Commentary on Ai and Kamiki's character

I just can't shut up about them, can I? Since the new chapter will be dropping in just a few days from now (and I personally think there will be more reveals) this is probably going to be my last chance to discuss about them before things get clarified and set in stone once and for all (since we NEED to learn about just what HAS been going on about Ai's bf and his motives!! It's going to be shown to us in this final arc, right)

Here's how I feel about Ai/Kamiki as a character so far from all the things I've seen about them. Let's see how much of it will stand by the end of this manga(and/or the upcoming chapters)

I think they're well-written/would be well-written. I like how Ai's written for one thing, and Kamiki's past made a lot of sense to me, I think it can add on to something really interesting. I thought I got where it's going to get at.. that's why I've been drawing them so much since the latest chapter... hope I will be able to retain this interest and passion because having something to be excited and inspired about is a wonderful thing!

I'm writing a lot, like light writing (when I focus on something, I think about it a lot), and it might decrease or, depending on the situation, increase when the next episode comes out. There's nothing revealed yet, so I end up thinking a lot.

I think Ai is really a strong person. To survive in the entertainment industry, there must be so many things to think about. When I see that character, I think about those things. Although she has a soft side, she fundamentally seems like a character who lives really hard. Thinking about it, she was young herself, yet she protected her boyfriend and helped him escape from his abuser. She endured quite firmly under tremendous stress.

She's the type to bear everything alone... There are many things she endures, and in that situation, she worked hard to reach the top, and she wanted to be a good mother to her children. The most heartbreaking thing for me in this character's dialogue was when she said in her dying breath, "I wasn't a very good mother, but I still think it was good that I gave birth." That was so sad to me. I thought that was the saddest part. She had many thoughts. I noticed she thought she had to earn a lot to provide good education and conditions for her children. Middle school kids aren't necessarily shallow in thought, and while there's a range between people, I felt they were still serious and mature considering their age.

For a character like her, if she were in front of me, I would want to say that she's amazing and went through a lot of hardship. Before pointing out what she did wrong or lacked, I'd like to acknowledge that she lived with a lot of effort and loved those around her. Ai's efforts were not just for herself, but she had a rather humble character, and it seemed her motivation to strive was significantly for the happiness of those around her. Like when she wasn't sure if a dome concert was such a big deal but then thought it must be good since it was the president couple's dream, and she smiled along with them. For this character, what's important is resolving the curiosity about the lack in her heart, and achievements as an idol seemed secondary. That's why her saying she wanted to live with Kamiki and raise children together struck me, because for Ai, being an idol felt more like a means than an end. That doesn't mean she didn't try hard; she seemed like a responsible person who strives to meet expectations in her work.

Ai is a character who, through hard work, perseverance, and talent, eventually gets what she wants. Ai has a great curiosity and desire for areas she doesn't know well. She knows what she doesn't know but has the tenacity to not give up until the end. I think that's a strong aspect of her.

As for Kamiki, since it's unclear what his plans are at the current point in time (although I have a guess), if I were to describe the impression of him until just before he separated from Ai,

He's simply pitiful. He self-deprecatingly said that his relationship with Ai was one where he was unilaterally dependent on her. While he might have depended on her a lot, it seems Kamiki had to endure alone until the point they met. He grew up in such a broken situation that I don't even want to deeply think about what it must have been like... From what we see, it seems he wasn't just harmed by one person. Ai had President Ichigo at least worrying about her, and people to take care of her children when they were born, but Kamiki didn't seem to have a proper guardian at all. His exceptional looks might have made his situation even worse. He was just left alone in the world, and it wasn't just being alone, he had to endure all the malice and exploitation by himself.

You know how some adults appear in the movie arc, like Kaburagi and Kindaichi? This shows that the adults failed to protect the kids. The adults might have been busy with their own lives, but I don't think they can be entirely absolved of responsibility for the kids being in such situations.

Anyway, in that situation, Ai appeared to Kamiki, and I think Kamiki couldn't help but love Ai, who understood, accepted, and loved him more than anyone else. Ai also saved him. The fact that he sought help from someone only a year older than himself shows how vulnerable he was. It's just so heartbreaking. He must have liked Ai a lot... Fortunately, they connected emotionally, and Ai also liked him and wanted to help him. But Ai was powerless. Until just before she had her children, I think Ai tried her best in her own way. When Kamiki came to her, completely broken and crying, she took him in because she wanted to help him somehow.

But it’s sad that Ai couldn't even rely on her boyfriend... This really needs to be shown from Ai’s perspective too. She became Kamiki's emotional support, but it seems Kamiki couldn't do the same for her. However, I think Ai’s defensive nature also played a part... She absolutely didn't want to show weakness. She was a perfectionist. The others also played a part in this, as shown in the song IDOL. she was pressured by those around her to not forgive herself for not being perfect, so she couldn't let herself crumble or break down.

Still, Ai must have really liked her boyfriend. From the content of the video, it seems she was more worried about him getting better rather than feeling it was hard to help him. If she left a request to her children because she couldn't do it alone, that means she truly loved him. Asking her children for a personal favor about her boyfriend (even though he is biologically their father) shows that she was deeply concerned. (There’s a reason she left the request to her grown children; asking when they were young wouldn't have been fair, and adults are supposed to help children, not the other way around. For Ai, anything related to Kamiki was a lingering concern.)

I've drawn this couple a lot recently, not only because of Fatal being.. really obvious to me?? that it should be Kamiki's feelings and that it clicked and let EVERYTHING make sense but also because it’s confirmed that Ai loved Kamiki a lot too. Considering this, I think the storyline is not fully revealed yet. Kamiki is someone Ai desperately wanted to help, borrowing the strength of the protagonists, even. This is revealed not at the beginning but at the very end, indicating his significance. That must mean there are some things that we'll be able to find redeemable about him. Or at least, he must be a character who evokes a lot of sympathy.

Looking at this narrative, if Kamiki is willing to do anything for Ai, it makes a lot of sense. I was holding off on judging the depth of Ai's feelings until that video scene (you see how careful I'm about it in the analysis I've made about Ai), but it’s been clear that he was truly happy with her on his end. When I saw the lyrics for Fatal, I immediately knew it was from his perspective... it’s clear he has deep feelings about her. The emotions in the song matched, so I looked into the song's content, and it was quite unsettling, giving me the strong impression that he took a wrong path. His character was exactly as I thought, so I wasn’t surprised. He suits well with Ai. Isn't the younger version of him, really soft?? Ai isn’t the type to be dragged around. If she had a boyfriend who's younger than she was, she would have acted like a big sister. If he had been older, it might have had a different sort of dynamic, but at their first meeting, he was even smaller than Ai, so instead of her being swayed, I figured he'd have been the one drawn to her. Seeing Ai hide who the father of her children was, yet genuinely loving them purely, suggests that she wanted to protect him. Their relationship must have been good. The calls felt like Ai had the upper hand. However, you can't predict when someone will snap, so until his appearance, it was all speculation. But everything turned out as expected, along with the emotions they had regarding each other.

I don't know the current state of this character, but it feels like something significant has happened. Because of that, there's been a drastic change about him, but it's clear that this character really loves Ai. I keep mentioning it, but from the character's perspective, it couldn't have been any other way. So, I thought, "Wow... the writing was well done." The key point is how far Kamiki can go with such deep feelings and how it might become distorted, deviate, or turn into a mix of love and hate, depending on how it's handled.

At least, as the lyrics suggest, he loves her to the extent that he would do anything he can. I believe that has been made clear, so I think the development will inevitably go that way.

His past is just so miserable that I want to hug him and tell him he suffered a lot. Both him and Ai. And I want to arrange for them to be protected by adults who can give them lots of love and care in a clean, good environment. It’s no wonder Kamiki felt like there was no one in the world but him and Ai, which is such a sad situation... But there must be lonely kids like them out there. I hope those kids can receive the love they deserve.

I was actually a bit interested in the area of social welfare. However, it’s a very tough path, so I didn't dive so deep into it... While reading the manga, my thoughts wandered in that direction because the characters were in such vulnerable states. This sort of situation isn't 100% fiction.

I once did volunteer work in education, and honestly, the kids who have gone through tough times are much more mature and resilient than I am... They know things I don’t, and I believe that. But they are still young. It’s not about underestimating or dismissing them; at that age, they shouldn't be experiencing such things... It's an age when they should be receiving love.

In my opinion, the likelihood of major character inconsistencies or setting errors with the protagonist’s parents is quite low. The scenes they get are significant but short, so the characters are likely to come out as initially planned. And honestly, how cunning or wicked can two middle school kids be? This isn’t pure fantasy; the manga heavily borrows from reality. So, I liked how their past was revealed in this manner. The key is how things will unfold next, and it’s hard to predict completely.

When I first heard the song IDOL, I immediately thought, "Oh, this character is really struggling." (I mention this a lot but) I can't claim to understand everything since I haven't led such a turbulent life, but I still felt sorry for them. If I were in that character's position, I don't know if I could have lived as earnestly... However, when considering why the character made such choices, I can sense that it seems to come from their own efforts and concerns. Many situations arose consecutively, and I think Ai, as a character, tried her best within them.

And Kamiki is really something else. When he was breaking up with Ai, I didn’t mention much about what he heard, but Ai is really sharp. Even if she didn’t know what the consequences would be later, she said exactly what she needed to achieve her desired result (Kamiki leaving her). It wasn’t cursing, but the words were very cruel. I predicted that he wouldn’t be able to hold onto Ai when they broke up, even before the episode was revealed... LOL. But he ended up hearing such devastating words that he couldn't say anything back and was just left dumbfounded. Those words must have really hurt. I even felt emotionally wounded along with him! Ai is truly remarkable... When you watch the video, you can see that she really loved him, but to be able to say such things to someone she cared about... I don’t think I could do that because it would break my heart. As I mentioned when analyzing Ai, she just did what she thought was the best. She didn’t like herself very much, so it was more important to protect him from the burden of being with her than worrying about him hating her.

