Don’t you just hate it when the rebel alliance sends you on a mission to break a contact out of prison but then it turns out that he’s your annoying ass ex bf and now everything is awkward because you were the one that arrested him and put him in prison in the first place?

I’m sure I’m so late to this conversation but I’m so confused/curious about what intersex disorder Cardinal Benitez is supposed to have. Like- it’s implied if not outright stated that he presents externally as a “typical” male and doesn’t have ambiguous genitalia (that in combination with the idea that all that was requested by the papacy was a hysterectomy and not any kind of “sex reassignment” or genital alteration- which I highly doubt would have been accepted anyway- more likely anything more and he would have been defrocked, the church being how it is. Though also possible he has a microphallus or hypospadias which both could easily be overlooked at birth/in the seminary, as well as being common in cis men and therefore “acceptable”) and we know for certain that he has ovaries and a uterus- that much alone makes me think persistent MĂŒllerian duct syndrome. But Benitez also says that his chromosomes would make some classify him as a woman, and individuals with PMDS have XY chromosomes. But it also can’t be de la Chapelle syndrome or Klinefelter syndrome, giving him a mostly “typical” male body (potentially smaller build, less hair, genital variations like a microphallus or Hypospadias) but XX or XXY chromosomes, because a uterus and ovaries aren’t present in those conditions. Ovarian tissue can be present, but not a fully developed set. (Amendment: there are, though rarer, cases of a developed uterus and ovaries in de la Chapelle syndrome. There’s very limited data about this specific variation, and things will vary from person to person, but it’s usually caused by congenital adrenal hyperplasia, which causes significant health issues. If BenĂtez has de la Chapelle syndrome, it would most likely be due to CAH, and he’d be quite unwell without treatment. Though again, it’s under-researched and reported, especially variations that don’t cause major health issues. Much rarer and more complex, but certainly possible that this is his situation- potentially from exposure to certain hormones in utero. It’s complicated. Thanks to everybody that helped me explore this subject/syndrome further!) Because the uterus and ovaries have been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to exist, I’m assuming the mention of chromosomes was a mistake/misunderstanding and Benitez is supposed to have PMDS, but that condition is pretty damn rare- not that this writes it off, but it’s something to consider. Still, unless I’m overlooking something that seems to be the best fit?
It’s probably just details being muddled by the writers, but I think it’s interesting. And the ambiguity is kind of nice, because people can tailor their headcanons how they see fit. Lots of potential for representation in this one character. (No matter what body your Cardinal Benitez has I love him. Forehead kisses muah muah)

