Acting like the OBWAT boys aren’t also some kind of messed up polycule
Tumblr media Tumblr media
O Brother:
Three escaped convicts searching for hidden treasure while a sheriff relentlessly pursues them. Its story is a modern satire which, while incorporating social features of the American South, is loosely based on Homer's epic Greek poem The Odyssey
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid:
the silliest polycule of crime commiters you've ever seen

It’s so fun to have your favorite character be someone a person could call “plain” and you’re fully just like yup :) that’s him :)
Kitty is the only artist I’ve ever worked with more than once. And I want to make it clear, that doesn’t say anything about anyone else I’ve worked with, everyone’s been fantastic. Instead, it should serve as a statement for how I feel about Kitty’s art. Because they are just that good.
This has been a project I’ve wanted to have done for a long long time, and without getting too much into it, it’s also one that’s kinda personal and that did hold some emotional weight- which I know sounds silly, but. It’s the truth. And from the very beginning, Kitty was not only on board with the idea, but seemed excited about it. There was so much thought and energy put in- and I can’t speak for it, but from my perspective, it seemed like it was having fun with this. Which- besides just being a fantastic artist- would explain how he created such a perfect, playful energy with this piece. Of course it’s playful. Playing is part of the process! (Ooh, alliterative)
I also want to give serious kudos just for like- what was achieved here. Because, just by virtue of this concept, of character design, I wasn’t really able to give references. I just threw this dweeby guy at it and told it to make him a bunny. From SCRATCH, essentially. And they did not falter a bit. Like, so incredibly on the ball. They took the little details that I shared and incorporated them so beautifully. Like look at him! Look at his little toad! He’s a man of constant sorrow! I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I love commissioning art because I get to see the characters I love through somebody else’s eyes. I get to see the silly ideas I’ve been turning over in my head for ages turned into something better. Something real. And I don’t think I could come up with anything that exemplifies that idea more than this piece.
It’s silly, but I love it so much I can’t look at it for too long. It’s just too cute, it makes me giggle…I don’t know. But the thing is, there’s so much to look at! I don’t want to hide from it, I want to take in all those details! The things that stay the same between human and bunny Delmar that take on a different light just by virtue of accompanying this big fuzzy guy- I don’t usually go for him wearing a hat in my commissioned pieces because I like his dumb haircut, but come on! It’s a bunny wearing a hat! The little rabbity things that are used so thoughtfully they communicate DELMAR so well, not just any, uh, giant rabbit bluegrass player: the fur on his chin looking like his scruff/stubble, his teeth (one of the reasons he’s a rabbit!) His fuzzy bits, especially that patch on his chin, the way the color scheme all plays so well together, the dynamism and unbridled joy that comes off of him and all those other little things that I see but can’t classify or name- it’s like looking at the sun. It’s really just fantastic stuff here.
Kitty, thank you for taking a chance with me here. And I highly encourage anyone looking to commission something to take a chance on Kitty.

another really fun commission for @steampunkhobo !! i was asked to turn delmar o'donnell into a furry... so i chose a jackrabbit since i thought it suited his lanky awkwardness and his Plainness :)

Keeping with his restaurant dreams, Pete is a big cook- in part because Delmar is absolutely hopeless at it. But Delmar still wants to help, and because Pete isn't in the habit of denying Delmar anything, he's regularly put on busywork: trimming green beans, pitting cherries, and the like. He spends more time talking to (read: distracting) Pete than actually doing his job, and by the end of it, he'll wind up so covered in cherry juice that Pete'll have to walk away from his work to kiss it all off. He needs something to keep him occupied while the pie crust chills, anyway.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: O Brother Where Art Thou? (2000) Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Pete Hogwallop & Delmar O'Donnell, Pete Hogwallop/Delmar O'Donnell Characters: Delmar O'Donnell, Pete Hogwallop, Penny Wharvey McGill, Ulysses Everett McGill Additional Tags: Screenplay/Script Format, sorry about that, Missing Scene, Post-Canon, Speculation, very old and unedited, But fun :), Implied Relationships, you can read Delmar and Pete as a couple or not Summary:
When I was in high school and beginning to solidify my obsession with this movie, I was tasked to write an extra scene for a movie in film class. I've always been kinda sad that only Everett got a real conclusion, and wanted to see where Delmar and Pete would end up. So I wrote this.
I know I literally JUST shared a new fic, but I was watching OBWAT last night with a friend, and when I mentioned that I had written this a couple years back, he suggested I post it. It’s a little rudimentary but I think it’s sweet 😊

You like the accents in OBWAT because they’re fun to laugh at…I like them because they are fun to imitate…we are honestly pretty similar
Can’t emphasize enough that these are all real stims 😭 I was trained to avoid physical stuff like hand flapping and rocking as a child so now this is how it manifests

I know it’s been a hot minute since I put out an OBWAT fic, and I swear that’ll change soon, but in the meantime, I’ve just put out a fic based on my good friend @oyeartillero’s ocs! This was a huge passion project for me (and a surprise for him hehe 🤫) and I put a lot of myself into this one, so I hope y’all’ll check it out :) And pleeeease check out his blog too, I could not love his art more. (Almost) all his ocs are supposed to be played by actors from OBWAT if that sweetens the pot for any of my followers 👀

I would like to further my argument by sharing that THIS is the way Pete smiles.
Tumblr media
That’s all :)
I’m so confident that in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Everett has ADHD (impulsivity and lack of foresight/very “flying by the seat of his pants attitude”, rejection sensitivity- “so you’re against me now, too”-, easily caught up in novelty and excitement even when more pressing matters are at play, somewhat more “socially competent” and effective at masking than his other neurodivergent peers, but not enough to fit into neurotypical society, etc) and Pete is autistic (naturally behaves and communicates in a way that often comes off as cold or standoffish, unwilling to follow plans and instructions without understanding the reason behind it which often gets him labeled as stubborn- “who elected you leader of this outfit” is a valid question!-, very strong and personal-but perhaps arbitrary- sense of justice, has 1.5 total facial expressions, etc) which is part of what leads to them clashing as much as they do- it’s Delmar, who is AuDHD (extreme difficulty understanding social cues, unclear instructions, and sarcasm, limited awareness/understanding of what’s going on around him, hyper-empathetic- literally gets fixated on the feelings of a violent bank robber-, easily excitable- which is why he gets involved with the robbery-, often attracts ire and/or mockery just by existing, etc) who is able to bridge the divide between Pete and Everett…and keep them from strangling each other.
