This song perfectly captures the fic’s sad yet beautiful energy from Thaddeus’s POV. And I don’t have a clue if that’s good or not because ITS A SUCH A SAD YET GOOD SONG. I HATE THE GAYS.

Ok but fr, I understand the radioapple hype to a degree but I can’t look at them without screaming in my head that Alastor is aroace. We already have one cringe fail guy (vox) pining after Alastor and while it would be hilarious for him to have a harem of demons pining after him without his knowledge (I diagnose him aroace oblivious) - there is something that speaks to me about Adamapple in a way that makes me go feral.

The enemies to lovers is strong in this one. The themes of redemption, forgotten grudges being recontextualized with growth. Also the size difference 👁️👄👁️ (ADAM HOLDING HIM WITH HIS WING??? EXCUSE ME???)

I understand in theory why radioapple is so popular, they did act p gay in dad beat dad :/ but it just doesn't tickle my fancy that much! Dunno why! I think I can only think of "why does Alastor antagonize Lucifer so much? Why does he want to seem like a father figure to Charlie? WHATS HIS FUCKING DEAL??? ALASTOR TELL ME YOUR SECRETS" and I have room for nothing else lol.

That being said I don't have a problem with any ships at all! This is a judgement free zone! Everyone can ship anything they like. I don't care that Alastor is aroace bc characters are straight all the time and I never care about that either! Sure, it's important to not go overboard and disrespect their actual identity, but fanon is about having fun and it's not like there aren't aroace people that didn't change labels later. You could make Alastor realize he's actually demisexual or whatever. Knock yourself out. I myself quite like some vox x alastor, just because it's a similar flavor to adamsapple lmfao.

My favorite trope ever in fiction is definitely, 100000%, enemies to lovers. UGH I EAT THAT SHIT RIGHT UP. All my biggest ships are that. Though for adamsapple I also enjoy some enemies to enemies with benefits lol.

and not a day went by where y/n didn’t compliment it.

like today, when y/n went to visit her while she was with her siblings.

she stepped into the tent and said hi to everyone before sitting beside kiri.

“your hair looks so shiny and nice today, kiri.” she said sweetly.

kiri looks up from the armband she’s making and smiled.

“that’s a new one. what was it last week? her hair was soft?” neteyam teased from his corner.

“shut up.” she muttered. he laughs and continues to sharpen his knife with tuk watching with immense interest for some reason.

she turns to kiri. “ignore him. he’s jealous because he can’t find a girlfriend.” kiri mutters.

the girls chuckle quietly before y/n looks down at the armband kiri was making.

“who’s this for? the one you have is pretty.” she said.

“oh, it’s not for me. it’s for… it’s a gift.” she said nervously.

kiri nods. what y/n didn’t know was that she was making it for her.

before y/n can ask something else, lo’ak walks in with spider.

y/n glared as the human boy smiled at kiri.

“hey, you guys wanna head to the lab?” lo’ak asked.

he shrugs. “i’m bored. i need to get away from dad anyways.”

“i’ll go.” y/n shrugged.

she huffed and glared at spider again. he just makes a face at her and stays next to lo’ak.

no one really knows when this rivalry between spider and y/n started, and neither do they.

i do though, because i’m the narrator.

it all started when they were kids, like eight years old, and they were playing in the sully’s old home in the forest and not in the hallelujah mountains.

y/n had picked a flower and wanted to give it to kiri but when she went to do so, spider had beaten her to it and gave her a flower just like the one y/n had.

ever since then, they’ve been endlessly petty and annoying, trying to one up each other with one common goal.

kiri’s love.

well, they’re both idiots and kiri thinks so too.

the kids, except for neteyam and tuk, ventured through the forest to the lab where the humans worked and lived.

they arrived at the lab that was brightly lit with white and blue. y/n always loved seeing the human inventions and learning about them.

and learning about devices from hundreds of years ago.

as they walked in, they took their masks with their air and put them up to their faces while spider took his off completely.

some scientists were walking around and they greeted the kids briefly before returning to their work.

kiri walked over to where her mother’s avatar was held. she sighed and placed both hands on the glass.

she stared at her mother, smiling, before turning to a computer to watch her video logs.

she found a video log and watched her mother talk about her research of pandora and the animals that live in the forest, how fascinated she was with everyday she learned more.

y/n, spider, and lo’ak find her after she had wandered away. spider leans against the glass that contained kiri’s mom, looking at kiri.

y/n takes notice and glances up at lo’ak. he rolls his eyes, he hates this jealousy thing between them.

he doesn’t understand how two people can hate each other this much over a girl.

i’ll never be obsessed with a girl like they are, he thought.

y/n glared at spider as she went to kiri’s side. her glare quickly turned to a smile when she put her hand on kiri’s shoulder.

