My Ranking of the Sohmas from Fruits Basket
Back in late May 2020, I began to watch the 2019 reboot of Fruits Basket (I first discovered it from my good friend @sweet-chinchilla), and it's become one of my favorite anime series EVER. At the end of September 2021, I was finally able to finish the series, and I loved EVERY MOMENT of it! I felt like to do a ranking of each of the Sohmas from least favorite to top favorite (I'll try to keep it brief because there are 14 CHARACTERS to discuss!)
Also, if you haven't read the original manga and/or seen the 2019 anime, there will be MAJOR SPOILERS ahead!
13. Kagura Sohma (my least favorite)
The first female cursed Sohma I was introduced to. As much as I liked Tia Ballard as her in the dub, I just did not care for Kagura. Sure, she eventually moved on from it, but it kinda annoyed me how she kept pursuing Kyo despite him being not all that interested in being her boyfriend. Also, I know she had good intentions to talk some sense into Tohru, but knowing how violent she gets, was it really necessary to SLAP HER?!
12. Hiro Sohma
There was a point where I hated him more than Kagura. I did not like how he was such a brat and jerk when we were first introduced to him, but slowly, I warmed up to him. His crush on Kisa is adorable, and him growing to become a responsible big brother was just too sweet.
11. Shigure AND Akito Sohma (they're pretty much tied in this position)
Shigure is someone I'd like to call a "Sly Dog". He's a bit of a scumbag, but he's well aware of it. He's also one of those characters that's either "lawful evil" or "true neutral". He provides a lot of comedy in the anime including him being just a smart-ass. Also, when he's not acting like a jerk/creep, he's a pretty decent guardian figure for Tohru.
As for Akito, she's a beautifully written antagonist/character in general, and she's definitely someone I pity. Sure, much of her actions are unforgivable, but I feel like she's not expecting everyone to forgive her that easily (or at all even). Also, Colleen Clinkenbeard's performance as her is nothing short of spectacular.
10. Ritsu Sohma
To be honest, he needed way more love! I know people found him annoying, but part of me relates with constantly saying "I'm sorry!" over the smallest of things. He's a gorgeous character that I feel like deserves better. He'd be higher if that were the case, and if not for some of these other characters.
9. Kureno Sohma
I didn't expect to like him that much, but I do! Part of it is that charm that comes with most characters Ian Sinclair voice in the dub (his performance in the s2 finale was especially amazing). He's just a sweet and kind man, and I can see why Uotani fell for him and also reminded her of Tohru. Only complaint I have is that I wished there was a flashback scene of him transforming before his curse broke. I would've loved to see his Zodiac form at least once.
8. Isuzu "Rin" Sohma
Another character I didn't expect to love. Rin is a very tragic character, and what she had to go through was devastating, but seeing her being able to heal was just as emotional. Brina Palencia was amazing as her and is easily my favorite role of hers.
7. Kyo Sohma
Yeah, he's a little lower, but I don't love him as much as the ones that follow. However, he's still a GREAT character, and deserves so much after meeting Tohru. Kyo would sometimes remind me of Bakugo, but he's also a true cat. Feisty, acts like they dislike people but has a real soft spot (especially towards one person). Also, this was my favorite role by Jerry Jewell.
6. Ayame Sohma
The Sassy Snake himself. Oh, how much I LOVE Ayame! Like Shigure, he provides a good portion of the humor to the anime. Chris Sabat's performance as him is mind-blowing but also amazing (since most of his well-known roles are tough guys). Ayame is just so extra, and I love it. Also, his love towards Mine is sweet and I kinda wished we got more moments between them.
5. Momiji Sohma
The boy who was possessed by my Zodiac animal, the Rabbit! I strongly prefer how he looked before his growth spurt, but Momiji is just a precious bunny boy. It is heartbreaking to see that he's suffered and feels sad, but he's just so pure and precious. I hope the one he fell in love with makes him feel so happy.
4. Hatsuharu Sohma
This is who I like to call the "Bi Himbo Ox". Haru was instantly one of my favorites because he just cracks me up, he's super handsome (the studio behind the 2019 reboot really just made everyone look pretty), and also Justin Cook's performance as him. As much as I adore Kirishima, Justin showed off and executed the range of Haru's dumb, sweet, loyal, seductive, and harsh personality. Also, his love for Rin is adorable and him and Yuki is definitely one of my favorite crack ships.
3. Kisa Sohma
The precious tiger cub. I adore this sweet little girl so much, and how she looks up to Tohru like an older sister is so adorable! She's a precious angel that deserves SO MUCH LOVE. And I ALWAYS smile whenever I see her on-screen. And speaking of that last part...
2. Hatori Sohma
I don't know what it is, but upon first introduction, I've been drawn to him and he quickly became a favorite. There's just something so comforting about Hatori, from his kind and no-nonsense personality, prettiness (as mentioned, the 2019 anime animators make everyone look pretty), and his voice (all thanks to Kent Williams' performance). Hatori also has some of his moments of being a little silly, but it's due to the chaos he deals with whenever he's around Shigure and/or Ayame. Out of the Three Musketeers, he's my favorite.
1. Yuki Sohma
He was an INSTANT favorite of not only the Sohmas, but of the entire series, and seeing him grow makes me so happy! I also love how kind and gentle he is, and lemme tell you. This was the first anime I've seen after My Hero Academia, so hearing Eric Vale as Yuki was WILD (same can be said about Jerry as Kyo), because I was used to his creepy and chilling performance as Tomura Shigaraki. But hearing him as Yuki was amazing and it made me appreciate him as a voice actor. SO FREAKING TALENTED. If you wanna know how much I love Yuki, I have his Funko Pop! figure, which captures his beautiful likeness well.

