I just can't get over how well Sam Heughan, Caitríona Balfe, and the whole cast's acting is. But the complete heartbreak on Jamie's face. Like, stop. I was crying along with him. I love how unhinged he is and does not care about anything anymore. He even resigns, writing the message with Claire's blood. Aka his heart. Aka a callback to the title of the episode. I'm telling you guys. The little details here are just fantastic. All that's important is Claire. Denny has learned a lot from her, and now he has to put those skills to good use. Hopefully, he's up to the task. Gah![...] Outlander season 7 episode 15 successfully brought all the emotions in those quiet scenes between Jamie and Claire, raised the stakes in an intriguing way for our favorite couple as well as William and Jane and Roger and Brianna, and is leading us into a compelling finale. The historical drama's finales are always very strong ones. I'm so nervous for what's to come. But I know it's going to be great! As for this week, the penultimate episode really did what the episode before a finale is supposed to do in an intriguing way. Episode grade level: A.

The use of FNN in season 3 of Lower Decks is super interesting. It's very much a parody of modern day news media and the sensationalization it uses to draw engagement. It's extremely on point for mocking the way in which tv news takes no responsibility for the way it vilifies anyone arrested for a crime. Then immediately moves on and ignores the part it played in putting someone's life on blast the moment they are acquitted.
Which begs the question of what place that type of sensationalized news media plays in a post scarcity world. The reason modern day news media is like that is largely because the industry is busy fist fighting over sponsorship deals and engagements like it's a 2000s Black Friday. It is a problem that has been the part of a news industry, especially broadcast news, since day one. It was built into the entire industry by the very design that it exists to sell news and perpetuated by tv journalists who are all trying to scramble to the top of the industry.
It leaves an interesting thought experiment about the Federation's style of meritocracy and its impact on news. What's interesting about Lower Decks' depiction of news specifically is that it still shows those same problems of one upmanship and trying to get the story out quickly in the most attention grabbing way possible. Even without existing in a world that needs to sell its news, there is still this drive amongst journalists to prove they've got the most interesting story. The excitement of a story going national means nothing in a universe where it could go intergalactic.
Capitalism is a huge part of the problems with news, but I think there's a discussion to be had about how if you continue to use a system built with capitalism in mind how much does it still harbor the problems capitalism baked into it's design.

Back to report that I have seen the first episode of the Fallout tv show on Amazon Prime and it fucking slaps. Along with this, The Last of Us (HBO), Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Arcane: League of Legends (obviously), and many more, we can now say for certain that we are in the un-official golden era of video game adaptations (at least if it stays the course *knock on wood*).

The new drama Brilliant Minds represents a kind of homecoming for Zachary Quinto. After all, the show that helped launch his career, Heroes, aired as part of NBC's Monday night lineup from 2006-2010, and now Brilliant Minds is airing in the time slot Heroes once occupied. The irony hasn't been lost on Quinto, who said he's gotten some serious Heroes vibes with the new show.
Brilliant Minds airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC.

Bystanders are all agog as NBC engineers operate a new mobile TV broadcasting facility, December 12, 1937. It was used for experimental pickups of outdoor news events. The setup, consisting of two vans carrying equipment, was built by RCA in Camden, N.J., and turned over to NBC at its headquarters in Radio City.
