Congratulations! You’re being smothered with a completely random headcanon about Mandalorian marriage customs rescued! Please do not resist.
The Rite of Riduurok Akaanir, aka “Lover’s Quarrel”
Alright…so I gotta be honest and say that even though I can’t remember how exactly this headcanon came to me, I’ve been carrying it around for years, ever since first watching Rebels and shipping Sabezra 😅 …and at this point, I feel like it’s burning a hole in my head, trying desperately to get out, so I’m gonna save myself the expense of reconstructive cranial surgery and just share it:
Mandalorians like to fight. Actually, they don’t just like to fight, “weapons are a part of [their] religion,” or at least their culture—and for many, their entire lives are built around that. In the case of the Children of the Watch, strict adherence to a No-Living-Being-Can-See-You-With-Your-Helmet-Off orthodoxy even gets in the way of basic interpersonal behavior, like eating a meal together. The implications of that are…interesting…and not in a “wow that’s cool!” way…more like a “kark, that’s depressing” way.
Tumblr media
Basically, I started to wonder how the “BAM! BOOM! BAM! BOOM! BLOW STUFF UP AND KILL THOSE FORCE-WIELDING MANIACS!” portion of Mandalorian culture (so…most of it?) intersects with intrinsic parts of human…wait, nope, sorry Grogu sentient life—namely romantic intimacy. (Paz Vizsla has, presumably, not taken his helmet off in decades…and he has a son who’s probably 12ish years old, tops…so do you think he ever stares at his kid and tries parsing out his own features to get an idea of what his wife looks like?) It’s an extreme example from an extreme sect, but there’s application to Mandalorian society as a whole. Where does love fit into a worldview or galaxy-view, I guess where conflict is a core tenet? When do individuals stop existing as warriors and start existing as people? Do they ever?
Tumblr media
Anyway, the point is that on its face, the cultural dogma doesn’t seem to leave much room for authentic social and romantic intimacy, especially the latter since, ya know, the beskar has to come off both literally and figuratively in order to procreate. It’s difficult for me to see how the necessity of physical and emotional vulnerability can coexist with the rest of Mando culture—so let’s just leave it at that.
But for a civilization to survive as long as Mandalore has without totally disintegrating, those intimate relationships have to exist, and there’s plain evidence that they do. For all their problems, the Wren family clearly loves each other, and we even get a glimpse of some soft Alrich/Ursa PDA in “Heroes of Mandalore.” Then there’s Bo-Katan, who still cares deeply for her sister despite…well…joining a terrorist faction to help overthrow her. That says something, right?
Tumblr media
Wrapping my mind around how authentic love can exist in a fictional warrior society really got me thinking—so much so that I headcanoned a ritual (Riduurok Akaanir, “Lover’s Quarrel”) to help myself work it all out.
The general idea? On Mandalorian wedding nights, the bride and groom have a private duel. A duel to the death? Maybe if it’s an arranged marriage and one party really wants out and I’m gonna speculate that Bo-Katan widowed herself at least four times before running off to join Death Watch.
Tumblr media
More commonly, though, it’s just a playful act to embody love transcending conflict. Alrich Wren, for example, isn’t a traditional warrior, but Ursa didn’t assert her superior combat prowess on their wedding night by firing a wrist rocket at his face something Bo-Katan probably did to a few of the short-lived husbands Satine picked out for her. (“Parry this, you kriffing casual.”) Instead, I’d like to think Alrich and Ursa went through the basic motions of a hand-to-hand duel, not necessarily to prove who’s the better warrior, but as an intimate prelude to the actual consummation of their marriage—almost like a mutually disarming dance. (Could it be light-heartedly competitive? Sure! As the first Mando to perform the Riduurok Akaanir with a Jedi, Sabine would go all-out to make sure she doesn’t lose to Ezra! 😆) When the dance-duel ends, they set aside their warrior identities to become something more: husband and wife. It’s like a way of saying, “As Mandalorians, what we do is fight, but we’re more than mere weapons. We fight so we can love. We wear armor to protect ourselves, our homes, and our families. It’s an important part of who we are, but we’re ultimately made of flesh and blood, not cold beskar.”
So that’s the point of Riduurok Akaanir, a term I came up with using this nifty English to Mando’a online translator (before I just called it “Wedding Night Fight” in my head). It’s not supposed to be a blanket explanation—but intimacy and vulnerability don’t have clear utility in a warrior culture, and this is my best attempt at bridging that perceived gap.
If you made it down this far without dozing off, enjoy this Sabezra incorrect quote! 😁
Fenn Rau: I trust that Sabine briefed you on Mandalorian wedding customs?
Ezra: Yep! I know exactly how not to get myself killed before officially becoming a married man.
Rau: The trick is not getting yourself killed *after* becoming a married man. Did she explain what happens on the wedding night?
Ezra: Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Rau:
Ezra:...yeahthatsnotreallysomethingIneedorwantSabinetoexplaintomeandKanankindofgavemethelowdownbackduringmyJeditrainingdayssoIthinkIknowwhattodobutthanksanyway.
Rau: Kanan taught you about the Mandalorian ‘lover’s quarrel,’ then? His instruction was even more thorough that I imagined. Or maybe he always knew you and Sabine would end up together.
Ezra: Sorry, did you say...?
Rau: The Rite of Riduurok Akaanir is usually non-fatal. Sabine seems to be genuinely fond of you, so I’m sure you’ll survive to see the sunrise.
Ezra:

Ezra: Oh kriff.

Introducing Boza Eldar, heir to House Eldar!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Sorry, I got a little editing-happy with some of them.)
Now, regarding his clothing style, since Boza's a Mandalorian, I knew from the get-go that designing him in armor wasn't going to work. However, when I came across the options I used above, I realized that I could easily try and show him in a "body glove", though I had to make do with the gloves and shoes. The belt...actually fits on its own. I chose this pose to give the idea of Boza working out in the early morning, and I tried to show in his expression that he's a rather smiley fellow who isn't easily ruffled even in mock combat. As for his given name, well, let me explain that before attempting to whip up his backstory:
Boza was named, and made in honor of, Chadwick Boseman.
Four years ago, Mr. Boseman was sadly taken from the world. Many were left heartbroken and sad, most of all his family. Unbeknownst to the public until his passing, Mr. Boseman had been suffering from cancer since the late stages of Captain America: Civil War's finishing production, at least. He did not share it with anyone outside of his family, and fought it just as hard as the Black Panther would have.
On a more personal note about the late actor, I want to extend my thanks to him in this tribute. Long before he was cast in the role, the Black Panther, also known as Prince/King T'Challa, was always a favorite character of mine. I briefly saw him in Avengers: Earth's Mightest Heroes, and then sporadically in Avengers Assemble. However, my greatest introduction to the character and his backstory was brought to life by Mr. Boseman. Truly, watching him in the theater as Black Panther felt like watching my favorite side Avenger come to life and step into the real world. Mr. Boseman played the character just as poised, regal, ferocious, and honorable as I had come to know and expect of the character. In hindsight, his part of the film riveted my attention almost as much, if not to the same degree, as the story of Cap and Bucky. I was much happier for his portrayal of T'Challa than I would have guessed, and perhaps more than I realize now. And for that, I am eternally grateful he was offered and accepted the role, for without him, my experience with both the film and the character would be much duller, and my memories of the old MCU would not be nearly as bright.
Rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman. You have earned it, and may you continue your adventures as the Black Panther in Heaven.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boza Eldar was born the sole heir to his House in the Mandalore System. The Eldars are renowned for their prowess in martial arts, and their ability to use their words as weapons in the political games of the galaxy. As the only direct heir to the House, Boza studied across the System to learn battle strategy, martial arts, languages, politics, technology, the arts, and much more. However, during his studies, he became more and more suspicious of the Empire's motives, causing him to dig into their works in his off time - which he did not often have. Realizing the true nature of the Empire, Boza was prepared to take the matter up with his parents about pushing back when news of Sabine Wren blowing the whistle on the Empire after her tenure in the Academy spread through the System. Not long after, Sabine was accused of being a traitor to Mandalorian society, and a coward for running from her people and "justice".
Despite the people's distaste for the "runaway Wren", Boza, impressed by her courage to say anything against the Empire, was inspired to slowly build up a secretive group of Mandalorians to combat the Empire someday. His parents helped him set up the network, though it was mostly conducted through intelligence gathering and occasional "heists" that disrupted the Empire's work and transports. Despite this, the atmosphere was still tense, which grew worse as rumors of a rogue Mandalorian outside the System was wrecking havoc and combating the Empire grew - and that she was a Jedi. Although Gar Saxon insisted the rumors were Rebel propaganda and censored all information regarding his work into recent Mandalorian "traitors", Boza knew this was no coincidence.
Although he had no particular love for the Jedi, Boza's studies of history involved Tarre Vizsla, and how the Mandalorian Jedi brought peace and unified the Clans and made them the powerful Sector that they now are. There were no Jedi from his line or any other in three thousand years, and yet now, not only has a member of a prominent Clan taken a stand against the Empire, but the first Mandalorian Jedi since Tarre has appeared, standing against the Emperor by her sheer existence. If the rumors about her were true, and if she and Sabine Wren were both working for this "Rebel Alliance", then that could only mean one thing:
The Mandalore System must go to war against the Empire.
Boza's family has their own religious view of what the Jedi call the Force, and he is certain that the appearance of a Jedi Mandalorian is a sign that they must unite once again, lest they be crushed. He, Sabine, and this rogue are children, but they can lead in a firefight, or inspire others to take up arms and combat the Empire. They must grow into these roles, for their people depend on them.
When Lady Bo-Katan Kryze returns with her own army of Mandalorians and wielding the Darksaber, Boza wastes no time in bringing his forces to supply her lost troops. Working with her, he finds himself assigned as a field commander alongside none other than Sabine Wren herself. Despite her still stained image in Mandalorian society, Boza cannot help but find her intriguing. They fight well together, are evenly matched in a fight (though they each have a tendency to "lose" a match to the other), and understand their respective interests in art. Where Sabine is colorful and expressive with her artwork (both with and without explosives involved), Boza prefers sculpting. He likes to work with his hands, and it helps calm nerves and distracts from the severity of the war. Although it is joked about often, others pointing to Boza allowing Sabine to paint his sculptures and figurines as the moment she fell in love with him has much evidence going for it.
When the war is over and Mandalore has been freed from the Empire, Tristan has assumed his birthright as the new Count Wren while Sabine's younger twin sister, Sacha, has joined Fenn Rau's new Proctectors. However, both Boza and Sabine realize that even with her courage and loyalty to Mandalore being proven, most men will still avoid her due to old political wounds, not helped by the fact that even now, Tristan is arranging a marriage for himself to earn some additional support, as Clan Wren is still persona non grata, both from their time with Death Watch and Sabine's past actions reflecting on them. Despite that, Boza knows one man who doesn't care for that part of her past, and asks Sabine if she would accept his hand in marriage, offering Clan Wren the support and protection of House Eldar as a wedding gift as well.
Zeb swears the marriage was one of the biggest, and definitely the most colorful, that he's ever attended.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's all, folks! Almost all of this is original on my end, save the name Eldar; although they're only known as Clan Eldar in the canon Star Wars universe, I decided to promote them to a House's standing in my take. I see Boza and Sabine having three kids, though I don't think either of them would mind a fourth - or even be unhappy with just two. I didn't have a place to put this, but I envision Boza having a pet "wolf cat". It's an actual named animal in Star Wars, though it has no official art - but I'm willing to imagine House/Clan Eldar's sigil is one....
Thank you for reading, and may the Force be with you!
vampire!sabine x werewolf!shin hcs
- sabine was born a human to the powerful and legendary vampire clan of wren, a branch clan of house vizsla. her mother, ursa wren, the current countess and matriarchal figure of the clan, married her human father alrich in secret.
- sabine was born prior to alrich getting turned to a vampire in an effort to save him from his lethal genetic blood disease, resulting her to carry his disease as a human-born. alrich didn't survive his changing, leaving ursa with two year old human baby sabine.
- sabine has a vampire-born younger half-brother named tristan. despite being ursa's firstborn, the clan disregarded sabine because she's human, always casting her aside like she is nothing. it gets worse as she grows older and alrich's disease began to manifest it's symptoms when she was just nine, and tristan was seven.
- sabine had never wanted to be turned, but ursa loved her daughter too much to lose her the same way she lost alrich. she was turned using her mother's blood and bite against her will. ursa's blood provided sabine half of the vampiric powers tristan and other vampire-borns possessed. sabine was thirteen when ursa turned her, and sabine had resented her mother and everyone else since.
- sabine being turned doesn't tamper any of the discrimination within the clan, the evident unhealed bite mark serves as a reminder that sabine is never truly a part of the clan, an outcast, and that she was not acknowledged as an heiress to ursa's throne. but then again, sabine never wanted any of it.
- sabine, unlike vampire-borns, doesn't have permanent elongated upper fangs or blood-red irises with black scleras. she can also still go out under the sun, but not for too long because she still retains the heightened skin and eyes hypersensitivity. her bright brown eyes turns vampiric only when she feeds, or when she taps into her supernatural powers.
- sabine doesn't live in the wren bastion anymore, sneaking away from the suffocating stonewalled ancient seat of clan wren. no one wanted her to be there anyway, and she no longer wants anything to do with being a vampire or associated with them. her mother already had a much worthier heir, anyway. she fled to the furthest of countryside, occupating an abandoned cottage on a white sediment cliff that overlooks the oceans.
- sabine was visited by tristan after some decades. watching her younger brother, now an adult full-blooded vampire, made her feel bittersweet. tristan told her that he misses her; that he wants her to come home to the bastion and claim her birthright. sabine couldn't, she doesn't want to. so, she hugs tristan tightly and lets her younger brother stay for a couple of days, before she lets him go again with no knowledge of when she could even see him again.
- sabine spent the next decades after tristan's visit hiding in low profile, constantly afraid that a member of clan wren or house vizsla would come to find her. or, even worse; hunters coming to slaughter and sell her fangs for golds. she hated the world; her clan, the hunters, the humans who are vile to vampires. but, the one person she truly hates, is herself.
