Fall Foliage Predictions: These Maps Show When And Where To See Peak Colors

The blistering summer of 2024 will soon be coming to an end, and that means fall leaf peeping can't be far behind.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, leaves can change their color from as early as mid-September all the way through early November. "Typically, the second and third week of October are the peak times, but it shifts depending on where you live and your local weather conditions," the Almanac said.

Warm, sunny days are good for vibrant fall colors, but only if they are accompanied by cool nights, according to the Weather Channel. Precipitation can also affect the color show – extreme drought and excessive rainfall are both detrimental to foliage.

A warm period during fall will also lower the intensity of autumn colors, the U.S. Forest Service said. The latest forecast from the Climate Prediction Center shows that a warmer-than-average fall is likely for nearly the entire U.S.

Here's a county-by-county breakdown of how the 2023 foliage changed across the U.S.:

New England boasts some of the most colorful fall foliage displays. Every year, about ten million leafpeepers visit the region to enjoy the beauty of fall. Typically, northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and northwest Maine experience peak early in October.

Parts of New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania must wait until late into October, according to ExploreFall.com.

Drought Can Affect Fall Colors

According to the U.S. Forest Service, a severe summer drought can delay the onset of fall color by a few weeks. Drought was particularly harsh in the mid-Atlantic and central Appalachians this summer, which could delay the fall foliage season there, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Pastelok.

How Leaves Change Color In The Fall

As the amount of daylight gets shorter in the fall, chlorophyll production in leaves slows down and eventually stops. Chlorophyll gives leaves a green color, so when these pigments are not visible, carotenoids, which produce yellow orange and brown colors, show through, according to the Virginia Department of Forestry.

Bright light and excess plant sugars are abundant during the season, and they help produce anthocyanins, which add red to plants.

At times many wonder at the content that appears on this most communicative page .. as also on the minimal expresses of the X and the FB .. and I often smile and laugh at the manner in which , they that profess to be the 'masters' of the communicative 'business', pick up words expressions and create content headlines , in the garb of sensationalised information, for, that is what catches the eye of the visitor ..

The shop keeper that 'SELLS' his product - clothes, eats etc.,- shall ever put the very attractive 'content' at the doors of the window , in order to attract a prospective buyer , in order to get him or her into the store to BUY .. There is no difference in the presentation of CONTENT ..

Sensation works the sale ..

How to create it , is no longer a challenge .. the freshness of the earlier communicative days has been deeply diluted by the billions of visuals and cameras and individual information and communication devices, now at the hands of 7.6 billion humans ..

How to survive this onslaught is what the writing on the wall is :

तो क्या किया जाये ? चलो कुछ नया, मन चाहा, रेत का महल बना देते हैं । है तो रेत का, ज़्यादा देर टिके गा नहीं, जल्दी गिर जाएगा, फिर और कुछ बना देंगे - 'बना' देंगे - बनी बनी कहानी है, सच्चाई से बहुत दूर , क्या फ़र्क़ पड़ता है, हमारे बारे में तो नहीं है न !!!? वो जिनके बारे में जो असत्य लिखा है , छपा है, वो भोगें , हमारा काम तो हो गया - बिक गया, बेच दिया , माल अंदर - खेल ख़तम पैसा हज़म !!!

जी हाँ !!! आपका खेल क़तम, और आपके पैसे हज़म - दूसरे तड़पें, कष्ट में पड़ें, हमको क्या, हमारी तो बिक्री हो गई !

बेच दिया - बेच दिया अपने संस्कार, अपना धर्म, अपनी आत्मा को !!

The Kentucky Derby, "the most exciting two minutes in sports," has offered endless moments of high excitement since its first run 150 years ago.

Held at Churchill Downs, the nation’s premier horse racing event continues to attract dedicated fans and casual spectators alike. Viewers are drawn to the race’s pageantry, history – and money.

