, only has one playable character, Link. Nintendo keeps BotW from becoming boring by having Link have many weapons and clothing to collect and choose from to use, food items to temporarily boost stats, and a way to upgrade Link's health points as the game grows more difficult. Many endless runner games (i.e. Subway Surfers or Temple Run) lack this attribute, which causes players to become bored of them after playing for a while. While they may include customizable or lots of character choices, the changes are purely cosmetic and don't impact the gameplay.

Strategy games have issues as well, most notably those to do with speed. Strategy games often have a slower pace, and making the pace too slow can cause players to become bored. This was an issue with the role-playing game Final Fantasy VII, a 1997 turn-based rpg by Square Enix. Final Fantasy VII is set to have a remake by Square Enix, the first part of which was released on April 10, 2020. An article I discovered addressed some flaws in the original game as well as what the remake should have to make the game better. The article reads: "Modern releases of Final Fantasy VII include an option to speed up combat by a factor of three, and after turning it on, you quickly learn that you almost never need to turn it off to more carefully manage the flow of battle, such is the monotony of just attacking and healing over and over. This speed boost is greeted by latter-day players as a crucial "quality of life" improvement. It doesn't matter how many oakleaves you've acquired in 22 years; when letting the player essentially skip the gameplay is treated as a godsend, you don't have a very good game." (Vogt) As said in the quote, the ability to speed up gameplay shouldn't be necessary. The gameplay is also described as monotonous. Games must be interesting to keep players motivated to continue playing. Keeping players interested in the game is a big part of video game making.

Game designers and developers must put player enjoyment first when making a game. Even if the ultimate goal is to make money or gain popularity in the community, player enjoyment is what leads to a game's success. If a player isn't having fun playing a game, they won't recommend it to others, or join an online community about it, or even continue playing it. For this reason, I decided to find information about the process of game design and development, where ideas came from, and how enjoyment of the game came into the mix. I found an academic study of a game jam in 2013. A game jam is an event where multiple groups of game makers come together to make games in an allotted time using a given prompt. The study discusses multiple aspects of the game jam, including initial ideas, prototyping, and game development and testing, the latter of which is shown in the quote here: "Participants [in the game jam] removed systems within the game (e.g. attacks requiring combinations of buttons rather than single buttons) or reduced the total number of components used (e.g. fewer game levels or types of enemies). Swapping mechanics occurred when already implemented systems were buggy or dysfunctional or when playtesting (personally or with others) showed them to be overly complex or unintuitive." (Zook) This quote shows how game developers must think about how the players will interact with mechanics, especially mechanics they aren't used to. Mechanics are how you do things in the game, whether it be with certain buttons, an item, movement, interaction with the environment, or a combination of these. Mechanics must be easy to pick up on and learn for beginning players, but difficult to master so as to keep players entertained. The quote shows how initially complex mechanisms such as button combinations or buggy systems can be unintuitive for the players, and therefore need to be fixed. If a player has difficulties with the game's function, it won't be fun to play. Games must be fun if they want to keep players interested.

For this paper, I interviewed one of my friend's younger brothers, an avid player of video games. Ian plays video games for a few hours every day, he says, on xbox, nintendo switch, and mobile devices. In the interview, he says that what he thinks makes video games enjoyable is having fun. Although he plays video games more suited to younger users, there were a few things he had to say about games he disliked. The main things he didn't like about games were the difficulty (too hard, too easy) bad graphics, or he "wasn't as interested as he thought he was." His viewpoint as someone who plays a lot of video games is very useful for the question I'm asking. Difficulty of games is something that is hard to balance for game developers. As discussed earlier, the mechanics must be intuitive so the player can pick up on them easily. However, if the entire game is easy, the player will get bored, just like Ian did.

"What makes video games enjoyable?" is the question I've tried to answer. So, what does make video games enjoyable? I'd say it's a variety of things. Video games are so complex, and what makes them entertaining is even more complex. There's such a huge variety of video games available to play, on dozens of platforms and consoles, and in many different ways. Expecting to find just one answer for such a broad question would be unjustifiable. So, I've determined a couple things that make video games enjoyable. As Ian said, games should be fun. Fun means different things to each person, so different games will be better for different people. Different difficulties and styles of games will be different for different people. A more casual game style, like mobile games or kid's games, might be more enjoyable for a gamer like Ian. However, strategy based games such as Pokemon, Assassin's Creed, or shooting games such as CS:GO might be more suited to older players. In short, what makes video games enjoyable is the variety of games there are to play. Games are for everyone, and each type of video game has people who enjoy it, and people who don't. There is no one clear answer to this question. Unfortunately, this means that if I want to be more involved in playing video games, I'm going to have to try some games and find out what I like. If you're interested in video games, I suggest you do the same.

So, fun fact about me, I actually worked in Japan for three years as a junior high school English teacher. I worked at 10 different schools in the same city, 11 in total because I repeated one. New for this story's end notes...Fun Facts about Japan!

Students in junior high have two uniforms. (Don't know about high school.) The more formal one we see in anime/manga a lot and a PE uniform. In anime, the students are usually shown in the formal one, but most of the time they wear the PE uniform during school hours unless it's a special occasion like Parents Day, Chorus Festival, or Graduation. They wear the formal uniform over their PE one going to and from school. Which sucks in summer because Japan is humid. Thankfully they have a summer and winter version for both uniforms.

Most junior high schools do not have AC or heating in the classrooms. Relying on fans during summer and electric or gas heaters during winter. In winter, students are allowed to wear extra layers as long as they are covered up by their uniforms.

Got my days wrong and ended up alone in a room with my boss and the President of Ireland while I was on ketamine.

Right, this was when I was eighteen so don't judge me too harshly. Or if you think drugs are cool and I'm a legend, fill your boots. Anyway, at the time I was working through college in Dublin with bar shifts at [redacted] music venue.

One day I get a call on my day off. Way the gig worked, you'd either get Fri or Sat off. This week it was Fri, happy days. My manager, let's call her Dympna, pipes up on the phone: "So, when you come in this evening, just a few things to remember". I'm like, hold on Dympz, I'm off this eve, jog on. She corrects me. "Remember I said you could get all of Saturday off if you just worked 2 hours tonight?".

And of course THEN, I did suddenly remember, she'd said it to me as I was leaving the building and my conscious work brain was doing somersaults to get out of the place. She could have told me I was to have my foreskin tattooed with a harpoon and I would have given her a smile, thumbs up, and a flurry of yeps to get out of the place. I was eighteen. On minimum wage, and - bear in mind this is really saying something - my absolute minimum effort. So, I'm bang to rights and I say "yeaaah, of course, sorry just got my days mixed up, I'll be there no problem" and she says, "this evening will be fine, just the head of the [redacted] and some VIPs, few hours then you can take off".

All good. Except for the one thing. At that very moment, I was in a mate's house on Dame St, relaxing with (I thought) nothing to do for the evening.

