im mad enough to make 2nd post and I barely post ever. this show was never high tv but this ep rly spat in the face of everything i liked about it. usually i try to be positive but here you got random list of all things terrible in no particular order (vaguelly chronologic who knows)

ALSO I dont take them probably assuming they would have more eps and then scrambling to fit the story in one episode as decent excuse... the stakes they set up in ep7 werent impossible to fix with one ep, they just wrote terrible episode

ed's entire character arc of 2 seasons being rolled into tiny ball and thrown in the trash. and no he isnt slipping or spiralling again, it isnt him being hot protective husband, this is him, character who spent 2 seasons trying and failing to be better and finally decided that the healthiest thing to do is to just drop the lifestyle that brings out the worst in him and pursue simple life THROWING IT OUT after finding out its not as easy as he assumed and he would have to work for it??? incredible fucking message david jenkins, if being better version of yourself is just lil bit inconvenient its not worth it go back to your crappy ways.

and NO its not him slipping, the tone of this whole thing is very distinctly victorious. and also NO the path he took now is not in any way different or better than the one he left. there is even fun triumphant vibe to him KILLING PEOPLE which was always treated as sth BAD for him??? literally absolute nonsense

what the fuck was that plot?? why are all pirates arrested?? when all they did was sink those ships?? i know this show tends to be cooky and silly and cartoony, but this was just absolutely random unexplained jump of stakes.

WHERE THE FUCK are all the other husbands of jackie. this is barely valid complaint but this stupid ep rly makes it look like swede is her only husband and I dont appreciate it

why the unholly hell did they spend entire season actually setting up crew as important, give them their own opinions and relationships to their captains, have izzy even mention that THE CREW is what its all about.... and then have them barely have any speaking roles in this episode and 0 plot relevance

ed being there while he dies??? this truly makes me just feel like they killed him only so in hypoteticky s3 they can woobify poor ed some more... or even give him excuse to be narrativelly clean of any atrocities he does in name of revenge

but it makes no. fucking. sense. ed shluldnt be there saying ur my only family, ed has not treated izzy as family ONCE in this entire show, ed barely talked to izzy after first 3 episodes, he is NOT the person on that ship who cares about izzy the most of all. if anyone should be there while he fucking DIES its the crew. who has shown constantly through this season that they care about him, who he made whole speech about in THIS SAME EPISODE. im sorry frenchie did NOT carry izzy back on the ship to drop him on the floor and have ed who I REPEAT HAS NOT SHOWN HE CARES ABOUT HIM AS MORE THAN AQUITANCE SINCE LIKE EARLY S1 be the one to be there in his last moment.

I get izzy wanting to make amends but BOTH OF THEM SHOULD BE APOLOGISING, HE SHOULDNT VE BEGGING FOR FORGIVENESS and ed shouldnt be framed as blameless in their relationship in izzy's last moment.

and what made me genuinely laugh was izzy saying that the crew is ed's family. they are literally NOT. everyone who was aboard the revenge either hates him or is scared of him, and I dont think they had enough reason to change their minds as ed hasnt rly spent any time with the crew and shown only care for stede. they are NOT ed's found family and this payoff and this found family line is so ridiculously not set up and not narrativelly deserved it makes me laugh.

overall absolutely ridiculizs episode it made me laugh and it made me angry and it also made me angry how quickly we move past that

this whole discussion falls into my biggest issue with water 7, especially when put in the context of all the other times where a straw hat left the crew: why was usopps return dependent on him chasing the strawhats, instead of them bringing him back?

and when i say this, im not referring to the immediate aftermath of luffy and usopps duel. obviously, the very next day the crew had to deal with robin being missing and being accused of attempted murder of a beloved political figure. i’m also not referring to their reunion at enies lobby because usopp was in disguise and we were in the middle of a battlefield. hell, im not even referring to when they were saying farewell to merry because they were all grieving.

my question mainly applies to the end of enies lobby, aka zoros ultimatum. admittedly, i don’t think he was wrong for giving an ultimatum, because zoro like any other straw hat was biased and bit immature during these two arcs. it’s wrong because oda not only portrayed it as morally right but also as the only way to resolve this conflict.

and it’s so irritating that he further justifies this ultimatum by creating an environment where usopp is forced to apologize, in frankly a degrading manner. which is so odd because based on the crews reaction (especially zoros) none of them wanted to leave him and none of them wanted for him to get on his literal knees and beg for forgiveness. especially when they were all aware that usopp had spent the past few days working up the courage to apologize on his own terms (which is super valid because making up with friends is hard).

as an audience, we didn’t need to witness usopp begging on his knees to know he was remorseful and that he grew as a character. there was already so many meaningful moments where that was shown. but the whole ultimatum-apology farce overshadows so much of that within the fandoms mind and it’s a huge disservice. what we really needed to see as an audience is how this conflict changed everyone and not just usopp. because the infamous argument is honestly a moment where all of the straw hats’ current flaws are shown, especially in how those flaws guide their interactions with each other.

imagine if we actually got a parallel scene of them figuring out how to actively mend their family versus them helplessly witnessing their family fall apart. could have also been a great moment to really dive into their individual philosophies and acknowledge that despite their differences, all these perspectives can and should exist within the crew.

after all, what sets the straw hats aside is that they each have their own dreams that aren’t actually contingent on luffys dream. but they actively choose to stick with him because they just believe in him and in each other that much. they are all equally devoted to one another, but that equality, unfortunately, doesn’t shine through with the ultimatum and the external conditions that forced usopp to make the choice he did.

all in all, it’s just left me with a bad taste in my mouth because from a literary standpoint, water 7/enies lobby are arguably the best arcs in one piece… except for the ending.