Little Lies, Part Five
Warning a little smutty (not full on smut yet you animals) is in this part
————
The car ride back to my apartment was not as uncomfortable as I thought it would have been. We actually talked to one another. He filled me in on his career, and what he’s been doing since we graduated. When we got the apartment I let him inside, and he looked around for a little bit. Till he found the manuscript. We stopped speaking at that point, as he flipped through the pages. After an hour or two, and no words he set down the pages.
“If you want to keep reading the rest later, you can take that home?” I offered and he just continued to look at me. Standing up from his side of the table. He came behind me, and leaned down into my ear.
“You still remember those intimate moments so vividly?” He whispered in my ear, and I felt myself start blushing furiously. That was the part he got to?
“Well, uh,” I whispered, trying to ignore his breath fanning over my ear, “How could I forget when they’re one of the few intimate moments I have?”
We both froze at my words. Todoroki let out a low chuckle, his hands making their way to my shoulders. He was rubbing them gently, his grip a little firm.
“Don’t tell me I am the last one who touched you?” Todoroki’s voice sounded a little too full of himself for my liking, so I got the idea to knock him back down to size.
“Actually, Kaminari was,” I smirked, and his hands stopped moving. Just a firm grip was left on my shoulders.
“Denki Kaminari?” His voice was low, almost a growl. It was no secret the two hated each other after everything that happened. They continued this feud for the rest of that last year of school. Kaminari always doing his best to get under Todoroki’s skin. Todoroki always falling for it, and trying to fight him. I’m pretty sure they had actually gotten into a physical fight at one point.
“Yeah, we have a deal that when we are both single, we can use each other whatever way we see fit,” My voice was taunting him. His grip on shoulders got a little tighter with my words.
“Does he make you feel good?” He growled, his hands beginning to trail down the front of me. His hands hesitating right above my breasts. I knew my next few words would determine how this would go.
“Fantastic,” I answered back. My chair was yanked back, and turned to face him. He knelt down in front of me, so we were at eye level with one another. Looking over my face a few times, he was smirking, and his eyes were darker than I had seen before.
He dragged his hands up my bare thighs, gently. I shivered a little bit at his touch, instantly regretting not changing out of my skirt. He used his hands to spread my thighs apart. He let out a guttural sound from his throat as he pushed the skirt up a little bit, revealing the lace underwear I had been wearing.
“Were you waiting for Kaminari with these?” He whispered, laying his head against my thigh. He used his finger to trace my upper thigh, smirking as the goosebumps appeared on my skin.
“N-no,” My voice stuttered as his finger lightly danced over my covered folds, “They don’t give me panty lines,”
“It would be better if you just didn’t wear any,” Todoroki let out a small laugh, before biting the inside of my thigh lightly. I bit the inside of my cheek to stop a moan from coming out of my mouth, clearly it wasn’t enough considering he still sat up to look at me. Shaking his head he just laughed again.
“Honestly (Y/n) you don’t have a good poker face, and you are practically soaked through your underwear right now,” Todoroki grinned, leaning down into my face again, “Just say the words and we can fix this little problem for you pretty girl,”
I looked over his face, taking in everything about him. The last thing I wanted was to give him the satisfaction of giving in. I knew that his smug look would only get worse. I also knew that getting myself off wasn’t going to cut it tonight. Did it count as hooking up with your ex if he was never officially your boyfriend?
“You’re thinking too much,” Todoroki sighed, standing up straight. He started walking towards the door. I stood up from the chair and walked over to him.
“There you go, giving up again,” I grabbed his shirt, pulling him down into a kiss. Todoroki was hesitant at first but quickly began using more force. He had pushed me up against the edge of the couch, taking my face into his hands as he kissed me deeper. When he pulled back, a small line of spit came with him. He groaned yet again.
“Remind me to thank Kaminari for teaching you how to kiss like this,” Todoroki smirked before attaching his mouth to my neck, nipping and sucking at every part of my skin he could reach.
“He taught me a lot of other things too,” I teased, and he just let out a disappointed noise. Before pushing me backwards, I was now laying down on the couch. Todoroki watched as I adjusted myself and watched as he stripped down in front of me, “What’s the matter Todoroki, skipping the role play already?”
“Did Kaminari need foreplay to get you off?” Todoroki challenged, and I just blushed furiously. A little angry that his rebuttal was correct. Kaminari was one of my best friends now, and the foreplay with him was always great, the sex in general though wasn’t as spectacular. Still though something about the way he was acting just wasn’t settling right with me.
“Do you think that’s what we’re doing, jumping straight into sex?” I laughed, as he paused taking off his belt. He looked at me with confused eyes, trying to read my face.
“Is that not what’s happening here?” Todoroki scoffed, his voice filled with nothing but arrogance.
“You know, I don’t think it is now,” I shot back, standing up from the couch and adjusting my clothes.
“What’s the problem?” Todoroki slid his shirt back over his head, staring at me. I looked back at him, feeling a bit of anger build in my stomach.
“I’m not just going to fuck you on my couch like some random ass hookup, like we don’t know each other?” I walked over to the kitchen, getting down a cup for water.
“To be fair we don’t exactly know each other anymore (Y/n),” Todoroki’s voice was harsh, and it made me freeze in my tracks. That little out of anger ignited into full on rage at the snide remark.
“And who’s fault is that?” I slammed the cup down, turning to face him again, “Who was the one who just let me get in that car that day, and never once tried to explain themselves?”
“Wait seriously, you’re angry I didn’t explain myself?” Todoroki looked amused, “You’re so damn stubborn you wouldn’t have let me explain, and when I did you pushed me away?”
“You know what no,” My voice was still in a yell, “I wasn’t expecting you to drop the love bomb on me?”
“Oh fucking forgive me for falling in love with you,” Todoroki walked over to grab his coat.