This year’s Run for the Roses will offer a record purse of $5 million, race organizers announced in January. That’s an increase of $2 million over recent years.

The Derby’s allure continues, despite accusations of horse doping in 2021 and the deaths of two horses in 2023.

What Makes The Kentucky Derby So Popular?

The thrill of the race is the overall passion of the Derby, of course. But there's also race history, manifested in fandom by Secretariat, the almost mystical champion racehorse known as Big Red who ruled the tracks in the mid-1970s.

Even those who don't follow horse racing have heard of Secretariat, who won racing's Triple Crown – the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes – in 1973. He's the champion against which all other race horses are measured.

How impressive was Secretariat? His records include:

Fastest Kentucky Derby: 1 Minute, 59.40 Seconds.

Fastest Preakness Stakes: 1 Minute, 53 Seconds.

Fastest Belmont Stakes: 2 Minutes, 24 Seconds.

Secretariat died in 1989 and was buried in Paris, Kentucky. His legend endures; he has more than 260 streets named after him, according to an ESPN review in 2020.

The Kentucky Derby track is 1¼ miles long, or 2,200 yards. Since 1974, the Derby has allowed 20 horses to compete in the event.

Horses line up at a 65-foot starting gate that stretches across the track. The gate has a stall for each horse. Stalls are known as posts or post positions.

The pictures are a line of D-21 They are covered with spraylat to protect them from the elements. The D-21 is like a miniature SR 71, it had a camera, and it was very fast. These pictures were taken when the D-21s were looking for museums for their new homes 35 years ago.

It was developed before SR 71; the D stands for daughter. M stands for Mother It is a drone that sits on top of the M-21. When the drone is on top of the M 21 is called the MD 21.

The MD-21 is a Blackbird with two Cockpits that looks like an SR 71, but it carries no recon. cameras; the goal of Kelly Johnson’s MD-21 was to discover hidden information about China.

The USA was successful in finding that China was indeed producing nuclear bombs and testing them in 1963. I’m not sure how they found this out it could’ve been air sampling or A 12.

The reaction to finding out that China had nuclear weapons was so offensive that Presidents Kennedy and Johnson wanted to bomb the facility. it was as scary as it still is today

President Nixon canceled Tagboard after the Chinese asked them to stop flying SR 71 over their land. The Chinese wrongly identified the D 21 as the SR 71. after the MD-21 program was canceled. The quest for information from China was still needed so the D-21s were launched from a B-52.

Some of the B-52s armed with D-21s were launched from Beale Air Force Base when I lived there. My Dad Butch Sheffield writes about it in his unpublished book.

A little background for A-12 was developed by the Skunk Works for the CIA to replace the U2. In 1958, Kelly Johnson determined that eventually, the U2 would be shot down by the Soviets because they could track them. The reason the Soviets were so successful is that we, the Americans, shared tracking devices with them during World War II.

In the 1980s the Skunk Works leader Ben Rich was traveling in Europe when a former member of the Soviet Union KGB approached him with a piece of a D 21 The Soviet Union had been trying to reverse engineer that piece of titanium to make their drone, but the Soviets were unsuccessful.

You will find that in a free society like America People are NOT afraid to make mistakes while working in aviation. This leads to more creative ideas. 🇺🇸

The A-12 was successful and flew from 1962 to 1968. There was an overlap of just a few months when both Blackbirds were flying simultaneously. There was a contest called “Good Girl” between the two Blackbirds. The test was inconclusive, but it was decided to cancel the A-12 program and proceed with the SR-71 program. The A-12 had two variations; one was the YF 12, which was an interceptor that carried weapons. The other variation of the A-12 was the M-21. The MD 21 Blackbird carries the D-21 drone. All variations of the Blackbirds were canceled.

Ironically, the U2 was never canceled. It still flies today, although it has been upgraded many times, and it is not exactly like the original. * A recent update is that the U2 will be canceled, but I’ll believe it when it really happens. Hopefully, it won’t.
