Summary: headcanons of how I think Xavier would be with a fairy gf (includes you guys meeting at Nevermore, how you got together, and what happens while you’re together).

How you met:

You were just a normal student at Nevermore.

Well… thats using “normal” loosely.

Most students fit into four categories: Fur, Fangs, Scales, Stoners.

You were nowhere near any of those.

You were a fairy walking around with mesmerizingly beautiful wings. (Thank goodness Weems special ordered your uniforms to have the slots in the back for your wings.)

As expected, this causes you to stand out… ironic how many outcasts there are in the school for outcast (but I digress).

Just about everyone knew you because of your extraordinary being. It’d be a surprise if someone didn’t know you.

But just because everyone knows you doesn’t mean everyone is automatically your friend. For you, those are few and far between.

It’s because of that reason exactly that you dreaded partner work in classes.

Thornhill had just announced a two-person project and you were among the many groaning and griping about the project.

As luck would have it, she assigned partners before hand.

“…and lastly, Xavier with y/n,” she finished reading off the pairings

You looked over to Xavier only to find him already looking back at you.

The two of you exchanged small smiles before turning back to Thornhill as she finished explaining the project.

The rest is history✨✨✨

How you got together:

It had been a few months since you and Xavier got paired for Thornhill’s project.

Much to your surprise, he continued talking to you and hanging out with you when the project was finished.

“Y/n!” Xavier called out to you after Thornhill’s class one day. You two had just gotten your A for the project and you had figured Xavier would leave you behind the second it was done.

“Oh hey Xavier,” you said, a little surprised with him joining you in your walk to lunch. “Everything okay?”

He lightly laughed as his brow scrunched ever so slightly. “Yeah..? Why do you ask?”

You shrugged your shoulders. “I didn’t think you’d want to still be my friend after finishing the work.”

He went from having a scrunched brow to a completely confused look. “Why wouldn’t I?” You looked down in slight embarrassment as you failed to find a good reason, opting to shrug your shoulders again. He laughs a bit again and puts his arm around your shoulders, leading you towards a different table than you usually sat at. “We’re eating with my other friends today, I think you’ll like them.” The former part of his words sounded more along the lines of a demand than it did a suggestion but you went with it anyways.

From that day on, you had gotten close to Enid, Wednesday (of course she wouldn’t admit it), Ajax, and Eugene.

All of that eventually lead to you and Enid (and consequently Wednesday) having a sleepover in their dorm.

“We should play truth or dare!” The energetic werewolf suggests the game suddenly.

“I don’t find the need to indulge in such childish games,” Wednesday says monotonously, continuing her typing at her desk.

You laugh a little as you respond to Enid, “I don’t see why not.”

She squeals as you move to sit with her on her bed. “Okay, I’ll ask first: truth or dare.”

You considered your options, also thinking about what Enid has the potential of making you do if you chose dare. “Truth.”

She smiles sinisterly. “Do you have a crush on anyone?”

You feel your heart drop to your toes. Had she caught on to your recent changes in behavior? Seen the small glances you had tossed across the room? Been able to hear your heart beat louder when you were near him?

“I don’t-” you start only to be interrupted.

“Just admit your oh-so-obvious feelings for Xavier, y/n. Everyone can see it, no sense in hiding it,” Wednesday interjects.

You feel your face flush and your wings give small flutters at the thought of you with Xavier.

You hadn’t realized when it had began. All you knew was that one day you started smiling at every text you received from him, looking forward to seeing him laugh at another one of Enid’s silly gossip stories, feeling your heart as well as your wings flutter every time your name fell from his lips.

You sigh in defeat. “Fine, I do like Xavier. But what am I supposed to do about it?”

”SO glad you asked,” Enid says getting up and reaching under her bed. She pulled out a poster board that says, “The Simple Plan of Getting Xavier and Y/n Together.”

You almost laughed seeing the cheesy decorations surrounding the board.

“I have been waiting for the perfect time to set my master plan in motion,” Enid smiles. “When better to start than now?”

She explains the plan, telling you about the party some other students were holding the coming up weekend.

“If we can get enough people to join in and play spin-the-bottle, I already found someone with telekinesis that can make the bottle land on you and Xavier every time one of you two spin!” she finishes explaining.

“And you’re sure this will work because..?” you ask skeptically.

“I may or may not have overheard Ajax talking to Xavier and Xavier may or may not have admitted to having a crush on you and he may or may not have used your name when admitting his crush,” she says, failing to control her smile.

Your heart and wings flutter how they do every time you imagine you two being together. “Are you- are you sure it was me? I mean I’m sure there’s plenty of other girls with the name ‘y/n’ in this school. He could’ve been talking about anyone for all we know.”

”I’ve heard the names of every student in this school, you manage to be the only y/n I’ve heard of,” Enid assures you.

You continue to hesitate as you think over everything that could happen. Finally, you decide the risk would be worth the reward. “Fine, I’ll do it.”

Fast forward a couple of days and you, Xavier, and a good bit of other students were sitting in a circle, an empty bottle in the middle of you all. You sat next to Xavier, the telekinetic student Enid was paying to control the bottle on your turns sat across from him, and everyone else was dispersed about.

After a few minutes, your turn has come. With a shaky hand, you spun the bottle as best you could.

As Enid told you, the bottle quickly stopped directly pointing at Xavier.

Xavier must have seen the nervousness on your face.

“You don’t have to if your not comfortable-” he starts, only for you to quickly cut him off by slamming your lips against his own.

He wasted no time in returning the action, lips pushing against yours as much as you pushed against his.

“Get a room!” one of the various students exclaimed jokingly, making you two quickly pull away from each other with slightly heavy breathing, eyes not leaving each others.

The game finishes eventually and Xavier had offered to walk you back to your dorm, an offer you quickly accepted.

Standing outside your door, Xavier begins to speak. “Can I tell you something? If you say yes, you can’t let it change anything between us if you don’t… ‘agree’.”

You feel the flutters once again, turning towards him and nodding for him to continue.

He takes a deep breath and gently grabs your hands. “There no point in tip-toeing around this so I’ll just rip the bandaid off: I like you. Like, really like you. And tonight… well tonight just made my feelings so much more intense. If you don’t like me back that’s fine, but I needed to tell you before it ate at my heart anymore than it already has.” His eyes never leave yours as he admits his feelings to you.

You stood there staring at him in shock. He takes your silence as rejection, smiling sadly as he nods and lets go of your hands.

Right as he turns to leave, you snap back to reality (oop-there goes gravity-).

“Wait!” you exclaim as you grab his hand and pull him back to facing you. “When I didn’t respond, I didn’t mean it as me-not-liking-you-back-and-I-don’t-know-how-to-tell-you silence. I meant it as holy-crap-the-guy-I-like-likes-me-back-and-I-don’t-know-how-to-tell-him silence.” He let’s out a small laugh at your ramble of a confession.

“So… what does this mean?” he asks after a moment of quiet between the two of you.

“What do you want it to mean?” you ask back.

The smile that follows makes you feel butterflies in your stomach, them increasing in rapidity as he places one hand on your cheek, pulling you into another sweet kiss.

Stuff for while you’re dating:

PAINTING DATESSS

If you know how to paint, you both spend time in his shed painting different scenes and portraits with each other. If you don’t know how to paint, you often hang out with him in his shed, doing your own thing while unknowingly being his model for slot her masterpiece.

Dude’s love language is gift giving and quality time, no I will not elaborate.

idk about y’all but mine is biting when I’m super comfortable with someone so if you’re just like me, he probably tends to have random bite marks wherever you decided to strike and if someone asks he just 🤷‍♂️ and moves on.

Steal his hoodies (tucking your wings into them to they’ll stay on), he will love seeing you in them💕 (bonus points if you’re way smaller than him, it’s adorable)

Naps? Yes. Elaboration? No.

You’re probably his date to all the secret parties he attends.

Please play with his hair after he has another less-than-pleasant vision, he will sleep so much better.

I feel like he’d probably be really good at makeup since he’s a really good artist so let him do your eyeliner every now and again.

“Can I touch your wings?” is a question you’ve often heard in your life, annoying you just as much. But he asks every now and again and you can’t help but let him.

Winter-based powers? Naturally cold? Perfect, let him warm you up. Plant-based powers? Grow him a flower and he’ll press into a bookmark. Electric-based powers? Nothing can shock him more than the night you started dating him hun, rest assured you won’t hurt him.

Idk what nicknames he’d call you but they’d probably be based around your abilities.

You go to his house on holidays, especially when his dad can’t be bothered to stay home with his son for a few days.

Hello, how are you if I can wade in and vent if thats ok with you.

Austin has been criss crossing the globe with all things promotional with MOTA and then the juggernaut of Dune 2. He has yet to hit the road again abit on a smaller scale for Bikeriders to promote. Not to mention he's probably filming, working what ever.

But these questions, chatter and discussions about AB and the Oscars. Like ok. Lets give our boy a break. He doesn't like the paps. He wants a private life and he's had done everything plus some needed for his work over the past few months to give us the true fans alot to fawn, enjoy and arguably lust over.

I don't care about Nepo enemy number one or which Oscars after party he went to with her. And her mum! Though I kind of secretly hoped he partied with Timmy or Callum tbh, defo love him and Callum too much. I'm glad with her 'boyfriend' being so busy with work and living his best life it's shown she truly has little going on unless created by herself *cough bookclub and her acting work in big moves* and her family through their crafted PR.

Oh and that other ex. Like dude, why were you on the red carpet your not a list. Actually why were some of those people on the red carpet? And then ragging on talking about AB, days before to the press knowing you have been broken up for ever now and now preggo with your new husband's baby. MOVE 👏 ON 👏WITH 👏 YOUR👏LIFE👏. Like all of them need to stop and leave him be honestly. Looking bitter now ladies.

Im sorry, Im getting upset and i dont know why. Some of the fandom stuff maybe is getting me down. Idk! I want to read and hear all about Austin but not everything else. It gets irritating I guess. Sorry this has been months of being annoyed I think

I broke up with my qpp...

