A Prissy Girl’s Guide to Fall

back by popular demand, i’m here with another prissy girl guide! this post is a bit late for the fall but it’ll allow you to finish the season off in a pretty fashion, and transition to the winter smoothly. i’ll be discussing the look i’ve been adorned in as of late and my fav products i’ll be using for the spirit of fall! 💓

what’s the look this fall?

the look this season is “divalicious barbie.” voluminous hair, tapered square nails and fur details + neutral color palettes. add in a few pops of pink and some sparkly detailz and you got my look this fall. “sexy chic.” i’ve been really leaning into the vibe of a runway supermodel diva emulsion. as you may have seen, my birthday outfit drew from many inspirations, focally the early nineties alaia runway shows. just immense glamour, class and girliness with a healthy dose of sexy.

first and foremost…

the weather is turning so a lot of us are catching colds. take care of your health and rest. protect your immune system and dress according to weather. i almost always get sick around late september/early october and its because of the dip my immune system takes due to the change in climate.

preparation

some of you are in school like me. one of the reasons the fall is my fav season is because it’s time to get back to the basics. you should be developing new study routines around this time or perfecting the ones you have already

new school supplies + stationery. pretty girls deserve to stay stocked up on glitter ink and fuzzy pens

start saving money for the holiday season

get a handle on your halloween look early so not to scramble when the day comes

stock up on tea, immune boosters like emergen-c and medicine

start going outside in the morning to get the vitamin D and K you may lose out on as the seasons turn

set new goals and track them in a diary or planner

try to get well rested. the change from fall to winter can cause a lot of mood and energy complications due to lack of rest

My own list in this post is anime, manga, games mostly but in the spreadsheet you can add anything.

Following my tierlist of them, I realized I should make a public list so theyre not just kept in my head, since I spent quite a while finding these characters. If you want to watch/play anything with trans or gnc characters, you can use this list.

They range from good rep to bad, characters viewed as "traps" or not taken seriously to ones that the whole fandom understands is trans. I've added trigger warnings to the characters and fandoms I know can be triggering. I've also put certain names in bold to show that they're a main character, but i've only watched a few on this list so some are missing.

I would add trigger warnings for "bury your gays" and similar tropes, but I want to avoid spoilers. Maybe you can look it up first if you're worried. I've tried to exclude characters that are referred to as hermaphrodites.

“And that concludes our tour.” 

Sariel Noir adjusts his glasses as he turns to face the young woman he’s just spent an hour with. Her wide eyes, a bright gray that reminds him of quicksilver, are still drinking in her surroundings with obvious pleasure and awe. A part of him is proud to see the effect the palace has on her, this place he pours so much of his time and energy into keeping orderly and safe. Marigold Jacobs can’t help herself. She’s visited the royal palace in Jade several times due to her father’s renown as an astronomer and Prince Keith’s deep interest in the field. It's impressive by any measure but now, in Rhodolite she finds herself confronted with the elegance that is the royal palace with its towering spires and delicate design, the breathtaking ornateness of its rooms and the richness of its very aura. Why, it takes one's breath away. She reaches up, adjusting her own round, gold-rimmed glasses and sighs contentedly.

“I really must thank you for such an informative tour, Minister Noir. And for taking the time personally to see to my room and board here.”

He smiles and it reminds her of the smooth play of a breeze over still waters. “It is my pleasure, Ms. Jacobs. We are very happy to accommodate academic endeavors and I know the king will be especially pleased that a literary historian such as yourself is choosing to dive into the works of one of our most famous writers.”

Marigold nods, feeling a warm sense of pride course through her. “I have heard he is fond of Victoria Hugo and her writing. I look forward to meeting King Chevalier when he returns.”

Sariel nods, then reaches into the jacket of his ebony coat, producing a scroll tied with a silk ribbon the color of violets at midnight. “Please take this and keep it with you when making your way through the palace. It is written permission for your use of the royal library as well as any study in which you may choose to do your work.”

“My thanks, Minister.” Marigold takes the scroll and gingerly tucks it into the woven bag hanging across her body. The bag is nearly the exact same russet color as her high-necked dress. The only splash of color she wears are the green and gold earrings her parents gifted her on her last birthday, small emerald studs that she values deeply. To her, they represent Jade with its lush greens and royal golds, a subtle way to honor her home country while abroad.

With a polite bow, Sariel takes his leave, reminding her to please let him know if she requires anything else. As she watches him go, elegant even when doing something as mundane as walking, Marigold feels fresh excitement fizzle through her body like champagne bubbles. She’s really here! In the royal palace! With complete access to all of its resources! 

She thought her room, tucked away in the western wing of the palace, was already a marvel with its small balcony overlooking the stables, the rolling fields and in the distance, the shimmering lake. But now, she stands in the courtyard at the entrance to the famous royal gardens. How can she resist a quick stroll through them before supper?

Just a walk along the path, she tells herself, just a glance at the place so many poets have written about and artists have immortalized. The scent of roses is strong, perfuming the air with their dusky scent. Marigold takes it all in, pausing to admire a topiary in the shape of a fawn, a small fountain depicting a fairy pouring water over the head of a tiny frog. Her sensible brown boots kick up small whorls of dust as she walks the dirt path. If I remember the layout correctly there should be a gazebo around here somewhere. Maybe she can find it. 

As she wanders, she notices how the hedges grow higher, past her shoulders, then past her head with its glossy, chestnut bun. They seem to be stretching up towards the sky itself, reaching their leaves up towards its robin-egg blue beauty.

So lost is she in admiring the sights that she does not notice how she has stepped off the dirt path and onto an area of green grass covered in odd patches of leaves and twigs. A particularly large hedge full of exquisite purple hibiscus has caught her eye and she walks towards it, eager to get a closer look. 