Now you have to remember that, before dabbing and fortnite, kids used "drugs" to get high and I was, occasionally, adjacent to them. I was a fairly sheltered kid before college, and didn't even drink til I was well into my late teens, never smoked even. I was very green.

So too, coincidentally, was the homebrew ketamine that said pal was making IN HIS OVEN when I arrived. My pal had gotten it in liquid form and, for some reason, it had been dyed green - he has subsequently told me he thought it was a St Patrick's Day promotion, and I've always thought it a charming entrepreneurial flourish on the part of his enterprising ketamine wholesaler. (Ketamine wholesalers are often vets, and the stuff originally for cats. People always say horse tranquiliser, either to make it sound more sordid or more badass, but ketamine is used on many animals, and vets have more use for cat tranqs than horses. Not quite as sexy is it?)

Anyway, for want of a better idea, I took him up on his offer of a line of this thick, vaguely slightly clumpy bright green powder, knowing I had nothing else to do for the evening. Felt nothing. Had a tiny further bump 10 mins later. It was at this point that my phone rang.

FLASHBACK ENDS, WE'RE BACK IN THE ROOM. So I'm definitely sweating after the call, not like instant come-up, more worried ABOUT the come-up. Never done this in my life, I've no idea how it's going to feel. But, absent any other idea, I get my stuff together and head to work.

On way to work, starts kicking in. You know when the roof of your mouth starts politely folding your brain in half, and your chest flutters like a cathedral filled with bees? I was holding it together but knew if I stopped concentrating for one second, I would become time itself.

By the time I reach work (twenty mins later) I am sweating like microwaved bread, eyes on hinges, convinced my fingernails owe me money. I have an overwelming urge to yawn, just to get the memories out WHEN in comes Dympna with the rota for the evening.

D: Thanks again, know it's short- oh, you look a bit hot and bothered, did you run here ha?"

Me: Hmnnnnnyes, I did - the dids is"

D: OK, just you tonight and the top man, he's showing the President what's going on for the next while"

[one beat]

Me: Sorr din you sez de presddyen?" D: Yes, Mary McAleese is in to see this season's programme of events.

Me: Hmmnggg

D: All you need to do is stand in the corner and offer them drinks every fifteen minutes.

Me: Ahhh yesssshnshh

D: Maybe have a wash beforehand So the gig is this: Mary McAleese (the *original* MMA) was to go round this room upstairs which had upcoming acts for the season illustrated with photographs and programme notes. The director of [redacted] would walk her around and say "fricken great, Madge innit?" or whatever.

My role is pretty weird, I have to stand in the corner and then every 15 mins, INTERRUPT this live-wire pair to offer them drinks, which protocol dictates they must refuse. I have barely processed any of this before I'm grabbing a tray and heading upstairs.

The tray, btw, contains a white wine, a red wine, a G&T, a whiskey, a rum and coke and some mineral waters. Always found that mix weird. Imagine the President of Ireland seeing the rum and coke and going "oooooh nice one, ta - now tell me about this Latvian choir again".

Right now I can hold it together when stimulated, when the adrenaline and fear is keeping me just ticking over - I'm weird but with it.

Problem is, my job is now to stand silent and motionless in a room on my own until the President of Ireland arrives. Time passes on my own. Empires crumble and glaciers dissolve, stars die and oceans melt, out on the dusty planes of mother earth, hot bursts of young love gift the miracle of life; children are born, raised, stricken infirm and die of old age.

And then Mary McAleese walks in. By now, having been alone with my thoughts for the entire Cretaceous period, I am no longer mildly weird but deeply, extravagantly deranged. As the President of Ireland walks in, with my boss's boss's boss's boss, my first impulse is to greet them like I own the place. It would be rude, surely, to not acknowledge their presence? Out of order even. Best thing to do would obviously be to say "hello guys" like it's my home and I live there, in this big white room, where I stand in the corner, alone, holding a tray of drinks, like you do, at home.

Me: hello guys HELLO GUYS

Anyway, by the divine grace of the infant Christ, they somehow do not hear me say this, and begin their itinerary round the room. I clench my entire head and focus on not shouting across the room to let them know that they should always feel at home here in this room of ours.

I become extremely aware of my hands, and how I haven't felt them in a very long time. They're detuned to static , which would be worrying even if they weren't holding a tray of drinks filled with noise and judgement. I hold no faith or creed other than "do not drop these plz".

Just when dropping everything seems to become less urgent, I realise it's time to go over and offer these motherfuckers some fucken drinks, let's get this party started wooooooo I begin walking over to them and I move so abruptly that the glasses clink and they turn to look at me.

I did this too fast.

Now I'm thinking wooooah slow down there martina hingis, so I self-correct to a much slower speed. Watching my breath, nice and casual, you got this buddy. Guys. GUYS. Now, I'm moving far too slow. I started at this speed and I'm to embarassed to change and now it's gonna take me like 5 mins to cross the room. They are watching me, frowning and sweaty, traversing the 5 foot between us like it's a wooden plank on the Crystal Maze. I'm moving so slow my legs are cramping. I think they're wondering why it's taking me so long. It's way harder than walking at normal speed. I'm shaking so the drinks are making noise again. For what feels like minutes.

Anyway, I offer them the drinks and they say no. Do this another two times - how long was this presentation anyway, is this what the President does all day? Give her a brochure and a carryout ffs - and they say no.

By the end, I've calmed down a bit in physical side (sweating, shaking) but I still feel completely batshit. At one point I clearly remember believing that my mind had escaped my body and was watching me hold the tray of drinks from the wallspace behind my head. Only out-of-body experience I've ever had.

At the very end, they do accept a drink. It was at this point she spoke to me. Just some inane pleasantries, to which I reply with some off-the-hook pablum about work and college, at which point she says;

"Oh, is that a Northern accent I detect?"

Dawgs, you know I'm down for the Nordie solidarity vibe, but this is the last thing I need right now. "Yeeerrrsh" I say, with a goalkeeper's glove in my mouth. She starts talking about her experience coming down to study here, how it can be a real scenic change, but the making of you if you keep your eyes open to new experiences.

I can tell she definitely means green ketamine. She's a lovely woman, and very open and generous with her time, giving me ample space to answer her questions which I mostly do with sheepish, one-or-two-word answers. Finally, she asks me if Dublin is everything I thought it wou-

Me: YES I LIKE IT I THINK IT'S GOOD

I'd been paying such fierce attention, I'd mis-timed my reply AND badly modulated my volume. She actually recoiled a little. I think the head of the venue actually stepped back and said "jesus!". Mary McAleese flinched for what seemed like half a second, then flashed her best your-mum's-sound-mate smile and replaced her white wine on my tray.

The boss man nodded at me, they walked out of the room and I waited a few seconds before making my way downstairs to the kitchen. So at this point I'm thinking, wellll, I'm definitely fired but this will one day make a great story on an Nazi-riddled microblogging platform.