I wish Zosopp had more canon scenes together cause just honestly Zoro’s stance in Water 7 had my head spinning with all the different ways a direct heart to heart between the two of them could go down. Cause I think. Zoro has more unshaking faith in Usopp, his skill and his bravery, than Usopp could ever even fathom. But I think. It deeply upsets him when Usopp doesn’t grant him and the crew (and particularly himself) that same faith in return. And it’s a mix of hurt feelings and pride, and this stern sort of anger at the unfairness of it. And it’s juicy. I wanna eat it.

hi guys i apologize in advance but if you will allow me to be unhinged about characters for a moment. i have some. thoughts. about -you guessed it- tactical officer lieutenant felix gaeta of the battlestar galactica. 

i just. the mutiny arc gets me on so many levels because. it’s not a villain arc. i’ve seen in called that, but i respectfully disagree. it is simply a decision made- quite tactically may i add - by someone who has had to beg lie and kill his way out of every level of hell and is trying to prevent further disaster and despair. no, it is not perfectly executed. yes, there probably could have been another way. 

and here’s the thing: i don’t think it’s about the cylons. yes, they are a part of it; this is a man who witnessed the shitshow that was new caprica firsthand after all. but i think beyond that it is largely about faith and trust. think about it. gaeta has served in the colonial fleet for seven years. he has believed in it, he has lost everything to it because he has given everything to it. and that’s why he’s doing this! he believes in the idea still, but he can’t say the same about the people anymore. he trusted in baltar’s campaign, but he saw that crumble to dust within an instant. he was in charge of all that, probably did more in the political department than baltar ever did. and they blamed it all on him in the end. just look at Collaborators. they all agree that it was him handling things. he carries the weight of that. he put faith and hope in his Eight, only to find out much later that she had betrayed him. and she blamed it on him. she blamed it on his oh-so-human trust, his hope and his love. 

and now we get to the final five. there was too much going on for the show to truly explore how members of the fleet felt about that reveal, but... it’s tigh, who felix has served under for years, who has been something of a constant, part of the leadership duo he has followed for so long. it’s sam, who... well, shot him. not much else to say there. but it’s also the chief, who cut him some slack and was kind to him when no one else was after new caprica. these are people he has known, cared about, and trusted. he wants to trust them. and they give the fleet earth! which turns out to be a nuclear wasteland where home should have been. EARTH. KILLED. DEE. and yes, he could just go back to trusting that the leadership will take care of it, that they will find a way, but... the president has basically gone missing in action, and is not acting herself. there doesn’t seem to be anything left to hope for. and felix... he can’t put that kind of trust in someone else anymore. not after everything it’s done to him. he has only one thing left to give to this cause: himself. he has to at least try. trust in himself for once. do something himself. he could never do enough before, but maybe, maybe this time... 

his biggest crime, in the eyes of others, was that he didn’t simply break and die. that’s not who he is. 

im just. im so. im absolutely devastated by his character arc. 

OH AND I CAN’T GET OVER THINKING ABOUT WHAT IT MUST HAVE DONE TO EVERYONE WHO CARED ABOUT HIM. like. adama and tigh both cared about him a lot (adama calling him a good kid and worrying that he’ll never see him again with the demetrius mission, the way tigh says ‘so who shot gaeta??’ with such genuine accusation, and tries to get him to get some proper sleep in face of the enemy). helo, who had such a lovely friendship with him. HOSHI. don’t get me started on hoshi. i might cry.

oh hell im watching 3x18 and during his fight with buck, bobby actually tells him :

« you can’t just rush into any dangerous situation assuming it’s going to be okay, because sometimes it’s not and i’m tired of being on the wrong side of those hospital doors »

and i remembered the hospital doors line but for some reason i didn’t remember the first part, which is very relevant to our current « you think you’re invincible » vs « you act like you’re expandable » discourse

and i didn’t realise it was such a theme for bobby and buck, but really it’s the whole crux of their scenes together in season 3 even way back during the lawsuit arc

because bobby saw buck pushing himself while not completely healthy and was terrified thinking buck would be careless and assume he’d be okay no matter what and thus might end up hurt again

meanwhile buck just felt that no matter what happened to him it didn’t matter because his life is worth nothing if he’s not out there helping people, and if he dies saving someone then at least he would have been useful, if not loved

fuck but this misunderstanding between them colours so much of their relationship???

i was actually ranting at @buckactuallys the other day after watching 3x06 and the resolution to the lawsuit arc that i was so frustrated that they never talked about why bobby made the decision to bench buck. we understand from bobby’s discussions with athena and hen that he’s being overprotective because he loves buck so much and is scared of losing him (funny how both times hen and athena make parallels to the feelings a parent has for their child, at this point it’s not even subtext anymore) but he never actually tells buck that. and in fact i just rewatched the scene and we’ve got another instance of bobby telling buck he doesn’t worry about himself!!

bobby: [he’s got a fair chance] because you jumped in there and saved him. probably didn’t even occur to you to worry about yourself.

buck: yeah i know, i didn’t think, just rushed in like i always do. i guess it’s like the uniform is my costume. you know i put it on and suddenly i’m brave, i’m strong, i make a difference. feels like without it i’m not much of anything.

bobby: buck, you saved two lives without the uniform. it’s not a costume, it’s who you are.

buck: does... does this mean that you’re ready to let me back for real?

bobby: it doesn’t matter if i’m ready, you are. it’s time for me to get out of your way.

(side note: i find it interesting that buck puts on a tone when he’s saying « yeah i know: i didn’t think, just rushed in like i always do » like he’s paraphrasing bobby. it’s like he’s internalised it but he’s not actually being honest about his thought process until he’s talking about putting the uniform on.)

so we have buck still unsure and telling bobby in no uncertain terms that he feels worthless if he’s not helping people and bobby trying to reassure him without understanding what buck is actually telling him. because if he had understood then explaining to buck that he’s just scared of losing him would have seemed like the right choice to really reassure him.

but no instead we’ve got buck who goes on thinking that bobby believes him to be reckless and a pain in his ass sometimes, and bobby who goes on thinking that buck doesn’t realise he might get seriously hurt and die from that one day

buck who doesn’t know how much bobby loves him and keeps on thinking his life is not worth much, and bobby who refuses to acknowledge to himself that he loves buck like a son (again, callback to his discussions with athena and hen) because he’s terrified he might lose him to the job

if they just talked to each other openly and honestly they would lay each other’s fears and insecurities to rest and fuck, but now i feel like this is where their relationship is going maybe? because they won’t let up narratively. it comes up again in 3x18, and in some way in 4x05, and then again in 4x14. but now we’ve got on screen evidence that bobby doesn’t understand buck’s thought processes and the true extent of his low self esteem (thank you eddie my darling) and i feel like at some point something has got to give.

sorry for the rant, it’s just irritating as i have people in my family who are alcoholics, and so it’s nice to see that just because bobby is sober doesn’t mean he’s disease just magically disappears, so im really sensitive about this subject, and to see people almost kinda just dismiss it really irritates me

I mean I actively WANT Bobby to relapse because 1) he deserves a huge arc like that and 2) I love me some angst. But personal desire aside, as you said, it makes WAY TOO MUCH SENSE for them not to!

