merry christmas!!!✨
@neyafromfrance95 this video is dedicated to you!!! I wanted me to make it so here you go I really hope you like it...I tried my best to put all my emotions and show this in the video: "her time with halbrand was a time where she was very much herself in some ways because she was an elf alone. she wasn't following the rules of her people at that point. so, he knows a part of her that other people, other beings, don't, and there's a tragedy to losing that, and through losing him, she also lost that part of herself."
thank you so much for always saying such lovely words about my what I create and I love talking to you!!!

In search of Fandom Ambassadors!
There's a lot we don't know yet about FTH2025 in part because there's a lot we don't know about what 2025 will look like in the US. But one thing we do know is that this next auction -- our ninth! -- will definitely be happening! No matter who the next US president is, there are progressive causes that need our help and support. And we also know that we're hoping to pick up some new fandom ambassadors for a handful of specific fandoms.
(What is Fandom Trumps Hate?)
Hey, what's a fandom ambassador? A fandom ambassador is someone who helps raise the profile of FTH within a specific fandom, especially fandoms that have small showings in the auction. (FTH is way more fun when there are at least half a dozen fanworks being offered in your fandom!) We the auction organizers can make all the general posts we want asking people to get involved, but those kinds of appeals hit different when they're coming from a friend or from a recognizable name.
So if you're someone who:
a) has roots in a specific fandom with small FTH turnout OR a new fandom that you want to see in the auction
b) has participated in the auction in the past, and
c) is interested in helping drum up interest among your friends/communities in that fandom
...we'd love to hear from you! Please fill out this quick form and let us know that you're interested. Fandom ambassadors will get support from FTH in making posts aimed at your fandom in the weeks leading up to the auction.
we are especially interested in recruiting FAs for the following fandoms:
Honkai Star Rail
Hazbin Hotel
Dungeon Meshi
Agatha All Along (which gets classified under a general MCU heading for us, but which we know has a distinct fanbase of its own!)
Blue Eyed Samurai
Shogun
Merlin
Bungou Stray Dogs
Dead Boy Detectives
We'd also love to recruit someone to reach out to the vidding community!

A Vidding Primer
A guide written for @wren-of-the-woods who asked for advice about how to start vidding! This is far from comprehensive and I tried not to make it too dense because it's a big subject. I still wanted to share a variety of topics about getting into vidding because it's a hobby and art that is near and dear to my heart.
First Piece of Advice
watch a lot of vids and rewatch vids multiple times. Seek out vids on YouTube, AO3, Watch the TikTok and Twitter/X vids that show up on tumblr or wherever you’re browsing. They all have distinct styles and tools/techniques they use to make their vids and edits. Rewatch the vids and ask yourself what you like or dislike about them. The song, the editing, the source. That can give you a good starting point about how you might want to approach making your own fanvids. The TikTok style of 30 and 40 second edits are very different what you find on YouTube. YouTube editors tend to use a full song and a lot more effects and a lot more overlapping dialogue. Whereas the fanvids - Vids - from people who came into vidding in the mid 2000s/2010s have their own culture, different ways they approach song choice, clip choices and narrative. I also suggest watching vids for shows/films you’re not familiar with as well as your fandom favorites. You can learn a lot about how vidders try to tell a story even when you might not grasp the context behind certain scenes but you can still follow along with the emotional arc of the vid.
Second Piece of Advice
Have fun and enjoy yourself. Everyone starts a new hobby as a newbie. It can be a lot of effort to make 30 seconds or a 3 minute vid, but it’s such a unique type of fanwork that is fun to watch and fun to make. It can also be migraine inducing because of all the learning and technical issues along the way. But!! omg when you make a clip fall on the perfect beat with your blorbo crying that perfect tear or you find an idea and sources for the bestest perfect lyrics of the song, it’s a magnificent high. It can make you feel like a god. At least that’s how I feel a lot of times!