“Read the last page.” I demanded, pointing to the manuscript that was on the table in front of him, “Read the last fucking sentence on that page,”
Todoroki looked at me, and looked down at the manuscript before picking it up and flipping to back of it. His eyes scanned over the page, before widening a little bit. It looked as if guilt was starting to wash over his face.
“Out loud.” I demanded again, and he just looked up at me. Before looking back down to the page again and taking in a deep breath.
“So there she stood, against his locker, waiting for an explanation that would never come,” Todoroki whispered, “When were you?”
“The last day of school, I slipped a note telling you to meet me there before graduation, explaining that I wanted to hear you out and if you wanted to explain yourself, that we could make it work,” I lowered my tone, “You never showed though, just left me waiting for you,”
“Touya pulled me out of school early that day,” Todoroki sighed, setting the book down, “We were going to visit Mom together,”
The tension in the room slowly faded away. We both looked back and forth at each other.
“So you never got the note?”
“No, I never got the note.”
He stared at me for a second. Before nodding, and rubbing his hand over his face. He walked out of the apartment without another word. As the door slammed I felt the tears start streaming out of my eyes. Watching my last chance to say what I needed to say walk out the door again. I pulled my phone out, wiping the tears off my face. I clicked the first contact that came to mind.
“Hey this is so random, but do you uh think you could come over?”
—-Todoroki pov—-
I let out a groan and threw myself down on Touya’s couch. Both he and Keigo stuck their heads out from the dining room. I could feel their eyes burning in on me. Soon enough they were standing over me, both of them glancing from one another to each other.
“You smell like a bar and (Y/N)‘s perfume?” Hawks whispered, as if I was delicate. Which earned him weird looks from both me and Touya.
“Do I even want to know why you know that?” Touya laughed, staring at his soon to be husband like he had grown five heads. Honestly I was giving him the same look.
“Well I work with her and I you know, smell her a lot?” Hawks looked flustered, knowing there was no way to word it correctly, “Okay, you know what? I am going to leave you two to brother things out,”
Hawks flipped us both off, and gave Touya a kiss before walking away. Touya looked at me, and awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. He moved my feet, more like smacked them out of his way. He sat down where my feet once were, and I sat up on the opposite end of the couch.
“So, little Sho, my brother, the baby of the-”
“If I tell you what happened will you quit?” I groaned, looking over at him. He laughed a little, nodding his head.
“Remember the day we decided to mend our relationship? The first day we actually hung out together before going to see mom?” I looked down at my hands.
“Yeah, because you flipped me off when I called you sweetie and told you that you forgot your lunch?” Touya snorted at the memory.
“She left a note for me that day, in my locker, after shooting me down, telling me to meet her back there after the graduation ceremony,” I looked over at Touya, who let out a low whistle.
“After I got you early?” He sighed, and I nodded, “Shit, I’m sorry Shoto,”
“Don’t be, I’ll deny it if you repeat it, but I don’t regret hanging out with you that day, it restarted our relationship,” I looked over at my brother who was smirking, “But now she thinks I just left her standing there, rejecting her for rejecting me,”
“Okay I am going to tell you a fun story,” Touya interrupted, “You know I punched bird guy in the face once?”
“What?” I looked at him like he was insane.
“Yeah, you see he was a stubborn man, and after my first boyfriend and the rejection from our dear old father, I was an absolute asshole,” Touya looked over at the picture of the two of them, “But Keigo saw the better side of me, even when I couldn’t see it in my self,”
“Where are you going with this? Other than confirming you used to be a dick?” I questioned, and earned a middle finger from him.
“You were an asshole back then, but this girl writes about you as if you were anything but that, even when you hurt her she still wrote you out to be this damaged boy, who was a human somewhere in there,”
“Hm, I didn’t really catch that, I got a little distracted,” My comment earned a punch in the arm from my older brother, who was glaring at me.
“Trust me I had to read all about your little couch encounter,” Touya sighed, “That’s not the point Shoto, just talk to the girl, and actually talk to her not try and fuck her you idiot,”
“How do you know I-”
“You have the face of a man who was given the good ole blue balls, and a cute little hickey right there,” Touya flicked it as he stood up. Walking towards the hallway to go to his shared bedroom.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and scrolled to her contact. I hesitated for a second before finally hitting the call button. This was the defining moment.

Caught in the Act: You and I (Bakugou x Reader)
Tip Jar ☕- Not expected but always appreciated💞
Hiiii bbys
Back by popular demand: The Sequel to Caught in the Act!
This story shifts perspective like a mother fucker so take some pepto-bismal and enjoy the ride.
PS: You and I both have the same name
HnM 💕
What… just happened? You turned back around to face the door and placed your hand on the knob. You let it sit for a moment before you slowly retracted it, cursing under your breath. His soft, sad smile replayed in your mind over and over again as you stared at the handle—each run through of the scene causing you to fall deeper into uncertainty.
You had never seen him smile like that before. You had, of course, recently been exposed to a new, vulnerable side of him—raging and begging like a caged animal as you struggled to separate yourself from him, yet you had never seen him accept his defeat so solemnly. Actually, you had never seen him accept defeat in general.
Your face settled into a hard expression.
Was he really going to be okay? Did he finally crack after everything? Maybe you should turn back around, just to make—
“Y/N!”
You jumped at the sudden voice before a set of familiar, firm hands were pat down on your shoulders, “Sorry! I am so sorry!” It was only Kirishima. You relaxed from your tense stance as he continued, “I didn’t know Bakugou had left the hospital, I swear! I would have never sent you here!” You whipped your head toward Kirishima’s frantic expression as he profusely apologized, clasping his hands together and praying for your forgiveness. His sudden appearance sent a jolt of realization into your being: Katsuki cheated on you—that’s why you left him.
That’s why he was feeling the way that he was now-- why you were feeling the terrible way you were now.
No matter how much you wanted to make sure that he was okay, you needed to give yourself that pleasure first. You owed yourself at least that much after dealing with his bull shit for the past months.