Like the s4 finale would have been just as tense if Bobby was held hostage at gunpoint WITHOUT getting shot. Athena would still have gotten her big moment. The only reason TO shoot him is to give him this arc!

And yeah I'm sorry but... ptsd arcs are no rarity. And I'd much rather see them performed by Angela and Jen, because unlike Ryan they are people who actually know how to make more than one singular expression. You could SEE the layers of their pain and trauma, you could SEE how hard they were trying to hold it together all while completely falling apart. These two actresses are literally incredible.

Meanwhile... according to Eddie stans, apparently the expression someone has when having a panic attack is the same expression that they have when they are shocked and startled because they've just been shot, which is also the exact same expression they have when they're constipated. The Range of Eddie... I guess.

Honestly? My deepest hope is that they are only doing this as a way to just write him out of the show. Because the ratings don't lie, and Every. Single. Time an episode is promoted as being Eddie-centric it FAILS! Eddie stans keep going on and on about how season 5 is the "season of Eddie", and the premiere was the premiere episode with the LEAST AMOUNT OF LIVE VIEWS in the history of the show. The season 4 finale, which directly sprang from Eddie getting shot, was ALSO the least viewed finale! Eddie doesn't bring an audience, he just doesn't. Nobody cares about him outside the internet, and if they even remember he exists they don't even remember his name! All they remember him as is "Christopher's dad"! So maybe the writers have learned their lesson, but they're making sure to give him a nice big exit so that his ending doesn't feel too rushed. I don't know... but that's my dearest wish.

But literally? This arc would have been a million times better if it was about anybody else. Buck having a panic attack over the shooting stuff? Hell yeah! Oliver is imo the second worst of the cast (still miles better than Ryan though) and even as the second worst he would legitimately bring SO MUCH NUANCE to a scene like that. Literally any of the cast could. But Ryan just looked constipated, and didn't even fall in a way that looked normal. He just wiggled his legs around while making a constipated expression.

But yeah... my hope that this is their way of writing him out of the show is the only way I can sit through the horribly acted, contrived, terribly written, AWFUL arc they've got going for him.

Summary:

Techno started the stream in the Nether. He quickly went back to the overworld and to his house, where he meets up with Phil and Ranboo. He mentions that the house smells like gunpowder, and Phil quickly ushers them outside and they continue their conversation.

Techno nudges Ranboo away from the conversation, and he leaves the call. Phil and Techno watch as Ranboo leaves the house, and then Techno tells Phil his news. He talks about how taking down L’Manburg wasn’t the greatest plan, especially as he’s only one person. He wants to bring other people to their anarchist ways.

Phil agrees to form a secret organization for anarchists, because they can’t fight ten to one.

Techno and Phil go to Ranboos house, asking for a feather, and Ranboo asks if he’s getting kicked out. They say no, and then Ranboo says that he has something that might get him kicked out.

He talks about how he sometimes doesn’t remember what he does, and that he was the person who blew up the community house.

Techno asks why, and Ranboo says he doesn’t know.

Phil and Techno agree that they don’t really care about the community house, and Ranboo continues, saying that he has one of the discs. Phil and Techno agree again that they don’t care about the discs at all.

Techno and Phil leave.

Techno leads Phil to a stronghold, which he calls a ‘structure,’ and they cover it with gravel to hide it. They enter the structure, and they find a library, some useless doors, and keep exploring, finding nothing. Techno is confused, thinking that there had to have been a reason for the stronghold's existence.

While looking at a connected Abandoned Mineshaft, Techno finds an enchanted golden apple.

They go into the lower parts of the stronghold, and they find a prison. Techno mentions that the bread he found earlier tasted around 2,000 years old, which gives us a rough (and joking) estimate of when the stronghold was made.

Phil finds a strange portal, and they talk about how advanced the previous civilization must had been, to be able to make unbreakable blocks. They hear a villager writing, and dig up to a strange room.

It ends up being the igluu where Orphans parents lived, and they start laughing, but then, DreamXD logs in. He breaks the portal, and then leaves. Techno begs dream to put the portal back, because it would’ve added to the lore, and that their characters didn’t know what it was, and were going to use it as a table.

Dream logs in again, and puts one (1) portal frame block down, and then leaves again. Phil tells Dream how to place the blocks incorrectly so they wouldn’t form a portal, and he logs in to place them back.

DreamXD hears Techno joking about going to the end, logs in, and then logs out when Techno says he’s joking. Then, Techno explains the difference between DreamXD and Dream, saying that DreamXD has canonical access to creative mode, and is like God, but Dream is just some homeless teletubby. DreamXD logs in, says ‘they actually are I am the protector,” and logs out.

In chat, Techno asks ‘who was that dram fanboy, how did he get whitelisted,’ and DreamXD logs in again, hits Techno with a sword a few times, and logs out.

Techno and Phil decorate the meeting room a bit, and they start talking about what the association should be called. Techno says that he wants it to be the ‘[blank] Syndicate,’ and before they can agree on anything, Ranboos nametag is spotted, and they agree to kill him if he comes into the meeting room.

Techno puts down a sign with the organization's motto, which is ‘Sic semper tyrannis,’ which means ‘thus always to tyrants.’

He starts writing in the manifesto.

“This syndicate is formed to promote anarchy and fight tyranny in all its forms.

“We shall have no Leader; no member shall be compelled to act if they do not choose to.

