Death in the Family/ Under the Red Hood AU

Jason never actually came back to life.

When his mother left his father, she took his identical twin brother with her.

The boys reconnected when Jason tracked them down, but after the explosion kills Jason and their mother, Jason's brother is left alone and grieving.

Blaming Batman for turning his brother into Robin and causing him to be a target for the Joker, he becomes Red Hood and moves to Gotham to take his revenge.

He breaks into Titans Tower and attacks Tim for replacing his brother so soon after his death, but after he puts his full plan into action, he ends up being mistaken for Jason when his helmet gets knocked off.

Much to his surprise, this revelation is met with tears and apologies.

Batman and Nightwing then remove their masks and try and convince him to come home.

He, in turn, is so shocked about seeing Bruce Wayne and Dick Greyson that when they ask him to come home, he agrees.

He is caught so off guard that he ends up just... playing along and letting them think he's Jason.

At first, he plans to find out as much about Batman as he can and then release the information to the press, but then he starts seeing just how much Bruce and everyone else missed Jason.

How they kept his room exactly the same.

His books were still bookmarked in the library, sitting out on end tables.

Even Tim comes up to him and tells him about what Bruce was like after the funeral.

Spending time with Jason's family convinces him that he can't take down the Batman.

But that also brings up a new problem, as the family believes they have Jason back and he doesn't know how to leave, or even if he can.

In the end, the need to know more about his brother and the people who loved him drives him to pretend that 'coming back to life' left him with amnesia, allowing him to move in and assume Jason's identity.

The longer the con goes on, though, the more paranoid he becomes that one day, someone will discover that he's not really Jason at all, and that his brother's body is still buried out in the family plot.

Jason makes it his life's mission to be Duke's number one support.Duke's hungry?He already has things like food bars,drink boxes,etc with him he started carrying specifically for him and if there's a kitchen near you bet your ass he's going to it to cook him a full meal.Duke needs a sparing partner?He's already in a fighting stance before he finishes the sentence.Duke wants to play video games?Jason either joins him as his Player 2 or carefully listens to him enthutiastically infodump as he plays.Duke's feeling insecure about his Robin status?Jason tells him what a paragon of the mantle he is and how no matter the time or reality,he'll always choose him and no one else as his Robin.Duke can't sleep?He lays down with him as his weighted blanket and dosen't leave until he's slumbering safe and sound.Duke needs backup on troublemaking?Jason had The Outlaws' tech build them matching beepers so he could have him on speeddail.Duke needs anything for any reason or just wants something?Jason will give it to him and refuse not to no matter who or what tries to stop him.Duke is Jason's whole not world but multiverse bro.His lil Sun Pocket

Two things can be and are true at once.

Robin Jason was a sweet, kind kid who cared about victims. He also had righteous rage and violent tendencies towards those he thought deserved it.

Being Robin gave him magic and as Robin he shattered a man's collarbone with no remorse.

Pre utrh Jason opening up a little bookshop as a side hustle to his Crime Lord business (only to do evil of course, like making little book stands to promote his favourite books) and one day Bruce walks by, sees all of Jason’s favourite books on display in the window and decides to walk in (because he’s a masochistic fuck like that.)
