like I genuinely don’t think dyadics who try and claim turner’s syndrome isn’t intersex understand how much impact TS can have on someone’s body and how we are perceived by the world.

while there is variations in everyone’s bodies, I’ve always been noticeably visibly different to all of the girls in my class. my body would also look and be functioning very differently now too if it weren’t for my hrt. and even after 11 years on it, i know there’s still visible differences.

not only that but a us politican singled us out and essentially said we weren’t “female enough” to be using the women’s changing rooms.

my sex has never fit into a binary enough for society. that’s why I will always proudly use the term intersex.

February is Turner’s Syndrome Awareness Month!

It will be 15 years this year since my diagnosis as a 12 year old. Been through a lot - hormones, numerous blood tests, numerous scans, being confirmed to be infertile at 16 - but am lucky to be in pretty good health overall thankfully.

Most of us don’t make it to birth and often when we do, we can have quite severe health issues so I do try and appreciate both my life and the fact I have so few medical issues as the blessing it is. There are many Butterflies like me who aren’t as lucky as I have been and I will definitely be keeping them in my thoughts this month.

Ts culture is not having the energy to give a powerpoint presentation when someone asks, so you just always try to explain it as simply as possible with phrases like "one of my x-chromosomes got glitched bad and idk if it is fully or completely gone. this has caused me to have a shield chest, ear infections, a short+broad stature and a lot more stuff that would take me forever to list"

I believe that the choice to use the intersex label is and should always be a personal one, however I have noticed many people with Turner Syndrome not wanting to call themselves intersex because 'We are real women' and 'It's a female only condition - We don't have male parts'

Not only is this incredibly transphobic as we don't all identify as women but it also completely misunderstands what intersex actually means (any variation in sex characteristic considered which is not typical for males/females)

Being intersex has never made me less of a woman, I can be an intersex woman and I AM an intersex woman. They aren't exclusive terms?

Does Timmy have any friends in fairy world?

Timmy is more of a socialite than a friend-getter. He can easily make connections with others, and can slip into established groups and create a dynamic with them! The kind of guy who is always invited to events but not related to anyone.

The closest he's gotten so far is Sanderson.

Happy TS Awareness Month to all of my fellow butterflies!

Happy Turner’s Syndrome Awareness Month! I wanted to use this month to talk about some non-basic, lesser known things with regards to Turner’s Syndrome and what I’m going to start with is sleep.

Ever since I was young, I’ve had a strange relationship with sleep. It’s improved a bit as I’ve become an adult but I’m still an early riser - as you can tell by the time I’m writing this!

Turns out that’s most likely related to my Turner’s. Studies done on us indicate that we actually don’t need as much sleep as the average person. I’ve been told that’s a super power 😂

With regards to sleep, I have a bit of a night routine, a nice early bedtime - I am usually asleep before 10 - and I also now sleep track! I love the sleep feature on my Apple Watch as it allows me to set a bedtime, a wake up time, whether or not I want an alarm and it tracks exactly when I fall asleep, when I wake up and whether I fall back to sleep as well. And it tells me how long I was asleep for.

Today I woke up a couple of times in the night so I didn’t expect to have had very good sleep, but my watch told me I actually got more sleep than I realised, which was a nice surprise!

TS culture is seeing that post about blaschko's lines, learning how they occur, and wondering if you would get them too and guessing that you either wouldn’t or would have incomplete marks, but not being sure because nobody told you if your TS is mosaic or not, let alone what your karyotype is.