SPOILERS!!!! 3s THEORY
I'm actually very proud of this theory rn and feel like a hawthorne for thinking of this, like I might actually be on to something here
Ok so I had a thought and its stuck in my mind
So we all know that Odette said some vague and confusing thing about “ There are always three”
And I think I have a good theory as to what it means
That being, I think that this phrase is a play on or nod to some of these other common sayings about threes
“Everything comes in threes”
“Bad things come in three” /“Good things come in threes”
“Death comes in threes”
Or “Omne trium perfectum” which means “everything that comes in threes is perfect” in Latin
These are all common saying about things happening in threes or what threes means
And I specifically think that Odette meant something about good/bad or life/death events happening in 3s
Or even about beginning/ending events happening (bc we all know she knows about Alphas and Omegas beginning and end)
I think this BECAUSE if you look back at where Odette says this you'll see that she says this in RESPONSE to grayson saying “she DIED before I was BORN”
Tumblr media
Grayson says his grandmother DIED BEFORE he was BORN and demands she EXPLAIN
He obv meant explain how is it possible for Alice to be the “A hawthorne did this” culprit but he doesnt specify explain what he just says explain and Odette probably choose to interpret that vaguely and gave an answer that “explains” or simplifies the reasons why Alice “died” and Graysons was “born” and says “there are always three”
Like she's saying “well everything comes in threes”/ “life and death happen in threes” that's the karmic reasoning why she “died” and you were born
And so obv Alices death and Grays birth are 2 life/death events and the third (or really FIRST) event would have been Tobys “death”
Which his death would also be the catalyst for both Alice’s death and Graysons birth
Bc Grayson would have never been born is Skye wasn't grieving her brother and although now we know Alice didnt die of grief id still say its safe to assume whatever happened was triggered by the loss of her son.
So the “thee” that Odette is referring to is Toby “died”, Alice “died”, Grayson is born
Everything comes in threes
But while I think this is what Odette meant when she choose to say this in response to Graysons demands for her to explain things I don't think that this is all that this phrase “There is always three” means, it has broader implications and could probably mean a lot of things
Its a vague and versatile phrase that Odette has heard many times, maybe as a warning. But there is definitely more to it, if I am right or heading in the right direction with my theory, then it could mean a lot of things and be important later on.
Also one last thing
I find it interesting how one of the common phrases “Omne trium perfectum” means everything that comes in threes is perfect and if my theory is correct then this would make GRAYSON one of the “things that comes in threes” and how in this phrase that would make him “perfect”
And we all know that he was the grandson who was GROOMED to be “perfect”
Could this be the reason that HE was “the chosen one”?
Was he the one Tobias choose bc he was part of the things that came in threes and has that karmical connection to Alice?
Idk but, its all very intriguing to me, and I can see so much potential and foreshadowing withing this little phrase that JLB very specifically used

One of the hardest things to do as a writer is make your characters realistically stupid about stuff that you, the author, happen to know a ton about.
Like, I know a ton about languages. But no character I've ever written has been a language professional like me, so it would be unrealistic for them to know a lot of stuff about languages. So I have to grit my teeth and write dialogue that's often full of small, unimportant (but GREATLY ANNOYING to me) errors, because that's what's realistic.
Anyway this is all because I was writing a character singing the song "Se a vida Ă©" by the Pet Shop Boys and then confidently telling another character "That means 'that's the way life is'" and it caused me PHYSICAL pain

Riju took the throne when she was a little older than five. Of course, Buliara was her regent and made most of the decisions, but in theory, Riju had all the rights and responsibilities as Chieftain. She's always had to present as much more mature than she (rightfully) is, and she's spent a lot of her life attempting to project experience and history that she doesn't - and can't - have yet.
It's often said that Riju is the spitting image of her ancestor, and this is by design. Her own mother was well-loved, but died very young, and her grandmother - Urbosa's daughter - is respected for holding the tribe together in the aftermath of the Calamity, but didn't hold a candle to her mother's charisma. When Riju took the throne, there were quite a few who thought that now was the best time to change the hands of the nation's leader. Luckily for her, her powers came in very quickly - even before her mother passed - and few were willing to fight an electric five year old. As she grew older, she drew as many outward comparisons to her great-grandmother as she could, and for the most part, the propaganda took.

the worst kid arguments to deal with are ones where they are just putting off the inevitable. yes, you don't want to do this. i understand. that is, however, not an option. you can fight and fuss about it for an hour and waste both our lives Or you can simply do the thing, which would likely take far less time. why do they always choose the long way.

Funny thing to explain that tends to fall on people's ears even with immense research is how versatile OCD is.
OCD simply refers to obsessive compulsive disorder. It's a disorder around an obsessive thought which distresses which then triggers an compulsion or urge that is done or is on the mind in order to sooth the obsessive thought.
Nowhere in this disorders description refers to cleaning or cleanliness so it does irk me that people still use the term "I'm so OCD" for referring to not standing mess. It's not only immesly rude but also further perpetuates the social myths of what OCD is vs the actual disorder.
I could elaborate further and have spent a long time researching the negative effects of disorders like OCD being buzz terms negatively effecting the people who struggle with OCD but that's another thought.
TLDR: OCD is not a cleanliness disorder or peak organization and schedules disorder. But an actual disorder that affects people in a variety of ways that's not silly goofy