I broke up with my qpp and the worst part is honestly that they where amazing. Like yes, we had a few bad moments, some missed communication but.. In The penultimate important comversation I had with them, they apologised for that, they explained everything in such a way that it was clear to me that their heart was always in the right place. Later on, I even found out that I have things to improve on too; he pointed out how I never told them I was feeling insecure and sad when they first started acting distant. And honestly, If I could put our bad moments and our good moments on a scale, the good moments would tip the scales by far. Like, the point is weve had oodels and oodles of good moments, plus ive always felt safe around him.

I still broke up though...For something that wasnt even their fault, it was just this silly part of myself :/

I was born with it, i think. It has been logical and natural to me since I was a kid. Like, when my dad told me about a man from our church who slept with multiple women, instead of asking something like "Why would he do that?" I asked "Did his wife consent to him doing that?". I never saw ethical nonmonogamy as a part of me before, I didnt even know the name for it until really recently. I didnt even think I had anything to be ethically nonmonogamous about, honestly. So I never told my partner until recently. And even then, I didnt say it was my identity, it was more like, I was coming out as something else, and I requested ethical nonmonogamy to go along woth it, because ethical nonmonogamy makes sense to me and makes me feel safe.

They where fine with the thing I came out about, which mind you, was this really huge bombshell that Im very sure they didnt expect from me, someone they always saw as "more innocent" than then. Im so thankful they where chill about that, at least. However.. They where sad about the ENM suggestion, at the fact thar i may "need" people in that way, that I cant just be commited to them. I never corrected them on the commitment thing, I thought it best to validate their feelings. I understood their feelings intelectually but not on a personal level, which later on, I took more as a sign that Im an ethical nonmonogamist [is that an official term for people like me, btw? Idk]. Like...I never expected them to react that way but basically I reassured them they will always be enough, I only "need" others for the freedom to explore and all that, we would create rules and boundaries around em, to protexct our bond. They still werent willing to try nonmonogamy though, they said a lot of cheating went on in their past relashionships. They just couldnt be comfortable in the relashionship configuration I was suggesting. So I was true to myself and broke things off. All because of this one aspect of my identity that isnt even benefitial to me. The only thing it has done for me so far is cause a breakup :/

OH SO MANY SPOILERS

The Ten Kings..... i got no clue. It seems like Nine absorbed them, but then we see a quick glimpse of Macaque at the end of ep10 down there again, testing his shadow powers(?) with the underworld pillars in the background, but you can't tell if anyone is in them. On that note, what's Mac's connection to those guys anyway? Why's he down there at the end for that lil bit? He doesn't seem afraid of them, nor do they seem to care much about him, given the whole "he died" theory. And then there"s Nine's little remark at Mac, "that power, who did you make a deal with?" and Mac's confused answer. Questions, so many questions!

Wukong and Nine..... i think i can answer that! Xiangliu, in Chinese legend, was a demon that brought floods and destruction (very common "chaos" elements, that later get projected onto the more cosmic scale like we see in lmk), who in some versions is killed by legendary emperor Yu the Great when he tamed the floodwater of the Yellow River. Yu the Great is a favourite theoretical previous life of Sun Wukong, not in any official story or lore that I know of, but in the sense that it keeps getting pointed out. They were both born from a stone, and Wukong's staff used to belong to Yu before he left it in the ocean after using it to measure the depth of the earth's waters. So Nine may have been cheekily referring to a past life that Wukong has no memory of, but that Nine (having posed as a "guardian of the cycle of reincarnation") knows was him.

Nuwa's cycles.... i THINK are a reference to the kalpa, an element of Hindu and Buddhist cosmology that makes it into JTTW. A kalpa is, as i understand, the immense millions/billions years long stretch of the existence of the universe, between its formation and cyclical destruction and re-formation into a new universe. I think Nuwa's goal in lmk was to preserve the souls of everthing in the reincarnation cycle in this kalpa so they could carry on into the next, instead of dissolving and reforming along with the rest of the universe. It's unclear to what extent celestial beings and buddhas are exempt from this to begin with (Tathagata references things from the previous kalpa in jttw and says the Jade Emperor trained for many kalpas just to be able to hold his post in this one), and i'm pretty sure i only vaguely understand the concept anyway, but I think that's kind of what's being referenced in the show: this world's time is up, it gets to be remade into something else, but Nuwa wants everyone in it to transmigrate into the new cycle to continue on being reincarnated without interruption. Whew.

Li Jing's pagoda does seem to be like a big ol demon centipede jar, lolol. There's some lore about pagodas as both a structure and a symbol of being able to trap and contain demons, either by confusing them with the many levels or by the octagonal shape of them mimicking a self-contained "world" that can't be broken free of. Maybe being trapped in Li's pagoda is meant to weaken them? Either way, it seems like the beings that get sucked in there tend to be ones strong enough to perhaps feed off.... other things besides food. Hell, do Macaque and Wukong even need to eat food to live? We see them eating, but maybe they just enjoy it lol

MK's life.... i think that's exactly it. He was Nuwa's macguffin. He'd wake up at the end of the cycle, bring the stones, and survive with her in that "sanctuary" while the world was remade. Would that have made him one of the gods of the new cycle? Would he just go back into the cycle of reincarnation like everything else? Who knows? I think that was meant to be just the beginning of his life, or his sacrifice was just one life of many to come: if he succeeded, he'd survive the end along with the souls of everything else. Buuuut Nines woke him up early to speed things along, and kid done got all attached to everything the way it was and stuff lolol.

The dooooog XDDD that was cute! I kind of love a world where everyone having powers is just kinda cool cuz like, there's already magic and demons and gods everywhere all the time anyway. Like, there's celestial warriors meandering all over the Dragon Tiger festival, and it's just business as usual lol. Now everyone has a little piece of the magic action. Also dogs, and baby birds, and presumably all living things I guess? Oh god, do the ffm monkeys have powers now? Oh geez. Oh no. Rip Wukong's new house lololol

Yeah, there's just so much going on in this season. So many new elements and tidbits to think on. I look forward to future Mac in the pagoda fics! He strikes me as someone who'd navigate a wardenless prison.... interestingly XDD

From what i've heard there will be a season 6, but no 4-episode special for season 5 because of production delays and the studio change and etc. So it looks like there's still more of the story to come!

I've put together some initial thoughts/prompts/questions/ramblings after watching Season 5 of LMK.

CW: SPOILERS FOR ALL OF LMK SEASON 5!

Ten Kings are no more - are they replaced? What happens to the Dìyù without them?

Wukong can't remember being friends/enemies with Nine - was it in a previous cycle or outside of it?

Nine (Xiāngliǔ) and his metaphor of leaving the cave. Of embracing chaos and choice, rejecting destiny and order.

What are Nǚwā's cycles like? Is it the same people making the same decisions over and over again? Or is it a clean slate? Who knows about this? Does anyone survive and retain their knowledge of the previous cycle?

Macaque's time in Lǐ Jìng's Pagoda. How long was he there? Does time move differently? How are basic needs met? Do you no longer need to eat once you're there? Is food provided? Does it create a demon eat demon environment out of necessity?

How was MK's life supposed to be? If he'd woken up at the "right" time would he have known exactly what he was supposed to be doing? Would he have head off immediately to gather the stones? Would he have even been much of a person? Was Monkey King still meant to train him so he would be ready to gather the stones?

How did MK get to Pigsy's? Nine? To what end? How much influence has he had on MK's life before the staff? He makes a big deal about choice so perhaps little after his initial move?

The ramifications of everyone (?) having some sort of power. What kind of powers does everyone have? One of the elements?

The five elements in Chinese mythology are Wood, Metal, Fire, Water and Earth. But that wouldn't explain how the dog at the end is able to fly (very cute reference that it is) so it could be possible that the element of Earth has been replaced by Air? Or perhaps just replaced with a vague sort of heavenly power owing to the fact it's guardian was the Jade Emperor? Or there could be more to the powers than pure elemental magic? (Or mostly likely it is elemental powers and I'm too focused on the dog)

If each stone granted a specific set of powers would this then cause lines to be drawn? Divisions made? Would those who received the blessing of the yellow stone, the stone of the Jade Emperor, start to think themselves better than the rest? Possible A:TLA sort of situation?

What would the dragon and tiger have tested MK on if they had time? What was their relationship?

Smaller personal themes to explore:

Pigsy's feelings about being a father and what that means, Red Son's developing relationship with his family, Mei's fears of not getting stronger and of getting left behind (she was understandably upset at her lack of MK time but it really did border on desperate), MK coming to terms with what he was made for and choosing differently, MK's fear of chaos.

There is so much food for thought this season and I've got loads of fic ideas brewing! I will absolutely be writing a fic about Mac's time in the Pagoda - that just has way too much golden potential - but there's so many themes big and small to explore.

Needless to say most of S5 won't make it into my Monkey Talk AU but there's so much good stuff to explore! So I can almost guarantee some standalone fics!

Now I need to go have a long hard think about the nature of chaos...

The more I think on it I have exactly 0 qualms with Rue’s actions

Like they didn’t know Hob’s mission until ep 6 at the end, and there was that moment of surprise that it was his victories that led to the almost engagement - that was an interesting moment, especially as they tell him he was used. Rue knows plenty about being used

Also the conversation got cut away from right as Hob asked if Rue or Binx knew who had done it, likely for dramatic effect

Rue’s letter after the masquerade ball talks about wanting to KNOW Hob - what would’ve happened if that letter had actually been delivered? Would they have had a version of this conversation then?

And seriously like why THIS engagement? Why was this the one they had to break up? What was different about it? There had to be something, right??? I suppose it could just be a “straw that breaks the camel’s back” sort of thing, and it seemed like they were maybe thinking of revealing themselves at this Bloom anyway and meeting Hob tipped the scales, but I gotta know what sparked it

But no matter what it was - this is a being who was ripped from their home and made to be what this court wanted them to be, and they contorted themself into that box for millennia, working painstakingly to ensure everyone else around them might know love, or happiness, all the while being kept at arm’s length in their own court because of their origins

And something, whatever it was, finally made them go, “enough!”