You shook Kirishima off of your shoulders, startling him slightly; however, you sent him a reassuring smile, “You have to take care of him...” you didn’t mean for your voice to break toward the end of you sentence.
“W-what?”
“I…” You cleared your burning throat in an attempt to save your voice from cracking again, “I can’t-- won’t take care of him anymore, so I need you to, okay?”
“O-okay. Well—uh. I-uh… I was not expecting that,” he nervously laughed—breaking himself off mid-chuckle to search your eyes for any distress signals, “You okay?” He had an eyebrow raised.
“I’ll be okay. Thank you so much Kiri,” You once again smiled at him before you made your way to your car.
“N-no problem, I guess… You are really not okay right? I feel like that is what I am gathering from this situation,” his eyes continued to dance across your expression in an analytical matter.
“Don’t worry about me. You’ll have…” you signed a load of air that you hadn’t even realized had been stored within your heavy chest, “...a lot on your plate,” you finished before turning around to walk towards where you had left your car.
You could only manage a few heavy trundles before you felt strong arms wrap around you, “You’re solid, Y/N. I am so sorry you had to go through this, but if anyone can handle it, its you,” he whispered into your hair before placing a light, friendly kiss on your forehead, “Love you,” he bid his farewell as he pulled himself from you.
Kirishima watched as you made your way to your car to make sure you made it safely since it had grown dark outside. He noticed the tired way that your shoulders drooped as you walked. The dense man was never thought to be the most perceptive of the bunch—he knew this, but he swore that somewhere within your somber stance, was a hint of relief. It was as if your drooping form was due to a sudden weight being lifted off of you. You were only contoured to the emotional baggage that had weighted you down and soon, like the resilient, wonderful woman you were, you’d eventually mold back into yourself.
Kirishima felt the corners of his lips tug into a warm-hearted smile as he watched your car pull off—exchanging one more wave to you before you left.
It was bitter-sweet for sure. After all, who knows when the next time he’ll see you will be?
Never mind that though; He’s got another buddy to worry about right now. The man’s red eyes uneasily shifted to he front door of his crisp, worn down apartment, wherein he knew a train wreck resided.
Would Bakugou even listen to him after all that they had been through that day: the tree villain, the argument, the fire?
‘That night, you told me that you didn’t want her to leave us. There is no us, you delusional bastard. It is me and her.’ Bakugou’s words rang in Kirishima’s ears worse than any one of his explosions had ever managed to. Obviously, there was still some unresolved issues between them, so what chance would he have in being the comforting friend that Bakugou needed in that moment?
Kirshima suddenly shook his head in a crude attempt to get rid of the swarm of doubt infesting his mind, and pushed his chest out strongly as a man should,
“Here goes nothing,” he muttered under his breath as he opened the door to the home, “Bakugou?! Bro? You in here?” He knew very well that he was, but it felt right to give him some sort of alert to his presence. He read that about feral bears once when he used to hike with Bakugou a lot. It seems as if it could apply in this situation a well he guessed…
“Come get your crap,” the sudden rough voice shook Kirishima out of his his wandering thoughts. He looked up to see Bakugou holding a large plastic crate, “I only brought two bins, so make sure not to pack like a dumbass.”
“Huh?” Kirishima was expecting him to be much more of a... mess. The dull shine that your hazy eyes had held a few minutes ago was very similar to those of shell shocked veterans, yet this scene in front of him was far from war-- actually pretty domestic for Bakugou standards.
Bakugou’s expression hardened as he slammed the crate down in front of Kirishima. It sounded with a loud clang as he spoke up once more, his pressing voice just as booming, “We are going to Racoon Eye’s aren’t we, dumbass??”
“Uh-- right, yeah!” Kirishima found himself being distracted by a glint of something else in Bakugou’s angry expression, “You’re… okay with that now?” he questioned as he moved around the apartment, searching for salvageable items to bring with him.
Mina was the first and only one of their friends to come visit them at the hospital that evening, only because they were hospitalized for just a few hours and she was so close by.
She obviously offered to house her two friends until they got back on their feet since she had plenty of room in her duplex; however, before she could even get the words completely out of her mouth Bakugou had already begun protesting with “I don’t fucking need your help,” and “I’d rather live on the street than live in your garbage can house, Racoon eyes!”
The explosive man was now singing a different tune, “Well it’s not like I have much of a fucking choice now do I?” The blond man currently grumbled to himself as the two packed up their belongings.
Kirishima simply shrugged in return-- a slight smile on his face. Bakugou seemed to be doing much better than he was when he left the hospital. Maybe he was afraid for him for no reason.
The two men continued packing as a thick sheet of uncomfortable silence engulfed them. Kirishima didn’t mind though. He would much rather have this than have Bakugou explode the apartment again. Besides, the two were soon enough, finished packing up and Bakugou went to go “take a piss” one more time before they departed for Mina’s apartment.
As Kirishima placed his final item in his bin, a sudden gleam from Bakugou’s crate caught his attention. It was honestly nothing too vibrant or spectacular, yet something inside of the man told him to go investigate it. He shuffled the tightly packed items a little to uncover more of the object and turned it slightly to its side to unvcover its shattered face when suddenly—
“Don’t fucking touch that!” Bakugou roared, snatching Kirishim’a arm and tossing it away from the bin, but it was too late-- Kirishima’s eyes told that he had already seen what it was.
“That was the sports festival picture of you and Y/N from high school…” Kirishima reported with a concerned expression.
“I know what the hell it is, you idiot,” he gruffly replied as he snatched up his bin and began marching toward the exit.
Kirishima hurriedly grabbed his own and followed Bakugou’s actions, “I... saw her leave when I came in,” he wasn’t sure how to start this conversation, but this seemed neutral enough. And it actually piqued the blond’s interest.