Suddenly, the hibiscus is retreating, growing more and more distant as the ground beneath her feet gives. Her world tilts and for a moment, all she sees is pristine sky. And then she is falling, falling, falling, for what feels like an eternity but is actually only a few seconds.

“Ahhhh!” 

OOF.

She hits the bottom of the ditch with an undignified thunk, sprawled out on her back, the wind temporarily knocked out of her. Gasping for the breath that keeps trying to elude her, Marigold needs several seconds to reconnect body with mind. Slowly, she pushes herself up into a sitting position. Her palms sink slightly into the dirt ground and tilting her head up, she sees she has fallen into a perfectly circular hole in the ground. With a shaking hand, she adjusts her glasses which had gone askew with the temporary loss of gravity and then with a loud groan, she stands. She rotates each foot and wrist, turns her neck from side to side. She’s sore and will likely have some impressive bruises but she does not seem to be seriously injured.

“Oh dearie me.” 

She jerks her head up to see a face peering down at her over the edge of the ditch. A man with twilight hair and eyes the color of Goldenrod is looking down at her, white gloved fingers curled over the lip of the hole.

“Are you alright?” 

She breathes out, relieved that someone arrived so quickly. “Yes, I think so.” She pats her woven bag, sending a quick prayer of thanks that she did not flatten it with her fall. Not only does it have Minister Noir’s letter, but the key to her room, her pencils and small notebook as well as her spare pair of glasses.

And now that someone is there and she knows she isn’t hurt, something else fills her: anger, white hot and blinding.

“Would you believe some idiot dug a hole here? In the middle of the royal gardens?”

The man’s smile is almost amused as he tilts his head, regarding her. “Shocking.”

A pink blush colors her pale cheeks as she shakes her head. Loose strands of dark hair escaped her bun in the fall and now flutter angrily around her face. “It is! It really is! Who would dare do such a thing? I mean honestly, it’s absolutely juvenile behavior. A ridiculous, childish prank. I could have been seriously injured! Imagine if someone much older or much younger had wandered around here and fallen!”

“Maybe they would have watched where they were going.” He lifts a shoulder, still grinning. “I mean, there was a big piles of leaves and sticks in the middle of the grass. That could have been a clue not to walk there.”

She narrows her eyes, gray as a winter’s storm. “I was admiring the flowers! And besides, it’s still a hazard!” Another thought occurs to her. “Oh! The princes are bound to be furious! Not to mention King Chevalier when he finds out that his gardens have been vandalized by some….some ruffian!”

“No! Not a ruffian!” There is amusement in his voice, so clear that it snaps her temporarily out of her rant.

“You could offer me a hand you know, instead of just kneeling there and mocking me.”

“I could.” 

He doesn’t move. He's apparently having too much fun watching her.

Marigold scowls and stares at him. Those eyes. She has never thought of anyone as having eyes that actually sparkle. It always seemed a silly, romantic descriptor…but his truly do. A light dances within their golden depths. Even more annoyed by her own observation, she wipes at her nose, leaving a charming streak of dirt across its bridge, one that nearly covers her scattering of freckles.

“Well?” She thrusts her hand up towards him. He considers it just long enough to send another flood of angry red into her cheeks before he leans down, grasping her hand and forearm. 

“Jump on three.” 

Oh, his bright eyes are so vexing. And that smile. 

“One…two….three. Now!”

She jumps and he pulls. He’s stronger than she anticipated and she might as well be part kangaroo because together they manage to get her out of the ditch in one, violent arc which ends with Marigold Jacobs landing directly on top of her extremely attractive but aggravating savior. He’s flat on his back and she’s sprawled across him like a toad that’s done a belly-flop into a mud puddle.

Again she is rendered breathless, not only by the sheer speed in which she was yanked out but by the sudden feel of the man’s long body underneath her, the closeness of his face with it’s charming beauty mark under the curve of his bottom lip, the shocking revelation of just how dazzling his eyes are. He is just as transfixed as he stares at her, his hands having moved to her waist of their own accord. Her face, though streaked with earth, is quietly lovely. A fact one may miss at first or even second glance, but close as she is now, he can see the elegant line of her jaw and cheek, the smoothness of her skin. Her lashes are dark and long. They nearly brush the lenses of her glasses and when he notices her freckles across the bridge of her nose, barely visible under the dirt, his heart skips a beat. 

“Oh no, what have you done now?”

Another voice, deep and masculine, cuts through the moment and sends it scattering to the winds like a horde of startled butterflies. Marigold scrambles off of the man with aurelian eyes, hurriedly trying to smooth down her dress and push her hair out of her face. The man is slower to stand, grinning as he faces the annoyed scowl of the red-haired man in front of him.

“I didn’t do anything. She is the one who fell into a hole which wasn't meant for her.”

Marigold tears her eyes away from the handsome red-haired man in his lavender and white livery to gasp at her rescuer. “Wait a minute? YOU dug that hole?” 

He holds out both hands and shrugs, mirth and mischief hanging on the corners of his grin.

Marigold draws herself up to full height and steps menacingly towards him. “So YOU’RE the vile ruffian who desecrated the royal gardens and then had the nerve to find it funny?” She is almost sputtering she’s so angry. “You….you pompous….ignorant, thick-headed, immature, rough-hewn churl! I’ll tell the princes what you’ve done! Let them deal with a lout like you!” She’s breathing heavily, one hand balled into a fist as she glares at him. If looks could kill, he’d have been murdered a dozen times over.

The red-haired man looks as if he doesn't know whether to burst out laughing or throw himself into the ditch. What he ends up with is a somewhat beleaguered expression, tinted with amusement.

