Okay but a DND campaign with the final Big Bad being the city itself??? I need it...

Facing off villains that have been corrupted by the cities necrotic energy. Facing enemies that avidly support the drained/apathetic state of citizens as it lets them get away with anything.

Not knowing how or why your life force is being siphoned off the entire time. Until finally you know it isn't these people, the animals, or a cursed item, it's the city itself. Sentient and all around you.

The pavement under your foot, the rain running down drains, the rattling windows and flickering lamp lights. It's all watching and it's ALWAYS watching. Hungry and waiting. You'll always come home to your empty city.

Are you safe in a grassy field if you're not standing on concrete? Is the city sentient? Can it hear you speak? Was it rotten first or did the people living here cause the corruption? How do you fight a city? How do you destroy a concept given unlife?

What does it do with the energy being drained? Is that what's keeping it alive? Does it need it for a specific purpose?

What is the heart of the city? Is it the people? A place? The first tree planted?

Do you love your city despite the pain it causes?

we should talk more about cities that are vampires. cities that are cold and wet and sink into your bones and stay there. cities that are hungry and want to live. dead cities that dont know they're dead and suck the life force of their people to maintain the delusion. cities with harbors that are actually mouths; one-way entries. cities that are devastatingly lonely and see consumption as love
