car seat
@steddiemicrofic
written for ‘prompt: time’ wc: 485 | rated: m | cw: first time, steve harrington has bad parents, bottom steve harrington, top eddie munson. ✨️
"Steve, love, this is a bad idea."
Steve didn't respond, he unbuttoned Eddie's pants quickly, and with effort he tried to pull them down but Eddie stopped him by kissing his neck but Steve didn't want to stop. Eddie smiled and pulled his hair, Steve moaned and opened his eyes in surprise, only that way he could stop.
"We don't have time, Eddie, I have to get home before my parents notice my absence."
Steve had run away from home, his parents had returned to give a Christmas party that would allow them to show false altruism after the Hawkins earthquake. Steve was fed up, and when his dad sarcastically told him to smile because it was the most wonderful time of the year, he decided he had to run away.
Eddie squeezed Steve's ass, allowing himself to feel it, as if he wanted to imprint the rough feel of the jeans in his hands.
"I'm not going to fuck you in a car seat, it's something we'll do eventually, but your first time with a man" Eddie paused a little and kissed Steve's hand, then placed it on his chest, "our first time together has to be special."
Steve looked at him, surprised with tears in his eyes. No one had ever made him feel so special. He used to make girls' first times special, he treated them gently and made them feel great until they cried with pleasure, that's where his reputation came from but no one had ever cared about him, not even himself, he gave himself to sexuality as a very young man.
"Please," Steve whispered, shifting his body in his boyfriend's lap, "I need you"
"Stevie, don't do this to me," Eddie whispered, savouring Steve's every move, "I'll hurt you."
Steve placed soft kisses all over Eddie's face, enjoying the sensation on his lips and on his body. He leaned close to his ear and whispered:
"You won't. I locked myself in my room before going down to dinner and touched myself thinking of you."
Eddie looked him straight in the eye. Any little self-control he had achieved disappeared in that instant. He quickly unbuttoned Steve's pants and pulled them down, then did the same with his own.
Steve caught his boyfriend's lips, while he introduced a finger at his entrance, Steve gasped with surprise when he felt it, Eddie bit the other boy's lower lip when he felt how open he was.
After a brief preparation Eddie gave him, he introduced his cock inside Steve, who moaned at the intrusion, it sounded as if someone had hit his stomach and in his face Eddie could see the ecstasy he felt.
Eddie wanted to savor it but he knew there was no time to waste, he began to move quickly as Steve chased the sensation by moving his hips.
That was the first time Eddie saw Steve melt with pleasure.
🕸🕸
It's funny but it's also the first time I participated in a challenge in Steddie's fandom or any fandom. I hope you like it, thank you very much if you read it 💗.

No upside down au. Thinking about Eddie being a single dad of a 3 year old in a shit neighborhood with shit neighbors.
Thinking about Eddie "ADHD" Munson having an absolute ADHD on steroids child, who really, really struggles with emotional regulation, and regularly cries (and screams. and throws things. and more) because they're so overwhelmed.
Thinking about the shit neighbors seeing this, seeing the sheer ball of energy that his kid is, and immediately calling CPS because 'trash like Eddie shouldn't be around here anyway'.
Thinking about Social Worker Steve turning up, right when Eddie's bean is in the middle of a meltdown. There's screaming, floods of tears, and from the outside, it genuinely sounds like someone has been murdered.
Steve knocks, and there's a massive delay before the door is opened, but he's okay with that. Through the thin door, he can hear Eddie talking in a low, soothing voice, trying to regulate his child. It's quickly established this is not a murder situation, but a 'my banana broke and fell on the floor' situation. He's warm, funny, and every word is bathed in affection. It's clear to Steve that this child is just very emotionally invested and Eddie regularly does this.
Eventually, the door is opened, toddler burrowed into Eddie's neck and hair (which is 3 times larger than it would be normally, thanks to the stress), and Steve finds himself drawing on every ounce of professionalism he has not to swoon at how beautiful this man is, and how wonderfully loving he is to his child. He hates that he has to tell him where he's from.
