#Tumblr only lets you add so many tags so I’ll be reblogging this with more

Hi, I’m trying to put together a compendium of information and tips from disabled people on how the world can be made more accessible to you. This includes any and all disabilities, whether they be physical or mental. If you consider yourself to be disabled, your input is appreciated.

If you’re not disabled, but would like to help get more information, it would be highly appreciated if you could re-blog, and if you wanted to tag some disabled friends that would be great, too. Even better actually!

I’ve seen lots of posts from disabled people on small things that would be helpful for them (for example: not putting lots of emojis for people who use screen readers) and would just like to compile all of it in one easy to share document.

I would also love for it to include a resources section for learning more about different disabilities. Things like books, movies, videos, and other posts that do a good job of explaining things to people.

answer as many or as few of these as you’d like, and this is of course non-comprehensive, so feel free to include any other information that you’d like to.

If you think you’ll answer all or most of these, I’d appreciate you filling out the survey linked at the bottom. It will have two sections. The first asks for information on your disability (for organization purposes in the accommodation sheet), and the second asks for actual accommodations.

If you only wish to answer one or two (or have questions/comments/concerns), you can answer in the comments, reblogs, or my dms.

Within he information spreadsheet itself, some disabilities will have entire sections, others will be categorized into sections depending on what makes the most sense. This has nothing to do with perceived importance/severity of the disability, merely with whether the information is generalizable to other disabilities in a category :)

It is also currently in the workshop stage, so if you have any tips on ways to make using the spreadsheet a more enjoyable experience, I'd love that too!

So you just joined Tumblr?

Tumblr basics + Fandoms/Gifmaking

Congratulations, you just landed at Tumblr! This hellsite (affectionate) can seem intimidating and complicated at first, but once you grasp the basics of it it’ll quickly turn into your own personal little hut in the forest. Tumblr is a website where you and only you curate your dashboard, you’ll see the content that you seek on your own. In this post, I’ll explain the basics of Tumblr and the basics of how fandoms function here with the help of Bob. Okay, let’s get started.

1. Blog customization

The first thing you should do as soon as you land on Tumblr is add a profile picture and header before you interact with people. You want to be distinguishable from bots and therefore avoid getting blocked. You can also add anything to your bio, there's no character limit. Some folks add their name and pronouns, but there are no rules about that. There are also no rules about profile pictures. It can be a picture of you, a picture of your dog, a picture of a rock, or a picture of your favorite character. If you plan on staying on the fandom side, you might notice that a lot of fandom blogs have colorful-looking icons (a cutout of a character on a colorful background), for these icons and also headers I suggest checking out source blogs that make those icons. For starters, @iconheadersource is a goldmine where you definitely going to find something that’d suit you and your blog.

Tumblr on mobile and Tumblr on desktop are two different creatures when it comes to customization. On the desktop, you can customize your blog with coding (HTML + JS). Now Bob will demonstrate to us some examples of blogs on desktop.

2. Search Engine

Nice! You've made your blog look pretty! Now, let's shift our focus to the search engine and ways to discover content. As mentioned earlier, you curate your dashboard by looking for things you enjoy and like. Search using hashtags or the names of your interests (TV shows, movies, birds, music, etc.) to find your piece of cake. For instance, folks who create posts about TV shows you like use tags to ensure their posts reach others interested in the same thing. So, let's go ahead and search for something right now.

Once you search for that specific tag, you are redirected to the corresponding tag page. Here, you can see that posts are sorted by "Latest" or "Top" (indicating posts with the most notes). On the right side, you will find related tags and blogs which are frequently using the searched tag. By following the tag, both the tag itself and the posts tagged with it will automatically appear on your dashboard in the "Your tags" section. You have the option to filter tags according to your preferences. In the settings, you can choose to block specific tags if you prefer not to see content related to some particular topics.

The only method for sharing posts and content on this website is through reblogging. On Tumblr, reposting others' content, including art, gifs, and fics, is not accepted. Reposting means downloading art, gifs, etc., creating your own post, and then sharing it. And that's a big no-no, strongly discouraged. Your likes essentially function as bookmarks, and you have the option to set them to be private. When you save something, it doesn't appear on your friends' dashboards.

We don't censor things here, and I advise you not to do so too. If you need to mention a word that might be potentially triggering or could be flagged on another social media, feel free to say it. Many users have specific topics and tags filtered out, so if you use variations like "K!tKat" instead of "KitKat" in the tags, it can bypass the tag filter, potentially causing more harm as people will see content that triggers them. And remember to always tag posts that have flickering or flashing!!!

If you want to organize your reblogs or make comments on a reblog, use the tags section and not the comments section itself. This is called "#add tags." Feel free to type whatever you want, but keep in mind that the original poster receives notifications when someone reblogs their post and adds tags. Yes, all tags are visible to us.

Okay, so let's quickly recap this information with the help of our dear friend, Bob.

3. Social interactions

So let's move on to one of the crucial topics - how to make friends on Tumblr? Personally, I don't think there's one particular formula for that. Sometimes you just see a funny bloke posting about something as random as desert rain frogs, grab them, and go "You're my friend now" and that's how you become mutuals. 

However, there are other, more common ways to become friends with someone. You can start by reblogging someone's post, adding tags to the reblog, and then following the person. Create your own posts, tag them to ensure they reach the folks who are interested in the same things as you, and participate in fandom events and challenges if you're into that. Interact with people you want to befriend, message them, send them asks. You will eventually find your crowd. You'll also find swifties, and fans of supernatural who never moved on from that destiel love confession four years ago, they also can be your friends, at some point, you will become friends and chill with each other. Be open to new interests to make sure your dashboard is not dull and boring.

Tumblr doesn't have the supposed hierarchy, and you don't have to listen to anyone who tells you otherwise, you curate your own experience and blocking is pretty normalized here. Notes and followers (which are private for everyone) don't really matter, stick to your beliefs and your vibe and you'll be fine. We're all equal losers here.