“Ah……you should tell her.”

The man in the lavender jacket grins. “But I’m having such fun.”

Absolutely still on her anger high, Marigold spins to look at the red-haired man. “Tell me what?”

With a heavy sigh, he gestures towards the ruffian. “May I present Prince Clavis Lelouch, third Prince of Rhodolite. Or as I like to call him, the Idiot Prince.”

The….third….what….? 

Slowly Marigold turns back and then, like an image slowly and horrifically coming into focus, she notices the rich material of his clothing, the silk of his tie, the golden rose-shaped tie pin, the pristine white of his pants, the fine leather of his belts and boots. 

Oh…..no….

Wishing she were back in the ditch, Marigold drops into a curtsey, struggling to stay upright. He is a prince of Rhodolite. And she insulted him with all her furious heart. She’ll be sent back to Jade in disgrace, her research over before it has even begun. Her parents will be disappointed. Her professors will never trust her again. She’ll end up a laughing stock at the university all because she couldn’t hold her tongue.

Surprisingly gentle fingers touch her chin, asking without words for her to rise and lift her head. Clavis is standing in front of her, his touch lingering just a moment after she’s straightened up.

“You were absolutely in the right to be angry, Miss…..?”

“Jacobs,” she manages, though her mouth is dry, “Marigold Jacobs.”

“Miss Marigold Jacobs. I apologize that you were my accidental victim. This ditch was intended for one of my brothers and not you.” He lights up as a sudden idea occurs to him. “You must let me make up for it. I’ll have breakfast prepared for you!”

“Oh no,” Cyran mutters. 

Clavis is nodding even as Marigold stammers in protest. “No, please your Highness, you don’t have to go through any trouble because of me.”

He waves his hand. “It’s not trouble, it’s fun!” He’s positively gleeful. “Tomorrow morning at 8 o’clock sharp!” He looks over his shoulder. “Cyran, please fill the ditch.” He pauses. “But only this one.”

Marigold’s eyes widen. There are others…??!

“I’ll see you tomorrow morning, Marigold Jacobs!” He is on his way out when he stops, glancing at the purple hibiscus that caused all this trouble. He reaches up, carefully plucking one and then with a twinkle in his eye, tosses it towards her. She catches it easily and he smiles, nodding as if satisfied. “Til breakfast!”

And then he is gone. 

Marigold blinks, wondering if this is a fever dream or if this really just happened. The ache in her back and delicate flower in her hand tell her it really did. 

She insulted a Prince of Rhodolite and it ended with her being invited to breakfast. 

Not even her wildest fantasies could have dreamed this up.

She offers Cyran her thanks and is met with scowling and insults about Clavis that far exceed her own. As she walks slowly back in the direction of the palace, she glances down at the purple flower, wondering why she has the feeling that her time with Prince Clavis is far from over.

And why somehow, a quiet, whispered corner of her mind thinks that isn’t a terrible feeling at all.

Pagan Wedding Colors Cheat Sheet

In the last couple of years, there's been a move away from correspondences in the Tumblr pagan community. I mostly think that's a good thing. Correspondence lists tend to be oversimplifications and to only highlight a single trait of a given plant, crystal, color, or whatever -- and yes, you tend to lose a lot of nuance when you do that. I think, in general, encouraging people to engage with their spiritual tools and allies as complex, multi-faceted entities is a good thing.

HOWEVER, correspondence lists can be very useful as starting points for further research. A quick, simple summary of an item's use in a certain context can give readers an idea of whether that item is worth looking into further. It can also help limit research options to something more manageable for those of us that are easily prone to choice paralysis. (Hello, fellow neurodivergent pagans!)

With all of this in mind, here is my quick and dirty "cheat sheet" for pagan wedding color symbolism, correspondences, and spiritual associations. I hope this will help other pagan brides, grooms, and spouses-to-be as they design their wedding celebrations, and as always I encourage you to use this post as a jumping off point for further research and reflection.

A Quick Note About Meaning

Not everything you include in your wedding needs to have a spiritual meaning attached to it. You can include things purely because you like them or think they're cool. If you want to get married in a black dress because you think black wedding dresses look badass, that's all the reason you need -- you don't have to know the associations of the color black in different pagan traditions. Your wedding choices can be exactly as deep and symbolic as you want them to be.

Color Symbolism

White is the traditional color for weddings in Western culture. And if that tradition is meaningful to you, by all means, include white in your wedding clothes and decorations! Most pagan faiths include some form of ancestor worship, and for many of us, the last several generations of our ancestors have had white weddings. Getting married in the same color dress (or tux, or other outfit) as your parents and grandparents can be very meaningful on its own. If you choose to get married in white to honor your ancestors and your culture, that's a perfectly wonderful option.

White as "the wedding color" goes back at least to the Roman Republic. Historian Karen K. Hersch says that Roman grooms wore all white and that while brides wore a white tunic. We don't know exactly what symbolism the color white had to Romans, but it may have represented purity or new beginnings.

Outside of Rome, white was actually uncommon as a color for wedding clothes until very recently. In medieval Europe, brides dressed in a variety of colors chosen based on personal preference. White didn't become popular until 1840, when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in a white dress trimmed with lots of white lace. This wasn't actually meant as a fashion statement -- supposedly, the queen chose the dress she did to help out the English lace industry, which was struggling at the time. Fashionable brides rushed to copy the royal couple, and the rest is history. Associations with virginity didn't come until after white wedding dresses became popular.

If you want to choose your wedding colors based on modern color associations, white is associated with purity, cleansing, new beginnings, healing, and spiritual growth. In some traditions, it is also associated with the full moon. In Wicca, white is associated with the Goddess.