Eddie's mouth flattens into a thin line and, child or not, Steve's sure that if he was alone, Eddie would have been cursing enough to make a sailor blush. But he invites him in, composed, and Steve does his best to get through the assessment as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Thinking about Steve bending the rules for Eddie. Recognising how incredible he is as a dad, and that he just needs more support. Thinking about him being honest about his findings, apologising for the intrusion, but offering him support around 'parenting' where they have 1-2-1 sessions, and will basically just become even bigger menaces to the neighborhood. Things like setting up a sandpit so when things need to be thrown, nothing breaks. A chalkboard on the outside wall, so paint, crayons, chalk, whatever can be flung there (or rude pictures can be drawn 'innocently'). Anything they can to make Eddie and bean more visible and louder, in the hopes the complaining bitches will move.
Just thinking about someone understanding how hard it is to parent an ADHD child and recognising how fucking brilliant Eddie is doing, and giving him someone on his side. Also thinking about how ADHD behaviours are Not 'naughty' and don't need to be punished, and giving someone in Eddie's corner whilst he's trying to explain that to people.
And they fall in love, of course.

Christmas Love | Steddie
Summary: Eddie's unexpected shift change disrupts their Christmas Day plans, but he makes it up to Steve by turning the night into a special memory with a romantic surprise.
Word count: 2,498
AO3 LINK
It was a cold but enchanting December afternoon. Hawkins looked like a cross-section of Santa's village, dressed in the quiet splendor of winter. Every corner of the town was buzzing with the joy of the coming Christmas. Children were enjoying the snow in their thick coats and colorful scarves. Some were engaged in snowball fights, their laughter echoing in the cold air. Others were building snowmen with big noses and crooked hats in gardens and park corners. One, with a carrot stuck in his nose, stood there like a sorcerer smiling at the joy of the children.
The streets were illuminated by lights hanging from the facade of each house. Colored lamps floated over the edges of roofs, wrapped around garden fences and around pine trees reaching for the sky, making them shine like stars. From the windows of some houses, the tender glow of decorated pine trees spilled out, and the flickering lamps set the rhythm of this quiet village.
The Christmas market in the center of town was another matter. Small wooden huts were elaborately decorated as if they were fairy tale houses. The stalls overflowed with the scents of gingerbread cookies, hot chocolate and freshly roasted chestnuts. Families wandered around the souvenir stalls, hot drinks in hand, while children stood admiring baskets full of toys. A man dressed as Santa Claus stood on a small dais waving to children and calling out “Ho ho ho!”. The sky was covered in a white blanket, mesmerized by the slow drifting snowflakes. The wind blew gently, rustling the branches of the pine trees.
The wind blew his hair out of his face as Eddie set his coffee mug down on the edge of the little cottage. His old but comfortable coat did little to protect his back from the cold air of the Christmas market. The sky was colored in the orange and pink hues of the setting sun, and Eddie sighed and stared at the sight for a moment.
Another family approached him, their little boy, no more than 5 years old, clapping his hands excitedly and examining the pine trees. Eddie helped them with his usual fake sales smile. “I think that big one is for you. It's got plenty of branches to hang your lights from, and it smells wonderful,” he said as he lifted the tree he was pointing to. He was feeling very tired. When the family thanked him, bought the tree and walked away, Eddie took a deep breath. As he listened to the sound of the few dollars he had put in the safe, he thought about how this job had become a struggle for survival for him. Performing at the Hideout at night seemed to be the only thing he could cling to. But the hours spent cold in the morning among the pine trees... That made his fatigue unbearable. He knew it would be hard to do double work, but there were times when he didn't even have time to sleep, and he tried not to let his uncle know how tired he was. This was harder than working all the time.
