Note
Do you have another social network besides Tumblr?
I do, but I really don't post much on any of them... I usually use them to follow artists and scientists whose work I'm interested in, rather than making an effort to post much myself.
I really am built to be more of a lurker than an active creator :'D

Thoughts on Future Collaborations
Collaborations are a fact of life for mobile gacha games, so I began wondering how P5X would handle them.  My first thought was potential events for the releases of P5T and P3Re, but then I realized that P5X may not be out of development by then.  So here’s my guesses at what may logically come in the future:
Other P5 spin-offs, past and future: If they’re planning any more it would make the most financial sense to use P5X for cross-promotion.  This is also the place they’d most likely go for future party members, given that they’re already part of the brand.  But on the other hand, maybe being part of the brand would mean that any spin-off thieves wouldn’t be reserved for events, they’d just be part of later versions the game?
Non-5 Persona games: The new SEES costumes in Reload would make great stand-ins for metaverse outfits.  And if P5X is still around by the time Persona 6 comes out there will absolutely be a collaboration.
Going outside the Persona brand is where things start to get iffy.
Other ATLUS games: SMT would be the most likely option.  Catherine and Metaphor might happen too, given their shared development teams with Persona.
Other Perfect World games: It’s easy to organize collaborations when you don’t have to negotiate with some other company’s lawyers…
Other gacha games: Persona 5 has had collaborations in the past, so it will probably continue to do so when the P5 gacha game launches.
But what form these collaborations would take is another question.
First off, I don’t expect them to add any party members that can’t remain in the pool.  Party members in this game require enough resources in this game that creating a new unit that you stop making money off of after the event is over.  And they might not want characters from outside the P5 brand in the game at all, depending on what the licensing agreement says.
But you know what could work for limited events?  Stuff like weapons and skins, things that don’t require too many resources to create but still look cool enough that players will want them.
Sorry for sending you my rambling thoughts, but I have speculation on this game and no one to share it with except for your blog.  Also, the reason I always send in submissions instead of asks is because they no longer allow people without accounts to send asks.
No worries, you’re good! That’s what this blog is for- I actually made it both because I wished there was a blog collecting official P5X news (and fanart), and also because I wanted to post theories somewhere and see what other people thought, hehe.
I think you’re right that P5X probably won’t release before P3R, let alone P5T; honestly, I’d be kind of shocked if it did. I can see P5′s various spinoff thieves getting added eventually though, especially given the little traces of Strikers in the P5X data already! Not sure whether events or just added story makes more sense for them- you bring up a good point with that, and I could see them going either way, I think. Honestly, I could even imagine them doing both an event and (possibly later) added story for any future P5 spinoffs that may happen?
I could see at least outfits/alternate skins and weapons based on the other Persona games showing up in P5X, I agree. I’m also kind of expecting there will be some form of those Velvet Room challenge battles involving the P3 and P4 protagonists from Royal here in P5X as well, given that Izanagi’s in the data as both a battle icon and a 3D model... along with Asterius, so Shadow Labrys may be joining that...? Though I suppose they could just be added as extra Personas in the gacha, similar to how they’re DLC in P5R. Adding in the actual teams from other Persona games as playable characters does seem a little more iffy to me, though, just because I don’t know how protective Atlus is over them/how determined Atlus is to keep them separate outside of games specifically indicated as crossovers, like the PQ games and Arena. Obviously I’d love to have them, but I could imagine why Atlus might not let them, so I suppose we’ll have to wait and see on that one.
Similarly, I wouldn’t be surprised by at the very least alternate skins/weapons referencing other SMT games, other Perfect World games, and maybe even other gacha games? That’s not that different from many of the DLC outfits in P5/P5R, so it feels like there’s enough of a precedent. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if P5 keeps having crossovers with other gacha games, too, hah? Not sure whether P5X will, to the extent of something like P5X characters appearing in other gacha games or vice versa, though... I feel like I don’t really know enough about that to speculate on it much.
Either way, though, I look forward to seeing how that all ends up going!

Faedom Week 2022 Event Guidelines
Faedom Week 2022 is a fanworks event to commemorate the conclusion of Not-Poignant’s Fae Tales Verse series, will be seven days long, and take place from September 4th to September 10th. The primary archive will be on tumblr, but you can post on any social you choose, and multiple ones if you wish. When the event goes live on September 4th, this tumblr will start reblogging all posts on tumblr, and sharing posts from other media with permission. Please use #FaedomWeek2022 when posting.
(Section 1 is in English, please scroll for French, German, and Italian)
Day 1 / September 4th: “Deeper into the Woods”; different first meeting; multishipping; domestic
Day 2 / September 5th: “Game Theory”; hurt/comfort; favorite scene; daemon AU
Day 3 / September 6th: “The Nightingale and Terho the Mouse-Lad”; heartsong; alignment reversal; formalwear and uniforms
Day 4 / September 7th: “The Court of Five Thrones”; love language; family; magic
Day 5 / September 8th: “The Ice Plague: Book 1 - The Forest of Fire”; alternate universe; hunger; masks
Day 6 / September 9th: “The Ice Plague: Book 2 - The Seething Seas”; modern AU; overpowered; shifters
Day 7 / September 10th: “The Ice Plague: Book 3 - The Ice Plague”; the future/after; soulmates; light
When can I post?
You can post when you like, but this tumblr will not start reblogging until 12:01 AM on September 4th, British Summer Time/Wales, UK (GMT+1).
What kind of things may I post?
Anything you’d like! There is by and large no limitation on medium or length. Faedom folks have done fanfiction, fanart (including drawings, paintings, sculpture, thread crafts, pottery), fanmusic, fanimation, cosplay, retrospectives, manips, photography, tiktoks, video compilations, memes… All and anything else you can think of should be fine! SFW and NSFW content is allowed.
The one exception is that we will not be reblogging/posting submissions containing AI-generated artwork in a final composition (more about this here). If the AI-generated piece is actually used in the final work and is visible/not covered by other non-AI-generated artwork by the poster/submitter, it will not be reblogged/posted on the event blog. To a certain extent, this is something we may not always spot immediately, so if we post such a piece by accident and it's later brought to our attention, we may take it down, but this will be approached on a case-by-case basis.
Will the event be spoiler free?
The event is specifically taking place after the conclusion of canon so that folks can put up stuff for the ending if they wish, or any point in canon or all Fae Tales Verse AUs, so the event will not be spoiler-free.
I don’t have a tumblr/don’t want to link back to my tumblr/my accounts for this event, can I still participate?
If you don’t have a tumblr or don’t wish to post somewhere other than tumblr, either, you can submit your work directly to the event tumblr. Tumblr will ask you for a name and an email address, but doesn’t check if they’re real, so you can make one up (e.g., Anon at [email protected]), and the email address, whether real or fake, will not appear when the post is posted publicly. You can also message the mods here or on Discord about posting on your behalf.
What if I post somewhere that isn’t tumblr?
If you’d like the work to be shared on tumblr even though it’s posted elsewhere, you can message the event tumblr to let us know where it is and that it’s okay to link here, post on Discord and let us know you’re okay with it to be linked on the event tumblr, or, if possible, one of the event mods will contact you to ask if it’s all right to link on the event tumblr. Or you can just submit it directly to the event tumblr.
Will there be an event twitter or other social?
Outside Discord, there aren’t central fandom centers, so the tumblr will be it, though it is still okay to post on other socials! There will be no event collection on Archive of Our Own, either, but the tag will still be helpful to find all the fics!
Do I have to post every day?
No! You can post on as many or as few days as you wish! You can even post multiple times a day if you’d like! Some folks wait until the end of an event to post everything at once, and that’s fine, too! The event tumblr will be active until midnight on September 17th, British Summer Time/Wales, UK (GMT+1), so you have lots of time!
Do I have to post something that aligns with one/all of the daily prompts?
No! You can post something for one, some, all, or none of the daily prompts! You can even post something for a daily prompt on a different day (e.g., “Deeper into the Woods” is day 1, but if you wanted to post something for it on Day 4, that’s fine). The prompts are there to help creativity, but you can ignore any/all of them as you wish! The goal of the event is to celebrate Not-Poignant’s Fae Tales Verse, so anything that is Fae Tales Verse related is great, even if it doesn’t follow the event schedule!
I can’t post on x day because I’m busy/will be somewhere without good Internet connectivity, but don’t want to be late!
As stated above, the tumblr will be active for about a week after the event ends, and you don’t have to post specific things on specific days if you don’t want to or are unable to. But if you’d like a post to go up on a specific day, you can submit it to this tumblr, and we’ll post it on the requested day.