4. Fandom / Gifmaking

Fandoms play a significant role on Tumblr, they're closely tied with gifmaking. As a fellow creature of fandom, I'm adding this part because we don't gatekeep - more gifmakers and fandom enthusiasts mean a better fandom experience. As I mentioned earlier, everything has its tag, making it easy to find your favorite TV show fandom by searching for the tag. This is also how you can connect with people who share an interest in that specific TV show. Upon entering the tag, you'll stumble upon numerous moving pictures – these are GIFs. People create GIFs of everything, from their "blorbo" (the term for favorite character) to beloved ships and favorite moments. There are also plenty of creative GIFs with different coloring and complicated effects. And the best part? You can do it too!

There are a lot of ways to make GIFs. Some people use Photoshop, and some use Photopea which is an excellent accessible option. I'll be linking posts for Photoshop under this text. For Photopea tutorials and guides, please check out @photopeablr.

Wait but what's a source blog? These are blogs that center around a specific theme, creating content for a particular topic. They are managed by multiple editors, these blogs track their own tags to reblog content related to the theme. They can be source blogs dedicated to gifmaking (just like @usergif), a TV show, a movie, a character, a celebrity, a sports team, or literally anything else. Typically, these blogs incorporate terms like "network," "source," "central," "creators," "hub," or "daily" in their usernames, making them easily distinguishable from regular personal blogs. Examples of source blogs that come to my mind right now are @dailyanakin, @heartstoppercentral, and @nancywheelercentral.

Let's also talk about tracking tags, which are often included in blogs's bios, whether they're from source blogs or solo gifmakers. You can add these tags to your posts when creating a gifset related to a specific source blog or something you know a particular gifmaker would appreciate. Basically, the gifmaker can search their tracking tag, much like a regular Tumblr tag, and view the most recent sets in which someone used their tag.

The last thing I want to talk about are usernames, and main and side blogs. On Tumblr, we have two types of blogs: the main blog and the side blog. The main blog is the initial blog created when you sign up for your account. This blog has full functionality and all features, allowing you to follow other blogs, like posts, and send asks to other blogs. In addition to the main blog, you can create side blogs on your account. Side blogs lack some of the features of main blogs; you can't like posts, follow other blogs, or send asks from a side blog. They have slightly different functionality – a side blog can be password-protected, have multiple users, and allow you to send direct messages to people. Other users can follow your side blog, and you can receive asks from them.

Many people use side blogs as URL holders. For instance, when a new TV show is announced, someone might be the quickest to save all canonical character names. You can then message that empty side blog to inquire if they're willing to trade that specific URL or if it's available for a giveaway. Canonical URLs are often challenging to obtain, so many people add letters in between or at the end or use symbols like "-", and they also mix names and surnames of different characters.

General Info

What is UraIchi Week?

It’s a week-long fanworks event to promote the Urahara Kisuke x Kurosaki Ichigo ship. There’s no sign-up, it’s just for fun, and everybody can participate. Completed works and wips are both acceptable, and any type of fanwork (fanfic, fanart, gifsets, etc.) is welcome. NSFW and/or potentially trigger-y content is allowed, although please remember to tag your works properly.

The ship itself can be written romantically or platonically so long as it stars these two characters together in some way. Poly ships are also fine so long as Ichigo and Kisuke are still the focus of the fanwork. And crossovers and fusions are also allowed even if it isn’t one of the given prompts for the event. Basically, anything goes, and the only criteria is that it has to be UraIchi-centric.

For those of you with Tumblr, you can tag your stuff with #UraIchi Week 2023 in the first five tags of your post. I’ll be tracking that tag so I’ll see it and reblog it to this blog. (If it’s been a few days since you posted and I still haven’t reblogged it, something probably went wrong, Tumblr’s not always reliable, so just shoot me an ask about it and I’ll reblog it.)

For those of you with AO3, I will create a collection a day or two before the event starts, and you’ll be able to add your work to the collection when you post. (I’ll toss up a notice for everyone once the collection is up.)

~ Themes

The votes are in and tallied so here are the results that everyone’s been waiting for! It’s your choice whether or not you want to make a fanwork that includes all the themes of that day, or a fanwork for each theme, or a fanwork for just one. You can make something for each day of the week or just one or two days. And if your fanwork doesn’t fit any of the themes, there’s a Creator’s Choice option on the last day so feel free to bring your own ideas to this event. All prompts can be interpreted any way you want as well, it’s entirely up to you, any extra bits I’ve added is just to help get those inspiration bunnies hopping.

An extra note about the sentence prompts: feel free to change the tenses and pronouns as it suits you. If you’re inspired by a sentence prompt, then of course you should include it in your fic (as opposed to the quote prompts which are just inspiration in a general-theme-of-your-work sort of way), but if you need to change the tense from present to past, or if you’re doing a genderbend fic and need to change the pronoun, that’s perfectly fine.

My Intro Post!!

Hello and welcome to my blog!! My name’s Ari, but you can call me whatever idc. I’m a girl, a minor, an Aquarius if that matters to you and I have 2 younger brothers.

I lived in Australia for lots of my childhood however moved to Spain last year. I’ve done research and while different people seem to have different definitions of the term, I identify as Hispanic as I’m quite immersed in the Spanish culture, language, etc, never plan on leaving and have been raised like a Spanish kid (my parents have wanted to live here since they were kids so they’ve been preparing us for life here since we were newborn) even though I’m genetically Australian. If you believe I don’t fit the term idc that’s your opinion but this is how I identify.

I’ve been practicing witchcraft since late 2021 and believed in the Greek gods since I was a kid (because of PJO lol). I call myself a Greek pagan witch with animist and omnist beliefs, I believe the terms Hellenism and polytheism may apply but idk enough about them to use them to describe myself.

I started working with Aphrodite 4 days into my practice cuz I’m a bit silly however I’ve gotten more consistent and comfortable with my worship over time. Now working with her is just a part of my daily life, I love all her different epithets (I think is the word) she’s just so cool. I want to start working with King Hades and Queen Persephone in the future.