I make my way to the staff area, wipe my sopping face and check my phone. I had only been in the room for 35 minutes. Dympna pads in all smiles, thanking me for my help at short notice. She sees that I'm a bit freaked and says, almost with a wink, "you could have told me you'd be like this, by the way" I'm thinking, of course, Dympna gets what's up, it's the service industry, people mistime their vibes, I bet this isn't the first time she's seen some-

"I had no idea you were such a huge fan of Mary McAleese"

I'm sorry what again was that did you mean The boss man had indeed related the events upstairs to Dympna, but rather than a frightened waif hepped up on cat tranqs, he'd seen a political nerd deeply, irretrievably starstruck by contact with the 8th President of the Irish Republic, Mary McAleese. Presumably a political nerd with a gland problem, and low-grade artritis in both legs, and a tendency to welcome people into their workspaces, but a political nerd all the same.

Me: Oh, yeah well, you know, it's embarassing. She's, just amazing.

And you know what, she kinda is. She was always very nice to me each of the subsequent times we met - me doling out the drinks, her asking me how Dublin was getting on, all the while the other staff eyeing me to see how I was dealing with such close contact with my hero. I'd gurn and fret, play up to it when she'd be coming in, "oh what am I like". I'd bat away suggestions I fancied her from the more ribald members of the changing room, and laugh along with the usual jibes, safe in the knowledge my nerdy affect had saved my bacon.

So take ketamine at work, it's great.

Ranking of the Assassin’s Creed main games

A personal ranking of the main story games of the Assassin’s Creed series. I will be putting ten eleven twelve spots, as there are ten eleven twelve games (one being released soon), and I will just leave the spots open and move them around as I play the games. Please note that I strive to get 100% synchronization so any optional stuff that isn’t necessary does affect my opinion.

12 - Assassin’s Creed: Unity - This game took the longest for me to complete. Literal years to finish. I can’t even remember when I started playing this game (I’m guessing somewhere around late 2017 or early 2018, since I finished III in 2017 and finished Rogue not too long after that) but I had about 70% already done when I picked it back up these last couple weeks and powered through it as much as possible. What really ruined the game experience was the co op missions. I’m shite at the games, so I’m not going to actually try to play with other people. Soloing each of those three times to get all the armor was a nightmare. I’d much rather play the first game again because at least its shorter than this one. The controls are a bit buggy and because the free run system changed, I definitely had a hard time adjusting to it. I didn’t have many opinions about the clothes and weapons, and I never even took much of a look at the color options. Overall game time: I actually don’t know. It doesn’t record the time in game like it has in previous games, but it records it through the Ubisoft site, and mine didn’t sync up I guess. I’m assuming it has a similar game time at Black Flag, so maybe around 60-70 hours? It’s hard to tell because I’ve been playing it off and on for like 2-ish years with loooong breaks in between.

11 - Assassin’s Creed - Fuck this game and its monotonous game play. Fuck its collectibles and not being able to ride horses ANYWHERE. Couldn’t ride my horse in the open fuckin fields or I’d get chased by guards. God dammit I hate this game so much. I hated it so much, I had to take a year break halfway through the game. I hated it that much. Altair is the blandest character in this series and yet they don’t let go of him until Revelations. Even then, there’s still some stuff about him in later games. Altair was a boring character and I didn’t want to hear about him after this game. Overall game time: I don’t fucking know because I can’t find where it would be listed but this game sucks anyway so fuck it. Who cares?