“No member shall reveal information about the Syndicate to outsiders.

“Technoblade shall serve as the Recruiter to induce new members into the Syndicate with Approval from a Majority of members.”

Phil and Techno leave the Stronghold, and realize that the Igluu wasn’t actually Orphans parents, but instead a different Igluu that Ranboo had been using for Cartographers. They go back to the house, planning to meet with Ranboo, but on the way, they find a strange tower made of stone. Its hollow, but theres no chests or anything inside. They continue and meet with Ranboo, who has gifts for them. Techno gets a Netherite shovel with Efficiency V, Mending, Silk Touch, and Unbreaking III.

He brings them under his house, and we find he has a ‘comfort room,’ made of netherrack, that has several mob heads on the walls, an extra set of armor, and pets sitting next to the ladder. They talk about the map on the wall, and Techno seems concerned, or a bit scared.

Techno and Phil leave the call, and talk about how extremely strange the room, and Ranboo, was. They recount their adventure, and move the villagers into a more efficient layout. Ranboo joins them after a few minutes, at 1:38:00, and they work on curing the zombie villagers and giving them jobs

I feel like bnha is always on the precipice of like. Touching on some REAL stuff but it always backs out at the last moment.

First of all im a big hater of both characters so expect a biased opinion here (lol). But i do think they are “good characters” as in they are interesting and pertinent to the plot, complex etc. bleh. bleh bleh. but the way their arcs are written.... lots of things rly dont sit right with me 

**Fair warning i dont have the english skills to phrase this whole thing better.

1. Bkg first. I remember when bkg took the hit for deku i made fun of the whole thing bc OFCC thats how we r going to “redemp” him. Which in one hand ok, it does stay true to bkgs character bc he literally cannot communicate his feelings to save his life, hes more of an action guy. But also i really do think the buildup for that moment can be pushed more. And im not even gonna blame bkgs character entirely here bc he IS an established stubborn ass with the communication skills of a tadpole etc etc. what im gonna blame is the way horikoshi never lets deku even TOUCH on the bullying he’s endured before UA. Its literally never been discussed. Like the only time it IS brought up is the flashback we get right before bkg sacrificed himself. But deku, instead, never got the chance to process any of it. And i think thats my main problem with the whole bkg thing (and ofc there is a vindictive part where i feel like bkg hasnt got enough “repercussions” for it, which may be arguable, but thats a whole different ballpark).

i especially think bkg should apologize outright/address what he’s done to deku, but if horikoshi wants to drag that speech out (and thats if the speech will ever happen in the first place) i can accept that. BUT. to me. It has to be equal... as in deku should be allowed to address that too.

I get that deku is a virtuous main character who will supposedly forgive kacchan no matter what or whatever. And fuck it you know what, thats okay. But im begging let deku at least process it in some way. Bc the thing about deku’s character is whenever he gets angry, its always on behalf of someone else’s and not himself.

Which, again, is a virtue. But i also think the author tapping out on the whole bullying issue is kinda a coward move. Even when deku dukes it out with bkg its always about “im gonna get stronger and be number one kacchan!!111” and not “man you irreparably damaged my entire childhood and told me to [redacted] myself.”

literally the whole bullying nuance is casted out and replaced immediately with some boys will be boys rivalry. Which, really, just looks like the author taking the easy way out to me.

I can see how much both characters have grown, tho, and its clear that they care about each other. but the development is really :/ it leaves much to be desired wtf. 

I’m not satisfied w bkg’s redemption arc thingy but i dont expect anything better either. I think if i were to reread bnha from the beginning i can have a clearer perspective on the whole thing, but i dont really feel the incentive for that bc it simply doesnt compel me enough to do so LOL.

If its worth anything, i dont really hate bkg anymore. only sometimes lmfao

2. End*avor. Ugh.

Ok. I love family drama its like crack to me. the whole dabi thing had me yelling forreal. And todoroki fam has like some of my most favorite characters in the whole series.

I dont even wanna discuss end*avors character... like honestly, the ones that shine the most in end*avor redemption arc are the other family members and not end*avor himself. Which on one hand i appreciate but also i might be biased? But im really <3 over how we get todoroki rei’s character development from this arc. Not only is rei’s arc cathartic as hell but its also very, very encouraging to see a character stands over her ab*ser like that after suffering for so long. I cant express how much i love that. And fuyumi and natsuo? Insanity. I esp love how fuyumi’s efforts get the appreciation they deserve.

And i liked the surprise where dabi rained on end*avor’s parade right after end*avor thought he could actually redeem himself. Ok im not gonna sugarcoat it i just liked to watch dabi fucked him over, it was a standing applause eureka moment for me.

Honestly i think the whole concept is really delicious, like the son of the number 1 hero is a villain thing, heroes arent saints, etc etc etc. like that is so sexi so dramatic so soap opera literal superhero telenovela and i loved it a lot. Like i really enjoyed reading the whole thing. so like. i am entertained.

Do i feel like end*avor has redeemed himself? Mm NO <3. I appreciate the details that he himself thinks that he is unforgivable (blehh) and he DID suffer which was nice to watch, personally. but its not enough and it will never be <3 

im not sure if i think this way bc i just think what he did is irredeemable or bc the storytelling sucked OR BOTH <3. And i still do feel bnha did that thing where it backed out at the last moment with end*avor’s arc.... like it was touching it but it still didnt want to get its hands dirty, you know? Like what stance is it taking, really? It just never goes all out. 

i think some details about this arc also irk me...... like why does the rest family got to shoulder the burden of his fuck ups? <3 die <3 like this part annoys me so much. and seeing how he got to be comforted after everything he’s done.................................................... i cant even say how much that just ... pisses tf out of me <3 haha

like thats the thing. i feel like both characters (bkg n end*avor) are still coddled despite everything.

The recent arcs have been a pleasant surprise in some part and i will still be following its developments. i do genuinely think both characters are interesting btw i just kinda hate them lmfaooo.

