urgentcare said i do NOT have a kidney infection which is? good news, i guess, but also i don’t totally trust them lol
#kat liveblogs her life#they said my blood test was in the normal range#but also the urine test wasn’t totally reliable bc i took over the counter meds last night#but like it could be that my normal average is lower than what i tested at so like it COULD be elevated for ME#but falling in the normal range for everyone else#she also said it was possible i was just in the early stages of an infection so the tests aren't super conclusive?#which i feel like might be the case that i got the first sign of back pain and immediately came to urgentcare today#anyway she gave me a prescription for the UTI and i will just be watching my symptoms for the next day or so#ALSO one time my friend went to urgentcare and they told her that she sprained her wrists#and months later she went to a different doctor bc they were still bothering her#which is when she found out that actually she BROKE her wrists#and she found this out when the doctor was like ‘for lack of a better word your bones are…crumbled’

So I got a kidney infection out of nowhere with no preceding bladder infection or UTI. On top of that I got FOUR canker sores in my mouth at the same time. AND a fever blister/cold sore.
Yep, this seems like the work of a healthy unstressed immune system (/s)! My irrational paranoia that the weird ass nurse who felt the need to point out we were in a high school class together somehow sabotaged my colonoscopy results bc we were in a religious class where I was vocal about gay rights seems less irrational by the day
#on top of that my seasonal allergies have been ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE THIS YEAR#im half joking about the nurse#i did think it was weird and insensitive to point out she knew me when she was about to witness my ass getting periscoped#but i dont really have any evidence or anything#i just find it extremely suspicious and strange that my colonoscopy showed NOTHING#when i was having hella symptoms and it seems to me my immune system is even now not doing great#i fear it might have had something to do with the yeast infection i got literally a week before the procedure#(ALSO MY FIRST EVER AND THAT I SUSPECT WAS THE RESULT OF IMMUNE DEFICIENCY)#and that somehow the medicine the doctor gave me for that affected the results#idk#there is something wrong with me and it's frustrating af to know i spent 1500 bucks to discover nothig#laylavents#also weird tho is that my urine test showed NO WHITE BLOOD CELLS OR ANYTHING#but my goated doctor gave me a short round of amox anyway bc hes awesome#and i know i had to have been right about it being an infection BC THEY WORKED#SO WHY DIDN'T ANYTHING SHOW UP#AM I JUST A CARRIER OF PHANTOM DISEASES???#also the amox worked but now im out and the tenderness is almost but not totally gone#i pray it doesnt relapse and in like three days i have to call the doc for more amoxicillin

SPOTLIGHT ON DIABETES SYMPTOMS: MAKING SENSE OF YOUR BODY’S DISTRESS SIGNALS
Preamble In the wild hustle and bustle of modern life, we often sweep our health concerns under the rug. Heck, who’s got the time to sweat the small stuff, right? But wait! It’s those tiny niggling signals that our bodies send us that we should be paying attention to. Among them are the warning bells of a widespread health menace—diabetes. This sneaky little bugger is a metabolic monster causing…

Low Spoons and Hygiene
Sometimes being disabled means struggling with hygiene and that can be embarrassing, even though it's not your fault or a reflection of you as a person. Nobody wants to be stinky or feel dirty, especially when a lot of illnesses and disabilities can entail symptoms like excessive sweating that can make the issue of struggling with hygiene a million times worse.
But smelling bad is the least of your worries, as poor hygiene can lead to things like skin infections. Bacteria and fungi like hanging around in stagnant, often damp areas that collect sweat. And most people have folds- even if just a little, which can be the ideal habitat for dangerous microorganisms. Not changing your underwear/bra or washing your body for an extended period can lead to things like jock itch, intertrigo, yeast infections, athlete's foot, UTIs (anyone can get one and they can spread to the kidneys within days or even hours- and you need those little guys!), all sorts of complications. The existence of foul or sometimes even a slightly "sweet" odor on your body or even in your urine tends to indicate the existence of bacteria (it's why armpits stink) or fungi like candida. Dental hygiene is equally important- an infected tooth or excessive cavities can be bad news. If you experience these things or struggle to regularly care for your body, it's not something to be ashamed of. All of those complications can and do happen to people who do everything right.
Note that issues like UTIs or dental infections don't tend to just go away on their own and need to be treated as urgently as possible.
However, I'll share some things that may prevent or remedy issues like infections and odor that's gotten out of hand and hopefully some may find this list helpful in some way. Any products I've listed may be found at other retailers or at different prices, they're just examples. Feel free to add on to it.
The bare minimum is always better than nothing. Brushing with just a dry toothbrush, using disposable body wipes or a washcloth/sponge instead of a shower, dry shampoo (the sprays are actually pretty bad for you, I'd stay away from those if possible), leave in conditioner, also whole body deodorant is a thing. If the most you can do is change your clothes- hell even just change your bra and/or underwear, it can be the one thing between you and an awful infection.
If infections are a concern, like if say you suffer from chronic UTIs or yeast infections it's advisable to wear breathable cotton underwear.
If you can't get up to brush your teeth or struggle to do so, it may be helpful to purchase disposable toothbrushes. These ones have floss picks attached.
Flossing is just as, if not more important than brushing. If you only have the energy to floss on some days, do that. If you need to keep floss picks and a place to dispose of them near your bed, then that's fine (just don't let it pile on without disposing of it and create a biohazard). it can help remove food particles that help create a breeding ground for bacteria. Also gently moving in and out between your teeth with slight movement if needed is ideal, don't roughly saw across your gums, ouch.
