Fixation Central
Anyone who follows my blog knows I am auDHD and I fixate extremely fast. I am constantly frothing at the mouth with how much I adore certain fandoms. Most of what I'm into right now is superhero cartoons, but my journey with two of my first ever fandoms: Scooby Doo and Harry Potter.
I've 'left' Harry Potter, but that's because I made my own canon lmao. Or attempted to, at least-
It has long since branched off and my honorary fixations include Gravity Falls, Warrior Cats, PJO, and Doctor Who. And yes, I did also have problematic fixations - let yourself be cringe; if you want to enjoy DSMP, Homestuck, ATLA, or anything in between - do it. I was only part of one of these though. All fandoms have their toxicity, and in the end... make your own fucking canon. Problem solved.
Though, now... it's time to talk about what I like now and the ones I never truly left so without much further ado - let's get on with it!
Read below the cut for the rest!
The Fixations That Just Stayed
Gravity Falls (joined the fandom late, ended up being the creator of multiple original AU's and adored the Pines family dynamics; would've wanted to see something actually used with the Cipher/Zodiac Wheel)
Warrior Cats (never finished the books, unapologetic Firestar fan - first fandom I ever roleplayed and had an OC named Dawnheart of all things)
Doctor Who (adore New Who, loved all companions and thought more could've been done with Martha; huge Riverdoc fan, Donna is my favorite companion - was obsessed with the Pandorica arc for literally no reason; actually enjoyed the Timeless Child reveal)
Scooby Doo (on-off fixation, made up Scooby Doo AU's and crossovers for a lot of my fandoms-)
Current Fixations
Danny Phantom (literally what started my superhero cartoon fixation; adores Everlasting Trio - Sam bashing is irritating I'm ngl, also platonic Badger Cereal is one of my favorite things; has made ghost king and TUE AU's, among other things)
RC9GN (Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja) (never watched it as a kid afaik; huge Randy Cunningham kin, kickstarted my Secret Trio fixation - multishipper for the fandom)
Wordgirl (nostalgia fixation, watched few episodes as a kid but came to love it as an adult; adoptive villains apologist, obsessed with the Rise of Miss Power episodes; Becky Botsford and Tobey McCallister kin, a lot more thoughts but I can't list them all down-)
K-Dramas (kind of picky with them, anything high-drive/action are my favorites; adores Vincenzo and Descendants of the Sun. Taxi Driver was also a fun ride, among others)
AU's and Crossovers Hoard
Secret Trio/Quartet (American Dragon: Jake Long, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, and Danny Phantom + bonus appearances from Miraculous Ladybug) (massive fixation, currently being worked on as a fanfiction series on Ao3 - post canon/future au timelines, darker depictions than their given canon)
Superwholock and Co (Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock) (original crossover I ever got into; adores crossovers with Merlin)
Mystery Kids (crossover between Coraline, Paranorman, Gravity Falls, and Danny Phantom - as I've never seen/played Psychonauts) (first of the crossovers as well, was a casual fan in the beginning - currently also being worked on as a fanfiction)
Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons (Rise of the Guardians, Brave, Tangled, and How to Train Your Dragon) (the OG, attempted to make an LPS series for it as a kid; adored any plotlines with Pitch Black - the four being New Guardians of the Seasons? chef's kiss)
DP x DC (personal favorite, i like the Vibes)
Personal Hoard
Totally Spies/Glitch Techs (made it up like Right Now; very behind on Glitch Techs but still-)
RC9GN/Wordgirl
C:KND/RC9GN (Codename: Kids Next Door/Randy Cunningham) (original creator; former KND operative Randy Cunningham becomes the Ninja, what could possibly go wrong?)
Project Zero: Heroes United (expanded Secret Trio/Quartet universe) ("Heroes Cinematic Universe" multi-fandom au where superheroes of different cartoons are selected to be an elite team against evil)
Once Upon in Camelot (OUAT/Once Upon a Time and Merlin) (abandoned project, might return to it; crossover/au where BBC! Arthurian cast are reincarnated following the S4 finale - exception being Merlin, shenanigans ensue; post-canon arc, Merthur storyline)
Other projects will be brought up later so if anyone's curious, interact with this post! Likes are appreciated, but comments and reblogs are preferred! Meows.
independent fandom AU's (i.e. Reverse Falls) will not be included within this post! I will be linking that separately!

Gage: four foot six bunny man with nostalgic clothes for our creator, also owns his middle name
Lynn: You're just listing out traits? That's why we're standing in a line?
Gage: five foot six, FemGoat, a truly creative expression.
FemGoat: ... Is that a remark on my nickname or..?
Gage: five foot eight, Alex, the female me, who couldn't beat me at pingpong.
Alex: ... we never played?
Gage: five foot eleven, Goat, our creator but fluffy, sorta
Goat: Why are you listing out our heights?
Gage: Six foot flat, Gage, burnt out creativity trying to come up with ideas
Gage: ...
