After scrolling through the tag for a while and seeing everyone go into a state of panic because of the Noah and Millie interview, I wanted to give some thoughts. This is more or less an incoherent rant, you’ve been warned. Just as a side note I’m not trying to start an argument with anyone online so if you decide to be hostile I’ll block you bbg. I will not be addressing the article but the unlabeled Will discourse that has sparked because of it. Anyways.

I don’t understand what’s wrong with Will being unlabeled. Like they way some of you are framing it seems homophobic. It sounds like you’re saying that unlabeled people aren’t queer. Which they most definitely are and if you think otherwise why is that? The whole modern queer movement is about rejecting heteronormativity, and labels are a part of that.

Of course the 80s gay liberation movement was different form the one today. But at its core it strove to abolish gender norms and the nuclear family. Gay and Lesbian were terms that people used then as a form of their own liberation and a way to distance themselves from heteronormativity. So would Will being unlabeled really make sense? (the answer is yes).

*disclaimer, you can headcanon Will’s sexuality however you want. It still has not been confirmed only heavily coded. All we know is that he is some sort of queer.

I think it makes a lot of sense for Will to be unlabeled looking into how his character is written. He’s been the subject of homophobic bullying for his entire life. Even his dad called him gay. So it’s makes sense that the terms gay, queer, fairy etc would trigger unwanted memories and trauma. I think it makes more sense for someone like Mike to use the label gay (I don’t think he'd use the term bi since there was a lot of biphobia back then but feel free to debate that, respectfully of course).

Robin is an unlabeled character yet I haven’t seen any discourse about that. Would you like for her to be confirmed lesbian. All we know is that she likes women and not men. So why can’t that be the same for Will. We know he likes Mike and we can be pretty sure he doesn’t like women at all. That’s all we really need to know… sorta. That argument is constantly used by straight people, “why does it matter?” It matters because we need confirmation a character is queer and in passed media we’ve only gotten heavily queer characters. Ones that never got into relationships and were only queercoded or had offhand mentions like “oh yeah I’m living with my roommate” or “I’m not interested in dating a girl/boy right now.”

For the older queer people in the fandom, in your head what would it be like for them to keep Will unlabeled. Would it be similar to Robin or something like what I just stated in the previous paragraph?

But that’s not really what the duffer brothers would be doing (if byler is canon which it will be, just has not been confirmed yet). If Mike and Will end up together and explicitly say they’re a couple/dating then they aren’t really running from confirming the characters as queer. They are telling their audience outright that they love each other. They don’t need Will to say he's gay in order for their relationship to be valid.

In my humble opinion I think if they had Will have a coming out scene it'd feel forced. 1. Because coming out is pretty heteronormative and a way for cishet people to separate queer people from them. Queer people shouldn’t need to declare their truth just like straight people. All the power to you if you want to come out, it’s your decision of course that’s just how I see it. 2. The duffers shouldn’t have to handhold their audience in order to get across that Will is gay. If he’s in a relationship with Mike then it’s pretty obvious. Yes there are slimy incel Elon Musk stans who will debate it on Reddit but like so what. They are a small portion of the audience and for the most part everyone will understand how Will feels.

I think the only person it makes sense for Will to explicitly come out to would be Mike. I think Will knows Mike would need concrete confirmation and reassurance that Will is gay and has feelings for him. As for everyone else I don’t think Will would want to come out to everyone else in the party. I don’t even think he'd come out to his mom and Jonathan, I think he'd just be open if he was dating Mike.

I know one argument is that not confirming Will as gay is them being afraid to say it. But are they afraid to said it if they’ve shown homophobia and that whole Justin/Erica interaction? /gen.

I mentioned earlier how I think it makes more sense for Mike to call himself explicitly gay. He hasn’t been bullied the way Will has. He’s spent most of his life not knowing the feelings he has deep down for his friend, all he knows is that they aren’t normal. Mike identifying as gay could be comforting to him given his circumstances as supposed to Will who has bad memories surrounding those labels. I can imagine Mike saying to Nancy or his mom “I’m gay” way more than I can Will.