Non!

Was darf ich posten?
Alles, was du möchtest!
Nein!

1° Giorno / 4 settembre: “Deeper into the Woods”; different first meeting; multishipping; domestic2° Giorno / 5 settembre: “Game Theory”; hurt/comfort; favourite scene; daemon AU
3° Giorno / 6 settembre: “The Nightingale and Terho the Mouse-Lad”; heartsong; alignment reversal; formalwear and uniforms

5° Giorno / 8 settembre: “The Ice Plague: Book 1 - The Forest of Fire”; alternate universe; hunger; masks

7° Giorno / 10 settembre: “The Ice Plague: Book 3 - The Ice Plague”; the future/after; soulmates; light”
Devo necessariamente postare tutti i giorni?
No! Alcune persone preferiscono aspettare fino all’ultimo giorno e postare tutti i loro lavori insieme, e quest’opzione è comunque accettata!
No!
Come posso fare?

Thirty Days and Counting
First, man, this year already seems to be zipping by. RL things have put some fandom stuff on the back burner a bit, so many apologies for not being around here lately. Especially when there was so much good stuff taking place during the 12 Days of White Collar. We're still pretty much in awe of all you guys for showing up and showing out on that! Thank you a million times over.
And, we're here today hoping you've got even more creativity left inside you as we announce our next fan creation event--Mozzie Mania!
Of course, there's still so much profound sadness at losing Willie last year, but we're hoping to focus on the happiness that he brought us when he brought Mozzie to life. So, in Willie's honor, we'll be hosting Mozzie Mania on his birthday, February 20th.
As always, we're hoping to see many different kinds of creations--fanfic, fanvids, fanart, gifsets, heck, give us a blog post about Mozzie's favorite conspiracy theories. If Mozzie's front and center, it's all fair game!
There are no specific prompts this time around, but we do have a theme: Moz Deserves a Happy Ending; feel free to interpret it as you wish.
Tumblr media
As always, we'll have a collection on AO3 for anything that can be shared there (which is a lot of stuff), and if you share it elsewhere, just please @ us so we'll see all the great creations.
So, put your creative caps on, start spreading the word far and wide among your other fandom friends, and thirty days from now, we'll have one heck of a Mozzie party! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

More than Meets the Eye, beginner’s guide / resources
This guide is long. Use the headings to find the information you need & if you’ve got resources this post lacks send them along!
Tumblr media
Has anyone pitched the comic More than Meets the Eye to you yet? It’s a very gay action-adventure comedic drama with robots and you would probably love it (especially if you’re lgbt and/or have good taste). Here’s a few posts/articles that will tell you why you’d love it:
This article review/retrospective was what got me to read MTMTE. (warning - it has a bunch of spoilers, that didn’t bother me but might bother you)
My semi-jokey MTMTE sales pitch
@zzxid’s salespitch with dancing rats
This full entire page of radical space socialist philosophy
15 Reasons Why MTMTE/the sequel is The Best Transformers Comic (warning - has spoilers, though some will prob go over your head as a new reader)
Kiss me, Chromedome - retrospective article by The Guardian, contains some spoilers
Tumblr media
How/Where to Read
Okay, maybe you’re convinced. Now you want to know how/where to read MTMTE. Got you covered:
Detailed guide by @gaymilesedgeworth: How to start reading Transformers Comics
My very short answer: just read MTMTE in trade paperback form. That way all the issues are in order and you get all the extra stuff (there are prose stories after a couple issues that are very important so don’t skip them!) They’re available that way as both physical and digital books.
Here’s some ways to get access, legally (US centric, sorry):
If your local library has Hoopla (digital library subscription service), you may have access to some of the MTMTE trades that way. They’d be here; but check if you library has Hoopla first.
Your local library very well might have physical copies, so check their website!
If not and you’re very patient you can often request inter-library loans (your library borrows the books from another library) or request your library purchase materials.
You can buy digital trades via either IDW or Comixology. Comixology also includes the first 5 volumes in their comics subscription service. I’ve seen the series go on sale on both of these sites at least 4 times in the past 6 months, so keep an eye out! (Sometimes IDW participates in humble bundles, which are great, but those sales are far more infrequent)
You can also buy them in trade form from wherever you can buy books/comics. US links: Amazon, B&N, Comic Store Locators

So you’ve picked up this comic and oh boy there are a lot of robots. You’re a little intimidated. Maybe you’re having a hard time telling them apart.
If you have the paperback, there’s a guide to the characters on the back cover/the last page of the digital volume. See a copy here.
It’s okay if you keep reading not knowing who these robots are. For real. You’ll get the hang of it. Don’t worry if it takes you awhile and you’re confused. Everyone’s a little lost the first time through.
Some helpful posts in case you’re struggling:
Here’s a guide that matches appearance -> name, and one that matches name -> background info (both spoiler free for issues 1-22)
A visual guide by @squireofgeekdom and @kscinewt: here
Another helpful visual character guide by @bluering8: here
If you’re confused and need help, please ask! I’m willing to answer questions, I know @gaymilesedgeworth has volunteered to answer new reader questions. (Willing to help out new readers? Lemme know and I’ll make this a list)
Tumblr media
Lore & Background Info
Okay, so maybe now you’ve gotten into it. You want more information, you want to know all the background lore, you want to dig deep. Awesome! Got you covered!
The holy grail of Transformers information, TFwiki. A slightly snarky, overly-minutely-detailed wiki for the digital age.
They’ve also got a tumblr if you’ve got questions.
And Chris McFeely, one of the main editors, runs a Youtube series called The Basics where he explains characters/concepts across continuities
The podcast Sound.wav has episodes talking about every issue of MTMTE in great detail.
The writer of More than Meets the Eye, James Roberts, answers fan questions on his twitter. I’ve archived a lot of those questions at @jrtweetsindex.
More than Meets the Eye has a soundtrack, because of course it does. People have made playlists collecting it on spotify and youtube.