‘oh ichigo and orihime sword and shield she wants to protect him’ listen. orihime is all talk. she is ALL TALK. when has she ONCE successfully defended ichigo when it mattered? apart from that time in the FB arc when they were TRAINING and hence had no CONSEQUENCES???? WHEN has orihime ever stepped in front of ichigo? ever actually shielded him properly and it wasn’t some throwaway panel??? WHEN??? WHEN????????

She wasnt relevant in SS arc because for the majority of the time she wasn’t with ichigo. She actively put ichigo in harm’s way in HM and begged his corpse to save her. She is shown always behind Ichigo in that arc, being physically protected. She put her shields up in front of him in the FB arc during the training, which was a cool little moment for her, but then failed to actually trust him when it mattered and put up her shield in front of someone else to deflect HIS attack. She doesn’t get a relevant moment fighting with or shielding him in tybw until the very end, and then the only comment from ichigo re: fighting with her is inoue’s shield didn’t work.

You know who does protect Ichigo? Rukia. She protects him from despair. She protects him from being swallowed up by his hollow when he’s moping at the beginning of the HM arc. She physically jumps in front of him twice. ‘I told you, i forbade you to come!!!’  Rukia doesn’t have to say, next time she’ll definitely protect ichigo! because it’s her fucking baseline state. there is no ‘next time’. she’s doing it all the time.

‘oh ichigo went to save rukia out of duty!!!’ this one doesn’t even DESERVE to get debunked bc if you missed ‘I REMEMBER WHY I WANTED TO SAVE YOU SO MUCH’ you’re literally less than bacteria, BUT, but, the irony here is that in HM, IT’S INOUE THAT ICHIGO WENT TO SAVE OUT OF DUTY. WHY DID HE WANT TO GO SAVE INOUE?

‘because inoue’s our friend.’ not even ‘my friend’. our friend. and unlike in SS arc there’s NOTHING at the end to debunk this. No heartfelt narration detailing why, exactly, he wanted to save inoue so much. In fact, throughout the entire arc, everyone keeps pressuring ichigo to admit the truth. Why is he in hueco mundo???

Ichigo answers this. ICHIGO ANSWERS THIS, NO SUBTEXT, NO READING BETWEEN THE LINES, STRAIGHT UP CANON DIALOGUE. ICHIGO IS HERE, IN HUECO MUNDO, AND I QUOTE, ‘TO FIGHT YOU, GRIMMJOW!!!’ ICHIGO IS HERE TO FIGHT GRIMMJOW. 

(oh, and then he’ll take everybody, not just inoue, everybody, and get them all back safe home. but again, that’s duty. that’s what’s expected of him. What wasn’t expected of him? fighting grimmjow. But you know the fuck what? he wants to fight grimmjow. gee, i wonder why he wants so bad to fight grimmjow in particular, when the one who kidnapped orihime is ulquiorra. gee, didn’t he actually come face to face with ulquiorra and say ‘i have no reason to fight you’???? like, that’s canon dialogue too, right???? wow. i wonder why he was so hell-bent on fighting GRIMMJOW, who actually doesn’t have anything to do with inoue beside being generally on the same side as the people who kidnapped her.) 

we’ve been so flabbergasted by the sheer absurdity of the statement ‘ichigo went to save rukia out of duty’ that we’ve missed the second implication that’s inherent in it - ‘and ichigo went to save orihime out of love’. but that’s bullshit. BULLSHIT. IT’S THE EXACT FUCKING OPPOSITE. AND I’M NOT MAKING THIS SHIT UP. THIS IS ALL JUST PULLING UP CANON FUCKING QUOTES. ICHIGO WENT TO SAVE ORIHIME OUT OF DUTY. Reasons why i hate mikaela hyakuya

Mikaela is honestly one of those characters i desperately and i mean desperatly tried to love i mean his kid self was so so easy to love and want to protect and hell i cried a shit ton for him and his past his problems everything but the reality is mikaela is a toxic person and here im going to be explaining everything as clearly as i can though im sure that everyone has heard most of these arguments i also have some most people wouldnt even consider

Why is mikaela toxic? Well simply said when you have one person and only one then its obviously going to be an underlying mental health issue now you could say other characters are similar to mikaela within that regard like every other vampire but heres the thing we dont get to see much of the other vampires so im more or less apathetic to those vampires and their actions however in accordance to mikaela we have watched his actions since day one and his chemistry with the rest of the cast of owari no seraph what grinds my gears isnt the fact that mikaela acts with violence and distrust towards everyone but the actions that the rest of the cast have taken towards mikaela and his inability to react differently towards those same exact characters aka shinoa squad

Shinoa squad has never once treated mikaela with prejiduce with agendas or anything of ill will since day one the fact that shinoa basically is the cause of death of many of her comrads during the nagoya arc where mikaela attacks the jida troop (and yes it is a troop considering that after reading pannel after pannel theres upwards to 20 soldiers who the majority of which are equiped with standard blades unlike the protagonists you know basically cannon fodder) but my problem is the fact that in that chapter shinoa instigated their betrayal to save mikaela from the rest of the troops shinoa's life was threatned straight after acknowledging that this could be the last she ever layed eyes on yuichiro by letting mikaela escape with him first threatened by a random soldier and then right after rika inoue and by her superior narumi makoto and shinoa the fucking chad she is just took all the punishment because she knows damn well that it is her fault her comrads died because of her distraction to allow mikaela to escape eating away the precious time guren baught his soldiers to run away and escape and how does mikaela respond? He tells yuu to abandon them it doesnt take a genius to say that betrayal especially to the hiragi family is met with death even if mikaela doesnt understand the rules and regulations of human law i doubt vampire law is much different meaning he knows damn well shinoa could lose her life for betraying the army for his sake and not just shinoa but her entire squad

I already know what youll say "but but mikas a vampire he has no emotions" bullshit absolute pure fucking bullshit of an argument considering the fact yoichis mention of the word family/freinds was cause for pause for mikaela and not just mikaela look at ferid look at crowley theyre all so vibrant and brimming with personality and emotion and i am damn well sure no one disagrees this could just be kagami's writing and forgetting about this plotpoint