If you struggle with wiping say due to mobility issues, there are products for this. Wiping back to front as an alternative risks yeast infections and UTIs. It's a very common cause of these diseases due to bacteria like e-coli. We do not want that.
Crashing and can't wash your sheets? Out of shirts with no energy to do the laundry today? Antimicrobial fabric spray may help with the odor and bacteria that accumulates on fabric as a temporary fix until you can properly wash it. Try not to wear clothing or interact with fabrics like blankets and couches that are still wet from the spray, as that can irritate the skin.
Try to avoid "feminine wash" products if possible, you don't need the fancy Summer's Eve premium strawberry hibiscus blush scented whatever, it can fuck up your PH and kill good bacteria despite claims to do otherwise. Same with PH wipes. It's recommended not to use soap on your genitalia, especially scented and especially if you have a vagina. If you must use some sort of soap, dermatologists typically recommend the most basic, unscented wash. And do not put it in your body by any means.
Rinse free shower sponges have been a life saver for me, especially the ones that also work as shampoo (it's probably not color safe tho). You just add water, lather, and make sure you dry off well. If it helps you determine how much to buy, I normally find myself using maybe 3-5 sponges each time.
OTC jock itch cream can work for some fungal infections on the body not limited to jock itch but if you see no difference or worsening within a few days of using it, consult a dermatologist as you may need something different or stronger.
Unscented pads and tampons are best and should be changed every 4 hours or so ideally. Never leave a tampon in for over 8 hours. Despite common fears, 9 hours won't give you toxic shock syndrome, that normally takes a few days and is quite rare with tampons but that doesn't mean that 13 hours or something is good or safe. I've just heard some say that sex ed scared them away from tampons after being told stories of TSS. I hear that menstrual cups are also a great alternative that many don't consider.
Monistat and similar yeast infection products often come with different options like 3 day treatment, 5 day treatment, 7 day. I know you want to feel better ASAP, but just take into account that 3 day will be highly concentrated and can cause more burning than the 7 day. Longer treatment may also be more effective in some cases. Penile yeast infections exist as well. Just be aware that some products are more potent than others regardless of birth sex. Antifungals in general may cause itching and/or burning, which some are more sensitive to than others or may even find triggering in cases where it must be applied to the genitalia.
Hydrocortisone cream is your best friend if you're experiencing itchiness due to things like skin infections, contact dermatitis, yeast infections, etc. But please don't use it to mask the symptoms of an infection without treating it.
How frequently you need to wash your hair varies by hair type. This can vary between every 2 days for some and every 1-2 weeks for coily and textured hair. Make sure you look into what is ideal for your hair type. And again on days where you cannot wash, disposable sponges and dry shampoo can be a life saver.
If something is discolored, odorous, itchy, inflamed, bumpy, producing moisture, warm to the touch, oozy, weepy, splotchy, sticky, burning/painful, it may likely be an infection or in some cases an allergic reaction. Familiarize yourself with what different skin infections and diseases may look like on your skin tone. Ringworm and other fungal infections for instance may appear red or pink on fair or lighter brown skin, but on darker skin may appear gray or darker brown.
Fungal infections are also super fucking contagious. To other parts of your body, other people, even to pets. Wash your hands well with antibacterial soap, especially before and after applying any topical treatment or touching the area in any way. After a shower, PAT the infected area dry and do not reuse that towel or use on other parts of the body.
Invest in a shower chair if you feel it may help you, it's one of the best things I've ever bought. I didn't want to get one at first because it felt like I was "giving in" to my disability more and more but that's the internalized ableism talking. Get the shower chair.
A bar to help you stand from the toilet/tub/shower chair may also be helpful.
Again, feel free to add to the list if you want!

I saw a post circulating with common nonlethal injuries then I remembered I know medical stuff and like to do dangerous activities in the wilderness. Here’s some environmental hazards for your writing. This is for fiction purposes only and not real medical advice. I’m throwing more realistic but fun conditions that you commonly see if you hang out outside a lot. This got long and I talk gross medical stuff in a humorous way under the cut so ya know. Self-select.
Altitude Sickness- Causes dizziness, difficulty breathing, confusion, nausea, headache and fatigue. You treat by bringing this person back out of elevation and hydrating them. Can be caused easily above 6,000 feet of elevation or 1.83 km so if you characters are on a mountain it’s something that can be fun to take into consideration.
Dehydration or its cousin Hyponatremia- Essentially dehydration is cause by too little fluid and Hyponatremia is caused by too little salt. They have similar symptoms such as nausea, headache, dizziness, confusion. But the latter is caused by drinking way too much water and you need to eat salt to treat it. So uh don’t confuse the two…anyways if you’re mean you can mix and match with altitude sickness. (I don’t know if people still do this but don’t drink your own urine for any reason)
Snakes! Did you know snakes can either kill you really fast or….they’ll just really, really suck. Also don’t have your characters suck the venom out it does not work and that’s how we get infections. If it’s something like a pit viper you want antivenom and a doctor(or your fantasy equivalent)
Lightning-Causes fire in droughts and electrocution in wet. The safest place to stand in a storm is not in a cave if the floor is wet. The lightning will ricochet! Also tree shrapnel is a thing. Trees explode when hit by lightning. It’s cool when you’re not standing next to it.