Further Reading
I finished MTMTE, what’s next?
If you want the direct sequel to MTMTE, go straight to Lost Light, the sequel series. It’s still ongoing and (as of right now) 12 issues have been released. There are spoilers for it EVERYWHERE on Tumblr, fair warning.
There are also a bunch of other series within the IDW comics universe, depending on what you’re interested in.
@zandergb has a chronological listing of all the IDW comics
TFwiki summarizes the IDW comics line
alt chronological guide
another guide/reading order.
You don’t have to read all the books! If you want to just read Lost Light/MTMTE, you can do just that.
There’s also a bunch of animated series, which don’t exist in the same continuity as the IDW comics. Some of them are well liked.
@ponett has a guide that’ll help you decide which you’d enjoy
And here’s a brief guide by TFWiki
There’s also the Michael Bay movies which are awful and so is he. Not gonna recommend watching them, but if you wanted to learn about film theory by listening to Lindsay Ellis dissect them, there’s a youtube series for that.
Tumblr media
Fan Stuff
Okay...but what about fan content and fanfic and art and community events?
First thing to know: Transformers content is posted on tumblr under the tag Maccadam. (more detailed explanation why) A lot of mtmte content is also under ‘mtmte’, so look there too. I only use Maccadam if I think a post deserves to be seen by a lot of people but opinions vary.
Second thing to know - the sequel to MTMTE, Lost Light is still being published and you will see ALL SORTS OF SPOILERS for it on Tumblr. To mitigate the damage, try blocking “LL Spoilers” “Lost Light Spoilers” and “Wednesday Spoilers”. You cannot avoid it all, so if you don’t want anything spoiled, get caught up on both MTMTE and Lost Light before browsing around Tumblr.
Fanfiction:
Warning! A lot of Transformers fanfiction is smut. Please take a moment to integrate this fact into your understanding of the universe. If you can handle that, go ahead to AO3.
If you’re curious about all the terminology used in those fics, here’s a guide to it (not every writer uses every word, but this will get you started)
If you’re not into the idea of robots having sex, here’s a link to AO3 with my personal best-effort safe-search (no guarantees, relies upon people tagging properly)
And here’s a blog dedicated to recommending good sfw transformers fanfiction
If you want to know more about Transformers fanfic, I did a whole statistical survey of it, cause I’m a dork.
Here’s an old-school Transformers-only fanfic archive (I don’t see a category for IDW comics but maybe you can find somehing)
Fanart&Fanfic Events/Zines/Gift Exchanges/Collaborative Projects:
As many active projects as I could find - I’ll try to keep this one updated
Fan Artists:
(same warning as the fanfic - there’s a goodly amount of transformers pornographic art, be aware of that and block ‘nsfw’ if necessary)
There are a ton of active fanartists who draw IDW Transformers art. If you search a bit under ‘Maccadam’ you’ll find them.
@iaconlibrary reblogs a great deal of fanart & is a great place to start browsing
Roleplay:
If you’re into roleplaying on tumblr @teletrans-comm-unit runs a master list of active rp blogs
Transformers: Lost and Found is a long-running independent game set on the Lost Light
TF:Galaxy appears to be a forum-based tf roleplay game
My Favorite Jokes:
The best amazon review
Emotional labor (nsfw-ish warning)
Bros with Vows
Hands
Conventions:
There are Transformers-specific conventions, which is pretty cool! I know nothing about them but tfwiki has some info: Official and Unofficial conventions.
Regrettable Opinions:
hey this is just a quick guide of things not to do so you don’t hurt other people in the community
Do not compare Megatron to Hitler. The comparison is both vapid and offensive, as Jewish members of this community have pointed out time and again.
Don’t say transphobic/homophobic/racist/antisemitic/sexist things. You’re better than that!
Don’t attack the creators of the books/harass them on social media/make bizarre unfounded accusations of them acting in bad faith
we’re really lucky that JRo and the other creators interact with us & answer questions and don’t you dare screw that up, I’m trusting you.
on a less serious but useful etiquette note: don’t tag creators into negative reviews of their work/people complaining about their work. It’s rude to the creator & the reviewer.
That was a short list but remember to also treat other people with respect & that it’s okay to disengage with content/people that upset you.
Fandom:
There’s a guide on Fanlore, but it’s freakishly outdated and doesn’t even mention the comics. If you’re a informed tf fan maybe you should update it. 😉
Tumblr!
MTMTE is a pretty small community on Tumblr, but there are a few cool folks. Remember, ‘maccadam’ and ‘mtmte’ are your tags of choice
Various websites!
Since the transformers fandom is super old, there are a bunch of dedicated websites with traditional forums to chat on. (most of these are news sites that also contain forums) idk anything about them but maybe forums are your thing:
TFW2005 - big site with a large community but be warned there appear to be more than a few alarmingly bigoted people on that site
TFormers
Cybertron.CA
Allspark.com
Seibertron
I’m gonna throw the IDW TF reddit on this list rather than make a new section
Discord!
there’s at least two active discords at the moment. I know nothing about them or discord, but maybe one of them would be to your liking:
#1 - run by @zzxid
#2 - run by ??
The community is, like all fan communities, is a mix of good and bad, awkward and friendly, opinionated and goofy, self-serious and offensive. You won’t like or agree with everyone and there are some folks you should probably block.
Just find some people who share your general outlook & are interacting with the books in the same way you want to 💕
-Lynn. I have no qualifications to write this guide, I am not an authority of anything. I just really want you to love these books. Last updated on Dec 24, 2017, click through to check for any updates.