- sabine doesn't feed on human blood anymore since she's in hiding. she conditioned her vampiric half to remain dormant which she buried with her human half to survive. despite so, the monster within still needs to be fed, and to compensate, sabine hunts for wild game instead. she drinks the blood, and eats the meat; that way, both halves of her remains satisfied.
- sabine finds stray juvenile vampires lurking around the town not far from her cottage, hungry and dangerous. sometimes, when they're much younger and naive, sabine uses her wren blood to intimidate them away from town. but, most of the time, sabine never bats an eye at the falling bodies, and will always stay clear for the next few weeks because she knows a vampire hunting party is assembled.
- sabine hadn't known that full blood moons enhance every single supernaturals, and that included her. she never experienced full blood moons as a vampire, and couldn't keep the monster buried when the moon began to rise in blood red hue. she hasn't fed on human blood for years, and she was famished. by the time the moon had risen to it's peak, sabine had feasted on a group of poachers in the dense forest some distance away from her cottage. when she regained control of the monster, she was mortified by what she'd done and locked herself for weeks.
- shin was initially a human orphan girl, barely scraping by daily in a remote, unnamed town in the middle of the great forest. the townsfolk doesn't know who her parents are, nor do they even know of her name. the folks sees her as some kind of looming curse, and barely anyone ever looked at her.
- shin had always been kicked and pushed and forced to work for scraps, rarely ever feeling the comfort or warmth of a home. she was always told to go to the forest to forage for fibers and woods by her last employer (if you could even call him that, from the way he treated ten year old shin), even when it's already dark outside and no one dares to leave town.
- shin was out foraging one night, like any other cold and wet nights. but, unlike any other nights, her fear was overwhelming. she knows the forest is littered with supernaturals and unknown beasts, with hunters and trappers laying out their snares for their bounties. just as she was heading back to town, a wolf trap close on one of her legs as she fell into a hole, feeling pain and cold like she's never felt before.
- shin awoke gasping, like she'd been drowning. for a brief moment she thought she was dead, because all she saw was the darkness above her. but, as she slowly regained her senses, she began feeling warmth beside her, then she sees the brilliant crackle of the fire, along with the figure of a towering man.
- shin had been wary of the man, but he–baylan skoll, as he had introduced himself–was not intending to hurt her. in fact, he was the one who saved her from bleeding out and frozen to death. baylan told her that she wouldn't survive the massive injury, not even with the vial of elixir he gave to save her earlier. shin asked why, and baylan told her she "has been seeking for death" herself.
- shin was dumbfounded, but couldn't even disagree with her saviour. death would be much more welcoming than being alive in barely liveable conditions. baylan stepped in and tells her that he can offer her a way out and to survive. he told her she could have a power such as she never imagined before; a power to not only help her survive but also thrive into something more. all shin had to do, is consent to baylan and be strong.
- shin had a feeling that she already knows what baylan is, and consents to be transformed. the fire had died sometime ago, and in the dark of the forest, baylan's eyes are glowing crimson-red. shin has heard tales of those eyes; werewolf alphas, the strongest of the werewolves. the bite was painful, but the physical transformation that follows after was undeniably excruciating.
- shin survived the transformation and was immediately taken under baylan's care, as he was the one who turned her. baylan had given her a new name to indicate her affiliation with him; hati. shin had become baylan's wolfling apprentice, following him for decades as she grew further into her powers, almost matching baylan's own. the realm hears and retells of their tales; skoll and hati, the elusive rogue wolves of the dark.
- shin lost baylan to the hands of wolf trappers and hunters who had staked out their whereabouts. they shot baylan with a bullet made of pure silver laced with wolfsbane, and her master had limped all the way from town to their hideout. shin held baylan close shen she found him, frantic as she clings to him as she felt him slipping away. the hunters are coming to finish him, he told her.
- shin cried as she begs him to hang on, and just a few moments before he breathed his last breath, baylan instructed shin to kill him with her claws and drink some of his blood, so that his powers are transferred into her. he also made her promise to burn his body so the hunters would not have his body as their trophy. despite her reluctance, shin did as told, rewarding baylan with a wolf's death instead of that from the hands of hunters.
- shin feels the power of an alpha such as baylan coursing in her veins and body just as the party of hunters arrived at their hideout. now a full alpha, shin massacred the party of ten hunters in a manner that left the scene with bone-chilling bloodbath. her true wolf form stood at seven foot tall, just a head shorter than baylan's, with a thick coat of bone-white fur, claws elongated and canines sharper than knives. shin's eyes are vermillion, both in her werewolf and true form, bloodier than baylan's.
- shin spends the next decades seething in hatred and lust for vengeance. heartells of a new rogue alpha roaming around the realm travels faster when shin always leave a trail of whatever hunter thinks they can claim bounty on her head. shin knows that killing other werewolves are taboo, because when another werewolf kills its kind, they took away the power from their victims as well. shin couldn't care less, though. if a werewolf challenges her, she never hesitated to kill and steal their powers, amplifying her own power to a magnitude beyond baylan's.
special tag for @cethlyarlo !! thank you for motivating me to finish this long overdued wolfwren supernatural au HDSKDJSK hope you enjoy it!! :D
Hi fellow Star Wars : Rebels fans and Sabine x Ezra shippers, I hope you can indulge me for just a little while :)
I have a few questions that I haven’t found the answerd to after a rewatch ( my first since the show ended ) of Star Wars : Rebels, as well as my second watch-through of Star Wars : Ahsoka ( and of course, thoroughly scouring Wookiepedia ) :
1.1) On “‘Bine” = Did Ezra, or anybody for that matter, call Sabine, “‘Bine”, in canon?
1.2) On “Ez” = Similarly, did Sabine, or anybody else, call Ezra, “Ez”?
2) On “Blue Bean” = I know that it’s from ‘Bine, but why Blue?
3) Are the Mandalorian nouns, adjectives, sentences, etc., that I’ve seen in many, MANY fanfics, like “cyarika”, and the marriage vows, or even “dikut”, canon? Or is it made up by the fandom - or even a mixture of both ( i.e., the Mandalorian language / grammar / words do exist in canon, but they’ve been used by the fandom to suit their fanfic needs ( I’m particularly intrigued if the marriage vows ( I can’t remember the while thing, but it’s something ending with “we will raise warriors” ) do exist in canon ( they’re beautiful, either way )))
4) I know that the Mandalorian people inhabited multiple words, judging from the Rebels series ( Fenn Rau’s Protector’s planet, the Wren’s Krownest, and the main planet of Mandalore itself ). Is there a canon source for what exactly happened to Krownest and the entire Wren clan, specifically Sabine’s family ( Ursa, Alrich, and Tristan )? We know from the Ahsoka series ( from Huyang in particular ) that they’re dead - BUT HOW? Does that mean Krownest was ALSO glassed? Or was it only Mandalore that was glassed, and most of clan Wren ( particularly the ruling family / Sabine’s immediate family ) just happened to be there ( most likely fighting their war of liberation with Bo Katan leading them ( although, full disclosure, I’ve only watched S1 and S2 of The Mandalorian; I haven’t had time yet to watch S3 )) - and if this is the case, what of Krownest ( does the Wren clan stronghold still exist? )?