Kamiki, on the other hand, talked about those words to his son, saying, "Ai left me because she found out what I did, and it was natural and unavoidable." He has no anger. His self-esteem is very low, and he feels very sad. Although he mentioned that Ai had selfish and cruel sides, the first thing he feels is self-loathing... He believes it was natural to be abandoned, and he thinks he has never been loved by anyone. There’s a scene where he is walking hand-in-hand with Ai, looking so happy, and it’s described as if just being with her made him feel like he could overcome anything. But he accepts that she thought of him that way, which is so pitiful, isn’t it?

Would a character in such a state try to harm Ai? I don’t think so. If he were going to be angry, it would have been then. But I think both Ai and Kamiki knew that he wouldn’t retaliate even after hearing such words. This shows their personalities very well. When Ai said they should break up, he's able to suggest that they get married, this character... has no pride when it comes to Ai... It’s pitiful. He must have been like that in the payphone call too. It’s obvious that he wanted to meet again, saying he “clung on.” People say clinging isn’t attractive, but it seems he did so timidly. He probably couldn’t even speak firmly, and when Ai said no, he was likely left speechless again.

What happened to make him like how he is now? (But if you look at his lines, it doesn’t seem like he changed that much. He still says, "Because of me, because of me," in front of that dying actor. He blames himself for what's happened, and I wonder how it happened) I think this character needs to see a psychiatrist. He seems extremely depressed. It’s not a fair comparison, but his self-destructive behavior feels even worse than Aqua’s, and it’s understandable... Aqua still has people who love him, but this person!! He really has no one!!

Seeing the video of Ai and being so shocked... yeah, it's totally a natural reaction for him. He really didn't realize that Ai loved him in the SLIGHTEST. But if we consider whether it was Kamiki's fault that he didn't know, I don't think it was. Aqua showed the video as part of his revenge, but although Kamiki's heart must have been torn and he felt like dying... did he really do something deserving of revenge? I say that’s actually questionable. If he had killed Ai, then "revenge" would make sense, but it seems like he contributed less to her death than what he even told Aqua. Now that he knows he was loved all along, it will be interesting to see what kind of reaction comes out. Sigh.. so they had mutual feelings towards each other, so it's good, right? Their lives have been so unfortunate. Depending on what Kamiki did in the middle, it might determine whether he deserves such harsh words, but for now, that's my impression.

These two characters seem to be well-written (from a constructed perspective). Ai is really well-written, and Kamiki seems that way too. The chance for them to be happy together disappeared with Ai's death... who knows what will happen next...

Songs like "Mephisto" or "Fatal" really seem fitting. That's why I think those songs are related to Kamiki... the lyrics are so intriguing, so there must be something there.

What a wonderful episode, it still feels like an out of body experience and I'm so happy Buck is finally free (I'm still in disbelief they gave us bi Buck in such a beautiful way).

I really wonder how they will give us the Eddie coming out arc. ¿Do you have any theories at the moment? Also why does it feels like Marisol will be kicking rocks sooner than expected? 👀

Thank you so much!! I mean I always have so many thoughts going round and round in my head about this show at all times so at least this gives me a place to put em.

I was beyond happy with everything we got in this episode. 10/10 no notes. I'm getting the feeling next episode is gonna be similar but is also gonna have some plot twists as well. The possibility of a double date has me V~I~B~R~A~T~I~N~G especially if Eddie doesn't realize the entire time that BuckTommy are on a date. Eddie and his queer blinders runs so deep and I want to see the way his face changes when he realizes.

I loved how they handled Buck having this discovery and I'm beyond happy they're not going the "gay for you" route with Buck (and I hope not with Eddie either). I'm glad Buck can exist in the world as a bisexual man outside of his relationships, but also in conjunction with them. They're all a part of him and he deserves to finally be settled in that aspect of who he is.

I do get the feeling that Buck's gonna be so swept up in the euphoria of figuring out his sexuality that he's likely going to be attributing a lot of those feelings to Tommy where he actually isn't wholly the cause. Don't get me wrong, I do think Buck is genuinely interested and attracted to Tommy, and I'm excited to see where that goes, but we're already getting some hints about potential issues with their relationship and I'm very intrigued about where that will go.

My prediction for Buck is that he's going to dive headfirst into whatever he has with Tommy and start seeking out the feelings/connection he has with Eddie, but in Tommy. I think the date will have some hints at Buck and Tommy trying to connect in certain ways and Buck in the back of his head finding *something* missing.

As for Eddie....HOO boy. I think that he's gonna be in for an interesting time. There's a chance he might break up with Marisol in 7x05, or I was also seeing spec about breaking up in 7x07, etc. IDK ANYMORE!! As much as I PERSONALLY would like to see them break up next episode, I think it would also be interesting to extend that relationship out a bit more just to show Eddie's sexual struggles and have her as a foil.

I'll give you what I would LIKE to see instead of what I speculate might happen because at this point the information we do know is confusing.

I would like to see Eddie feeling visibly weird about Buck dating Tommy. The reasons for him feeling that way can be nebulous at the start. I want this to cause some issues with Marisol, but I want his primary issues with Marisol explored separately from BuckTommy as well.

I would love to see more of his incompatibility with Marisol explored, whether that's in terms of how they act on a date, how they talk to each other, maybe even sexually (?). I want Eddie to genuinely start questioning why once again he's not feeling anything in a relationship with a woman. Like Ana could've been a fluke, but now Marisol too? I want him to think about why he just forces these relationships into something full-blown when most people would be able to recognize they're not attracted/into someone after the first few dates and end it.

I would love to see him possibly being dissatisfied with sex (if they go the demi route) and being really confused about if it's the sex itself, or the woman he's having sex with. I want some definitive building blocks for Eddie being like "I don't understand why I don't feel attraction to her" leading to an eventual "I don't feel attraction to women" realization. I think that Eddie's queer realization arc deserves more nuance and time put into it and a slow unveiling. I think it can still overlap with BuckTommy, with his feelings regarding them confusing him even more.

Buck getting kissed once by a man, understanding and accepting his sexuality right away, and being excited about it makes sense for his character. Eddie on the other hand I think is gonna struggle with it a lot more. I would like to see those struggles highlighted. Bring in more of his family (parents, sisters, etc) and show him struggling with heteronormativity around them. Show Eddie struggling to act "normal" in his interaction with BuckTommy when they're around him as a pair.

I would love it if a surprise kiss in the heat of the moment came in somewhere. Whether Buck is/isn't with Tommy and Eddie is/isn't with Marisol, would provide different ramifications. But I don't want the kiss to immediately lead to them getting together. I want them to have to sit with it, and maybe Eddie can then deconstruct his feelings about men, his sexuality, and his feelings for Buck at the same time. I wouldn't mind this struggle continuing over the hiatus and into the season 8 opener, or having this be a season 8 storyline altogether.

Either way, I do firmly believe Eddie's queer arc is coming down the line, and what we're seeing now is going to be the foundation for him to work up to it. As we know, Eddie doesn't really have sudden realizations. He kind of lets things build and build until it explodes and he is forced to sit down and think about it.

Also I don't believe Tim Minear about his "spur of the moment idea to have them kiss". What a liar. They were filming the scene with Buck, Tommy, and Eddie at the helicopter hangar back in January. That was a whole 3 months ago. Oliver literally said it was his first day back on set. You can't tell me you filmed that without knowing how the episode was gonna end, Tim. What a lying liar who lies. I do believe him that bringing Tommy in to replace Lucy probably meant they could streamline the queer Buck storyline faster in the season, but I firmly believe he knew they were planning to get to it at some point. There's no way Tim could've gotten the green light for it from ABC that fast without major lengthy discussions, both with TPTB and the writer's room. People take a long fucking time to respond to emails, Tim. Get better at lying.

I think the thing about relationships between people who've experienced a lot of trauma is

idk. I think of it as concave and convex. There's a whole bunch of hand motions I do to explain it IRL.

but it's like. convex people's response to their experiences is to need a lot of positive support and reinforcement. often it's like, people who've been neglected or left without support so much that they've come to a place where they know they won't get what they need unless they push for it. they have lacked, and really need, someone to offer them comfort and reassurance and structure and support. their emotional and physical needs are often very dominant and very fragile. the thing they struggle with most is containing themselves.

concave people are most comfortable taking on responsibility for others. they don't really feel comfortable or able to prioritise themselves, and get most of their positive reinforcement from Feeling Useful. there may have been times where they've felt or been made to feel like a burden or like they're taking up too much space; they may be carrying a lot of guilt about having had a lot of support needs in the past. the thing that they struggle with most is making space for themselves.

and we're all different people in different relationships. we have definitely all at some time been both. being one way in one relationship is often a reaction to having been the other in other relationships.

buuuuut. my observation of my own life is that this way of thinking helps me categorise a lot of types of relationship issues:

| | : This is relationship equilibrium. Everyone is getting what they need. I don't think this relationship exists, because relationships are dynamic and stuff changes, but as an ideal baseline - you're close enough to support each other, but both retain your own space. neither of you are getting pushed into unhealthy patterns.

)( : this is going to be a very chaotic and exhausting relationship. Both of you feel simultaneously undersupported and like you're taking on all your partner's shit. However, if you are able to work through conflict, it can help you grow a lot - you're both pushing each other out of your space and into alignment, figuring out how to balance your needs with other people's. But it's a process that involves a lot of overwhelming pressure.

( ) : alienated and cold. both of you are trying to be there for the other one; neither of you know how to let someone be there for you, so you end up shutting each other out while also yearning desperately to get closer. like this one )(, it can be super helpful - you're both trying to pull each other closer, and over time you do. but it's a process that involves a lot of hard, uncomfortable work and stretching.