Note
may i kindly ask you all the oc questions?
Yes, yes you may.
Quick note:  A few OCsI won’t mention by name and a few answers will be vague just as to not spoilanything.  I have an entire fanversegoing on here.
-50 OC Asks-
Quick reference:  Meri is the Hero of Kvatch.  Arrais a Breton mage in Skyrim.  Dreyns is a Dunmer assassin.  Vitiais the Dragonborn.  Sannit is an old, former Ashlander. Veabris is an Ayleid who’saround back before the First Era.  Jaka is the Nerevarine.  Estor isNot a Thalmor ™.  Stigr is a proud Nord boi.  La’Mihr is a smart kitty.  One-Who-Knowsis yearning for the suburban Skyrim dream.
 1. “Your first OCever?”
That would be proto Meri. She was really the first that grew into an actual character.  She was also supposed to star in an Oblivionrewrite/webcomic/fanfic thing I drew like one page of years ago.
2. “Do you have a personal favouriteamong your OCs?”
I like different ones for different reasons!  Arra’s dialogue and one-liners, Dreyns’swhole ark of getting old, Vitia’s philosophy, etc.  etc.
3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else?
Nope.  And I’d neverconsider them mine.  I handcraft them andbake them one-of-a-kind each time.  Butmore seriously, the most I could take is an idea for a character, because Ialways like to twist things on their head and really make it my own.  I don’t enjoy writing NPCs for thisreason.  I can’t get in their head and myheadcanons get a bit much, so I’d rather just write for those I know.
4. “A character you rarely talk about?”
Tactus Gavros Sigilis!  An inspector/investigator for the Empirein Skyrim.
5. “If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be?”
I think that’s not really up to me.  I can’t decide who fans will latch onto.  I know who’s the most well-liked at thistime, but that’s no indicator of who would be well-loved by a much wideraudience.  I’ll leave this one to my fans!
6. “Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related?”
I do my best to give everyone unique looks andclothing/color schemes, but!  There’sthree that got based on each other and aren’t the same but even I’m confusednow.  I’ll make a separate post to breakit down.
7. “Are your OCs part of any story or stories?”
None of them exist outside of the Elder Scrolls universe, and I have yet to write fanfiction.
8. “Do you RP as any of your OCs? If you do, introduce one of your RP OCs here!”
Currently Arra, Sannit, and Veabris.  Though I think I’m game to RPing any of them,I already have a few more that I want to add to my RPing blog!  (btw, if you like the idea of RPing with me,all you have to do is ask.)
9. “Would you ever be willing to give any of your OCs to someone else?”
No.  Not give, nevergive.  But that doesn’t mean they can’tappear in your writing/meta/art, just that it’s a crossover, you don’t own themjust like I don’t own yours when I allude to them in RPs.  (Did I ever post that here?)
10. “Introduce an OC with a complicated design?”
All the ones I don’t draw, lol
Okay, more seriously…no, that’s pretty much why.
11. “Is there any OC of yours you could describe as a ‘sunshine’?”
100% Arra
12. “Name an OC that isn’t yours but who you like a lot”
Can I say all of them? My favorites are the ones who are woven into the lore and pre-existingcharacters, and ones that feel like real people and not just “ArgonainDragonborn #76”.  I like the ones whotake it as seriously as me, and as I see people do, I feel more confident totalk about and expand them.
13. “Do you have any troublemaker OCs?”
Actually, not really.  Dreyns, Jaka and Stigr can all be at times, though.
14. “Introduce an OC with a tragic backstory”
I want to legit change that to one without tragedy in theirbackstory because they’re all tragic…
15. “Do you like to talk about your OCs with other people?”
Sometimes!  But I trynot to go overboard because I’m not sure if people like it.
16. “Which one of your OCs would be the best at biology (school subject)?”
My Daedric biologist, I would imagine.
17. “Any OC OTPs?”
I’m not much of a shipper, honestly.  And I really can’t think of any at themoment.
18. “Any OC crackships?”
Read 17.
19. “Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)”
I’ll pass on this one only because my answer would start gettingtoo personal for this ask.
20. “Do any of your OCs sing? If they sing, care to share more details(headcanon voice, what kind of songs they like etc)?”
Veabris has a beautiful singing voice that would sound agood deal like Annie Lennox.  Actually, just listen to “Into the West” and you’re good to good.  But you’ll never hear it because Vea is superself-conscious and private about singing.
21. “Your most artistic OC?”
You know, I think I overlook making them artistic justbecause I am.  It would be too obvious.  But let’s say Stigr and La’Mihr are.
22. “Is there any OC of yours people tend to mischaracterize? If yes, how?”
In world or OOC? That’s a really important distinction! But Veabris’s intentions are usually misinterpreted.
23. “Introduce an OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what thecharacter would be like?”
Most of them!  I workon them for a while until I feel they’re ready to be revealed.  24. “If you could meet one OC of yours, who would it be and why?”
Don’t do this to me!!!!  Ahhhh I don’t know I love them all! But Jaka would probably be the most fun to hang out with?  Then again, a day out with Sannit would begreat.
25. “The OC that resembles you the most (same hobby, height, sharedlike/dislike for something etc?)”
Meri.
26. “Have you ever had to change your OC’s design or something else about themagainst your will?”
Arra and yes, I’m still bitter about it.  I won’t get into it because I’d rather notmake posts like that, but if anyone would like to know feel free to message me.
27. “Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?”
Nah, they come about and the songs fit them after.
28. “Your most dangerous OC?”
Okay!  So we haveMankar Camoran’s kid, Molag Bal’s Undying Champion, a lesser Daedric Prince anda double-memoried Godkiller.  Have funwith that battle royal!
29. “Which one of your OCs would go investigate an abandoned house at nightwithout telling anyone they’re going?”
Tactus Gavros Sigilis, it’s his literal job.  Wait it’s Estor’s too.  …And kinda Veabris’s.  Well!
30. “Which one of your OCs would most likely have a secret stuffed animalcollection?”
It’s Dreyns.  It’s soDreyns.
31. “Pick one OC of yours and explain what their tumblr blog would be like(what they reblog, layout, anything really)”
Sannit treats it like a regular website blog and only postsstories from his life or answers to asks. No reblogs and he doesn’t follow anyone.
Meri posts advanced DYI stuff and martial technique.
32. “Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonistand why?”
I don’t play horror games but I’m thinking Estor in creepy, culty fan theory version of Rorikstead. (Should I write this?)
33. “Your shyest OC?”
She’s so shy she won’t let me talk about her.
34. “Do you have any twin characters?”
Not yet!
35. “Any sibling characters?”
Yes but I won’t say just now.  Spoilers!
36. “Do you have OC pairs where the other part belongs to someone else(siblings, lovers, friends etc)?”
Not currently, but I’m not against doing it.
37. “Introduce an OC who is not quite human”
The Argonian, One-Who-Knows! He’s saving up money to buy a new fancy hat right now.  Rock on, scaly bro!
38. “Which one of your OCs would be the best dancer?”
I feel like it would be Vitia for some reason.
39. “Introduce any character you want!”
THESE QUESTIONS ARE TOO VAGUE AGHHHH!!
40. “Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share!”
Writing “Arra’s Story” (An RP post).  The power and emotion of it and the approvingly, emotionally shocked reactions of my fellow players made me realize I couldactually write good.
41. “Has anyone drawn fanart of your OCs? If yes, maybe show a picture or twohere (remember sources & permissions!)”
Here and here  😊
42. “Which one of your OCs would be the most interested in Greek gods?”
Daedric biologist person would be!
43. “Do you have any certain type when you create your OCs? Do you tend tofavour some certain traits or looks? It’s time to confess!”
We already found out I like investigators, is that my type?
44. “Something you like about your OCs in general”
I like how they all have gotten their own personality andidentity.  It’s taken a lot of work, but Idon’t feel like personalities repeat anymore.
45. “A character you no longer use?”
I have a few in limbo. I’m not sure if they’re coming back or they’re
46. “Has anyone ever told you that you treat your OCs badly?”
No.  Only because Ihaven’t told them about all the bad things I’ve done to them in the first place.
47. “Has anyone ever (friendly) claimed any of your OCs as their child?”
Not yet, there’s still time.
48. “OC who is a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure?”
I think they call this a “hot take”, but in my opinion everyperson has flaws and depicting them otherwise is bad character writing.  Like sure, they can be nice and all, but theystill topple the board over when they’re losing Risk (or Axis & Allies).  Showing only one side of a character seriously,(not if it’s just for laughs) is boring to me. Where’s the growth?  They don’teven need to have “flaws” per se.  Whatif the “One True Hero to Save the World” is balled up on the floor crying tothemselves because they don’t think they’re strong enough?  Hot take over and it’s probably little kidDreyns.  (Which breaks hearts because hegrows up into something not pure.)
49. “Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memes”
Arra would love meme songs like “SEAGULLS! (Stop ItNow)“He-man singing “What’s up?”, and “mmm whatcha say”.  And Jaka would love reaction gifs and objectlabeling memes.
50. “Give me the good ol’ OC talk here. Talk about anything you want”
I wanna talk about how long it took to fill this out and howmany characters I resurrected from the darkest depths of my mind to completeit.  You’re welcome.  ♥