Tldr; I think Will is gay as fuck but they don’t have to say it, and for all u bylers worrying about the article, don’t pay too much attention to it. All the evidence trumps it and I think we should just live laugh Byler

Also LET HER BE FEMININE but also kick utter ass, my god!!! Femininity should not be synonymous with being weak, y’all! ALSO DEMETRI, like yes, he likes to complain and occasionally run his mouth, but guess what else he likes to do??? Never give up on the love of his life his best friend Eli Moskowitz and refuse to lose faith in him no matter how much of a little shit he’s become, and I for one think that’s very badass of him. Also the way he takes care of Eli pre-Cobra Kai in his own snarky bastard way makes me absolutely Weak and needs more appreciation. Like the dude has charisma and COULD have probably made other friends and left Eli behind if he wanted, but did he??? Among the adults, Daniel/Amanda!!! Like maybe I just don’t watch that much tv, but it seems kinda rare to me to see a happily married hetero couple, and it’s just nice to see a married couple who genuinely love each other and where there’s not like...lingering resentment or some shit. I feel like this ship gets overshadowed by Lawrusso a lot (which like--okay, fair!!! Daniel and Johnny do have a ridiculous amount of chemistry, and the gay undertones are undeniable, so I get it), and it makes me kinda sad. I do love Lawrusso, but I don’t like when Amanda has to get her heart broke for it to happen, you feel? Among the kids, honestly YasMoon. Like I really love the idea of Yasmine trying to better herself because of Moon’s influence on her and because Moon like...inspires her to be a better person, I guess? With their pretty strong friendship, it just makes more sense to me for Yasmine to get a redemption arc through Moon than through Demetri. ALSO girls DO often pull the whole “mean girl” shtick to cover up being closeted lesbians, and Moon IS canonically bi, so it could work!!! I just think this one could be a really interesting Friends to Lovers take, and could make a really nice coming-out arc for Yas. And MoonPiper too, honestly!!! Like they only got 5 seconds of screentime so I understand WHY it’s underrated, but I still love what we DID get and loved that there was a canon gay ship (even if only for 1 scene lmao). I’m really excited to potentially see more of them in Season 4!!! Please, I’m begging!!!

Allow me to elaborate: ~The Gang goes to LA on vacation during the height of the Karate Dojo Wars. They literally can get barely anything done without all these goddamn karate-fighting teenagers getting in the way. ~They are all very annoyed by this. Even the most obscure of tourist attractions is eventually intercepted by karate fights. ~Mac tries to join Cobra Kai because he sees all this karate fighting on, and wants to unquestionably prove both his badassery and masculinity. Both Johnny and Kreese are like “Wtf are you doing here? Aren’t you like 30?” ~Mac gets a planet-sized crush on Johnny after all of 5 minutes and endlessly gushes to the gang about him. The gang mercilessly roast him about this and about how much of a pathetic loser with his life together in no way whatsoever Johnny sounds like. They proceed to have exactly 0 self awareness about this. ~The Waitress is in town visiting family or something, and Charlie is stalking her, as per usual. However, every time he’s about to go up and talk to her, a pack of battling Miyagi-Dos and Cobra Kais throwing punches and kicks everywhere blocks his path. One times, Mac is among one of these packs and Charlie is like “???? He didn’t get kicked out of that teen karate dojo yet???” ~Seeing how much the Kids These Days seem to like fighting, Charlie drops by a local high school to try and sell Fight Milk to the kids doing karate. Only Kyler and Brucks buy into it, and subsequently get the entire West Valley High wrestling team sick. Charlie is inevitably arrested, as Counselor Blatt thinks he’s selling the kids drugs. ~Dennis makes a plan to have sex with every hot chick he can in Los Angeles. He meets Ali on a dating app post-divorce, and inevitably tries to bang her. It doesn’t work. ~Frank crashes the rental car, and inevitably the gang ends up at one of Daniel’s dealerships. Dee quickly takes a liking to Daniel and is like “Watch, assholes--Imma homewreck this guy’s marriage.” She starts frequenting the dealerships to attempt to flirt with Daniel, until one day she walks in on him having sex with Johnny in a back room and she’s like “Is that the guy from Mac’s goddamn dojo?!?!” ~Dennis, of course, tries to sleep with Amanda. Amanda is not having it, and rebukes him in the most snarky, Amanda-esque way possible. Dennis is just like “Oh not AGAIN--the women in this goddamn diva city have too high of standards!” ~Later on, the gang is at the beach and Dennis spots the blonde lady he went out on an ill-fate date with, and decides to give it another shot--that is, until he sees her go up and kiss another woman and he’s like “IS THAT THE LADY FROM THE CAR DEALERSHIP??? STUPID-KARATE-KICK-COMMERCIAL’S WIFE?!? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.” ~Dee complains to Dennis about her lack of luck getting laid, and Dennis is just like “Oh come ON, is everyone in Los Angeles gay???” Smash cut to Hawk and Demetri having sex, Moon and Piper making out, Bert and Nate holding hands, Chris and Mitch doing oral, and Amanda, Ali, and Carmen having a threesome. ~Frank tries to scam Kreese into buying cheaply-made karate equipment for his dojo. The gang ends up having to leave LA because Kreese is quite literally plotting all of their murders.