That’s fucking revolutionary

And it happened before the engagement was even officially announced. Still scandalous, sure, but at least gives the goblin court plausible deniability

The whole season has had significant themes of This System Sucks so I’m just not overly Concerned about the reputation of the courts

Particularly not of a court that has been happy to use and abuse a member to the point where he gets so close to almost DYING because he won’t remove the DAMN ARROWS FROM HIS BACK out of his misguided sense of honor and service (that they knowingly take advantage of)

Hob, who has also been an outsider, who has dealt with that by fully sublimating his own sense of self, a full on trauma response

Who danced with someone 6 or 8 times and could only think “how nice of them to take pity on me”

But god forbid someone inadvertently make his terrible court look bad lol

And that’s the point, isn’t it - they’re all terrible

Love and happiness are not important, only perception, and power, and influence

The only one not obsessed with power and status is Binx’s court, and they got consumed, an easy target that wasn’t even trying to fight back, was just trying to do their own thing

Years and years and years of do this, say that, smile here, play nice, don’t upset the system, most too entrenched in their own survival mechanisms to do anything but go along

voting is important and if it didnt do anything republicans wouldnt be trying to take that right away yes yes right. but also remember that the two-party system has, on a federal level, been doing fuckall for its people as of late. people are angry and fed up and rightfully so, the people who they elected FOR that damage control have not been doing their job. tut-tutting at people who are mad that nothing they’ve been told to do inside the confines of legal action has been helping, assuming they haven’t already had their ability to vote been put through the wringer, doesn’t help anyone.

if you REALLY want to convince people that voting isn’t useless, remind people about the kind of progress you can get done at local levels, with local elected officials- communities building their own infrastructure, of all kinds, that capitalism or the federal government would never provide without serious arm-twisting, local overriding of unjust federal laws (remember, it was only a handful of states you could get gay married in before Obergefell!), local legalization and decriminalization of drugs and various criminal laws, local abolition of police, even!

If you can’t find yourself motivated to care about what’s happening on a federal level- hey, I get it. Instead of focusing on that, focus on issues on the state, county, city level- good changes start at smaller scales, and that’s the upshot to all of the ‘states rights’ activism the right has been pushing- it applies to progressive policy, too. If making federal elections an afterthought is what gets you to care about your local politics, do that. If you can’t stomach the thought of electing more shitlib ghouls to office, don’t! look into third parties and write-in candidates- both of which are getting a lot more popularity as of late, due to...you can guess why.

None of this is to say ‘voting is the only answer! uwu’, it’s not, it never has been. Does it help? Yeah, it does, and it can even have some pretty good outcomes. But just dropping your ballot in the machine is not, and will never be, a replacement for action, no matter how good the candidates you’re electing are. Remember- the American democratic system was specifically designed to keep vast, sweeping (new) changes from happening quickly, if you rely on politicians to do anything without even making your voice heard, you’re gonna be waiting a long time.

TL;DR- hey lol i know we’re all fed up with the ‘remember to vote’ stuff but if you focus on more local politics and direct action instead of the clownscape on the federal level it will almost definitely be less of a headache and FOR SURE definitely be more immediately helpful

Part 1

Sesshomaru, Rin, Setsuna, Jaken, Moroha, Takechiyo, Hisui, Kohaku

Kyaaaaah! I love David so much! He done a great job with Sesshomaru! As did the rest of the cast for their characters. I love and admire this scene of how fast Sesshomaru is flying to save his wife's life, he isn't wasting no time, he is speed flying! Lol, Jaken struggling as he's hanging onto his Mokomoko is really funny to me.

Ouch... the way Rin weakly mentions Towa and Setsuna's names.... (��ヽ) I'll cry all night, I never heard Rin speak in such a weaken voice before.

Jaken assuming Sesshomaru was flying fast to grant Rin's dying wish... Nooooo! Omgoshy don't! Why would you even say or think that Jaken?! (つ﹏<。)

It looks like Sesshomaru was having some trouble finding his daughters, it may had been the fact that Towa and Setsuna were in their human forms for a whole night or the fact they used that hand cream all night. Lol, poor guy. Well, the ogres did Sesshomaru a favor by talking about their plot, he overheard them and changed direction without even hesitating.

Yet again, Jaken has spilled the tea on Sesshomaru's actions... aww! He wasn't giving up on his wife Rin, he never wants to lose her, she is his everything. And now thanks to the official interview, we found Rin is Sesshomaru's heart. 💜 She is apart of him and his reasoning for living, it's just so beautiful! If he had of lost Rin forever from the silver scale curse or anything, it would probably straight up kill Sesshomaru, literally. That's like, pretty much saying he would die without her existence.( ˃̣̣̥ω˂̣̣̥ ) This man is in love! Rin is his soulmate.

Lots of Antis were so angry that Sesshomaru didn't do what Rin wanted him to do, they made up such ridiculous stuff about him having her imprisoned in the tree of ages... No, they just wanted her to die, they said many times while trashing Rin as a character. They just ticked off their theory didn't come true about if Rin dies, Kagura will be living through her from now on.

(I hate Kagura now thanks to them...hopefully it's temporary since I do in fact ship her with Adult Kohaku, I find them being a good positive ship, so it should be temporary since I'm still hyped about drawing them together one day. Anyway, I use to only like her as a character, I felt bad for her because all she truly wanted was freedom, she got it but in the most sad and tragic way. But then Antis with their horrible obsession with SessKagu had to destroy her character for me... They've put me and great fans and artists through a lot heck. (SessKagu in my opinion is one of the most Toxic ships ever... I had to block all of it's tags, especially blocked Kagura's too. And I'll be honest, I don't see Sesshomaru and Rin being with other people. I'm completely against seeing them with other characters as a ship but I never go harassing people, I just simply ignore it, block or mute because I find blocking some people or accounts is too harsh, especially if they aren't an Anti. I just prefer blocking Antis to keep them away me and so I can't see their posts anywhere. Plus, it's discouraging for my inspiration to see them with someone else other than each other, I've met a few artists and fans who feel the same way, so it's always best to feed your inspiration and not the stuff that discourage it.) So yes, Antis got mad at Sesshomaru for this, it was ridiculous. He didn't want his wife to die and also Rin didn't want to die either, she cried when Sesshomaru had to cut the dream butterfly to help Setsuna out with mastering her weapon. She knew what was gonna happen once that was done... The silver scales would start to cover her whole body until she rot away. Sesshomaru is and will always be a wonderful husband. ♡️

Aww, Moroha is just too gosh darn cute! And she even sounds concerned of her Aunt Rin, it's very sweet, she loves her family so much.

Lol, Kohaku is a Sesshomaru fanboy. He was probably cheering on the inside to see Sesshomaru after all these years, you can actually hear the excitement in his voice and he wanted to fight beside him, it's cute!

Sesshomaru is not showing favoritism in Setsuna by going to her first, this was a bad misinterpretation. He loves both his baby girls very much and probably wants these hardships to end as soon as possible so he and Rin can finally be with them. I'm sure he's curious of how to be a father to them and still needs his beloved's guidance and influences to help him understand it. The concern in his voice and the way he closed his eyes, worrying about Towa... really makes my heart melt on how caring he is, he has came a long way, I'm very proud of him. ♡(.◜ω◝.)♡ He's a great father in his own way. I always love how softly he speaks to his daughters, he's gentle and patient, it's beautiful. He truly knew Setsuna is the only key to calm Towa. And wow, I could hear the tension in his voice when he was taking out the ogres, he's definitely under a lot pressure with all the situations going on.

It’s official, I’m writing all of Stranger Things Season Four

I announced that I was going to do this way back in November, when I originally started, but here’s the official announcement.

Yes! I am writing all of ST 4, since we probably won’t have it for awhile, I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands.

I’ve been writing scripts for about five ish years now. I’ve taken multiple screenwriting classes and I have studied the duffers writing and stranger things itself for about 5 months now, jotting down all character qualities and traits so this will be as realistic as possible.

Now, as we will probably be getting more information as time goes on, this obviously isn’t going to be similar to the actual st4.

But NO! This is NOT A FANFICTION.

I will be writing it like an actual script, I’ve taken notes on the duffers writing and hopefully by the end it will turn out similar enough for you to imagine it as if it was canon.

I will be using ALL EVIDENCE OF SEASON 4 AND ALL PRIOR SEASON KNOWLEDGE ASWELL.

This means, YES! All new characters will be implemented into this season. It also means, YES! All audition tapes we’ve seen thus far (that aren’t from prexisting movies that the duffers used to try and trick us with) WILL BE REAL SCENES.

ALSO: the video store friday list comes into this big time. We don’t know exactly why certain VSF movies were put on the list, but I will be watching all VSF movies to get an idea on how the actual ST4 will play out so I can incorporate that into my version.

This will be completely canon compliant (SO FAR) as I’ve said, things will change by the time I get this done, so our educated guesses now could be very unreliable once we get actual set pics and more audition tapes and leaks. HOWEVER:

Since we don’t know where the Byers moved, they will be in Chicago.

NOW FOR WHAT IT WILL INCLUDE:

-Canon Byler

NOW HANG ON! No! I will not be tearing apart Mileven. Mike and El WILL break up but mutually and respectively. THIS IS NOT A FANFICTION, meaning all the characters WILL BE IN CHARACTER! So if that means Mileven takes longer to break up, then so be it. My goal is for this to sound real, for it to sound like it could actually be a season of stranger things.

NO! The main plot line will NOT BE BYLER. This isn’t a byler script. This is stranger things season four. All I can say is that Byler will be canon by the end. And the two scripts and sneak peaks I have posted thus far give you a hint as to how it will happen.

- I know I already said this but I’m reiterating: all characters from leaked audition tapes and Charles Murphy leaks and official stranger things announcements will be in this season. (Minus Fred bc we know virtually nothing about him so I can’t create a character surrounding someone we know nothing about) this includes: Hellfire club members and Eddie, Jason and ten basketball team, Chrissy, Vickie, Angela, Jake, argyle, and more!