Black is believed by many modern Westerners to be bad luck at weddings, mainly because it's the main color we associate with death and funerals. It's considered rude to wear black to someone else's wedding. Even so, black wedding dresses have become a trend in the last few years as a bold, slightly edgy fashion statement.

Black wedding clothes date back to the Zhou Dynasty in China, where couples wore black to avoid violating clothing taboos related to gender and social class. In 17th century Spain, Catholic women got married in black silk dresses as a sign that they were committed to their husbands until death. Goth couples have been getting married in black for decades as a way of rejecting traditional values.

Black's modern associations are protection, truth, night, outer space, banishing, and transition. Wiccan author Scott Cuningham says that black symbolizes "the ultimate source of divine energy," and in some Feri traditions it is associated with Star Goddess.

Red is the color I chose to get married in, and it's one of the most popular wedding colors across the globe. Red is the color of choice for wedding clothing in India and China. In China, red is the luckiest color and wearing it brings good fortune, especially when beginning something new.

Red may also have been one of the colors of choice for Roman weddings. Scholars are not sure what color the flammeum (bridal veil) was, but in at least one source it is described as sanguineum (blood red). Statius describes Juno, the goddess of women and marriage, giving a couple "sacred bonds" that were colored white and red. To Romans, red may have symbolized future generations, the mixing of "bloodlines," and/or the hearth of the couple's new home.

Red also played a role in some Ancient Hellenic (Greek) weddings. Athenian brides wore veils of yellow (see below) or red, which represented fire. Some sources describe the flame-colored veils scaring away evil spirits that might interfere with the couple's marriage.

While Norse culture didn't have a dedicated "wedding color," we know that red was a popular dye color for Norse women's clothes. Many Norse brides probably got married in red, and red would be a historically accurate choice for a modern Heathen wedding.

Red's modern associations are protection, the fire element, sex, romance, power, vitality, fertility, passion, courage, and good health. Scott Cunningham associates both red and orange with the God in his solar aspect.

Yellow may not be as popular with modern brides, but it has a long historic association with weddings. As previously mentioned, ancient Athenian brides wore a yellow or red veil on their wedding day, which represented fire and scared away evil spirits.

Yellow veils also played an important part in weddings in the Roman Republic. The flammeum, the bridal veil, was the single most important article of clothing in a Roman wedding -- in fact, the Roman word for weddings, nuptiae, is connected to the act of veiling. While some sources describe the flammeum as blood red (see above), there is actually even more evidence for orange-yellow veils. Pliny the Elder compared the color of a bride's veil to egg yolk. In cases where brides wore yellow veils, it was probably meant to protect them from evil spirits.

Yellow may also have been a popular color in pre-Christian Irish weddings. Although there doesn't seem to have been a standard "wedding color" in Ireland, yellow was associated with blessings, good fortune, and protection, which would have made it an obvious choice for weddings. We know that yellow was one of the most popular colors for clothing in medieval Ireland, with sources describing clothes as "saffron." Yellow clothing was so closely tied to Irish identity that it was actually banned under British occupation!

Yellow's modern associations are success, inspiration, communication, mental clarity, divination, the element of air, charm, confidence, joy, and harmony. Gold has similar associations to yellow.

Blue is a beautiful color for weddings, and used to be much more common. In medieval Europe, blue was one of the most popular colors for wedding dresses because of its association with the Virgin Mary. By wearing Mary's color at their weddings, brides emphasized their purity, virginity, and piety.

Blue's modern associations are healing, stillness, peace, the water element, psychic abilities, truth, patience, understanding, devotion, wisdom, and the ocean. Scott Cunningham associates blue with the Goddess in her watery aspect.

Purple may have been one of the colors of choice for Hellenic weddings. Achilles Tatius describes a bride wearing a purple dress in his romance Leucippe and Clitophon. In the Roman Republic, purple was associated with manhood, and white togas with a purple hem were a sign of a boy coming of age.

In medieval Europe, purple was a color reserved for royalty, and it was actually illegal for people who weren't royals to wear purple clothing.

Purple's modern associations are mystery, magic, divine power, spiritual awareness, sentimentality, wisdom, strength, and progress. Scott Cunningham associates purple with a deepening connection to the God and Goddess.

Silver is another color that may have been part of Hellenic weddings. In Hesiod's Theogony, Pandora is described wearing a silver dress at her wedding.

Silver's modern associations are refinement, wealth, the moon, nobility, and sophistication. In Wiccan and other neopagan communities, silver is associated with the Goddess in her lunar aspect.

Green is a popular wedding color for modern pagans, especially those who follow a nature-based path. It represents the lush fertility of the earth and is connected to fertility spirits like the Green Man.

It's important to note that green used to be considered an unlucky color for weddings, especially in Celtic cultures. This is because of the color's close connection to Fairy. Green was considered the Other Crowd's color, and wearing it could attract their attention in a negative way.

Green's modern associations are nature, plants, the earth element, money, wealth, prosperity, good luck, growth, rejuvenation, nurturing, and good health.

Pink may not have been very popular with ancient cultures (although some sources describe the Roman flammeum as a reddish-pink), but it is one of the colors most strongly associated with romantic love in modern popular culture. Pink is a soft, romantic, dreamy color, and is perfect for sweet, intimate weddings.

Pink is associated with romantic love, friendship, self love, compassion, playfulness, sweetness, emotional well-being, unity, honor, and spiritual healing.

Fans were only as interested in Vic as they were in Damiano in the context of the band because Victoria was the only woman and that made her stand out.