“she is very beautiful.” she said quietly.

“yeah, she is.” kiri sighed. she looks up at the girl with a soft smile.

“what else did she talk about? like, here, she talks about the animals. what else?” she asked.

“oh, she talked about our culture a lot. i’ll have to find them. she was so passionate about us. it’s what i love most about her.” kiri said as she looked back at the screen to find another log.

as kiri is searching, max walks up to the little group. “hey, kids.”

“hello!” y/n smiled.

“‘sup max?” lo’ak greets.

“i got something cool i wanna show you guys. come on.” he said. he waved his hand, signaling for them to follow and the kids did so. 
the kids look at each other and then follow max to another part of the lab.

they enter another glass room with lab equipment on the counters. y/n found a skinny chair and plopped in it. the chair immediately went down because of how much bigger she was than a human.

she looked at the counter and max had picked up a cd player and placed it there.

“we recovered this in storage and fixed it up, so now you can mess with it. there’s still thousands of songs on it.” he said.

“what is it?” y/n asked, getting up from the spinny chair.

“a cd player. humans used this hundreds of years ago to listen to music. you’d just eject the thingy..” he presses a button and the idk holder slowly pulls out.

y/n watched in amazement as he takes a disk and placed it in the disk holder. he pressed a few more buttons before a low static emitted from the player.

it then started to play an old but popular tune.

the opening notes of “you don’t know my name” by alicia keys played.

y/n’s ears perked up at the sound. kiri takes notice and her heart pounds. she always found it adorable.

whenever y/n would see or notice something interesting, her ears go up and she would think it’s the cutest ever.

“whoaa..” she gasped.

“who’s singing? what’s her name?” kiri asked.

“oh, it’s uh.. alicia keys.” max says. he did a bit of research beforehand on the artists and the cds.

“alicia.. nice.” lo’ak mutters.

“her voice is amazing!” y/n said.

“i’ve heard better.” spider shrugs. y/n turns to look at him. she glared daggers at him but he just rolled his eyes and went to lean against the wall beside lo’ak.

y/n sighs and turns her attention to the music again.

“who’s she singing about? and why don’t they know her name?” lo’ak asked while chuckling.

“the song’s about alicia liking a boy and wants him to notice her but he doesn’t even acknowledge her, and doesn’t know her name.” max explained.

“oohhh..” kiri and lo’ak dragged.

“this is my new favorite song.” y/n smiled as she looked up at kiri.

“I bet she was hot.” lo’ak says.

“ugh. you’re such a boy.” kiri groaned.

lo’ak gasps dramatically. “oh my gosh, kiri, maybe, and hear me out… maybe it’s because i am one.”

y/n laughs at his response while kiri rolls her eyes.

“figured out the big secret guys.” he held his hands out like it was the biggest discovery on pandora.

max laughs. “and i have other ones if you wanna listen to them after this song.” max goes over to a cardboard box and pulls out a dusty old binder.

he places it on the counter next to the cd player and opens it up.

the pages were holders for cds and there were more by alicia keys and other artists of other genres.

“oouuhh..” y/n stands next to him and watches as he flips through.

as he did, she raised her oxygen mask up to her mouth and took a breath.

“there’s mariah carey, mary j. blige, snoh aalegra, uhh.. some of the newer ones like steve lacy, kali uchis, uhh.. s.. za?”

“why did humans have names with just a couple letters that don’t even go together?” y/n asked.

“i don’t know. but she made some very good songs. feel free to play those and listen.” he sighs out.

“hmm.. okay.” y/n mutters.

spider walks over as max leaves the room.