-Brenner, Owens, and Lonnie are all back.

-Wileven angst (as I feel that is realistic after studying both of their characters) however you will get good wileven content.

-Will and El are still being bullied.

-Joyce and Murray team up (duh)

-Mike runs away to the Byers for Will’s birthday

-Will develops powers, HOWEVER, they are not even remotely similar to el’s powers and are more similar to the powers he already has (sensing the mind flayer) but on a much bigger scale.

-We meet a new number/lab experiment

-The upside down is seeking into Hawkins

-hellfire club is under scrutiny and people are accusing them of all the bad stuff going on in Hawkins

-A current main character will die along with some new characters. (Sorry guys! Like I said, this will be realistic and I have to do this in order for it to be realistic!)

-Will gets a coming out scene.

-Max and Dustin team up.

-Robin and Nancy team up.

-Max isn’t doing too hot rn but shes getting a GREAT arc.

-Lucas Is on the basketball team and is semi popular but is being used to do the upper class men’s bidding, he gets AN ACTUAL ARC THIS SEASON! (Hurray!!)

-Heartfelt Joyce moments.

-An AWESOME sound track! I’ll be creating a Spotify playlist for this!!

-Nine episodes! (Since we don’t know the current episode titles I’ll be creating them as I go, but PLEASE be aware that we’ll probably have the real episode titles before my season is done.)

-This s season will be very similar to seasons one and two.

-Much more darker elements.

-Will actually gets screen time and is a center plot point again.

-Billy is still dead lol. No revival! Sorry!

-Kids in America plays !!

-El is a total badass this season.

-Mike and Robin moments.

-Murray and Erica moments.

-Dustin gets a super amazing plot that I’m super excited for!

-A much scarier threat this time, the worse they’ve encountered.

-And MUCH MUCH MORE!

I CURRENTLY HAVE EPISODES 1, 2, AND HALF OF 3 COMPLETED.

Episode one will be available very soon. Full season will be out by April or May hopefully, maybe sooner.

Why Kid is Luffy’s Only Rival

Been thinking about this one for a while now. Eustass ‘Captain’ Kid, one of the main players of the worst generation and top dog of the ‘Victoria Punk’ pirate ship. Calling Kid the top dog seems extremely redundant but when your nickname is ‘Captain’ what the heck is a blog to do.

His introduction to the story is as a brash, easily triggered and quick tempered super rookie designed as a direct rival to our very own Straw-Hat Luffy. Kid and the other Supernova Captains were slipped into the story as equals to our rubbery protagonist with their entry and journey through the first half of the Grand Line being described as the catalyst to ushering in the next generations of Pirates.

Reading the manga however, that high admiration for Kid has been somewhat shit on quelled. Nothing against Kid but there is no one, absolutely no one that can compare to The Future King of the Pirates.

So what is it about Kid that’s so good, what separates him from the other (less spectacular) supernova. And I really am including Law in that list of unimpressive pirates - I mean sad backstories are everything in One Piece but Trafalgar Law is just as ineffective in the world as the other members of the supernova. His feats and accolades are great to read about but in the grand scheme of things he’s very meh. A post time skip inclusion to the Straw Hats dynamic with all the underwhelming presence of Princess Vivi.

But this is a Kid fan post so the less said about Law the better, maybe i’ll give him his very own post next.

Let’s talk about Eustass ‘Captain’ Kid

We seem to know both a lot and nothing at all about this reckless member of the worst generation. His brash and battle scarred appearance, his vicious personality as a pirate contrast with his unshakable love for his crew comparable to Roger himself. (They both get very triggered if someone were to speak badly about their crews).

Beyond his pending backstory (which will no doubt be sad as all heck, invoking all of the feels), one of the more compelling unknowns around Kid is his introductory bounty when we met him at the Sabaody Archipelago. The contentious figure of 315,000,000 Berri had us questioning how he managed to outdo the protagonist we had been following since the East Blue.

The quick and easy answer - he caused a huge number of civilian casualties along the way

BORING!! #SnoozeAlert.

The long answer - and some might say more fun. Figuring out where this number for his bounty came from, what kind of feats and activities could he possibly have done on his journey to the Grand Lines half way point. Comparing Luffy’s journey and coming up with theories on what Kid could have done similarly is our best bet and should make understanding why Kid is the indisputable mirror and number one rival to our favourite Monkey boy pirate. (Discounting Blackbeard of course)

So how do we do that lol...

Not the easiest job to take on considering we have no idea how bounties are decided in the One Piece world, we can only speculate based on the small details we do know and track back against the Straw Hats who we have seen in action, receiving their very own dead or alive posters. I’ll be going through mostly everything we know up to the story’s half-way point pre-timeskip, unless something relevant crops up from the New World, but from my take it gets a lot more difficult to make assumptions after that point.

Where to begin? The beginning of course…

It's amazing how often Oda has to remind us bounty values are not a reflection of a pirates strength but a reflection of their threat level at the time of issue. And this distinction becomes extremely important in trying to figure out what Kid did. What threatening actions could he have done, when would he have done it and who precisely is he a threat to.

“On the Blue Sea below, there are a class of people called "pirates"... they are criminals who sail the seas in search of plunder. These people fly a black flag with a skull atop their ship's mast. ”— Gan Fall

The moment a person raises that black flag marked with a skull and crossbones as their symbol, they are immediately declaring themselves to be enemies of the state. Outlaws that choose to ignore the rules of the land, instead living out at sea and taking from the land what they want. Pirates!!

By becoming a pirate you are officially waging war on the government - The World Government (WG) and by extension its sea based military unit - The Marines. Clearly this is the ‘who’ when the question of threatening behaviour is raised. As simple as it sounds, it really does tell us quite a bit when inferring the actions and reasoning behind Kids bounty.

Kid has done something that has directly threatened the WG

But what about that old, boring line on ‘causing civilian casualties’... How much weight does that truly hold in determining your threat level.

I’d like to argue that in the world of One Piece, this sort of action, in actuality, holds little to no meaning. From Buggy destroying Orange Town, Krieg bombarding a Baratie filled with civilian customers and Arlongs ten year stint of villainy in Kokoyashi, the East Blue Saga is littered with examples of high civilian casualties yet we see no consequence come of it in the form of newly raised bounty figures. The obvious conclusion would be that attacking civilians is not enough to get a bounty figure raised and if raised it won’t be by much, this does also pose new questions. Is it enough to get a new bounty issued? And does the lack of Marine presence affect the disclosure of a pirate's actions? In the first two cases the Marines weren’t even around, hard to believe those actions wouldn’t have been reported to them though, and in the last case the only Marine directly involved was unsympathetically corrupt to the bone.

Now I can’t ignore the involvement of a certain Monkey D Luffy in these incidents. His defeat of the pirates meant that although they were still on the run from the Marines (barring Arlong), they were now a non factor as a more noteworthy individual has somehow come out of nowhere and defeated 3 of the most prominent East Blue Captains and crews (4 but Kuro was dead to them). This collective feat is what earned Luffy the top East Blue bounty of 30M Berri.

Expanding a little on the importance of Marine presence. At each point Luffy’s bounty is increased it has been the direct result of him acting against a representative of the Government - publicly.

First bounty of 30M Berri issued after the defeat of Arlong. It was the action against Marine Captain Nezumi of the 16th Branch in the East Blue which prompted him to personally request a bounty for the Captain of the pirate crew that defeated and humiliated him. Luffy’s feats before this may have been used as justification for the value, but no wanted poster would exist without this Marine present.

Second bounty of 100M Berri issued after the defeat of Ōka Shichibukai Sir Crocodile. Public awareness of Crocodile's defeat was inevitable due to his instigation of a coup against the established monarchy of a member nation of the World Government - The Nefertari Family. Although in the media Luffy’s involvement was suppressed, the WG couldn’t ignore the unprecedented issue they now had at his hands with a Warlords defeat and arrest. So Luffy’s threat level automatically went up, more than tripling.

Third bounty of 300M Berri issued after the infiltration, destruction and escape of the WG judiciary island Enies Lobby. Directly opposing the WG and causing multiple casualties amongst the marines and world government officials (not as significant as civilians?), declaring war on the WG by burning the flag that represents the entity, defeating one of their greatest assets, Rob Lucci and the CP9 as well as being the scapegoat for the annihilation of the island under the unstoppable force of the Buster Call and escaping with the Devils Child Nico Robin in the midst of it.

We mustn’t forget that afterwards Luffy defeated Ōka Shichibukai Geko Moria on the isolated island-ship of Thriller Bark. The only WG presence was through Kuma’s arrival allowing for a full suppression of the incident, Moria keeping his position with Kuma given orders to take the head of the Straw-Hat Captain. He then infiltrated two more Government facilities, causing the greatest unprecedented breakout in history with multiple pirates in tow at Impel Down, and greatly impacting the Paramount War fought at Marine HQ while facilitating the release and potential escape of Portgas D Ace and the Whitebeard Pirates. The culmination of this led to his final pre-timeskip bounty increase to 400M Berri.

At this point there are three things that stand out when it comes to Luffy’s high value bounty increases:

A direct and public action must be taken against the Marines and WG

The large scale of some the incidents have proven too difficult to fully suppress

Strangely casualties amongst government officials hold less weight than civilian casualties.

So how does this apply to Kid. How can we use this to decipher the actions and merits behind his introductory bounty.

Well, I believe that to reach the bounty level of 315M Berri Kid must have accomplished feats near to equal that of Monkey D Luffy. How can that be when all of Luffy’s feats are first in their nature, unprecedented events. My argument though is that if we apply the nearest reasonable equivalent, could we get more of an understanding of Kids exploits.

What can be equivalent to the defeat of one, if not two, Ōka Shichibukai. What compares to the breach of a Marine and Government inhabited island. Direct, public, sizable, irrepressible and includes civilians....