Without maneskin active, the interest in Vic has plummeted. She's been losing followers on Instagram daily, she averages half the amount of likes she did at the same time last year. Meanwhile Damiano has gained 200k ig followers since he's gone solo officially, has already surpassed Vic in the total likes on tiktok with far fewer videos than her and despite only starting posting 3 months later than her and it's a matter of days before he surpasses her on followers there too.

The truth is that no matter how much it pains Victoria stans, the star is Damiano. Damiano outside the band still generates interest, people talking about him either positively or negatively. Victoria outside the band is an uninteresting dj. She can't stand on her own without the context of being the only girl. She doesn't have a unique enough thing to offer to pull that off.

And who cares if she was the one who started the band? Good for her but her fans keep saying that as if that makes her some kind of mastermind when maneskin wouldn't have even passed the first Xfactor audition without Damiano. The judges called Ethan downright bad, which he was at the time, and Vic and Thomas weren't much better. They only became decent in 2018 and good musicians after 2019. While Damiano was already a full fledged artist in 2017.

everything Damiano does generates interest. He made out with Martina once and that got her 70k followers in a week. He turned Giorgia from an unknown model to a published author and influencer with 700+ k followers. Diesel is putting out an entire collection designed by him despite maneskin fans making fun of his style while praising Victoria as the fashion genius of the band 😂

If Victoria wasn't so self centred she would've accepted he's the leader and not tried to outshine him constantly. That's the reason why bands like arctic monkeys have lasted because the musicians don't try to compete with the lead singer. But she believed herself more important than she was, just like Giorgia did. What they have in common is that they both didn't realise their popularity was dependent on Damiano. And I'm not being misogynistic just realistic.

so this has been on my mind since i first saw Rap Tugger's design!

because it's honestly SUCH a good design, it just doesn't fit within the replica cats show, so i feel like creating a non-replica where each character is based around a different dance/music genre would be the most fitting spot for Rap Tugger's design!

(and idc, i'm a changed woman, Rap Tugger's version of Tugger's song is an actual bop, and his lil Mistoffelees rap is wonderful, me from two years ago didn't know what she was thinking)

so i have a few ideas:

Tugger: obviously Rap Tugger, keep that design because it's perfect

Munkustrap: rock, idk why but i'm imagining him as the rock genre, mainly because i think it'd be cool if he and Macavity have similar styles and the Macavity fight music would be more of a rock style

Old Deuteronomy: country, and that includes a nice big cowboy hat because ofc it does

Jennyanydots: Flamenco, because i think the tap-dancing would translate SO well into a flamenco number

Victoria and Mistoffelees: traditional ballet outfits, think something from the Nutcracker or Swan Lake (i just like the siblings matching i think it'd be cute)

Plato: thinking about Plato in a punk-style outfit and performing alongside Victoria in her fluffy tutu is literally the cutest thing so yeah them 😌

idk i'm imagining Etcetera, Electra, and Jemima in k-pop-style outfits

Dogs in the Snow [Park Jung Soo - Leeteuk x FemOC Freya]

A short fanfic with a female OC.

Featuring K-Actor Hong Jong Hyun and SUPER JUNIOR's leader Leeteuk (Park Jung Soo).

Freya waves to the armchair by the fireplace to invite him to sit down.  

Hong Jong Hyun, South Korean actor she befriended half a year ago, takes a seat with his typical bright teeth wolf like smile. He’s the very embodiment of fitness and good nature. And also a player and thief of hearts. Freya would never think she will find a common ground with such a man but Jong Hyun’s cheerful spirit is difficult to fight. He decided to become friends with her and so that happened. His stubbornness can match her own. After all what happened she couldn’t deny the little spark of joy from his visit.  

“What brings you here, Jong Hyun?” Freya asks as she is pouring tea into delicate tea cups. This isn’t her house. It belongs to Victoria, Freya’s sister who got married to Cha Hak Yeon, leader of South Korean group VIXX. Their marriage is a happy one and Victoria is currently overflowing with health and good spirit from her pregnancy. She will soon give birth to three children! Nobody could doubt Hak Yeon’s prolificacy. And his generosity and care were undeniable as well. Shortly after the marriage Hak Yeon purchased a piece of land in a prominent part of Seoul and he personally participated in designing the new house to be built there for his wife and future family. It’s all finished now. And Victoria made sure to turn the place into a proper home and aristocratic mansion by hiring servants. Victoria and Freya are from a very old noble family originating in Rigantona. Victoria was born to become a real mistress of a large mansion, she was supposed to marry a noble man from an old respectable family and live the life of a true lady. However Victoria was never a gentle and weak soul and she chose her own path and married an idol from the far east.  

When Freya was struck with another misfortune, Victoria and Hak Yeon insisted on her coming to Seoul and living in their house.  

“How are you feeling, Freya?” Jong Hyun asks and he watches her carefully. Her hands are slightly shaking while pouring the tea. She is dressed in white – long white silken tunic with silver embroidery and soft white loose fit trousers. She’s wearing a flexible wide white band on her head putting her long wavy dark brown hair away from her baby blue eyes. Jong Hyun is worried in his mind. When he met Freya for the first time, she was already slender and her eyes were lifeless like the eyes of a porcelain doll. Jong Hyun could see she was even more bony and lifeless now. She looked pale and sick, sad and joyless.  

Freya puts the teapot down and hands him one of the cups. She takes the other and sits in an armchair next to him. “How would you expect for me to feel, Jong Hyun?” Freya inhales sharply and sips from the cup.  