Stinging nettle- This one’s fun because it’s a plant made of silica that breaks off in your skin. Causes a rash. It hurts. But if you break it right it makes tea.
My nemesis, poison oak(or ivy or sumac): This is an evil devil plant that most of us are allergic to but other animals can eat. Its Latin name means plant of many forms because it is everywhere all the time. It cannot be contained. What the fuck nature. It probably won’t kill you but it does need steroids when it’s on mucous membranes. Causes a rash and the oil cannot be washed off without soap. It itches like a motherfucker and if you get it in a cut or inhale it by accidentally burning it, it will cause a systemic reaction. Seek help.
Hypothermia-So like I know cuddling naked in a sleeping bag but really what needs to happen is feed this person a lot of calories and get them to exercise. Ya know. Depending on the tone. Mix and match with altitude sickness(I mean I’ve tried it don’t recommend but ya know it’s way more fun if it’s a fictional character)
Stinging/Biting insects- A lot of stings and bites are non-lethal if you don’t live in like fucking Australia. Scorpions tend not to kill, are just really painful and like to sleep in boots, and they glow in the dark. One time I dug into a hornet’s nest and got stung in the neck and ow ow ow but like I was fine but ow. There’s these insane insects in the Southeast U.S. that bur-you know what…
Unclean drinking water- Do you know what it’s like to not have clean drinking water? Do you know what horrors lurk below the surface? I do! Pathogens. They cause GI upset. Boil or filter your characters’ water. Or they get dehydrated(see above)
Trees: No joke the thing that actually scares me the most in the back country, far more than cougars or bears, are trees. They can drop branches as big as other trees called widowmakers(you can guess why). I’ve seen what looked like a perfectly healthy 70 ft tree come down and almost hit someone’s tent from a light breeze. One widowmaker was quite rude and hit my tent while I was sleeping.
Feral Horses: I am so serious. Horses are assholes. Like other ungulates they’re large and stupid and don’t have to give a damn because they’re bigger than you. They’re not majestic. Don’t pet them. I’m serious put your hand back in your pocket.
Rodents: I saw a raccoon steal a whole backpack of art supplies and squirrels eat through the wires in car engines cause the hoods were closed. Prairie dog fleas carry the bubonic plague. Turns out it’s easily treatable with modern antibiotics. All adorable. All insane.
Again, NOT SOUND MEDICAL ADVICE, I made way too many dumb jokes. If you’re curious go get some WFA training they’ll cover most of this. Some of it was found out the hard way.

Plants that unalive people.
Project 2025 (if it is voted in) will get rid of a woman's right to divorce her husband and her rights to her own body. This means we need to protect women from dangerous men. Here we go:
-Abrus Precatorius (Aka Crabs eye, rosary pea, Indian licorice, ect) causes vomiting, convulsions, liver failure, and death. Even one seed will cause it.
-Aconitum (Aka Wolfsbane, aconite, monkshood) causes disabled nerve endings, low blood pressure, cardiac irregularities, vomiting, and of course death.
-Actaea Pachypoda (Aka dolls eyes, or white baneberry) which basically paralyzes the cardiac muscles, not always deadly.
-Ageratina Altissima (Aka white snakeroot, white sanicle, richweed) causes milk sickness, which if you don't know it causes significant weightloss, polydipsia, vomiting, appetite loss, difficulty standing/walking, coma, and then death. Death occurs 2-10 days after eating it.
-Arnica Montana (Aka mountain tobacco, leopards bane, Mountain Arnica) causes bleeding in the intestinal tract, inflammation of the liver, paranoia, accelerated heart rate, muscular weakness, and death. Though a lot of the seeds/plant need to be digested for it to kill, though little amounts for long enough time can cause cancer.
-My personal favorite,Atropa Belladonna (Aka deadly nightshade) it's a long list but it causes: dilated pupils, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, slurred speech, dry throat and mouth, tachycardia, loss of balance, staggering, headache, urinary retention, constipation, confusion, delusions, hallucinations, convulsions, necrosis(limb death), paralysis, and death.
-Brugmansia (Aka angels trumpet(cause you will see the lord)) causes hallucinations and losing connection with reality. Not 100% deadly by itself but causes severe paranoia, hallucinated pain, and delusions. The most notable case of Angel's trumpet is a young man self amputating his leg with pruning shears after consuming the tea of just two flowers, he died.
-Caltha Palustris (Aka marsh-marigold, kingcup) causes convulsions, burning of the throat, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, dizziness, fainting, blisters, inflammation, gastric illnesses, and patients usually die to the symptoms.
-Cerbera Odollam (suicide tree) the one just kills you within a few minutes, muted taste, undetectable in autopsies, and can't be treated once consumed.
-Chelidomium Majus (Aka Greater Celandine) this one also just kills you, but you need at least 18mg per kilogram of body weight, so a 50kg (110lbs) person needs at least 900mg to kill them.
-Cicuta (Aka water hemlock, cows bane, wild carrot, snake weed, poison parsnip, child's bane) this one causes just over and over seizures until death. Can't be treated.
-Colchicum Autumnale (Aka Autum Corocus, Meadow Saffron) causes burning in mouth and throat, fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, kidney failure, multiple system organ failure, hypovolemic shock, fluid loss, damage to the gi tract, bloody urine, low white blood cell count (damages the bodies ability to fight off infections), anemia, muscular weakness, respiratory failure, and death. Death occurs in 42-74hrs from consumption.