Alex: are you ok?
Lynn: are you that limited on what you can do? We can fill the fireplace and just rest by it
FemGoat: I can get some marshmallows if we go with a fire
Goat: I'll get the matches
Alex, watching them go to get stuff for a fire: ... ok, they're out, what's wrong?
Gage: I'm disappointed in myself
Alex: ...
Gage: nothing?
Alex: well... I want to hear it
Gage: ... I've wanted to do more. Make a full on Undertale AU and not just a lingering dream... actually, that sounds like a good name for Night Terror's story... not the point. I wanna talk more about Omori, make a stupid joke AU with sincerity of Among Us x Omori, or a 4yrs later AU. Talk about FNAF. I love FNAF, I love the goofy ass lore of that franchise. Homestuck, one of my favorite writings by a bastard lunatic, I haven't even mentioned it before. The moment I've started adding myself, I was actually extremely desperate for any ideas at all. And with the days gone by, I'm just burned, and attempting anything hurts.
Alex: ... does that include?
Gage: no, I actually really wanted to start writing us. Correction, all of us, not just you and I.
Alex: ah
Gage: I think I'm burning up inside just because I'm stressed with all my responsibilities
Alex: ?
Gage: you and I both know this is a separate universe to our own worlds. I'm jumping through hoops just to be in the little worlds I create, just to see how they are, while balancing my life in several other worlds, hopping in where I left, appearing here and there and maintaining the friends I've made, with the only moments of peace being the void my mind drops into to forget where I am and what I look like.
Alex: I'm also pretty stressed, we do the same thing, remember?
Gage, silently crying: ... why do I have to be a god? Why did whatever happen just happen? I don't even fully remember how but I just remember being this way and now I can't stop. I want to do so much but what's the point of it all if I can't do anything?
Alex, also crying: I don't know
Gage: ... I'm going to stick to my promise to myself though. To never alter how my brain works. I still worry if I just remove it, then I'll never feel like me
Alex, giggling: mental masochist
Gage: I need something to feel...
Alex: how about a fire? Ranting won't stop the burning
Gage: burning out the burn out by burning myself out
Alex: don't lie in the fire, again.

"it sounds like everyone tends to justify their choices based on what the characters "should" do for the optimal outcome in-universe and not on what they personally would like to see happen in the story. Is this a sort of role-playing etiquette thing, or do you think most patrons genuinely engage with the story primarily on that level? Obviously the server isn't the right fan space to openly criticize the story (e.g. "I'm tired of how this show treats old women as threats to be killed, so let's try to deescalate" as a justification for giving up the talisman), but I'm a little surprised no one seems to take the stance of "the potential negative outcome of doing x would be more entertaining than any likely outcome of doing y, so I voted for x," at least not openly."
Okay, so there's a lot in here. For what it's worth, there are a lot of different ways that people vote. I tend to vote in terms of what I think the characters should do for an optimal outcome. There are others who vote based on memes (at one point, there was a whole pickle ball theory going on about where to find the talisman). I knew older patrons that would vote on the basis of "what keeps Arthur safe" as their primary priority, regardless of whether that seemed like the optimal narrative choice. There are plenty of people who silently vote and don't add anything to the discussion about why they're voting the way that they are. There's a few people that vote based on tarot card readings. I voted on the bread vs cheese vote on the basis of a d20 roll (evens for bread, odds for cheese). Lots of people vote on the basis of "I think this would be the cooler outcome!" To try to characterize the methods of around 300 people voting each time is a laughable exercise.
"Is this a sort of roleplaying etiquette thing?"
Well, not exactly. Malevolent is definitely based on the TTRPG "Call of Cthulhu", but it is an entirely different sort of experience to playing a Call of Cthulhu campaign or one-shot. I think you previously noted that in a true TTRPG with a GM and a handful of players, there would be significantly greater freedom in how the players choose to interact with the world. That is an entirely true statement. Malevolent instead gives the "players" (the voters) very limited influence over the story on a week-to-week basis.
I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. Partially because asking the creator to read the detailed opinions of 300+ patrons would be a huge ask, and partially because this allows the narrative to not be completely derailed by a suggestion that catches on but makes zero sense. (I think we need look no further than the early days of Homestuck to see how unrestrained reader input can cause absurdity to occur.) Never mind how you would wrangle all those ideas into a single choice that everyone could agree was the "winning" one, without having a strictly defined set of of options (as we currently get in the polls). Any other option, I suspect, would inevitably result in drama where BNFs (insofar as those exist) might be fairly or unfairly accused of being too influential, or perhaps being preferentially treated by the creator.