10 - Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey - (This is gonna be long, sorry not sorry.) I played as Kassandra! This game is just a complete monster all on it’s own. I actually made a bullet point list about the things to mention here and I haven’t done that for any of the other games. Major talking points about this game. It’s just too big. The map is too big; there are too many weird, small locations to visit; there are too many tiny fetch quests, too many kill quests. I miss when there was a map with like, maybe 20-40 extra places to visit and some side quests. Most of this game is filler, if you’re trying to 100%. And because the world is just so large, the fast travel points don’t actually help. I could have a quest point that is a minimum of 500m from any kind of fast travel point. That’s not really any help. Along with the large map, some exploratory areas are just too big. The forts are a regularly occurring type of location in the game. These tend to be huge with something like 20-40 bad guys in them. Every time I happened to come upon these, I would groan, save, and then slug through it. Of course, when you have that many baddies, you think it should be easy. But no, it’s just another tedious task because instant assassination is no more! If you happen to do enough damage or the baddie is a low enough level, you can instant assassinate. But if they’re an elite or brute, you’re out of luck. Another major downer for people is the general rpg-like feel of this game. Origins, I think anyway, handled the rpg element much better than Odyssey. Origins gave you an established character, Bayek, and you did not get to change his character in any way. You play as Bayek. Odyssey, however, gives you dialogue and moral choices. They try to give you a half established character and then you take over from there. So you can either try to make decisions you think would align with Kassandra/Alexios, or you can make decisions on your usual play through of an rpg. This was definitely a bad way to handle this game. I think it would’ve been much better if they had given us little to no dialogue/moral choices. Like, for example, for one of the Tales from Greece DLC quests, you help find Barnabas’ daughter. You try to convince her to leave her mother’s farm to join you on your ship with Barnabas. She declines, which is reasonable as she wants to care for her family farm. Weeelllll, with out any kind of input from me, Kassandra burns down the farm and tries to play it off as helping the daughter in the end. I was horrified that the game just did that for me without at least giving me the choice. And these aren’t the only kind of choices that suck. The romance options! They are all basically one time flings that you seduce with a few flirty sentences (what is this, the Sims?) and then they most likely will join your ship. Now it was amusing at first to bang anyone who would let me, but then it got a bit frustrating. Why couldn’t I have a solid relationship? I just wanted to pick someone and date them the whole time and have cute scenes together. Why are they so many women romance options and little men options? I mean, I am a straight woman, but I will romance who I want in games because fuck it, am I right? And the one male romance option I did genuinely enjoy was a bit of a let down, cause it was between two brothers. See, I helped two brothers and I noticed a could romance them both. Now, dummy me I guess, romanced them both and then hoped maybe a little menage a trois would happen. Nooooooo, I couldn’t have both at once, and because I had slept with both of them before at separate times, I couldn’t even get to choose one later! Let me have the threesome cowards. You put statues with dicks everywhere and let me sleep with almost anyone. Give me the threesome. Also, about romancing anyone, did you know you can romance the leader of the big bad at the end of the game?? I sure didn’t until I got to that point. I did it for the shits and giggles but really what reasoning is there behind it? She’s someone who you previously trusted and was previously betrayed by. You never show ANY romantic interest in her before the very end of the game. Like it doesn’t make any sense for them to smooch. Talking about the cult, why are they sooo boring? Except for the few that are integral to the main story line, all the side cult member are boring looking and don’t have interesting reasons for being in the cult. The Order members from Origins were 100x more interesting. They had reasons for being part of The Order. They had interesting character designs. I just wish the cult members had been more like the members in Origins. Uh let’s see more points to hate on the game. I have no idea if this was a problem for other people, but fairly often, characters dialogue would overlap. It didn’t bother me much, as around 100 hrs I started skimming and skipping dialogue. I know this was definitely a problem for others: my game kept freezing and crashing. Comparing my last save time and my time on the Uplay site, I lost about 2 hrs and 20-ish minutes from freezing and crashing. The armor is this game is either subpar or down right ugly. I liked the armor upgrade system in Origins because the armor naturally fit with Bayek and his setting. Where as Kassandra could be running around in Athens wearing Spartan armor because the was made me the most powerful at the time. Now, I realized super late into the game that you could basically change the outlook of your armor to look like any piece you had looted to that point. But, like, why even have the ugly armor to begin with? Ships are a thing. Almost like Black Flag ships, but not quite as good. I’m not sure why they didn’t just recycle the ship system from Black Flag, but they didn’t. The ships feel so much slower and clunkier, and the upgrades start feeling like they do nothing when you get into the higher ones. And in certain parts of the sea, it’s crawling with pirates that aggro you almost immediately. I just wanted to get to that island that was like 1000m away, but I guess I have to battle some pirate ships now. And to finish off for the main game: Layla sucks major ass and I hate her as the modern day protagonist. So, my parents happened to have bought the seasons pass version of Odyssey when they got it for me for Christmas, so that means I got the play some AC DLC for the first time ever! Wooooooo.... yeah I wish this wasn’t the first game I played the DLC for. I’m gonna talk about the Fate of Atlantis DLC first. I didn’t really enjoy this DLC. It starts off with a disturbing scene of Alexios/Kassandra/Deimos torturing a man for information. It made me uncomfortable. I can handle most stuff that make people squeamish, but this one got me, boys. Elysium, which is basically heaven, is very pretty realm and pleases my aesthetic. But, the Isu guards there drain my adrenaline and I am a very heavy user the the adrenaline. About the prettiness of Elysium, Odyssey can be very beautiful. I never did take pictures in Origins, but I did once for funsies in Odyssey, and then I just kept taking more when I thought the scenery was pretty enough. I am pretty proud of some of the photos I took. It’s not much, but one of my pictures got 27 likes! Now back to the Isu! I absolutely adore that fact that all the Isu are taller than Kassandra. Most often, Kassndra is taller than everyone, excepting elites and brutes. But all the Isu were taller than Kassandra and that made me want to fuck them. Ubisoft, stop being cowards and let me fuck the gods, especially Hades because he gives me big MCU Loki vibes and I wanted that, so bad. To get away from fucking Isu gods, Ros, a dog later to be revealed as Cerberus, is Persephone’s dog that wanders around Elysium and I was always delighted to find him hanging out somewhere. I’m pretty sure I even took a “selfie” with him, as much as you can take a selfie in this game. Persephone gave me a real hard moral choice that I did not enjoy making. She made me choose between my grandfather, or a spy I previously helped infiltrate her own army. I did not like making any choice at all. If I could have, I would’ve just booked it and never looked back. I don’t really have much to say about the Underworld. It’s hell. I wanted to fuck Hades bad. That’s about it. I don’t have much to say about Atlantis either exCEPT HOLY SHIT THE FINAL BOSS IS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE I WAS FREAKING OUT THE WHOLE TIME HOLY SHIT. Ahem- anyway the boss was scary and I was having a mental crisis trying to beat it without actually dying in real life from fright. Fate of Atlantis DLC done, woohoo! I don’t have much thought for The Hidden Blade DLC. It was short and sweet. I didn’t mind getting locked into a straight romance and having a child. I’m a straight woman and if a game gives me the choice to marry, have a child, and still be an adventurer, I’m gonna do it. Finished basically all of it in a day and that finished off the whole game. Boy was it a relief to finally beat everything. Overall game time: 133 hours and 45 minutes to beat the main game with one part of The Hidden Blade DLC done, and 167 hours and 55 minutes to beat the DLC, excluding the one part from The Hidden Blade DLC. Now if you count all the time I lost from crashing, it’s 170 hours and 16 minutes.

9 - Assassin’s Creed: Revelations - By this point, I’ve played three of the games in a row and I was very tired of playing Ezio. It doesn’t help that this game is basically II and Brotherhood but with smaller features added. Also, the colors you could dye your clothes SUCKED. Overall game time: 22 hours and 25 minutes. It felt longer than that and I was surprised to see this was the shortest time so far. Thank god though because I did not like this game.

7 - Assassin’s Creed III - Writing this as the credits role. So, heads up, I’ve played this game before so I knew some things that were going to happen, but I forgot most of the game. I’ve read that a lot of people hate this game and I can see why, especially if it’s the first game you play of this series. The game changes quite a bit from the previous games. It has a new free run system, the running is a little more fluid, new weapons, new side missions, etc. I’m giving III a huge bonus for changing the old system in the hopes of something better... it’s not completely better, but better none the less. The downside to all these new things is that they are buggy as hell. The running can be amusing sometimes, but it is a horrible experience if you need to catch someone or stay within a certain distance. The side missions are also super buggy. Many times the icons do not appear on the map (and they tend to be in the areas that the viewpoints do not open up) and just seem not to work entirely right. Currently for one of the delivery requests, I have all the items and I can find the guy I need to turn them into, but can not talk to him for whatever reason. (If you know how to fix this, please tell me because every method I’ve tried hasn’t worked). This may be fixed after the credits, but I think I’m going to have to live with 99% synch and move on to Rogue. To bring up the viewpoint thing again, the viewpoints do not cover the whole map and you manually have to clear up parts of the map, which sucks. Thank god they didn’t do that again. Moving on from game play points, I’ve seen a lot of hate for Connor, which I personally don’t understand. I don’t love Connor, but I like his stoic character who showed moments of true kindness and sadness with friends and family. This review is getting to long now so I’ll just stop here and add more once I complete the game as much as I can. Also, fuck any of the naval stuff. Complete bullshit. Overall game time: First time (2013?) 41 hours and 55 minutes. Second time (2017) 38 hours and 33 minutes.

6 - Assassin’s Creed: Rogue - Well. It took me forever to finish this game, mostly because you can only play so much of the same game. So this game was nice. All of it’s little connections to III, IV and Unity is fun to see and connect the dots. Seeing Shay ultimately shaping what Unity will be was such a great thing to me. This game was such a breath of fresh air. I was sort of dreading having to do anything with ships since III is a disaster and IV had its mistakes, but I was pleasantly surprised. Except for a few ship related missions, you can almost completely avoid sailing. Of course I didn’t because I need to 100% this game. Still pissed I technically didn’t 100% III because of a god damn glitch. Naval related stuff overall was much easier than previous games, including the legendary battles. I took out the first three legendary ships in one try and took down the fourth one on my second try. I had actually planned to use a whole day to beat the legendary ships but I very happy I didn’t have to do that. The game itself is very short, with only six sequences that hold anywhere between two to five memories. That’s the shortest a game has ever been in this series. But they pad the game with millions of locations to explore and millions of collectibles to get. Even though over half of my time spent playing this game was getting collectibles, it was fun. One thing I really enjoyed was Shay’s outfits. This is the first game where I like almost all of the main character’s outfit options. I particularly enjoyed the arctic explorer outfit. I also really liked the Templar outfit you got after defeating the epic legendary ship. This was a good game and in the future, I could consider playing it again, along with II. Overall game time: 31 hours and 55 minutes.