His eyes drifted to the horizon. “At least I have the night off,” he muttered to himself, a tired smile appearing on his lips. He thought about Christmas with Steve. Maybe they would watch a movie, maybe they would cook together. The important thing was that he was there for him. Just the thought of it was enough to warm him.
Just then, his boss approached him with quick steps. Tugging at the collar of his thick coat, he leaned toward Eddie. “Hey, Munson,” he said. “Bad news. Sarah just hurt her foot. We're gonna need overtime. You're staying the night.” The look of peace on Eddie's face was instantly replaced by distress. “But... I'm off tonight,” he countered, his voice cracking a little. The boss shrugged. “I know, but I need someone else. You get double pay, Christmas spirit and all that. You'll get extra tips. Just hang in a little longer.”
Eddie shuddered inside. As tempting as the double paycheck was, he couldn't get his promise to Steve out of his mind. He didn't want to see his look of disappointment. But this extra money... it could be used to help his uncle.
He sighed involuntarily as his shoulders slumped. “Of course, what else can I do,” he grumbled in a low voice.
Family Video was in full swing towards the end of the day. “I want this day to be done, my feet are about to rebel,” Steve said to Robin as he quickly assisted the customers waiting in line behind the cash register. Robin rolled her eyes as she walked back to the shelves but couldn't hide the smile at the corner of her lips. “Stop using your feet as an excuse, you want it done now because you're spending the night with Eddie.” Steve shrugged as he bagged a DVD for a customer. “You're right, but can you blame me for that? He works so hard that I've almost forgotten my boyfriend's face.’’ He rolled his eyes sarcastically. ’’Tonight everything will be perfect. Maybe we'll have something to eat, walk around a bit. And I have a little surprise for him.’’ Robin's eyebrows rose. “A surprise? What kind of surprise?” When the clock finally struck closing, he took a deep breath and turned to Robin. ’’We were supposed to meet at home, but now I'm going to pick him up, stop by the Christmas market. And I bought these for him…’’ He held up a small bouquet and showed it to Robin.
Robin shook her head with a laugh. “You're so silly when you try to be romantic. Anyway, Merry Christmas.’’ She gave him a warm hug.
By the time Steve stepped outside, it was already dark and the streets of Hawkins were lit up with Christmas lights. As he got into his car and started the engine, he gazed out over the peaceful landscape of the town. The twinkling lights in the windows of the houses and the snow-covered gardens created a fairy-tale atmosphere. Children were still playing in the gardens and having snowball fights in the streets. As an old Christmas carol played on the radio, Steve gripped the steering wheel with a warm smile. When he arrived at the Christmas market, he watched the activity among the pine trees.
Eddie, tired but still looking so handsome, was helping the customers. His coat didn't seem to be keeping out the cold air.
As Steve waited for Eddie to see a customer off, he straightened his bouquet of flowers, ran his fingers through his hair and combed it with his fingers. As soon as Eddie dismissed the customer with a smile, Steve quickly stepped behind him and hugged him unexpectedly. “Ho ho ho, Munson!” he said, his voice full of joy.
Eddie was startled at first and then smiled, letting himself go. “Steve?” he murmured, as if he thought the moment was a dream. “What the hell is this?” Steve winked as he handed him the bouquet of flowers. “I wanted to surprise you. It's just the two of us tonight, remember?” As Eddie took the bouquet, the tiredness on his face gave way for a brief moment to a glowing happiness. Eddie hugged him tightly and inhaled his beloved scent into his lungs. But then he sighed and looked into Steve's eyes. “I wish... but something happened,” he said slowly. Steve's brow furrowed. “What are you talking about?” Eddie averted his eyes and gestured with his hand, “My boss asked me to work overtime. I was supposed to have the night off but... things changed,” he said, his voice full of regret.