There are about 10 steps* to creating** a fanvid/edit:
• select your platform and software (phone/computer video editors) • gather your video and audio files • create a new project in your video editor • import audio into the editor • import the video into the software and mute audio tracks that contain your video’s audio • review, label and cut up the video into shorter clips - this step is known as ‘clipping’ in vidding parlance, but it’s also optional. Some people pull in movies and scrub through the whole film and just pull it directly onto the timeline • move the various video clips around on the timeline to match the audio track you’ve chosen for your project, add video effects and additional dialogue if you like • export the finished timeline • upload the video to a streaming platform and/or downloadable service • share your project!!! posting to ao3 and/or social media or share on discord, etc * there are a lot more steps involved with each of these steps. What what software to use, where to find video, how to deal with copyright blocks on Youtube, etc. Some of that will be covered in the links below but is not comprehensive. That would require separate posts and links and I don’t want to drop an encyclopedia on you right now! I’m happy to provide more resources that I can curate if you want more direction and pointers to resources and amazing vidders.
** like any hobby, there can and will be a learning curve and frustrations. Blank page for a writer, blank timeline for a vidder. Is anything you put down is any good, self esteem and confusion about what actually makes sense is part and parcel for any creative work. Once you're in the vidding process and committed, as long as you're enjoying yourself you gotta just keep going to get it done.
Getting Started Vidding
My knowledge and background and learning how to vid from people on livejournal and dreamwidth from 2007. I don’t have any experience in editing with a phone but if that’s something you’re interested in, YouTube will be a place for you to start finding tutorials for various apps and tools. Probably discord communities, too. Vidding Workshop - a great how-to/guide when you're starting out. This is on dreamwidth from the WisCon vidparty in 2014. Some of the tech discussions might be a little outdated but there’s a ton of relevant information. It covers technical subjects as well as developing vid ideas and actually getting started. If you have any questions about what you’re reading you can leave an anonymous comment and ask - some of these vidders responding inthe threads are still active. You can find them on AO3/YouTube, tumblr, discord and actually leave them questions about their vids. Many vidders are more than thrilled to talk about their vids and answer questions. Vexcercises - this is a dreamwidth community for short-form vid excercises. This is a very structured way of introducing vid concepts and constraints so that you can produce a vidlet. I highly recommend you check this out and participate! There’s even an AO3 collection so you can check out how people have done the different exercises, too.
The Process of Vidding
Watch Me Edit - @limblogs put together a fantastic playlist of YouTube editors who will show you beginning to end how they made their vid. A lot of these editors appear to be using Sony Vegas but the general process of vidding end-to-end will be similar with other nonlinear editors like DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, etc. It’s a great way to actually see the vid come together if you don’t know what that even looks like. Every vidder will develop their own workflow and approach (which might even change from vid to vid), but it’s useful to see in video how people actually DO the thing. @limblogs also created a handy YouTube playlist some vidders from Bradcpu’s Vidder Profiles (Fanlore page). These profiles are basically like a director’s DVD commentary on their vidding process, featuring the vidders talking over their own vids! So cool. Phenomnal insights from these vidders about how they choose song, use effects, think about their narratives.
Self Rec: I recently did a vidding textpost series called: do it for the process - a naked vid draft: What (Yennefer of Vengerberg). How I Edit by @vimesbootstheory is another textpost about their vidding process. Self rec: Here’s my text interview: Vidder Profile - Kuwdora 2011. I talk about my process with a lot of specific examples from my previous work and lots of screenshots. This profile is over a decade old but a lot of this still holds true for me today! videlicet - this is an incredible vidding zine that @limblogs put togegther with a lot of amazing contributors. These articles and discuss about specific vids and aspects of vidding. It’s really detailed and a fantastic piece of vidding culture. I highly reading recommend the Demystifying Vidding article by lim and the A History of Vidding by @meeedeee and…pretty much every article in the zine!
Doing the vidding!
I recommend joining exchanges and watching vids that come out of exchanges and checking out fannish cons that have vidshows and discords to get more exposure to vidders and vids. Many people have joined @festivids (AO3 collection here) and made their very first vid, it's a very fun and great way to get into vidding. It’s not quite festivids season right now but time flies and it will be time to nominate sources and do sign-ups in the blink of an eye. Follow @festivids and check out the AO3 collection and see what people are making. Join the Vexcercises community and make some short vids and share them on your tumblr or on discord or somewhere and bask in the thrill of making your first fanvids. Check out who reblogged the vidder ask game - go and read other vidders responses and ask some new-to-you vidders questions. Everyone has their own take on process and tech and everything. It's great to hear and see what a lot people are doing and making.