"Obviously the server isn't the right fan space to openly criticize the story (e.g. "I'm tired of how this show treats old women as threats to be killed, so let's try to deescalate" as a justification for giving up the talisman)"
It is not, no. And I think that's a fair thing as well. That's not to say that a deescalate argument wasn't offered by several different people! There was a lot of that, quite vocally for the first few days of that vote, but it was definitely not framed from the highly critical feminist lens that I think you're coming from. However that's not a reading that I particularly care to indulge in, nor do I agree with. However, I doubt that litigating that here would cause anything but unnecessary drama, and derail what has been a fairly pleasant conversation so far.
What I do think is worth examining here is the idea that the justifications offered in poll chat have any impact on what the creator means to write. I view that as an entirely separate phenomenon.
The creator of the show offers us at least two options every week, and although he may not know every detail of what will happen in those two options until he sits down to write the chosen option, it's clear that he offers those choices with some concept of what will happen next in mind, and perhaps some idea of how that might - or might not - impact plot points further along the story. The voters only real bit of influence here is deciding which of the options we would like to see play out, but we cannot and do not know precisely what that option will look like, or how it may reflect or fail to reflect the reasoning we presented in poll chat.
Poll chat is primarily where the voters talk to one another, not at the creator (although he has stepped in from time to time to say omnious things, or provide talking points for us to consider). There's a lot of interesting social aspects to what goes on there. It's not strictly a place to debate, although there usually is some good natured interrogation of one another's arguments and speculations. It's primarily a place to discuss what we think we should do as a collective, and to try to weigh every possible angle. It can also be a place where we try to organize "flip campaigns" (to change the current leading option to a different option by convincing enough people to change their vote), where we offer bribes to other patrons in exchange for them voting for our preferred option, and so on. I think it's at it's most enriching when the decision is discussed and dissected from a narrative perspective and an in-world logical perspective, but others might claim that ridiculous flip campaigns filled with art and poetry and bribes are their favorite.
"I'm a little surprised no one seems to take the stance of "the potential negative outcome of doing x would be more entertaining than any likely outcome of doing y, so I voted for x," at least not openly."
Oh, trust me. There are people that do. Very openly! We love them, even if we treat them a bit like a beloved pet cats who are trying really, really hard to knock a glass of water off the table.
"Just one more thing: You said the votes for ep 43 were nerve-wracking, but when I looked at the fan wiki it seemed like every vote was a landslide, including the one about not giving up the talisman. Are you not able to see how everyone voted or plans to vote right away? How much time do you have to finalize your vote?"
Okay. There is some additional context here. There was a Spooky Stream (a video game stream hosted by Malevolent's creator and his wife) during the period of time when we were voting on Part 43. Although they couldn't talk in detail, because that episode was not yet finished, never mind being public, there was a fairly extensive chat with the viewers about Part 43 and what it would mean for John going forward.
To transcribe the most relevant part for you:
Harlan: Season 4 was about Arthur. Season 5, especially the current Part, is kind of about John. I'm clearly, finally focusing on the question, like, you know… Jo: Who is he? Harlan: Who is he? Well, less who is he. Jo: What would he do, though? Harlan: What does he want to be? You know. And the patrons right now are are like, deciding who he gets to be. So. Fun fact, if you're not a voting patron. Um. If you know, in a year's time or even two month's time, John is not the way you want to him to be. If he's too villainous, if you're just like what's the fuck is this. Blame the patrons. (laughs) It's entirely their fault. So… there you go. Jo: No pressure. Harlan: (laughs) No pressure. Jo: No pressure! No pressure! The patrons right now are deciding who John gets to be.
This clearly indicated that we were going to be making a pretty important set of decisions about whether John chose to cling to hope and his journey toward humanity, or make a serious backslide toward his more "evil" nature. And although I can only speculate, I suspect that the choice to hold firm against the witch in regards to the talisman, and even more importantly, choose to have John "become entirely his own" were very important to the version of John that we have now.
So, because we did not yet know how or if Arthur would be resurrected, and John's emotional journey away from being nothing more than a monster seemed to be riding on our choices, we were very concerned with getting things right.
The reason why votes that look one-sided can still be very nerve-wracking is for a couple of different reasons. The first is… when the decision seems to be this important, we really, really try to weigh all sides and the amount of thought and speculation and attempts at logical deduction, or emotional appeals to one side or the other can be very overwhelming, and everyone can become very impassioned.
The other reason is because of the structure of the votes themselves.
Officially, the new chapter is supposed to drop on Wednesday at 7am. Which means we're presented with the Booth John version of our options early in the morning Wednesday. The poll does not open until Thursday at 7am. For the intervening time, we discuss the new chapter incessantly and try to work out what we want to do, with no idea about what the poll wording is going to be, or how many people are going to vote for what. Sometimes, what will turn out to be the minority option will have an unusually vocal group in the poll chat, which makes the people on the other side nervous. (That's what happened with the "give up the talisman" vote, and also with the "become whole" option. Both lost, but the people that were arguing for them were over-represented in the poll chat.)
Of course, Malevolent chapter rarely drop at the official time. It's far more common for the creator to drop the latest chapter on a Monday or Tuesday, which gives us even more time before the poll drops on Thursday to work ourselves into an anxious mess in the poll chat!