5 - Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood - It wasn’t a super bad game, but it was basically II with some new things and now you’re only stuck in one place. Also guild challenges. Fuck those guild challenges. ALSO. There’s that mission where you get the apple and can lay waste to the guards in your way, but it uses your health to harm them... and the optional objective is don’t lose any health. Fuck you Ubisoft. Or the mission where you destroy Leonardo’s war machines. Those sucked. The only good thing about this game is the colors you can dye your clothes. Those. Those are good. Overall game time: 35 hours and 3 minutes.

4 - Assassin’s Creed: Origins - Took me about a month and a half to complete this game. It’s very different from the previous game titles and I can definitely see why some people wouldn’t like it. I went into it knowing it would be different and I genuinely enjoyed the game. Just as a heads up, I’ve only got 97% synchronization and I’m not totally sure what will get me to 100%. There’s no definitive list of what to do to 100% the game. I’ve read from some people that you need to do all the hippodrome races and arena fights, and I’ve read from others that you don’t. I’m not going to do the races because they’re garbage and not fun. I’ve finished one of the arena’s fights and I just don’t really want to do the other so I think I’m fine sitting at 97%. Now, this game is very different from previous games. Origins is more like an rpg, but not really. There is like, a bunch more exploration areas. Maybe somewhere between 150-300? I’m bad at estimating but it is a lot. There are side quests too. There wasn’t many side quests in previous games, but including the main quests with the side quests, I did a total of 129 quests. There is a lot of gameplay and exploration. Not much of a challenge, though. If you don’t select the auto-level enemies to your level, you reach a point where you’re about 5-10 levels above the area you’re in because all the landmarks and side quests give you xp. At that point, many enemies are 1-3 shots depending on your weapon loadout. There are a couple of locations early in the game that for some reason have higher level enemies than the area calls for. For example, in Alexandria, you should be around level 12-16. Enemies will be around that same level range. Except, there is one location in the middle of Alexandria that has about 5-6 enemies that are above level 20. Now, it’s easy enough to just come back later when you are also that level, but when I was exploring the area, I had no idea they’d be that level and immediately got killed because my weapons did nothing to them. So that wasn’t fun. The game has couple more “challenging” locations if you do them at the right level. Similar to Black Flag and Rogue, Origins has some legendary battles. This time it’s elephants. The are four different elephants, and one them is actually two, like the ship battles from Black Flag and Rogue. The first couple were a bit of a challenge for me because I wasn’t the cap level and I didn’t have a strategy figured out yet. I saved the double elephants for last because I thought they’d be super hard like the double ship battle from Black Flag. However, before I fought them, I reached the level cap, upgraded my best legendary weapons, had a strategy, and also got multiple level points in skills that would boost my bow and arrow and sword damage. The double elephants actually ended up being the easiest at that point. One thing, though, was around 40-ish hours in, my game randomly lost about 7-8 hours of progress. I lost about 3 large map areas of exploration, 6 levels and 10-20 quests. It made me pretty angry and it took me a few extra days to get back to where I was before lost the progress. Aaannyyywaaayy, enough about that. Bayek is a nice character to play as. He is a serious, dedicated, loving man who can have moments of humor. I loved his relationship with his wife Aya, and I was sad to see them mutually decide to break up at the end of the game. They clearly still cared for each other even after deciding that their paths were not going the same way. Sometimes I would have a very similar mind set as Bayek and it would be pretty funny when I would make a comment and then a couple moments later he’d say something along the same line. And, of course, it was interesting to see the origin stories of The Creed of the Assassin’s. I don’t know if I’ll ever actually play this game again but I enjoyed my experience with it. Overall game time: 82 hours and 22 minutes counting the extra time that I had to make up for lost progress and 75 hours not counting the hours I got from making up the lost progress.

3 - Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate - So it’s been about five months since I finished Unity, and I actually beat this game like maybe a week before updating this. I think it’s because the game didn’t have any credits for me? I don’t know why I didn’t have credits, but I just didn’t. Anyway, wow, what a breath of fresh air, after the nightmare that was Unity. This game takes some elements I wasn’t too fond of in the previous game and improves them greatly. The fighting style of wailing on enemies until you get upgrades to one shot is easier to handle. It also looks way more fun. Evie and Jacob just move so fast when they’re throwing punches and shooting people, it doesn’t feel like I’m taking all that long to kill the baddies. The associate quests were fun and simple, they didn’t require much thought or effort. The main game was also on the simpler side compared to previous installments of this game series. Jacob and Evie were fun characters, I never really got tired of them. The main sequence memories were mostly on the short side, so the game felt like it passed in no time. The only long part was getting all the collectibles, which is unavoidable to 100% the game. All the upgrades and weapon choices were fun to choose from, and it was always cool to get a new weapon that drastically did more damage. Having a gang that slowly got better as I upgraded them, and that would back me up in fights was also super fun. There really isn’t anything that should change from this game. If I changed something, it’d probably be the romance between Evie and Henry Green, also named Jayadeep Mir. It felt kind of forced, and really, romances are always boring in Assassin’s Creed. Anyway, fun game, might play again one day. Overall game time: 37 hours and 37 minutes.

2 - Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag - It’s been a couple years since I’ve played this game, so it’s very possible this will bounce around in my list as I play the later games, but I remember enjoying a good part of the game. It was nice to have some variety, especially in the form of PIRATES. Some of my favorite parts were sailing to no where specific and singing shanties with my crew in my suped-up ship. Which brings me to the bad parts of the game; the ship missions. Honestly hated any story/side mission that involved my ship, especially if I had to be sneaky. I’m in a giant ass ship trying to remain in this circle filled with other giant ass ships looking for me. So yeah, fuck that part of the game. But even though it’s been awhile, I remember enjoying this game. Overall game time: 66 hours and 50 minutes.

1 - Assassin’s Creed II - Thank the gods for this game. This is a good goddamn game. Ezio is a fresh breath of air after Altair and being in Italy is honestly great. Upgrading the villa he lives in is great. Leonardo is great. Venice and it’s carnival is great. Only thing that sucked was the Ezio didn’t kill the goddamn Spaniard and then has to chase after him and his offspring in the next game. All in all, my favorite game so far. Overall game time: 28 hours and 37 minutes.

Wooooooo Baby!