So... about that Comment...
I apologize but this is going to be longer ... I spent some time wondering if I should answer this post and if so, how. Usually I do not start discussions on the internet. I think there is no use to it, because the net distort statements and is the germ of evil. Especially pages like FB or Tumblr. But in this case I decided to say something simply because, to be honest, I was quite surprised. And a little to proud to say nothing. So first of all I've been following a Bleach blog recently. The user of the blog said that it is unnecessary to justify your headcanons or how you interpret a character. Whether gay, trans or anything else. And I fully agree to this. These are fictional characters which you rarely get any information about and if you want to see them in a specific context, you should do that! Absolutely right! Now the user talked about a Grimmjow-post which I also happened to know. The user posting this Grimm-post explained in a fan- theory that Grimmjow could be Trans*. For this, he / she used screenshots, collected clues etc., to explain other users how he or she came up with this idea and what could speak for it. (Something that happens in the fan culture every day everywhere in all topics.) Now the user of the Bleach- blog said that this kind of justification would be transphobic because it would outcall trans people by highlighting certain characteristics. This in turn would be hurtful and would only fuel prejudice. That posts like that aren't necessary. (Short version) I found this statement a bit exaggerated but I know that certain topics have to be addressed with a lot of sensitivity. But as I occasionally comment on posts on Tumblr I commented that I knew the Grimmjow-Post and found an analysis like this very interesting because it showed me something I probably never would have thought off. I also said that people love to analyze their favorite characters - because they can be interpreted in the way you want. This is also part of the fan culture. And I said that the user of the Grimm-post is not transphobic because he / she just wanted to share this theory with their co-fans. After all Grimmjow is a fictive character who too can be interpreted as you like... So much for the origin of the story. Well, regarding to my short comment, which was maybe 6 sentences long, came an extremely long answer in which I was taught the better and my post was tagged as transphobic .... And here I start my answer because now it's me who has a lot to say. And as calm and neutral as possible. My comment was in no way transphobic nor was it supposed to sound like that, nor am I transphobic. I am part of the LGBTQ + community myself and support everyone and have no prejudices. That's a fact and everyone who knows me knows that. That's for me. My comment has in no way addressed anyone negatively. It was a neutral statement. No more and no less and if that was taken in some form wrong, I'm sorry. My post did not refer to gender identities or attacked anybody intentionally or unintentionally. I was referring to the interpretation of characters, how to share analysis and fan theories and what intentions might be behind them.
This wasn't supposed to be some discussion about transphobia or gender. I'm more than aware that many people are transphobic and condescending and that's a big problem but I'm also honest and say you have to draw a line at some point. I referred only to the Grimmjow-post and what the original user may have thought - sharing a simple theory with others. Without malicious thoughts. It may be that some feel uncomfortable with such analysis and theories because the subject requires a lot of sensitivity but nowadays the charge of trans- or homophobia is being thrown around so quickly that I am often startled. And since the Tumblr answers give no place for it, I will explain the thought of my post here in more detail: The user of the Grimmjow-post is a Bleach fan and never had bad intentions nor did he / she want to hurt anyone. And he / she did not hurt anyone. He / she wanted to share a simple theory, as many do because he / she had that idea. In a positive way. That's how I see it. That's called Fan Culture. You can not expect that all the world has the same views as you or even know these aspects in the first place. Maybe the Grimmjow-Post was triggering for some. Maybe it was insensitive in some way. But that does not make the author transphobic nor the statement. As before it was primarily about the interpretation of fictional characters. Of course, you do not treat fictional characters like real people. If we were to do that, there wouldn't be a thousand fanarts or fanfics about pairing characters who have nothing to do with each other and whos privacy is disregard in a big way. You have to justify yourself to real people because they have feelings that you can hurt. That's why many FFs about real people are banned. I realize that one can transfer their feelings to a fictional character, but people shouldn't equate a fictive character with a real person. Fictional characters are being analyzed to death. They belong to the entertainment culture and the entertainment media. Of course, one could now argue with the (missing) representation of trans * figures in the media or the human nature of having to put everything in drawers in order to categorize the world. Also, one could consider that such a categorization is wrong because we are all the same – humans. But I do not open that barrel because it goes beyond the scope.
Long story short for me that Grimm post nor my post weren't an attack on Trans * people. It was a simple analysis. A fan theory that used ‘evidences’ to explain not to expose or to treat it as canon or force it on anybody. And just because I see it that way that doesn't make me transphobic. Because the Grimm-post was neutral. The user was excited to share this theory. With enthusiasm. It was not a justification to expose the character or to highlight his feminine qualities to proof he once was female and therefore vilify his true gender. Would you do that to a real person? Of course not, because it would be rude and humiliating. But if you would prevent any posts like the Grimm-Post then there would be no more discussions (or fun) at all and that would be much more problematic. Because you should talk about it, should spread ideas like this because there are not enough Trans * figures. And if, they are mostly used for comic relief. Would Grimmjow see it as an attack if he was analyzed like that? He would probably punch you in the face. Because he would always do that at any time. We don't know because he doesn't exist. Therefore you can address such theories and collect evidence if you want to make your blogpost more interessting. That is not wrong as long as it is not insulting. Just like theories and fanart about homosexual figures, because there are enough of them. To say you do not need such posts basically means you do not need posts or 'proofs and justifications' in any topic. Also no evidence about eg IchiRuki or IchiHime by collecting screenshots or panels that underpin their romance. In doing so, we force these two into a relationship and feelings that we don't know if they exist. Is the principle understandable? And to immediately label people and their posts as transphobic just because they do not share your own point of view or because you are feeling attacked because you transfer everything to yourself is not very beneficial. I think it scares those who want to support Trans * people. For me, the Grimmjow-Post was not transphobic. My comment was not transphobic. Fan theories are not transphobic as long as you treat the topic with respect and do not become insulting. You can interpret every character as you like. In every form. You should not have to justify yourself or listen to insults but you can and should spread fan-theories no matter what topics they address. As long as you remain respectful and supportive!
After reading that Grimm-Post I thought about it. Of cause Tite Kubo never thought of Grimmjow this way, something like that is not topic for a shonen series (he did it with one of the Sternenritter, Giselle I guess? But that wasn't very well portrait...)
But would it be interessting? Hell yeah! It would be great! And that is something positive.
Should you do an analysis like this with a real person? Hell no! That is something negative.
Not everyone has an eye for sensitive topics or find the right words so that no one feels attacked. Everyone has different views and a different tolerance. But a simple post about a bleach topic and a fan theory of another user does not make my statement transphobic and I will not be persuaded. I'm sorry if someone can't understand that or feels attacked.

