i've seen a couple comments on reddit from people who say they tried romancing solas to see what the fuss was about but just found it "demeaning" and honestly tbh the only way you could have that read is if you just can't get past your preconceived notion that he is just arrogant and condescending and has no other personality traits. that lavellan must "demean" herself to be with him and constantly put up with his ego when that's not really how it goes at all lol.

for me, the primary motivation for solavellan is that lavellan sees someone sad and lonely and yet wise and kind and decides to reach out a hand to him. and he's so surprised by it he can't stop marveling at her. "you change everything" "you have shown a wisdom i have not seen since..." "you have become important to me, more important than i could have imagined" "you deserve more than what [the vallaslin] represent" "in all thedas i never expected to find someone who could draw my attention from the fade"

even without the stuff from dav to tell us how much solas wishes he could have just chosen lavellan over all the rest of his self-imposed obligations, it's very clear how much he treasures her and yeah i don't find that very demeaning at all lmao.

Astarion

Pros: My poor little meow meow. I like the idea of this snob who likes evil things falling in love with my character who is always a goody two shoes but also a complete gremlin who uses barbarian options constantly because they're amazing. my ego hurts from the rejection.

Cons: Shilo herself probably wouldn't be into him, I'd have to reload a few saves back to undo my original choice, I have to get his approval up and that will probably be annoying, I may have to go back even further to long rest without the scene asking me to choose one (I'm sure there are other times to rechoose or choose but I kinda want it as soon as I could ig)

Karlach

Pros: Shilo and her have so much in common without me even intending it. Both barbarians, both very emotional, both enthusiastic about fighting but want to help innocents, but still have pretty big tempers. Already flirted with her. Don't need to reload anything. Would be more in character.

Cons: I'm not as into her tho I think she's really cute. I really like Astarion. i kinda wanted to see the dicks in the game.

misc: I have another character concept who would probably fit Astarion more so maybe I can just have him next playthrough, but I would want to at least finish act 1 before doing it over since everything feels recent.

hhhhh wat do. it would be so funny if it were astarion.

i have a theory that a lot of people say acting is "good" when they're emotionally moved by it, and a lot of cishet white people have a lifelong habit of not listening or empathising when minoritised people speak, so minority actors get called "bad" even when they display some pretty fucking amazing technical skill