Steve's smile faded slightly when he heard what Eddie had said, but he quickly recovered. “Okay, I understand why you have to stay here,” he said, trying to keep his voice as cheerful as possible. He didn't want to upset Eddie. He handed the bouquet of flowers to Eddie and added, “ Maybe I can help you a little? What do you think?” Eddie looked into Steve's eyes and couldn't help but realize how disappointed he was. Gently, he put his arms around Steve's shoulders and hugged him tightly. “Thank you. But it's so cold here, I don't want you to get cold. Go home,” he whispered. “Don't worry, I'll come home even if it's late, I promise.” Steve nodded slightly and rubbed Eddie's cheeks. “Okay,” he said, trying to smile. “I'll be waiting for you then.”
As Steve drove back, Hawkins' Christmas lights no longer seemed so bright to him. As he drove in silence, Christmases of the past flashed before his eyes like a movie. Those long, unpleasant dinners where his parents talked about his life... Those moments when they planned his future without asking him anything. For him, Christmas was often more synonymous with disappointment than peace.
When he arrived home, the lights were off and everything was quiet. He sat in the old, comfortable armchair opposite the fireplace and listened to the crackle of the flames, sinking into the warmth of the room. The heavy burden of loneliness began to weigh on him more and more with each passing minute. As the clock ticked, his eyes slowly closed as he sat in front of the fireplace with a hot drink in his hand.
When Eddie quietly entered the house, the air had grown colder into the night. He stepped inside, everything seemed peaceful and calm. Steve was sitting on the couch, holding the mug in his hand, fast asleep. Eddie's tired footsteps did not echo around the room. With hands shaking from the chill in the air, he slowly took off his coat and hung it carefully on the coat rack.
His eyes shifted to Steve; the beauty of the moment made him forget all his tiredness. He had wanted to spend the night with Steve, but he had to spend extra hours at work.
He came to Steve's bedside and looked at him carefully. Running his hands through Steve's hair, he kissed his head lightly.
As Eddie carefully draped the blanket over Steve, the gentle rustling of the blanket woke him from his slumber. Steve's eyelids fluttered open, trying to squint against the pale light of the fireplace. He blinked a few times and finally focused on Eddie. Eddie was on his knees, looking up at him with a guilty smile.
“Hey, sleepyhead,” Eddie said, his voice warm and soft.
Steve rubbed his eyes and sat up as the blanket slid off his shoulders. “Eddie? What time is it?” His voice still carried the weight of sleep.
“Late,” Eddie admitted, running a hand through his messy hair. ”But I couldn't let tonight end like this.”
Steve cocked his head to the side, puzzled but curious. “What do you mean?”
Eddie stood up and held out his hand. “Get dressed. I have a surprise for you.”
Steve looked skeptical but couldn't help the small smile that spread across his lips. “Where are we going?”
“You'll see,” Eddie said with a mischievous twinkle in his eye . “Now hurry up, or I might change my mind.”
A few minutes later, wrapped in thick coats and scarves, they stepped out into the cold Hawkins night. The streets were eerily quiet, the town resting under the freshly fallen snow. Eddie held Steve's hand tightly, oblivious to the snow crunching gently beneath his feet.
“Eddie,” Steve finally said, unable to suppress his curiosity any longer, ”where are we going at this hour?”
Eddie smiled but didn't answer, instead leading them away from the main streets and into a more secluded part of town. Out of the darkness, the silhouette of the old opera house appeared. Slightly dilapidated, but still stately, it contrasted with the snow-covered ground.
“Wait,” Steve said, halting his steps. “The opera house? Eddie, it's been closed for years.”
Eddie turned to him, his smile turning shy. “Exactly. No one's been here. Isn't that great?”
He pulled a key out of his pocket, unlocked the side door and gestured for Steve to come in.
“Okay, now I'm really impressed - but I'm a little worried about how you got the key,” Steve teased as he stepped inside.
“Let's just say I know someone,” Eddie said, winking.