“you guys better not fight over what music we can play.” kiri scolded.

“i won’t start if he doesn’t.” y/n mumbled.

she looks at the girl and kiri’s giving a nasty glare. y/n’s ears drooped in fear and she shrugged.

“okay. fine.” she said quickly. kiri nods and her and her brother begin to mess around with the buttons on the cd player.

they play more music, discovering different genres and talking about which ones were their favorites.

lo’ak loved hip hip and r&b the most, and so did y/n. but she also liked pop music.

kiri discovered indie pop from one artist, lana del ray.

spider liked all of them except for country. none of them really liked the country music.

as spider and y/n were arguing over what they wanted to play next, tuk and neteyam came up to the room.

“hi!! oouu, what’s that?” tuk greeted.

“hey, it’s dinner time. we have to get home.” neteyam said as he stood on the outside of the doorway.

“hey, neteyam. look at this. it plays human music.” kiri told him.

“yep. great. i’m starving. so let’s go.” he said in a bland tone.

kiri rolls her eyes and looks back at the arguing besties.

“will you two stop? ugh, you give me a headache.” she snapped.

“it’s not my fault all he wants to play is trash.” y/n grumbled.

as she turned around to walk away, spider picked up a cd disk and was about to chuck it at y/n’s head but lo’ak caught his wrist.

“she’ll kill you, bro. just stop.” he muttered. spider snatched his wrist back and put the cd into It’s pocket in the binder.

the kids said their goodbyes and went back home to eat dinner.

they arrived at the village just before eclipse and y/n said her goodbyes so she could eat with her own family.

“i had fun today. bye, kiri.” she sighed as the rest of the kids went into the tent.

“me too. but wait, you and spider really need to get along. why do you guys hate each other anyway?” she asked y/n.

y/n’s heart drops ten feet. she turns to face kiri with a shy smile.

“uhh.. it’s stupid, i mean.. i don’t even remember.” she shrugged.

“seriously? then why can’t you put your differences aside?”

“because he’s so annoying. he gets on my nerves all the time.” she complained.

kiri sighs and takes y/n’s hands. “promise me you’ll try to get along with him. so we can all hang out together.”

y/n looks at kiri’s hands and then up at her.

“okay. promise.” she nodded.

this girl had fallen hard for kiri.

surely, the next day, y/n was her nicest to spider, even after all the annoying things he said or did.

“why are you being so nice to me?” he asked as their group were waking through the forest back to the lab.

y/n shrugs. “i just got tired of the arguing.”

she smiled at him and then went to catch up with kiri.

Also like…yeah.. they’ve got zero concrete proof that voit was/is sicarius. That’s the thing with criminal minds, they NEVER follow past the point of arrest. 90% of their unsubs would end up in mental health facilities or be able to plead not guilty by reason of mental defect. That’s why the show worked so well prior to evolution, we didn’t deal with that much of the political side of it, the team went home and we all just imagined the unsubs went to prison (if they weren’t killed). There would be no way voit would end up charged with this shit unless they had a TON more of evidence.

LOVE rossi & prentiss’ little tiff that’s really just them watching out for each other and making sure they know the other person still has their back.

On the other side, I’m still not sure whether I’m leaning toward Rebecca or tara’s side. I love them both and will forever be made about the killing the gays trope holding up so we’ll see how the season goes..

Like, last season it was a little off imo of Garcia, but we’re what? Halfway through episode one and I don’t EVER remember seeing Penelope like this, she keeps saying “I broke up with him” GURL, you WERE NEVER TOGETHER. You kissed twice, you helped him through a public drunk/hangover, you banged and Emily went “dude wtf call it off” and you ended it. She’s acting like a love drunk highschooler who’s been pining after this guy for months…

I am REALLY liking getting to see this much prentiss and rossi in the first 2 eps, I saw a tweet or something bout how paget really got to shine in the first 2 eps and that’s so true. HOWEVER, that makes me stressed that she’s got a ton of screen time in the first couple of eps cause of whatever happens to her later on and her being kidnapped/going rogue or whatever happens that has her nearly blown up/injured in the promo shots we’ve seen.