I’m trying to get better at note taking cuz I often forget. This blog is for saving notes #info, #paganism, #animism and #witchcraft stuff, I’ll post stuff related to #greek mythology under its own tag if not practitioner based, all deity/entity stuff is under its own tag (eg. #aphrodite, #hermes, #odysseus, #telemachus, etc).I also post related fandom stuff here like; #hades game, #pjo, #epic the musical, etc and stuff I’m more critical of like; #anti Madeline miller, #anti lore olympus under their own tags. I love spirit work and when I’m more experienced I plan on working with ghosts and animal spirits though currently I’m content just talking to my plants, house, divination tools and Aphrodite. I also want to start Ancestor Work soon. I’m a big fan of baneful protection magic and glamour/love magic. I’m pretty proud of my clair senses, intuition and divination abilities, I’ve always been an empath (my definition is; good at sensing energy and emotions) so I’ve put lots of effort into improving these skills which I’m quite happy with the strength of now.

You may also see special interest junk here (I’m neurodivergent) however I’ll try keep it at a minimum and it’ll only be posted if it is related to the topics of this blog (eg. Marvel comics [that and witchy stuff are my 2 big things] and also other interests like #Hermitcraft).

I’m a nickname person, I have some of the best nicknames ever (Stariel was one and now it’s my user for everything) so now I give everyone/thing nicknames lol. Just a warning, if we become friends I’m giving you 10,000 nicknames. I’m also a yapper as you can see below, irl I’ve learned to contain and summarise my paragraphs but on tumblr I let myself go wild and add as many irrelevant details/thoughts I have so I apologise in advance for the essays.

I personally believe hugely in free speech so there’s no DNI for this blog. Everyone is welcome as long as civil discussion is maintained no blatant straw manning/mud slinging if you want to debate me or someone else here on a topic make sure to be respectful about it, thanks.

Post-Umbrella Academy S4 Reaction Part Five, appropriately: On Love Triangles (spoilers under cut)

Man, that makes me feel compelled to add a Reaction Part to my projected six Reaction Parts, and then reorder them so Viktor's is seventh. Anyway.

So in this series of posts so far, we've had the Good, the Bad, and now we have the Incredibly Controversial. (We also had the Fandom and the Fix-it, but those didn't fit as nicely into that sentence).

I have a pretty nicely curated Tumblr dashboard. I only follow people I like, who have sensible things to say, and I try to avoid diving into tags and For Yous (which a remarkable amount of the time make no sense— when I do look at that feed, I see topics people I follow love that I have NEVER INTERACTED with. I tolerate these topics for the people I follow, why would I want to see more of those from strangers?).

Yet I have seen no middle ground on this next topic. Half my TUA mutuals are over the moon, half are positively livid.

And here am I in the middle feeling ACK.

I'm allowed to be in the middle, right?

Let’s dive into my opinions on (is this really a spoiler anymore here on Tumblr?) Five/Lila/Diego under the cut.

Yeah, it’s not my ship, and I would never have made the choice. I make no secret about my non-canon OTP, and Lila/Diego was the only CANON ship I ever found interesting enough to root for. I found Five and Lila’s best-frenemies relationship utterly delightful and I’ll miss getting to accept it as that and not the early stages of enemies-to-lovers. But from an in-story standpoint it does make perfect sense, even if it’s not a direction many viewers wanted it to go in.

Linking back to the Venn diagram I reblogged at the start of the Season 4 Discourse: “I liked it,” “It made in-universe sense,” “it made narrative sense.” Although, just to be annoying, the topic refuses to be sorted into even those categories nicely. Certainly most of us seem to disagree on which— if any of them— even apply.

Let’s take it one topic at a time. Viktor got a whole post to himself, so I need to give some attention to the other half of my favorite characters/OTP/most-commonly-POV’d babies, Five. You see, the most common complaint I hear about this plot development is that it’s totally out of character for Five. Five would never hurt Diego that way! Five is aroace! Five spent his life trying to get home to his siblings, he’d never give up and decide to stay in the subway! Since when would Five put romantic love over familial love?

I disagree. Maybe I’m wrong— many of the people I’ve seen making this claim have consistently written takes on Five that I very strongly adore. How could we disagree on whether or not the dude is in character here? But let me plead my case.

It’s true that Five is different this season, and not in a fun way. His feral-ness is one of the most delightful things about him in general, and it just…wasn’t there. But I think that’s a question for the “I liked it” portion of the Venn diagram (feral Five is so much more fun to watch than sad and tired Five) and possibly for the “narrative sense” portion (do you really want to abandon the the most popular qualities of a character just for the sake of realistic character progression?). It DOES make in-universe sense, because Five is depressed in season 4.

Think about where he is at the start of the season— and for the whole show before that. He spent his whole long, traumatic life obsessed with getting back to, with saving, these people, and all they have done in return is ignore him, yell at him, and blame him for things that weren’t his fault. Viktor my love not even you are an innocent here— sure you spent 17 years mourning him, but then when you finally get him back, you brush off or outright deny everything he ever confides in you, and then you abandon HIM for six years, and he was in the body of a minor at the time, he really could have used you by his side there! (My shipper heart insists his betrayal was the worst of all of them, and even platonically it very well could be).

These people he dedicated his life to turned out to not just be idiots (in his estimation), but they’ve gone and pushed each other— and him— away for six years. His whole life purpose had been to save them, and for what? For them to take it for granted, to squander their second (third, fourth…) chances at life complaining how life sucks and it’s probably Five’s fault? What did he do all this FOR, in the end? And what should he be doing with his life NOW? He’s lost his goals, his meaning. IT’S DEPRESSING DANGIT but it makes sense!