Thank you in advance to any of our esteemed loremasters out there who will take the time to answer :)
[ EDIT : ONE ADDITIONAL QUESTION PLEASE!!! :)
5) Did the Spectres know that the Sith Lord they encountered on Lothal ( and later on Malachor ) was actually Darth Vader - apprentice and second-in-command to the Emperor himself?
Thank you again ^_^ ]
What’s your favorite rarepair ship?
I like Barriss x Cody, Shaak Ti x Plo Koon (that sounds good, space mom and space dad being together and raising Wolffe and Ahsoka) and Qui-Gon x Shmi (yes, it exist. This ship has even own tag on AO3).
I also don't mind Obi-Wan x Satine x Cody. I'm always sticking to one OTP but I can make small exception here.
I also love some canon pairings that nobody talks about (so they fit to rarepair category, I guess.) For example: Beru x Owen, Iden x Del, Bail x Breha and Alrich x Ursa. Those are relationships that are forgotten.
Ahsoka Ep 4 Spoilers Ahead! Alot to cover here! 🌌
HOLY CRAP! 🤧
Cute Jacen, War criminal Chopper, and Mama Hera are back and are ready to head out!!!
Carson Teva is there! You know, the pilot that works with Din in S3 👀
And what do you know, Brendan Wayne made a cameo. You know, Mando stunt double. Which means he was on set. Maybe Din and Grogu will make an appearance? 👀
Ahsoka really expects Sabine to destroy that very thing that can find Ezra? She attached him❤️
I see both sides here!
Huyang got hands!!! 🦾
It's nice to see Sabine in her Mando armor augin. And do you hear that? That's the sound of blasters bouncing off of the beaker. 💥
Good work ladies! 🤍🧡💙 💜🧡
It's Rematch time! Fight!
Okay, turns out Marrok was nobody, he got taken out quick, LMAO! Thank god, it's not Ezra. However that green smoke...was he under a spell or was he a night sister? He may remain a mystery🤔
Shin don't play around! Damn girl! 🔥
Sabine is doing great holding against Shin. 🤺
Baylan skoll is so interesting, I swear! (Augin, Rest in Peace Ray ❤️)
Baylan and Ahsoka's fight was tense as hell. 😨
Ahsoka burned her hand from grabbing the map! I know that has to hurt so bad.
Oh god, she's on the edge! Sabine here!
*See Ahsoka fall into the ocean* Eh, she'll be fine. But still...DAMN!
Sabine's family died on Mandolore... Ursa, Alrich, and Tristan. All of them are gone during the damn purge! Like Holy shit! Because I was curious where Sabine and her family was during all that and now we know. That's just effed up. 💔
Even more reason to hate Moff Gideon!
Also, I don't blame her for Sabine giving the map. I'm already seeing people starting to get mad at her for that. Come on guy, she wants to see Ezra. Considering what she has lost already 💔
Shin force choking Sabine...she is starting to scare me bit. Even her master is telling her to stand down. 😳
Hera and the gang just arrived and GODDANM, that Force jump was HUGE! 💥 It killed a few X-wings too.
Jacen is showing signs that he force sensitive like his father "I got a bad feeling about this." 🥲
Ahsoka is in the World Between Worlds somehow! 🌌💙
SNIPS!!!!
Anakin! He's here! HE'S HERE! But HOW! DOSNT MATTER! HE'S BACK!
And that's it! That was a lot to cover and these were my thoughts! Phew
3 Mandos and a Baby AU: The Aq Vetina Crisis Part 2
So, the Republic mediators are Bail, Padme, and Obi-Wan. Anakin and Ahsoka are going along for security reasons, along with a some clones. Unbeknownst to the rest of the delegation, Anakin was personally asked by the Chancellor to spy on the Mandos and figure out what they’re planning. Anakin’s kinda conflicted on this because the Mand’alor is beloved by the men and once spent three hours reading out the names of every slave Orn Fre Taa traded, but the Chancellor’s counting on him.
“It’s a very important job Anakin my boy, and you’re the only one I trust to do it”. Ugh. Skeevy Sheev is skeevy.
So, Mandalore pushes for the negotiations to be held on Aq Vetina, in the slowly rebuilding city of Floria Prima. They may or may not threaten to pull their deployed troops out of the field if this demand is not met. Palpatine convinces his old friend Senator Vald to concede to their demand, in the name of peace (Palpatine is already plotting. The deaths of several high ranking officials in the location the Mandalorians chose would be a delightful justification to call for a Republic occupation. And poor, poor Anakin, if Senator Amidala should be one of those to fall).
So everyone meets up on Aq Vetina. The Jinata-Meerian delegation is basically just Jinata system reps and a member of the Trade Federation, with only Senator Larwellian Greevdos (I have given up on giving people names that make even the slightest lick of sense. I realized I don’t have to, it’s Star Wars, home of Ima Gun-Di) and a representative of the Mining Guilds representing the Meerian Sector.
Negotiations are tense, partly because of the circumstances and partly because the pretentious Jinata reps think the Mandalorians aren’t taking this seriously. I mean, the Mand’alor’s aunt is staring at them menacingly while holding a small child and instead of disciplining her or sending the kid away the Mand’alor keeps sneaking the kid fruit!
Listen, Fenn’s off on Corellia with a squad of Protectors and Bo’s strill escorting a Mandalmotors executive and a member of the Ministry of Defense to speak to one of the many ship design companies on a joint project or two. He can’t watch Din right now he’s busy getting embroiled in shenanigans involving orphaned scrumrats and photosensitive crime lords.
Anyway, back at the negotiating table in a move that surprises everyone neither the Mand’alor, the Jorad’alor, or Senator Batin speak. No, instead they give the floor to Administrator Rhuya Kadjn of Aq Vetina, who speaks of how it was the Mandalorians who saved them and gave them the chance to rebuild. How not a single one of the crates of relief supplies came from Jinata or the Republic. It was all Mandalore. The Mando’ade had, in typical Mando’ade fashion, become inextricably part of their lives, whether as spouses or as adoptive parents for children orphaned in the attack.
Then Journeyman Ruus Halax of Vanquo tells a story of how many years ago, Mandalore the Ultimate conquered the planet, and though in the centuries that followed the Republic reconquered the planet, Mandalorian culture remained. That, combined with Mand’alor Kryze’s new mining regulations (jointly thought up by Mandalore the Binder and Mandalore the Uniter) made swearing fealty to the Mandalorian government seem pretty sweet. Especially after years of various mining companies and guilds bleeding them dry. They remember what happened on Bandomeer years ago, how some of their people went looking for work but wound up in slave collars instead.
The rest of the day is spent going around in circles because in a battle like this the only way to win is stubbornness. Bail calmly suggests they all break for dinner, and maybe explore the rebuilt city center, to get a better idea of how things are developing on planet. Everyone thinks it’s a marvelous idea, and Padme discreetly suggests to Anakin that they turn it into a date night.