The long awaited, highly drawn out conclusion - A Marine Base

Specifically a large Marine Base located in the GrandLine Paradise and under the command of a Vice Admiral, littered with the presence of marine officials and their civilian families.

Vice Admirals no doubt must be seen as equals in strength, intimidation (via rank) and authority level amongst the everyday civilians as each of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. The admiration Crocodile received from the people of Alabasta in thanks to his title cannot be compared to the much less acknowledged presence of, Captain at the time, Smoker when he was on the island. The reactive fear most pirates display at the sheer mention of a Warlord being in the area emulates that of a Vice Admiral beyond any reaction a lower ranked official may create.

*Potential Spoiler if not caught up with Episode 957 of the Anime*

Upon the abolishment of the Warlord system we are shown multiple warships on approach to each of the Shichibukai, assumedly all led by at least one Vice Admiral ranked Marine officer based on the presence of Vice Admiral Stainless addressing Buggy The Clown. It’s clear from this scene along with the ones depicting Boa Hancock and Dracule Mihawk, that the Marines acknowledge how formidable the Warlords are and how much of their own military might is required to apprehend each. Although we don’t yet know the outcome we can infer the comparability between the Ōka Shichibukai and the Vice Admirals of the Marines.

Kid definitely proved his capability and threat level by, at the very least, bringing down one of the GrandLine Marine Bases on his chosen route towards Sabaody Archipelago. And I can tell you for free that he is the only member of the Supernova (outside of Luffy) that is capable of doing this. Oda has shown us that not one of the other Supernovas compare in a level of reckless behaviour to Luffy with each of them finding a way to survive and slowly build up their presence in the New World. Law directly requested to become a Shichibukai to aid freer movement, Capone submitted(even though temporarily) to becoming a subordinate of the Big Mom Pirates, the others we know attempting to form alliances for a more promising chance to survive against the Emperors. Only Luffy and Kid have shown enough will to directly oppose all powers that threatened them no matter how overwhelming the odds seemed.

So that's it, a very long winded theory haphazardly put together as to how Eustass Kid achieved a comparable and slightly higher bounty of 315M Berri to our Luffy’s 300M at the time, and strongest reasoning for why Kid is Luffy’s only rival.

Who knows, may one day attempt to put some fanfiction together around this theory, potentially using G4 since we know the least about it and it must exist in the canon storyline.

OFD NEWS + LIFE UPDATE!

OMG HI TUMBLR!

I am here with some exciting news. Obviously it has been *quite a year* on a global scale (understatement of the century), but it has also been a very busy and intense year in my life personally. I was supposed to finish my PhD back in May/June of this year but that whole timeline got pushed back because of the pandemic. I was also supposed to return to the US from Sweden around that time, but I ended up delaying my return to the US until after I finished my dissertation (which turned out to be such a good decision). After many complications and setbacks, I finally managed to finish and successfully defend my dissertation in October and complete my PhD, so I am now officially A DOCTOR OF LITERATURE! :D :D :D This would feel like a massive accomplishment in and of itself but finishing my PhD this year especially well... let’s just say it was not easy!

As you OFD Readers are well aware, all of this dissertation-writing and degree finishing left me almost no time to work on OFD. I posted a chapter back in April of this year and after that, for the first time since I started writing the story back in 2014, I had to set it aside *completely* in order to get my dissertation done. This is the longest I have gone without working on OFD EVER. EIGHT MONTHS--that’s how long it’s been.

I also started a new job in the fall, which is fantastic, but I’m teaching a subject I’ve never taught before so it has been a lot of work getting the course in order and teaching four days a week. And then the Swedish government finally told me I had to go back to the US in the middle of November, so that was a whole ordeal.

And to top it all of, my computer, which I’ve now had since 2014 began to slowly die this year. The battery has long been dead, but then sometime in the summer when I was in the midst of the most intense dissertation writing, the keyboard developed a mind of its own and started refusing to respond and then typing by itself at random (specifically the “t” key, then the “e” key...). This made for a very exciting time (lol), but it got me through the dissertation defense and all the way back the US, at which point I decided enough is enough, and finally had the time to order myself a new one (which I now have, yay!!!)

The good news is... now that I have finally moved back into my house, and FINALLY finished teaching and grading for the term, and FINALLY got a new computer I can actually type on, I CAN FINALLY WORK ON OFD AGAIN!!!!!

I’m annoyed by one last hurdle in life which is that the internet at my house in the US is HORRIBLE (it’s so bad I can never go on tumblr because it just won’t load) so I need to upgrade to a different provider, (this is why I have not been on tumblr at all lately) but happily bad internet in no way affects my writing so I am here to tell you THAT I AM IN THE FINISHING STAGES OF EDITING THE NEWEST CHAPTER.

My plan was originally to try and finish it before Christmas Eve so I could post the new chapter as a Christmas gift to you all, in this shitty, shitty year, but I was not able to get it done in time. HOWEVER! I am hoping to get it up in the next couple days, so I hope it may still act as a belated Christmas gift of sorts.

There was an interesting contrast this week between anime only viewers’ and manga readers’ reaction to the episode. Anime only viewers overwhelmingly felt positively about the episode. But for manga manga readers, many of the cuts in the anime dampened their enjoyment of the episode, and for some ruined it entirely. Still, overall, the episode got positive reception, even if it wasn’t overwhelmingly enthusiastic.

It was... Fine. I'll give it a solid 8/10 on emotional value and finally seeing these chapters animated. But accepting that the anime and manga are not the same and that there will be cuts is hard.

The much-anticipated scene where we learn amputee-kun is actually Eren was the most favored of the episode, with 37.5% of the vote. Following behind that with more narrow margins were the introduction to Marley’s titans, Annie and Reiner’s fight and Reiner’s suicide attempt.

The first part was very rushed and I wasn't as impressed by it. But I was very impressed by the second part of the episode once the warrior kids made it to paradise. I also very much enjoyed how they animated the scene of Annie taking out her anger on Reiner after Marcel's death. There was just something about the use of colours that really appealed to me.

The Reiner and Annie fight and Reiner's suicide disturbed me a lot more this time around, partially because I haven't read the chapters in a while, but this is easily one of my favorite episodes now.

The song and the animation are truly beautiful and gorgeous. I couldn't imagine better. It is always so peaceful after the full of emotions episode.

A very tiny fraction of voters weren’t impressed with the way MAPPA executed the scene that introduces us to the Marley titans and why each warrior was picked for the titans they received. However, the majority of respondents felt very positively about the scene, with 221 even feeling they, too, will become a titan as a result of the awesomeness.

This race was a close one, with the Female Titan holding on just slightly over the Jaw Titan in terms of favoritism. The Armored Titan came in at a distant third with the Beast Titan and Colossal closely behind. Only a very small fraction would like to inherit the Cart Titan from Piku-chan.

WHICH OG WARRIOR CANDIDATE WOULD YOU WANT TO ADOPT? 299 Responses

Overall, the majority (29.1%) wouldn’t want to adopt any of the OG warrior crew, whether because the responsibility is too much or because they don’t like kids at all (or perhaps, a missing third option being they don’t like any of them). But for those who would happily take on one of the OG warrior kiddos, 24.1% would most like to take Reiner home (and probably give him lots of hugs). 21.1% adore little Pieck and would shower her with parental love forever. 9.7% probably want to pinch little Bertolt’s cheeks, and 8.4% wish they’d adopted Annie instead of her father.

The majority of respondents felt positively enough about seeing WIT’s S1 style mixed in with MAPPA’s, with 42.9% feeling it flowed together well enough, and 26.4% understanding why they didn’t reanimate the event (despite preferring it if they had). 11.2% don’t care at all, and 8.6% think it was way too jarring. There are some who are reminded that they miss WIT’s style, and others who have a continued appreciation for MAPPA.

KAJI YUKI HAS LOWERED HIS VOICE A BIT TO DEPICT AN OLDER EREN. THOUGHTS? 301 Responses

Overall, nearly everyone seems to be pleased with Kaji Yuki’s more “mature” sounding Eren, with 76.4% feeling he is portraying an older and more jaded Eren perfectly. 11.6% are lost in their lust for a 2D drawing and are focused entirely on that (we understand lol). A few are simply indifferent to the lower tone, and a smaller percentage just prefer Eren’s voice prior to the timeskip.

Whether it’s recency bias or objectively true, 44.6% feel that MAPPA’s take on Marcel’s death was the best. 30.4% feel that Isayama’s more recent art style truly does Marcel the most justice. 14.2% liked the way WIT Studio portrayed the scene and 10.8% like Isayama’s older, more grungy art style.

DO YOU THINK THAT REINER WAS CORRECT, THAT MARLEY WOULD HAVE HAD ALL OF RBA EATEN IF THEY HAD FOUND YMIR AND RETURNED HOME IMMEDIATELY? 292 Responses

In the hypothetical scenario that Reiner hadn’t convinced Annie and Bertolt to stay on the island, the majority feel that Reiner was wrong in his assessment that they would be executed practically on-site. 55.1% believe that the idea would have been out in the open, but ultimately rejected. Though, 35.6% feel that Marley is too ruthless and uncaring toward Eldians to care what the situation is, and would absolutely hand over their titans to others deemed more capable. Very few felt Marley would be understanding by default. Many write-ins feel that Reiner is the only one who would have been executed for the failure.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT MAPPA CUTTING A GOOD CHUNK OF REINER’S TRAINING? 302 Responses

With only 20(ish) minutes to fit in all of Reiner’s backstory, cuts were inevitable. MAPPA made the decision to nerf most of Reiner’s struggles training as a Warrior Cadet (among a couple other more lengthy scenes during and after the wall breach). 62.9% are sad that some of these scenes didn’t make the cut, but also understand that we can’t have it all. 13.2% actually preferred seeing Reiner’s backstory in MAPPA’s condensed version, while 12.9% feel it completely ruins the characterization of the warriors.