Final Advice - talking about vids and doing the vidding
• watch vids • rewatch vids • leave a comment and ask a question about something you saw in their vid! • Again: find someone’s AO3 page of fanvids and ask them something about their vid in a comment or send them asks on tumblr (people usually have the same alias or link to their tumblr or dreamwidth pages somewhere.) • YouTube can be a valuable resource for tutorials so if you don't know something, there is likely someone who has made a tutorial about how to use a cross dissolve transition or anything else you might want to replicate in a video that you've seen in a vid. • start making a vid, scream and cry, ask for help, and keep going until you get it done. Celebrate and bask in your completed vid and share it with everyone! • Follow vidders on tumblr that you find from the vidder ask game • Check out the vidding discord for community and questions and vid recs and news about vidding exchanges and cons. • Have fun!
Hope this helps you get started! Thank you so much for the ask! Let me know if you have more questions and I can help you out or send you to cool vidders who have great advice and suggestions. And please send me your vid if you make one!

MERLIN & ARTHUR | EVERYWHERE
It's finally published!! My 2 year old WIP!! I came back to it a couple days ago, pushed through and finally finished it! And just in time for @merthurweek2024! (this doesn't follow a specific prompt but I hope this counts nonetheless)
It was time I made a happy merthur vid. I love this song so much and I thought it was perfect for these two, who go literally everywhere together, from the enemies’ dungeons to crawling through sewerage.
Hope you all enjoy!

The Best Vidding Safe Haven?
Forgive the "read bait" meme above but if you are reading these words right now that means it worked. If you are a vidding fan then it was worth it. Vidders.net was born July 19, 2010. It is a Vidder-friendly AO3 Embed Certified Vid hosting & streaming site with over 18K vids. Its growth benefited from You Tube's increased use of content ID and the closing of Imeem. It was mentioned in the "Vidding: A History" book by Francesca Coppa. Its members (most who host some great vids there) include:
Luminosity
Lim
Laura Shapiro
Lithiumdoll
Obsessive24
Clucking Bells
Charmax
Bradcpu
thedothatgirl
kiki miserychic
Milly
Hollywoodgrrl
bop radar
Loki (secretlytodream)
Condsdmlk
newkidfan
NCISMelanie
Shoopdancer
Absolute Destiny
SD Wolfpup
Arefadedaway
camelia1986
adfproductions
Astarte
Such Heights
Mithoborien
mresundance
Just to name a few. You may not recognize these names but if you do you know these vidders literally made a name for themselves with the quality of their work during that time. At least in my opinion. The site is a time capsule of awesome vids even if some of the vidders listed are no longer active. Additionally, it hosts vids no longer available on You Tube like "Boom Boom Ba" by Charmax (a classic Xena vid). And yet it can still host new content without the issues faced on some other vid hosting options.
How much does it cost to host and stream all those vids? Well, that is one of the reasons for this post. The assumption I'm making is that if there is a Vidding "community" it's more likely than not that members of it would see a post like this and/or share it with fellow members of the community. Is it worth it to keep a site like this around? It's mostly been a solo operation for these past 13 years but now I am starting to wonder after such a long time.
I'll spare you the obligation of filling out a poll or survey. I'll make it simple. We have a Patreon account at patreon.com/vidding. If you don't feel it's worth keeping up. Nothing to do. Thank you for reading this far. If you feel there is some value based on what was mentioned earlier, then a minimum level of support at the Patreon is $1 a month. You'll not only be supporting the Vidders.net but other projects like the recent purchase of the Vidding.com domain name and more. The OTW October fundraiser drive begins in October and is on track to raise about 250k. Rasing even 1 percent of that amount would be more than adequate. After all Vids on AO3 make up less than 1 percent of the content on there anyway. I've been told by a fellow fan that I should keep it running but if it's not even supported by a community, it's a personal expense at my expense I am on the hook for. Again, there is no survey or poll to take but if you have questions that may help you determine your willingness to support just contact me. If you find value in preserving the site just visit Patreon.com/vidding or get your questions answered. This form of funding is more sustainable than occasional stop and start donation efforts we've done in the past. If you prefer another form of funding let us know.
I will check in by the end of October to see where things are. I am not going to do anything drastic. It's just that it's been 13 years and I started to wonder especially with my current financial situation but didn't want to do anything without communicating the situation. The site costs about $720 a year to run. At about $60 a month to run so it should be doable.