“I don’t know, to be frank. You are a mysterious woman, Freya.” Jong Hyun bends and rubs the head of one of Hak Yeon’s dogs. He’s got three of them, male Rottweilers named after VIXX’s albums – Kratos, Zelos and Hades. They were a gift from Freya's other sister, veterinarian Calliope. Jong Hyun could never tell the dogs apart but Hak Yeon loved them as if they were his children and could recognise them easily in the dark.  

“I keep no secrets from you.” Freya reacts openly.  

“Then tell me this: Do you eat regularly?”  

Her hand freezes in the middle of a move and she shuts her eyes. Her lips bitterly curve. “Is this why you came? To criticise and lecture me like everybody else in this house already does?” Freya opens her eyes and gives Jong Hyun a sharp stare.  

“Of course not, Freya! I’m just worried about you…”  

“There is no need for that. You’re not responsible for me, Jong Hyun.”  

“What is it, Freya? Tell me what is troubling you?” Jong Hyun refuses to give up. When they became friends they promised absolute honesty to each other. They promised to always be true to each other, no matter how uncomfortable it might be. Jong Hyun counts on that now. He hopes for Freya to keep her word and tell him the truth.  

Freya sighs and puts the tea cup on a table. Her hand shakes a bit and the tea gets spilt on the surface. She moans and wants to pick a napkin to wipe it but Jong Hyun is faster.  

“I got it. Relax, Freya.” He says and cleans the table.  

Freya makes an annoyed noise and she leans back deeper into the armchair. She is chafing her hands. They look normal but Jong Hyun knows everything about what happened. “This happens all the time now. I’m so useless!” Freya nearly whispers, her voice is angry.  

“Don’t say that. You are not useless. You are the smartest person I know.” Jong Hyun grabs her hand and squeezes it lightly to assure her about his support. “It will get well soon. This isn’t a permanent state.”  

“That’s the trouble, Jong Hyun. It is permanent.”  

“I know you lost a lot…”  

“I lost everything. Completely everything, Jong Hyun. And I’m exhausted. I’m just… so tired, Jong Hyun. I feel like I have lived several lives already. I have no more energy. All I want is to fall asleep and never wake up.”  

Jong Hyun inhales sharply and squeezes her hand harder as she gets frightened. “Freya!”  

“Calm down,” Freya waves her hand and shakes head. “I’m not going to try to kill myself. Not again. I won’t put my sisters through that again. However I have no intention to fight. I’m done fighting. I have learned my lesson and I know I can’t win.”  

“Freya, don’t talk like that. I hate to see you like this.”  

“Broken? But that’s how I feel. I have to be honest with you, remember? And to answer your question, no, I don’t eat regularly. I have no appetite. Victoria and Hak Yeon are trying but… I appreciate their care. I wish I could show more gratitude.”  

“I’m sure they don’t expect your gratitude. They love you and want you to be happy.”  

“They will be disappointed then.” Freya retorts and slips her hand out of his grip.  

Jong Hyun wishes to cheer her up. This woman experienced too much bad luck in her life. She deserves to be happy, she deserves to feel joy and to find a new meaning of life. Unfortunately he can’t figure out how to achieve that. “Freya, come for a walk with me.”  

“What?”  

“Let’s take the dogs for a walk, what do you think? I know a park nearby. Fresh air will give you some appetite.”  

“Jong Hyun… I have no mood for people.”  

“It’s -10°C and 9 in the evening. I will be surprised if we meet one or two desperate dog walkers out there. Come on, Freya. Let’s go for a walk like in Cornwall. Hmm? Do me the favour, Freya.”  

Freya looks into his eyes. It’s difficult to say no to this man. He’s got a certain boyish charm, the untainted and little bit naive soul. Freya has been through too much and she lost this kind of cheerful spirit. However she would never be so cruel to crush the joy in somebody else. She nods lightly. “Very well, Jong Hyun. I will dress warmly, give me ten minutes.” She stands up followed by him.  

Jong Hyun brightens up immediately. “Take your time. Where do you keep leashes for these beasts?” He asks while rubbing the three dogs again.  

“They hang in the hall by the coats. Excuse me.” Freya leaves and walks up the stairs. She enters her bedroom and changes into thick white velvet trousers and a long white turtleneck. She makes sure to cover the hideous scar on her neck. She goes to the main hall, Jong Hyun is already waiting there with excited Rottweilers tugging the leashes. Hak Yeon is standing next to him.  

“Freya! I’m glad you go for a walk but don’t stay out for long. It’s freezing, I don’t want you to catch a cold.” Hak Yeon grabs a long white coat with fake black fur on it’s collar and bottom rim and on the sleeve rim. He holds it for Freya and then hands her a fake black fur hat. She puts it on her head and reaches black leather gloves.  

“I will come back soon, Hak Yeon. Don’t worry.” She takes one leash from Jong Hyun and they walk out the house.  

The weather is truly cold. The snow is cracking under their feet as they walk. Street lamps make the ice crystals sparkle like glitters. Jong Hyun grabs the two leashes in one hand and offers Freya an arm for her to hook in it. She smiles mildly and does as he wants.  

“It’s not over, you gotta know that.” He pronounces with a calm reassuring voice. “You can still be happy.”  

Freya cringes. “I admire your optimism but I have no intention to pursue happiness any more. Some people are born for happiness like my sister and some are born to…” Freya cuts the sentence and shakes her head. “It doesn’t matter. I don’t want to discuss this. Would you mind changing the topic?”  

“Of course not! What would you like to talk about?”  

Freya looks at him with serious eyes. “Have you heard from Isis?” She asks shyly.  

Jong Hyun smirks. “Now it’s my turn for hurtful conversation, I see.”  

“We don’t have to talk about her, if you don’t want to.” Freya assures him promptly.  