Inside the opera house was as silent as the grave, only the moonlight filtering through the broken windows illuminating the vast space. Dust particles danced in the air, allowing the place to retain its splendor despite the decay. Rows of velvet-covered seats stretched out towards the stage, and a grand piano stood center stage, gently glowing in the moonlight.
Eddie led Steve to the stage, his steps light but determined. “Wait here, ” he said, gesturing for Steve to sit on the edge of the stage.
Before Steve could ask any more questions, Eddie made his way to the piano, gently wiping the dust from the keys with his hand. He sat down at the piano and ran his long fingers over the keys. He looked at Steve, his cheeks slightly pink.
“Well... I've never done this to anyone before,” Eddie said, his voice almost a whisper.
Steve's eyes widened. “You playing the piano?”
Eddie nodded. “I taught myself a little bit when I was little. It's not very cool, but...” He took a deep breath and started playing.
The first notes were soft and timid, but as Eddie's confidence grew, the melody grew richer and more beautiful. The music filled the large hall, enveloping them in a warm embrace. Steve was completely mesmerized as he watched Eddie's hands move gracefully over the keys.
When the piece ended, Eddie looked up and his dark eyes met Steve's. “What do you think?” he asked, his voice low but determined.
Steve didn't answer immediately. Instead, he got up from the edge of the stage and walked over to Eddie. “I think,” he said softly, embracing him gently, ”that you are full of surprises. And I think I love you even more than I already do.”
Eddie laughed lightly, resting his forehead against Steve's. “Come on, my sweetheart,” he whispered as he pulled Steve toward the open area of the stage. ”Dance with me.”
Steve hesitated for a moment, but then he let Eddie. They moved in unison to an imaginary tune, the echo of the piano melody still in the air. The world outside disappeared, leaving only them, two lovers spinning slowly in the moonlight.
When they stopped moving, Eddie leaned down and gently touched his lips to Steve's. The warmth of the kiss banished the chill of the night, leaving them both breathless and glowing.
“Merry Christmas, Stevie,” Eddie whispered.
Steve smiled, wrapping his arms tighter around Eddie. “Merry Christmas, Eddie.”
In that moment, nothing else mattered. The hardships of the day, the weight of their responsibilities - it all melted away and all that was left was love and the quiet magic of the night.

Eddie is desperate to graduate. Really, it's something he wants to achieve so, so bad. And he's really close this time. It's not like he's stupid, not at all, he's really smart. But for the life of him, he can't seem to sit down and focus for more than a few minutes at a time before he gets incredibly bored and fidgety.
Because, let's face it, sitting down and revising is really fucking boring when Eddie would rather be doing literally anything else, and nothing seems to motivate him enough despite his drive to pass his exams to finally graduate.
Enter Steve, who comes up with a very creative plan to motivate Eddie.
He doesn't tell Eddie about his plan, just invites him over one evening for a study session. Eddie shows up with no intention to get any actual studying done.
Eddie walks up to Steve's room and bursts out laughing at the doorway, because Steve is standing there, wearing layers upon layers of clothes and looks like the fucking Michelin Man made of sweaters.
"Stevie, what the hell is this?" Eddie asks, barely holding in his laughter.
"I'm gonna be your motivation to study", Steve answers with a confident smirk on his face.
"And how are you gonna do that, hm?" Eddie questions, slowly approaching Steve.
Steve just lets Eddie watch him for a while, gives him time to get over his amusement, before he speaks up.
"Every time you get a question right, you can remove a piece of clothing off of me."
That makes Eddie stop in his tracks, suddenly very interested, the tip of his tongue darting out to wet his lips as his imagination runs wild.
"So by the time we're out of questions", Steve continues, but Eddie hurries to interrupt him by finishing his thought for him: "You're gonna be out of clothes."
"Exactly", Steve muses, grinning at Eddie, proud.
"Fuck, baby", Eddie sighs.
"Yeah, that'll be your reward", Steve snickers, pleased with his plan after Eddie's reaction.