Miss Celine is here! She arrived yesterday at 12:34am and is 7lb 12oz and 19.5" of squishy newborn love. ❤ My labour started at about 9pm coming home from a mommy meet and greet hehe. About 9:30 I knew something was up and called the midwife at 9:45. By the time I got there with my dad and sister at about 10:20 oh my goodness things blew up haha. I immediately hopped in the tub and a bit after got some much needed gas and air. By 11:45ish I was actually trying to push her on out! She would have come even sooner than she did had I not had a cervical lip and her face wasn't facing my left. Crazy to think everything could have happened even faster if she'd been in an ideal position. 😂 It was pretty damn intense being short but it was awesome. I got to have the waterbirth I wanted the first time around! The birth centre atmosphere was sooooo relaxed compared to the hospital. It was like birthing in a hotel I swear. After I got all stitched up we were able to go home about 4 hours later since we all were perfectly healthy. I've been getting to relax at home which has been aaaaaawesome. I'm so glad everything has been going sooo so well. ❤

- spend more time on iOS bug in the morning

- quick lunch with the team and mentor to discuss what the bug is

- weekly project sync

- meet with guy who works on iOS framework

- meet with mentor to plan out next week

- implement changes discussed for iOS bug. SUCCESS!!!!!

- melee after work with fiona and john

- chilling at home (netflix, fortnite, linkedin)

today i:

- woke up at 6am. to a fking spam caller. this happened yesterday too, i forgot to mention in yesterday’s blog post

went back to sleep and then woke up to my alarm at 8:15am. i had to go take a dump so i got out of bed pretty early instead of snoozing

- ubered to work. bumped into karl at breakfast so ate some quick breakfast with him

- had a new refreshed mindset to try to tackle this iOS bug. but i first talked to danny about archery from yesterday. and we got onto the topic of his startup journey and it was really cool to hear about. it sounds like he learned a lot and worked so hard through it all, which was amazing

- got working on the bug around 10ish. i’ve basically been working on it since end of tuesday/wednesday... i spent another two hours from 10-11:30am trying to figure this out. but i realized that i was still confused and not making enough progress, so i sent an email to a guy that works on the iOS framework in question for some more help. he responded that we should probably just meet in person since that’d be easier

i set up a meeting and then went off to lunch with danny, john, and some other team members. my mentor stopped by my desk and we headed over to 1000. he wanted to learn more about the bug since i’ve been stuck on it for a few days now. i explained as much as i understood about it to him so that we were both on the same page

- came back around 12:30pm and then went to a weekly sync meeting from 1-1:30pm with my mentor, xueyan and her mentor. got a good sense of what we have left to do

- spent about 20-30 minutes preparing for the meeting with matias so that i know what kind of problems i have/want to convey, and what questions to ask

- went to the meeting with matias and harvy from 3-3:30pm. we stepped through the code and matias explained to me what i was missing/needed to do. we also discovered the bug for success/failure was something inherent to the async API, which was something that was unnoticed before. matias said he would fix that. it was a REAAAAALLY helpful meeting, it helped clarify a lot of things

- went to a meeting with harvy to plan out next week, since it’s 4th of july week, a lot of people will be out of the office. it was a good game plan of what we needed to do in the coming weeks and things that i could get done by next week. that went from 3:45~4:30pm ish

- came back and had to restart my computer for some reason... everything was bugging out. went back downstairs with john to go to happy hour for food while it was rebooting/rebuilding. there was mexican food (tacos). i stuffed my plate with rice, carne asada and chicken, and cheese. a little too much cheese LOL. i felt kind of sick afterwards...

brought it back up to eat and then began work on the bug. matias is really fast and already finished his part of the bug fix. all that was left was me implementing my part from what we discussed in the meeting. i added in his changes and i worked on it for about an hour and a half until 6pm. and... IT WOOOOOORKED. WOOOOOOO!!!

i was so relieved and happy after working on it for several days :)

cleaned up the PR and then pushed it up for review. i think i’ll check it again on monday to make sure everything’s okay and then officially submit it :D

- around 7pm, fiona and i went downstairs to play some melee. john came in to join afterwards and we played until like 9pm.. LOL. we were just chilling. there was a bit of awkwardness in the air.... we just kind of ignored it and focused on smash. i felt bad though cause it’s like... idk it’s complicated but yeah it was just a weird dynamic

- ubered back home and got back around 9:30pm

- watched some youtube and netflix. S5E13 “prince family paper” of the office was pretty wholesome with michael and his internal conflict trying to become a “shark” :’(

played a few games of fortnite but wasn’t really feeling it

i ended up updating my linkedin cause i didn’t know what else to do LOL

Episode #2: I Never Learned How To Fuckin’ Read | Carson Chapman

Honestly Ryan. I expected this scavenger hunt to be a bit harder. No self humiliation or stripping? No needing to go to grocery stores to find things that are clearly not there, but you make us look for and ask employees anyways? Or going up to random people asking them to put on nametags that say Ryan or some other bizarre name? Drew would not be proud.

The Conor vote was an easy thing to get done. It is a blessing to have such an easy vote early on. I need to start being more active and social with the members of my tribe, though. Or else I might be the next boot. I've already set a foundation with Tim, Stephen, and Kaci. I just need to further extend my reach without being too suspicious. I might use Jordan as a number since he has come forward with being one to me. Plus a Pines shield is a nice one to have since he never dies. Everyone always wants him out, so he would be something to hide behind.

Anyway, now that I've yelled, I guess it's time to do a review of everyone on my tribe. Chrissa - Honestly we haven't talked much before this game or in this game. I think we actually got into a fight in the VL once. I used to think Chrissa was just the shipname for Chris and his wife and didn't realize that Chrissa was a real person. Fun fact! Adrian - We were in a BB game together but that's about it. It wasn't very memorable so I doubt they remember me. I should probably talk more to people on this tribe I don't know but we're so early in, it just doesn't seem worth it. Carson - I've played with him before so we have a pretty good relationship even if he spent half of CB calling me weird lmao. I think he would be a good person to ally with but I can never fully trust him because when I did that last time? He had a secret #1 ally the whole time. Lesson learned! Jay - I've known Jay for awhile but we've never really played together so I'm hoping we can in this game. I think it'll be interesting to see if we mesh in a game scenario so - I'm excited. Owen - I'm glad Owen is on my tribe because he seems good at challenges?? Or at least historically he has been. Whew! Antoine - THEY ARE CANADIAN!! honestly I always want to work with the canadians thats my kink. Pocket - I've talked to them a bit and they seem cool?? They at least know how to read a damn post so that puts the +1 above some of the others. Bryan - We've played games together before so they seem like a good bean but again, I don't really know them that well. I NEED to start talking to people more god this is ugly. We love a flop. Andrew - I don't know him but LA says that he's a good bean, he hosted her in Solomon Islands and again in whatever game she just died in. I need to talk to him more. Willow - I love Willow!! She's so sweet and it's kind of hard to talk strategy with her sometimes but ima try anyway!!

