i actually think ppl dealing with religious trauma by having an edgy atheist phase is fine. I actually think maybe the kid who makes sorta cringey jokes at the expense of a cult they're trapped in should be allowed to do that. Yes I roll my eyes when I see people calling it "the book of moron" but I also remember being fourteen and seeing someone do that and how incredibly powerful it felt so I think maybe it being a bit cringe in retrospect is fine.

I just had the dumbest idea but I think it's funny: Do some centaurs grind down their teeth into different shapes as a body mod because they continually grow, like how humans dye and style hair? I imagine that would be wildly inefficient for eating but it could theoretically work if you were careful and I can definitely see it becoming a trend among teens to sharpen some of their teeth to look cool.

Eughhh...... maybe in the multi-clan cities with access to reliable, processed foods and utensils they're doin that.... If you get too wild with it, you would absolutely fuck up your ability to eat food, or risk dangerous abscesses...

Aesthetic teeth grinding I think would not be being teenage counterculture thing, but a social status signifier. Grinding down the teeth to be LESS pointy would ironically probably be the most common (and safest) version of this, particularly for social roles intended to be non-threatening, like mediators, entourage members, spiritual guides, and doctors. Another person in the asks inquired about tooth engraving, which strikes me as more likely than grinding teeth into wild pointy shapes.

of course, another amusing thought re: the role reversal but not the age reversal featured in the spirit bridge zuko au is that when Iroh sneaks into Ba Sing Se, he does so seperatly from Team Avatar. he is a very famous man there, and he does not want to draw undue attention to himself. zuko goes with him because he's worried about his nephew and also this way he doesn't have to deal with a joo dee.

(he should... probably do something about that? why haven't the spirits asked him to do anything about the dai li's brainwashing program yet. that feels like something they should have asked him to do something about.)

when they get to the ticket counter, iroh smiles broadly and introduces himself as mushi. he is traveling with his beloved nephew, li. zuko nearly chokes on his own spit. i'm sorry. i'm your what now? iroh just gives him a look. he doesn't mean any disrespect, uncle, but he does not think most people who are not aware of your... unusual circumstances would ever believe you are my uncle.

zuko gives him a long look before he goes. yeah. you're right. it doesn't make it any less weird.

When my cousin was a teenager, he went through a rebellious teenage phase... that consisted entirely of being a Yankees fan and wearing Yankees merchandise. Because he knew it would piss off his whole family, all of whom are Red Sox fans.

I have never watched more than 5 minutes of any given baseball game in my life and I sort of did this exact same thing. It must be hardwired in the rebellion center of the teenage brain around here.