Eddie lets out a dramatic groan before he slumps to sit down at the desk Steve points at so that they can get right to work.
It feels like hours upon hours of torturous teasing as Eddie forces himself to focus, and Steve keeps him in check when he gets a question wrong but still tries to sneakily trick Steve into stripping.
He keeps getting closer and closer to his reward with each correct answer, though. And it's always a sweet victory.
But it gets harder the less clothes Steve is left with, until Eddie's achingly hard in his jeans while Steve stands next to him in nothing but his underwear, waiting patiently.
It takes everything in Eddie to focus on that last question, a stupid fucking math problem that turns out to be easy-peasy and he gets it right. Before Steve can even open his mouth to congratulate him on this very successful study session, Eddie is tugging him closer and grabbing at his underwear.
"You're gonna pass with flying colors, Eddie", Steve hums as Eddie bends him over the desk where he has just been so viciously tortured all evening long.
Steve spreads his legs wide open and Eddie parts Steve's cheeks to find Steve's been plugged up and ready to go the whole time.
"Jesus fucking Christ, Stevie, you're such a tease", Eddie moans, undoing his jeans and getting his aching hard cock out. "You're gonna be the death of me", he groans as he slowly tugs the plug out, listening to Steve moan softly, as Eddie admires Steve's wet hole and strokes his straining cock.
"Told you I was gonna be your reward", Steve all but purrs, and that's the only coherent thing he can say before Eddie fucks him six ways to Sunday for the rest of that night.

Rockstar!Eddie who, after rehab, returns home. Have support as he tries to make this time stick (he's also pretty positive Wayne will actually kill him if his assistant Nancy doesn't first). He's told to try some healthy habits.
So Eddie tries to be good. Decides he'd try yoga, cause that's the last place anyone would expect to find him (not that people recognize him much outside of his stage makeup and costuming).
And it's fine. The instructor is nice and takes pity on him, practically staying with him the whole time. Talks his ear off, but it helps distract him from the muscles he didn't realize he had that ache as he stretches.
His hands are flat on the ground, trying to do a downward dog position. "Hips up," a male voice calls. "You're not even an instructor!" The girl snaps, before lightly touching Eddie's hips to position him correctly. He glances up, ready to mouth off to the man but-
He's a fucking God on earth. A male Adonis. Truly a perfect specimen. Hair pushed back that Eddie wants to run his hands through. That tiny waist, slightly shown off in a muscle tank, oh God Eddie can see chest hair and a hint of abs and-
Eddie's hands slip out from under him. Face crashing into the floor. The startled yelp he lets out rivals the instructor's. He simultaneously can't feel his face and also feels way too much of it.
Eddie can feel strong hands grab his shoulders, carefully turning him, one large hand cradling the back of his neck for support. He peers up into the concerned, hazel eyes of the Hottest Man On Earth.
"Holy shit, you okay?" The man asks, fingers lightly touching Eddie's nose. He can feel it already swelling and blood start to come out of it. "Definitely broken," the man sighs and frowns down at Eddie," You okay otherwise? Lightheaded, dizzy, seeing stars?"
"I think I just fell for you." Eddie replies, causing the instructor to snort and laugh as the Loveliest Most Handsome Man blushes.

STOP SCROLLING
So imagine Eddie being really good with kids. And in the trailer park they always go to him when their bikes are broken or need advice. And Eddie is just there, in his porch with a cigarette fixing this little girl bicycle while the rest of his little friends are just sitting there waiting for eddie to finish. But he also fix toys and gives them cool patches when they make a hole on a jacket or something.
And then in Halloween they all gather around him to hear scary stories and they absolutely love how Eddie just acts them out.
And I don't know, maybe Steve goes to pick him up one day for a thing with the party and he just stops and stares as Eddie is trying to make a toy robot function again while a girl is doing little braids in his hair and a boy is just patiently waiting for his toy. And Steve is just in love.