Honestly, I just get bored and don't entirely want to talk to some of these people that much, so I just sit here and cry when I have to talk to the likes of Tim and Stephen. I know they're really really cool people, and I like them a lot, but by having never heard of them before, it means that there's this preconceived notion, in my head, that I have to talk to them more, so instead I just dismiss them so they don't see me as a threat, and they can just have the impression that they've 99% got my vote. I'm fine being people's number. Someone just tell me how to vote and I'm more than likely to do it for the first 75% of this game, if I make it to that point. My new strategy is the best of all time. You can't beat it.... Except going off in the main chat about the challenge may not have been my SMARTEST idea, but that's because the challenge was stupid, the new scavenger hunt rules were dumb, and next time I invest four hours into something, and you tell me it doesn't count, don't expect that same motivation level to come out of my body for at least another 3-4 rounds out of shear stubbornness.

Everybody is doing their best to win the challenge and I feel a little bit bad that I'm doing something cause I'm sitting out. Hopefully, it doesn't put a target on my back if we do lose. Right now, I trying to get to know these people more and figure who I want to work with.

I guess I should make a real confessional now. I mean.... We all voted out Conor last round, which was cool. I feel I should initiate a tribe call tonight, with hopefully a win. I don't want to initiate it if we lose tonight's challenge, because then that'd be bad. I'm trying to really think of ways to keep my social game stepped up, and the fact of the matter is that I don't really think I need to do much more, it's such an overthink at this point. I know if my name comes out, I'm going to be able to outtalk a lot of people, and on top of that, I know that LA, Tim, Kaci, Jordan and Carson feel a pretty good relationship with me, and i'd kinda like to think that Stephen does too because I've just been overall active in the main chat, and talking to him a bit on the side. I'm struggling with how to connect to Raffy and JD, and kinda Rob, but not really because Rob seems to be very talkative on my end. I am going back to the thought of Jordan mentioning wanting the strong players to work together, and from the group he listed, that leaves out Kaci, Tim and Stephen, which is interesting because I like them, but they'll also have to go. I'm hoping that Jordan Pines can be the real kicker of strategic talk on this tribe, and we can see what happens. I know whenever I pinpoint targets, I make it my mission to send them out the door, and I know it's dumb to do because some people don't want it to happen, but in a tribe this big, if I talk about it with enough people, then it just happens.... Same thing kinda happened with Ruthie in Japan, where I just saw her as a long term threat, and wanted her gone............................ I'm feeling this way with Raffy. I know it's early, and I know going after him probably isn't the smartest move, but I thought he was just a nutjob from seeing him a little bit of me hosting him in Kuang Si and watching his antics in JP, and all his VL Confessionals of REALLY hustling, it's hard to want to work with him if he's actually that smart, but at the same time, reminds me of a player that is going to do himself in at some point so hmph. We'll see. I still intend on sitting back for now and playing nice, even though I want to give all these people a slow and painful death We'll see what happens after the challenge. If I were to bet, i'd bet that Kaci is going to be in trouble, but I don't wnat her to go, but also.... effort ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The sacrifice was successful. Conor may be gone but we won the next round so yay. But still Kaci didn’t contribute so next tribal she might be in trouble. While we don’t go to tribal I’ll still maintain some social play, but will back off a tad to not seem too eager.

So Ryan reminded everyone about alliance chats and I am *shook*. I’ve been trying to play slow but how slow is too slow? I need to calm down and remind myself that suddenly making alliances is no way to reacting to being excluded for alliances. In this scenario social game trumps strategic game. And so far its working, maybe, Johnny came to me and proposed a f2-but-not-f2 alliance and i was like sure. But he might be lying, I do doubt it though considering we won immunity. Now I just have to decide if I’m going to tell Tim. He’s my mate and I love the guy but I have to decide if I really want to tie my game 100% with his, or keep options he doesn’t know about. Then again talking to him could expose if this is a lie. hmm

So Ryans brief comment about alliance chats has sparked a ton of debate. Ive been approached by Johnny, as I said before. But we have talked about literally everyone else on the tribe, and Ive talked about a few people have JD. Johnny has a lot of knowledge and experience which scares me. But if I can use him to bring myself further then thats good, I can easily paint a target on him when i need to. Still solid with Tim, but Ive decided if people get concerned about our history Im not above voting him out.

AND I THOUGHT TONIGHT WOULD BE QUIET. Honestly, I normally write what happened, and then my thoughts about it, but I'm going to summarize because I just don't have it in me to write 85 million words for you tonight RTP - LA and JD want a four person alliance with Stephen and I, which I find funny because LA wanted this to happen right as I made my ride or die deal with him - Tim told me he thought I was cool, and tried to develop more of a relationship with me - Stephen and I went in depth with the people on our tribe, and we haven't really picked out who we do/don't want to work with, but we're laying as low as we can for as long as we can, and no one is going to know it Yea. that's cool. not as intense as I thought, but making a f2 and being in my first alliance of the season is kind of a big deal I suppose. I gotta REALLY work on my functioning relationship with Carson, because I really really really need Andrew to trust me this game, and I'm not super sure if he will. He knows how I play better than anyone in this cast (besides maybe Willow and Pocket), so I've gotta really maneuver myself carefully there.

.i feel bad now because Adrian's having an emergency ofsome kind and I'm pushing his fucking name. I'm gonna talk to him tomorrow and see his thoughts. Hope he's ok. but other than that... im playing so aggressive what the fuck. i NEVERRR play like this and i literally said I wanted to play UTR because this is Ausvivor and the merge is in like... 8 years, but I'm playing hard! Literally had basically my first REAL conversation with Owen today and it was pretty much ALL Strategy. Antoine wants out Jay. Jay wants out Pocket/Antoine probably because he said no to Adrian. Ideally, Charlotte or Adrian would go, but the push of "newbies" vs Jay is bad because it's people I could potentially trust. Also because im actually saying names is like... im super paranoid that people will be like "oh he's overplaying let's get him out." and just vote me out ughhh. Outcast Island is there though and if I did get voted out, Katie is there and I trust Katie to work with me so IDK, but I don't want to be out. Hopefully strategy will pick up steam tomorrow, and alliances etc will be formed and I can get in a good, longlasting position.

So we won the immunity challenge and I am ecstatic! We don't have to go to tribal and that's amazing. But that doesn't mean that the game stops. We got to go to reward where I and Stephen found absolutely nothing! I started bonding more with Johnny who is a very intimidating player. I'd love to work with him but I'm hesitant that If I do I'll get played. Apparently he has done his research on our tribe members and has his own assessments of each of us. To him I'm naive and doesn't know much but boy is he wrong! I may be new but I've got plenty of game to play, votes to survive, challenges to win, and strategy to form. /// Also JD thinks I'm "social". I dont know what that means but it frightens me! Does that make me a threat? does that make me an ally? Am I gonna go home for being "social"? Who knows? But at this point I'm gonna try and lay low. Until next round? So apparently I'm the name on the chopping block for tonight's Nukuleka tribe. Which is fine, but like half of these people have not interacted with me at all and they want to say that I'm a weak link? Hello, we have fucking Chrissa who really can't do shit other than apply for games and be super shady... like look down the road. We lost because I couldn't take pictures, and that most of them kept a medium-sized advantage for them and gave us large disadvantages. Pathetic really.