(( : This is, for my money, the Least Helpful Kind Of Relationship for healing. it's also the easiest to get into. concave people want to pull loved ones in towards them. convex people want to push out towards loved ones. they're two relationship approaches which dovetail exceptionally well. and once you're in it, there's no room to move towards | |, because the convex is filling up all the space the concave could move into, and the concave increasingly is the only thing supporting the convex, who's a long way out on a limb now. Relationships that start out ( | or |( are pushed towards this too - if they seriously reach for closeness, | starts bowing past the centre line, and ( has way further to go than is fair for them to have to do alone.

like I say, we're different people in different relationships. And in particular, what I often notice is that social groups (and it's most noticeable in polycules just bc there's more of a linear relationship chain than in friendships) sort of look like this

|(((((((((...

where one person being the concave of a (( relationship means they're bulging out into another relationship, pushing the other party in that relationship into a more convex shape in their other relationships, etc. (and vice versa - someone getting more concave in a relationship prompts their partner to follow in order to stay close)

anyway, in a lot of cases, this (( kind of mutually destructive codependence is a nasty trap we all set ourselves. where a )( or () will move more towards equilibrium over time, (( moves further from it. the concave has less and less space or confidence to self-advocate or to ask for support or space, and takes on more and more responsibility for the other's wellbeing; the convex becomes more and more reliant on the relationship, and feels less and less able to survive without that support. the change also tends to happen so gradually and incrementally that neither of them notices that they're way further out of balance. you get to a place where one person takes everything on and never talks about their feelings or allows any vulnerability, and the other has no control over their own life, doesn't know what's going on with their partner, and feels like a burden all the time. it reinforces and entrenches every maladaptive coping mechanism and shitty feeling about yourself.

What's required to make this fixable is that somebody's got to actually make things really immediately, critically uncomfortable all around.

if the convex person withdraws, that's going to be so painful and alienating for the concave, whose only model for seeking closeness is to ask people to come to them. someone pulling away - or not following when they try to pull them even further in - is a terrifying rejection that they may not have a model for how to solve. if they can ride that out, though, they've got space to learn how to go towards the other person, instead of trying to pull them closer.

if the concave person stops bending to the convex's pushing, then the convex will come very abruptly and unexpectedly up against a hard surface they were expecting to be soft. They're going to feel hurt, betrayed, pushed away, rejected - they might feel like it's a confirmation that they're awful/a burden/too much, which may drive them to seek more comfort and feel even worse if rejected. but if they can ride that out, they can learn to start moving away and giving the concave space to follow.

like I really do believe it is possible to have a good, healing relationship that starts out )). But it's hard, uncomfortable, gruelling work. It's super worth it but it's HARD. it's somewhat easier to make changes if you start out at )( or ( ) - it's still difficult and painful, but there, the path of least resistance is to get better, whereas if you're dovetailed together it's way, way easier to get worse.

doing that work isn't just good for one of you though. it's good for both of you. the less your Shit dovetails together, the more you're giving each other the space and impetus to change.

(you also don't like. get to choose this. you can't be on dating apps like 'seeking person who pulls people close rather than leaning into them for cold, lonely, but ultimately useful mutually unfulfilled relationship'. anyway these are emergent properties. we take different roles in different relationships at different times. I think I've found thinking of it this way at most useful in retrospect.)

🎩Lewis Hatterson: A second year from Heartslabyul and host of a gossip-based radio show on campus, NRTea☕. He's relatively laid back and doesn't like sticking to strict rules or schedules (ironic, considering his dorm placement). He often butts (and loses his own) heads with his housewarden because of this. Intro Post

♌Izem Usiku: A Savanaclaw 3rd year who is in charge of a band of "delinquents" called "The Black Sheep". He's a bit gruff, but ultimately caring. Despite the fact that his group is full of students who don't like their dorms or housewardens, Izem himself is highly respectful of his own. Intro post

🐁James Ratt: Pomefiore 2nd Year, heir to a financial conglomerate in the Shaftlands, very prideful and cares a lot about his image. He's Lewis's co-host on NRTea☕ and is certainly the much more strict and serious of the duo. He doesn't get along with too many people due to the perception that he is incredibly high maintenance. 🌙Casimir Chernenko: Diasomnia 1st Year, Chuunibyou with a one sided rivalry against Malleus. He speaks in (and often misuses as a result) very complicated and flowery language, so no one seems to know what he's saying half the time. Wants to become "The Most Evil Overlord". 🦜Rusul Sader: Scarabia 1st Year, a dancer and son of a merchant family with a penchant for mischief and pranks. He's got a habit of weighing the pros and cons of things before making commitments (unless it comes to what would simply be the most fun for him). Intro Post

How do you rationalize the violence of the characters on this show? Imo, it's easier when it's self defense or when they're just killing to feed, specially the latter since most are just extras and we don't get to know or be attached to those characters. But there are more complicated cases, including physical and psychological abuse and literally everybody has been the abused and the abuser at some point. Not to/with each other, but definitely other people. There is power imbalance in all of the dynamics. Some may forget that since they keep jumping through timelines where things are perfectly okay or they're closer to making amends and making up. And also because the actors are friends and have chemistry on screen (speaking about the whole cast, not any duo in particular). But technically all main characters have abused each other. Nobody is "safe". So, where to draw the line? Psychological abuse? Physical abuse? The severity of the action (like continuously torturing someone who can't respond or match your strength is definitely worse than one punch, for example)? The frequency of the action, like, as long as it happened once it's okay? When a character is still redeemable/forgivable giving the fact they are immortals, so, in theory, they have eternity to better themselves and see if they can make it work? Or should they all be narratively punished (end up alone, suffering, locked up, dead etc)? What are your thoughts? Btw, I'm genuinely asking. I've become obsessed with this show recently and I haven't been able to talk about it with a lot of people, but I have these questions in my mind. Personally, the more I think about it, the less I know, tbh. It's part of why I love the show and I'm asking, btw. I want to see if I reach some conclusion lol. P.S. I understand if you can't/don't want to answer and I'm sorry this got too long. And if you do answer, feel free to make it long as well if you want, even if you want to make comparisons, add interviews etc. I love reading people's takes hehe. Anywa, thanks!

I don't try to rationalize it tbh. I think that's a goal of the show and the original books as well. What are u supposed to do if u have to "endure" each other forever? What still holds meaning if ur all immortal, how do u have relationships, hobbies, not get bored? Especially when everyone is born from trauma and sometimes that trauma was yesterday and sometimes it was 1000 years ago or 5000 years ago from a society u don't understand at all. How do u bring together so many ppl like that and not erupt on each other?

Trauma and mental illness and whatever else is not always pretty. Violent reactions to things are common and, at least in a society where punitive justice is the norm, we get used to putting these things in these boxes. "u did this bad thing so now ur going to jail / hell." The eternal question of the VC books is where do vampires belong, anyway? Where do they go when they die and for what reasons? Anne Rice never gives a v clear answer on this and it's not just bcuz she wasn't a good writer, the point rly is to just ask the questions. We don't have these answers as humans now, we can't confirm or deny if there's an afterlife and whether these things we do matter for a "soul" or not. We create social rules for many reasons but even those are not actually built on the back of "justice" the way ppl are made to think they are.

I don't think these stories are asking u to find a true "good" or "bad" character or characters. I think we're just meant to watch their choices and reflect on them, reflect on our reactions to them. The fandom's desire for Louis to have done something to "deserve" the drop is all about racism and nothing else. They blame Claudia for "manipulating" Louis into killing Lestat bcuz a black girl is never allowed to be a victim either. She's not even a girl to them anyway, adultification of black girls is another angle they use all the time ("she doesn't look 14 to me!"). They'll say look what Louis did to goad Lestat into fighting him more but they'll never say look what Lestat did to hurt Claudia and push her to that point, as someone who was acting as her parent for most of their lives together. That's always "ooc Lestat." What's happening on screen is a rorschach test for us as the audience and as individuals.

Like I wrote, I don't believe in punitive justice, so I don't think long term these stories are going to focus on that much. The trial was a sham to begin with and Lestat was never "rly" dead or meant to be gone forever. They're going to hurt each other and isolate each other in different ways, but if the show wants to focus on any real character growth, it needs to focus on ways the characters can learn to understand each other instead of banishing / killing each other. Relationships take real work like this too. Anne Rice could never write any of this but I'm hoping the show does. Seeing Lestat have awareness of the pain he caused Louis and the reasons he did it fr was a step in the direction I was hoping the show would go. The big question *is* how does a relationship recover from that? For immortals? How will it make others feel too, particularly Armand, if Louis and Lestat get back together? Will Armand reflect on his own abuse too? They all have a lot in common and they all want to be loved. If that's brought out into the open and treated with kindness and understanding, then the desire to maim and kill each other will greatly diminish tbh. Everything these vampires do to each other originates from a place of personal pain, feeling unlovable. "love is a monster" is one of the taglines for a reason.

ᯓ★ DABI | TOUYA + SEN!

★ The moment Dabi met you, it's like every other day, something that isn’t new to him. In an alternate universe where Touya is a burnt-out music prodigy set to inherit the family business (which he doesn’t particularly take interest in because of how strained his relationship with his father is), he’s a college student in psychology when he met you.

★ Did not even notice you because he was blinded by all the pent-up frustrations he had with the expectations placed upon him as the first son of the Todoroki family, plus he wasn’t one to be drawn to people that much considering he also had his studies to focus on. He was balancing everything all at once, so he doesn’t notice the well-known lead vocalist on campus trying to talk to him.

★ That is, until he’s encouraged by his classmates to try and join the school band to pass the time. He didn’t see the point of trying, but he decides to stay and watch one of your performances during an event to see if it’d pique his interest. Man, he was pulled into a trance when he heard your voice and took note that the band was indeed lacking a bass player to tie it all together.

★ It’s a shame to let your talent go to waste, so he thought about it thoroughly. And finally, he finally approached you after one of your performances with his application sheet.

★ Touya finds himself not being able to say no to you. Your other bandmates could ask if he could start again from his succession, but he’ll just say he’s on a little break (maybe even pretend to be busy on his phone for a few minutes), but when you do ask the same thing from him, suddenly he’s already ready to begin from that exact part as many times as you want him to.

★ He’s chill whenever he’s not stressed with anything and would take most opportunities to tease you. “Oh, you want me to teach you how to play? You sure you’re up for it, hm? I mean, you could just say that you want to spend some one-on-one time with me.”

★ Practices with him include just Touya staring at you (he can’t focus on the music sheet). Whenever you have him as your sub vocalist, he's secretly happy that he can finally see your face when you’re singing (he's used to seeing your side or back most of the time since he’s playing the bass).

★ He confesses when he’s sure of his feelings. Touya doesn’t want to rush into things haphazardly, so it takes him a lot of time to even consider confessing. In your graduating year, he finally confesses on your last performance together. He’s so scared of rejection (and the fact that he might not see you as often anymore—so he’s just imagining getting rejected and losing contact with you) that his hands were slightly shaking.