unsung heroes
Part 1 of the ends justify the means series
read on AO3
The mystery of ‚Deku‘ - villain, vigilante, or victim?
Aizawa Shouta eyeballs the online article Hizashi sent him with the kind of look that has sent students and adults alike into frantic searching for an excuse to leave the room right now. A more offending mass of villain-romanticising word vomit he has rarely seen. Full of poorly researched facts, conjecture, and lies. There has never been any evidence of Deku being a victim of any kind (not that they have any clue as to his true identity), though Shouta will admit that kids don’t just become villains for no good reason.
(In a better mood, he might also admit that Deku has shown himself to be suspiciously helpful, for a villain. Using the term vigilante for him would not be entirely unreasonable, if it weren’t for the fact that the individual in question calls himself villain, and some of his actions could not possibly have had the protection of society in mind.)
The picture decorating the article is that of a fourteen-year old boy with long green curls and eyes, freckles, and what just about every so-called adult in Shouta’s orbit has declared to be an ‘adorable smile’ on one occasion or another. The caption below the picture informs the reader that it was provided by Deku himself, since it was really sad that those the newspapers usually used tended to be blurry and altogether unflattering.
More offending than this is the second link he’s been sent, this time by Nemuri. The interview. This villain gave an actual interview to the press like some celebrity. Not a single person called a hero for aid, either.
If Shouta’s quirk worked like that, his computer would be on fire right now. He watched the whole thing, of course. It offends Shouta on a personal, never before reached level solely because the boy wears green cat ears, has whiskers drawn on his face, and his eyes sport slit pupils.
Student gossip will discuss if this might finally be the reveal of Deku’s real quirk despite the fact that it’s he's obviously wearing contact lenses.
“And finally,” the Deku in the video says. “I’d like to greet my good friends, Eraserhead and Sansa-san from the police! Oh, and Present Mic, I kind of wanted to do give him the interview, but for some reason I’m not allowed in his studio. Furthermore, I would also like to greet All Might, whom I have never met at this point in time but admire very much."
Shouta is going to make life so unpleasant for Deku.
“Haha, always the jokester, Deku!” the interviewer laughs. “May I ask, your costume…”
“Oh, just an inside joke,” Deku giggles adorably and winks at the camera, cat eyes twinkling with mirth. Shouta may be a hero, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t occasionally indulge in murder fantasies. This is one such occasion.
“Well then, let’s start the interview!” The interviewer holds up a stack of flash cards. “We’ve collected viewer’s questions on social media about things they would like to know about you. We’re very happy you actually came in to answer them!”
“Ah, I’m so nervous, I’ve never done this before…” Deku fans himself with his hand. His cheeks are blushing.
“Oh, you’re doing just fine. Now then, first question, asked by Denki-kun: What is your quirk, Deku-sama?”
Deku bursts into giggles, immediately apologising, then laughing some more. And apologising again. Then he says something about how he can’t possibly reveal it since his sidekicks would kill him and laughs some more.
Sidekicks. Damn him. Villains don’t have sidekicks.
The interview doesn’t get any better after that. Do you like guys or girls? (Yes), Are you secretly a unicorn? (Yes), Are you dating your sidekicks? (Don’t kiss and tell!), Do you accept fanart? (Yeah, just submit it to our newly established blog!)
Wait. What blog. No.
Goddamnit.
Just what the hell is wrong with these kids?!
“Oi! Fucking Deku! Did you bring the milk?”
Izuku drops in through the window. The penthouse of the abandoned hotel is on the twentieth floor. Long live the inventor of the grappling hook gun.
This place has been their base of operations for several years now. The one place where they can truly be themselves. Where they can both plot and relax.
“Here,” he says, handing over the carton of milk. It’s snatched from him, and a moment later the kitchen door slams behind Kacchan.
Izuku throws himself onto the couch, head landing in the occupant’s lap. “Hey, Shouto.”
Shouto makes a vague noise of acknowledgment, scrolling through his phone with one hand, the other patting Izuku’s hair.
“Anything new?” Izuku asks.
“Approximately ninety percent of the hero community are now following our blog,” Shouto answers. Izuku gasps.
“Even All Might?”
“No. Sorry.” Izuku wilts. “Present Mic and Midnight do, though. Principal Nedzu, too. The moment we post anything, the entire hero community will know about it.”
Good. Still…
“Gotta appreciate the irony of heroes getting their information directly from villain social media.”
“Yeah,” Shouto agrees. “We need to think about publicity more.” He shifts Izuku around before he folds himself around him in a full-body cuddle. Then he snaps a selfie, edits it, and posts it on the blog with the caption, ‘Just another peaceful day at the Deku Villain Office’. He sends the link to Endeavour’s official blog because Shouto likes to be a petty brat sometimes.
“We are so adorable,” Deku declares. There are already thirty-three likes after only a few seconds of the picture being online.
Just then, a roar sounds from the kitchen, and Kacchan comes storming out. “You fuckers, how dare you post pictures without asking me!”
Shouto snaps a picture of his yelling face and posts it. “And thus, we add an element of irony to the caption of the previous picture,” he says blandly. Shouto clearly has no survival instinct.
“Fuck both of you damn shitrags!” Kacchan storms back into the kitchen. Whatever he’s making in there, it obviously requires his immediate attention. Cooking is Serious Business. “I’ll fucking kill you later!”
Kacchan doesn’t kill them later. It’s surprisingly merciful of him.
He does, however, complain the entire time they stake out the soon-to-be-destroyed building, and forces Shouto and Izuku into dozens of selfies while they do. They are all terrible. Kacchan makes horrible faces when he's aware that his picture is being taken.
“Okay,” Izuku hisses. “Let’s roll.”
“Who said you could give me orders, you fucker!” Kacchan hisses back.
“It’s the Deku Villain Office, not the Kacchan one,” Shouto points out dryly.
“Don’t fucking call me that!”
“But it’s your name!” Izuku insists, batting his eyelashes innocently. Shouto mirrors his expression. It looks vaguely disconcerting.
“It’s only the Deku Office because of that stupid bet which you fucking cheated on!” Kacchan continues, stomping ahead. “We’re not your damn sidekicks!”
“I don’t mind, actually,” Shouto remarks, earning himself a Bakugou Death Glare™.
Izuku laughs and sprints to Kacchan’s side. “You know we love you.”
“Fuck off. Job to do.”
“Sure, sure. Get in position, you two.” He pulls a bag filled with explosives out of his backpack. It had taken him the better part of the week to build them out of supplies nicked from a chemistry lab, a junkyard, and Kacchan’s sweat glands. “Be right back!”
He runs. It’s rare that he gets to let loose. One For All is something he can only use where nobody besides Kacchan and Shouto can see. After all, if anyone recognised it for what it is… it would garner attention none of them need. The All Might of this timeline has not chosen his successor yet.
Deku - he’s not Izuku right now - races through the building, planting the explosives. He and Kacchan had pored over the floorplans (acquired through not entirely legal means) for ages, calculating where to best place the bombs for maximum demolition with minimum risk of collateral damage. The task takes him just about two minutes with the level of speed he’s using. He’s had a decade of experience of using One For All, after all, even if he hadn’t been able to use it much during the later years.
He’s going to take special pleasure in destroying this particular building. So will Shouto and Kacchan. Especially Kacchan. Kacchan holds grudges like nobody else, and boy does he dislike the people making use of this structure.
Izuku blasts out of the building through a ceiling window. As soon as he does, mighty walls of ice creep up below, forming barriers around the soon-to-be destroyed structure. Above in the sky, Kacchan sets off an explosion, the sound of which resounds for miles and miles. The brilliant light has to be visible to the entire city.
And then the explosives go off, and the Noumu factory is history.
Deku plucks Kacchan out of the sky and Shouto up from the ground, racing to safety in full cowl. The heroes are going to be swarming in a matter of minutes, thanks to a traffic situation Shouto caused earlier they are already lurking nearby. The police will be there soon, too. No chance of the League of Villains vanishing the evidence of, if not their existence, then at least their activities.
Who knows what theories the heroes and police will come up with to explain this level of property damage. But then, Shouto's ice and Kacchan's explosions are as good as a calling card, and the three of them have been known as villains for a while now. Once the Noumu bodies are found among the rubble - clearly the work of another villain - they’ll probably label it the result of a territory fight with a rival group or something.
The point is, they’ll know that the Noumu exist way ahead of schedule. They’ll examine them, they’ll be forewarned, and forewarned is forearmed. To the three of them, that’s worth being hunted by heroes and police alike, and it’s definitely worth breaking dozens of laws. It's even worth being known as that which they've spent their adult lives fighting, before they came back to make things right.
It’s all for a good cause, after all.