“It’s okay. There is nothing much to say. I have sent her many emails with no response from her.” Jong Hyun refers to Freya’s sister who is an explosive expert serving in the army. She is in Afghanistan at the moment together with her two explosive sniffing dogs, Malinois shepherds called Fenris and Cerberos. Jong Hyun met her in Cornwall last September and he fell in love with her unexpectedly. Unfortunately he made a fatal mistake and vexed her a great deal. She didn’t let him explain and apologise and left for Afghanistan. He sends her emails ever since, trying to explain, to apologise, to gain her trust back. However Isis hasn't replied to a single mail he sent. She ignores him and that hurts Jong Hyun. He misses her still. He never felt anything like this to any woman before. It’s confusing.  

“She is in the mountains with poor connection.”  

“I doubt that there wasn’t a single opportunity to write to me back during those months, Freya. But thanks for trying. I have to accept the reality. She will never forgive me.”  

“I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you two.”  

They arrive at the park and unleash the dogs to let them run freely. Jong Hyun pulls a tennis ball out of his pocket and throws it to the dogs for them to fetch it. They run after it but only one of them catches it first and gives it back to Jong Hyun. Freya has a thick rope with her and gives it to the other two dogs. They start to pull the two ends of it and they growl fiercely. It’s obvious they are just playing but for any stranger it might look dangerous. The park is abandoned and quiet, Jong Hyun was right about the time and weather being unsuitable for most people to go outside. Freya truly can breathe free now.  

Suddenly they hear high pitched barking and a cute little white dog wearing a coat runs towards the Rottweilers. They notice it and stop playing with the toys and run to the little dog barking deeply and fiercely. Freya senses trouble because her dogs look terrifying and the owner of the little dog might get a wrong impression.  

“Shimkung!” Freya and Jong Hyun hear a male voice.  

“Kratos, Zelos, Hades! Stop!” Freya calls with a strong authoritative voice and the Rottweilers stop on the spot. “Sit!” Freya orders and the dogs obey.  

The little white dog arrives and barks at the Rottweilers and jumps with excitement.  

Freya comes closer. “Look at you! Where is your owner, little one?” Freya takes off one of her gloves, bends down and lets the little dog sniff her hand. It licks her fingers and wigs its tail. “Come to me.” Freya picks the dog up into her arms.  

“Shimkung! Where are you? Come to daddy! Shimkung!”  

“We are here!” Jong Hyun calls and they can see a man running to them. The Rottweilers get alerted and stand up ready to protect their mistress.  

“Oh thank God! Shimkung!” The man approaches Freya, his eyes fixed to the dog in her arms. The Rottweilers growl to warn him and he stops looking at them concerned. “Dear, dear!”  

“Don’t worry, they don’t bite.” Jong Hyun puts the Rottweilers on leashes. “Well, technically they do bite, they are guard dogs but they only act on special command, so you are safe.” Jong Hyun ads with a smirk. “Come here, boys.” He pulls the dogs to the side. “Hey! I know you!” Jong Hyun calls as he recognises the man. “You’re Park Jung Soo!”  

The man smiles kindly and a dimple appears on his cheek. “That’s correct. Nice to meet you.” He shakes hands with Jong Hyun.  

“I’m Hong Jong Hyun and this is Dr. Freya Arran.”  

Jung Soo bows to Freya and she gives him his dog. “How do you do, sir?”  

“Thank you for finding my little girl.” Jung Soo cuddles his dog lovingly.  

“It’s nothing, really.” She turns to Jong Hyun. “We should go back.”  

“True, Hak Yeon will kill me if you catch a cold.” Smiles Jong Hyun.  

“Cha Hak Yeon?” Asks Jung Soo. “VIXX leader?”  

“Yes, he’s my brother-in-law. It was a pleasure to meet you, Park Jung Soo. Have a nice evening.” Freya hooks her arm into Jong Hyun’s again and they walk slowly back towards home.  

“Goodnight, miss Arran!” Jung Soo calls.  

“You have no idea who he is, right?” Giggles Jong Hyun as they are out of Jung Soo’s sight.  

“Should I know him?”  

“Park Jung Soo, or Leeteuk by his stage name, is a Super Junior leader. He’s a living legend in kpop.” Explains Jong Hyun.  

“Good for him. But I don’t know what you expect from me.”  

“I was just saying, nothing more. He seemed enchanted by you, by the way.”  

Freya frowns at Jong Hyun. “Nonsense. Why do you always make such wild stories up?”  

“I’m not making it up. Didn’t you notice how he stared at you?”

“That’s ridiculous. I wish you would stop saying such things, it’s very inappropriate.”

“You start talking like a Downton Abbey character again.” Moans Jong Hyun.

First off I should mention Julius technically isn't my own Oc, just a character I helped develop for a friend of mine. But I consider him my beloved son all the same <333

So first off he uses he/they, and at the time of creation he is approx 17 going on 18. Hes around 5'10, a bag of bones, with messy dark brown hair and eyes and he wears glasses bc i say so. he's a student at the local school and a huge fucking nerd and lives with his deathly ill psychic mother who, as you can guess, does psychic readings and fortune tellings for a living. They're dirt poor as you can imagine and he spends most of his time studying or taking care of his mother. He begins studying magic and quickly excels in it and at 18 is drafted into the war for his proficiency in magical combat. OH THE THINGS I HAD IN STORE FOR HIM FJSJDJ

Victoria, she/her, who inspired dorian's creation is the daughter of a wealthy chocolatier slash businessman who caters to aristocratic society. She's 16, around 5'2 with blonde hair that's really just a wig over her natural black, and blue eyes. She usually spends her time reading novels and fairytales and has a love for mildly frightening or unsettling literature that her parents disapprove of. She also loves to design covers for said books but all this she does in the privacy of her own room unbeknownst to everyone except Dorian. She also loves pastries and gowns and making sure things are just right and taking care of those around her. Her cousin married the Duke of the royal family and at 18 she's being pressured to marry into wealth as well.

