Applied for my first Big Girl job after five years of grinding at this PhD (the end is in sight!!), and guess what folks— my degree actually supplied me with skills relevant to the job posting. My skills are needed. There’s a place out there for me. The utter shock of it all!!

Whilst I hand you guys a couple of Wrench doodles, rate this embarrassing instance out of 10 that just happened to me:

For the second time in my entire ICT course, I used irrelevant vocabulary to answer a test question (thankfully just a progress checker test, not the actual thing!!). First time that it happened I ended up using ionic bonds to explain how a laser printer worked. The second time I used the word formulae (which apparently is mathematic vocabulary and not just used to describe some recipe like in SpongeBob) to explain the advantages HTML developers can gain from website templates☠️

when I was little I used to play clue with my sister and when I won by being like “okay YOU don’t have the candlestick and I don’t have the candlestick and there are no more cards, so it’s gotta be the candlestick” she would get really mad and tell me I was cheating because I wasn’t supposed to be making assumptions like that and she didn’t understand where I was getting the info from, so I was ruining the game for her

Honestly who is even the target audience for this zelda movie. If it was for kids they would've made it an animation probably, and obviously they want it to reach wider audiences than just people who are already fans of the games, but like. This is a fantasy video game movie full of magic and weird and silly looking creatures, I can't help but feel like that would be off-putting to a lot of people who would think it's silly (which it will be probably. God I just know they're gonna make Link be like super sarcastic and have a bunch of one liners I can't do this)

Maybe I did this to myself but it does irk me when people see me knitting and they ask who it’s for and I say it’s for me and the immediate reaction is “you should sell it” yeah… let me spend at least a week’s worth of my free time making an item I like, want, and would wear just to sell it on etsy, making at most a £2 profit on materials and not being compensated for my time whatsoever 👍🏻

you can't understand how crazy-making the academic job market is for me until you know that 90% of the music depts hiring are all white (despite the dept's stated "commitment to diversity") or else have one (1) Black male prof who teaches jazz (alternatively one [1] Black woman who is non-TT and shared among two other depts). if the directory includes more than two people of color it's a miracle.