We lost the challenge bc of the advantages lmao but!!! I made an alliance with andrew jay Chrissa Carson and pocket oop jdjdjd and since Adrian abstained I think he’s gonna be the vote. I’m glad we won immunity. I don’t think I have the social standing to avoid the target. However, the reward was interesting. I hope no one found anything immediately. That would suck immensely.

adrian's the vote and THANJK GOD. i like adrian, he's okay, but this is SUCH a much better move for me than Jay or Antoine going. adrian isnt reall with anyone, but Jay is with all his friends from pregame, and Antoine is with Pocket/Bryan/Andrew. so this means, i cut out someone who leaves me with 2 people who still trust me.

Also, Owen added me/Pocket/Andrew/Chrissa/Jay/him to an alliance and i'm so happy? my goal for this round was to get in an alliance, and I have close alliances with Pocket and Andrew, mini-duos with pretty much everyone minus Adrian, and now a bigger alliance to help me get through. Willow not being in the alliance is gross though! Hopefully this vote goes well even though I'm stressin a bit.

League Night 8-26-17

Y’all remember the Ric Flair ‘wooooooo’?

I can’t resize that. Holy crap.

Anyways, this split has been crazy and what was even crazier were the Precon decks we all played with this past Saturday. We didn’t alter them in any way, just sleeved them up and played them straight from their packaging. Some people had quick games and some.... not so much.

BREAKDOWN TIME! Let’s GO!

Commanders:

The Pods were ACTUALLY different this time!?!? I don’t know how or what happened, but yay!

POD 1 - Game 1

Tim - Inalla, Archmage Ritualist Dustin - Edgar Markov Billy - The Ur-Dragon

Ok, so... Let me first say that these decks have amazing flavor, great synergy, and the art is flipping fantastic. But if you’re playing dragons, prepare yourself for some mana issues right out the box.

So much so, that for my first league game with the Ur-Dragon I rolled with 3 islands and a Crucible of the Spirit Dragon. THERE’S ONLY THREE ISLANDS IN THE DECK!!!!!

So basically I got to watch the Wizards and the Vampires slap fight it out until the Wizards got a board lock with a Galecaster Colossus. And from there Tim pretty much sealed the win that game and we had no choice but to scoop to the awesome power of Wizards.

POD 2 - Game 1

Kevin - Inalla, Archmage Ritualist Jonathan - Arahbo, Roar of the World Juston - Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder Patrick - The Ur-Dragon

From what I peeked at their game it seemed as if all sorts of things were playing out. Much like my first game with Dragons, Patrick was having mana issues with his as well. Shocker. Juston had nearly decked himself with Yidris, to there point where he had about 20 cards left in his library. Cats, a more 1v1 deck was having a hard time keeping their Lord on the board and although they can burst a person for half their life in one turn, it’s hard to kill the whole table with one creature. Needs more cats! Wizards were doing what wizards do and biding their time. As this game progressed, the guys in the first pod played TWO more games and finished before Pod 2′s game was finally finished.

In the end Dragons died first, followed by kitty cats and then surprisingly, Yidris fell to the awesome might of Wizards. ARE WIZARDS OP!?????

I mean, look at this guy!!! Doesn’t he look OP? The math says maybe.

POD 1 - Game 2

Jonathan - Arahbo, Roar of the World Tim - Inalla, Archmage Ritualist Billy - The Ur-Dragon

This game went a LOT better for Dragons. A lot of gas (not really), but no mana issues! Although I got hit by cats for 20 points of damage in one turn and my Utvara Hellkite and O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami were stolen from me (thanks Wizards!) the card draw and play everything for free effect of the Ur-Dragon was just too strong to keep up with. Lot of triggers in Dragons btw. Ugh.

Cats had to be killed first since they were swinging for 20 points a turn in the late game, then all focus went on wrangling the Wizards and somehow, finally, defeating them!

POD 2 - Game 2

Oh yeah, this is what I wanted to see! One of each Commander deck in a no-holds barred, fang-baring, fire-breathing, cat mewing, spell-fizzling action! Who will come out on top, who will reign supreme, who will...

Who gon win?

Again, Cats are just really not a deck for a 4 player game, it was board wiped too often and really couldn’t keep up. Although the deck is amazing especially once it’s tweaked, it’s just so hard to kill everyone. The mighty Cat warriors fell first in this bout, leaving the other tribes to compete for the title.

Vampires had a huge board at one point and the baby vamps were F A T. Thanks grandpa-pee Markov. But as with all great civilizations, they eventually wither and die and the vamps were nudged out by the Wizards and Dragons, falling to their something? Either way, vampires died... again.

And thus, the true showdown began! Dragons vs. Wizards. The fight was tough, it was brutal and it lasted another 20 minutes or so, again making the game about an hour overall. In the end, the Ur-Dragon’s power of draw and play things for free was just too much for the Wizard deck and the Dragons gobbled them up with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

Look at the dimple on his nose towards the end there. Yeah, creepy, huh?

Some notes about these games.

Holy shit, do I appreciate our meta now. These premade decks seem to make the games last FOREVER sometimes. SO much so that I think Patrick’s spirit was crushed after the hour and 20 minute game he played in his first match. I get it buddy, you just wanted to Kruphix someone.

The games were fun, the new cards/commanders are great and I cannot wait to see some of the decks return after a nice tweak to the mana bases and a culling of some of the bulk cards.

So for this Summer split, the last time I’ll post the points before they reset!

POINTS:

Kevin getting his 9 points with Wizard tribal. Tim getting 9 points with HIS Wizard tribal. Billy grabbing a 9 points and learning to hate Grixis a little more! Juston with 9 points thanks to the power of Dragons of course! Dustin with 7 points and plans to make Vampires great again. Jonathan with 6 points because everyone was allergic to cats. Patrick with 4 points, I’m sorry, and yes, we’ll hold you.

To top it off he also opened an Arid Mesa pack and a Damnation foil from Modern Masters. I tell ya, the rich get richer. GAWL!

FUN FACTS FOR SUMMER SPLIT:

This was ALL the commanders played for the past 3 months! From least to most popular!

- In all there was 133 Commanders (counting doubles) that were played over the course of the three month split.

- The Average CMC of all the Commanders combined was 4.99.

- The most Expensive Commander next to the Ur-Dragon was Bosh, Iron Golem at 8 mana.

- The Cheapest Commanders were Baral, Chief of Compliance and Tymaret, the Murder King

The color wheel for all these commanders looked like this:

Random and notable Things!

1. Two people were decked in one game for a loss by Alesha with a recurring Balustrade Spy.

2. Only one person over the three months killed someone with Commander Damage and that was by Tasigur.

3. Before the Commander set released only two 5-color commanders had been played. Child of Alara and Sliver Overlord.

4. Only one person died to Mana Crypt. There were a few others that came close!

5. There have been 2 Lab Maniac kills so far.

6. White is the least played color.

7. Blue is the MOST played color.

8. There was only one colorless deck over the course of the three months.

9. There were 21 Mono colored (counting colorless) decks played overall. The other 112 were gold.