hey i created a @@fanvidders community on tumblr here and then spent several days with worsening medical bullshit and ultimately emergency surgery so i have NO energy to promote the community or anything but reply with your interest and I'll invite you
eta: to be clear, I am sending invites to people who type actual words in reply or reblog. if your only interaction was to like the post, then I assume what you mean is "get well soon" (thank you, I appreciate the well wishes)

My Fandom Journeys
Hi, I am Morgan Dawn. I am over 60 and have been in fanfiction/fanvid fandom for 30+ years. I have a love of fandom and its history. I am disabled and use voice recognition software to write so there may be typos and the occasional word salad. Please feel free to reblog or link to my tumblr. I love to meet fans by phone or video and live in the SF Bay Area.
Look for my fandom history posts under the #fandom history tag and my personal experiences across 30 years in fandom under #my fandom journeys
Fun things I am working on 1. Scanning and preserving fanfiction fanzines from the 1960s-2000s
2. Digitizing fanvids made on VCR videotapes (1980s-2000s)
3. Promoting a DIY Oral History project for fanfiction/fanvid/fanart/cosplay (transformative) fandom. Grab a friend and join the party
4. Documenting fan run conventions, fanzines and fanvids on Fanlore, the fan-run wiki run by the Organization For Transformative Works (OTW).
My Asks are open but I often take long breaks to rest and recharge so if I don't get back to you, please be patient
Note: this blog is for adults only. If you are under the age of majority in your country, please pass it by.

Saturday Morning Vid Recs - Women!
Back in January I told @poetikat that I wanted to share just a fraction of vids I’ve seen since I started vidding in 2007 that I love. Taken me forever to format the links into a post to share. I have several more posts half-finished and may show up on your dashboard in following weeks or months.
I'm reccing vids that are at least 1 year old, but most of these vids are 4 and 8 and 12 years old and sometimes older. These vids feature a variety of sources, characters, genres of music, genres of shows. Each of these vidders have their own style and the way they approach a song or a source. I love these vids, they're fun to watch, they're hot, mesmerizing, engaging, thoughtful, full of love and horniness and BAMFs and joy and struggle. I love. I love.
I give to you 23 vids for this weekend's theme:
Women!!
Learning to Fly by rhoboat. Beautiful Boxer (2004). A movie vid based on trans Thai boxer Nong Toom’s life. This song is so good showing her journey to learning to find herself and fly! Ako Te Reo by bironic. Rūrangi (2020). Ana learning Te Reo Māori. This vid is so wonderful! It's never too late to learn. Come on Feet by JinkyO. Pumzi (2009). The song choice and pacing is incredible for this Kenyan sci-fi film. Something has to keep us moving forward. Black Nails by fightingarrival. A League of their Own (2022). A Max vid that is a great look at her journey on the show. This vid makes me want to rewatch all her scenes all over again. Here, take this L. Damned if She Do by chaila. Borgen. This source is the Danish political drama Borgen. Birgette is so kick-ass and this song is perfect for her. She come alive when she dying. "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." Strict Machine by such_heights. Doctor Who. River Song. I’m in love with River Song so of course I have to rec this. I get high on a buzz then a rush when I'm plugged in you. Counting Stars by beccatoria. DC Animated Wonder Woman. Beccatoria has always done such a great job of vidding animated source and WOMEN!!!! Superstar by @heresluck. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A Faith vid. This (one of many) epic Faith vids to come out of vidding fandom over the years. This vid lives rent free in my head. But I would pay this vid to live in my head because I love it so much. Never gonna be the same again.
Down & Dirty by @sweeter-than. Killjoys. A Dutch fanvid! A++ song choice for a character study showing her relationship with the Jacobi brothers and her general awesomeness. Make way. Cut Like a Buffalo by kiki_miserychic. Empire. Cookie Lyon fanvid! Cookie has all the skin in the game and she is so good at music, but damn there’s so much bullshit she has to deal with along the way. Yeah, you know I look like a woman but I / Cut like a buffalo / Stand up like a tower, tall / Then I fall just like a domino. Control: A Monstress Fanvid by garrideb. Based on the comic Monstress. You know this Halsey song + any woman who has been Going Through It is going to be a fucking ride. Great editing, amazing art. Fortunate One by @moocowmoocow The Expanse. CAMINA!!! DRUMMER!!!! A Sleater-Kinney cover of Fortunate Son is 10 million kinds of brilliance here for Camina and this source. I ain't no fortunate one. Celebrity Skin by @some-stars. Black Sails. This is an Eleanor and Max character vid. I repeat: Elenor and Max vid to Courtney Love’s music. Heed the warnings. This vid is so goddamn good. It better be worth it. Double Woman by starlady. Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame. So much awesomeness packed into this vid. Through the camera lens re-editing history gives imagination to the people. Wu Zetian and Shangguang Jing'er are awesome. Hooray for awesome ladies of the Tang Dynasty! Titanium by giandujakiss. Wonder Woman (the original tv show). She is titanium! Suffering Sappho.