Hey nonnie, sorry its taken me so long to reply but if you’re following me you know I’ve been travelling lately and have been more scatterbrained than usual. Not that I’m ever not scatterbrained, but its been just a little crazier than usual!

Now I wouldn’t go as far to say I hate Larries. After all their delusions can be pretty funny sometimes!

Joking aside, I don’t hate Larries, I love Larries, I’m a Larry, so I really hesitate to tarry the whole group with the same brush. However I do strongly agree with you that there are those who are complete hypocrites. Nothing annoys more more than when Larries ™ treat the other boys, other celebrities, their friends and even family as one more side character to the Larry Show.

In particular when Larries ™ flood comment sections asking or in some cases, ordering people to confirm rumors/the couple being together. The absolute fucking disrespect. Not just because they’re flooding comment sections in videos streams, tweets, what have you, that sometimes have nothing to do with the couple in question, but because its presumptuous and rude as fuck to think they’re owed a coming out- just because they’re fans of the boys.

Stop it. Thats fucking ugly as hell.

While I have no doubt all the boys will one day be out (as referenced by their continued efforts in fighting the closet. I don’t get the sense the boys will just stop at being freed from their contractual obligations). It should and will be on their own terms. Provided they’re not forcibly outed some other way.

Coming out is a deeply personal experience and no one, no one ever, has the right to out someone else. I’ll never not be absolutely furious at the Larries ™ who posted about having ‘receipts’ that would out the boys. Which… tbh weren’t receipts at all but thats a whole other story. I’m also still angry at the reactions after Liams Attitude spread that wouldn’t have been as bad if not for the entitled fandom that peddled ridiculous claims beforehand about Liam confirming Larry to be real.

I mean… What the actual fuck. Setting aside the fandom experience of the time, and boy was it an experience. What right would Liam have confirming Louis and Harry’s relationship? Biggest issue I still have with them is that the entitled behaviour hasn’t stopped. For some it seems like, Larry coming out is it for them. Which did a lot to fan the flames of the already rabid fanbase when Ziam got two articles confirming a Ziam kiss over the years and Larry got nada. Like that actually means anything).

Not to mention Larries ™ using the hetties and management tactics against the other parts of the fandom to silence them.

The sense of disconnect, entitlement and victimhood of some Larries ™ is absolutely ridiculous.

I’m not going to say its a surprise to me that so many in the Ziam fandom are POC, LGBT+, and Neurodivergent and any combination of those, but I am going to say I’ve read a lot of Larry fics that just have Het sex made gay. Those in the Ziam fandom just tend to look at facts in a different way than Larries do due to their life experiences. A interfaith, interracial, relationship where one or both partners fall under the Bi umbrella (not saying Louis or Harry can’t be or aren’t Bi+ but rumors, and the way the fandom markets them, puts them firmly in the gay category) looks very, very different than gay or straight relationship. Both looking from outside and being in one. There’s just different dynamics at play that aren’t often realized or understood by the gays and hets.