★ Everyone isn't surprised anymore. You’re right, Sen, you and Touya are that couple that just screams, “Oh, definitely. They’re each other’s halves, if you ask me.” You complement and balance each other so well that it just works. Yes, there may be ups and downs on the relationship, especially since Touya hasn’t really pursued anyone but you (he’s new to everything that one does in a relationship), but he tries his best to ease arguments as soon as he cools down, remember your likes and dislikes, and put in a bit more effort than he already was doing.

★ The relationship includes him being just soft (he tries to hide it) whenever he watches you perform, whether it’s acting or singing; he’s your number one fan. Touya introduces you to Natsuo first, then his mom second, and his other siblings last. He never introduced you to his father because he just didn’t want to. Him sending you videos he sees of couples doing subtle yet romantic things together with the message that says, “us.” Him letting you use his phone for whatever reason you have, he doesn’t have anything to hide, and trusts you so you could literally just take his phone whenever he's not using it, and he’ll be ok with it. His love language of physical touch comes out whenever you two are out; he just holds the top of your head with his hand and thinks it’s the most appropriate thing to do so he doesn’t lose you in the crowd.

Other Parts: Part One, Part Two and Part Three.

You were at home when a hurricane in the form of your members hit you. "Y/n!" Soojin cried bursting into your room and you jumped, dropping the book you were trying to read. "Jesus what?" you asked and you saw Minnie, Yuqi and Soyeon follow her so knew this must be serious. "What happened?" you asked "is Shuhua okay? Where's Miyeon?". "They're fine but you have to see this" Soojin said and passed you her phone.

You watched V's video and were stunned. "Why would he do this?" you asked "he could've ruined his whole career by announcing this". "Because he loves you" Minnie said. "If what he said is true, then he won't care if he's fired" Yuqi said and you blinked "he said that before but I never believed him". "You know I've never been his fan" Soyeon said "but I guess this is the first step towards proof". You stared at the phone "when was this?". "30 minute ago" Soojin said "the internet has gone insane! Their account is trying to take down the recordings but more and more keep popping up. You're trending on Twitter and people can't believe it but more things about V are coming up. Photos are resurfacing and people are believing your story, they're criticising the people who blamed you and they're siding with you" Yuqi said. You paused "I never wanted people to side with me. I just wanted them to...". "Believe you?" Minnie asked "they do now, V's done that at least".

You shook your head "shit, shit...I have no idea what this means". "How do you feel?" Soojin asked and you shook your head "that I...I want to see him. I want to hear what's going to happen to him and I don't know yell at him? Thank him? I just want to talk to him". Soyeon nodded "we thought you might say that and that's what Miyeon and Shuhua are working on". "What, how?" you asked and you heard a honking outside. You looked out the window to see Shuhua in her dad's car which had blackout windows so nobody would be able to see you and Miyeon was holding up a full body suit which would hide all of you. "Let's get you to V" Soojin said.

The girls were like secret agents or something it was insane. Soojin took her car which was a typical flashy idol car and drove past The BTS house, you figured V would be there instead of at his apartment. Soojin's car flying by made lots of paparazzi follow her and thinned the crowd. Then Yuqi and Shuhua helped you climb the fence and slip into the backyard. V had showed you how to do this years ago and you were pleased they never moved. Once there you headed to the house and managed to get to the door as security caught you. You were arguing with them around the back when the garage door opened.

"Y/n?" Jimin asked hearing your voice but you only had one thing to say. "Where is he? What going to happen to him?" you asked. "We caught her sneaking around" the security guard said and Jimin nodded "it's okay she's a friend, thanks though Carl" and the man left you with a nod.

Jimin led you into the house and to the living room where some of the guys were waiting. "Y/n? Are you okay?" Jhope asked and you nodded "is V?". "We don't know" Jin said "they didn't let him come home. RM and Suga have gone to see if they can help him at all". You sighed and shook your head "why did he do that? Why would he be stupid! He could've ruined his career, all his fans might abandon him, he could've wrecked everything". "But Y/n he doesn't care about any of that" Jimin admitted "he just wants you and hoped this would show you that" and you blinked "he really does?". "Yes" Jungkook, Jin and Jhope said at once and you stared at them all "I...I..." you stuttered when there was a loud clicking noise and the front door opened.

Jhope immediately pushed you back to shield you in case anyone management-related entered but he stepped back when he saw who it was. V was looking down but he must've sensed something because he looked up and his eyes went to you straight away. "Y/n" he said and RM and Suga both jumped spotting you.

"Y/n why are you here?" V asked coming to you "there's so many people outside it's not safe for you". "No you don't get to lecture me about safety, I'll ask the questions and do the lecturing here" you said and V nodded "okay, What do you want to know?". You didn't even know where to start and had a million questions before but now, could only think of one. "Did you mean it?" you asked "when you said you loved me?". V nodded "I meant every word but especially that. I love you so much it hurts Y/n and I promise I will never hurt you like I did again" and that was all you needed to hear to close the distance and take back your man.

V closed his eyes as you kissed him and held onto you tightly. He'd dreamt of this moment for months now and it was finally happening. He pulled you closer even though he kept the kiss soft. It was more that he wanted proof this was real than to progress it any further. He could've stayed kissing you forever but he felt something wet on his cheek and opened his eyes to realise you were crying.

"Why did you do that?" you asked when you separated "you're going to be in so much trouble and you've angered all your fans for what?". V was expecting this and he knew the answer. "For you" he said "and that's why it's worth it. I'd do it all again for you Y/n, I don't care what they do to me as long as everyone knows I was the villain and you're the angel I'm crazy for". "I'm not an angel" you argued but V brushed away your tears "yes you are and I hate anyone treating you as any less. I won't have anyone badmouth you Y/n and if I lose everything but gain you then I don't give a shit. You're all that matters to me" he said and now you were both crying.

The guys gave you both some privacy and you cried more before finally feeling more settled. "So what have they said to you?" you asked "how much trouble are you in?". V shrugged "I'm suspended but as I said I don't care. I have enough money to spoil you for a lifetime and all that matters is you're with me". You blushed "you don't need to spoil me, I'm happy with you too" and V's heart soared. "You have no idea how happy that makes me" he said and you smiled "good" and wrapped your arms around him in a hug. V held you to him and let out one of the biggest exhales he ever had.

Once the guys stopped hearing crying they hoped things were okay and they knew it was safe to come back into the room when they heard laughing. "Hey how is everyone?" Jhope asked walking in first and V smiled brightly "brilliant actually" making the guys chuckle. "RM explained what's happening" Jungkook said and V nodded "I'm on hiatus but I don't care" he said looking at you "I have means to support myself so they can fire me if they want. I am sorry for doing this to you all though" he said leaning forwards "I blind sighted you and it's going to put us in the news in a bad light because of me. I'm sorry for that". "Are you kidding?" Suga asked "we don't give a shit about that?". "You don't?" V asked and Jimin laughed "of course not! We're proud of you" and all the guys agreed. "This is the most we've seen you smile in...well years" RM said and Jimin nodded "properly smile that is, not the fake one". V laughed "well I'm happy! Probably way happier than I should be right now" but Jin shook his head "I think all things considered it makes sense and we should celebrate!" and Jungkook pulled a bottle of champagne out from behind his back and popped the cork. You and V jumped before laughing and happily accepted the glasses passed to you.

It turned into a mini party with the guys all celebrating you two getting back together. By the sounds of it, they deserved it too from suffering on behalf of V. He hadn't been the best and they were quote "just happy the real V was back now". So everyone let their hair down and things just felt right. You found yourself going around the room catching up with all the guys and everything you'd missed in the years' absence. You didn't realise how much you missed them and had forgotten how much they'd all cared for you. It felt nice to be back with them but when V couldn't cope with you being away from him anymore he tugged you back to his side and said he'd come with you if you wanted to move but he was now your shadow. You didn't mind that and happily stayed with him.

After that, there was no question of you going home so when things started rounding down you headed upstairs with V and when you were alone the atmosphere changed. "I can't believe you're here" V whispered "I never thought I'd get this again, to have you here to have you in front of me" he sighed. You smiled "well you're wasting it all the way over there" and V smiled "you're right, I didn't spend years dreaming of this to let you stand in the corner. Let me make it up to you". He outstretched his hand with a beautiful sexy smile and you took it.

Everything felt like the first time again and in many ways it was. Your second kiss in 5 years was sweet and heartfelt but quickly became passionate and heightened. There were so many emotions wrapped up in this reunion and you could tell V felt that too. As things progressed you felt a little nervous like you had during your first time with V all those years ago and despite his ample experience with this, V was nervous too.

He touched you hesitantly at first as if scared you might disappear. He kept gazing at you and checking you wanted him. Finally after telling him for the 5th time V started to believe you and you picked up enthusiasm. V couldn't stop saying your name and whispering how much he loved you and how he just wanted to make you feel so amazing. It was a whirlwind of physical, mental and emotional pleasure and you were both exhausted afterwards. V repeated everything he'd said to you as you lay in his arms to make sure you knew he meant it and you could feel his sincerity with each word.

V knew you couldn't sleep if you weren't in pyjamas so before he could drop off he rolled out of bed and started rummaging in his drawers. You watched him amused, wondering what he was doing when he cried "found it!" and turned around to show you. "No way! You kept it all this time?". It was your favourite shirt of his which you always used to sleep in. V had it as a trainee and had long since outgrown it so it quickly became yours. "Of course" he said "I could never bring myself to get rid of it, it was my keepsake of you" and you smiled. "I have some shorts you can have too" he said pulling them out of his other drawer and you laughed "have not borrow?". "I meant what I said about spoiling you Y/n, anything of mine you want you can have". "That's really sweet" you nodded "but the only thing I want to have is you, how about you put the pyjamas down and I can show you?" you asked. V's eyes lit up and he quickly threw them on a chair before coming obediently back to you.