-Another one of my favorites, Conium Maculatum (Aka Hemlock, spotted parsley, spotted cowbane) for the following symptoms to occur you need to consume at least 6-8 leaves or half a gram of the roots. Symptoms include but not limited to, necrosis (limb death) within 30 minutes of initial dose, and paralysis of lungs, this causes suffocation within the hour.
I'll make a pt. 2 later.

What are the Most Common Urological Problems Affecting Men?
One of the commonly observed medical issues with both men and women across the globe is connected with Urology. Renowned Urology Specialists in Bangalore working with United Hospital explains that these problems can come up due to advancing age or any other underlying health condition, irrespective of age.
It is widely observed that most men experience difficulties such as inconsistent urination, frequent urges to urinate, or passing less urine than desired.
Experts educate us on the common Urological Disorders in Men.
Stress Incontinence
Urology specialists associated with United Hospital define stress incontinence as a condition which results in unintentional loss of urine. This condition worsens with age and is also caused due to obesity. Treating this condition requires a measured approach and early diagnosis.
Overactive Bladder
High blood sugar levels can put people at risk of developing an overactive bladder. Additionally, weak bladder muscles can also cause this condition. Usually, people with an overactive bladder feel the sudden urge to urinate which can become hard to control.
Urinary Tract Infection
This is a common type of urological condition which can impact the entire Urinary Tract System consisting of Kidney, Urethra, Bladder and Ureter. This condition can assume serious proportions if not treated immediately as it is a bacteria-induced infection
Enlarged Prostate
This condition is very commonly observed in men. Enlarged Prostate can lead to blockage in the smooth flow of urine. Depending upon the seriousness of the condition your urologist might recommend the right treatment.
Kidney Stones
The impact caused by Kidney Stones can be really painful. They are hard stones that can develop in various sizes and can grow on to block the smooth flow of urine out of the body. Any symptom relating to the possibility of a stone should never be ignored. Urological Disorder Symptoms may look unthreatening to begin with but can quickly turn to a more serious condition if not attended to at the right time. Hence, it is advisable not to self- medicate and get in touch with the best urology specialist immediately.

Seeing as so many people seemed to find my post about the "lesser used causes of delirium" interesting I thought I might do a similar one about fever.
So I read a LOT of sick fics -it's a problem. And I would say that fever is probably one of the most commonly used sickness/illness symptoms in them. Which makes sense - fever is fascinating and can have so many complex and interesting effects on the whumpee.
However, I’ve noticed that in most fics, fever is typically caused by infections or illnesses such as the flu. And in away this is a sahame because there are SO MANYU other, less frequently explored, causes of fever. Several of which could add a good deal of tension if Caretaker doesn't fully understand it and tries to treat it like an infection or flu.
For instance, I think I;ve seen psychogenic used maybe twice. Heatstroke is depicted more often, but many people might not realize that it falls under the fever umbrella. So on that basis, let's start with a definition of fever and then explore some of these lesser-used causes.
Fever, or pyrexia, is a temporary increase in body temperature, often due to an illness.
A fever is usually considered to be a body temperature above 38°C (100.4°F).
Environmental Causes:
Hypothermia-Induced Fever
Heatstroke
Definition: Paradoxical fever can occur during the rewarming process after hypothermia, where the body temperature temporarily spikes.
Symptoms: confusion, shivering, and a transient increase in body temperature. This response requires careful monitoring and gradual rewarming techniques to prevent complications.
Definition: Heatstroke is a severe form of hyperthermia, where the body’s temperature regulation fails due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, leading to a dangerously high body temperature.
Symptoms: confusion, altered mental state, slurred speech, hot and dry skin, and possibly unconsciousness. If not treated promptly, heatstroke can be life-threatening.
Drug-Induced Fever
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome
Definition: Drug-induced fever occurs when a medication causes an increase in body temperature. This can happen due to various mechanisms, such as an allergic reaction, the drug itself having fever as a side effect, or through drug interactions.
Symptoms: high temperature that does not respond to standard fever-reducing treatments, rash, swelling, and other allergic reaction signs. Identifying the offending drug can be challenging, especially if the patient is on multiple medications.
Serotonin Syndrome
Definition: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but serious reaction to antipsychotic medications, characterized by fever, muscle rigidity, and altered mental status.
Symptoms: high fever, severe muscle stiffness, altered mental status, and autonomic dysfunction such as irregular heart rate or blood pressure. Prompt recognition and discontinuation of the offending drug, along with supportive treatment, are essential to prevent serious complications or death.
Malignant Hyperthermia
Definition: Serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition resulting from an excess of serotonin in the central nervous system, often due to drug interactions or overdose of serotonergic medications.
Symptoms: high fever, agitation, increased reflexes, tremor, sweating, dilated pupils, and diarrhea. Severe cases can lead to seizures, irregular heartbeat, and unconsciousness. Treatment involves discontinuing the causative agents and providing supportive care to manage symptoms.
Definition: Malignant hyperthermia is a rare but life-threatening reaction to certain anesthesia drugs, causing a rapid increase in body temperature and severe muscle contractions.