Once the poll drops, we see the official poll wording (which is what is recorded on the wiki) and we can place our votes. Once we choose an option we can see a live update of where the poll is currently at, and we can clearly see if Option A or Option B is winning, and by how much.
The other thing that makes poll chat and the votes interesting is the result of a tied vote. The creator has made it very clear that a tie will always be the worst possible outcome. There have been three historical ties.
The first Chapter 3 in Ackerman's bookshop, which resulted in Arthur getting shot at by a cultist, the cultist escaping and Arthur failing to meet Junior Dewitt Ackerman, who would have been able to tell him a great deal about the people who were involved with the Shub ritual in 1921.
The second was in Chapter 32, when Arthur couldn't decide if he would wait for the lighthouse keeper to return or leave. This resulted in the lighthouse light going out, some variety of monster attacking and killing the lighthouse keeper, and potentially waking the ghoulish widow from her grave.
The third, final and only intentional tie was Chapter 99, where there was no Booth John commentary and only the poll wording or "John" or "Arthur". The patrons at the time refused to decide between the two, and intentionally engineered a tie. This resulted in the King in Yellow becoming Yellow, the apparent devastation of the Dreamlands without its King, the seeming amnesia arc with Yellow, both Arthur and John attempting to sacrifice themselves for the other, and John being forced into a deal with Kayne after being thrown into the Dark World.
Knowing that ties are always going to be the worst outcome, the grand majority of patrons try to avoid them at all costs. However, there are a small number of patrons that will advocate for the chaos of a tie, even knowing that the outcome will likely be horrific.
Okay, topical Malevolent ep 44 reaction. Based on the wiki, it looks like the characters' choices to not return to the windmill and to get the witch's body were made by voting patrons, which further convinces me that the votes don't improve or even significantly change the story most of the time. Whenever Jorthur (yes, Jorthur) make a Patreon decision they usually have to justify it in-universe with a little debate, and besides just being kinda tedious, the justification often doesn't line up with the story's action. The patrons understandably wanted to explore the hallways over the windmill, which was justified in-universe by saying Arthur was too weak and injured to climb back there. But then the only interesting loot on offer is a piece of the witch, and once they chose that there's suddenly a big pool in the way and the world's most stabbed man suddenly has incredible lung capacity (I checked, he's underwater for 3:20 minutes and is yelling as they're launched out) and can swim with a metal breastplate on and cut through limbs once he's down there. He even conveniently brought all his shit with him despite the potential for water damage, so they didn't lose their inventory by being unexpectedly spat out. (John doesn't even sound like he's all that worried about him drowning either lol, though that's a separate issue of him being a slow horror podcast narrator first and an active character second.)
I understand why you would gamify a story loosely based on a role-playing campaign, but as someone who already doesn't get the appeal of listening to other people play TTRPGs, I struggle to imagine what the patrons get out of this (besides financially supporting a show they like, obvi). It's not really like a role-playing game because you don't control everything the protagonists do or have the context you need to make the best decisions (in this case, the characters know they dumped the witch in a deep pool, but the patrons probably didn't), nor is it really like a choose-your-own-adventure story because you don't get to try the alternate paths and everything will lead back to the author's planned narrative anyway. It's good for the story but presumably not much fun for the players that the author has an outline and an ending set in stone iirc.
Since someone could see this and go "well here's when the voting really worked for me," I did want to be fair and find an instance where the voting mechanism (probably) led to a good story choice. I like that the seemingly innocuous choice to ring the doorbell in ep 33 leads Arthur to realize that he fucked up several episodes prior by leaving his name at the hotel. That was a nice reveal, and maybe the lack of context actually made the vote more fun. It would have been revealed either way by Daniel being shot at the door, but ig Arthur stopping him before he opened it saved his life or something, idk. It feels pointless to speculate on when we're never going to see what happens if he knocks. Ultimately the difference between that and ep 44 to me, a non-patron, is just that Arthur fucking up by trying to be smart and realizing it at the last second is a good story beat, one with a clear line between cause and effect. Jorthur faffing about in the halls when they apparently could've just left through the windmill and then diving with armor on to mutilate a woman's corpse because the author is on a birth imagery kick is not.