MAPPA cannot animate every panel and the best will be, if fandom finally understands that. Every episode has limited amount of time and MAPPA is doing everything they can to make episodes good and easy to understand for anime onlies. I was fine with cutting because I know that episodes aren't long and there are more important stuff to animate than every part of training.

MAPPA completely glossed over Annie’s role in the wall breach, showing her being choked by Reiner and then waking up in the refugee camp later. 40.9% state they would have preferred seeing Annie play her part in the mission, though they accept that it isn’t there. 34.6% are concerned that those who don’t read the manga will just be confused as to where Annie was during all of the chaos (Oh no! Did RB leave her passed out in the fields!?). 16.1% are simply just disappointed altogether. A small fraction felt it wasn’t necessary anyway and have no problems with the cut.

Annie, in an attempt to cover up why she’s stalking Kenny in the underground, claims (or jokes) that she was born to a brothel worker and is Kenny’s lost daughter. We asked if this made the joke any less funny to readers, though most of them didn’t think so at all. Only 14% of respondents say the new knowledge actually makes it a little sad. Some people forgot entirely that Annie is adopted and voiced their confusion in the write-ins.

With such a weighty scene, execution is of utmost importance. So we were curious if you guys felt that MAPPA hit the mark. Overall, MAPPA’s take on this scene got positive responses from the fandom, with 42.4% feeling they felt about the same as they did when the scene came up in the manga. 26.5% actually thought that MAPPA did a better job with the scene, whereas 26.2% felt that Isayama’s original take on the scene is still superior.

I think that while the manga's intent is for the reader to feel Reiner's pain and emotions during what he thought were his last moments, the anime focuses much more on making it disturbing and depressing (both taking into account the same things, just choosing to highlight different aspects of the scene). Not a bad change but I prefer the manga's portayal, it made me feel so much more attached to Reiner

While we shouldn’t dwell on cuts too much, there will still be things that people are disappointed didn’t make it into the anime. The scenes which were most missed this week were Annie’s role in the wall breach, Reiner passing along a tired Annie over to Bertolt atop the wall, RBA discussing their infiltration plans in the field (also known as the tree-uprooting scene), seeing Bertolt, Annie and Marcel surpassing Reiner in their training, and Reiner breaking up Eren and Jean’s fight (noticing Annie is exhausted). Well, at least the manga still exists, right?

I wish they didnt cut some of the flashbacks right before Reiner tried to kill himself.

Any cuts are a negative. I dont care how much it makes sense for the anime onlies, I just wish they somehow incorporate some of the small slice of life scenes that made the Marley arc special.

I still hold the sentiment that Mappa is cutting way too much from these episodes. The amount of small details getting cut from every chapter/episode results in losing out on smaller moments that in my opinion have a real impact. While I understand a 1 to 1 replica might not be possible, the amount of cuts is too much imo. Missing out on nearly all of RBA assaulting Shiganshina was a huge disappointment, and less Falco and Gabi scenes makes it tough for me to connect to them. Talking to my Anime-only friends though, they are very into this season, so I'm glad to hear it works for them.

While the Falbi romance isn’t a major focal point of the series, it does play a big part in their storyline and overall character development as their involvement in the plot increases. MAPPA has had to let a few scenes go, so we were curious if manga readers felt it would lessen the impact of Falco’s inevitable confession just before the rumbling starts. 31.4% feel that the anime is doing just fine at portraying Falco’s feelings. 28.4% feel the impact will be lessened, but that it’s fine due to it being a minor plot point anyway. 14.5% are upset about the missing pieces and 11.8% think MAPPA will make up for it later. Smaller groups of voters either don’t understand why Falco likes Gabi or just don’t care.

DO YOU THINK MAPPA DID A GOOD JOB OF HIDING EREN IN PLAIN SIGHT? 297 Responses

We failed to ask this question last week, but it still applied well to this week’s episode. When it came to anime only fans, we wondered whether manga readers felt MAPPA did a good job at making him as mysterious to anime watchers as Isayama did to us manga readers. 40.1% felt that MAPPA did a great job, as many anime watchers didn’t seem to catch on. 25.6% feel that they didn’t do any worse or better than Isayama did. 13.8% feel MAPPA did not do as well as Isayama, as some anime watchers easily caught on. 9.4% think they did completely awful at pretending it’s not Eren. Some write-ins felt we couldn’t objectively judge this as we already knew it was Eren anyway.

I think the voice gave it away the most. The sneaky animation was great!

When Eren was finally revealed in the manga, I was *shocked! I had *no clue that was him! I think the anime did a great job, but of course had to reveal him sooner. It was perfect both in manga and anime imo.

It's obviously him once you see his eyes, but I don't think that the animation team were trying to make it a big shock reveal, they want this scene to say "this is probably Eren, but can you be 100% sure" to keep anime onlys engaged and reassure them that the main cast is still relevant.

HOW WAS KAJI YUKI’S DELIVERY ON EREN’S SPEECH TO FALCO? 299 Responses

The vast majority of respondents were very pleased with Kaji Yuji’s delivery on one of Eren’s most prominent speeches. 38.1% felt it was exactly as they had hoped it would be. 28.1% were extremely happy, and feel that any delivery by Kaji Yuki as Eren will be 100% spot-on. 24.7% are simply just content with it. Smaller fragments of respondents just wanted to voice their thirst, or felt that the delivery could have been better.

Eren already knows he will bring destruction upon the world, so it’s a wonder why he would bother telling Falco he hopes Falco will have a long life. 64.8% believe that he truly means it from the bottom of his heart, despite knowing his future actions will likely affect Falco. 10.7% believe he said this because he has already seen that Falco will survive the Rumbling. 10.1% aren’t really sure what to make of it at all. Smaller numbers of people think Eren was only trying to gain Falco’s trust and didn’t mean it at all, or believe that Falco will take part in Eren’s eventual demise and Eren is already aware of that.

I'm sure there is part of Eren that hopes for a good long life for Falco. Just like there was part of him that couldn't help but save the refugee kid. But that doesn't mean he isn't any less dedicated to his plan to genocide a whole lot of people. He has his conflicts, but in the end he's still going ahead with the attack on the square and later with the rumbling.

I think it's the same deal as him saving the immigrant kid when he knew that he would die in the rumbling.

In an ideal world Eren would want *everyone* to live a long life--he's been portrayed as someone who cries and disassociates while he commits his genocide so we're meant to understand he doesn't enjoy it. Sadly it doesn't matter what he hopes or wants when he's decided murdering everyone is what has to be done..

THE PREVIEW SHOWED PIECK AND PORCO NEXT TO REINER AT THE DAYTIME FESTIVAL. THIS WAS NOT IN THE MANGA. WHAT DO YOU THINK THIS MEANS ABOUT POSSIBLE ANIME-ONLY ADDITIONS? 298 Responses

Many of our respondents seem to be looking forward to Pieck and Porco’s inclusion in the daytime festival. 47% are hopeful that this will mean some wholesome bonding scenes between the Warriors and the kids. 26.5% don’t know what to make of it, but are looking forward to it nonetheless. A handful of people think it will be similar to how WIT included Sasha in the Clash arc - adding minor details without changing anything in the story-line. 7% wish that MAPPA wasn’t doing this at all, and 5% are hopeful this means that MAPPA will find a way to repurpose Pieck crawling on all fours next episode.

Who wants to place bets on the contents of next episode? While the largest chunk of people don’t know what to expect in episode 4, others are happy to speculate. 19.8% feel (or are at least hopeful) that MAPPA will fill in some screen time by repurposing already-skipped scenes. 19.1% feel that there will be minor additions, but not too much. A solid 16% feel that there will be a few anime only additions during the daytime festival. 10.9% are placing bets that episode 4 will actually bleed into chapter 100 before the end.

The title "From One Hand to Another" immediately made me think we would actually be getting Eren grasping Reiner's hand and transforming at the end (meaning chapters 100 and 101), but that's just so much. The title may just refer to Magath and Willy's handshake.

Reiner and Eren’s reunion is the most anticipated scene for episode 4, with 74.8% having voted for that. 17.1% are most looking forward to the daytime festival, and 6% are excited to meet Willy in anime form for the first time. One commenter is very invested in the banquet and how it’s executed.

I'm upset so much was cut from Reiner's backstory but the cinematography is freakin' excellent I can't even complain

*cheers MAPPA animators for their hard work* ... Perfect for anime onlies, I think. Made me almost wish I hadn't read the manga so I wouldn't have missed the cut scenes.

Cuts aside, the animation was much better than the previous episodes.

"The one scene I really wanted was Bertholdt looking over the wall and seeing the EMA trio. Of all the cuts, I think that was the only one that was damaging to the story. I also kind of wish that MAPPA animated the reused scenes. I kind of like comparing and contrasting the animation styles of both studios so its a bit of shame that we didn't get anything new from Episode 1.

I'm really impressed with how much MAPPA is managing to squeeze in each episode and I'm content that Reiner's flashback was covered in a single episode rather than two. It just makes sense pacing-wise. The only real criticism I have is that in the flashback scenes where everyone is supposed to be 12 years old, they don't sound 12 at all. Their voices are way too mature, especially the males, and I understand they're voiced by adults, but I feel like they could have at least tried to sound more like kids. Other than that, great episode.

Elaborating on the missing content: they really shouldn’t have cut Annie’s transformation prior to wall Maria being breached. It makes it look like Reiner choked her out and then a minute later bert was kicking the wall through.

I'm in the boat, where i think it wouldve been better if Mappa didnt cut out so much, but considering what there is to cover, we will live,but i hope they dont end up butchering everything Also the bit with reiner’s dad would be confusing to anime-onlies since it cross-cuts between that scene and him on the parade. I’ve seen some reactors think it was a daydream, or that he left during the parade.

It was quite rushed, but I understand why they did it, the flashback wouldn't have been as impactful over 2 episodes, and I do think when the Marley arc was first introduced in the manga, manga readers were quite inpatient to get back to the main cast, so they might be feeding off that feedback.