oh boy it’s a Dr Who Meme
no one tagged me but both @orelseatlastsheunderstoodit and @resting-meme-face tagged everyone and i wanna do it plus i need a distraction to stop my intrusive Meat Dad thoughts soooo
Doctor you started with: technically 7, on PBS when i was very small. more accurately 10 - i watched most of the RTD era hugely out of order based on what DVDs the library had
Favourite Doctor: 12. and 6, but mainly 12. also 5 and 7. and
Favourite Companion: Bill, Clara, Ace, Evelyn, Jo, Mel, Turlough, all of them, they are all my favorite
Favourite Episode: "Curse of Fenric”, “City of Death”, “Heaven Sent”, “Caves of Androzani”, and “Amy’s Choice” are all very good do not make me choose it was painful to limit myself to just those ok i cannot narrow it down more
DW OTP: Dr/TARDIS obvs. with a side of Best Enemies, but part of the joy of that pairing is that it can’t ever work out in the long run, so
Favourite line/quote: “Let me guess. My theories appall you, my heresies outrage you, I never answer letters and you don't like my tie.” (i also really like “Ghost Light” a bunch.)
Favourite character that isn’t the Doctor or a companion: Missy for sure
BrOTP: twelvedole is bestdole
Favourite DW fic (if you have one): i’m tempted to give it to @resting-meme-face‘s “Tiny Twelve(TM)” but also everything else she’s written/throw a dart at the collected works of @freloux, @archaeologue , yonderdarling, etc etc
Favorite DW fanart/blog (if you have one): @veradune very probably, or fuck who’s the one who does the 8th Dr watercolors... @johannesviii yes that’s the one
If you could pick anyone to be the next Doctor, who would it be?: Ruth Negga. 500% percent. her performance as Tulip on Preacher, like, she nails all of what you want in the Dr, the cocky badassery and the steely resolve and the vulnerability and humor. and as a person, she just sort of has that Thing, you know, that someone playing the Dr should have
i will also accept Ruth Negga as Missy 2.0 tho because shit damn is she also good at playing chaotic neutral
If you could pick anyone to be the next companion who would it be? (Why?): Bill is not going anywhere DO YOU HEAR ME but two years from now: Michaela Coel please (if you haven’t watched Chewing Gum, you need to go watch Chewing Gum)
Favourite fan theory: dyou know i really can’t think of any? hmm. where do you even go for fan theories? please don’t say Gallifrey Base or Reddit
Other fandoms: i have an on-again-off-again fling with Marvel, i really need to catch up with Wynnona Earp, does Polygon Youtube count as a fandom, i will never be over The Devil Wears Prada, and i’m not like Fannish about it in terms of wanting to read fic or w/e but The Good Place is one of the best shows i’ve ever watched. ditto Legion. which is also technically Marvel, since i cannot escape. where’s my fuckin Young Avengers tv show Marvel where is it.
tagging: everyone, again. go forth and do this meme if doing this meem seems enjoyable to you