Uhh other thoughts, I guess I am pretty glad they're finally out of the weird yonic caverns, even if I can tell that Jorthur entering civilization will lead to more ~historical liberties~ that will cause me actual pain. The voice acting is great as always. I like Yorick. I don't like that we're getting more dad!Arthur moments because come on. Also personally I would not have named the cute owl sidekick after the heavily implied CSA victim with no voice or agency from Oscar's grimdark edgyboy backstory, but that's just me

You could argue the rpgs are kinda cheating cause you know, rpgmaker games are as prevalent as VNs, especially back in the day, but neither here nor there. Speaking of back in the day, there was also stuff like Hammerkind, and that Jane cooking game. Also would like to hear some of your fanventure reccomendations, besides VE or Kittyquest. Nothing towards Kittyquest, thats more me already guessing it from the blog banner and description.
heheheheh yeah it's no surprise that I'd recommend Kittyquest, I've had half a mind to blaze a post I made about it, that's how much I think people should read it, like even taking away my davepeta bias (they don't even show up at that often lmao) it's just a much more fun look into a post canon homestuck, with the world its built.
and while it's neither here nor there, I think it's a matter of the era/fandom. Like homestuck fans aren't going towards visual novels because they're any "easier" (the accessibility of tools especially for people who just want to write and draw does help of course), it's because it directly melds well with the format of comics/flashes/adventure games that the series itself runs on, and pesterquest/friendsims normalized it. It's like how if you go back you'll find a whole bunch of [x]stuck AUs and concepts and whatever, because back then people literally just did whatever because it was an active and chaotic fandom, for better and for worse.
For MSPFAs, again I don't spend as much as I'd like to in reading them and haven't really caught up and I already have a huge backlog when it comes to other stuff, but some that I've kept tabs on are, some of these aren't that active though:
(you've opened the floodgates anon, I didn't expect this post to get this long)
Martyrdom (last update: May 30th, 2022) , which is about the midnight crew finding some weird dudes stepping on their turf and trying to deal with them.
Homestuck (last update: April 21st, 2022), an mspfa that starts off where somehow Jade is teleported to the start of the comic, and there's something about OCs and there's a lot of earthbound music and I thought it was neat with how it changes things up
OH FUCK I forgot, Oasisquest (last update: September 16, 2021), it hasn't updated in a while but it's an mspfa that I think is based off the creators' roleplaying, so there's a new planet, mostly fantrolls and the designs are good
Oh and of course Act 8 (Last Update: April 16, 2021), because everybody has to have at least one "the ending of homestuck underwhelmed me, we can totally fix it" mspfa comic to follow. I don't remember too much but it does some neat stuff with Gamzee, Aradia and Tavros get a neat meat up, and Davepeta does some cool stuff here and there, so you know I'm down, even if it hasn't updated in like a year
OH FUCK also Deltastuck (last update: April 13, 2022), it's almost exactly what you'd expect form the name, but it's UNDERTALE characters trying to use sburb to get out of the underground, I haven't checked it out in a while since it had to stop to make a big flash update, but that's actually done now so it's somewhat still going
and uh, I think I'll end this off with a really old one, Nightfall (discontinued), which I haven't even finished but it interests me in that it's so clearly written before certain things in the comic that it almost feels like a time capsule.
It's basically centered around vrisjohn and it's post canon but in the way that I guess people just assumed that when the kids were done with the game and made a new universe they'd do normal kids stuff again and be in a normal americana setting while the trolls fuck off to their own planet, except suddenly Vriska shows up and has to hide out at John's place because humans don't know about aliens.
And of course the stakes get randomly high with some kind of magic alien ninja or something, I never got that far to understand but it was interesting to find, and while the creator doesn't plan on finishing it, they've basically adapted it into an original work, Xenologia (last update: June 25th, 2022) that apparently is still hosted on MSPFA and has multiple chapters out
we don't talk 'bout alt mewniverse no no no, we dont' talk 'bout alt mewniverse~
Also while we're down here, I've never actually read Vast Error. A part of me thinks it's funnier not to read it, so I can look at it in the same confusion as people who've never read homestuck probably looks at posts about it.
#dashingposts#asks#Anonymous#jesus christ this post got long#sorry anon#mspfa recs under the first two blocks of text tho#long post#dashingreads#dashingreads: mspfa#dashingreplies

How do ya capture the "voice" of homestuck characters so well? Besides studying the comic, is there any other media you consume to really get in their head?
First off: Thanks, i’m happy you enjoy my stuff! Secondly… there ARE a few steps i take to the madness.
I basically come from a Dungeon master/Open-world roleplay management background, so when approaching HS cast voices and trying to understand a character to write a story for them i usually take into account 1.INSPIRATIONS, 2.INTERESTS & due to homestuck’s nature, 3.INTERPRETATIONS (As opposed to “player intent”- Hussie’s work is an amalgam of himself and the public input.)
Rereading their logs/sections always helps when you’re trying to figure out their language, pacing, and a bit of their temperament, but getting too lost on mimicking their messages as-is without looking into the character itself may risk leaving them ringing hollow or repetitive (specially for the section of the public that may be more familiar with this character than you are. This is something that may matter to you or not, if you WANT this work to appeal to a specific public or are just messing around.) Because it may just come down to mindless quirk indulgence. In my experience, readers are more forgiving & enthralled by creators who, while not following the specifics of a character’s quirk to a T maintain a sense of internal logic that is congruent with what is shown throughout their appearances. Some AU’s specifically remix, remove or substitute these aspects, and the reason why people usually don’t complain about it is that “it makes sense- given (x) and (x) context.” Like kidswap aus, etc.