Symptoms: a sudden and severe increase in body temperature, muscle rigidity, tachycardia, and dark brown urine. Immediate treatment with dantrolene and supportive measures is crucial to prevent serious complications or death.
Endocrine Disorders:
Adrenal Crisis
Thyroid Storm
Definition: An adrenal crisis occurs when the body produces insufficient cortisol due to adrenal insufficiency or Addison’s disease.
Symptoms: high fever, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, confusion, low blood pressure, and shock. Immediate treatment with corticosteroids and fluid replacement is crucial to avoid life-threatening complications.
Definition: A thyroid storm is a rare but severe complication of hyperthyroidism, where an excessive amount of thyroid hormone leads to a dramatic increase in metabolic rate and body temperature.
Symptoms: a high fever, rapid heart rate, agitation, delirium, and potentially life-threatening cardiovascular complications. Treatment requires aggressive management of thyroid hormone levels and supportive care.
Inflammatory Diseases:
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Vasculitis
Definition: Systemic inflammation from conditions like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
Symptome: Persistent fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue, specific organ/system-related signs; managing the underlying condition helps control fever.
Definition: Inflammation of blood vessels causing systemic inflammation.
Symptoms: Persistent fever, organ-specific symptoms; treatment involves managing the underlying inflammatory process.
Autoimmune Disorders:
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus)
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Definition: Autoimmune disorder causing inflammation and tissue damage.
Symptoms: Joint pain, swelling, fatigue, persistent fever; symptoms vary widely and fever often fluctuates with disease activity.
Definition: Autoimmune disorder affecting joints.
Effects: Joint pain, swelling, fatigue, persistent fever; management of underlying disease helps control fever.
Psychogenic Fever
Definition: Psychogenic fever is a stress-induced condition where emotional stress or psychological factors lead to an elevated body temperature.
Symptom: a sudden increase in body temperature during or after stressful events, with no underlying infection or physical cause. It can be persistent and resistant to conventional fever treatments. This type of fever can create compelling narrative tension, as it highlights the interplay between mind and body.
As usual this is far from an exhaustive list, more a jumping off or starting point I guess.
Symptoms of Fever
Fever can present with a variety of symptoms, which can be broadly categorized into general, specific, and severe symptoms:
General Symptoms:
Elevated Body Temperature: The hallmark of fever is an increase in body temperature above the normal range (typically above 38°C or 100.4°F).
Sweating: As the body attempts to cool down, excessive sweating is common.
Chills and Shivering: Despite the high body temperature, individuals may feel cold and experience shivering.
Headache: A common symptom due to the body's inflammatory response.
Muscle Aches: Myalgia or generalized muscle pain can accompany fever.
Fatigue and Weakness: The body's increased metabolic rate can lead to significant fatigue and a general feeling of weakness.
Loss of Appetite: Anorexia is often seen with fever as the body's digestive processes slow down.
Specific Symptoms:
Dehydration: High temperatures can lead to significant fluid loss through sweating.
Rapid Heart Rate (Tachycardia): The heart works harder to circulate blood and dissipate heat.
Rapid Breathing (Tachypnea): Increased respiratory rate helps in heat dissipation.
Flushed Skin: The skin may appear red and warm due to increased blood flow.
Irritability: Particularly in children, fever can cause increased irritability and fussiness.
Reduced Urine Output: Dehydration can lead to oliguria (reduced urine output).
Severe Symptoms:
Confusion and Delirium: High fevers can lead to altered mental states, confusion, and even delirium.
Seizures: Febrile seizures can occur, especially in young children.
Hallucinations: Severe fevers can cause hallucinations or vivid dreams.
Unconsciousness: In extreme cases, high fever can lead to loss of consciousness.
Severe Dehydration: If not managed properly, dehydration can become life-threatening.
Organ Failure: Prolonged high fever can lead to multi-organ dysfunction or failure.
Possible Effects of Fever
Physiological Effects:
Psychological Effects:
Increased Metabolism: Fever increases metabolic rate, leading to greater energy expenditure and nutrient use.
Immune Response Activation: Fever often indicates an active immune response, with increased production of white blood cells and antibodies.
Protein Denaturation: Extremely high fevers can cause proteins to denature, impacting cellular function.
Electrolyte Imbalance: Increased sweating and fluid loss can lead to imbalances in electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and chloride.
Altered Mental Status: Fever can impact cognitive functions, causing confusion, memory disturbances, and impaired judgment.
Anxiety: Persistent high fever can cause significant anxiety and distress in both the patient and caregivers.
Stress: The physical discomfort and potential complications associated with fever can lead to increased stress levels.
Sleep Disturbances: Fever can disrupt normal sleep patterns, leading to insomnia or frequent waking.
Managing Fever
General Management:
Specific Management:
Hydration: Ensuring adequate fluid intake to prevent dehydration.
Rest: Allowing the body to conserve energy and focus on fighting the underlying cause of the fever.
Cooling Measures: Using cool compresses, tepid baths, or fans to help lower body temperature.
Antipyretics: Medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce fever and alleviate discomfort.
Monitoring: Regularly checking temperature and observing for any signs of worsening condition or complications.
Identifying and Treating Underlying Cause: Addressing the root cause of the fever, whether it’s an infection, drug reaction, or other medical condition.
Medications: Depending on the cause, antibiotics, antivirals, corticosteroids, or other specific treatments may be required.
Supportive Care: Providing additional support such as oxygen, IV fluids, or mechanical ventilation in severe cases.