And then he ends up stranded in time. Again. But this time he’s with somebody else— an actual real-life friend instead of a figment of his imagination. He fell in love with Delores because they were partners alone in time— why wouldn’t it happen with a flesh-and-blood person, who can actually act in loving ways toward him? Okay, it’s his sister-in-law, but they’ve been lost for six years with no guarantee of ever getting back, she and Diego had already been on the rocks (I’ll get into her side of the thing farther down), and what does Five care about conventions like How to and not to act with one’s brother’s wife, anyway? He’s feral, remember? He’s not going to stop and say, “No, we can’t do this, it’ll hurt Diego’s feelings,” in this situation! They’re lost in time and all they have is each other!

And let’s examine the whole concept of Five in a romantic relationship to begin with. Obviously I’m not against the concept, because I ship him. It’s ridiculous on my part, because when I started reading TUA fanfic I honestly said, “Wow, it’s refreshing to have a character so impossible to ship as Five is— how many interesting GEN fics can this guy spawn?” and before I knew it I was shipping him with his adoptive brother. BUT. I have also fully embraced the popular headcanon that he’s ace (note: show-Five is not comics-Five in many ways, and this is one of them). Aspec, at least. (NOT aro: I don’t know how anyone can see the way he’s always talked about/treated Delores and not understand that he is absolutely a total romantic). Even in my shipping fics, he’s aspec— “Viktor-sexual,” I have called it even. He falls for his best friend, and his best friend only. And— if I can shamelessly quote one of my own fics here—

“Look, I was married to half a mannequin for thirty-some years, I may have a slightly different understanding of marriage than the average person….Yes, I said what I said. Delores is complicated, okay? There are facts, and there are truths. Facts are I created her out of the rubble of a department store and my own desperation. I know this, I do! But the truth is she loved me. She kept me alive, she lifted me when I would have given up, she fixed my mistakes but forgave me for them, she made me laugh and even laughed back at me. That's what marriage is to me. A partner through the twists and turns of life! It has nothing to do with desire and passion and sex.”

And that’s exactly what happened with Lila! They had become partners through the infinite twists and turns of a seemingly-impossible-to-escape life! I keep seeing “since when does Five think with his dick?” comments, but he WASN’T! It took nearly seven years of close proximity, you-and-me-against-the-multiverse partnership, and shared traumas to happen, and significantly, she made the first move. It absolutely holds up to my own personal headcanons of how Five interacts with romantic love.

And I feel like Five doesn’t really segregate different kinds of love. Romantic or familial, it’s all LOVE, right? We actually had this conversation in the comments of the above fic, “New World Symphony,” just days before S4 dropped: there’s a scene where Five completely confuses the others by explaining that he doesn’t think finding himself married to Viktor is weird because “you’re my brothers— that’s family; he’s my husband— that’s family too,” and JBD— who, I must point out, is not a Fiktor shipper— commented, “Aww, for Five, family is another word for people he loves.” And I thought that was a brilliant way to sum it up (funnily enough, I responded by referring to Five calling Lila “family” at the beginning of S3!). So when he finds the answer to getting home— is it really so hard to believe he doesn’t want to go back? Lila is family just as much as the others are, and LILA ACTUALLY SHOWS HIM LOVE, which is more than any of his adoptive sibs did for him for those first six years back. He was DEPRESSED in the real world, and now he’s HAPPY! Things change! From an “In-show sense” standpoint. Maybe not from a “Narrative Sense” standpoint.

Let’s now try to discuss the state of Dilila, but more briefly. (This post is already 1800 words long). It made me sad to see what a mess their relationship had become in the past six years, and I thought it was kind of mean of the storyline to threaten to break them up, but after awhile, as we saw more of it, I had hope for them! I just rediscovered the “Into the Woods” soundtrack recently and suddenly they were reminding me of the Baker And His Wife— they needed to go Into the Woods--symbolically and literally—to be separated from each other, to learn new things about themselves, to yes even have an affair on her part— to appreciate what they had together, to rekindle their True Love. They needed to reevaluate themselves, each other, and their lives, and a separation would only help them to do so. (Now, when we talk about the in-characterness of it all, I DO question whether Lila was completely in character this season— but I mean, that’s part of it, IS she being herself? What does she NEED to be herself? She has to figure that out!)

And here’s where we get to the “Narrative Sense” problem, because that never had the chance to RESOLVE. Going back to what I said yesterday about the problem with The End— EVERYBODY HAD UNRESOLVED ISSUES, and SOME of them were too FRESH to be resolved! Who makes that narrative choice?!

I think narratively, it would work best if Lila and Diego reunited, appreciating each other all the more, and Five would let it happen because he’s primed to believe that being happy is too much to ask for, which is very sad but it works.

Except Lila never does make a choice, and Diego and Five die mad at each other.

Stupid ending.

But to be honest, maybe the writers didn’t want to make the choice because they couldn’t decide either. Narratively we’re rooting for Dilila, but from an in-show character standpoint, Lila and Five really are better for each other than Lila and Diego are. They’re on the same level. They understand each other in ways no one else can, being Commission Agents/murderers and having both been manipulated and betrayed by the Handler. They are matches for each other.

You know, I’m kind of annoyed by this fact. Five IS actually the better choice for Lila. I really want her to be happy with Diego but the facts are facts, she’d be happier with Five.

DANGIT I don’t even KNOW how to ultimately deal with them in the Summerland fix-it! I WANT Lila and Diego to reunite and also want Five to settle into a happy queerplatonic partnership with Viktor (I will DO MY BEST not to ship them in this fic, for the sake of everyone else who might want to read it, but that may be the extent of my best), but now I’m like is that really fair to Lila? UGH, RELATIONSHIPS!

I may settle for everybody taking a break from everybody while they work out their individual issues. (I did start writing a Diego and Kerry scene to immediately follow up the Five and Viktor scene I posted the other day, in which Kerry uses the Power of Autism to compel Diego to be introspective. Who knew.