Meanwhile Ahsoka’s trying to avoid focusing on the vaguely humanoid translucent blue figures lurking in the corner of her eye, but she’s not gonna tell her masters because then they’ll just make her go to medical for what might just be a reaction between the local environment and her Torgruta physiology. It’s not, Korkie’s ghosts just recognize another mandokarla Force-sensitive.
Anyway, everyone splits up with their various security teams: Padme is with Anakin and Rex + some other 501st troopers, Bail and Obi-Wan are hanging out with a few of the men, the Jinata-Meerian reps brought their own security, and the Mandalorians are Mandalorians. Ahsoka’s given permission by Anakin to go out and have fun.
Obi-Wan leads Bail and the men to a classic Mandalorian tihaar’yaim (bar) for drinks and classic spicy mando bar food. Shenanigans ensue, including Obi-Wan getting a bit wasted and confiding in Bail about Korkie maybe being his son. Bail’s just kinda like “okay, we been knew” and trying not to choke on the extra spicy food the Jedi ordered. Listen, Bail can handle spice, but Mandalorian levels of spice are something else. It’s like if someone used to Scotch Bonnets at most was given a 7 Pot Yellow. Poor man is dying.
Anakin and Padme are having an awesome date night at this cute little out of the way restaurant while Rex and the rest of the men on security detail try to discreetly blend in. One benefit of Mandalore’s clone freedom underground is no one questions the number of clones in the building that night. Their night is interrupted when Lady Bo-Katan comes in along with her scary second-in-command, some dude they hadn’t seen earlier, and the same kid she had on her lap before.
Somehow the Mandos don’t notice them (actually they do they just don’t care) but they spend the rest of their date huddled down in their booth trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, painfully aware of everything the three adults say.
Bo thanks Ursa and Alrich for agreeing to eat at this place instead of one of the various mando-centric food halls, Din – apparently that’s the kid’s name – was a good boy at the negotiations today and she promised him some sort of local cake, and this place makes the best. Ursa reveals she’s pregnant, and Anakin is a little shocked to feel through the Force that the two parents to be are sad, and kinda grieving. Then one of them mentions their prior losses (refering to Tristan and Sabine) and Anakin and Padme immediately draw the wrong conclusion. But for Ursa and Alrich that grief is an ever present thing and they’re genuinely excited for this new ik’aad.
Then Bo says “wait a minute, did you guys actually remember to get married?” and the short answer is no, no they did not. Listen, they were going to, it’s just everytime they attempted to find a cord and a crowd yet another crisis occurred and things got delayed.
Alrich jumps up and asks if anyone has a red cord and surprisingly one of the 501st clones throws him one (the clone is named Loverboy and he is living). Loverboy also offers to video the riduurok for them, and they accept. So yeah, Anakin and Padme’s date got crashed by a pregnancy announcement and an impromptu wedding, but at least Anakin has some decent intel on some important Mandos for the Chancellor.
Ahsoka winds up hanging out with the Mand’alor and his friends. She just kinda ran into them as they headed out to go to explore the town and she somehow was convinced to join them. They wind up watching Mandalorian Mamma Mia at the rec center, because I believe in Space ABBA supremacy. It’s fun except those blue flashes Ahsoka’s seeing are more common around the Mand’alor and it’s seriously starting to freak her out. At one point she thinks she hears a voice (Myles really loves the “Does Your Mother Know” scene).
As for Satine, her and the rest of the Mandalorian party are watching a video of Senator Batin’s youngest son Rav take his first steps and making the appropriate cooing noises.
I’m gonna make a part 3 cause this is longer than I’d like.
Me, falling into the trap of shipping another pairing about a mysterious middle-aged parent who is saddled with the responsibility of keeping their people safe from a growing threat that may destroy everything they know and love while also dragging their teenage daughter into the conflict, and it also turns out they had a complicated past with their mysteriously absent spouse because the present spouse was involved in some shady business but their later-spouse kept them from getting worse and that’s enough content to be its own story somewhere, and even though things have been falling apart recently, they still love each other dearly, and the problem is that now I’m gonna ship it again without knowing who the other spouse is besides what we can assume and that the parent we already have might die soon:
How Tristan Wren might greet Ezra Bridger after Sabine and Ahsoka find him
Loosely based on this conceptual Alrich/Ursa one-shot “Tea Time”
Alrich: With your mother, it all started when she called me over. I assumed she only wanted a commission. Then she poured me tea, tea that I really don’t like, and told me I was one of her candidates to marry her and offered to take me out for dates.
--
Ezra: Tristan Wren, you have a beard now.
Tristan: You have a beard too.
Ezra: Sooooo, I’m assuming you’re cashing in on a Jedi favor.
Tristan: Tea?
Ezra: Sure.
Tristan: Anyway, you’re one of my prospective suitors.
Ezra spits out tea.
Tristan: You don’t like the tea? That’s a good sign! My father didn’t like the tea mother gave him!
In Which Bo-Katan Adopts A Baby Nite Owl
It was serious when the newbie couldn’t stand up straight.
Bo-Katan had repressed a sigh, watching her legs wobble as the drop ship took off and catapulted them into the stratosphere. Their helmets were on, hiding the newbie’s features, but her body language was so plain that Bo-Katan could picture her expression with the accuracy of an x-ray.
The newbie was a good shot, though, when her hands stopped shaking. She was a skilled aerialist, navigating a jetpack with familiar grace - when she could remember which way was up.
Bo-Katan watched her for that first day, memorizing the way she twisted her dark hair away under her helmet, the way her eyes smiled before her lips quirked, how her head twitched to the side when she focused.
She was a baby, her edges still soft, her emotions delicate and untouched by blood and deadly cynicism.
Bo-Katan was jaded. But this baby wasn’t, so obviously enchanted by the world’s every breath. She stared at her helmet, sometimes, as if the slim, watchful design of the Nite Owls was a part of a dream she’d had long ago and she couldn’t quite believe it was real. She worried the stun switches of her WESTARs, just to hear the click.
And that, in turn, enchanted Bo-Katan. Maybe something old, maybe something new, maybe something else entirely. Sometimes, Bo-Katan saw the steel in her eyes and nearly mistook her for Satine. Satine, whose fire had never tolerated the lethal beauty of Mandalore.
But Ursa did.
And slowly, Bo-Katan could not resist letting her in.
It started small. She corrected the younger woman’s form, taught her to breathe as she shot and anchor when she flew.
And then it was something else, and Bo’s wings weren’t used to being so open. She sat nearby, shoulder pressed wordlessly close after a hard mission. She hid Ursa’s tears from the rest of the squads, wrapped her wounds, soothed her pain.
When Ursa painted her helmet, Bo-Katan was there. When Alrich wrote letters, it was Bo’s ear Ursa found; when feelings grew to reckonings, it was from Bo that Ursa sought advice.
Bo-Katan wasn’t used to having someone. When her hands fell from Satine’s, they built walls where they used to build bridges, and Bo’s were so high and so tall that she could see only the bricks and hear only her own breath. She was a lone wolf, a night owl, defining herself in the weights of her blasters and the slit in her visor. And suddenly, that became all she really was.
But Ursa wasn’t.