Also okay, listen, Paget’s incredible. She’s been doing this same role for… let’s say 12 years, she’s stepped away to other jobs and come back to CM, the show’s been cancelled and then renewed and she’s still managing to play it perfectly, keep the character the same, her line delivery, her body language, she just slips right back into it and her acting never deviates (unlike some other actors in similar situations). Her talking to that kid was PURE Emily from earlier seasons.

Like obvi she’s gonna be focused on that cause of bailey’s death and her denial of working with voit and wanting to solve that case but… still.. yup… no gold star.. not totally surprised. HOWEVER would NOT be surprised that the same trope comes out later in the season, that they’re working something else and Emily is second guessing herself/dave gives her a look and she’s all “yeah you’re right, I was wrong last time.” And doesn’t believe herself and BAM it actually is gold star and maybe that’s what draws her into the field on her own or whatever.

The appeal of the ship in general is mutual respect and trust, not needing to hide/change anything and their shared traditional Japanese aesthetic. My favourite part of any ship is the pining, so I tend to lean heavily towards bitter-sweet outcomes / one-sided ships. Yamamoto Takeshi is so compatible! He's friendly, caring and clever! But Hibari? Oh no. He hates authority figures. He hates being tied down and restricted. He hates weaklings. He hates owing people. Contradictions are confusing. He hates so many things, it makes it hard for him to really bond. Everyone treats Hibari like he's this troublesome delinquent (I mean, HE IS) or someone to be feared. Most reactions to him are: "EEEE, it's Hibari!" (cowers), "Ugh, this guy." (done), etc. Yamamoto seems to be the only one who is genuinely happy to see him at all. He's also the only one that's happy to hear that Hibari has gotten stronger and even says he wants to fight him again (i-is he a m-masochist?). The point I'm trying to make is that: Yamamoto doesn't want Hibari to change or to behave in this way or that way. He doesn't try to 'fix' Hibari's behaviour and accepts him as is and likes him for that. And I think Hibari reciprocates (mostly) those feelings too. But because Yamamoto is so popular, and Hibari is a moron, I think for the most part, Hibari would sit there pining and pining and pining. He doesn't know how to love or be loved, so this longing feeling and this desire to watch over Yamamoto is very ??? Which is why I tend to lean for a very 18->80 approach.

Admittedly, I have a tough time writing dominant muses but the Hibari that lives in my brain is very much a needy weirdo. He gets cuteness aggression towards Yamamoto LOL. Hibari and Yamamoto both like fighting. Yamamoto can keep up with Hibari and vice versa. I think Yamamoto would be a good influence to Hibari too, gently challenging him about opinions here and there. Overall a solid ship and I will not shut up about them if given the chance (Exhibit A)

Overall this story was INCREDIBLE. I loved the writing style, such a good amount of angst, and an easy to follow narrative. It raised Harry like exactly how I wanted and was so cutey and sweetly and UGH. I will say I wish there was more to the plot than “everyone is sad and trying to not be anymore”While that is a completely reasonable story, it does make it a little boring. But because this fic is fairly short it works out alright. My only true criticism is going to be on the pacing. I am not sure at all when Harry and Remus were introduced to each other, or how far after that Sirius came into their lives. I also think Harry and Sirius’ connection, while amazing, was a bit unrealistic at the beginning. For a child with this much past to IMMEDIATELY latch onto someone like this is kinda wild, but it works for the story so no big deal honestly. I think characterizations were good, not great. However, this is a situation we haven’t seen marauders in and I’m not super familiar with how marauders are usually characterized outside of reading the books and watching movies, so I’d reevaluate characterization stuff once im more engrossed in the fandom.

This is something I just thought about while adding tags, having moody in this fic was nice. He's a character I'd like to see more out of what I've read so far in marauders

Bc I know it’s a joke but it kinda encapsulates my feelings about the reception of this movie.

Like I thought while watching Challengers that it was playing on the 80s trope of a women getting in the way of a homoerotic relationship bc Hollywood didn’t like the gays. But, the fact that it never actually was brave enough to act on the subtext makes it just another example of the trope, even if it is aware of it. Which is what this tag made me spiral about. Exactly— they didn’t even show anything. The kiss was literally unintentional which is good build up but like…that was it. It felt like an empty scene that doesn’t have any tangible repercussions. Like the kiss should have had a ripple effect across the film but nah. It’s just…left there.