hi, i'm a young cis woman w/o a known hormonal disorder who is suddenly getting less discharge than normal (without a bad smell), and my vulva is irritated. unfortunately i am in a country where the medical system is burning to the ground, id probably have to pay for a fancy private practice to get medical advice. which id prefer not to if necessary.
im pretty sure i dont have an std, i only ever have sex with one guy who was a virgin before me & we are exclusive. could this be a yeast infection? or do i just start putting lube on that shit to keep it moist? try to get some off-label estrogen cream for down there (or is that only effective for trans guys)?
hi anon,
a yeast infection isn't impossible, although the lack of discharge and painful urination make it hard to be certain. without any other symptoms, it's entirely possible that you're just a bit dry in your vulvovaginal region.
a little moisturization sounds like a great start. some lube would be a good choice, as you said, or a product like vagisil that's specifically designed to be a vaginal moisturizer. even some fragrance free lotion patted gently onto the vulva can do in a pinch. topical estrogen cream could also be an option if you can acquire it, it's certainly not just for trans men - the exact same product is often prescribed to cisgender women when they go through menopause, which affects the vagina in many ways that are strikingly similar to testosterone-based HRT.
if an over the counter moisturizer doesn't bring you any relief, I'd definitely say it's time to check in with a healthcare provider if possible.

❥𓂃𓏧 Feel My Touch
𖦹Warnings: Gyno!Nanami x Fem!Reader, p in v sex, Oral sex (fem receiving), fingering, mention of spit, pet names (reader is called beautiful), Squirting, Multiple Orgasms, Overstimulation, Choking

🫧: So because of my job and random ass hours my upload days are Saturday. I’m working on my SDV fics too ʕ-᷅ᴥ-᷄ʔ.Btw this is barely edited so sorry for any mistakes
ᐕSummary: You’ve never experienced an orgasm but a new doctor has you feeling new things…
Beads of sweat threatened to slide down your temples as you waited. Anticipating that new nerve riling sensation that’s been eating at your lower abdomen for the past week. When you first felt it you assumed it was one of those normal infections women usually get. But the symptoms weren’t the same in the slightest. There was no itching, burning while urinating or thick white substance. This feeling was foreign and indescribable.
Your ears perked as you heard your name being called. The lady flashed a smile, her short brown hair pulled back, “right this way.” She led you to one of the rooms further to the back and passed you a gown that was commonly used in hospitals, “change into this and the doctor will be in shortly to assist you.”
You sent her a curt nod and a smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes, “thank you.”
Once the door clicked shut an eerie silence you were used to fell over the room. You stripped down to your skin, stuck your arms through the sleeves and tied a bow with the loose strings. Music blasted through the speaker of your phone from the tiktok videos. Minutes passed, longer than you expected, before three knocks echoed in the room and your posture straightened.
“Good evening,” Nanami smiled.
One glance at him and that feeling. That fucking feeling hammered throughout your body. Stronger than you’ve ever felt. Traveling from your quick beating heart all the way to your cunt. Your hand absentmindedly touched your belly attempting to pinpoint this emotion, “hi.”
“______ ______ right?” He closed the door behind him and sat in the round rolling seat, “Dr. Nanami, nice to meet you.”
“Where is Dr. Shoko? I made an appointment with her.”
His eyebrows twitched as he refrained from saying what really came to mind first, “she asked me last minute to stand in for her for more hands-on experience as I am no longer training under her. Shoko claimed to have sent an email to all of her patients last night.”
You grimaced internally knowing it was mixed in with the other hundreds of unopened emails, “oh..”
“For obvious reasons if you don’t wish to continue with this appointment that’s completely understandable and you’ll be refunded in full.”
“That’s okay I don’t mind,” you said, unable to look away from his breathtaking features. You attempted to partially explain how you felt without tripping over your words and stuttering. Yet there was no luck in that department.
He stood to lean your seat back, “are you pregnant or think you might be?”
“No.”
“Have a husband or partner?” His eyes shot to your ringless finger.
“Single.”
“Now ____ when was the last time you’ve had sex?” He guided your legs apart, securing each calf in the raised holders. He couldn’t stop his eyes from wondering low enough to see the slick on your thighs.
Your hands rubbed you eyes, which he was thankful for, as you answered the question, “bout eight years ago..I think…I’m not quite sure it was one time with one guy and I didn’t really enjoy it.” Which was true. The guy who’s name you didn’t care to remember snuck you to one of the rooms during a house party full of drunks. The only reason you agreed to lose it was because you wanted to see what the hype was about. Why all your friends enjoyed fucking people.
Nanami passed you a square hand sized mirror, “according to Shoko all of your tests from last month came back clear and it says you scheduled due to odd sensations, tell me what’s going on with that.”
Your eyes hit the ceiling and you took a deep breath, “it’s complicated. There’s this clear liquid that keeps coming out and a strange feeling down there. It aches but not in a painful way. It's gonna sound weird but it kind of feels good.” The doctor sat quietly.
assessing maybe?
“I can explain but I need you to hold the mirror so you can see what I’m doing..I like for new patients to watch so they have a better understanding.” Gloved hands snaked to your hips pulling you lower. His thumbs rubbed up and down your spread lips smearing the essence around and stopping before your clit. A low hum of pleasure escaped, causing you to cover your mouth. “It’s fine to make noise, it's normal..no one will hear you except me.”