“My brother stole my wife.” “Did she get free again?” “What?” “You said he stole her. Where did he put her?” “No, I meant he— they had an affair, he didn’t kidnap her.” “You said he stole her, but it sounds like she went with him because she wanted to, so that’s not stealing.” “It’s— why do you care?” “Because you’re not being accurate! He didn’t steal her if it was her choice to go!” “That—.” That made him very uncomfortable, was what that did. “Okay. My wife left me for my brother. That make sense to you?” She peered wide-eyed at him and started to open her mouth, so he added, “and yes she came back. Physically. But physically’s not the point.”

Anyway, so Diego ends up focusing on his issues with Always Being Second-Best at Summerland. If he learns to deal with his own insecurities, he could possibly even truly earn Lila’s love back! But first he has to deal with HIMSELF!)

Long story short, I did not hate this development, and the thing I liked least about it is tied to the thing I liked least about the whole season: if they'd only had time to resolve their issues before getting annihilated from existence, it wouldn't have been terrible! If THAT had been, then I'd be all for it!

I mean, mostly so. I'm still going to be a shameless Fiktor shipper, of course.

I had @void-detective ask me a few days ago if the ornaments on Luis’ jacket had any particular meaning and as with everything I fell down,,,,,, one hell of a rabbit hole HDNWHWNEHDNX

So, first off; I couldn’t find any super definitive answer to what was on his jacket but I have some pretty good theories!!!!!!!

@vespereargentum and their friend on Twitter helped point out to me that the floral designs are really reminiscent of old Spanish Renaissance furniture and like yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean look at it!!!!!!!!

These photos aren’t very good but you get the gist!!!!!!!

Why would Capcom put visual designs from FURNIATURE onto clothing I have no clue, but considering the fact that almost every single detail of Luis’ character down to the damn rings are extremely purposeful I’m sure we could pick up some pieces!!!!!

It also kinda makes sense, like,,, character wise too y’know- Valdelobos was a glorified Catholic cult and obviously they kept a very old-fashioned mindset so visuals-wise it makes sense!!!!!

@ 11cool also pointed out that his jacket has a lot of similar motifs to Matadors and Traje De Luces which they have their own post you can check out if you wanna!!!!!!!! Ofc there brings up the whole issue of y’know, Bad spanish stereotypes and bullfighting etc etc but this whole post is just throwing stuff at the wall in complete honesty!!!!!

And like the og post and @cloverisnonexistantbro said there’s a not for none Chance that the designers were trying to play into abstract windmill motifs would would be super cool!!!!!

So I’m sorry I don’t want them following me.

And the post you’re talking about in question, I was nice because I know that a lot of people still don’t understand the importance of reblogging your faves. Even though artists and writers go on and on and on about it, what’s the point of being mean? I only posted that response AFTER she replied to me saying that she didn’t understand the point of reblogging fanart or fanfic… even though she reblogs literal nonsense posts. That’s the part that really got me.

I’m not sure of the proper Tumblr-ish way to thank all of you who recently reblogged my post, so please let me know if I’m violating some sort of etiquette or doing things in a weird/awkward way.  I tried to put this in a comment on my original post, but I was too wordy!

I wanted to give a big “thank you”, though!  I was kind of thinking this project was just going to fade into obscurity, so I was really happy and surprised to find several notifications when I woke up this morning.  It was so encouraging to see the interest, and I’ve appreciated your comments both in the tags and in the reblog texts, as well as just the fact that you thought it worth reblogging.

The day I posted the Breakfast video, I started on the main Jensen/Jared/J2 panels from the same CHICON 2007 convention.  I figured if nothing else, even if no one else was interested, I’d want to have a complete set.  That will likely be the next thing you see from me, but I’m very slow, especially now that vacation is over, so my output speed won’t be impressive.  I do hope to get faster with practice.

The Breakfast video was my first time ever doing any video editing, not counting one very short and very pathetic attempt a few months ago with free software.  When I did this one, I purchased some proper software and I’ve been learning both the new software and video editing concepts as I go. I'm more of a words person than anything else, so this is way outside my wheelhouse, but it's something I'd been thinking about a lot lately and I thought I'd give it a try. If nothing else, it's fun to learn a new skill. I've found it to be surprisingly absorbing. The skip-meals-because-I-don't-want-to-stop-what-I'm-doing kind of absorbing.

If I do more, my intent was to progress through the cons by date starting from the oldest.  However, I’ve found that some footage is just such poor quality that the upscale process I’m using doesn’t work on it no matter what combination of settings I try.  I could still edit the original videos together as-is and then add subtitles and additional content like what I added here, but I guess people would be less interested if the video quality is too bad.  So I figured I'd skip over the ones I couldn't get a good set of upscaled videos for and focus on the ones where I felt like I could get a tolerable video quality.  Maybe someday either the technology or my skills will improve and I can go back to the ones I skip, or maybe someone else in our fandom with more skill in this area will be able to accomplish more.

(@kerkhofbloemen, unfortunately, it looks like most of the L.A. 2008 footage falls in that category, but I only experimented with a couple of the main videos briefly a few days ago.  I’ll put some more effort into it after I finish CHICON 2007 before I completely write it off as being beyond my current abilities.) 

Editing in the extra content has been the most fun part of the process for me.  So many of their cultural references go completely over my head, because I guess I live under a rock!  I had a moment of pure glee when I Googled “Montgomery” to try to figure out what Jensen was talking about when he picked his mic stand up. I immediately saw that Montgomery Gentry photo and burst out laughing because it all finally made sense!

Klaine Advent is Nearly Here!!

Hi Everyone!

Me again, your friendly neighborhood advent host!

First thing: We’re going to stick with the Klaine Advent moniker for this year, in no small part because COVID has taken down my household one by one over the past few weeks, and the amount of work necessary to rebrand the Advent as something else was just out of reach in my limited time. The poll did offer up some good, more inclusive alternatives, so I’ll be revisiting a renaming of the challenge in the new year. 

On to the good stuff….

The Dates. December 1 - December 24 

The Words. Every day around 6am, US Eastern Standard Time, a fresh new word will pop out of the Klaine Advent queue. This year the words are not alphabetical, and were chosen by a random word generator, and the wonderful @caramelcoffeeaddict did all of the artwork again this year!