A while later you were both thoroughly exhausted, in pyjamas and wrapped up together ready to sleep...but V was unsure. "I don't want to go to sleep" V mumbled sleepily and you leaned back to look at him "why?". "Because this will just be a dream" he said "it's too perfect not to be, what if I wake up and you're gone?" he asked. You could tell from his tone he was genuinely scared of that and gently caressed his face "it's okay, I'm not going anywhere. I'm back V" and he looked at you before nodding. "Okay" and he bundled you close to him, holding onto you tightly. "But I'm still going to stay awake for a while". "You don't have to" you told him "I love you too, I'm not going anywhere" and V stiffened. "You do?" he asked and you nodded "I didn't stop" and V pressed himself even closer to you. "You're my everything" he whispered and you nodded "you're mine too and you know I'd never lie to you, right?" you asked pulling away so you could look V in the eyes. He nodded and you smiled and gently pressed a kiss to his lips. "Now come here" and you opened your arms. V settled into your arms and rested against your chest. "Go to sleep" you said gently stroking his arms "you're safe" you told him and V nodded listening to your voice as he was lulled into sleep. "I'm home" he replied sleepily before he gave into his dreams which were now a reality.

You woke up the next morning to find V wrapped around you, literally. You must've turned away from him in the night and V's response was to throw himself around you in an extreme spoon with both his arms and one of his legs wrapped around you. You chuckled slightly at how snuggly V had a hold of you and moved his arms enough for you to spin around and settle against his chest. You nuzzled it slightly before laying against it with a sigh. You dozed for a while and then heard a sharp noise followed by a swear which jolted you awake. You blinked your eyes open and saw V watching you "did I wake you?" he asked and you just smiled. "No" you lied and reached up to kiss him. V happily kissed you back and made a whine when you pulled back. "That was a really good night" you commented and V nodded "the best one I've had in years" and you smiled. V pulled you back into his embrace and rubbed your shoulders "thank you Y/n, for giving me another chance, things will be different this time". "I know" you said "thank you for fighting for me" and V nodded "always".

It had been a long separation so after you'd both woke up and realised you were in bed together you wasted no time getting re-acquainted. However not long after you were disturbed by a voice very quickly calling your name. "Y/n? It's Jimin, I'm not going to come in don't worry but your phone's been ringing all morning so it's here outside the door" Jimin said and then you heard him rushing away. You both chuckled at the panicked footsteps and V stood up and retrieved it for you. You did have tons of missed calls and you called Soyeon figuring your leader was the best one to call.

She picked up immediately. "Y/n about time!" she said and you laughed "sorry I didn't have my phone with me". "Why? Aren't you with V?". "Yeah but I wasn't exactly keeping track of my phone". Your friend made a noise of agreement as she got it "that makes sense, you always said V was amazing in bed" and you jumped slightly but V had already heard it and was grinning like a Cheshire cat. "That's what you used to say about me?" he whispered pulling you onto his lap and you pushed him away, you couldn't focus on the phone if he was touching you. "Yeah so what's up?" you asked more curtly than you meant but Soyeon just laughed. "The managers want to see you today and are asking when you'll be in". "They want to see me?" you asked a little worried and Soyeon nodded "yeah but don't worry you're of course not in trouble. You didn't do anything! I'm guessing it's just a little damage control, they'll probably want to know how to proceed and what V's planning on doing next". You could guess what V was planning to do next by the looks he was giving you and how his hands kept crawling closer to you. You waited a long time for this and frankly didn't want to go into work when you had V waiting for you so you decided not to. "Can you tell them I'm sick and will be in tomorrow. I have plans for how I want to spend the day and they do not involve talking to some middle-aged men about my relationship". Soyeon laughed "of course, you can't be off for long though or they'll get impatient". You nodded "tell them I'll be in tomorrow, I'm just stressed about what happened yesterday, they should get that". "Yeah totally, enjoy your sex day!" she said loudly and hung up.

The phone screen went black and V smiled "so I've got you to myself all day? For what did Soyeon call it?". "You know damn well what she said now would you like to tease me about it verbally or physically?". "Both" he replied and yanked you back onto his lap. This time he got no resistance.

You and V didn't emerge from his room until noon and all the members gave his doorway a wide berth knowing exactly what was going on. But you had to stop sometime and while V got some food you went to go shower. You returned feeling refreshed and happy. V took you downstairs where he'd cooked you breakfast and waited until you'd finished eating to get into business.

"So I called my lawyer while you were in the shower and he said your company can't force you to reveal anything about us. You can keep it all a secret if you want to. You don't have to say anything so don't feel forced to". You paused "I...you rang them to check?". V nodded "I want you to be protected in case your company tries any funny business, I can get one of them to come with you tomorrow if you want?". You shook your head "It's okay, I'm sure they just want to talk but thank you" you said coming to sit beside him. "I meant what I said Y/n, things are going to be different this time and I will be your biggest defender. Nobody is hurting you while I'm here". You smiled "well it goes both ways, I'll always fight for you too. I know things have been hard and they won't change overnight but I'll be here for you V. We can work together" and he stared at you before nodding. He'd forgotten what it was like to have someone he loved look at him like that. Not with worry or concern but with faith and confidence. You trusted him to turn things around and V loved you even more than he already did for that.

It shouldn't have come as a surprise but everyone knew you and V were back together. Every idol in the industry had seen that confession and rightly assumed after something so bold, you would give him a second chance. What was strange though was how it made people act towards you.

Overnight you became more powerful in their eyes. Your company suddenly got a lot of calls from people wanting G(I)-dle on their show and trying to book you for things. Then there were the other idols. At the first award show you went to, you could feel everyones' eyes on you and not in a bad way. "You'd think I won a gold medal at the Olympics or something, not got back together with my boyfriend" you commented to Yuqi who laughed. "The way they see it, you've jumped up the pecking order" Soyeon explained "they think V's made you more relevant". You smiled "well that's good...it tells me exactly the type of people to avoid" you said smiling at some girls waving to you whom you'd never spoken to before "it's a great way to weed out the snakes".

It occurred to you that this must've been kind of what it was like for V. To have people stare at him differently and suddenly clamour for his attention all those years ago when BTS got big. It didn't excuse what happened but you got a little more why it led V down a dark road. If that'd been you 5 years ago when you were just a kid, maybe you would've fallen for it too?

You didn't realise getting back with V would be so different to last time but quickly realised it was a pretty big deal because you were dating a completely different V. A week after you'd gotten back together V shared his schedule with you for the rest of this year when his hiatus ended, next year and even the one after that. He said he wanted to prioritise you and give you the first pick at any free time he had. There were huge chunks of time on his schedule pencilled out because V had tours or ceremonies or other big events planned even 2 years into the future. It was a little daunting at first seeing your life planned out but then you calmed yourself. It was just any other idol life and you shared your schedule too and got to planning.

You worked out you could both spend Christmas together, a whole week or so and then there were chunks in March, June and September where you'd be able to get away together the following year. Plus V had his 6-month hiatus and you'd agreed to move him to your apartment. He couldn't leave the house much because the media was all over him but you weren't as big news after a few months and had to leave for work. So V stayed at yours and only left when necessary at first. As things died down he got more freedom and could actually leave your apartment but he didn't hate it either way. He got to see you every day and he loved it.

V also low-key loved the domestic side it brought out in him. He really enjoyed cooking for you, preparing breakfast for you, making you lunches and serving dinner. It made him feel important and he meant his promise about spoiling you and food was a great way to do that. He bought a cookbook and everything and got all happy hearing you praise his cooking. He loved taking care of you so made sure the apartment was always clean, bought your flowers weekly, handled any errands or repairs you needed and felt like a house husband. He loved it and you noticed.

You got home from work one day to smell something amazing. "What is that smell?" you called and heard a laugh come from the kitchen. You followed it and found V smiling "surprise! I made Minnie's dish for you!". "Omg what?" you asked "but that's insane even I can't make it!". You adored Thai food and there was one dish in particular she made that took a ton of effort but was divine and that was what V had made for you. "How did you get the recipe and all the ingredients?" you asked. "I emailed Minnie for the recipe and the ingredients weren't too bad. Only took me 3 attempts". "You went to 3 different stores all to make me food?" you asked in awe and V smiled "yeah I thought you'd like it, do you?". "I love it!" you cried "you're amazing" before smiling "did you buy yourself an apron?" noticing what V was wearing. He nodded "yes all chiefs need one, do you like it?" he asked twirling. You smiled "yeah it looks great on you, thank you" you said kissing him softly and V smiled "wait until you see what's for dessert". You paused "I can't tell if you mean sex or actual food". V laughed "I meant food but I'm more than happy for dessert after dessert, now you go get changed, get in something comfy and I'll get everything dished up. I've got your favourite cold beverage chilling for you too". You shook your head "I feel like a husband from the 70s" and V laughed. "You know you don't have to do all this for me right?" you asked feeling bad having V spoil you so much but your boyfriend just shook his head. "I know but I want to and I love it" he said "and I quite like the idea of being your house husband" he smirked "just sitting at home waiting for you to come home to me after being a big successful power woman" he said getting more and more into this fantasy as he spoke. You laughed "I had no idea you were so attracted to power, are you after my money you gold digger?" you joked. V smiled "you don't have to pay me, I'm yours" and you smiled "no don't worry I can figure out ways to make it worth your while". V paused "do you need help freshening up?" and you smiled "yes please" and took his hand leading him into the bedroom.

Your new favourite thing was to wake up and hear V singing to himself in the kitchen as he made breakfast or to wake up in the night after a bad dream and have his mere presence make you calm. V made you happy and you knew you'd be able to get through the time apart for moments like this. And as V's hiatus drew to an end you both got ready for the change.

As the time for V to go back to work approached, you could tell he was nervous and hesitant to jump back in. He honestly didn't need to be an idol anymore. He had a lot of money and could easily get work as a model or host or anything really, especially with your pooling your incomes but you knew he loved being an idol and being on stage with his members. He just needed reminding of that, so you invited the guys all around to spend time with him.

V had seen the members fleetingly but not all at once since this had happened. He said he didn't want to distract them or bother them but you thought it more likely he was nervous. He worried they wouldn't forgive him for damaging their name or wouldn't need him, that they'd be better off without him. He didn't verbalise any of this though but you knew how he thought and could tell he was nervous to approach them. You tried encouraging him verbally but figured the best way to show him his friends loved him, was to have them tell him themselves.