Another thing about Quirks is that they can very easily be broken. Having a grasp of how quirk rules affect a character based on their emotional state and how it changes over time is more valuable than internalizing a hard set of rules that never changes. (Ex: Sollux’ quirk evolves over time. So does Aradia’s, as she changes bodies. June’s quirk takes on Vriska-like qualities after they begin chatting, Vriska uses 8’s and exclamation points more liberally and/or nonsensically when she’s angry/distressed/desperate, Jake’s transatlantic slang and embellishment of speech is mostly at the backseat unless he’s pretending/anxious/overwhelmed, otherwise he’s pretty simple.) Knowing how to break a quirk is just as good as knowing how to write it - traditional prose in fics *may not use quirks at all*, but they’re so good at grasping the particular intonation a character uses when stringing words together at a given situation that you don’t mind that at all. It’s a smooth adaptation.
[GREAT RESOURCE: this google drive has a compilation of all logs between characters in Homestuck separated by participants but usually only lists them on one-on-one basis, so you may wanna look at groupchats in the original comic. I think the epilogues section may be still unfinished. I forget who originally posted it on twitter but i know they have a dedicated tumblr, i’ll edit this if someone can name their blog]
“INSPIRATIONS” are usually how i define character personalities by their distinct mix of archetypes. This is the “PROTAGONIST”, “GOTH GIRL”, “SILLY GIRL”, “COOL GUY”, “WEIRDO”, “GAMER GIRL”, “CODING WANNABE” and other such little buzzwords that HS will throw around in reference to each of its characters, and that usually, but not always, function as a setup to subvert the expectations based on that character come a certain point in the story. Where does the character you’re trying to write fall into, when you try to describe them in these terms? Does their story humour this definition, reject it, destroy it, or evolve it? Does this seem like a genuine fact about them, or a facade? Why do you think that is? (Asking questions is my preferred way of pulling apart and understanding a character, this may work differently for you.)
“INTERESTS” is where i look into for that chunky, fatty, well-grilled meat that goes in the middle of a character’s text. Homestuck characters are defined by what they like, what they aspire to be, and what they fail at becoming(& how that shapes their actions going forwards). Interacting with the media they like may not always be the way, but having a general idea of how it functions and what it means to them is usually very helpful. I was already familiar with a lot of things my favorite characters enjoy, and thus it was easier for me to get attached to them. I also had to watch a lot of shitty movies sometimes. You win some, you lose some.
EX: It’s easier to write Dave’s pov if you have a good grasp of the pop culture & economics he so often references. (What he likes) It’s easier to write Rose’s pov when you’ve searched a bit of armchair psychology wikipedia definitions and familiarized yourself with the genre and existential questions usually involved in Eldritch Horror, and how it evolved outside of Lovecraft. (What she aspires to be like) It’s easier to write Jake when you understand his persona is a collage of juvenile and outdated archetypes taken from action flicks & shitty mainstream comicbooks, that he ultimately fails to ever live up to and hinders his development as a kid at odds with self-imposed traditional masculinity, dreading to publicize the big “Gay” word. (What he fails at becoming)
It’s always useful to ask yourself “Why does this character like (x)” and what that particular thing may say about them. It doesn’t have to be a big groundbreaking revelation, just put yourself into their shoes and try to reverse engineer what you’re presented about them vs their environment, personal issues, and you might just find yourself understanding why they do what they do.
“Karkat probably likes cheesy romantic comedies because they’re peak middleclass normalass media for someone who’s ostracized from troll society and is purposefully a shithead to keep people away”
“Terezi probably likes dragons because they’re FUCKING COOL but also whoops here’s all this historic lore about Redglare and their lusus and a tragic sense of JUST1C3”
“Aradia probably grapples with the concept of mortality and the ephemeral nature of life, so she’s really into the morbid observation of disasters & archeology & bones, i guess? Is this because she died really young? Oh. Maybe yeah.”
But if you find the above too hard to access on your own, that’s where
INTERPRETATIONS come in to make this process smoother in the case you just wanna write an extended cast thing and frankly you could not give less of a shit about (x)’s lore, you just want to have a sense of what people like about them, and why people read about them, and how you can purposefully adapt that into your text so socmedia user halfucker69 isn’t crying on your mentions for 11 whole threaded comments about how you did their babyboybaby wrong. I can’t exactly point to you where you can FIND meta because this highly depends on the character, and sometimes you just have to make your own food, but you’ll be good if you try to look into creators who post about these characters, whose thoughts or fan media seem to be congruent with your idea of said character or solid enough that you can easily see how it’s been developed from point A to point B. Interact with more fanworks. Find out what works for you and what doesn’t. “Character study” is a whole genre of fanfic, if you don’t wanna go for shippy stuff - but a lot of “shippy stuff” has its own valuable edge to seeing how people internalize a character, and shouldn’t be as easily dismissable as it is. Again, you’ll have to rely on your own sense of internal logic here - you can’t take EVERY work as the universal truth, but trying stuff out will give you a better sense of who you think this character is.
