Magni
Tumblr media
God of Horses and Calvery, Aesir
Appearance: Magni inherited his mother’s brown hair and his father’s red eyes. However, his eye shape is more similar to his mother’s, and his hair texture is more similar to his father's.
Relationships: Magni is closest with his brother Móði and then with his horse, Gullfaxi. He often spends a lot of time with Víðarr due to them both having “calm” personalities and the fact that they both like to count cards when playing games, much to their cousins' and siblings’ annoyance. He has a good relationship with both his parents and frequently goes riding or hunting with them. Magni also deeply admires Sleipnir from a distance but has not yet found the courage to speak to his idol.
Personality: The calmest of his generation, Magni’s years of exposure to his younger brother Móði’s rage and mania-inducing abilities have given him emotional control and self-understanding on par with the elders of his family. The only thing that can shake him is his favorite animal, horses. In his free time, he enjoys riding and helps manage the family’s ranching and livestock operations. He is also heavily involved in Valhalla’s hors1e racing scene and owns and operates several popular racing tracks. Magni enjoys gambling when he has some assurance he is going to win, which is why he prefers to play as the house.
Powers: Magni is an excellent warrior and fighter. His preferred weapon is a lance as he specializes in fighting mounted. He is not a particularly skilled magician but can speak to most animals and is well-practiced at most magic with veterinary applications. Recently a fascination with the American cowboy has led to him learning how to use a lasso in combat.
History: Born after the gods all joined their realms together, Magni spent the first part of his life in the various properties controlled by the Norse in Midgard being raised by his mother and grandmother, Jörð, or visiting his mother’s family in the northern seas. Since his younger brother, Móði, was born at almost the same time as him by the standards of the gods, the two grew up together, and when they were both old enough for more serious training (equivalent to 10 human years) they left their mothers care and moved full-time to Odin’s halls to live with their father and older half-siblings.
Once there he started his training as a warrior in earnest while simultaneously having the experience of no longer being the oldest of his generation around and thus no longer feeling as if he had to act responsibly all the time. This opened up more time for his favorite activity, spending time with the family’s horses. From there he learned about horse racing, then gambling on horse racing, and then just gambling in general. (Courtesy of his uncle Vé who quickly had to find somewhere to hide from Jörð who did not approve of the path her grandson had been led down.) Luckily, Magni was smart enough to not lose money, unluckily, he still found the act of swindling others far too much fun and ended up owning several racetracks. He credits his younger brother Móði for being so annoying he developed an excellent poker face and his uncle Loki for teaching him every conceivable way to cheat at gambling.
As an almost adult Magni is supposed to be moving into his final role within the family, which is related to helping manage the animals they own however he also spends a good amount of time dealing with his side operations to Odin’s annoyance and begrudging approval (gambling debts are great blackmail material). As a result, he is not as prominently placed as many of Odin’s other blood relatives.
Trivia: Magni unironically loves horse movies and tries to convince his siblings to watch them with him constantly but they all refuse because he always starts crying midway through because he gets too excited. (He also reads those horse girl books about running away with your horse.)