V had done so much for you that when you got a few days of work you asked Jimin to take him out and do something nice together while you got the place ready. The guys came early, armed with food and drink and helped you set up in minutes. V wasn't expecting anything but when he walked through the door and saw his members holding "welcome back" banners it hit him. His members wanted him. He was a little tearful but it was happy tears and all the guys rushed to express how much they'd missed him and couldn't wait to have him back. When V found his way to you he almost cried again. "Thank you" he said softly and you smiled hugging him "you don't need to thank me, I wanted to show you how much your members love you and tell you it's okay. You've taken such good care of me these past few months and I trust you. It's okay for you to go back to work, it's not selfish to pursue what you love and I'll be here loving you every step of the way". "You're fucking amazing you know that?" V asked kissing you messily and you laughed as he pressed his lips anywhere he could. "Yes and so are you" you said giving him a slower more deliberate kiss. "Now come on, I didn't invite this many guys into my clean apartment to sit in the kitchen snogging you, let's go celebrate your return!".

After that V's worries didn't vanish but his biggest one, that the boys wouldn't want him was gone and that made the world of difference. You wanted V to have the perfect first day so made some plans. You weren't as skilled as V at the domestic crap and were quite proud of it but for V, you'd really tried. You woke up early to prepare V his favourite breakfast, even getting Minnie to bring you fresh ingredients and low-key help you make it because it was hard. Then you got all the stuff to make him a barista-level coffee and got some nice snacks and drinks for him while at work. You got all his clothes ready so he wouldn't have to worry and his favourite fluffy towel waiting by the shower. You did all this before V woke up and snook back into bed to surprise him. Minutes before his alarm went off you gently woke him up by wiggling into his arms and pressing a kiss to his cheek. "It's nearly time to get up" you whispered and V stirred before his arms tightened around you "and you knew I'd want a cuddle with you before huh?" he asked "you're the best girlfriend" he said moving you onto his chest fully and you smiled. You wanted so desperately to tease him about what you'd planned but managed not to and it was so worth it seeing V walk around the apartment and get more and more excited at the things you'd done for him. When you dropped him off for work he was in a great mood and you felt so proud to see him smiling so brightly.

"So I'll meet you here at 6 but if you want to go out with the guys or anything that's totally fine" you told him and V nodded "okay!" but you saw him hesitate. "Hey, you're going to be amazing" you told him "you were born to do this and finally you're back. I know you can do this and I love you so much". V smiled, he always smiled when you said you loved him and you'd purposefully not said it for a few days purely for this moment. V's shoulders relaxed and he took your hand "I love you too" and he leaned forward to kiss you. You made sure to make it a good one and when you pulled back stayed close to him "knock them dead" you said and he grinned.

In that moment you knew without a doubt both your futures were going to be bright and you were going to succeed together because nothing in the world could stop you.

I've got some questions about your cyberpunk reader sagau idea like—

What exactly does Reader's body mods allow? Like, how do they enhance the body? Why abilities do they grant to reader? What limitations are there and do they limit Reader's in ways an organic body wouldn't

Before and during the hunt for Reader, how do they maintain their artificial components? Do any of them break beyond repair forcing reader to leave them behind?

Also the Reader having body mods for conquest is a great explanation for why it takes so fucking long for them to bleed. They're too fucking invincible to bleed unless they get done in real hard.

What do people like Dainsleif or Dottore's think of reader and their body mods? I mean the body mods were compared to Khaenri'ah's machinery and Dottore is Dottore.

Is anyone against hunting down Reader? If so, for what reasons?

These are some good questions but I haven't thought all of them through, but so far:

1. When writing the first idea, I imagined the reader being a bit like militech version of Adam Smasher, with bits of my own V from cyberpunk 2077 mixed in i.e. 60-70% of the body being converted to metal with only the head and chest organ area mostly fleshy. So the reader would be durable AF, capable of shrugging off a couple of blows from the archons assuming they didn't use elemental powers, incredible strength and speed, increased jump height and other combat mods like mantis blades or rocket launchers.

2. As for limitations; cyberpsychosis would be the main problem because of just how many mods they have. From a more physical side — blending in is damn near impossible, and all that cyberware is heavy, so it's going to be a challenge not waking up half of teyvat when going for a walk and swimming would also be difficult/our of the question as you'd just sink to the bottom.

Also, the electro element would be quite dangerous, as any attack would act like an EMP blast which could short-circuit important life-preserving systems.

2.5. currently I'm also headcannoning that the combat cybermods require A Lot of energy, and if you don't have that, the body will forcefully shut down for like 72h to generate energy, regardless of where you are...

3. I haven't thought about mods breaking, but I think the reader might be able to MacGyver old Khaenri'ahn tech to replace broken/lost pieces, though it wouldn't be a perfect match — like wearing boots two sizes too small. Before the hunt the reader really wouldn't need to do that, as their tech is durable as all hell and would have only needed cleaning once in a while.

4. Dottore, as a scholar, would be incredibly intrigued. He didn't believe in the divine, though he acknowledged their existence, but the reader would be something else... Like the pinnacle of human evolution, the seamless blending of flesh and steel would entrance him past the point of obsession. He may have enough self-control not to try and disassemble the reader, but be prepared for days worth of ceaseless questions, and his experiments would only grow more gruesome and brutal if you do not put a stop to it.

As for Dainslief... He would be conflicted. The reader's body would remind him too much of the horrors Khaenri'ah and it's leader inflicted on others, and of the war machines still wreaking havoc across Teyvat. But the reader bearing similarities to said machines, which once protected his home, protected him, would also make him feel...comfort? Idk how to describe it, but it's like the feeling of knowing someone is looking out for you, even when you have lost everything.

5. As for who's against the hunt; Barbados comes to mind because he too is an impostor and would be a hypocrite if he felt otherwise, though he keeps such thoughts to himself.

Nahida because she is connected to Teyvat so deeply that it's feelings would mingle with her own, and she couldn't shake the wrongness she feels when near the Impostor.

Alhaitham too, but his is more logical deduction; why would a creator try to fit into the standards made by their creations? It's utterly foolish to base their belief off an imagined appearance when it is your actions they should see.

Also the harbingers and the Tsaritsa, but those I'd say are pretty obvious as they seek to destroy Celestia, and a betrayed creator seems like the perfect rallying call.

Elves vs Gnomes

So. The backstory thing. I just. It's cool lore but it leaves more questions than answers and just makes things SO CONFUSING. AS A DISCLAIMER: GO OFF BETTY, WE LOVE TO SEE HER BEING A BADASS. BETTY! HELL YEAH! WE HERE AT SAFYRESKY INDUSTRIES LOVE TO SEE BETTY THRIVING!

Now for the wank. From a LORE PERSPECTIVE. EURGH.

They drop that Mad Santa was a good Santa until he thought everyone was ungrateful and implemented coal and became buds with the gnomes, who apparently ran the coal mines. The gnomes get in his head and prey on his paranoia. Paranoia of WHAT. I've not done a second watch and I don't think I will because I don't actually want a lobotomy despite them being on my mind today a little too much tbh, so maybe i missed that bit, but like, come ON. We can do better in terms of giving antagonists a believable descent into villainy! GOD!

And the trap scene, that was so needlessly drawn out. They should have held him in the trap, Betty revealed her badass self, had Magnus taunt and THEN boom, Befana ALREADY THERE, and she nutcrackers his ass.

Also, calling it NOW. Not ONLY will Sandy un-nutcracker Cal, but she's deffs gonna re-nutcracker Magnus. I bet it'll be like a reversal spell or something lmao

BUT YEAH the lore for the elves around Mad Santa's reign is not quite hitting with me, I gotta say! I am not a fan of it and every time I see it (Betty and Noel aside bc they of course SHINE) it leaves me very :\. It just. Doesn't seem to hit? Or really work? It's just so convoluted to me and goes against everything they said NOT JUST in the movies but LAST SEASON AND ALSO IN INTERVIEWS ABOUT THE SERIES BEFORE TI CAME OUT! It's infuriating y'all. GOD. "A war we didn't see coming" wow, the gnomes and Pyros sure do have something in common, eh? 🤔🤔

Cal and Sandra

God, I love them. They're so funny. Cal is like destroying his room and Sandy is like BRO what the FUCK and HELPS HIM HUNT DOWN THE VEST WITH SANTA MAGIC!! USING HER BEFANA TRAINING! AND THEN HE HELPS HER MAKE UP WITH BEFANA! By lying, of course, so he can go be stupid and heroic and GET NUTCRACKER'D (they nutcrackered my boy ): BUT I LOVE THE WAY THEY SUPPORT EACH OTHER

And the almost hug that turned into punches, lol. That's so Toph coded. We love to see it!

We DON'T love to see Cal DOING THAT! THOUGH! I DID LOVE HIS SCENE WITH KRIS. I'm really hoping, given that he and Cal got duct tapped together and he knows Cal's been nutcrackered, that they give him more of a role, you know? Honestly, it'd be neat if they made Kris the next Santa! I think he'd fit the bill quite well! And then Cal could have his odd job montage and, you know, cross guard and sail on a cruise ship and such. I am VERY intrigued with this pairing, as an aside. Kris and Cal? There's potential. They're gonna fuck it up I'm sure, but we have some DANK POTENTIAL HERE

Sandra and Befana

I'M SO GLAD THEY CHATTED! I am still v much like Sandra did NOTHING wrong and Befana overacted, but I'm glad they talked. Interesting stuff about the magic taking a tole/consequences. Mad Santa really do be out here messing up the balance of things huh? And Mother Nature WON'T intervene. GOD. I know it's bc they probz couldn't get the rest of the ALIVE actors back but like. THEN WHY EVEN USE SOME OF THEM? YEESH. ANYWAY

I'm excited to see how Sandy and Befana manning home base goes! I'm glad they talked and hopefully they can un-lemon EB and just be general badasses around the Workshop, lol.

BUT YEAH. OVER ALL. ARGH. I AM ONCE AGAIN SEEING POTENTIAL, BUT KNOWING THAT IT WON'T BE REACHED IS ACTUALLY LIKE. DEVASTATING.