Then you have to get around trying to write it, which is easier said than done. A lot of times writing about a character will lead you to understanding them better, and you may even find yourself disagreeing with things past-you said when you were first beginning to think about them, and that’s ok. You only get better at writing by asking better questions and then writing some more. Take your time with it. I hope this helps!

I've done Trans Male Reader (Ftm) oneshots in my other books but someone suggested that I make a whole book about trans reader and I thought it was a good idea. These one shots are mostly gonna deal with dysphoria and are gonna be hurt/comfort kind of oneshots.
Requests are always open, DM me with the character you'd like and a plot if you have one in mind.
I'm gonna try and do as many characters as I can but I can't really write a character if I don't know them, so here's a short list of my main fandom's, that I can do. If I didn't put one of your fandom's in, DM me and ask if I know it, since I can't always remember all my fandoms and I'm always entering new fandom's.

‘Toxic’ Anime Fandoms (But I’m just angry)
Ok so this is gonna be a long stupid ramble because I (An idiot) found some articles online about toxic anime fandoms... and by god does it piss me off. SO in this essay I’m gonna incoherently scream about why these articles I found are just lacking in explanation, and then I point at the glaring flaws. Not to mention I’m using multiple articles, but they all like to use similar arguments. Warning, I’m gonna paraphrase because these articles are long winded about literally nothing.
The Naruto fanbase is toxic because people compare everything to Naruto, and people get upset when you don’t put it in your best anime list!! Honey... HONEY, that’s how all fandoms are. Naruto was likely people’s first introduction to anime, and people are defensive over their nostalgia, I mean like you saw the uprising with the new Ben 10 and Teen Titans Go, other than the fact that they’re BAD, but people were upset and still are (which is yet again understandable) Seriously, if I made a list that said ‘Best Things Ever’ and I didn’t include something that they liked, then I understand why someone would be upset, and maybe comment something. It’s the day in age where if you have an opinion someone will probably be upset with you.
The Deathnote fanbase is toxic because people like to say it’s good and act offended if you haven’t watched it! Well I mean... Yeah? That’s how fans of a show can act, it’s just exaggerated. I mean seriously, if someone told me they haven’t ever played Undertale, or heard anything about Homestuck- I’m gonna wonder about what part of the internet you’ve been on because I played Undertale for the first time in like 2019 thanks to how much my friends praised it, and I only got into Homestuck in very late 2020 because one of my friends went on a three hour rant about homestuck and I needed the context for so much stuff. Hell, I only have any knowledge on Deathnote because my friend took their old Deathnote Manga and gave it to me for my birthday- which was a touching gift since they really love Deathnote.
The Hunter X Hunter fanbase is toxic because it doesn’t get attention from weebs, and the fans sometimes get angry. Seriously? That’s what we’re mad about? This is literally so fucking petty my god- next ffs.
The Jojo fanbase is toxic because ‘is that a jojo reference memes’ and because fans want you to watch Jojo. Fucking- AGAIN!? jesus christ. You wanna know how I got into Jojo? My tooth was pulled, and it was the first time I ever got any teeth pulled, so I was high as hell and spitting out blood occasionally. I didn’t want to walk home that day (for obvious reasons) and so I stayed late so I could get a ride from my friends parents. So when another mutual acquaintance came up, and he was playing the Jojo game on an emulator. This got into the three of them telling me about Jojo, but only super vague pieces of it. High off my ass I got home, binge watched like two seasons of it, and forgot everything that happened after the first episode. So I managed to get through the first season (again) before I got caught up in other things (ahem, pokemon) Not to mention that its normal to want to share something you like with other people. Back when I read books regularly I used to keep a list of books to recommend to my friends.
The Demon Slayer fandom is bad cuz too many spoilers :( Okay? This... This doesn’t a toxic fandom make. Yeah it’s shitty, but like full fucking on- that’s not toxic?
The Dragon Ball fanbase is toxic because people think Goku is the strongest and argue about it, and it’s dying, but like I’m also proof that DBZ fans aren’t bad! Okay? And? Like I full on mean that. I’m a Dragon Ball fan and let me tell you- I’ve literally never seen a single fucking person actually say anything like that unironically- or during a power leveling video that’s an actual discussion about power scaling. Not to mention that for the most part people watch shows for the actual show? Like the plot, characters, storyline- ya know, the actual fucking show?
The Attack on Titan fanbase is toxic because fans sent death threats to the author for ending the manga. Jesus fucking christ- okay, yeah that’s toxic! So... where’s the catch? They also wrote their own endings to the manga. I swear to GOD- WHAT THE FUCK. Fanfiction has existed forever you ignoramus, bleach-snorting, styrofoam eating IDIOT. Seriously, I literally fucking rewrote the entirety of Naruto (Multiple Times over) are you gonna say that I’m Toxic? How about the multiple other hundreds of people who have literally rewritten entire works of fiction.