And now I need a fanfic about this.

It's 1991, and everyone is crazy about Nirvana. Eddie is no exception, he's been playing their recent album non-stop, he and Jonathan spend hours talking about how amazing Kurt Cobain is.
"I miss when our boyfriends had different musical tastes," said Steve to Nancy, as they watched them.
"I think it's great after we spent half of the last decade listening to them fight over defending their musical tastes," exclaimed Nancy, "don't be so jealous."
"Excuse me but Jon already stole a girlfriend from me, I don't want him to steal a boyfriend too."
Nancy gave him a little punch in the arm and sat down where both boys were. Steve was obviously joking he didn't think Jon had stolen anything from him but maybe he was a little jealous that Eddie and Jon were spending so much time together when Eddie could be kissing him.
"Ouch... Rude"
Although he secretly loves seeing Eddie so excited about a new band when he's already famous. It's cute.
Corroded Coffin and Nirvana coincide at a festival, Eddie gets uncontrollably excited, Eddie can fool anyone but not his boyfriend. Steve knows he doesn't just like the music the blue-eyed man makes, he likes the man in general.
It takes a few words and a few seconds looking into the other vocalist's beautiful, expressive blue eyes to make Steve want to wrap him in a soft blanket and shield him from the outside world. What a man.
As Kurt and the Nirvana guys leave, Steve can't help but say:
"Okay, I get it ... He's cute"
Eddie laughs and kisses him.
#this is obviously inspired by that heartstopper scene#steddie#eddie munson#steve harrington#eddie munson x steve harrington#steddie ficlet#kurt cobain#jon would be a huge nirvana fan in the 90s#of course eddie would have a little crush on kurt

Thinking about the new tiktok trend 'We listen and we don't judge' and it being Steve and Tommy. So, TW for abusive partners and sabotaging behaviours.
Eddie's just scrolling through his feed and comes across Tommy's page, and it's Steve and Tommy doing the challenge. Eddie's not really heard of it, so watches for a few seconds just to see what it is, and then stays because Something Feels Off™. They're a beautifully attractive couple, because of course they are, but Tommy's got his arm wrapped around Steve's shoulders casually, yet somehow it doesn't look comfortable. And Steve's smiling but. There's something about the light in his eyes.
Then Tommy drops his first confession, and Eddie knows exactly what's off.
"We listen and we don't judge. Sometimes when you want to get a PB on your morning run, I change your alarm so it goes off late and you don't get to go."
Steve's face just goes from confused to angry to disappointed to say and it looks genuinely heartbreaking. But he puts on a smile and replies that he's not judging.
Steve then admits he sometimes schedules to go out with friends when Tommy's basketball team are likely to lose because he's always in such a bad mood if they do he tells, and sometimes it triggers a migraine. Through it, Eddie can see how Steve is tense, holding his breath, and he doesn't miss the flash of anger in Tommy's eyes. The way his fist clenches.
But then Tommy fires back with "sometimes I say I'm working late but really I just don't want to deal with you", and all Eddie can see is the bob of Steve's Adam's apple as his eyes fall to the table.
It looks like Tommy's just crumpled Steve like a bit of paper, and Eddie needs to hold him right now. Needs to punch Tommy's smarmy face. Needs to tell Steve how he's worth someone setting extra alarms in the morning just to cheer him on to get those PB's. To have breakfast ready afterwards. To celebrate with him in any way he wanted.
As Steve runs out of things to admit and Tommy seems to really hit his stride, Eddie finds himself tapping onto Tommy's profile and looking for landmarks.
He has a 'relationship' to end.

here’s a little something that started as my entry for @steddieangstyaugust day 23 but was too short and too long for the wc i set for myself but that i liked too much not to share.
so here’s a little prequel to my actual entry!
“Eddie, where are you??”
“Skull rock, d’you know it?”