The fact that despite this mikaela is a manipulative fucker we all know yuu is a dumbass no one can deny this the fact that mikaela is willing to point his sword towards yuichiro and threaten him his so called beloved speaks volumes about mikaelas ego his straight up ego thinking that he's the only one that could be right after all mikaelas the wisest of the bunch right i mean after all everyone of his other decisions was followed through with outstanding results anyone? Anyone? Thats right not once has the squad or especially yuichiro listend to mikaela and do to that fact everyone is alive and kicking examples? (This is also an example of manipulative mika) Mika: Yuu abandon shinoa because if she's as great as you say us sticking around will only cause her trouble you cannot tell me that isnt mikaela trying to twist yuu's feelings for his family to abandon them because had they listened to mikaela shinoa would have been impaled by the chains kureto produced to awaken the seraph of the end

And almost right after that same situation upon mahiru injuring yuu awakening abadon mikaela high tails and runs away carrying yuu and we actually see a pannel of shinoa squad scrambling for saftey straight up abandoning them again and going so far as to yell that he is yuu's only family despite all the other shit

Alright so lets play into the whole mika doesnt have feelings dont you think that having no feelings would make your sense of judgement all the better? And if so with all the evidence and actions of shinoa squad why in Gods blue earth would he basically act like an actual dick towards shinoa who saved his life risked her life for him as if shinoa is the sole reason yuu is in the prediciment of being possessed by yuu?? Imo mika cares about how yuu makes him feel rather than who yuichiro is what do i mean by this? Anyway back to mika trying to kill guren just right there yuu begs mika to stop and grabs his arm pulling him back and what does mika do? What does he do? He lops off yuu's arm the one that was holding mikaela back from attacking what makes this scene even worse is i had so much hope for mikaeala because the last battle they won mikaela said the thoight of losing his.comrads made him dizzy what happened to him not having feelings? I lived loved loved that statement i imagined uncle mika to yuus kids being the best man to yuus wedding begging to be the one to make the wedding cake so so so so so many au's based off those little words and right after removing yuu's limb from him kimizuki and yoichi step up for guren weapons drawn and mikaela threatens them?!?!?! I mean honestly how fucking hypocritical can you be how big is his fucking ego???

Ill end it with this point because i have work in the morning i Still have another 20 bullet points i want to add but im starting to think i have artheritistis in my hand because my fingers hurt so much but anyway my point being mikaelas character contradicts yui's in an unhealthy way while yuu's character trait is to run towards danger to be a hero mikas is to run from danger its basically a tug of war and the thing is the story so far has actually turned out well for the cast running into danger for yuu made the 6th angels trumpet to grow silent destroying all of the four horsemen monsters and letting humanity take a huge step towards rebuilding but had it been mika's way theyd have run right out of that building never to see it again my point is if someone pulls and runs towards something and another character ties a rope to them and runs the other direction that tension will cause nothing but problems instead of running forward with the protagonist in order to keep them safe and actually contribute into the success of the mission

Also like the hashtags say this is only part 1 because as i said i have to sleep and my hand is killing me i should have done this earlier when i had more energy in order to bring along all the sources like the chapter and page where you can find these exact moments along with photos of said arguments/bullet points

I’ve rewatched chrisawa arc of the 1st season for like the nth time and I really appreciate how Chris taught Sawamura to get used to thinking while playing baseball.

Most important things he taught:

Think about who the batter is / Use available data about the batter.

Imagine game scenarios and think about what to pitch.

Think about what he can do/what he was best at and use it to his advantage.

Hone his fastball.

Think about the details of the way he grips and throws the ball all the time.

Maintain his form and constantly review his physical foundations.

Being patient and working hard and relentlessly.

Make sure to rest.

Chris was just 17 years old and was handed the responsibility of a pitching coach but we can still see just how limited his knowledge was. He couldn’t determine that Sawamura’s moving was basically his palmball changeup, couldn’t see that Sawamura’s form is basically textbook pitching dynamics and Chris still had a limited knowledge about pitching grips and how they can turn into breaking balls. Chris did the best he can out of what he knows though. (kataoka seriously what the hell why didnt u get a professional.) 

Thanks to Sawamura being completely receptive of his lessons (after Sawamura swallowed his pride, performed that complete dogeza and begging Chris to please teach him), Sawamura has slowly yet surely incorporated thinking baseball into his play as evidenced by:

ACT 1 S1 and S2 examples

Responding to the batter pressure by pitching what he wanted and what he thought would work (the strike against raichi which made miyuki angry).

Thinking of ways to not let his fastballs get hit into the outfield (which led to the cutter with crossfire delivery being used).

Immediately asking to watch seido vs inashiro match with miyuki two days after the match.

Went back to pitching to the net when he found out that yips caused problems to his form.

Practice pitch sequences on imaginary batters using inside and outside pitches to the net.

Shake off miyuki’s call to pitch to the outside even when the nanamori cleanup was clearly waiting for the outside pitch.

Deciding to test his changeups against the Seido first string (Sawamura was pitching for the 2nd string).

Wanting to find the best pitch to strikeout Raichi on his own (which led to the neat fastball and evolution of the 2 seam / shuuto).

It even shines more in ACT 2

Doing towel drills, imagining at-bat situations & pitch sequences during self-practice (spring koushien)

Constantly reviewing his form after every performance and correcting where he was tense.

Rechecking/reaffirming his grips all the time.

Asking Miyuki to teach him how to gamecall.

Looking at how often he uses his different pitches and drawing up charts for their statistics. Using these charts, he came up what goals and direction he wanted his pitching style to go.

Researching and combining different pitching grips with the help of his kouhai.

Reviewing data about the batters.

and I think we’re now seeing glimpses of him developing strategies against batters on his own.

Sawamura is a genius in his own right and I believe that Chris’s initial training of him planted the seeds to make Sawamura’s genius bloom.

Also special thanks to Miyuki and Kataoka for always using Sawamura in most of the tense and crisis situations for Seido. If it weren’t for them Sawamura wouldn’t have grown into the battle-hardened veteran he is right now.