If I’m trying to dip my toes into writing jlud fics, is there anything you think should be highlighted in their dynamic, I’ve never written real people before, so I’m worried they may come off as OOC

i think having a history of writing rpf in general does help you portray real people a little better, but even if you've only written fic based on movies or tv, then you really just have to study and think about the way real people talk. none of it is carefully orchestrated or prewritten or flowery or anything like that. real people use lots of filler words and phrases like "uh", "ah", "um", "like", "yeah", "i mean", "you know", so on and so forth. they stutter. they fumble. j stutters a lot, usually because he talks very quickly and his mouth can't keep up with his brain and he short-circuits when he's placed into unfamiliar situations.

a lot of people make the mistake that lud is inherently domineering and suave and super alpha and he always knows what he's doing, which isn't true. he's able to fake confidence VERY well and he tries to make up a lot of his personality so he can mask his vulnerability and sell himself as a product to others, but he's easily broken through because he wants SO badly to be loved and praised and coddled. at the same time, he also has the capacity to be very cruel and snide and shitty on purpose and he doesn't really care about hurting people's feelings. all of these spawn from him being a miserable, unstable, spoiled manchild. he's very mean to jrma in between glorifying him, constantly diving between these two extremes depending on his mood and what his current perception of jrma is. he acts out and expects everyone to put up with it and doesn't care when people don't. j usually puts up with it no matter what because he hates himself and needs so badly to stay in lud's good graces. unless he sees lud being mean to somebody else. then he'll scold him for it.

they absolutely and thoroughly adore each other and they've been following each other's exploits closely for years. lud has been watching jrma ever since he was at asu and jrma has been watching lud from a similar timeframe. the first time j ever shouted him out and thanked him for raids was all the way back in 2018. they're VERY familiar with each other from a voyeuristic standpoint; j listens to the yard and watches a fuckton of his streams and lud regularly looks up and watches jrma clips along with a bunch of his streams too. they both look up to each other so much. lud looks up to j because he sees him as a mentor, an artist, and a father/teacher figure, and j looks up to lud because he also sees him as an artist and so fucking cool and slick and handsome and he's awed by and jealous of the success he's achieved at such a young age. they both want very, very badly to be liked by each other but their own mental blocks that they have put in place makes it so that they can't see how crazy the other one is about them. j because he can't stand himself, and lud because he's constantly playing 4d chess with everyone in his life.

j is VERY needy, physically and emotionally, when they interact with each other in real life. he doesn't feel the need to interact with others or make more friends. he wants lud to be around him and talk to him and hype him up. and once they do find each other again, they talk easily and comfortably for ages and ages because they have a ton in common. they both seem to ignore the strange obstacles that both of them tend to throw up around each other because it's so much easier to be the best of friends than it is to talk about their feelings at all. they don't admit things to each other. they don't talk about things deeper. they just exist in each other's vicinities and grab at each other and try to steal pieces for themselves.

all in all, watch their streams and see how their relationship has developed over time and listen well. some key streams to watch are the replacement stream, bro v bro, name your price, juiced, beerio kart, and risk, because they're all wildly different and they all uniquely showcase aspects of their relationship that you can pull from.

The Bangtan Gal Chapter 28- American Hustle Life Episode 8

Chapter Summary: Spending their last moments in LA, BTS and Jen finally hold their concert.

After being woken up by Tony and Nate, with Jennie already awake and on the couch, BTS drag themselves out of bed, to sit on the couch, still sleepy.

"BTS! Make the best of the best hip hop performance." They heard the projector announce.

"You got a hip hop performance comin' up." Nate mentioned.

"Your performance is in a really big theater, here in LA." Tony added. "You guys are in charge of doing pretty much everything. Just make sure it's a huge, big, dope show, man."

"Yeah, this show is your show."

"Ready for the show? Let's go!" Tony shouted as they all got ready.

'BTS! Being in a hip hop boot camp, you did various missions. Finally, today, you're going to show everything that you learned. You're going to show your LA fans yourselves how much you grew as an artist and what you learned while you were in hip hop boot camp. Pour out everything that you got! A concert that BTS themselves will prepare! Their LA first solo concert. I can look forward to it, right?'

After preparing, and making handouts to promote the concert, it was finally the day of their concert.

'The place where you guys are gonna perform is a place where the history and tradition lies. It's the stage where many famous worldwide artists stood on!'

After the rehearsals, Jen put on camo jeans with a black cropped hoodie, wearing a tank top under it.

"Yeah...I already know I'm gonna be sweating like crazy." She put her hair in a bun. "I'm excited~!"

As the venue filled up, they heard the loud cheers and chants of BTS. The eight members put their hands in the middle. "American Hustle Life." Rap Monster said. "Bangtan, Bangtan."

"Bang Bangtan!"

'Finally, their concert starts'

Arriving on stage, they performed Bulletproof first. It turned out to be a success, with the passionate, screaming fans, cheering them on, no matter what they did.

Badda bing badda boom

She put a finger over her ear, as she heard the crowd shout, "Jennie's here!"

I have no fear...so don't try to stop me

Hah!

Tellin' me your doubts...won't change my mind

You want me to party? I don't have time.

Putting the mic to the crowd, she heard them shout, "I've been busy workin'. I've been busy dancin'. I'm never prancin'. Just enhancing."

A bright grin was wide on her face as she nodded at their singing, she started to sing again,

I will preserve and you can't stop my flow

I'm in my own lane, I'm here to attain

I got people asking, Who's the girl?

The one with the curls, representing the girls

I'm the one with the swag and I don't mean to brag but I broke oppositions to get where I am

today!

After their first song, they happily greet the crowd. "What's up LA!" Rap Monster shouted

"Aye! How's everybody doin' today!?" Jen happily asked, earning screams in response.

"It's really an honor to be able to stand on this stage in front of this many people who came. Thank you." Suga thanked them.

"We met a lot of people. Who did we meet?" Rapmon turned to his members.

"Coolio!" V shouted.

"We also met Warren G," Jungkook mentioned with a smile.

"In celebration of Warren G's 20th anniversary of the day that he released regulate, we made our own version of regulate." Rap Monster explained. "We wrote the lyrics with our life stories and it was really fun."

Once performing their custom raps, Rap Monster mentioned that Jenny Kita helped them with their dancing as they performed their dance moves.

Before Jennie knew it, it was time for Team R&B to show off their talent as she stood with Jungkook, Suga and V. "For us, we met up with Iris Stevenson, to learn more about R&B."

"Yes, Iris Stevenson, who was the actual character from the movie, Sister Act 2, we learned the soulfulness from her," Suga replied as they pointed her out in the crowd.

Watching backstage, Jennie jammed out to their Oh Happy Day performance. "Ah, they're so good! Them high notes, though?" She beamed as the camera recorded her reaction.

Once it was her turn, she exhaled and headed up to the stage. Waving at the crowd as they cheered her on, she looked up to where Iris was smiling at her. Jen smiled back, making a heart with her hands, for her.

Hearing the piano play the opening notes, she started softly,

If I wrote a note to God...

I would speak what's in my soul

I'd ask for all the hate to be swept away

For love to overflow

Putting a hand over her heart, she continues,

As she continued to sing passionately and soulfully just as Iris directed her, the audience was moved and kept cheering her on.

Shouting, "I'd say" she received some whoops as she sang louder and stronger,

give us the strength to make it through

Help us find love 'cause love is overdue

And it looks like we haven't got a clue

Need some help from you

Grant us the faith to carry on

Give us hope when it seems all hope is gone

'Cause it seems like so much is going wrong

Taking the mic off the stand, she yelled out a high "Oh", earning loud screams.

And it looks like we haven't got a clue

Taking a deep breath, she successfully hits the high note 'If I wrote a note to God'

Meanwhile, Iris stood up and clapped for her, with a big smile on her face. Catching her breath, Jennie looked up and blew a kiss to Iris, with both of her hands.

After the concert was finished, their tutors all showed up backstage to greet them, congratulating them on their successful concert.

"Ah...so friggin emotional." Jennie had tears in her eyes as she fanned herself. "I had a blast, but this is just so emotional. Being here, right now."

"Jennie don't cry~!" She felt Jungkook's bare arms wrap around her from behind as he hugged her tightly.

"I'm trying, Kookie, I'm trying."

He let her go and gently wiped the remaining tears from her eyes.

"Jennie! Beautiful, absolutely beautiful." Iris brought her in for a big hug, kissing her cheek.

'Their last day for hip hop boot camp that they spent with their fans'

'Although they were here for a short time, they learned a lot through the time they were here'

'Now while carrying a special memory, it's time to leave once again'

'Last day'

'Now, the morning of your last day of your hip hop boot camp has risen, for the past 21 days, how will you guys remember the memories you made here, in LA?'

In the dorm, Jen was all packed up as a camera approached her. "Jennie, did you pack all your stuff? How do you feel?" The PD asked

"Yes, I have packed up. It's...bittersweet. I enjoyed the last 21 days, now we gotta go back to Korea. It was so nice being back in my country. I hope we come back soon."

"What did you like the most from your stay, here?"

"Helping the guys experience America to the fullest. I treated the guys to one of my favorite places to eat, so they could try out the food I like to eat. They're hooked!"

Sitting on the couch, Jen and the guys cheer that it's the day they go back to Korea.

"Did you guys have fun in LA?" Tony asked

"Very fun! Because of them, we learned a lot." Jimin answered

"I always thought that you guys were people who always played around a lot, but then you guys are supposed to be serious, you guys are serious. You guys would play around with us to give us a fun time. These sides made me think of you guys as my real brothers. It's very natural and really nice." Suga genuinely said. "From now on, whenever we come to America, we're always going to miss you."

"This was our first time living with our tutors and experiencing many things," J-Hope spoke. "Despite the fact that it was our first time, you guys approached us first and thank you so much for making memories for us that we will never forget."

With a grin, Jin said, "While we were in America, when it was hard, it was a tiring and difficult time, but we're really thankful to you for always being on our side to help us. I can't express how thankful I am. Because you guys helped us adapt to this place. You guys are really great hyungs."