Now, what do I consider toxic fanbases? The top three are: Undertale, Homestuck and Steven Universe. The Undertale fandom managed to be so bad that people were actually kinda scared of it. Not to mention that it is a good game, people just went a bit too far. If you killed anyone people would send death threats, Markiplier (a really cool youtuber) had people yell at him for giving Sans a southern accent, and I mean the fact that it’s so big made it worse. The Homestuck fandom had many bad moments where some fans caused harm to others, damaged products, the girl who nearly killed herself trying to dye her skin for a cosplay, AND LITERALLY CHANGED THE CONVENTION FIELD. The Steven Universe fandom nearly killed a fan because she drew a fat character thin, they turned on the fucking creators for saying this was bad, multiple racist, sexist and homophobic things just existing while people pretend to be fake woke.
And this has been- I literally knew all of the bad fandom stuff because I lived through it. Problem is, I lived through the popularity of every single anime on this list while actively in more internet spaces, and I don’t fucking see it. Seriously, when I think of toxic anime fanbases I think about anime like Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, where a bunch of 30 year olds get horny over a child and then say that they’re fine because she’s ACSHUALLY 2,000 years old! I mean fuck, my favorite meme is literally the- “Men be like “You’re not a real anime fan if you don’t watch ‘Is it wrong to piss on my bunny sister’s feet?’“ Like- fucking exactly. Both these fucking articles have ‘I think that when someone is a little mean or says something kinda annoying they’re TOXIC!’ Like bitch no, when I think toxic I think of the gaslighting fanbases that end up with multiple people with mental disorders or someone dead- which let me tell you, is a surprisingly large amount of fandoms?
Anyways so I’m done, mainly because it’s like super fucking late and I’m so tired
#Anime Rant#Toxic Anime Fanbases#So close to snapping#Seriously why are these articles so bad#W H Y#why professional articles so bad

The Pesterquest Paradox
I haven’t reviewed or made any remarkable comments on Pesterquest, which might seem odd for what was dsigned to be a Homestuck blog.
So what do I think of it?
Well, as a series of short stories set in the homestuck universe, Friendsim was entertaining. Pesterquest, from what I have seen, didn’t have the same solid introductory chapters, but is instead a good source of fanservice AU material and is therefore a bit fluffy. I do think this is appealing.
As a visual novel, it’s... very bad. There is no “visual” or “novel” about it; stories are extremely short with no meaningful choices (especially in pesterquest) and there are only a couple of drawings per route! No scenes are expressed artistically. You wont get shots to lots of people meeting up like in John’s route, you wont get drawings of the scenarios in front of you. And sound effects? Hah! Don’t even ask.
Where it becomes paradoxical is how the creators, WhatPumpkin 3.0, want us to see this.
They say on Twitter that it should not be taken seriously as it is technically a “fanfic” however Whatpumpkin also want it to be treated with more respect than a fanfic. If you criticise how a character has been treated you get “but this fits in canon because x y z”.
Whatpumpkin also want more leeway in terms of cutting corners, like the art direction and how it’s a bad visual novel, because they’re “trying to make a profit”. Damningly there are references to this in the work itself.
The homestuck fandom has been around for over 10 years; there are countless fanfic, fangames, fanventures, even visual novels which are of a higher quality and effort than Pesterquest. Entire worlds people created out of their love for the Homestuck world. All not-for-profit, because every time someone had tried to fundraise for a REAL Homestuck project, WP has shot it down with mixed levels of justification.
Why, then, would I give WhatPumpkin’s low effort mediocre chargable “fanfic” the time of day?
#whatpumpkin#pesterquest#remember this company spent $2.5 million on fundraiser money and this is the result#homestuck

WILL I WON’T I MASTERLIST
Tired of having to browse through pages of posts just to figure out if I’ll write it? Me too. I just spent hours putting it all together so you don’t have to!
The list is in alphabetical order for convenience and under the read more due to length.
EDIT: 3/9/2023 I am updating the fandoms to include a hyperlink to take you directly to the fandom tag. If you see a hyperlink in the list of fandoms I don’t write for, that’s because I wrote something before I officially decided to not take requests for a fandom. If there is no hyperlink for fandoms I do write it’s because i haven’t filled a request for that fandom yet.
I Will:
Aggretsuko
Alien (movie series)
Animal Crossing (no nsfw)
Animorphs
Archer
Beastars (up to season 2 of the anime)
Bendy and the Ink Machine

Fable (2 + 3)
Far Cry (5 + New Dawn)
Fallout (fo3, new vegas, fo4)

Full Metal Alchemist (2003 anime only)
Futurama
Gargoyles
Gravity Falls