I don’t know why we never see Miyuki asking him what to pitch in imaginary game scenarios though. Maybe they do it offscreen? But Furuya doesn’t seem to have that kind of training experience. Chris is probably the only who does mental exercises with his batteries like that.

Tbf all the pitchers (main team and opponents) in Oofuri/Big Windup help in the catcher’s gamecalling. It’s only in DnA where this seems to be frowned upon for some weird reason (im screaming DnA is catcher propaganda).

The “thinking baseball” Sawamura is actively showing now in Act 2 isn’t really uncommon. We’re just used to him being painted as an uncontrollable idiot for a long time that’s why watching him improve and gain the skills he should have had in the first place is so exciting to watch.

aah i agree im vry disappointed in this chapter ! like its good like usual, but its kind of a let down after the last 5 chapters... ht rly exposed himself minutes before, and comedy aside, MGS answered him by ignoring him, and then saying "were not friends, were not as close as you think we are". it must have been hurtful for HT, its basically a rejection of recognizing HT vulnerabilities. and its totally In character for MGS to say this, so im not disappointed by it 1/?

i mean HT lay his heart down for Mo to see and theyve known each other for 15 DAYS, its too soon for anybody and especially for Mo who have mistrust problems to respond in the same way ? so running away and deflecting the declaration is cool, i wasnt excepting a "ill never abandon u!!" lol. but then HT being cool with this rejection and having a slapstick comedy just after doesnt feel right. mb show HT swallowing and being disheartened, and then put his usual facade and only then have comedy 2/?

would have been good, bc we would have known "oh ht is actually hurt by MGS reaction but doesnt know how to say it, so he plays it cool and change the subject bc hes still not at ease with being vulnerable". a realistic situation would have been "ht tried to be vulnerable but it was too soon, too much for mo who rejected him, so it confirmed ht biased thinking that showing vulnerabilities is bad and it will prevent ht to be vulnerable in front of someone in the near future". 3/?

i mean it could have been a nice although sad conclusion for this mini-arc, especially since ht have been grieving (?) his mother just this morning. a little step back, and then smth else happen and cause ht to crack completely but then mo is able to respond present and its a step forward. ok im daydreaming but that would have been climatic lol. instead this..ah i dont know i feel cheated, i know its ox' work but still haha ! like when they do an abrupt change of scene after an emotional page 4/

its a trick ox use often and after 300 chapters it feels old n cheap. when u engage in a emotional scene, u cant just do "oops i change my mind!!" and put slapstick comedy or ignore totally what just happened and dont have a progression. u have to stay on this road : u cant put traumatizing backgrounds and mafia affairs and mature problems (kidnapping, mother being threatening into prostitution,etc) n just.. not stick with it and making ur characters not traumatized by it and just 'lol comedy'.

sry im kind of monopolizing ur askbox lol, i guess im kind of frustrated ! it just the last chapters were so good and it was a while since ox use this cheap trick of not going through an emotional scene that i kind of forgot how terrible they were at handling transition between drama and comedy. theyre a good artist all in all (or i wouldnt be this disappointed!!), but they have this failing in their writing an it drives me nuts each time lmao. haa i hope next chapter will be better...5/5

Hell yeah, DEFINITELY, that sums up my thoughts. Also, you don't have to apologize, it was an interesting read and I can tell that you feel strongly about it. While I can’t say that I’m flat-out disappointed, as I wrote in my original post, I’m definitely feeling lukewarm and indifferent about the recent ch.

OX touched upon a few serious matters a couple of chapters before: namely She Li’s fucked up goading and the way it unsettled He Tian -- unsettled in no joking manner as follows from his reaction. Then we get He Tian swearing to beat up anyone who dares bully Mo, and the whole profound monologue from the previous chapter. Just as you say, He Tian truly laid himself bare there. One could argue that He Tian listed the reasons he was enamoured with Mo, or one could argue that he subtly commented on the milieu he grew up in, or one can even read it as He Tian admitting/reflecting on his flaws out loud. There are many ways to construe this scene, each of them is extremely meaningful. Not to mention it took HT visible effort to say these things out loud.

The problem which both you and I noticed is that OX left this mini-arc/mini-subplot unresolved. Instead, they abruptly switched to comedic relief. Much like you, I wasn’t expecting a big reaction from Mo -- no grand verbal declarations at very least. What I expected was a panel (maybe a close up of Mo’s face as I mentioned in my original post) that indicated he actually HEARD what HT told him, that it gave Mo some food for thought. 

As you mention, Mo getting disconcerted and doing the tsun-tsun escape is fairly in character for him. Still, a panel like this would have been very welcome to emphasize his confusion and to justify him not gracing the other boy with an answer, ignoring HT showing his underbelly (which is something that doesn't come easy for him, as we readers know). Okay, sure, OX handled it differently this chapter -- we get Mo silently running away and blurting out the first comeback he could think of. No problem. It works to show that HT’s words had an effect on him, albeit it’s much less pronounced, than, say, the Aquarium scene -- again one would have to wonder why: HT’s “don’t abandon me” is just as strong, if not stronger, than “I’m afraid you’ll forget me”, so it follows that Mo should have been just as affected.

The problem is the way an emotionally charged moment quickly fizzled out into comedy. As you said, Mo blurting out “we are not friends, we are not familiar enough, so I don’t care what you think (of me)!” SHOULD have hit HT harder. Just minutes before we had HT being genuinely disturbed by the idea of someone looking to intentionally hurt Mo, seeking physical comfort, being disquieted by the idea of getting abandoned and losing someone he likes, confessing that he admires the other boy -- yet when Mo utters yet another curt rejection of sorts, we are not shown HT’s reaction, which, logically, should have been there. 

And all of that emotional build-up is cheapened by an accidental dick slap comedy. 

Indeed, showing HT being hurt (disquieted? deflated?) and then putting on a cool guy mask, and ONLY then switching to a slapstick humour would have been more appropriate. It wouldn’t have taken a big or an overly dramatic scene either -- just, IDK, show HT’s eyes widening, or his throat clicking, or his posture slumping, anything to indicate that Mo’s words affected him -- that the whole thing mattered to him. Otherwise, it leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth: “so Imma confess to the person I like and swear to protect them and beg them to put up with me -- oh! forget anything serious that I said, Imma touch some dick now”. While I don't have an issue with comedy coming into focus again, I do wish it hadn't been this abrupt. Had there been a better transition between these scenes, there wouldn't be this "lol jk" vibe that I’m getting.