His eyebrows slightly furrowed in surprise. Kirishima hadn’t come in for a long while after you had walked out of the door. Were you really waiting out there for such a long time? What the hell did that mean?
“She looked a little upset, but not like usual.” well recently. Kirishima could only internally add that, “You got the closure you needed, didn’t you.”
“Are you gonna just run your goddamn mouth all damn night??” Bakugou suddenly snapped, but upon seeing his friend’s worried expression a pit of guilt settled deep within his stomach. An awkward air of silence filed in between the two friends once more as a big Taxi van pulled up in front of them. Bakugou blew out a gust of hair as a pout rested on his face.
He would never say this out loud but maybe he would apply his new found methods of care to his best friend as he had planned to with you. It was no secret that Kirishima had pretty much been the only thing holding him together for the past few months, and he honestly didn't deserve all of the thrashing that Bakugou dished out toward him-- no matter how thick his skin was.
The blond didn’t know what he would do if Kirishima left him alone like you had.
“I kissed her... I kissed her a lot actually,” Bakugou grumbled under his breath. Kirishima’s jaw dropped in shock as Bakugou continued, “It felt like good bye, but also really good,” His cheeks crept into a slight blush at the recollection of how amazing your body had felt on top of his. He shook this light feeling away as the Taxi trunk lifted open, “So it can only mean goodbye for now. I’ll get her back one day—if it’s the last thing I do, I’ll have her be my wife,” Bakugou knew that he wasn’t saying this fully because he believed it, but as Kirishima as his witness, he would be held accountable for his winning or failing. No. Fuck that. For his winning.
Surprisingly, Kirishima ate up Bakugou’s determination and made it his own, “Sounds like a plan,” his eyebrows tensed as his expression folded into a proud smirk, “Just don’t do any thing irrational, these things take time.”
Bakugou grabbed the other man’s bin from him to load it, “Do you think I’m and Idiot or something?! I know that! That’s why I sent her out.”
“Wow…” Kirishima’s heart began swelling up, “That was really manly of you. Mature too! I am proud of you, bro.”
The other man simply rolled his eyes, “You haven’t ever even been in a real relationship, shitty hair. I don’t know what the hell makes you think that you’re better than me at this shit,” A sudden dull pain ripped through Kirishima’s chest at Bakugou’s words. He knew that he hadn’t meant it with more malice than typical, but for some reason, these words had reached him in a sore spot in his heart.
As Bakugou finally finished packing his final objects into the taxi, he slammed the trunk down, snapping Kirishima out of his wandering thoughts. Finally, the two made it back to Mina’s just as the sun had begun to rise again.
They walked up to her apartment, but just as Kirishima raised his hand to knock a loud screeching of metal could be heard from next door. A fumbling voice cursed under her breath before a face peeped out of the other half of the duplex.
“You must be Mina’s new house guests! Sorry for scaring you! This door is stupid loud! It just needs some oil, but honestly, I like to call it my homemade alarm system,” Kirishima gave hearty laugh at the woman’s passing joke, while Bakugou only glared away.
“Yep! We’ll be hanging out for a little while! I’m Eijirou Kirishima!” the red haired man excitedly greeted, “And this is my buddy, Bakugou.”
“Nice to meet you Bakugou—Kirishima,” the way that his name rolled out suddenly made Kirishima’s blood pool into a hot mess near the surface of his cheeks.
I studied the two of their faces and gauged them with my serial killer/freak/pervert radar and found nothing too alarming, “I am her landlord, Y/N,” I continued with a smile as I made my way fully out of the apartment to properly greet them-- eyeing the light shade of pink dusted across the cute one’s expression. I was obviously too infatuated to notice that the other man’s face had crumpled considerably at the mention of my name.
“We didn’t ask,” the ignored man spat instinctively, causing my eyes to sharply snap in his direction. He looked almost hurt. I honestly have seen a lot of hurt men in my day—not because I’m some kind of heartbreaker or anything, but because my apartments are usually dirt cheap. The inevitable divorce that happens with two people are fed up with one another usually sends the male party packing, and guess where the sad saps end up?
My duplex apartments—or some other crappy place like them.
So, what’s this ‘Bakugou’s’ story? I looked to him with an intrigued expression; however, he still hadn’t found the resolve to look me in the face yet.
“Bro! Can you stop that!” Kirishima instantly reprimanded his friend. He was completely embarrassing him in front of the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen, “I am so sorry for him! He’s just had a bad day.”
I don’t even entertain that bullshit as I keep my eye’s steadied on the angry, obviously broken man in front of me, “Uh-huh… So anyways,” I finally looked back toward the cute red-head, “Here’s the keys Mina wanted me to give you. She’s got a early shift today so she won’t be around, but I am always here... sadly,” it was true. Being a landlord was pretty much my only gig. I really should pick up a damn part time or something.
Yeah right. And miss out on sad sap soap operas like this? I stifled a laugh at my thoughts before walking back to my apartment.
I sharply turn around catching the red-head’s eyes lingering on my form, “Holler if you need anything, but don’t holler if you don’t because nobody likes a noisy neighbor, got it?” I wink at him before making my way into my apartment.
Bakugou finally averted his gaze from the metal rail that he had been glaring at in the distance and snatched the key’s out of Kirishima’s frozen hands, “You’re drooling, dumbass,” he snaps his friend out of the trance that I had left him in as he roughly shoves past him toward Mina’s front door. The blond felt his heart ache begin to creep up on him again.
I just had to have the same name as you did. Who knew Y/N was such a popular name?
On the other side of town, you had only just returned home as well, “Todoroki?” you called out softly into the dark house. No reply came and you weren’t sure if you were relieved or upset. Your feet were still heavy from earlier as you tiredly shuffled into the living room and plopped down onto the couch, a huge sigh being released from your being as you threw your head back.