Mappa has become my favorite studio of all time. Not just in regards to anime, but studios in general. Their discography is on another level (imo) and the fact that on top of every other masterpiece they’ve made, they’re doing an outstanding job with my favorite series of all time just solidifies them as the first and probably the only anime studio that I can truly Stan.

Lots of (I think) Important stuff cut, but the meat is still in place. I like my meat to be juicy and marbled, while Mappa cut out all the fat that makes for a flavorful meal. I completely understand why and I am apathetic about it.

Regardless of the cuts, i think it flows together nicely. The anime has always been more speedy than the manga so i kind of expected this. I don't think it'll get as bad as s3 part 1 in terms of pacing. I trust in Mappa, so far i haven't been disappointed at all. The animation and backgrounds are absolutely stunning. That warrior titan sequence was incredibly well done. Props to the animators!

It was a bit confusing mishmash of scenes, but there were some good moments sprinkled in like the introduction of all of Marley's titans. The emotional reactions, however, just weren't the same as they were when reading the manga, to be honest.

I’m really glad they cut the part with RBA hanging onto Female/Armoured neck by a rope. That whole thing seemed stupid to me. Doesn’t match up with previous chapters and I feel like SOMEONE would have noticed two kids hanging onto the Armoured Titan’s neck.

I think MAPPA is doing a really good job so far, can't wait to see the battle in Liberio. I'm not bothered at all with the CG titans because firstly, they look really good, and secondly, I understand why they had to do it. I also hope they don't censor many things or cut out some dark scenes that are important to the season because I would love to see everything animated.

Felt like watching a recap episode... And it wasn't supposed to be one, so

I'm really dissapointed that mappa cut so many things from manga. Reiner's backstory is my favoure part of snk. Suicide scene completly lacks impact.

I really dislike the fact that MAPPA is trying to show only bad side of the marleyan officers. They removed the gate guards, they removed the scene where Magath is telling RBA to stay safe (on Paradis). One of the best parts of the manga is showing that the both races (Eldians and Marleyans) have good and bad sides. By removing positive aspects of Marleyans MAPPA is creating totally different picture. This way the anime onlines may find the whole rumbling even more justified. The episode was pretty good and the OST has made some scenes to feel more dark and serious (especially the moment where the new titans are introduced), but sometimes I feel like the characters are speaking and acting way too fast. I was waiting for the scene with Kenny and Annie, but it took only like few second and was cut. I love MAPPA's version of Kenny. He has more serious aura and looks more like his manga counterpart. In other words; wrinkled grandpa with skinny neck :)

It honestly wasn’t my favorite, but I still loved it. I feel as though they skipped around a lot and there wasn’t a lot of scenes that actually tied together and I’m worried anime only watchers might get confused. Definitely some of the stuff I wanted to see animated didn’t make the cut, but I still love the animation style, the characters and the story!

Wedding preparations

Most of the wedding planning and preparations were done by Nadia and the palace. The couple had ‘a vision’ and Nadia seemed to be the best person to take care of the execution - she was rather excited.

Valerius told everybody that he decides on wine and the ceremony location, passed the list of guests from his side and did his best to appear as busy as possible to avoid any further involvement.

Ev told everybody that she was not a control freak (lol) and felt pretty relaxed about the whole thing. The very same evening Portia had to check every envelope with the wedding invitations and remove personalised notes which were clearly added to some of the invites by Ev. Few examples include: “please try not to get shitfaced at our wedding”, “kindly be advised that the wedding dress code includes (emphasised) a bra”, and “please don’t feel pressured to attend”. Extra ‘0’ also appeared in the quantity section of Valerius’s wine order (not like he complained)

Talking about ‘pretty relaxed’ - as soon as post hen/bachelorette party haze had cleared in Ev’s head, she realised that she did not enjoy public attention that much and she was mildly terrified of the idea of half of (in fact, more like whole of) Vesuvia being aware of her personal life. Strangely enough, she did not have this thought earlier, when the massive banner “That B*tch is getting hitched! Closed on xx.xx - private hire for Ev’s party" appeared above the Rowdy Raven's entrance the very moment some of the ‘bridesmaids’ were given a green light about the party. Anyway, the panic continued...

Valerius was ...nervous. Not like he started doubting the whole decision but he suddenly started thinking that nothing was done right. Were they courting long enough before? Not long enough but went too far? He didn’t ask her parents first - now, forget the courting, that was bad. Where were her parents anyway?

When Ev’s parents actually arrived, Valerius wished she didn’t get in touch with her family for the first time in like 10 years. Why did her family suddenly have so many wedding traditions, the majority of which involved either doing something ridiculous for Ev’s mum or drinking with her father..? ‘Foreign customs’ Valerius had to repeat to himself.

So to make at least something right, he decided that they couldn’t see each other the day before the wedding. And maybe not to stay in the same bedroom for few nights, just to be sure?! Did they spend at least three days arguing about it? They certainly did.

The day of the wedding

The morning of the wedding Ev got separation anxiety a strange feeling that Valerius would not turn up on time- he most definitely got drunk and slept in, she thought. Everybody was telling her that Valerius had never been late in his life but it was not convincing enough for her. She kept demanding wine for nerves and that somebody go to check on him. Why did they not allocate an ‘escort’ for the groom? This was a very good question, somehow everybody presumed that Valerius would have..friends? Or that somebody would volunteer? Didn’t happen. Somehow the only available individual who was not busy and somewhat fit for the job turned out to be ... Valdemar?! Valdemar didn’t care and didn’t want to move an inch until they heard Ev’s “and if the busta - *everybody’s wild protests* tries to run away, you can drag him to dungeons and I don’t care what you do !!!” - *sparkles in the red eyes* “as the bride wishes” - Valdemar was on the way.

Valerius was actually ready when Valdemar arrived, and wasn’t in the particularly bad state - he only verbally abused his servants the entire morning, but when it was time to leave, the signature look of complete disinterest was back. The only Valdemar’s contribution to the wedding was that they removed the wine glass from Valerius’s hand on the way out of the estate.

The ceremony was taking place in one of Vesuvia’s many temples, which was chosen by Valerius. It was the same temple his parents got married in. The formal part of the ceremony (much to Vlastomil’s relief) was to be conducted by Nadia (who also did a very long poetry reading nobody asked for) and the temple official.

Valerius was waiting at the temple’s entrance for Ev to arrive as they were to walk ‘down the aisle’ together. All of the guests has already gathered inside and even outside of temple. Valerius was lost in thoughts wondering what kind of gossip was going around the rows of nobles when Ev’s carriage arrived. Was he left speechless when he saw Ev? Yes and no, he hadn’t actually thought about what she would look like on the wedding day but somehow presumed that for the wedding of this scale the dress would be more extravagant - it was surprisingly simple, all beige only with the glint of gold coming through the lace on the chest and waist, but it was elegant, so very her and looked bare on her body. Luckily the walk from the carriage to the temple entrance was not long, and his thoughts didn’t wonder too far.

The moment they stepped inside and made the first step towards the altar, an audible gasp echoed across the temple: the large room was now filled with delicate clouds glimmering gold and the water started flooding the way to the altar. Valerius gave Ev questioning look, he would of preferred to be notified of any kind of witchcraft in advance. But it was not planned by her - it was a surprise present from Ev’s parents who were keen to make a statement about the bride’s family heritage. The look of the couple literally walking on water reflecting the warm light of many temple’s candles certainly made an impact. Ev had to gently squeeze Valerius’s hand for reassurance.

They both were wearing the golden leaf wreath like headpieces which were to be tied together with red ribbon during the ceremony - as it was the tradition from where Ev was coming from.

The vows were formal (though Ev’s voice was still trembling and people in the front rows might of noticed tears in her eyes) and the kiss was rather modest. As soon as they were pronounced husband and wife, the shimmering clouds cleared, the temple interior suddenly became brighter and thousands of red rose petals became falling from the temple’s dome. On that point Valerius decided that he rather enjoyed all those magical dramatic touches - being married to the witch wasn’t that bad after all.

The celebration and the party part was in the palace. The palace’s ballroom and garden were decorated gold with the touches of red. The palace’s stuff were slightly bewildered by the sheer quantity of wine but the guests loved it. Ev and Valerius spent most of the time politely greeting the guests. At least 10 people were instructed to count how many glasses they had. It was rather tame in the beginning. Everybody was strictly prohibited from telling any even slightly embarrassing stories about the newly weds.

The couple disappeared for a little more than once during the celebration, coming back and pretending that they’ve been there the whole time and whoever was stupid enough to ask question just had too many.

Valerius and Ev left the celebration early and missed some of the highlights of their wedding, like: Ev’s dad, Namar and almost all of the bridal party doing twerk battle, Nadia’s face when Valerius’s mother was criticising the colour of tablecloths, Julian setting the curtains on fire with the fireworks and half of the guests trying to stop the fire with wine - hey there was clearly more wine than water at that wedding.

They were glad that they did not hesitate to leave early - it took Valerius at least 20 minutes to undo all those torturous buttons at the back of Ev’s dress.

So... Let's talk about Hetalia. Controversies, Specifically.

Tagging @apply-force-too-begin since they’re the one who was interested.

Hetalia was one of my first big fandoms outside of 'The Big Three' anime (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) and outside of video games (mostly whatever wee babby weeaboo me could get on the Gamecube).

And, you know what? It's a dumb, silly anime about stereotypes, poking fun at the absurdities of History, and one's relationships with clashing cultures. It's dumb... But, remember, we all need our daily thirty minutes of dumb. And some of the characters are cute.

And, you know what? Most of the most engaging aspects of the fandom were those who used the initial shallow splash of history that the anime gave them to actually research and make engaging, well-written, culturally-sensitive content.

Of course, I'm not going to ignore how... Over-the-top some members of the fandom have been. We've seen how, whenever recent political conflict or natural disaster have occurred, we have to remind younger members of the Hetalia fandom to not cutsiefy it with the Hetalia characters. Examples that come to mind are: when the conflict between Russia and Ukraine was surging up, kids kept trying to draw art of 'Russia just wants his big sister back~!', and the last major earthquake that hit Japan that had people making fanart of the Japan character which, while some was tasteful and was meant to bring awareness and donations for Disaster Relief, not... all of it was...