Ursa didn’t look at Bo and say sister. Didn’t say mother or mentor or friend. Mandalorians weren’t known for friendships anyway. To Ursa, she wasn’t Kryze, said with a barked inflection and some strange combination of disdain and respect. To Ursa, she was rarely even Bo-Katan. She was just….Bo.
Bo, do you have a spare blaster pack?
Bo? How do you -
Bo, can I ask you something?
Ursa had found her way under Bo-Katan’s wings.
But Ursa wasn’t exactly a newbie anymore. Bo-Katan stopped being able to count the days since she arrived. She wasn’t an open book anymore, broadcasting her thoughts to everyone around her, but Bo-Katan knew her baby well enough to see what she was thinking anyway.
When Ursa shot, her hands were steady. When she flew, she never lost sight of the ground. And when the ship took off, she stood without wobbling.
The Guard of the Mand’alor
Chapter Two: Foundlings and the Future
(AO3)
Summary: Omera was a foundling, taken in by Mandalorians when her family was slaughtered. She never met a certain Mandalorian on Sorgan, but when the Mandalorian throne is claimed by Din Djarin, he is in need of an honor guard. Omera steps up to the challenge. Rating: T Pairing: Din Djarin x Omera Warnings: None. Notes:   We're continuing this I guess!! Haha, just had a lot of feelings about Din and foundlings and found family and the guard.
(Masterlist)
(Chapter One)(Chapter Three)
------------
“ … and Clan Wren is expected for the banquet tomorrow evening,” Bo-Katan continued. Omera stood tall opposite of Koska, and the two of them framed the throne of the Mand’alor, their beskar spears held vertically, while two others guarded the entryway.
Omera often tuned out during these reports, instead focusing on the entryways for any signs of danger, but that last part caught her attention. She’d have to let Myrah know - her fellow guard was off duty at the moment. Myra would be eager to see Sabine.
    Her attention turned back to Din as Bo-Katan finished up her daily briefing with the Mand’alor, and Din relaxed back into the throne more as the head of Clan Kryze left. Bo-Katan seemed intent on treating Din like a misguided little brother, and Omera could smother from the atmosphere in the room as Din stubbornly continued on his own path  - an admirable quality.
    With Bo-Katan gone, all left in the throne room were the Mand’alor and his guards, so Din soon signaled for them to stand at ease. He felt comfortable around them, and it pleased Omera to note that. The strain left his shoulders and he appeared calm - less overwhelmed.
The familiarity between Din and his guard only continued to strengthen - while they protected him, he returned the favor, being more involved in his guard’s routine than one would expect from a king. Hells, he even sparred with them in the training room, sharpening their skills with the beskar spears.
    “I only know Sabine of Clan Wren. Are the rest of them as pleasant, or should I be on guard?” Din asked.
    “They’re alright,” Koska shrugged to the side, slipping her helmet off, an action that Omera and the other two guards - Kad and Novoc - mirrored. Omera raised an eyebrow over at Koska as she realized her fellow guard was not going to elaborate.
    “Clan Wren was ostracized during the reign of the Empire. But they regained their honor in helping to free Mandalore from Imperial control. Sabine is the figurehead of the clan now, but her brother and mother are also well known. Her brother can be … antagonistic,” Omera said, as politely as she could. “While Ursa can also be prickly, she has good sense to her. Her husband, Alrich, is a quieter man - he doesn’t like to play in the world of politics.”
    Din nodded at this, though he didn’t ask any more questions to clarify or dig deeper. Omera was used to that - their king was a man of few words. But she knew it was because he spent most of his time thinking, and planning strategy, which he had a knack for.
    “Well,” Din stood up, readjusting his cape. “No more appointments today. I’m heading over to the Sanctuary,” he said, as if they hadn’t already guessed.
Omera nodded, and the rest of the guards straightened up. They put their helmets back in place, and followed Din out of the throne room. Omera smiled under her helmet as she watched the flow of his cape behind him. His stride wasn’t one that Bo-Katan had to teach him - it had always been kingly, a determined step to it that made others immediately fall aside. Her eyes fell to his left hand, the one she was closest to, where it rested at his side, and she held back that urge to grab it and hold it.
    It’d been over a month now since their excursion to Tatooine, dealing with Boba Fett. A month since sharing a Keldabe kiss, and while Omera could appreciate taking things slow, it was also incredibly frustrating. Being so close to him all the time but also feeling so far away tested her patience but strengthened her desire.
    Din continued his regal way through the courtyard, guiding them towards the far end of the expansive Mandalorian palace. The courtyard led into a garden with serene pools, where children were playing and splashing in the warm sun that filtered down through the leaves of willows.
    A caregiver sat off to the side, observing the children but not hovering. He stood as they approached, putting down a datapad and giving a small bow in their direction. The reaction from the children was much different as they began running up, all smiles and yells of excitement. They bombarded Din, and Omera stepped back out of the way in a practiced move when he fell to the ground with a pile of kids surrounding him. He let out a grunt, but then he laughed and sat up, clasping tiny shoulders and patting small backs.
    “You’ve proven my guard to be useless,” Din said, his tone mocking stern. Kad and Koska had remained at the entrance of the garden, distancing themselves from the ruckus, while Omera and Novoc lingered at Din’s side.
    “We’ve defeated the Mand’alor!” one of the boys proclaimed, his dark eyes gleaming with a mischief Omera was well acquainted with in her own daughter. She laughed behind her helmet, shaking her head. Din played along with it, as some of the younger girls had gathered sticks to use as imagined laser swords, pointing them at Din’s chest and throat.
    “Surrender!” A little hybrid girl squeaked out, one who would just barely be able to reach Din’s knee when he stood up. Her skin faded into blue around the edges of her face and ears, and thick black hair ran down in a braid along her back.
    “I yield, you’ve got me,” Din held his hands up. But soon enough they became bored of their little game, and sat in a circle around Din, asking for stories.
    “Hm. I think you’ve heard them all,” the Mandalorian king chuckled where he now sat cross legged, cape laid out beside him with a group of kids sitting on it. Another had leaned up against his opposite shoulder, and the little hybrid girl made herself at home perched on his lap. The cape was getting damp as some of the kids had been swimming, but Din either didn’t notice or didn’t care, and Omera would bet it was the latter.
    The kids finally convinced him and he was launching into a grand story involving a krayt dragon and a small town marshal. Omera’s eyes wandered, watching the garden for any disturbances, noting Koska and Kad snarking back and forth at one another in the distance.
    “ … and then it started going back in …” Din’s voice flowed through the garden, and it made her cheeks feel too warm. It made her whole body feel too warm, seeing this gentle nurturing side of him around kids, making her think of how he’d been when first meeting Winta, wondering if she would see more of it in the future.
    The sun had begun to say its goodbyes when Din finished the story off. The hybrid girl had fallen asleep against his chest, and a few more of the kids surrounding him weren’t far off from passing out as well. Din squeezed the shoulder of one of the foundlings using his cloak as a blanket, saying his goodbyes to small sounds of protest. He lifted the hybrid girl up with him, carefully, though she didn’t stir beyond pressing her face further into the space between his pauldron and chestplate.