I liked the movie. Everyone was hot, the camera work is genuinely jaw dropping, and I love messy, complex character studies (don’t get me started on ppl who exclusively hate on Art I stg). But it isn’t revolutionary for queer rep. It isn’t even good polyamory rep!! I’ve seen so many takes being like “finally a film where a love triangle ends up in the girl getting both guys”. NO. SHE CHEATS ON HER HUSBAND. I love when characters devolve and are complex, but no. She isn’t a girlboss with two boyfriends. Like it just straight up isn’t polyamory without communication. It isn’t even attempted polyamory. It’s just cheating. Which, again, the movie isn’t claiming it isn’t. I just hate the reception of it. Ugh.

But that’s the thing. You could cut Art and Patrick’s kiss and the own frame of bisexual tinder and nothing would change. That isn’t good queer rep. And I’m not saying to have good gay rep there needs to be happy endings or that you can’t have subtext, but goddamnit gay subtext to just make your movie edgy is so fkn 2010s. It did feel like the movie didn’t genuinely want to show a friendship that slowly becomes tainted by mutual pining and internalized homophobia. It just wants to use queerness as a garnish to comment on humanity or whatever. Which is not new. Fucking Gatsby did this.

The difference between real rep and not is resolution. Resolving the queerness doesn’t need to be positive or negative or whatever— it needs to be addressed. It just feels so dated to leave it to tumblr to directly call it gay.

I’m just tired of queerness being used as a motif vs a human fucking experience. It isn’t just decoration for your indie film it’s an entire identity and culture.

And I liked the movie!!! I genuinely did. I just don’t think it’s right to let Hollywood think that is good queer rep.

him and Stefan butt heads the whole time he's along for the journey but when the bard is gravely injured it’s revealed how much he cares for the prince. The prince too has fallen for the bard and rides off with him to the nearest village to a healer

My Only 12% (Fri iQIYI) 13 of 14 - Cake is such a bratty seme. And we got incandescently happy boyfriends for half an episode, and then Earth gets to cry. Earth always cries. Good thing he’s pretty at it. I do actually like the noona romance. Sometimes even the hets get to me. Because I'm a sap. And I love a pining younger man. I actually really really loved the bit at the end with the two mothers. It’s really rare to see that level of older adult character representation and close female friendship in a BL.

Big Dragon (Sat Gaga) 5 of 8 - Oh, I knew this was going to get rough but I didn’t think they would actually fist fight. It’s interesting that this one is up against Falanruk, because I hated the two player system in that one, but I’m fine with it in this show. There’s a touch of TharnType or maybe more KinnPorsche with Mangkorn & Yai, that they pivot so quickly from violence to sex, hate to passion. Real enemies to lovers with all that bottled up passion destined to explode one way or the other. The sex in this show is similarly treated as a kind of violence, in a kinky way. Also it’s v high heat. But from a romance thread standpoint? The way these two are dodging about each other is just frustrating. Also... NO SINGING! 

Ai Long Nhai (Mon iQIYI) 6 of 10 - Baby’s first jealousy. But omg is this show slow. I think it’s fair for Ai to want Nhai to actually say something positive about their relationship. I like that these 2 talk fully about sex before having it. And now it’s a secret relationship. (I do keep imagining what Mike & TT would have done with these roles.) Oh HI Games! (Second Chance). Hard Love Mission (Sat WeTV) 3 of 4fin - Phenomenally dull Thai pulp about a journalist sent to interview a celebrity who ends up his manager, only 4 episodes and it still could’ve been shorter. It’s a bummer, the concept wasn’t bad. ALSO Chinese censorship got its gross mitts all over it (thank you, Tencent). Do not waste your time. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I’M WATCHING AND NEITHER DOES IT 3/10 

Work from Heart (Thurs YouTube) 7fin - Just lovely, all the hets are getting married! How rare and special of them. How lucky they are. But I have no idea what’s going on with our leads. It’s very Romeo & Romeo allasudden. And the grandpa is v confusingly evil. Great chemistry, but like Check Out, just a terrible story and an ultimately unfathomable BL. 4/10 FATALLY FLAWED

I identify WAY too much with the bartender character. He pretty much opens his mouth and says what I’m thinking 90% of the time.