Best known for his heading of a group of architects who designed the UN headquarters in New York (among them Oscar Niemeyer and Le Corbusier) Wallace K. Harrison (1895-1981) together with his associate Max Abramovitz formed one of the most successful US postwar architecture firms and even made it to the cover of the Time magazine in 1952. 

Still the most comprehensive account of Harrison’s work is Victoria Newhouse’s monograph “Wallace K. Harrison - Architect”, published in 1989 by Rizzoli. The book draws on extensive interviews with associates, clients and contemporaries and chronologically connects these with his major projects. These projects include his numerous designs for the Rockefellers but also smaller yet probably even more interesting ones: the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford, a prismatic wonder of glass and steel, or his Long Island home demonstrate Harrison’s creativity and continued sense of architectural quality. Operating from and in New York Harrison and Abramovitz almost inescapably contributed a great deal to the shaping of postwar New York, a balancing act for the architects that Victoria Newhouse also grants considerable space in the book. At the same time the author also raises critical questions surrounding authorship in a big architecture firm but also with regards to certain projects in which it seems that Harrison more or less implemented the ideas of his client Nelson Rockefeller, an architect at heart. Generally it is quite remarkable that Harrison in his later career realized mediocre and very much compromised designs that raise the question of why he did this and what it says about his integrity as an architect.

Newhouse’s book is text-heavy and surely not your average glossy monograph but one that discusses interesting questions and by virtue of its quote-laden narrative is far from a dry academic treatise. A great read!

I don’t know much about that industry but I don’t understand sn**k’s attachment to Rabbit. Like why she was in it

Why was she in Run Rabbit Run? I think plenty of reasons.

I think when she and her agent were pitched the project, it probably felt like a really exciting film.

It's the debut screenplay of a really 'hot' Australian author, Hannah Kent, who wrote the enormously internationally successful Burial Rites, as well as The Good People and Devotion (which are all dense historical fiction novels, which is a part of why I was suspicious of such a vast genre switch for screen which was basically confirmed for me when Kent said she doesn't watch horror) and the second feature of a really 'hot' Australian woman director, Daina Reid, who's worked extensively on really 'good' genre TV - The Handmaid's Tale, The Shining Girls, Romper Stomper, The Spanish Princess, Offspring.

That is, on paper, a really exciting creative team! I can see why her agent would recommend it and why she'd think it was going to be something that's more than what it is as a film.

I also think it probably had both personal and strategic benefits for her since she's moved back to Australia. The first one's pretty easy to see, I think - she's from Adelaide originally, Run Rabbit Run was shot in Adelaide / South Australia. Shooting a movie there means she gets to stay for a longer period of time and spend time with the friends and family she has there.

A lot of actors take jobs in their hometowns for that reason - a sort of working homecoming, as well as a way to support the industry you originally came from. A friend of mine who's a theatre director has actually just accepted a job directing a play back in her hometown pretty much for that reason exactly. It's a level below what she'd normally do, but she's really looking forward to spending a lot of time with her Dad around the play as he had a health scare not too long ago and this gives her the opportunity to spend three months there.

The strategic benefit is speculative, of course, and a bit more specific to the Australian industry, so bear with me as I try to explain it, haha.

Each state here has their own screen agency, and these screen agencies play an enormous role in funding and supporting local production, while also attracting overseas production with specific local advantages. Queensland for instance, my home state, sells itself on its beaches, Warner Brothers' large studio, and the fact they have some of the biggest water tanks for shooting underwater sequences in the Southern Hemisphere. It's why things like Aquaman, Pirates of the Carribbean and every mermaid show you've ever heard of are shot there.

Because they are state funded though, these films and tv shows have state talent quotas attached to them. In other words, they have to have a certain amount of both Above the Line Talent (these are producers, directors, writers and principal actors), and Below the Line Talent (all crew, extras, stunties, craft services, etc.) that are considered as being 'from' that state.

These quotas are designed so that interstate and international productions can't just ship in crews or whole casts from interstate or overseas, and effectively makes them invest in local talent.

But what local talent means can vary a little.

Using myself as an example, I'm from Brisbane, so I automatically qualify as local talent for Screen Queensland, but I live in Melbourne, which doesn't actually mean I automatically qualify as local talent for VicScreen. To qualify, I had to live in the state of Victoria consistently for two years, and be able to supply evidence of that, which I can, and is why I am now on the talent registers both in Queensland and Victoria.

For Sarah, she's from South Australia, but she also lives in Melbourne, which means she's considered basically a talent asset for both the South Australia Film Corporation (which funded Run Rabbit Run), and VicScreen (which interestingly enough actually was involved in developing Run Rabbit Run). Her last Australian productions were Winchester (2018), The Beautiful Lie (2015), Oddball (2015), The Dressmaker (2015) and The Secret River (2015), all of which are VicScreen, meaning they were all filmed in Melbourne / Victoria (which makes sense! Melbourne has a much bigger industry than Adelaide).

With her moving back to Australia, and moving back with the status that means she's always going to be a principal actor, I think it makes sense that she'd want to strategically show that she can qualify as Above the Line Talent in both Melbourne and Adelaide. It shows her off a bit as supporting her home state's industry / remembering her roots, but also makes her appear as available / accessible for filmmakers there and the state's funding body.

Given she's heading to London's West End again for theatre too, I think it probably was a pretty smart strategic move to sort of stake such a local claim like that before she goes international again too.