“What is that?” a thin glistening line connected to your body and his finger.
“Arousal,” his middle finger rubbed circles on your clit, “that sensation you keep feeling. Sometimes it’s for no reason, other times it’s because you come across something or someone you find sexually desirable. Miss._____ ,” your pussy clenched around nothing and you sucked in a hard breath, “do I happen to suit your taste?” You nodded knowing a moan was at the tip of your tongue. “That’s very good, because you suit mine.”
“That feels really n-nice.”
The wheels on the chair inched him close enough that you felt his breath on your messy cunt. Removing his gloves he worked two fingers into you, watching them disappear slowly. His other hand pawed at the growing tent of his pants, “do you ever pleasure yourself?”
“N-no,” you hummed, “I d-don’t know h-how never tried.”
The corner of his lips rose ever so slightly. One blink and you would miss it, “There’s different ways to go about it. A lot of women like to finger themselves like this,” he pulled his hand back and drilled them in deep. Curling the tips in the process. Your moans drowned out the white noise from the old office light above head. Nanami’s thumb met your clit again, finding the pace that made your eyes roll to the back of your sockets. A white cream gathered in the nook of his digits.
“What,” you tried to catch your breath, “what the fuck was that what just happened?”
“That was an orgasm,” he pushed the ugly gown higher, “do you need some water we still have a few more things to go over?” His mouth wrapped around his fingers licking them clean.
“No,” you spat wanting nothing more than his hands all over you. Wanting him all over you.
He chuckled, “another way you could do it is oral sex. Even if you don’t have a partner to perform it on you there are toys designed for this purpose.” Nanami released his erection smearing his precum round his tip. From the mirror you watched him touch himself. God did you have the perfect angle. Spit fell from his mouth straight to his pretty cock head and his pale hand pumped agonizingly slow.
“Doctor,” you whispered not expecting him to hear you. His blond locs were the last thing you saw before his lips were latched on your pussy. Devouring every last drop. He moaned as your cold fingers ruined his neat hair. “Just like t-that Nanami,” your hips were uncontrollably grinding into his tongue. The last guy didn’t try this but merely pounded your pussy sloppily only caring to get himself off.
Sweat gathered at your hairline and your heart quickened. A coil formed and only grew tighter as Nanami sucked your clit. He gripped the base of dick stopping his pace altogether. He picked up all the indicators that you were so so close to cuming for him. And he wanted to time it perfectly. “Fuckkk Nanamiii,” your body tensed and accidentally scrunched up his hair a grip too tight. He let out a deep long moan that pushed you over the edge. Your cum coated the inside of the doctor's mouth making his eyes widen. Globs of his release splattered on the floor. More than he has seen in a while.
Nanami rose to his feet, planting a foot on a protruding part of the chair. To his advantage the medical seat was low enough to align his dick to you. His cock slid between your saturated folds milking the last couple droplets of his pleasure.
“The last way,” he grunted, “dildo’s but nothing beats the real thing. May I?”
“Put it in,” you stopped short of begging for him to fuck you. It slipped in with more ease than you expected despite his size. His hands felt up every inch of your body making sure not to miss a spot. He hunched over and slipped his tongue in your mouth relishing in the remnants of yourself.
Nanami’s teeth grazed down your chest, “did he feel this good fucking you? Did he touch you the way I did?”
“Uh uh,” you writhed under him, holding on to his white jacket as his hips bucked into yours. He pushed deeper, holding himself in place. He was getting close to cuming again. Too close. And by the way you were wrapping around him he wanted to last as long as possible with you. A caressing hand stroked your cheek then slid down to your neck. Your eyes filled with white for the third time. Though you pushed him weakly he pulled out completely. Watching in absolute bliss as you squirted all over him and leaving visible wet marks on his light colored clothing.
His mouth hung open in amusement. He’s never hooked up with a woman who squirts only dreamed of it. And how he felt so foolish to think you’d last long after never experiencing an orgasm. To hell with making himself last.
“So fuckin beautiful,” he said before choking you, sliding his cock into your gushing cunt. He fucked himself so deep in your pussy the only way to move was back. Retracting his hips he pounded quick but it was enough to send you into overdrive. Squealing from the overstimulation. “Squeeze it beautiful,” he panted through the strokes. You did so and in an instant you felt his dick emptying itself. Neither of you moved for a minute or two until he placed a gentle kiss on your cheek. He sat up fixing the both of you before pulling a clipboard off the small desk.
“Miss._____ I’m going to schedule you for another visit in exactly two weeks from today for…some test.”

I don't write a lot if these kinds of posts but I had a bit of a health scare this past week. I'll preface and say that I'm doing better.
Maybe this will help someone recognize symptoms a bit better than I did, because it really could have gone horribly wrong.
I have several medical issues, including an autoimmune condition called SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) which I've had for a long time and is well managed. I also used to work in the medical field, and know my body fairly well. As with many people that have lupus, I unfortunately am a bit jaded with certain symptoms because it's always, is it just your lupus or is it something you should go to the doctor for? Because honestly, I've gone to the doctor so often only to hear, yup, lupus.
That being said, my meds make me susceptible to catching every little thing that goes around.
So when I woke up with a stomach ache, I was just like great, a stomach bug. It kept getting worse. Knew it wasn't appendicitis because it was literally my stomach cramping.