    “I’ll take her, Mand’alor,” said the previously silent caretaker, reaching forwards. Din nodded, gently passing over the sleepy foundling.
    “How are things going?” Din asked the caretaker.
    “Well enough. We’ve had several more adoptions this week, and we’ve had two more come in, twin boys who lost their guardian to illness. They’re adjusting.”
    “Don’t let them be separated,” Din said softly.
    “Of course not. There’s plenty who are willing to take in both, Mand’alor,” the caretaker smiled, shrugging his shoulders. Din shook his hand, gripping at his forearm in thanks.
    “If they need anything -”
    “I’ll let you know,” the caregiver said, having heard the request many times before, but Din always felt the need to repeat it.
    “The foundlings are the future,” Din said quietly, and the caretaker nodded in agreement.
    “This is the way.”
-----------------
    “You are very focused on the foundlings,” Omera said when they found themselves alone after night had fallen. Kad stood guard outside Din’s chamber, and had only tilted his head in curiosity when Din had requested her inside.
    “They’re important,” Din shrugged, sitting down on one of the chairs by the fireplace, beginning to unclasp his boots.
    “They are,” Omera agreed, softly. “I’ve just noticed too - most of your personal guard is made up of foundlings.”
    Din paused at that, looking up at her. “I hadn’t realized.”
    “Hm, well. Koska, Myrah, and Paz are the only ones with Mandalorian blood parents. Though perhaps foundlings make some of the best warriors - eager to prove themselves,” she shrugged.
    “You can sit,” Din gestured beside him when he realized she was still standing. Omera did so while he launched a question at her. “Were you? Eager to prove yourself?”
    Omera hesitated. “In a way, yes. But I was just a baby, not even a toddler, when I was adopted by Clan Thorne. It was all I knew. I guess I did feel like I had to work harder for my place, with not being blood related, but they never made me feel like I didn’t belong. They trained me well and I worked hard but -” she hesitated. “I didn’t really start honing my skills, not truly, until after I was widowed,” she looked away.
    Din just listened, and she appreciated that. So often her telling of her past came to probing questions. While he did question her some, it was never past what she felt comfortable with. It was almost like he could read her.
    Leaning back against the chair, she slipped her helmet off, braid falling over her shoulder. She wiped her face and placed the helmet beside her chair, then looked over at him.
    “I tried to work twice as hard as anyone else in the Fighting Corps,” Din’s low voice rumbled. “Not just to prove myself, but … to forget, in a way. I finally got chewed out after fainting during a practice drill,” he chuckled. “The alor was not happy. That’s the day I was told that you could be as physically balanced as possible, but being balanced in spirit is just as important. I didn’t learn it until decades later, though.”
    She listened to his musings, sensing he needed to let some things out. Perhaps things he’d never told to anyone else, and it touched something within her to know that he wanted to share it with her.
    “Not until Grogu,” he added. His voice softened considerably at the mention of his foundling.
    “You miss him,” Omera noted the obvious. Din nodded.
    “I do,” he answered, his voice catching before he cleared his throat. He looked to the side, remaining silent for a moment before speaking again. “I would like … If we could- could spend more time, togeth- I mean, talking,” he stumbled. “Not while you’re on duty, I mean, just - just outside of all this,” he gestured vaguely at their surroundings. “I’d like to know … get to know Winta better,” Din looked down. Omera smiled and reached forward, putting a hand over his.
“She’d love that,” she acknowledged, “and I would too.”
Din hummed at that, then seemed to hesitate before leaning forwards. Omera quickly caught on, and she moved forwards to let him gently rest his helmet against her forehead.
“Cyar’ika,” she mumbled. Darling. Din made a small noise, like he’s sucked too much air in at once. His hand turned palm up to grip hers, squeezing.
“Gar gana ner karta,” he replied. You have my heart.
Mar'eyce: Summary
Mar'eyce (mah-RAY-shay): Discovery, something found at last, a state of heaven.
Din Djarin x Mandalorian OC (Kaiyah Awaud)
Tumblr media
The story of soulmates has been passed down for generations in the clans. When the Mando’ade swear their creed the Ka’ra pick another for you. Your “perfect half”, supposedly you know them through your shared scars.
For Din Djarin, it was always a legend, a myth. It wasn’t real, but then again, Jedi weren’t either.
For Kaiyah Awaud, the myth is real. Everyone has a soulmate, some believe it dictates standing in the clan.
When Din needs Mandalorians to help him on his quest to find The Child’s people, The Armorer tells Din about a rumored clan that might be able to help. When he gets there, he’s nothing like he’s expecting. The clan doesn’t cover their faces, they abide by soulmate laws, and their leader isn’t even leading. How are these zealots going to help him?
Kaiyah helps her buir, Kai, lead their people. She can’t do much else when she doesn’t have a soulmate. Rumors of her being dar’manda aren’t new, but with the added tension of Kai’s lack of leadership and flippancy for clan well-being, people are looking for an answer. Not to mention the influx of militant Mandalorian refugees from Nevarro.
Translations & Fun Facts:
-Mando'ade: Mandalorians. Lit. Children of Mandalore.
-Ka'ra: Star. Also, the ancient Mandalorian myth that the ruling council of fallen Mand'alors lived and guided the current leaders from the stars. When Mandalorians were more religious it was believed that the "cultural leaders", which I assume are clan leaders and the Mand'alors, would all go to the stars to sit in on the guiding council.
-buir: Parent. Since the word is for both mother and father, fathers would go by the first two or three letters of their name followed by -buir and mothers would go by just buir. Examples would be Sabine Wren's parents, her father, Alrich, going by 'Al-buir' while Ursa would just be 'buir'.
-dar'manda: State of not being a Mandalorian, but not an outsider. Someone who has lost their heritage, identity, and soul and dreaded by all Mandalorians.
-Clan Awaud does (kind of) exist in canon. They make their first and only canon appearance in "Friends Like These" a Fantasy Flight Star Wars table top RPG. Think D&D, but with Star Wars. In both Legends and canon they aided The Rebellion and resided on the planet Vlemoth Port. In Legends, they lived in a community called Arumorut on Vlemoth Port, meaning "home away from home", after they were exiled during the Mandalorian Civil Wars when the New Mandalorians took control of Mandalore around 42BBY.
Author's Note:
I'm very excited to get this started, I'm hoping the prologue and first chapter will be up this week! Keep an eye out for character backgrounds popping up as well, kind of a who is who of the story. This is really just an indulgent, I wanna be a Mandalorian when I grow up kinda story that I'm hoping we can all enjoy! There is no set schedule or tag list yet, just someone who apparently has too much time on their hands, apparently.
3 Mandos and a Baby AU: The Cadet Squad
Korkie: Duchess Satine’s son nephew and the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. Natural leader, charismatic, and also totally Force sensitive. Bo’s not sure if Korkie was Force sensitive in her first life, but she’s sure as hell he wasn’t so weird.
Korkie isn’t weird, he’s just being haunted by a bunch of dead folks. Jaster Mereel, Tarre Vizsla, Grandpappy Adonai Kryze, some dude named Myles that Jaster calls his son-in-law, and some old guy who just goes by 99, among others. His brain has a speed dial to the Manda and he just never explains it. Everyone but Fenn Rau think he’s at least a little crazy and talking to his imaginary friends, but as long as they give sound advice it’s all good.