You sat like this for a moment, unable to feel much as a numbness began spreading throughout your aching body. Your eyes peeled open to stare at the ceiling above you. You forced your heavy head back up and took in the mess of papers scattered throughout your home from yesterday evening’s transgressions.
“Y/N,” The sudden voice made you jump, but your tense body was soon engulfed in Todoroki’s tight arms, “I was so worried when you didn’t come home last night! I--” the man found himself trying to calm down. He took a short breath and restarted his approach once more as he looked into your eyes, “You were stress driving again, weren’t you? I don’t like how we left things, Y/N. I can’t have you leave upset like that ever again. I love y-“
“Katsuki and I hooked up,” you abrupted his oncoming confession. You had to let him know. You were the mess of a human that ruined Fae’s love and stomped on Todoroki’s as well-- god!
A well of tears pooled in your eyes as you stared at the man who loved you-- the man you were definitely destroying. “W-what?” his stoic demeanor completely shifted into a zone of hurt.
“Katsuki and I kissed. A lot,” you corrected, “God Todo, it was like melting back into home-- into what I am supposed to be! I-I am no better than him!” your voice finally cracked as your first tears began falling. You moved your body to walk away from him, but he tightened his grip on you just enough to hold you in place,
“You’re nothing like Bakugou. You’re caring and honest and considerate and beautiful and I don’t take back what I said. I do love you. I still really do,” regret began filing into his expression as his pursed his lips, “Maybe I shouldn’t have waited so long to show that. I know that actions speak louder than words,” His eyes flickered down to your lips.
He had wanted to wait thing long to give you the time to properly heal, but that approach was obviously was simply letting your emotions simmer and crust over. Maybe the Todoroki would have to take a more direct approach in showing you your worth.
“How I feel remains the same,” his breath reached your face in a warm blanket as he wiped away your tears, “Y/N, I’d like to know if you feel the same way,” he leaned in closer to you and waited. He needed you to close that last centimeter of distance, then he could fully show you how much you meant to him—No reservations.
“I... do...” you weren’t sure if you sounded too sure, but to Todoroki’s ears, he’d never heard anything so certain! Taking initiative Todoroki disappeared the final distance between you as his lips slowly found their way towards your own. He passionately pressed his mouth against your own as if he were desperately trying to erase any trace of Bakugou.
Fuck that bastard for hurting the woman he loved and then having the gall to keep you entranced in some sort of spell. He was going to erase that fool from your life no matter what...
“Achoo!”
“Damn, city flowers!” The sun was at full mast as Bakugou made his way back toward Mina’s apartment after his “hike.” Mina lived pretty much in the middle of the city’s most urban area and there was practically no tree’s in sight. What was supposed to be a refreshing walk was turned into an aggravating extra shift at work as he came across multiple attempted muggings, an assault, and even a flasher.
The man huffed.
It wasn’t like he had shit else to do. He fucking wished that he could be like Kirishima, sleeping like a baby. He was going on 40 hours without sleep, after all. The past two days had been, in lack of better words, a complete shit show.
But things were about to look up for him. He had a plan in place to get you back. All that he needed to do was follow that plan and nothing in heaven or hell could stop him from—
A feminine shriek snapped him out of his thoughts, “Get you damn hands off of me, prick!”
Bakugou growled in frustration. He was gonna explode the hell out of whoever this was he swore to god.
The man angrily marched toward the bickering voices. They were near the base of Mina’s duplex.
Bakugou paused as he walked straight into one of my frequent arguments with my on-and-off dick of a boyfriend, Ty.
“Baby, you know that I love only you,” his voice hardly sounded believable. In, fact I was sure that I have heard toddlers be more persuading, “It shouldn’t matter what happened in the fucking past. Can’t you just let bygones be bygones?” A half-laugh, half-snort love child tore out of me as I rolled my eyes at the bag of dicks in front of me.
“You’re full of shit, Maybe that’s why your breath smells like ass all of the time,” I tried to turn to walk back into my apartment, but he suddenly snatched me by my shoulder and roughly whipped me around toward him,
“Dammit, Y/N!” the sound of yours and my name caused Bakugou’s heart to race as his nervous system suddenly went on edge. An intense mode to protect suddenly activated within him as the man that I was arguing with continued, “If you’d stop being such a bitch for five seconds and let me explain!” he roughly snatched my face in his hands.
“GET THE FUCK OFF OF ME!”
Should Bakugou interrupt this lover’s quarrel? Or ignore the couple’s arguing and go home?
YOU DECIDE!!

RATE THE EPISODE 338 Responses
This episode gained a lot of positive responses with 87.6% rating it at a 5, with only a couple people not so impressed. Hopefully future episodes will keep up the high streak!
As it stands right now, this is my favorite episode from the anime. How the Beast Titan's rampage was animated was so much more horrific and impactful than the manga, I felt more sympathy with Erwin than I did when I read the manga, and the final series of scenes that depict the suicide charge were so masterfully done I felt my heart grow heavy. Absolutely spectacular. I hope the next episode is even better <3
It was fucking amazing. Perfect game, more like perfect episode
Great job all around the board imo. The rock throwing was truly horrifying either the red mist, and the screams were done perfectly
So far easily the most harrowing, depressing episode of the anime :/
Even though I knew what it is going to happen in this ep, wit has managed to surprise me. Best episode of the season so far with the first one.
Favorite episode of the series so far
It was great, but the poor animation quality really ruins some serious moments in this arc, as many people are dying
Just Perfect, the tension and release were just on point 👌
Took the crown from S2EP6 as the best of the series for me.
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT? 349 Responses
A lot of attention was on Erwin this chapter and many were moved by his scenes. Most notably, his charge with his soldiers at the Beast Titan led with 28.9% respondents picking it as their favorite moment. 17.8% respondents said Levi kneeling in front of Erwin and vowing to take down Zeke was their favorite, followed by Erwin’s motivational speech at 14.3%.
