VidUKon 2025 Themed Premieres Show!

The 2025 themed premieres vidshow theme is GPOY (Gratuitous Picture of Yourself)! As always we are open to a wide variety of interpretations, which could include:

A vid that is characteristic of you/ in your wheelhouse thematically, character-wise, stylistically, in song choice, etc.

A vid dealing with something significant to you, even if it's something you haven't vidded before: your favourite childhood movie, a trope you love, a topic that is important to you, etc.

A vid made from your existing vids (please do not simply put an existing vid of yours to new music — there must be new editing involved).

If you have a very different interpretation please feel free to contact us and check if it fits the brief. You can reply to our Dreamwidth post or email us at vidukon@gmail.com.

The vid must be a premiere and will be shown in a dedicated vidshow at VidUKon. Only one vid per vidder is allowed, as with Premieres and Vidder's Choice. The submission deadline for this show — as with the Premieres and Vidder's Choice shows — is Sunday April 6 at 23:59 British Summer Time (UTC+1).

I did a presentation at VidUKon 2024 titled "Seamless Audio Edits", which includes a rundown of some basic music theory that's useful to think about when editing songs, as well as some specific technical pointers for creating seamless edits.

VidUKon 2025: Past Forward Vidshow Recs Wanted

I'm VJing "Past Forward", a VidUKon 2025 vidshow showcasing fanvids that use older media (1980 and earlier) cut with modern  music and editing styles. I would love your recs for fanvids that fuse the past and present and give a fresh perspective on familiar sources.

FAQ

What types of sources are you looking for? Films, TV, Books, Comics, and anything else - as long as it features a source dating from 1980 or earlier.

What do you mean by modern music? I don't have a hard cut-off year for music and I don't know what I don't know. So, if you know of a Metropolis (1927) vid cut to "Revolution" by The Beatles (1968), send me the deets and we'll check the vibes.

What do you mean by modern editing styles? I'm particularly interested in vids that do something new with the video sources. This could be in the pacing of the cuts, masking, overlays, cropping, on-screen text, source audio, etc.

Can I rec a vid I made? YES! Self-recs are very welcome!

Are you accepting Premieres for this vidshow? A hesitant, yes. This is baby's first VJing gig and I anticipate a learning curve. If you want to submit a premiering vid for this show, it would be due by April 6. Please shoot me a message first.

VidUKon 2025: Fuck The Patriarchy Vidshow

I'm putting together a vidshow for VidUKon 2025 (@vidukon) \o/ I'd love to have premieres so if this theme is something you've been wanting to make a vid about, I'd be delighted to include it. I'm also happy to receive suggestions of vids that already exist and I should be aware of and consider as I build the show.

The deadline for premiere submissions is April 6th. Please fill out the premiere interest form by March 15th so I know the vid may be incoming.

The general show structure will be 'experiencing patriarchy', 'fighting back / doing something about it', and 'post-patriarchy/(queer) utopia/joy’.

Programming submissions are open for VidUKon 2025!

Programming suggestions for VidUKon 2025 are now open! We will be accepting submissions until February 14 2025 (the end of the day everywhere).

Please submit your content suggestions, whether for shows, panels, or something else, in this google form. Most fields are not mandatory, so if you only have a vid show idea but not a panel or vice versa, that’s fine. Multiple ideas, if you have them, are encouraged, but please submit them separately, just to make our lives a bit easier.

If you have an idea for something new that’s not quite a vidshow or panel, we’d love to hear that too.

As ever, we welcome programming ideas from first-time VJs and panellists as well as from veterans - if you’d like to give it a try but you’re not sure where to start, please get in touch! We’re happy to chat it through with you. You’re also very welcome to VJ as a pair or a group.

As the con has grown, so has the number of programming submissions. In the likely event that we have too many programme items to choose from, we will emphasise items that form a coherent and complementary programme, as well as trying to give new VJs and panellists a chance to shine.

We will endeavour to let submitters know whether their item has been selected as soon as possible after the deadline, to allow plenty of time to prepare.

The unthemed premieres happened last night, and the whole show was amazing. The VJ did such a good job of putting it together.

Below are my particular favourites.

The War Was in Color, by theletterelle (Multifandom, Gen) A brilliant concept, brilliantly realised. So damn good.

9-1-1, by Rhea (9-1-1, Gen) Fantastic commentary on working in Emergency Services.

Watershed, by periru3 (Studio Ghibli, Gen) A stunning retrospective.

The Song We Were Singing, by alba17 (The Beatles, Gen) Brilliantly edited character study of the band. So good.

Vanity is Definitely My Favorite Sin, by bStro Al Pacino is and always will be the coolest, which this vid illustrates perfectly.

The System is Down, by pollyrepeat (Severance, Gen) Surreal and gorgeous, with the music ramping everything up to eleven.

From the Air, by JinkyO (Person of Interest, Gen) Creepy and fantastic repeating simulations, with the most amazing music choice.

Dumb Ways to Die, by valoise (Midsomer Murders, Teen) Exactly what the title promises, executed perfectly (pun intended). Violent and funny.

Bad Idea, Right? by Pennyplainknits (Star Wars, Gen) LOL. Sometimes gag vids are just THE BEST.

We Like to Party, by marah_sarie (Farscape, Gen) So much fun, showcasing all the glorious bizareness of this source.