Sometimes the voices give him the answers to dilemmas and shit, sometimes they lead him into trouble, sometimes they just guide him to plot conveniences, and every so often Tarre brings Korkie a baby man eating predator to keep as a pet. This is how Bo-Katan ended up with a strill (who I still need a name for!). We call these instances Deus Ex Korkie.
Amis: The impulsive one of the group. Took to explosives training like a duck to water. He gets too distracted while flying in combat situations so he’s a designated gunner. He struggles to turn in assignments on time–not because they’re too difficult, Amis is super intelligent–and he’s constantly suffering from severe executive disfunction. The boy sets alarms for everything, much to the consternation of his professors. Even with the alarms unless he has something to focus with, like music, he’ll forget what he’s supposed to be doing in five minutes.
He and Soniee are siblings! They were both adopted at they end of the Clan Wars, and then one of their parents died in a Death Watch bombing when they were like 5. So they were raised by a single buir. This might never come up or be relevant but their buir is a non-binary Miralukan.
Soniee: Our tech genius queen. If she wasn’t sent to the Academy she probably would have embarked on a campaign of cybercrime. Those were the only two options.
She’s Alrich’s favorite simply because they can both discuss art. Sure, he can also do that with Korkie, but discussing art with Korkie also means discussing art with a bunch of dead guys who may or may not be imaginary.
She runs an illicit gambling ring in the cafeteria where the currency of choice is muja fruit products. It’s totally not part of her 87-step plan to get Lagos to fall in love with her, the fact that muja fruit is Lagos’s favorite is a complete coincidence.
Lagos: Behold, our lady of common sense. She’s Ursa’s favorite simply because she’s the only one who, upon being given a spear to train with for the first time, didn’t almost immediately get themself killed. The others describe Lagos as “overly cautious”. Lagos would describe herself as “sane”.
She took to medic training like a Nabooian takes to child politicians. She’s a decently good sniper too, which makes Ursa so proud because Korkie and Amis seem to be incapable of watching their six and Soniee might honestly just let them get beat up if they’re running late with their muja fruit betting debts.
At a certain point her brain just starts to go into gay panic shutdown when she sees Soniee. They’re two useless gays your honor, and everyone but them can see it’s mutual. That is until crazy uncle Fenn goes and straight up tells them. Alrich is a bit annoyed because he had just popped another bag of bangcorn and now what’s he gonna do with it? Watch Fenn pine over Bo-Katan? That’s old news.
Alrich: He’s the cadet squad’s upperclassman advisor. He’s responsible for these idiots, which makes sneaking them out to train or for their verd’goten a lot easier. He also winds up getting invited to the palace a lot because Korkie’s mom aunt is just happy her strange boy is making friends. The minute he’s allowed to bring a plus one he brings Ursa, just to see what would happen (what happens is Satine likes Ursa better than him, and they both wind up feeling super guilty that they raised their daughter in a fashion that she named an anti-mando genocide device after this woman. She found the time to hand bake awesome cookies!)
3 Mandos and a Baby AU: The Aq Vetina Crisis
So, as previously discussed, in this AU Aq Vetina is a small colony world just off the Hydian Way under the authority of a Core world. Its distance from said Core world in addition to its lack of valuable resources means it tends to not be a priority.
When the CIS attacks the planet it’s the Mandalorians who save the day. It’s the Mandalorians who give the survivors much needed aid. And ultimately, it’s the Mandalorians who stay and help them rebuild. After all, this Korkie may be different than canon Korkie by virtue of how he was raised, but he is still fundamentally Satine’s boy. He can’t look at people in need and just turn his back on them, not when he’s in a position to help.
The highest ranking survivor of the old colony administration, Rhuya Kadjn, looks around at her people, looks at the Mando’ade helping to rebuild and taking in the many, many, orphans, and she makes a decision. About a month after the attack, a meeting is called of all the surviving adults of their little community. A vote is proposed, and a motion passes.
Approximately three days later Senator Culman Vald of the Jinata sector starts off the Senate session by reading out the ludicrous and offensive message it received from their colony world of Aq Vetina, declaring the planet’s independence from their overlords. The Senator says that the Jinata sector does not recognize the independence of their colony, and would like Republic help to retain control. After all, the system of Aq Vetina is right next to the Hydian Way, and a Republic presence there will further secure the hyperlane.
Senator Vel Batin of Mandalore immediately takes the stage, much to the annoyance of Mas Amedda. She doesn’t even bother trying to hide her smug grin as she reads out the official petition from Aq Vetina to join the Mandalore sector. A petition the Mand’alor is very willing to accept.
As you can expect, things spiral out of control from there and the Senate session ends with nothing much having gotten done and tempers flaring. More than usual for the Senate anyway.
Jinata is rich, powerful, and it’s full of Core-typical entitlement. Mandalore is Mandalore. Neither party is willing to back down, and it gets worse when the Vanquo system submits a similar declaration and petition, thus bringing the mining-focused Meerian sector to the table.
It’s now a full blown crisis, especially considering the locations of these two contested systems. If Mandalore was to acquire them they’d have a direct route to the main Hydian Way, instead of having to take the Mandalore Branch through Bandomeer. The Republic argues that granting the Mandalorians such a boon is an unacceptable security risk for it. Mandalore argues that the Republic’s inability to defend these planets is an unacceptable security risk to them.
There are three major reasons the Mandalorian government is pushing for this so hard.
For Satine, it’s a matter of commerce. The tariffs and tolls Mandalorian trade vessels have to pay just to get on the main hyperlane is ridiculous. Those fees were strangling their economy and seventeen years of negotiations had barely managed to knock a few credits off. She hopes it won’t come to war, and has full faith that Korkie chose the best moment to press this. It’s not likely that the Republic would risk a second war and lose a valuable ally in the process.
For Korkie, it’s the right thing to do. When he considered this course of action the world had brightened for a second, the Darksaber seemed to sing from its place on his hip, and for a moment when Adonai put his hand on his shoulder, Korkie could have swore he felt it. He thinks it’s the right decision when he attends the wedding of a Protector and one of the Aq Vetina survivors. He knows it’s the right decision every time he sees his little cousin, stuffed Mythosaur in one hand and the other in Aunt Bo’s or Uncle Fenn’s (not relevant at all but Alrich was the one to give baby Din the mythosaur toy).
For Bo-Katan and the rest of the time travelers, it’s about denying Palpatine a foothold. Thanks to the work they did – the spy games and the training and the final, bloody confrontation – it’s unlikely that there will ever need to be a Republic invasion of Mandalore, meaning their local Sith lord needs to find a new excuse to get troops near the planet. A garrison on Aq Vetina would be within the perfect distance to strike once the order came down, and they’re not about to let that happen. Mandalore is their home, and they’re not about to let it fall again.
Threats to blockade the Hydian Way start coming in from both sides, and the Republic sets up negotiations between them, with a neutral Republic team to handle mediations.
I think I’m gonna put that in a different post cause this one is getting too long for comfort + I’m sick and need a nap.