"At first, I had a lot of thoughts that there would be prejudice. Because they were born here, they're in the biggest music industry, and they're true artists who dipped their feet in the pace where hip hop really started." Rapmon added. "I thought that there would be prejudice between us. But the moment we met, you guys treated us the same as any other. So from that, I was really impressed. It was an honor to have worked with you guys and I just want to say thank you."

With an eye smile, Jimin said to the tutors, "Because I'm very shy in front of strangers and we couldn't even communicate, I was very worried about how I would approach you guys. But because you approached me first and talked to me first it must've been actually harder on our tutors. But I think it was really nice because you guys always told us good things. I will never forget what you guys taught me, and I'll become cooler."

"I was very worried about whether I would be able to make friends. But right now, I think you guys are friends who I will forever have." V smiled. "I'm very, very thankful and I feel like I'm going to cry. Jennie beat me to it." He nudged her.

"I was trying to cry discretely." She wiped her tears and sniffed.

"Because you guys always took care of us well and always thought about us first." He continued.

Jennie had a sad smile on her face as she turned to the tutors. "It's...it's going to be weird waking up in the morning now because we're so used to you coming in, yelling for us to wake up and dragging us out of bed. Haha. Thank you, for being so patient with us. And giving us words of wisdom. I hope we can all stay in touch. Maybe we'll show you around in Korea."

"That'll be dope." Nate nodded with Tony.

Jungkook mentioned, "I can't speak English but I'm thankful that you guys always talked to me in a way so I can understand. And I'm also thankful for teaching me many things. And I'm very thankful of you guys always waking me up every morning. I'm going to miss you guys, a lot."

"He's 16 years old. It doesn't drop off, like he's younger than the rest of them and to be that young and be that talented, I'm proud of him." Tony praised.

"Ah, thank you." He bowed.

"I really enjoyed myself with you guys for the last two weeks. I had a lot of good times, a lot of good memories. I learned a lot from you guys. Imma miss you guys and I consider you guys close to me forever." Tony smiled

"Well, I just wanna say, that you guys have inspired me like, 'Go as hard as I can.' You only get one life. So, you gotta like get the most out of every day. I learned that from you guys, so that's why I always say: You guys deserve to be #1." Nate said.

After their emotional talk, they all end up hugging each other. "Tony, can I have a hug?" Jennie asked with a smile.

Smiling, he opened his arms, inviting her. "Bring it in, girl."

"Yeah!" She ran up and wrapped her arms around him. Picking her up, he spun her around, making her laugh.

'The sadness of their time to say goodbye to one another is big. Promising one another to meet again one day'

"What has changed the most about you?" PD asked

"I believe I've become more confident in my singing. And it's motivating me to try to sing different styles. After performing at the concert, I believe I can do it." Jennie answered

'Now, it's time to go back to Korea'

Jennie grabbed her bags, taking it out of the room. "To Korea, we go!" She cheered, walking behind Rap Monster. Turning to the camera, she waved. "Bye! I'm not going to cry, I promise. I'll be back, America!"

'Hip hop boot camp has ended.'

'Their individual notebooks that are filled with the memories that they had here.'

Any YAH Felix sprog (Harry, Ru, Ellie) facts? Favorite vs hated things, things they do with Felix vs Oliver, how they are when they grow up, what they think about Ollie's family and Ollie himself, relationship/dynamic with each other, their grandparents,

Venetia, Farleigh and Lu (just anything you can imagine). Marcus facts would also be very welcome.

Would you ever continue any of your other fics or do you consider them a one-and-done because you've already said everything you had to say about that AU?

Any other Cattonquick plot bunnies?

Favorite vs dreaded part of the writing process?

Parts you're especially happy with in your Saltburn fics? (a scene, foreshadowing, characterization, dialog, Ocs...)

Alright let's whack a cut in- gonna do these out of order for speed purposes! There's a lot here so I didn't answer everything, but there should be a lot to sink your teeth into!

Extending my oneshots- there may be scope for more on top of em when I am finished with YAH but I will probably leave them be. I'm a firm believer in that Felix and Oliver probably wouldn't work out if they got together younger, but it's still an interesting dynamic to play around with. If I was going to continue one, it'd probably be Hang Me Out To Dry, though.

Other fics- I actually haven't read any others, mostly because I am on that #grindset for YAH 😅 it's something I'm looking forward to when it's finished, being able to rummage about and find authors to hype up!

Best/worst bits of the writing process- worst is finding the starting sentence for the chapter. Once that pops into my head, it's fine. Also, when I'm trying to shove them towards a plot point but they won't get off of each other. Best is hittin' that flow state, brain go brrrrr and words happen. I honestly don't really edit that much, although I am slowly going back through and making lil tweaks, but even that is kinda satisfying.

My fave bits of YAH are:

Any of Felix's dumb lil one-liners, but especially, "runny eggs at mach five."

The Christmas Party.

Felix and Farleigh's heart to heart.

The bathroom chat with Jeff.

The Lucia foreshadowing for sure- that was so satisfying to see people going "OMG I SEE IT" in the comments.

I also really like my lil supporting cast, I hope they feel real and nuanced!

So gonna just do a big ol ramble on the Cattonlets, because I love these kids, but it may not cover everything because even I don't know all of it yet 😅

All of the kids go to/went to boarding school, but only because Lucia and Felix agreed that they need the best education possible. They're home as much as possible, but that means Saltburn is often pretty empty in term-time. The schools themselves are "sister schools" so although they aren't coed, there's plenty of chances to see each other in the week.

They have very different relationships with Felix and Lucia. Felix kinda threw himself into "parenting" in part as a rebellion- if I'm gonna be a dad, I'm going to be a DAD. They had nannies, but mostly to be backup instead of the primary caretakers. Lucia, on the other hand, was still a teenager when Harry was born (she was on her gap year when she and Felix met) and was so desperate to be accepted that she went hard into The Done Thing. This slowly turned her into a slightly distant figure- the kids love her, but they cherish the times when her mask slips and she can actually have fun with them. They'd all known that their parents are together out of duty, but things only started to get really unbearable when Aunty V got sick, because then Felix was stressed and as such couldn't just shrug off Lucia's annoyance any more.

They're all very different, but they're a tight-knit little bunch. Harry's the princess, Ru's the nerd and Ellie's the brains. They're all pretty popular, but they're not as cliquey as Felix was- in part because Felix wanted them Properly Socialised from a young age (hence getting The Help to bring their kids over for Saltburn Summers). He also really wanted to make sure they were more emotionally mature than he was. Felix saw how his "accident" hurt his parents, and once Harry was born he had a bit of a realisation that he really had not been prepared for anything bad to ever happen to him.

With Oliver, the main thing is that he makes Felix far happier than they've seen him in ages. There was absolutely a Cattonlet group chat about it. Their general consensus was that they probably wouldn't mind if Oliver came around more, but that dad probably wouldn't ever realise what was going on. Harry absolutely had a very small, situational, only-available-option crush on Oliver that started when they picked him up, but that absolutely vanished the night of the Alexander Dinner. She kept it to herself because although it wasn't really fair on mum, all three of the kids missed their actual, fun dad. She assumed that if she got them together, they'd keep it secret like everyone else's parents, and it'd be a win-win.

There's an initial shock, obviously, and Ellie takes it hardest because she still really hoped that her parents loved each other. She's the slowest to warm up to Oliver properly afterwards, but Harry and Ru help because Harry has Felix's five-second emotional memory and Ru... well. Ru feels absolutely betrayed by Lucia, which means he's suddenly Oliver's staunchest supporter. There will be more about this later, once YAH is done and I'm into less established territory.

Oliver as a step-parent is actually a far better foil to Felix than Lucia, primarily because while Lu was concerned with appearances, Oliver comes from the world of Consequences and will give better reasons than "it would look bad". Lucia is also a better parent after the split, because she can actually take time to find herself as an adult and take time doing stuff she likes. They actually end up being sort-of friends, although Lucia actually realises she likes Oliver better than Felix after a little while of coparenting.

Oliver's parents are a little intimidated by the Cattonlets- and remain intimidated by Harry- but they are actual, well-versed grandparents. They're initially nervous, because these kids are rich-rich, but that actually means that the little treats and outings they do are novelty. "What do you mean, you've never been to Knowsley Safari?" "You kids fancy mcdonalds?" "Off to a car boot sale- come off it, you must know what a car boot sale is..."

They do need to find out about Farleigh, but we will tackle that later.

Marcus. I love, love, love Marcus and he will be showing up in later stuff but...

He is the stability that Farleigh has always needed. Think Patrick from Schitt's Creek in private, he's a wry, solid figure that Farleigh can rage at or break down on or just be near. He exudes calm like one of those plugin things people use to chill their cats out.

In public, he is just there for The Farleigh Show. People think he's an accessory, but he's choosing to be one. He and Farleigh are actually intensely private about their actual relationship, in part because Farleigh's need to be detached manifests far more around others. They are non-monogamous, but they're highly, highly communicative about it.

He's a solid country boy from a small town in Ohio. He has one older brother, and was the only out gay guy in his school.

His family are, honestly, amazing. Farleigh loves them so hard, because they gave him the whole hearted love the Cattons couldn't. He buys Marcus's mom expensive, tacky handbags that she LOVES. His dad doesn't speak much, if at all, but he has a faded bumper sticker on his truck that says I LOVE MY GAY SON. PROBLEM? and a less faded one that says I LOVE MY GAY SON AND HIS PARTNER. PROBLEM? that Marcus had made specially for Christmas one year.

Marcus' father has absolutely knocked out teeth at a PTA meeting. The same with Marcus's big brother. For both Marcus' dad and his brother... think Wayne from Letterkenny.

You will not have a problem with Marcus, because then your bigger problem will be a broken jaw. If you have a problem with Marcus and Farleigh, especially if your problem is because Farleigh ain't white, you're gonna need to set up a gofundme because you sure don't have medical insurance. They do, because Marcus' lovely partner made sure of that.

Why are Marcus' parents so chill? Simple, really. Marcus had an uncle that he never met. Nobody knew that Stephen was queer that way until he... passed away. The letters he left behind broke his little brother's heart. When Marcus told his parents that he liked boys, there was no question about accepting him wholeheartedly. They'd already known anyway, ever since he was a little boy.