Its not a bad thing. All relationships are different. The issue is that theres a lot of biphobia/racism/religious prejudice etc that arises from people being unwilling to understand the inherent differences.

Taking myself for example, I’m bi, like, bi as hell, and I don’t understand how gays and hets only like one gender. I just don’t. Can’t wrap my head around it. If someone asks me to choose one gender over the others to prefer I can’t. Its so stressful. My brain goes into panic mode and it feels like I’m being torn apart. My sense of identity is shaken- its a shit feeling. I just can’t lie to myself like that. If other people feel the same well, its no wonder bi+ have such high rates of depression and suicide. Its not about choosing who to like, there is no choice, I just feel attraction to everyone. Aces, I get. Its similar to being the opposite of what I feel, or not feeling an attraction to someone I’m not interested in. Easy. Gays and hets? I’m completely lost on.

Completely, and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. But that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to try and understand where they’re coming from. Its alien to me, personally, but I’m not going to shut down the fact, that theres a fuck ton of people who only like one gender or try and make up reasons as to why they’re actually bi+

I digress, none of the boys fall neatly into the gay stereotypes, its just that parts of the Larry fandom have boxed Louis and Harry into certain roles to fit preconceived notions (likely do to them initially fitting in better with the white, sassy, somewhat effeminate twink thats been plastered all over Hollywood as their “LGBT+ representation” for years. Gag), they can understand better, and only look for proof to back up their theories but don’t look at things objectively.

They really need to get out more and make some LGBT+ friends that aren’t on the internet and talk to some gay elders. They need educating that’s not the often sanitized and insulting Hollywood version, that’s all I’m saying.

Some Larries ™ turned the boys into their fandom and fanfiction stereotypes when they’re so much more than that. The Sony leaks should have been enough to dissuade the fandom, and prove that the brand sold to the broader audience is just that- a brand, and yet… Niall only talks about food and golf and Ireland and is only allowed to be straight or ace. If he exists at all its just to be Capt Niall. Liams slow and dumb and depending on the day he’s either Capt Liam or a horrific abusive homophobe. Zayns just The Worst, a unstable drug addict, and the boys hate each other, and they should have kicked him out of the band sooner because he never wanted to be part of them anyway, etc.

It drives me absolutely around the bend some days. They’re real people who don’t owe anyone anything, especially not coming out.

Okay, I'll admit, I was a little...apprehensive when I first saw the thumbnail and title. Part of it's just me being a bitter Remus Stan, but also...okay, deep breaths, controversial opinion time, get ready:

I don't ship Prinxiety.

Like, at all. 

I can see the appeal, and these dorks were so very, VERY cute in this particular ep, but I was honestly turned off by the ship long ago due to how overwhelmingly popular it is and how some fans characterize these two and treat this relationship as if it's the only valid one, y'know, the works—slight tangent, but that's also why I don't ship Logicality or Remile. I honestly vibe much better with ships like Roceit or Analogical, y'know?

Cutting in for another brief tangent: I'm surprisingly okay with Demus/Dukeceit/Receit/Trashnoodle/Whatever-Their-Ship-Name-Is-Oh-God-Why-Do-They-Have-So-Many-Fucking-Names; maybe it's cause they haven't actually interacted in canon and the fan content gives me such good Gay Disney Villain content, idk man im weird—).

Still, their interactions were both hilarious and sweet and like I said, I see the appeal, it's just not my cup of tea. y'all Prinxiety fans got fucking FED and I'm happy for you nerds. Enjoy ze happy boys!

