the issue on the table: June 21st is the birthday of both Ouma Kokichi and Venti (as someone actually had to point out to me)

June 21st is also the first day of summer; the solstice. The longest day of the year.

For Venti, this means many things. Of course, Venti is the god of wind who terraformed his land to be a place of sunshine and calm days. He specifically sculpted it so that his people could live well off the land as long as they were living in his domain; this is why Mondstadt is the gentle land of wine. We also know (from Vind, the storm watcher nun who guards that one tower out on a cliff in the middle of nowhere) that Mondstadt does not experience horrible storms. Rains, sure, but not storms. This is Venti’s doing; as long as the Lord of the Winds demands it, he will not allow his people to suffer.

When he ascended to the position of Mond’s primary deity, he literally brought the people of Mond spring and summer from the endless winter from which they had fought so desperately hard to escape. Of course Venti’s birthday is the first day of summer.

Now for Kokichi. In the interest of taking entirely different meanings from this… Kokichi is a *child*. He talks a lot earlier on about the value of innocence and acting like a kid while you can, and what is summer associated with except the break that so many children desperately wait for?

[edit to add: Kokichi is exactly this!! They are all locked inside the academy!!! They are all stuck in school and they’re unable to get out until Kokichi (the beginning of summer) ENABLES them to do so!!!]

Kokichi is also someone who endures, someone who plays the long game. For that, the longest day of summer is super fitting; he after all is the one best able to make it through.