So yeah, I, too, feel a little cheated. OX certainly has an issue with drama-comedy transitions, which are sort of hit-and-miss for me. Sometimes they work well to alleviate the grave mood, other times they appear to be out of place. The recent chapter is the latter case. Dangling a possibility of climatic resolution for the subplot and then intentionally subverting it just doesn’t work in favour of the plot here. It cheapened the emotional part and made the comedy feel much less fun for me. Of course, no one says that writing is an easy task. Plenty of mangakas, for instance, work with writers to strengthen their script and plots, so it’s challenging when a single person is responsible for both drawing and planning the story. OX is undoubtedly doing a tremendous job. Still, I wish they wouldn’t stick to using the old trick this monastically because it's becoming a trite writing device and works against them on occasion. It’s totally fine to keep the comic light-hearted yet it’s not good to ignore the needed dramatic development.

Anyone else thinking about how Viren and Aarvos are literally reflections of each other??? When they first meet, they each have to look into the mirror, where they see the other, to communicate.

Okay, they look like complete opposites but hold on!

What does Viren see when he looks into the mirror and sees Aaravos? He probably sees a mysterious scholar, someone IMPORTANT, powerful, maybe dangerous and untrustworthy, elvish, the answer to his problems, a prisoner (well im assuming Viren thinks this lol) and...sexy.

Viren doesn’t see any of these traits within himself, but I think Viren stans would beg to differ! He may not have the mysterious allure of Aaravos, but he sure as hell keeps his secrets. No one seems to have any idea how much he loves Harrow. No one suspects he turned Harrow into the bird (okay that hasn’t been canonically confirmed but come on! The show would make no sense if it aint canon). No one knew, until now, that he kept the egg. And we currently don’t have any canon confirmation that Harrow even knows about Viren’s secret lair.

Everyone takes him at face value, they don’t realize just how deep his secrets and mysteries are.

Sure, Viren’s got insecurity issues and doesn’t think himself important (thanks Harrow) but the man literally saved 100k lives with his plan. And who was it that ultimately slayed Thunder? He’s probably the most famous mage since the first mage. Plot wise, Viren is arguably the protagonist of his own story, team Callum doesn’t need to exist to tell any of it! Harrow chose him to stand in the Kings portrait by his side. VIREN IS SO IMPORTANT AND HE’S SUCH A MESS HE DOESN’T REALIZE HIS OWN VALUE.

Dangerous and untrustworthy, check.

Elvish. Ah. The dragon prince twitter once asked a really weird question “anyone have any head canons that Viren is half elf?” What an odd question! I haven’t seen any fandom metas that Viren is half elf. Obviously, I doubt he is. But fans have noticed that his corruption is making his skin color, eyes and hair, the same as Aaravos. It’s almost like he’s mutating into a startouched.

Viren only thinks he needs Aaravos to solve his problems. He feels just as trapped in his situation as Aaravos physically is. And a lot of fans think he’s just as sexy as Aaravos!!

Oh and powerful?? I get it that dark magic is like “cheating”. But Viren is powerful. No, he’s not “magical”. But not just anyone can do what he can. Callum blacked out after just doing one black magic spell! Claudia fell on her knees and lost her breath after healing Soren. Black magic isn’t always easy or cheap. And this man freaking SLAYED THUNDER.

Whatever spell he used, probably would have killed any other mage. The mans a beast!

So yeah, I think he’s powerful! But once again, Viren doesnt recognize this quality in himself. But it’s there in his reflection......

Okay what about Aaravos? What does he see in Viren? LOLOLOLOL.

He probably sees a desperate man, heart broken, lonely, vulnerable. Curious and thirsty for power/magic. He sees a man frustrated at himself for not being able to accomplish his goals. Someone easily....influenced. And he sees a dark mage ready to do anything; the opportunity Aaravos has been waiting for.

It’s hard to say without Aaraovs’ backstory, but I think he fell in love with Elarion and whatever that story is, it’s gonna be tragic and ultimately lead to him being trapped in the mirror.

So yeah! I think he’s just as heart broken and desperate as Viren is. A startouch elf, doing some blood pact ritual with the first damn human to see him?? His need to hear Viren’s voice?? His offer of servitude?? His promise to stay with him even after Viren fails to escape??

Sure, Aaravos isn’t doing any of these things because he’s in love with Viren. No doubt he’s being manipulative. But his manipulation is born of fear; the fear of being cast out again as nothing. He insists on helping Viren because he needs to prove he’s useful, USEFUL. Not just to manipulate Viren, but because if he can’t prove how useful he is, he’s afraid he won’t see or hear from another soul for another 1k years.

Which makes sense why he would promise to stay with Viren even after Viren failed to escape rather than decide the human mage is useless to him. NO! Viren is still his only chance.

Frustrated at himself? You bet. Whatever Aaravos was trying to do 1k years ago, I think he failed. Viren thinks he’s frustrated?? He doesn’t know frustration lol.

I didn’t think much of it now, but these two idiots actually reflect each other and truly think the other is the answer to their problems. Its so poetic to have a mirror represent them!!

UNLESS THE WRITING IS FAILING ME AND NONE OF THIS TRUE...!!! WHY USE A MIRROR??

Knowing that they reflect each other means we can speculate where their character arcs are going. Their reflections should start to merge....Viren is gonna become more like Aaravos, POWERFUL, dangerous, someone who can change the fate of the world, and you know...not human!!

While Aaravos while finally lose his cool and have some epic emotional breakdown, because at the end of the day, he just wants to be with his lover again.

...just a thought....

And this is just viravos trash talking here, but what if Viren is the ONLY person who can see Aaravos because the magic that binded him has only one loophole....its a bloody mirror, only his own reflection can look back at him. His name is Viren.
