Lip has me honestly furious this episode. Like, I legit cannot stand him right now and would happily watch him getting punched in the face on repeat for ten hours straight.
Season 9 Episode 11 Rant.
First he gets pissed at Fiona for the DCFS's visit. Ignoring the part where he hadn't told her about any of it (Xan or the visit) beforehand so she was completely unprepared, he gets mad at her for things she didn't even do. I mean, if anyone, he should be pissed at Debbie! She left the hole in the floor. She left the three kids inside while she was outside pissing about with her brothers girlfriend. I know Fiona was drunk but that issue has nothing to do with the visit getting messed up yet Lip only blames Fiona for all of it. Fiona actually does her damn best to try and salvage the mess that's happening but it's treated like she half-assed it, if not deliberately sabotaged it.
And then with Jason. Fiona literally had no clue about him. How would she? The guy gave no indication as to who he was (like, there has to be some personal responsibility in this - if he had told Fiona he was recovering or in AA, I'm sure Fiona would have immediately pulled back from him). Yet Lip still screams at her for it like she purposely screwed him over for shits and giggles. Again, Fiona's definitely on a downward spiral and needs help to get out of it but that's for her own addiction, not someone else's. She doesn't need to be screamed at for things completely out of her control just because Lip's in a shitty mood.
But this is Lip all over. He's forever putting his own shit and frustration on other people and you know what, he sucks for it. He really fucking sucks and he has no right shouting at Fiona like this when he has been just as much a fuck up before when she was supporting him.
I'm usually open for discussions but I will not take any criticism on this. If Fiona has no clue about Xan, about DCFS, about Jason, you cannot blame her when shit goes sideways because you left her unprepared. It's pathetic the way it's all put on her.
If the writers wanted to make Fiona at fault, they should have actually made her at fault. Have her promise to babysit then ditch for a nap. Have her destroy the house in a drunk rage and forget to clean up. Have her insist Jason would be fine with just one drink because she was having one and didn't want to drink alone. Have her actually be at fault. Don't have her only crime be ignorance and then throw it all on her like she's purposely fucked everything up for everyone else.

idk if this is valid crit or just another “old man yells at clouds” moment but like. i kinda hate how the show got rid of the romantic angle of luke & annabeth’s relationship.
i’m sure people would jump to counter “ew you ship them!!1!” which like. as much as i like a good dark explorational toxic fic, that’s not the particular bias that’s making me think about this.
i think part of it is that they basically stripped the entire dynamic of anything emotional. they told-not-showed their way into “she’s my little sister”, with impossibly little interaction between the two before annabeth’s chucking a knife at him with no hesitation.
but like. in the books, their relationship has so many layers. platonic, familial, and yes, romantic. Annabeth’s feelings for him creates more of a rivalry between luke and Percy. It’s one of the things (including her familial feelings towards him, obv) that makes annabeth hesitant to face against him.
when luke is dying, he and annabeth’s last interaction is a pretty divisive topic in the fandom. it creates yet another layer of “is Luke really a hero or kind of a creep?” you don't have to like it, but at least it sparked interest and conversation.
idk, i think by stripping anything potentially dark or “problematic” from the books, you create a very sanitized world that doesn’t have nearly the same grit as the books, which are still perfectly acceptable to a child audience. like, you’re telling me it’s appropriate for luke to create a child army, but not for annabeth to have a crush on him? they could have written out anything on his end, too, and just left it one-sided with no nuance.
idk, it just feels like another shortcoming from the show, but this isn’t the first time diss knee has sanitized something that could have handled a bit more darker themes 🧍

ok i have some thoughts about cordelia and anya BOTH getting hurt by xander and their standing in their respective circles being shattered as a result. the popular crowd vs. vengeance demon circle. it defines them.
something about how those crowds are both being upheld/facilitated by men and the patriarchy:
cordelia being a paragon of popularity as a concept; a rich, desirable girl who also happens to be boy crazy.
and just the general idea that men act useless or abusive is so commonplace that it’s being capitalized on by vengeance demons which then becomes yet another way for men to shame women– for having the gall to get revenge on them. not to mention the leader of the famously female vengeance demon groups is a man. yeesh.
but xander of all people, fucking xander!? reaches through the veil and the women who were once untouchable and vicious become sweet on him, and in showing their hearts become real. but men, ie The Man (as proclaimed by joss fuckdon) don’t like real women because they’re messy unpredictable bitches.
and once the other leaders of their social circles see how her caricature has fallen away, cordy and anya get punished and shunned. doubly so, for having their heart broken by xander. triply so, because they know xander is a fucking loser. (i like xander this is not hate this is just facts)
final thing: it’s interesting how similar the idea of a ‘real’ woman is, to the popular girls and the vengeance demons. it’s about heartlessness i think. (i want to say that it stems from those groups being uncaring to men which joss cuntdon would deem as heartlessness, but it really isnt. they need the fucked-updeness of the patriarchy to even create these groups, but the fact that they’re groups of women at all is what forbids them from really winning. i guess it’s sort of a if-you-can’t-beat-em-join-em vibe. it just ends up putting down other women who fail to fit the bill.)
and it’s pretty funny that anya’s first introduction as a vengeance demon is for cordelia to get revenge on xander; there’s no way she would have thought she’d eventually fall for the same guy.

this part kinda cracks me up because wdym you never gave up on her? as soon as y'all saw an explosion, you declared her dead. you didn't even go back to check if she might have survived, you were like “oh oop- i guess she's gone now. rip entrapta” 🤡

It’s the fucking way that the show tried to make it seem like the cop who arrested Derek wasn’t biased as fuck just because he wasn’t operating on blatant racism that still pisses me off. Trying to convince us that it wasn’t really racism that was the problem, it was just Derek’s insistence on being so closed off and not cooperating properly after being targeted. Nah, Derek was the real issue /s.
Then his lame ass apology (a fucking nod of acknowledgement I guess) to Derek at the end of “Profiler, Profiled” always makes me roll my eyes. Like, yes, jackass, give us nothing. Even when the cop verbally apologizes to Derek in the next episode he shows up in its worthless, like I hate his ass nearly as much as Beaufort.

I just watched Tears of the Prophets girl what was that ??? Jadzia deserved better than to be fucking fire blasted alone halfway through praying what the hell !?! And then there was a significant lack of send off ? They couldn't have done a brief funeral scene where everyone talks about how much she meant to them ?? That faceless captain who crashed on a random planet from a few episodes back got more of a send off than Jadzia come the fuck on man
I'm sure there are behind the scenes reasons why she was killed off (which I will look into shortly. I guess) but seriously they couldn't have given it even a little bit more care ? For the death of a beloved character ? Who's been there for 6 full seasons of show ?
