Things I Learned Selling Smutty Fan Art At A Comic Convention
The overwhelming majority of women at comic conventions are into smut.
They all feel free to be excited about seeing smut around their friends, but they sneak away from the group 20 minutes later to actually buy it.
The majority of men are horrified by the sight of a guy with his shirt off.
Something can be so gay that homophobes can’t linger long enough to spout their bigoted views, lest they be seen standing near gay stuff.
Tween girls LOVE offensive stickers. LOVE. THEM.
Dads will reluctantly buy tween daughters almost anything they want.
Those dads draw the line at stickers that say “fuck me like the government.”
I knew anime was huge, but Jesus Christ, I was the only person in a Star Trek uniform at a COMIC CONVENTION. It was like 70% anime cosplay.
For all the shit people talk online, Star Wars is still huuuuuge. The day I went as Obi-Wan I was stoically told “May the force be with you” all day long by fellow Jedi.
When your friend says “if you’re going as Obi-Wan, I’m going as a sexy Anakin” you are apparently not allowed to ask “Hayden Christensen or Jake Lloyd?”

Ethan Peck with Captain Pike Place Vanilla Latte at SDCC 2024
Anson couldn't make it to SDCC this year but there is Captain Pike coffee! :)
Hero Within (known for their Star Trek apparel) has been serving fun Star Trek themed coffee drinks at the Energize Lounge for San Diego Comic-Con, July 25 - 28 2024.
Their bottled drinks include Captain Pike Place Vanilla Latte ("smooth, rich and refreshing"), Janeway's Just Java (black coffee), Mariner's Madness Mix Caramel Latte, as well as various roasted bean bags: Pike's Light Blend, Mariner's Medium Blend and Janeway's Dark Blend.

My question for Jess and Kate at the @germanfilmcomiccon in Babelsberg.
“What do you do to unwind after a busy day at work?”
Jess loves to fill online shopping carts, then close the page without buying. And look into people fridges.
Kate loves to do ‘This or That’, cook for her man and sit on her deck with a glass of wine, watching the osprey dive into the lake to catch a fish.

This is a @themintman appreciation post I don't make the rules!!!
Here's a collection of creatives done by mint over the last year that have me in awe!!! They're amazing and deserve all of the love and recognition for their talents and I don't have the words to articulate this properly so I'm sharing some more photos.
We have two drawings of my cat, one on my birthday card and one in a book they gifted me before I left home. Another amazing birthday drawing of Spock, because I am going through a big star trek phase. A cosplay of Barbra from beetlejuice and another of a villager (potentially nurm? Maybe the DanTDM one (traysaurus??)), plus a wooden statue of an album cover (will wood??) and then some set painting that they did for a local production of Oliver!
Love them so so much and they are incredibly talented and I want people to see that!!! They own my heart rn and I will be framing all of these

The hate Tawny Newsome and Justin Simien are getting over their new show that was announced at SDCC is so disappointing. We’re getting true super fans who are super qualified and talented to write a trek show, like people say they want, and all people can do is complain because it’s new, experimental and not a rehashing of a TV show from the nineties. I’m disappointed in the fandom but at this point, it’s impossible to be surprised.

For some happier news, today has been a truly glorious day to be a Star Trek Fan (spoilers)!
First, we have the long-awaited trailer for the final season of Lower Decks, along with a premier date of October 24th!
youtube
More Jennifer? Yay!
Jennifer and Mariner having adventures together! YAY!
Ma'ah and an Enterprise decontamination chamber gag? Predictable, but fun!
Moopsy cameo!
Alternate universe episode?
This looks so fun!
And repeated hints that this isn't the end for these characters' stories- I really hope they're not just teasing us here!
Then, there's the trailer for Section 31:
youtube
I'll admit, this one doesn't look like quite as much my thing, superficially "darker and edgier" than I like my Star Trek, but paired with a rather MCU-style comedic tone which... can work, but is a tough balancing act to pull off.
That said, Michelle Yeoh is an acclaimed actor- in fact, unless I'm mistaken, this will be the first time a Star Trek project is starring an Academy Award winner! Also, I appreciate that the franchise is branching out and exploring new tones, new premises, and new settings within the Star Trek universe. And speaking of which...
The first-ever live-action Star Trek comedy has been announced.
It will be co-written by Justin Simien and Lower Decks star Tawny Newsome (who is also a writer on the upcoming Starfleet Academy series), along with Kurtzman. Notably, it will NOT be set on a Starfleet ship or station or following a Starfleet crew, but "will follow a cast of Federation outsiders, serving customers on a resort world, who discover that their daily exploits are actually being recorded and broadcast to the entire quadrant."
This might sound like a strange departure to a lot of people, and I'm sure Starfleet will get involved as the show progresses, but honestly I'm kind of thrilled by this. Its exploring parts of the Star Trek universe we haven't seen before (the time period will also make it likely our first real look at the post-Picard era), the resort premise fits well for a comedic/sit-com type show, the secret broadcast gives it a suitable sci-fi twist with potential for social commentary, and the premise will also be well-suited to lots of guest appearances by other Trek characters.
Given the comedic tone, time period, and Newsome's involvement, I think appearances by Lower Decks characters are very likely, and if so this may be the closest thing to a follow up to Lower Decks that we get, at least in the short term.
And all of that is more than enough to be thrilled by, but there's at least one more new project to look forward to, and that's the limited time crossover event between the Lower Decks and Doctor Who mobile games!
youtube
Seeing Mariner and the Doctor in the same shot fulfills a need I didn't know I had. And makes me REALLY wish Tawny Newsome could guest star on Doctor Who.
So, there you have it. I honestly don't know what more to say except that any doubts I might have had about the future of Star Trek, or Paramount's commitment to continuing the franchise, are resolved. I still want a Legacy series with Jeri Ryan as Captain Seven, but honestly it's hard to think of a better time to be a Star Trek fan, certainly since the 90s.
Star Trek is boldly going where it has not gone before!

Over the past four seasons, Star Trek: Lower Decks has offered a new, animated, and certainly more comedic perspective on the long-running franchise. But the show's upcoming fifth season will, alas, be its last. With that in mind, the series will be finding ways to give its characters a proper send-off during the new episodes. Tawny Newsome, who provides the voice of Lieutenant Beckett Mariner, spoke at a Comic-Con panel and said this new season will see Mariner hit an emotional growth spurt.
Star Trek: Lower Decks will start streaming its new season October 24 on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast + Runa ♥
Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, and Christina Chong with her dog Runa at the Wales Comic Con panel for Strange New Worlds → Telford, England, December 3 2022
The cast got to cuddle a sleepy Runa as the panel went on. After spending some time in Anson's lap (receiving lots of scritches), Runa went to Ethan and, dozing off, used his forearm as a pillow.
Runa appears in the Strange New Worlds episode 1x08 "The Elysian Kingdom". When our Enterprise crew turns into storybook characters, Runa and "Princess Thalia" (Christina Chong) look adorable together wearing matching sparkly outfits.
