Appealing tumblr Community Guidelines ban be like

Lost my blog for several hours overnight and thankfully woke up to find it reinstated.

Apparently tumblr will auto-ban you/terminate your account if they detect that you’re using a VPN. And they won’t even send you a warning or an email about it.

On top of emailing staff about it like the termination page tries to get you to do (though I don’t suppose this does much), I would suggest contacting @tumblr or @TumblrSupport on Twitter, AND using the following Reddit post to ping the OP for assistance:

Others also suggested using a DIFFERENT email to contact support@tumblr.com, since tumblr sometimes blocks the email associated with your account (helpful!! /s)

The twitter and Reddit suggestions should help if your ban wasn’t due to TOS violations. Emailing from another account will hopefully get you a reply if you WERE banned for TOS reasons.

I've been shadowbanned since July 29th

...I think.

On July 28 I was fully immersed in Good Omens hype, posting, getting a ton of notifications. Then the next day it dropped to like 5. I thought it odd, because usually popular posts have more mileage, but didn't think much about it - I thought they just got drowned in the vast numbers of other people's posts. But then the time went by, I kept posting, commenting, and getting 0 notifications. My first suspicion was that tumblr introduced a new algorhithm that doesn't favour me. I even considered that maybe somehow I suddenly became boring :D. I notised I cannot comment on the app (can on web), but with all the new updates, many of them buggy, I thought it's just one of those.

Eventually (over a week ago) I contacted help. They responded a week later, saying my account was terminated due to sexual content :D. Now, if you've seen my blog, you know it's among the most innocent there is. The only thing even remotely sexual EVER was Lan Mandragoran's butt 2 years ago. So I wrote them to actually LOOK at my blog. They didn't write back, but today I got 6 notifications, and I can comment on the app again. So I suspect I've been unblocked.

I'll be reposting stuff I posted in the last 3 weeks, because I think those posts deserve a second chance.

I'm very angry they block me without checking whatever fake report they got, especially at this time, the peak of GO fandom hype! I feel so robbed.

And the most ironic thing about this is that while they are banning accounts for false reasons, their new Live section is inhabited entirely by hoes hoeing and they're not doing anything about that.

I'm already seeing advice from people in the US to purchase queer books and other banned or "controversial" books on paper as a way to combat the wave of government censorship that is coming. While this is a good idea (it is! absolutely!), it's not accessible to everyone, and truly, we're not going to be able to consumerism our way out of this one.

If you can buy the books, do. Whether you can buy the books or not, borrow them from your library.

Borrow the paper versions. Borrow the ebook or audiobook versions. Request the titles you want that your library doesn't have. The more a title circulates or is requested, the better librarians are going to be able to defend keeping it if and when it's ever challenged.

Use libraries like @queerliblib too. The more members they have, the better they'll be able to fundraise.

Your community resources depend on you using them. Borrow the books before they go away.

InB4: Piracy is not the solution here. We're trying to keep community resources available, not make sure individual people can read individual books. Different problems.

The books are still available. Borrowing them from your library and returning them on time and in good condition will help keep them that way.

Before the ban on tumblr I’ve seen a total of zero p0rn blogs on my timeline, now after the ban I’ve seen way too many to count. I’ve already blocked more than 100 blogs that pop up.

Honestly they should have let the old ones stay they at least didn’t spam the most popular tags all the the time.

I have been saying for awhile I felt like I was losing my muchness. And I am sitting here, drunk and more than a little high. I spent the night stewing because of Fun With Family that I won't get into here.

But I am finding myself groping forward to when I wanted to write. Writing passionately about sex, exchange ideas and notes with kinksters.

I remember that want and pull. Much like dyeing of my hair, feeling reinvigorated as I am reminded of old loves and new while I go thru various stashes of old photos.

I still haven't finished pulling everything off one of those hard drives.

Still. I am writing again - just not here.

I stopped writing much for the last few years. Writing challenges had dried up - or not been relevant because they're often more for fiction writers, and the people who used to drop them for sex or kink stopped entirely.

And I can't say I'm familiar with blogging writing challenges either - maybe I should look into that.

But regardless...I think I'm going to try and start blogging more again. Use this more. We'll see how it goes, I guess.

the tumblr ban in my country has been lifted!

I've been abroad for about five years, occasionally committing to write consistently on this blog (although I've ended up abandoning it repeatedly). well, not exactly abandoning it. sometimes i check to make sure the blog is okay and still existing and i'm still having access to it (for about up to five times a year). and, since tumblr was banned before in Indonesia i don't really engage here. the idea of using VPN for the sake of accessing JUST a tumblr blog wasn't really convenient back then. now in 2024, i just realized that our government has reopened the access (which is super late for me to keep up with the news!). they've been opening the access since late 2018.

guess tumblr's new policy changes everything it takes to remain as a media-platform in Indonesia. for those of you who's already using tumblr since 2010's, you guys might remember that you literally can find ANYTHING in tumblr. including pornography. (YES, and porn spreads on this platform like coronavirus spread widely in 2020). but i was still a teenager back then, barely have my own personal laptop and my parents really strict on how i spend my time on the internet. i'm using tumblr only to reblog cute photos from weheartit, reblogging posts from cutesecrets, stealing cute photos of nail arts, cute stuff to reupload it in my facebook page. THAT'S IT :p but what i like about tumblr is how concise and effective it is for writing blogs! all i need to do is pick a design for the blog's theme (which most of them are minimalists, the layouts are clean). the interface is quite easy to understand and pleasing to the eye. now that accessing Tumblr from Indonesia doesn't require a VPN, there's no reason for me not to write, huh? thank you tumblr for sticking around. and for those of you who are willing to read this unimportant piece of mind.