Bombardment scene was made 30 times better in the anime.
It was the moment we were all waiting for, and it happened and now I'm like a deflated balloon of emotion. Thank you, Erwin.
The imagery of the fallen scouts chilled me and I loved that included Isabel, Farlan, Isle Lagnar etc but my anger towards Annie has been resurged seeing Petra's face. Female titan I'll never forgive you for wrecking Levi Squad!
Erwin and Levi's relationship is one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen, and I was happy seeing how it was portrayed, finally. With them having cut so many of the moments that showed Erwin as human, I'm glad they took the time to draw the moment of his smile so much. Long live my Commander, I would have followed him to hell.
I was astonished at how well they adapted Levi and Erwin's scenes. Bravo, the animation was top notch, the voice acting was stellar, like wow.
The bodies on the red background was really dark & was the part that had the most impact on me (as opposed to the manga)
erwin and levi's talk made me a lot more emotional than it did in the manga. the whole team did a pretty damn good job with this episode.
WHO WAS THE EPISODE'S MVP? 348 Responses
Unsurprisingly, Erwin gains the MVP award for this episode. Some think Levi stands out as well.
Erwin is humanity"s greatest soldier. Rest in peace, Commander.
Ono Daisuke is the goddamn mvp
Erwin made me gay
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CONNIE MAKING A PUN ABOUT THE FALLING HOUSES? 346 Responses
28% of respondents can relate to Connie’s stressful comedic moment, with 27.5% believe he has the right to make jokes. Some are rolling their eyes or think this isn’t quite an appropriate time.
I think Connie´s joke was his own form of mental breakdown. It makes him all the more relatable to me.
WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE IF YOU WERE ASKED TO JOIN THE SUICIDE CHARGE? 345 Responses
If asked to join Erwin on the suicide charge, a majority at 38.8% of respondents would have faith in the commander and hope to survive. 30.1% of participants aren’t sure what they would do, while an equal amount of people are between retreating or surrendering on the spot.
Crack a joke like Connie
If Erwin throw himself from a bridge, I would too! The fuck. Ok but being serious, being in that horrible scenario without a chance to survive, just nod and fight until the end.
Fuck it. I'm going die anyway; might as well go out swingin
cry, disassociate, and die. in that order.
Lads you would not catch me within 1000 miles of a battlefield. I'm less useful than Reiner on a battlefield, and that's saying something.
Pull a Floch and shit myself while crying
I would actually with all my heart follow Commander Erwin fucking Smith with no expectations of survival. Never have I ever encountered a man as compelling as him, real or fictional.
Sorry Erwin but... someone’s gotta keep Floch from being an ass. I’m sure you understand.
Not really but what about trying to hide closer to the wall since zeke will be throwing rocks at erwin and the others... then wait until levi is done with the monkey.
I would have never been stupid enough to join the survey corps to begin with lol
DO YOU THINK LEVI MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE TO FOLLOW ERWIN’S PLAN OVER HIS OWN? 346 Responses
41.3% of respondents believe that there was no other choice Levi could have made except to defeat the Beast Titan. 39.9% think the plan was the better of the two strategies.
It was the only viable narrative choice, but if it was a real battle retreating with as many survivors as possible might have been sensible.
Levi gave Erwin salvation by making the choice for him and gladly transferred Erwin's own burden of guilt and responsibilities onto his own shoulders. Which also why the word choice of "follow" seems iffy. Erwin is a proven master strategist and brilliant tactician, so of course you always go with his plan. BUT Levi didn't just 'follow' his plan, he made an active *choice* to implement the plan. It is Levi's plan as much as it is Erwin's.
Levi let his personal feelings get in the way of determining what would be the best hope for Humanity's survival.
I sincerely doubt Beastie would have let the survivors go unmolested all the way back to Wall Rose, and Levi knew it which was why he said he doesn't really expect anyone to survive this situation. Erwin had to make his last contribution to humanity in that moment, and they both knew that.
i think the plan should have been to stunt the beast, as we know that he doesn't get killed here anyway (obvs they don't know that), just buy some time ans save as many souls as possible.
HOW MUCH DID ERWIN’S INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH MOTIVATE YOU? 345 Responses
A large majority of voters are willing to believe in Erwin’s encouraging words and die by them no matter the risk.
I'LL FOLLOW YOU TO THE GRAVE COMMANDER ERWIN!!
ERRRRWWWIIIINNN!
WHO YELLED THE BEST INSULT TO BERTOLT? 345 Responses
Out of the few distracting insults, Sasha calling Bertolt a “massive pervert lord” was the best out of the three for 69.6% of respondents.
BEST SHOCKED FACE THIS EPISODE? 348 Responses
It isn’t often Levi is caught off-guard, so his shocked expression this episode was favored by 41.1% of voters. 23.3% of people thought Erwin had an expressive reaction as well.
Erwin’s face when he got hit... Wish we could’ve seen the gore though.
HOW WELL DID WIT ADAPT THE CORRESPONDING CHAPTERS? 343 Responses
There were a couple unsatisfied viewers, but overall a majority of participants believe the episode was fairly accurate to the manga.
the suicide charge was perfectly done.
that slow mo scene of the first boulder shower was amazing! and then the red mist of blood, the screams and cries of fear, pain, and death of the soldiers, the shock, despair, the ghosts of the dead soldiers, the emotion of Erwin and Levi’s last conversation, gosh this episode was beautiful in a morbid and heartbreaking way
It was very well done. It hurt, but not quite as much as the manga did.
Incredible adaptation. I’m tempted to call it flawless.
erwins soft smile after levi confirms what they must do was so special, especially since they hung on erwins face for a while
This episode was far more horrific than the manga version - the blood mist and the screams really upped the fear.