How to participate. Anyone can contribute, no need to sign up! There will be a single word prompt post each day for 24 days (December 1-24) and you can write a drabble (or a sentence or a novel, if you like), create an art piece, make fresh gifs based on the prompt - whatever inspires you! This year the tag will be: “klaine advent 2022” and “klaine advent: [WORD]” (so make sure all of your contributions are tagged so we can find them!). 

Contribute however works best for you. You can do something every day, every 4th day, once a week, altogether at the end, whatever works for you and your schedule. Use all the prompts or pick and choose what speaks to you. Set your own challenges. The only requirements for the Klaine Advent are that it be Klaine centered, and that it references or uses one of the word prompt in some way.

Volunteers will be reblogging fics to the @todaydreambelieversfic blog, so you can always go scroll the blog to find the latest entries.  Of course everyone (especially the authors!) would be delighted if people reblogged to their own blog - the more people who reblog something the wider the potential viewing audience. We want to encourage everyone to reblog as many fics as they like all throughout the month!!

Partnership. This year again we’ll be partnering with @todaydreambelieversfic.  Authors and other creators for Klaine Advent who would like an additional place to promote their works are welcome to join as members. Just send a private message to @todaydreambelieversfic with your email address and they’ll add you to the blog membership.

Archive of Our Own. We have created a collection on AO3 for those people who don’t post to tumblr, and where those folks who do post to tumblr can share their advent works if you like! You can find this collection here!

“But what if I don’t write or make art and don’t have time to volunteer?”  You are the most important person in the Advent!! Read the fics, look at the art, let the authors and artists know how much you appreciate their work by reblogging and commenting and liking and all those things creators like. Nothing helps a writer or artist losing steam get motivated more than a nice comment from someone.

we found the ask, so we'll copy-paste what we said there and add a few extras!!

decide pretty early on if you want to do a general archive or run an archive with a specific topic/theme. if you can’t decide, then we recommend running a specific one at first, since it’s a lot easier to turn a specific archive into a general archive than to turn a general archive into a specific archive

if you’re able to, always reblog the version of the post that has a PT and/or ID already!! a brief check of the notes can show you any transcriptions that have already been done, especially if you don’t have the ability to do one yourself

avoid using slashes in your tags. if you put the character ’/’ in your tags, then the tag doesn’t work. this can save you a ton of trouble later on

also regarding tags, the simpler your tags are, the better. by this, i mean that you want tags you can easily type out regardless of what keyboard you’re using {no symbols you need to copy-paste every time, for example}, tags you can type quickly, and tags you can remember. while pretty tags are nice, it makes it a lot easier on both you and people using your archive if the tags used for organization are simple, straightforward, and easy to use

once again about tags, you want a tagging system that is relevant to the purpose of your blog. as an example, while tags for specific characters would fit on a blog that archives terms related to a specific media, on a general archive blog they’d easily become overwhelming and hard to remember. a blog that archives all sorts of LIOMOGAI terms would benefit from tagging genders as genders and alderns as alderns, but if you only archive kintype flags and nothing else, then tagging “kintype flag” on every post would become tedious and annoying

it’s also good to give your tagging system room to grow. i’m not really sure how to explain this, so i’ll give an example from our personal experience. we used to tag every gender related to an object as both “gender” and “xenogender”, even if the gender wasn’t stated to be a xenogender. we’re slow to change, so we were pretty stubborn about it for a while {we also didn’t understand why they weren’t xenogenders but that’s another topic}, but eventually realized that the way we had been tagging things wasn’t working for us or for our followers. it’s okay for your tagging system to change. LIOMOGAI is a growing, living, evolving community, with changing terminology, and if you run an archive for a long time then your blog and tags will probably reflect that

if you think not having a list of your tags will bug you later on, then keep track of which ones you use, even if you don’t make it public. it’s been years and we’re still finding tags that we used once and never again, which could’ve been prevented if we’d started keeping track from the get go

remember that you’ve got a community behind you!!! back when we started, it was just us and one or two other blogs dedicated to archival work, but these days there’s so many other archival blogs and coiners are a lot more aware of the existence of archives!! ask for help if you’re unsure on something, if you’re overwhelmed, if you at all feel that you can’t do it on your own. there’s no shame in asking for help. we’re always here if you have specific questions or need advice!!

if you use Tumblr on desktop, then we recommend using Xkit and turning on the setting that lets you archive a post on archive.ph or webarchive directly from Tumblr. similarly, browser extensions for these archives to make putting pages on there easier is super helpful

in blog settings, enable custom theme. this ensures that people can view your blog outside of dashboard view, which alongside making it way easier to browse, makes it possible for archive.ph and webarchive to actually archive your blog. a dashboard-only blog can't be archived on either of those

similarly, turn off infinite scroll on your blog. this, again, makes it easier to browse, makes it easier to put onto those archive websites, and has the added bonus of not playing into the infinite scroll trap. we also just recommend turning off infinite scroll for your Tumblr account in general so you view things in pages rather a limitless scroll, as it's easier to take a break and also find posts you lost, but that's a separate thing lol

we recommend tagging each post with the name of the term on it. Tumblr's search is hell, but tagging terms with their name makes it just that much easier to actually find what you're looking for

also from Xkit, some other settings that we find super helpful are quick reblog, tag bundles, and the mass tag replacer. they help a TON

even if you can't archive a post or put it in the queue right that second, put it in the drafts. people deactivate and blogs disappear all the time; several times we've found posts that have only had any surviving versions left because we saved them to our drafts

not necessary, but can be helpful: ask yourself, why archive? do you archive so you can have all the terms you like in one place? is your archive for you or is it a community resource? do you archive because you don't want posts to be lost forever? every answer is a correct answer, and answering these can help you decide your priorities, format of your blog, and generally help prevent burnout later on

What is your favorite memory about a book?