It got so bad that I was like I have to go to the hospital because it was literally radiating to my back and I couldn't stand up straight.
It wasn't until I was at the hospital, where they at first assumed it was the stomach flu, that I mentioned the pain in my back too, where they took me seriously. Thought it was my gall bladder (mine was removed). And then mentioned pancreatitis.
I mean I know of it. But I've never seen a case except in a dog. Never thought about it. So blood tests, ultrasound, other tests ensued.
Of course me on google, researching. And then the 40 percent mortality rate in combination with lupus jumped out at me. It's been a rare thing where I've ever been confronted with something so serious. My labs looked too good, Ive had that happen so often in my life. My labs are good till they aren't. I was sent home, with pain meds, waiting on other labs. I finally got clearance yesterday. It's not pancreatitis. I have blood and protein in my urine, nothing new, and although a kidney infection sounds scary it's familiar territory. Still not sure why my stomach was affected. No one knows, mysteries of life.
Everyone knows certain symptoms, like if your right side hurts, could be appendicitis. Medical emergency.
No one talks about pancreatitis though, the symptoms or that it can be literally life threatening too. So consider this my little PSA. I might not have actually had this, but the scare is enough for a lifetime.
Take care out there everyone and stay healthy.

TYPE ONE DIABETIC RANTS ABOUT WELCOME TO RAVEN BROOKS
You guys may or may not know that in May I praised the show for having accurate diabetes representation???
THEY RUINED IT IN THE FIRST TWO FUCKING EPISODES!!
Hyperglycemia (which is what she was going through because she ate regular cookies with sugar in them) takes a LONG time to set in and is VERY preventable by checking blood sugars and injecting with insulin (which we never fucking see). The symptoms are usually:
Urinating large amounts
Excessive thirst
Feeling tired
Frequent hunger
Dry mouth
Weight loss
Blurred vision
Recurrent infections (e.g., urinary infections, skin infections)
Wounds (cuts, scrapes) that heal slowly
Diabetic Ketoacidosis (which is when the body is in hyperglycemia for an extended amount of time) has these symptoms:
Deep, rapid breathing
Fruity-smelling breath
Headache
Nausea and vomiting
Stomach pain
Change in mental status
Loss of consciousness, coma
The worst that should've happened to Trinity was probably wanting to drink lots of water, not going into a fucking coma!
The only way she would've gone into a coma that quickly is if she was in hypoglycemia (low sugar) which has the following symptoms:
Looking pale
Shakiness
Sweating
Headache
Hunger or nausea
An irregular or fast heartbeat
Fatigue
Irritability or anxiety
Difficulty concentrating
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Tingling or numbness of the lips, tongue or cheek
Confusion, unusual behaviour or both, such as the inability to complete routine tasks
Loss of coordination
Slurred speech
Blurry vision or tunnel vision
Nightmares, if asleep
Unresponsiveness (loss of consciousness)
Seizures
These symptoms align WAY more than hyperglycemia.
She had a seizure, went into a coma and had a nightmare. WHICH ARE SYMPTOMS OF HYPOGLYCEMIA.
THEY SAID SHE WENT INTO HYPOGLYCEMIA BUT SHE HAD HIGH BLOOD SUGARS WHAT THE FUCK. STOP USING THE WRONG TERMINOLOGY!!!

As of October 15, 2024, CDC has released more than half of the anticipated 7.8 million entries of V-safe free-text entries. ICAN’s analysis of the entries released so far reveals almost 12,000 reports of kidney pain, kidney stones, or kidney infections.
As many of you already know, V-safe was developed by CDC for individuals to report symptoms after COVID-19 vaccination. This month, we decided to look at V-safe reports of kidney issues.
We know from other vaccines that vaccination can negatively affect kidney function, causing harm far from the injection site. Sadly, it doesn’t occur to most people that an injection in their arm can harm a distant system of their body. But as ICAN has reported again and again, all body systems can be impacted by vaccination.
A 2024 study found a “strong causal relationship” between COVID-19 vaccination and kidney diseases such as acute interstitial nephritis (inflammation of kidneys) and podocytopathy (injury to special cells in the kidney). A 2022 study found a correlation between acute kidney injury (AKI) and COVID-19 vaccination and that “AKI following the COVID-19 vaccines led to poor prognosis, with 19.78% death in the Pfizer-BNT group, 17.78% in MODERNA, and 12.36% in JANSSEN.”
The V-safe app entries—most made in just the first few days and weeks following vaccination—reveal many reports of kidney pain, the abrupt development of kidney stones, and hospitalization for kidney infections. Here are a few examples:
“Infection of Kidneys and UTI. Blood in urine and kidney stone on left kidney.”
“I’m in the hospital right now Because I’m still peeing blood they think it’s kidney stones.”
“Kidney stone requiring emergency surgery, ureteral stent placement and subsequent removal; UTI.”
“Intermittent stabbing, pulsing pain around left kidney.”
“Severe flank pain (I think it’s a kidney stone) I’m in the ER”
“Diagnosis with new onset kidney stone”
“Severe kidney infection back pain fever”
Readers will not be surprised to learn CDC doesn’t recognize kidney issues as adverse events related to COVID-19 vaccination, despite CDC’s access to this same V-safe data in real time as the vaccines were rolled out. ICAN will continue to do CDC’s job for it and bring attention to these dangerous and sometimes life-threatening conditions.