Hell, that’s not even bringing into account the last time I went to Anime Expo (way back during Hetalia’s hayday), I was walking around and saw a bunch of Russia and Baltic State cosplayers being interviewed by the news and the one dressed up in a USSR uniform was holding up a Communist flag and shouting ‘Whoo! SOVIET TAKEOVER!!’

However, one thing that I have noticed, while researching for this write-up, was this:

Most of the controversies and pieces of fandom-wank that have surrounded Hetalia and its fandom... Aside from one instance... Are the results of the Western-fandom and Western-localization of the anime via Funimation.

Aside from one... Most of the issues surrounding Hetalia are due to the West and not even the source media in of itself.

So, with that in mind, let's talk about the main controversies of both Hetalia and its fanbase.

Controversy 1 – The South Korea Controversy/Protests

As I recently answered a question about this, so I'll just pull that answer for this segment:

'To summarize it: there’s a Hetalia character meant to represent South Korea. As every Hetalia character has a gag related to them (America gorges himself on fast food and constantly proclaims himself to be the Hero, Italy is cowardly, Germany is constantly angry, China constantly builds Chinatowns wherever he goes and sells bootleg merchandise, etc), so did S. Korea.

His gag was calling all the other Asian countries ‘big brother’ as well as groping the chests of male characters (China and Japan mostly), proclaiming ‘these mountains belong to South Korea, da ze!’

Of course, people would draw pictures of S. Korea doing his thing but one day during a meeting between a bunch of South Korean politicians and representatives, someone brought out a piece of fanart that depicted S. Korea groping Japan’s chest with the latter looking embarrassed and what not.

They interpreted the character as being an offensive, lecherous stereotype that was somehow belittling S. Korea’s worth as a country.

There were a bunch of small protests until, finally, Himaruya Hidekazu (the creator of Hetalia) just decided to say “you know what? Fine! I’m not getting rid of the character but he’ll never appear in the anime adaptation, okay?!’

So… Yeah! Fun times…'

Magnitude of Controversy – MAJOR

Like... In what universe is 'this meme hurt my feewings, we need to take VALUABLE TIME DURING GOVERNMENT FORUMS to talk about it RATHER THAN OTHER PRESSING ISSUES' a good response? And the fact that people took to the streets to protest? Come on, guys! There's so much more to worry about in this world...

Controversy 2 – Emperor Heliogabalus and Himaruya's 'Transgender Erasure'

There was a section of time where Himaruya Hidekazu, rather than focusing on the nation characters of the series, made chapters and updates about certain historical figures. They were all done for laughs while interspersing various bits of trivia and facts about them.

One of these updates centered around the Roman emperor Heliogabalus (or 'Elagabalus'). And this is where certain portions of this hellsite got soooooo upset...

You see, Himaruya titled the update centered on Heliogabalus as 'The Emperor Who Tried to Live as a Woman... Even Though He Was Really a Guy'.

Almost immediately people were typing up callout posts about how 'transphobic' Himaruya was for the title and 'how dare he misgender my precious trans baby~!' or 'this just goes to show how ignorant Japanese people are to Western history' and so many more, all because Himaruya didn't use out-and-out female pronouns for Heliogabalus.

Now. Mm, two things!

One! This was during the time when Himaruya had an open blog where, not only did he post pictures and updates about where in the world he was traveling and what he was researching, but it also had an inbox that was open for people to send insight to him.

So, if people were really incensed by this, you would think that they would use such a means to let a creator know 'hey, this is kind of problematic; can you edit it to show this information', right?

Right?

NO ONE tried to inform Himaruya of their upset; they literally didn't want an answer, they just wanted to be upset!

But, here's the kicker: the guy that all of these people were stanning for? Emperor Heliogabalus?

WASN'T FUCKING TRANS!!

The real Heliogabalus was a sadistic little shit who was connivingly put on the throne by his mother via a bunch of espionage and assassinations... Who, as thanks, had his own mother murdered once he was emperor. Other wonderful exploits of this 'icon' that tumblr kids decided to stan was:

Getting politicians and countrymen drunk and then, while they were passed out, brought in lions to kill and eat them

Deciding 'fuck Jupiter, Helios is my husbando – We're all going to worship him now!'

Completely wrecking Rome's monetary system

Promising favors to his lovers (whom he called his 'husbands' despite not making anything official) that strictly contradicted favors to his other lovers

And just generally being a hot mess

So... why were tumblr children so insistent on him being a transgender woman?

You ready for this?

Okay.

Because he occaisionally dressed in women's clothing and called his male lovers his 'husbands'.

Yeah.

One of the earliest case of tumblr children trying to ruin someone's life because they didn't follow their headcanons.

Magnitude of Controversy – Honestly, this was just fandom-wank. But it was one of the earlier instances of fandom brats using serious terms (transphobia) to justify being upset at a creator not following their headcanons.

Controversy 3 – The Passover Photoshoot

Everytime I remember or have to go over this one, I have to stop and reflect; maybe grab a drink.

Okay.

So, pretty early into the Western reaches of the Hetalia fandom, a group of friends and Hetalia fans decided to meet up together at a mall for a cosplay photoshoot.

Okay. Cool. Fine.

They were all dressed up as their favorite characters from the series! Germany, Austria, Hungary, P-Prussia, Holy... Roman Empire...

Ahem. Okay. Cool. Fine.

So, they get to the mall and start taking pictures. But then someone in the group gets the amazing idea for everyone to do certain poses.

I... You know, why did I start this, I could have just not done thi--

Nazi salutes. You had a bunch of dumb kids dressed up as Germanic nations. Performing Nazi salutes and shouting 'Heil Hitler'.

Now, as bad as this was... you could have just drawn it out as shitty edgelord humor; we still have plenty of that going on today.

H-however. There were two factors that made this photoshoot 50 Shades of Tasteless.

Number one. This photoshoot took place during Passover.

And number two. The mall that this photoshoot took place at...

WAS JUST A HOP, SKIP, AND A JUMP FROM THE UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MUSEUM!!!

This is the one, THE ONE, instance where, anytime someone talks about 'lol, young Hetalia fans are so cringey', this is what pops into my head.

Those of us older members of the fandom can never fucking forget this. Yeah, the perpetrators were called out; yeah, they learned their lessons, yeah it opened up a conversation about appropriate behavior in fandom. But this one event will always remain as the big 'Ooh, baby, nooooo! What are you doing?!' moment in the fandom.

Even moreso than what the current batch of hatedum is about.

Magnitude of Controversy – Huge. The South Korea controversy was discussed on a governmental scale, but the Passover Photoshoot is what remains as the biggest mark on the fandom.

Controversy 4 - FUCKING FUNIMATION!!

Okay, I...

This one is so infuriating because it’s the result of Funimation just not giving a DAMN.

So, Hetalia got popular enough to be localized! Yay... And it was going to be handled by Funimation. Yay... They do quality work... Sometimes.

*kicks the Black Butler dub into the sun*

So, they dubbed Hetalia. And, you know what? So many questionable decisions went into this fucking dub.

You have Vic Mignogna! You! *clap* Have! *clap* Vic! *clap* Mignogna! You could have easily put him as one of the Axis characters or the Allied characters and you...

Don’t use him...

Until three seasons down the line...

And then you have him as Greece.

A character who barely says anything.

... And this was WAY before the clusterfuck of KickVic, so they really had no excuse.

Oh, also! For China, who is a main character, maybe we should have an actual voice-actor?

Pssh! Fuck that shit, let’s just have some random chick from accounting voice him.

... They literally had some random-chick from accounting do an overly stereotypical Chinese accent and said ‘yeah, that’s fine; print!’

And she gave us such... wonderful line-reads as: during the Hetalia movie Paint It, White! --

“SUCK BALLS! I knew za fortune cookie today was bad ruck~!”

But as bad as the dub got sometimes (Oh God, I’m having war flashbacks of Russia...), the exchange from the dub that people constantly point to as ‘see! This show was antisemitic all along!’ were these:

Exchange 1 -

S. Italy/Romano - ‘Hey asshole, I have a surprise for you~!’

Germany - ‘What is it? Another Jew?’

And, you know what? As asinine and idiotic as that brief exchange was...

IT WASN’T IN THE ORIGINAL MATERIAL!

Funimation, in their infinite wisdom, wrote that in and thought ‘yeah, that’s fine; print!’

So, there goes another issue of ‘problem that only existed because of the idiocy of a Western presence’.

Magnitude of Controversy - Well, people are still talking about it, despite it literally being because of Funimation’s laziness, so...

'Controversy' 5 – The Civil War fanart

So, this segment will be short because it doesn't even need to exist. But, you may have noticed an upsurge in people hating on the series again; even going so far as to raid Discord servers for fans of the series with gore.

Hell, I even scrolled past one person doing a 'call to arms' for people to spam any server that has to do with Hetalia as a big 'gotcha'.

And you wanna know where this fandom-wank started?

Someone on tumblr re-posted an old piece of... questionable chibi fanart of Confederate!America and Union!America. Union!America is hiding a slave woman behind him while shouting at Confederate!America to 'Pick your own damn cotton!'

(deep breath... okay)

And, while the art in of itself is... not great, the fact that it is an old piece of fanart and that someone posted it onto tumblr for the 'lol, look at this cringe' lolz, is what rallied some people to start shitting on fans of the show and raiding servers.

There also may have been some drama over on picrew by some teenage LGBT user lashing out at the whole 'stop spamming Picrew with gay shit' sentiment and then some edgelord over on this hellsite screencapping their game and talking about 'lol, of course it would be a cringey Hetalian to post some dumb shit like this; get off the site, queer' but, honestly, this last one, while being the reason why people are acting dumber than usual, is the most inconsequential.

Magnitude of the Controversy – It would be minimal at best, especially compared to the other ones in this write-up, but like I said, it does have some trickling into the current hatedumb.