I guess another factor in my...low-key hesitance when I first saw what the ep was about is that...okay, get ready, another controversial opinion, le gasp: well, I'm not a big Virgil fan. In fact, at times, he swaps places with Patton as my least favorite sides—especially with some of his recent behavior in eps like DWIT (the "prohibit your breathing comment" really triggered me, for example). Sometimes, his attitude, especially around other sides like Roman or Janus, reminds me a little too much of my sister, who I don't have...a very good relationship with. Add to that how the more...intense side of the fandom has a disturbing tendency to turn him into the 'uwu precious woobie emo baby who can do no wrong' while unnecessarily villainizing other CERTAIN sides in the process, and...I think you all see where I'm going with this little rant 😅

However, upon actually watching the ep, he wasn't...that bad? I don't think? I enjoyed watching him be a flustered, disaster-y mess and genuinely excited at the end, his interactions with Roman were nice enough, and him literally pushing Thomas to make a move with Nico despite his obvious panic attack was a nice moment of genuine character development. I like seeing that, that's the good shit right there. And him being all flustered and shit, and smiling so much at the end of the vid was just...well, adorable. This man has no fucking right to be this cute, my god

Oh wow. I got fandom hate for something I don't even interact with all that often? Like, as in I sometimes will like a picture or something? Definitely not enough to call it something I stan. Wow, I'm just lost for words on why this was directed at me. Is it that I'm also into solarpunk? It is, isn't it? This ain't even zadr or shallura or insert 5 other ships I can come up with off the top of my head that I more actively support that have a fairly large anti community known for hunting even the lightest of shippers. This is a not uncommon ship in literally any circle I've ever run in or others in similar tropes. And I definitely have been mildly active in those other fandoms, and definitely not at all here. I've done some Jay/Tim pieces years ago at this point and that's it in pretty much all of the DC universe. So not sure why you are aghast from my trace amounts of PoisonQuinn which I didn’t even make.

But in no particular order: I'm a non-binary ace, and however much some of my fellow queers and other LGBT like to erase my identity, I'm not going to care if others identify as lesbian or bi (one of the most common interpretation for Harley I see normally). In fact I'll help them embrace it 95% of the time. I've had several of my D&D characters incidentally be LGBTQ (my favorite is bisexual because of a poor dice roll made into the roleplay for a better outcome), because exploring that is something at least mildly interesting. I'm generally considered some where on the socialist spectrum, as capitalism is good to an extent but everyone should be able to access basic needs first. But if you aren't big into understanding economic system differences I can see how you'd make that mistake, as I'm not even quite sure where I fall in it outside of not communism. I'm pretty against single leaders, even single groups being in charge, that results in minorities being destroyed one way or another, whether literal death or policies that kill their communities (or ability to form them). Don't even like the 2 party system the US uses for most purposes. And I am not going to deny being a feminist? I generally hope to be of the same vein as Liana Kerzner, not extremist but not not feminist. You know, keeping in mind there are things men can't do that they should be able to/biases against them, along with those against women. A lot of people who hold these beliefs have transitioned to other words as the extremists have changed some of the meaning. I'm called a demon/possessed by a devil because of my panic attacks so this isn't out of the ordinary for me. And in most forms of Christianity I'm bond for hell anyways since I don't believe in jesus/their singular Trinity God, so come up with something new. As for being a useful idiot, there is no good way to refute that, as we are all extremely influenced by the world around us, to the point we may not be conscious of. Am I unconsciously spreading those ideals? Maybe, but I hope talking (assuming we are talking and not yelling or whatever), like I love to do if given a chance, will let people see the nuance of the opinion, or make me think further on my opinions and change them. Because liking a single thing does not mean I agree with all the opinions that you've stereotyped into that. A single soundbyte does not a full person's opinion make. Even self-identified labels are a little murky if we aren't coming from the same understanding of what they mean.

I had to look up who that was just for context, because seriously I don't pay attention to the canon things unless I'm in a mood for it. I haven't watched a lick of the show that isn't just clips out of context. I wasn't aware they fully went this route in the show. This pairing has just been something in fandom for years, whether you knew it or not. But you probably should have been at least tangentially aware because I’m pretty sure they are married in Injustice 2 (maybe? When I said I don’t do much with canon shit I meant it. I only finished the first one, never played the second). In some sectors of the fandom sometimes form a triad with Selina (Catwoman) too, because the Gotham Sirens are a curious little band that have been around for decades.

Thanks for the opinion but I do not need to consider yours, except to tag appropriately, when we are talking about completely fictional adults. So you can be safer or keep out of things you don't enjoy. Also, indirect thanks for the suggestion on the next sketch I do.