Awesome Con 2017- Day 1
Friday, Day 1: I woke up about an hour later than usual and had a leisurely but efficient breakfast before heading off to the Metro. I began reading Pack Animals (Torchwood #7) by Peter Anghelides on the long ride to the Library of Congress. While walking from the metro station to the LOC building, I passed two women around my age taking photos of a group of people walking across the street, escorted by the police. I have been watching news nonstop for the past two weeks, but I didn’t recognize anyone in the group (and I’ve been watching a lot of news). Looked like it might have been a representative and her congressional aides, but I’ve no clue. Anyway, I got to the Thomas Jefferson Library of Congress Building a little before 11.
The Library of Congress put together a really neat pop-up exhibit only available for a few days, called Library of Awesome. It was filled with parts of the LOC collection, grouped by themes. It was a great reminder that the LOC preserves these parts of culture that are important to fans. The people behind me as we went through the different exhibit rooms were in the most AMAZING Wonder Woman and Black Panther outfits ever. There was also a brave young man in an amazing Fantastic Four outfit. There were so many great comics on display, I couldn’t begin to list them all. But I did take photos of some of my favorites. In one room they had clips from TV shows playing and I walked in just as Buffy was sacrificing herself (feels!), following by a clip of Doctor Who with the Tenth Doctor. It was a surreal to be standing in the largest library in the entire world, watching Buffy and Doctor Who and looking at first appearances of comic book characters in print! There was also a neat letter from Gene Roddenbery to Carl Sagan.
Milestone issues including X-Men #1 from 1963, Fantastic Four #1 from 1961, and Watchmen #1 from 1986   First appearances of Batwoman and Dick Grayson aka Robin! Kyle Jinadu & Northstar get married! Buffy on screen, popular recent media series on display Ralph Ellison collection lends its room to this exhibit Library shop even had some geeky things for purchase… including some March graphic novels
After fully enjoying the exhibit, I went out in search of food. Google said there was a Subway in a nearby building. So I headed to the James Madison Library of Congress Building. I found my way up to the cafeteria on the 6th floor. I wasn’t entirely sure I should be there, among the congressional aides and LOC staff. But the security guard seemed to have no problem with it and a very nice woman in the elevator who worked in the building gave me exact directions there. The view was wonderful, and the sushi was delicious. I read while I ate. I got a little lost trying to find my way back to the elevator, but I made it in the end. Then I headed back to the Metro to get to the Convention Center.
It was strange being back in the Convention Center only a few months after #AWP17. It was all arranged differently–our registration hall had been turned into a cool, dark, moody video gaming center! And our bookfair space was where I knew I needed to head for Awesome Con registration. I already had my badge, so I just picked up a program and headed down three floors to the exhibit hall. I had one mission for Friday: find Andrew Aydin and have him sign my copy of March. But when I got to Q1 in the Artist’s Alley, there was a woman selling lovely jewelry in his space instead. Confused, I checked the program and the signs; no changes there. I ran into a friend and chatted for a bit. Then I checked social media; apparently Mr. Aydin was not going to be able to attend due to a personal matter. Well, darn! But these things happen. Hope his family’s okay.
So I found myself with a few hours of free time before the first panel I wanted to attend. I wandered around the exhibit hall, sticking mostly to the Artist’s Alley and spending much of that time in Pride Alley, which was new to the con this year. It was a nice little LGBTQ+-friendly space with all sorts of things I wanted to buy. I ended up buying way too much fanart and a graphic novel that is just my kind of thing that I can’t wait to read. I stumbled upon Karen Hallion’s exhibit space and bought a few postcards; it was wonderful to meet her and be able to tell her how fantastic her art is, because I’ve loved it for years and have some of it on t-shirts. I also bought an Outlander book necklace with a dragonfly and a Celtic charm on it. I have ZERO free wall space at home, yet I bought at least 10 prints for myself (and a few as gifts). I even bought an original art piece (done by an artist in from South Africa) that was creative and adorable and unintentionally sexy; I NEVER see my favorite kink portrayed in art, let alone fanart, so I absolutely had to buy it. #NoRegrets!
I had some tough choices to make as far as panels. I ended up choosing so that I’d get a good variety and pack in as many as possible (lots of panel times overlapped) while still hitting the evening Stucky one I knew I definitely wanted to attend.
3:30 PM-4:15 PM Nerdiquette/Anerdomy: Geekdom in Theory & Practice A nice way to start out the con, talking about geek culture. We began with Felicia Day’s definition of a geek as someone who dares to love something unconventional and moved on to topics like marketing’s role, the nerd culture stigma, the differences between sports fans and the sorts of fans we are, and if it stops being a subculture if it gets too big. The moderator kept diving into much more critical analysis of it all, including ways of testing geekdom’s coherence. I didn’t follow every philosophical reference he was throwing out there, but I enjoyed it anyway. I found the discussion regarding reactionary exclusionism to be especially interesting, as I’d not considered the idea of geeks feeling the need to covet and protect what we are passionate about and keep it as our own because we were excluded/outsiders.
4:30 PM -5:15 PM YA Literature Today I wish I’d done more prep, because I had two of the presenting authors’ books at home and didn’t bring them! Panelists discussed a lot about the things they like about writing YA (really interesting characters with really interesting problems, can work in any genre, we have all been teenagers but we still wonder who we are) and how to increase diversity in books and creators of books. The best part: they shared info about their own works and shared book recommendations. The worst part: so many good recommendations! I feel like I need to quit my job and just read YA full-time now. For recs & notes from this panel, see my book blog.
5:30 PM-6:15 PM Following Your Bliss: How the Stories We Love Can Help Us Succeed This wasn’t exactly what I’d been looking for. Attending this felt a little like listening to a motivational speaker. Using himself as a case study and tapping heavily into Joeseph Conrad’s “Hero’s Journey,” Russell Walks attempted to inspire us to follow our bliss to find success. “Storytelling is more than just guns and bullets. It’s what we have in here,” he told us, patting his chest above his heart. I was hoping for useful, specific tips rather than inspirational sayings. But I do like the concept that we’re all on our own hero’s journeys and our friends are our goofy, supporting characters. And I can’t disagree with things like “Tell yourself this is what you’re meant to do and don’t give up!”
Afterward, I was going to stick around in the room to attend Whose Roll is it Anyway? (a sort of interactive RPG where the audience controlled the twists and turns instead of the DM), but that was cancelled. This made me shuffle my slots around a bit again. I ended up being able to snag a seat in room 144BC and staying put there for the next three panels! That was both convenient and due to the fact that that room’s programming all aligned with my interests.
6:00 PM-6:45 PM Full Spectrum: Why color in comics matters This panel had a nice balance of identifying current problems and looking at current trends/solutions. I liked the observations that, throughout history, most trendsetters in the comic industry have been indie. I also loved the helpful tip of don’t just yell when there’s something bad, start yelling about the stuff you like! Other discussion topics include: recent reaction to Marvel news (putting out Black Panther trailer then cancelling Black Panther: World Of Wakanda), the difference between making a cast diverse organically and changing characters (reskinning) to make them diverse, how the binging culture changes the way we consume comics (monthly issues vs. TPBs), and how Check Please is an awesome fan-interaction model (it is!). I also loved this comment from one of the panelists (slightly paraphrased because I was writing so quickly) “Lately, people over-complicate things. Just write human beings. Give everyone a chance and diversity automatically comes about.”
7:00 PM-7:45 PM Stop Queerbaiting, It’s Time to Be Brave One of my friends magically appeared beside me just as the panel was about to start, which was a lovely surprise. Another lovely surprise was the panel starting out with a mention of one of my favorite pairings: Wolfcrawler! The panelists were brilliant, passionate, and prepared. But they were also largely preaching to the choir. Sure, an explanation of queerbaiting was a great place to start, and explaining in detail why it’s hurtful, not brave, and insulting was important. But the majority of the presentation consisted of examples and explanations of why it’s horrible. At the very end they did manage to squeeze in a little bit about what we can do (which was mostly, consume the content of the people doing it right). So, by the end of the panel, I mostly felt frustrated and mad at some of those content creators who do this to us.
A few things I wrote down include: are the creators/producers really blind to what they’re doing?, they might think they’re doing something nice for us but they’re not, you shouldn’t have the freedom to jerk us around, we need real bravery from our allies, we deserve better, we’re desperate to see ourselves represented as a living main character, makes being gay into a joke, makes gay into a gimmick, there are no repercussions, you can’t be what you can’t see, Netflix and Chill could be Netflix and Educate. My three favorite quotes from the panel were:
“Prancing is very intimidating to the straights”
Regarding fandoms that have “invisible queers” (creators say that there are totally some queer characters in the world/universe, we just haven’t seen them yet) “SHOW US! Specifically I’m talking to J.J. Abrams about the cute one in the jacket and the cute one that gave him the jacket.”
“Albus Dumbledore is the very definition of a peekaboo queer.”
8:00 PM-8:45 PM Not Without You: Discussions and Reading from the Stucky Anthology This was easily my favorite part of the whole day. First, there was a great conversation about what makes Steve/Bucky so appealing and how each of the panelists fell in love with the pairing. It was interesting to hear that so many of them came to it because of Bucky. Second, panelists that came from all over the world specifically to be on the panel. Third, hearing slash fanfic read out loud by the writers themselves at a general con was amazing. Fourth, amazing Bucky and Cap cosplayers sitting in the front row (sorry, I don’t mean to objectify you, but you were sweet and really helped set the mood for those of us seated behind you). Also, someone mentioned a His Dark Materials AU with Stucky that I now I have to track down. I was able to buy a copy of the absolutely beautiful anthology at the end of the panel. I really wanted to stick around and have all the writers autograph it, but I knew that would take a long time and there was kind of a jumble as we reconvened in the hallway. So I ended up just heading to the next panel.
9:00 PM-9:45 PM Trekoff LIVE! -The NSFW Star Trek Comedy Show!/>I was a few minutes late, but I don’t think I missed much. This is only my second time attending a live taping of a podcast at a con, and this one was much more lively than the first. The game we played as a group was to figure out how to staff a ship of the most fuckable Star Trek villains. The hosts took us through every entry in the Star Trek franchise, pulling up both well-known and obscure villains and having the audience choose between two at a time to determine who was more fuckable. Some were easy choices and others were more difficult. There were also some pretty convincing creative arguments for and against some of the characters. I was surprised to find characters like the Borg Queen and Evil!Hoshi beating a lot of others. I was surprised characters like Q and the three-some of Kor, Koloth, and Kang didn’t go further. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Khan made it pretty far but didn’t ultimately win! Who won? I can’t even remember. You’ll have to track down the episode!
I headed home after a long, tiring day and made more progress on my book. When I had to switch trains, it took almost half an hour for the right color train to arrive. So I did get a lot read but I didn’t get home until nearly midnight (at which point I still had a load of laundry to do before bed).