Oh, so many I can pick from... hard to choose a favorite, but here's one of the first happy ones that came to mind. This isn't about the content of a book, but about an interaction related to one.

When I was in eighth grade (thirteen years old, for those non-Americans out there), I loved Rick Riordan's books. At the time, the Heroes of Olympus series was being released, and I'd just gotten a copy of the newest book - I think Mark of Athena? I forget which one it was. I still enjoy Riordan's writing, though I prefer his Norse and Egyptian books over the Greek/Roman crossover that was Heroes of Olympus.

I finished reading my copy of the book decently quickly, and a friend of mine one grade above me (ninth grade/freshman year, first year of high school) asked if he could borrow it. I said yes, wrote my name inside, and made him promise to take care of it.

A few weeks later, I went to see the high school's production of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. My friend was in the ensemble, and the director had the ensemble doing various things in the background of some of the scenes while staying on stage.

My friend was reading my book, onstage!

It almost felt like I was onstage too, since something I owned was. Alas, I didn't make my debut onstage until the next year since they only allowed high schoolers to audition.

Seokmin squints his eyes before peeking over his sunglasses at you with a small pout on his lips as he sees how much progress you have made in comparison to him. 

You smile and shake your head as he grumbles moving to stand with his comically small bucket towards the water as the water washes up on the beach. Seokmin smiles as he glances back to watch you placing sea shells on your small sand castle. You looked so beautiful in the sun. The evening rays shine into your hair bringing out the many tones. Your skin, even with sand sticking to it, was so perfect Seokmin couldn’t help but to want to hold you knowing how soft you would be. 

With a bit of water in his bucket, Seokmin returns to his work drawing your attention as you bite on your bottom lip in concentration. Your sunglasses sit low on the bridge of your nose as you smile with your teeth pulling at your lip. “Okay so how much water did you add to make yours so perfect?” You laugh at his question before sliding over to sit next to Seokmin, dipping your hand into the water so you can drip the water on the sand. 

When the water drips over his leg on the way to the sand Seokmin gasps from the cold jumping causing the bucket to tip over, the water flowing towards your castle. The entire dramatic scene goes in slow motion as you glance over to watch your creation slowly decentrate from the unwelcomed river. Seokmin opens his mouth and closes it a few times before gesturing to your fallen kingdom before pushing his lips together. 

It isn’t until you start laughing that he looks at you surprised. “You aren’t angry?” You shake your head and reach up to cup his cheek as he looks at you with a nervous laugh on his lips. “Seokmin , it’s just sand. I can rebuild it. Why would I get mad at you for something so silly? I love you.” 

You watch the smile grow on his face as you brush the sand from his cheek before leaning in to kiss his lips. Seokmin returns your kiss before pulling you closer letting his nose nudge against yours. “I love you too. I’ll help you rebuild it. Even bigger.” You laugh as he lets you go only to stand grabbing a toy shovel that came with his bucket as he starts to lay out his design. “With a moat!”

Event Info

WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation challenge (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are 31 Official themes this year - one for each day of the month - which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. They are meant to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don't have to include the exact wording into your work). Additionally, there are 3 prompts for each theme.  These are optional suggestions and can be used in conjunction with the theme, or as options/alternatives.  We want to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible, as well as increase event accessibility for folks with triggers and squicks.

Creators can PRODUCE work in any media they choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, and photo/video/audio edits. Creators can PARTICIPATE as much or as little as they want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.

When uploading Whumptober content to your blog, be sure to tag the with:

PLEASE BE DILIGENT WITH YOUR TAGGING. Only properly tagged posts are considered for archiving on the official @whumptober2020​ blog. They must be tagged in the order above.

Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of participants in recent years, we cannot guarantee your work will be archived. A random selection of properly tagged posts from all genres will be reblogged each day.

Whumpers who produce content for 31 total theme days are considered event completionists and will be tagged in a masterpost at the end of the month.

Q. What kind of content can I make? Can it be NSFW?

This is a MIXED MEDIA event! You can write fic, post meta, doodle or paint, create a gif set or photo edit, link a song, or get crafty with video - anything goes. As for NSFW, make what you like, we just hope that you’ll tag your work accordingly so that others participating in the event can stay safe :)

Q. Do I have to do all 31 Days? Can I post early/late?

Participate as much or little as you like, and post whenever! Just be sure to tag your posts properly (ex. #no.11, #psych101). Combining prompts into one piece of work is okay, and posting late is as well so as long as it’s in October.

Q. What if I don’t understand a theme?

Send us an ask! We’re happy to help clarify. That said, the themes are entirely up for interpretation :)

Q. Can I combine Whumptober with other creation challenges?

Absolutely! That’s like shooting two whumpees with one bullet :)

Q. Can I upload/repost my whumptober content to other social media platforms?

Of course! We’ve created an AO3 Collection to archive any fics posted there. The archive can be accessed here. The blog is the official archive, so please respect the boundaries of any closeted whumpers in your social circle :)

Q. Can I use prompts to write a new chapter for an existing fic?

Yes

Q. An existing fic I am currently writing contains many of the Whumptober prompts, can I use it?

If you are actively writing this fic at the moment with the whumptober prompts in mind, yes. If it just conveniently checks the boxes, then please don’t. You can, however, add new chapters answering one or more of the prompts.

Q. What kind of characters can I write for?

Fandom characters, OC characters, human, furry, alien, cyborg, whoever you like.

Q. Can I use a prompt multiple times?

Yes,  but it only counts once

Q. If I’m not comfortable with one day's prompts can I use a prompt of a different day as a substitute and still be a completionist?

Yes, but please do not use a specific prompt twice. We have also created an alternate prompts list that you can draw from [here].

Q. Where can I post my work?

Post where and how you want. You don’t even have to (cross)post it to Tumblr. Just keep in mind if it’s not on Tumblr we will not be able to add it to the blog archive.

Q. Can I start posting early?

You can, but this is an October event and wouldn’t it be more fun with everyone doing it at the same time? That being said, you can post early, but we won’t be reblogging any work predating October 1st.