Mirrors by @kuwdora. Snow White and the Huntsman. Queen/Snow. Lots of fantasy imagery and bdsm like themes since the Queen wants to suck the youth from Snow. Sex. Love. Control. Vanity. Lightning Field by bradcpu, a Legend of the Seeker fanvid of Cara/Kahlan. The imagery in this vid is outstanding, the tone the atmosphere. I have rewatched this more times than I can count. Strike me down, Give it everything you've got. Hands Away by chaila and beccatoria. Sarah Connor Chronicles/Fringe. Sarah/Olivia constructed reality fanvid that is constructed really really fucking well that you might forget that these are two different shows. I can't reach you. (Or, two messiahs walk into an alternate reality) Hurricane by @laurashapiro. Farscape and Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck/Aeryn.This vid is so epic and hot and incredible...Hot and sexy and can’t take your eyes off them. Two pilots walk into a bar. I Wanna Go by millylicious, a multi-source action vid Angelia Jolie tribute. This is fun and delightful. Space Girl by charmax. Multi-source space women and girls! My momma told me I should never watch Sci-fi but I did, I did, I did. Celebration by sweetestrain. Pop divas. Madonna, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, etc. Another one of my favorites of favorites. The connected imagery between all of these music videos still blows my mind, but goes to show you how pop music continues to build and evolve from each other. Plus sexy dancing. If it makes you feel good. Your Song by anoel. Multi-fandom. One of the most epic sapphic/wlw vids out there. I don’t wanna hear sad songs anymore, I only wanna hear love songs.
Hope you like these recs! Follow the tags to keep up #saturday morning vid recs and/or #kuwdora recs

Submitting to the Zine
Let's Talk About Vids is a zine for talking about vids - otherwise known as fanvids, AMVs, edits, etc.
It was partially inspired by the regular Anatomy of a Vid panel at the VidUKon convention, in which vid watchers choose a vid they enjoy to analyse in depth.
I felt like there was an appetite for more analysis of vids, more detailed discussion about the artistic process of making vids, and more places to share vid recommendations. This zine is focused more on the artistic side than the technical side of vidding, but of course sometimes the latter will come up as part of the conversation!
The first issue of Let's Talk About Vids will come out sometime in the next few months. It will be a PDF e-zine, at least to start with!
The content of the zine will be made up of submissions from folks who want to talk about vids! The zine is seeking:
quick vid recommendations, for vids both new and old (from 1 sentence up to 100 words)
longer pieces that explore a specific vid in depth, whether a close reading or something else (200-1000 words)
vidders' reflections on their artistic process for a specific vid they made (200-1000 words)
longer pieces that explore a specific vidshow in depth, either by the VJ or by someone else (200-1000 words)
If you have an idea for something else not listed here, get in touch! Also these word counts are guidelines to give a rough idea for folks who prefer to have parameters, definitely not a hard and fast rule.
Before you make your submission, a couple of things to note:
1) If you are writing an in-depth piece about a specific vid or vidshow, please do your best to get in touch with the vidder or VJ to ensure they're comfortable with it first.
2) While this zine is a space to talk in detail about vids, right now I'm not up for hosting and moderating conversations about what vids got wrong or could have done better. Submissions should be focused on what you think the vid/vidshow does well, what is interesting to you about it, and how it gets its point across.
3) There's no requirement for any particular level of: formality/structure, vidding experience/knowledge, spelling/grammar, etc - if you've got something to say about vids, say it in whatever way works for you! I may lightly edit for spelling and grammar if needed, with submitters' permission.
4) For now, please submit a maximum of one longer piece and one quick rec, OR three quick recs.
You can make submissions HERE until 25 August.