Roommates of Poongduck 304 (Korea Thurs Viki) 7-8fin. Ah regrets after a drunken gay pass. Also: killer confrontation confession scene with them both so torn and confused and hurt and unsure! Brilliant. It’s so cute after, with them soft & cute with each other as experimental bfs. JaeYun having fangirls was adorbs, and HoJoon dealing with the resulting jealousy was fun to watch. Also HoJoon is so gone and so inept and uncool about it. And then JaeYoon learns who HoJoon really is. Man this show moves FAST. Ah KBL. I wish we had more time with these characters. I would have liked sweet bfs for longer. And Holland is back, such an adorable plot device. Hi, cutie! The reconciliation/confession was good. How much do I love that the final make-out scene was precipitated by the eroticism of informal language? SO MUCH. V linguistically sexy. FInal review below. 

Kabe Koji (Japan Mon Viki) 5 of 10 - This is going to be weird sounding coming from me but I think what I’ve decided that this show is just too much manga. Not yaoi per say but MANGA. Like, aggressively MANGA. I was thinking as I watched, “This singing group is comically bad.” Then I realized, “Oh that’s intentional, like the credit sequences for ABL - they are meant to be.” And then I realized: Every part of this show is a parody. Not the same as ABLon the whole, but similar in its components: The idol group is a parody of all idol groups. The high school drama is a parody of all high school dramas. The otaku mangaka is a parody of all otaku mangaka. The yaoi is a parody of all yaoi. And the BL of all BL. In the end, this entire show is just Japan messing with us. And frankly I’m beginning to enjoy it for that when I actually dont’ enjoy it as a BL at all. Again, like ABL.  

Eternal Yesterday AKA Eien no Kino (Japan Thurs Gaga) 3 of 8 - I do enjoy the credit music on this one. Backstory ep: so we get to watch them fall in love. Goodie. Pain for all! Or more, watch Mitchan fall and be confused, since Koichi is already utterly gone. Argh! Why does Japan always spend its best pennies on pain? A truly glorious confession scene, and then... a dead fish kiss. For which I’m actually strangely grateful. Frankly, if they also managed the physical chemistry in this show, it’d totally destroy me. Roommates of Poongduck 304 (Korea Viki) quick pitch:

This is a solid little office set KBL about a rich kid who ends up both the boss and tenant of a total sweetheart cutie, and falls madly in love with him. Although the show suffered from KBL’s shorter length, I love the kissable lips pair, they deliver solid all round chemistry despite limited screen time, which is rare from Korea. So I hope they stay branded and we get even more from them in the future. Ultimately I recommend this show, a solid  8/10.

If Japan didn’t dominate the office BL niche with shows like Cherry Magic and Old Fashion Cupcake this BL probably would get higher marks for me. But it’s a difficult hill to climb (although I’m delighted to see Korea try). Even though Japan and Korea often give us the same length shows, I feel the brevity in the Korean stuff in a way that I don’t with the Japanese stuff. Frankly I think it’s Japan’s sophisticated cinematography facilitating the complexity required by shortness (what’s left out has to be implied by the lens and the acting) where Korea’s more commercial and simplistic style (which works great in longer Kdramas or something like Light On Me) falls short (pun intended) with their short KBLs.

So. The longer I got into the book, the more I disliked Dylan. Instead of having an actual conversation with Reece, she'd rather let gossip and her own spiraling thoughts guide their relationship. Age differences don't usually bother me, but this seems like more of a maturity disparity than there would normally be. And it's what, 6 years?

When things were going well, the relationship was cute! It worked! Dylan and Reece have great chemistry. But I needed Dylan to be an actual adult and have an actual conversation with her not!boyfriend.

I wonder how the book would have been different if we had gotten Reece's perspective, too.

Honestly, my favorite part of the whole story was the "Goddamn it, Billy" bit. Joey, my darling. I, too, am a romantic gay, utterly in love with a not-terribly-romantic man. We gotta stick together.