Q. Do I have to finish a fic I started/can I post WIP’s.?

Yes you can post WIPs. And you’re not obligated to finish it in October for it to count towards being a completionist.  

Q. Is co-writing allowed?

Yes, absolutely, and it would count towards being a completionist for both/all of you :)

Q. Do I have to create 31 standalone pieces to be considered a completionist or can I write one continuous story?

One continuous story is fine.  The challenge is to write something for 31 prompts. If that’s spread over 31 fics or just one, you are still considered a completionist. (The same goes for every other media you choose.)

Q. Is there a min/max limit on word count?

There is no limit

Q. Can I combine prompts? Is there a limit on how many?

No limit and combine as many as you’d like.

Q. My interpretation of the prompt isn't whumpy at all, does that count?

No, sorry, but keep in mind that whump [see definition] is something very nuanced and different for everyone and emotional whump/angst is just as much part of it, as is physical whump and torture. So before you dismiss your idea, think about this.

Q. Can I start working on the prompts before October?

Absolutely! That’s why we posted the prompts a month in advance. We recognise how difficult it can be creating for 31 days in “real time”.

Q. Do I have to use your tags?

Yes, if you want your work archived on the blog. If not, feel free to use whatever tags you want.

On to the third list. Once again there’s a lot however most of the people in the list I can’t tag/ they’re url isn’t attached to them anymore. So either they didn’t credit properly or it’s been long enough they original authors have changed their names.  Make sure you check their other ‘works’ because they also have stolen stories on their page.

And then lastly is a user that was in my last post that still has their story up with a bunch of stolen work too. 

I’m sure there’s more out there, but that’s what I’ve found for now at least in the marvel fandom. This isn’t including the like four others I found for other fandoms. Please do not take our work and post it some place else unless we specifically state it’s alright. 

*this is also only stuff I’ve found where they’ve blatantly stated they took it from Tumblr and that they didn’t write it. The only way you can tell if your work has been posted some places else is to look it up on a plagiarism site like Quetext.

hello everyone! with the death of picloadr and now apparently tampermoneky too i’m very happy to say that i’ve found an alternative for both that can be used to keep a promo queue running! i hope i’ve explained everything clearly enough bellow the cut but if you have any questions for need anymore information then i’m only a dm away! PLEASE REBLOG THIS IF IT HELPS, I’M WANTING TO HELP AS MANY FOLK AS POSSIBLE WITH THIS (LASt UPDATED 3rd JAN 2022)

UPDATE - 03/01/22

somethings that have come up in some of the issues i’ve helped resolve:

there sometimes can be a bit of a delay between the queue posting and the new queued post appearing, up to 10 minutes is the longest i’ve heard about so far

if the action isn’t working when first deployed try disconnecting and reconnecting a few times, if problems persist going in to edit the action and changing the trigger from any new post to new photo post can resolve the issue too

so first up! you’re going to want to be signed into tumblr on the account that has the promo blog you’re wanting to use, easy enough and i’m guessing if you’re reading this you know how to do that so no screenshot for this. you’re also going to want to post at least one and draft at least one promo on the blog to have as reference and also to trigger this whole process. once you’ve done that, that’s us done with tumblr for the moment!

now the site we’ll be using to reload our queue is called ifttt (if this then this) and it allows you to set up simple little automations for many sites and a few other things? i’m not too sure. we just need it to work with tumblr and it does!

so first things first you’re going to want to make an account, now you might be able to tell from the start for free button that there is a premium account available but luckily for us everything we want to do is achievable with a free account (unless you want to have more than 5 automations set up, but multiple accounts can do the same).

clicking on start for free brings you to this screen where you’re going to want to click at the text bellow the buttons to sign up with an email. best thing is, it works with the + trick for gmail emails.

that brings you to this screen and we’re just going to want to ignore all that and click up on the top right to skip right past it for now.

that’ll bring you to here! now it might prompt you with a popup about a trial of the premium version but you’re just going to want to dismiss that and then click up on the top right, create.

and now you click on the add button. which will bring up the screen that will let you connect ifttt to tumblr.

here, you could scroll for an age to find tumblr or just search for it. either way click on tumblr.

from the options on the screen above you’re going to want to click on this one.

which will then prompt you to connect with tumblr, now the process that follows will be very similar to anyone who used picloadr or any other tool that works with tumblr but i’ll still walk you through it.

yup! that’s all it is! just one popup where you’re going to want to allow ifitt these permissions.

okay, i lied. it wasn’t just one... but this ones easy! all you need to do is select your promo blog from the drop down menu and click update.

and that will bring you back to here! our first building block is in place, now for our then that and a process that is very similar to picloadr in a lot of ways.

picking tumblr as a service, same as before, you’ll be brought to this screen.

where you’re wanting to pick this option.

which will bring us to this

which will bring you here. and now this is where we return to tumblr to get the image url of your promo graphic from the one you posted earlier. 

you’re going to want to paste that url in as shown above, ie. with no curly brackets. and now back to tumblr! now we want to get the html of the post body of your promo.

again you’re going to want to ignore the curly brackets and just paste straight in overwriting everything.

now for the tags, this is pretty much explained on the page but just separate them out with commas and onto the last input

select add to queue from the drop down and then that’s us almost done setting things up!

click create action and it’ll bring you back to here.

here you can see it all set up! i’ve zoomed out to get it all on one screen but all you need to do now is click continue.

bringing you to this screen, you can keep the default title or type in your own: once you’re happy just click finish and that’s you finished on ifttt.

you’ll see this screen once it’s been published, the bit highlighted in yellow is how you can turn it off and on, once triggered you don’t need to do anything to keep it going. and up in the top right, highlighted in green is where you click to bring up the editor for the action.

and now back to tumblr, remember how i said to draft a promo post back at the start? now you’re wanting to post it! once its posted, if you’ve done all this right, you’ll spot a post in your queue! one ifttt just queued up for you!