“Yeah by Cornwallis and–”
“Yeah yeah, I got it dude let’s go”
Steve’s stomach started to swirl the moment he heard Eddie say ‘Skull Rock’.
He’d gone there, of all places, when he didn’t know where else to go.
What he told Dustin wasn’t wrong, Skull rock was popular because Steve made it popular.
With the help of Eddie, of course.
Rumors swirled ever since that first sophomore girl and her boyfriend had overheard Steve talking about the place, deciding to go there themselves and happening upon Steve and a “girl with dark curly hair” heavily indisposed underneath the boulder one night.
The “girl’s” soft huffs and whines under Steve’s ministrations made them giggle to themselves, but alerting the King to their presence.
Steve’d ran them off, of course, setting a precedent that if he’s there, he’s the only one there.
He and Eddie continued to meet up there until Starcourt.
They meant to meet up that night after Steve was off work; watch the fireworks, smoke maybe, makeout a little. But then everything happened, there was an ill-timed return from his parents that resulted in them actually giving a shit enough to know where he was at until their next trip…
SteveandEddie became Steve and Eddie again. They just.. stopped.
And Steve never really got a chance to explain. When was he supposed to? At one of the times Eddie never came to Family Video? Waltz right up to his door at Forest Hills? They weren’t there yet, before everything.
Maybe after jabbing him in the gut with an oar? Or maybe after Eddie pressed a broken bottle to his throat?
He mulls all this over the whole way through the woods to Eddie, and feels a pit open in his stomach when he can’t immediately find him when they get there.
Hearing him echo Steve’s “Butthead.” untwists it just that much, but he really wasn’t prepared to see him standing here again.
Steve runs a hand through his hair and averts his eyes momentarily, giving Eddie a tight-lipped smile when their eyes lock over Dustin’s shoulder.
He’s thinking over it still in the background while they figure what to do next
—
“So.. skull rock?” He’d hung back, pretending exasperation at Eddie forgetting the few things he’d taken with him after leaving the boathouse.
Eddie glances sideways at him, and Steve hates that he can still tell when Eddie’s about to get bitchy with him. “Yeah, well, when the King died, so it seems did the fame of your favorite make-out spot.”
Steve’s first thought is ‘They were probably just bummed they couldn’t catch me with that “girl” who makes those stupid hot sounds.’ but he’s not about to bring that up now.
“Probably pissed they couldn’t look in on King Steve and that slut whining under him.” Eddie spits, emphasizing the word he had no doubt heard thrown around the rumor mill.
Steve’s face goes hot, and bright red if the look Eddie gives him is anything to go off.
“Oh for fucks sake, that’s exactly what you were thinking, weren’t you?” Eddie whisper-yells at him.
“I’m sorry!” Steve whisper-yells back, the others are far enough ahead of them on the path that they shouldn’t hear them anyway, but still. “The noises you make are hot as hell!”
Eddie scoffs, his cheeks turning pink. “This is not the time for this.”
He moves to push on past Steve, but he catches Eddie’s wrist.
“Wait, you gotta know, I never meant to stand you up last summer.”
“Not the time for this either, Harrington.”
“The same bullshit that’s happening now, happened last year too.”
That seems to smooth the crease between Eddie’s brows just a bit. He takes his arm back.
“I waited, y’know.” he says, starting back down the path, “Was pissed too. Then Wayne told me about Starcourt when I got back. He thought I’d been there that night.”
“I should’ve told you, called or something but–”
“I know. We weren’t there yet.”
“...Yeah.” Steve finishes lamely.
They walk in silence for a while, the sky darkening around them.
“Hey, Eddie,” Steve starts, “Do you think–”
A yell from the front of their troupe snaps him back to reality.
“Dustin! Wait, don’t—” Eddie huffs, jogging up behind him with Steve on his tail.
They could wait. We’ll have time after all this is over. Steve thinks.
Wrong on both counts.
