I remember sitting down and talking to my ancestors in a channeled meditation...and I remember hearing my ancestors even say most of them were not even Vikings...they were farmers and weavers.
The more you know!

Beloved Sigyn, steadfast goddess,
Keeper of patience and quiet strength,
You who endured with grace amidst sorrow,
I call upon you now in these turbulent times.
Guide me with your unwavering resolve,
That I may stand firm in my values and purpose.
Teach me the art of quiet perseverance,
To hold steady when chaos threatens to overwhelm.
Shield my heart from the venom of despair,
As you shielded your love with boundless devotion.
Help me act with wisdom and compassion,
So that I may be a protector for others in need.
Bless me with your calm presence,
That I may find peace in the storm,
And courage to endure until brighter days come.
In gratitude and respect, I honor your name,
Sigyn, goddess of devotion and strength.
Stay with me now and always.

— The Tale of Ragnar Lothbrok — An illustrated, handwritten book project I did for university - it tells the story of Ragnar as a legendary viking figure but also of those that were later associated and mixed with the original myth, such as Reginherus, Ragnall Ua Ímairr and Ragnar's famous sons according to legend aka Ivarr The Boneless, Bjorn Ironside, Halfdan "Hvítserk" Ragnarsson and Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye. I did, however, mix history and myth with History Vikings' depiction of some of these characters, though what is written in each page is based on several articles I found about these people and not in the show's version of them. I'll be posting the rest of these sections separately in the coming weeks so you can also see each drawing in HQ 🤭

The Beauty of Death
Death, an unfortunate kiss of fate, a topic many people fear. Though a morbid subject, it's a part of life everyone must face.
As a witch, I never really thought I would be one to work with the dead and all things relevant to death..but it always resonated with me. I find such a strange comfort from the topic knowing that once we die, our bodies will return back to Mother Earth's arms and fertilize the soil, while our souls go on.
I've had many people ask me how I handle death, or how I'm not afraid of it. I mean, it's such an unknown concept, right? I think some people think I'm heartless when I say this topic interests me, or how I react with death. Alot of people may assume that death doesn't bother me, which is far from the truth. Of course when I experience a loss, it hurts, were all human and when we lose someone we love, it will hurt. but I find comfort in that hurt, in their passing. Its odd, yes, I'll admit.
I know that once we pass, out bodies will rot and decay, our bodies become cold and we will wither away into the soil of the earth beneath us, eventually giving life to the plants around us, but we live on. We live on physically through the Earth, the plants and the trees that our bodies helped fertilize and through the memories of others. And our souls, no matter what one may belive, our souls will move on. Whether it be led by Thanatos into the arms of King Haidês in his luscious relm of riches and shades, or into the arms of Oðinn before sending us off to Hel or Valhalla, we live on.
That is what gives me comfort. What helps me greive and why I'm unafraid of such a morbid concept; it's knowing that the dead are in good hands and warm arms. They're at peace.
Though this being my first blog may not come out well, and people may not understand, welcome death with open arms for when our time comes we will be in good hands.

You're so right about your takes on the horse myth and MCU!Loki aborting that it. It does frustrate me a bit when MCU!Loki's motherly out of a sudden in fics that adapted some of the mythology. The way I interpret him, I can't see him having a biological child willingly after the events of T1 (cue his intense self-hatred and issues), and if he had a kid it'd be one he found amidst devastation (just like he was).
Yes exactly!! Honestly, I feel like post-T1 Loki's self-loathing and alienation from his body are bad enough that he might struggle even to be sexually active (not that it's exactly his priority in canon lol), so the idea of him intentionally having biological children is just... wild to me.
But also, while this isn't a subject I seek out... In my limited experience, people often seem to make it happen *pre-canon*? And I can't see that happening *either*.
The thing is... Thor and Loki are young. They are, just about, adults, but the fact remains that they're living with their parents, subject to their parents' authority, and acting quite a lot like overgrown teenagers. They're reckless young warriors trying to make a name for themselves by risking their lives on a regular basis. Nothing about how they act suggests that they yet want, or consider themselves ready for, children of their own.
Also, from a Doylist perspective, the story is so much About Family, and the characters are so defined by their roles as Mother, Father, Elder Son, and Younger Son that giving one of the sons children of his own out of the blue throws everything off.
To be fair, I think most people who give Loki a secret pre-canon spouse and/or children know that this is a drastic reframing of the character. It's just that they're interested in that reframing, and I'm not.
And as for the "motherly" thing... well.
For one thing, I really don't like how widespread it is to refer to Loki as a "mother" *purely* because they've written him carrying children. "But it's because Loki's genderfluid!" Then call Loki "she" and "woman" too, cowards! A self-identified man who reluctantly adopts the term mother because it's allegedly biologically accurate isn't genderfluid representation, it's bioessentialism.
And the actual "motherly" (gentle, caring, etc) side of things... Yeah, I can't really see that either. Like, sure, Loki is a complicated character. He IS a lot more affectionate and protective than his surface-level characterisation suggests, so it's not like it's 100% baseless. But it still won't feel right to me unless the complexity is retained.
For one thing, there's the Jotun self-(and-other-)loathing. And for another... Loki hates vulnerability. He hates feeling tied to anyone else. He has pre-existing trauma with his body being altered against his will. He had pre-existing baggage about gender non-conformity (as something he's probably been both punished for and threatened with). Pregnancy will be nightmarish for Loki. I can't imagine him choosing not to have an abortion... so I can't imagine him being pregnant willingly. It could be force, or it could just be bad luck, but it won't be a happy story.
I do think it could be in character (and interesting!) for him to be reluctantly fond of a (potential) child... but in a very conflicted way where his aversion to that affection borders on horror. It's a huge part of Loki's character that he loves people he wishes he didn't love, and that he's trying and failing to escape his family bonds. An unwanted pregnancy is just another layer of that, and will make all his problems worse. This story wants to be horror! Make it horror!!!
...
All complaints aside, I do enjoy the idea of Loki adopting an abandoned child. (Especially if they're old enough to talk and be a nuisance at the point when he adopts them.) I think we might still need a bit of narrative coercion / forced proximity to make it happen, but I think he's much more likely to be willing if his own anatomy is not involved.
#hmm hang on i didn't bring up the horse myth directly here. but that's because it doesn't convince me on like... five different levels lol#regardless of whether he keeps the accidental horse baby the mcu loki of my headcanon wouldn't get into that situation to begin with#because i don't even think he's a shapeshifter lol#(he does second-skin illusions of fellow humanoids. that's not the same!!!)#space viking tag#meta#constructive complaining#ch: loki#th: gender + sexuality#pregnancy cw

Mighty Thor,
Guardian of Midgard,
Wielder of Mjölnir,
Stand with us as we navigate these dark and uncertain times.
We stand amidst storms of injustice,
Where freedoms falter and hearts grow heavy.
We ask for your strength,
To shield the oppressed,
To strike down the chains of tyranny,
And to awaken courage in the hearts of all.
Guide us with your steadfastness,
Teach us to be defenders of the weak,
And protectors of the truth.
As you battle the forces of chaos,
Stand with us in our fight for what is right.
May your thunder echo through the hearts of those who bring harm,
And may your protection be a sanctuary for the vulnerable.
Thor, protector of humanity,
Watch over us as we strive to honor justice and compassion,
And grant us the resilience to stand firm in the face of adversity.
Hail Thor,
Champion of the righteous,
Guardian of Midgard.