WHICH VERSION OF CONNIE'S JOKE DID YOU LIKE BEST? 346 Responses
There were a few different translations of Connie’s joke depending on the medium. 43.9% preferred Connie’s pun in the manga about Eren having a roof over his head again, while 31.8% thought Connie’s “Yeager” pun in Japanese was the funniest.
The only funny version of connie's joke is the japanese one...
HOW DID THE ADAPTATION OF ERWIN’S MOMENT OF GRIEF AFFECT YOU? 340 Responses
Erwin’s moment of grief was a somber scene for many, and over half of participants feel the adaptation tugged on their heart strings more than when they read the manga. Less than a quarter felt more sympathetic, with quite a number preferring the original manga version better.
There’s something about actually hearing his voice that made me want to cry again
I dunno, I think both mediums had different but equal impact in terms of the actual speech. The anime is very emotionally and viscerally effective, whereas with the manga you take longer to process what's in front of you at your own pace, in the privacy of your own skull. Both very moving.
Can't reproduce reading it for the first time but this was great.
I really liked it, but the manga is still more powerful for me.
Doesn't matter to me. I felt the same sorrow and overwhelmed like in the manga was a couple years ago. Great job WIT, absolutely!
I prefer the scene in the manga because of Erwin having more moments of being himself instead of colder than a summer day in Colorado, as the manga clues in more to him being a sad old man. However, Ono Daisuke’s voice acting was ON POINT. Erwin’s voice cracks like he was going to cry, the distance in his voice, it just made me cry.
I was practically sobbing on the floor, take from that what you will.
The hidden option of: Both were heartbreaking to me
KNOWING FLOCH NOW, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HIS BREAKDOWN? 348 Responses
Since RtS, Floch has become a paramount character in the current manga arc. Viewing his breakdown in the episode, 37.1% respondents think the moment was great in humanizing him. 18.4% respondents are less moved and found pleasure in his despair. Several were reminded why they used to like Floch and some gave praise to his seiyuu’s performance.
Back when I read the chapters, I found Floch to be annoying, now with the recent ones I really dislike him more. I still felt the same watching the episode but the seiyuu did a good job
Um, a combination of the above options I think. I was always 'meh' about Floch until his jerkface side began to show. So I never actually 'liked' him, but I certainly empathised with him at this point, and his seiyuu was definitely brilliant!
I have never liked him, really
I don't agree with his mindset in the current chapters of the manga but seeing the fucked up shit that he went through being the sole survivor and even then not being able to revive the Commander. I can see that trauma changed him to just follow Eren's instructions that he would let someone like Zeke live on but give far lesser thoughts to his actual saviour, Levi. As such, in the particular episode and the extent of the anime, I pity him and his VA did an amazing job of displaying a normal soldier's reaction.
Independently from his future actions, I think his breakdown is irresponsible and it doesn't help, given the circumstances.
Floch's a prick, but his VA was fantastic here and actually made me sympathize with him quite a bit. Can't wait to hate him again in a few eps though.
I had a lot of sympathy for him at the time in the manga, and seeing it again has made me think about how he's come to the point he has in the current story. PTSD and survivor's guilt explain a lot.
Hate him with a passion. I had forgotten that Levi actually kinda saved him, and now knowing how he wanted to kill Levi in recent chapters made me hate him even more.
I don’t give a floch
I think there still a hidden motive that Floch has since he is definitely following Eren now. I predict that in his mind he is honoring his fallen comrades by acting the way he is in recent chapters. Might be messed up externally, but I think there is more to Floch since his motives likely match Eren’s who we still haven’t quite figured just yet.
Of course we can have sympathy for someone without justifying their actions. I do sympathise terribly with Floch's trauma as the sole survivor of the suicide charge, but I do NOT accept it as a reason to become a militant ethno-nationalist. (His seiyuu was beyond amazing tho, props)
who the fuck is floch?
MARLOWE AND MOBLIT’S DEATHS ARE COMING UP AND SOME HAVE EXPRESSED THAT THEY WOULD LIKE SOME ADDITIONAL ANIME ORIGINAL SCENES FOR THEM - THOUGHTS? 347 Responses
Sadly, Marlowe and Moblit’s death scenes will be shown within the next couple episodes. 50.1% of respondents believe these scenes are impactful enough to stick with the manga while 36% would want to see the anime had something more.
Additional scene definitely for Moblit!! Poor boi is so underrated :'-(
Marlowe :( :( :(
I would definitely like to see more of Moblit, we have barely seen him this season. I feel like the only scenes we'll see him in are pre-death and post-death (we could see him as a ghost in Erwin's grief scene). Moblit deserves way more than this. Marlowe is adorable and seeing him die will be enough to break my heart, especially when you think that the only person surviving that suicide charge was not a great person like him, but the disgusting scumbag that Floch is.
WHICH SCENE FROM THE PREVIEW ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? 348 Responses
A majority of readers at 69.8% can’t wait to see the infamous first battle between Humanity’s Strongest and the War Chief. 23.3% are more enthusiastic for Armin’s face-off against Bertolt. Needless to say, it’s going to be an eventful episode.
I AM NOT READY FOR SHINGANSHINA FRIED ARMIN.
Isn’t it wild that next episode we’ll likely see the defeat of all three of the Warriors? Bye Zeke, Bye Reiner, Super-Bye Bertholdt.
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?
This was the best episode so far that has been aired. The emotions were high, the soundtrack was impeccable, the animation/drawings were fantastic (aka Levi had emotions!!!), and it really did a good job manifesting the hopelessness of the situation to the audience.
I forgot how hopeless the situation was during all of this. The constant narrating on stones in the background and the recruits screams really showed that
My only gripes were the music choice and lack of proper facial expression (Although, maybe that's just because Isayama is amazing at expressions)
That red mist was so horrible and made everything look so gruesome, I was in shock. This episode really hit me hard, I wasn't ready to watch it and now that I have, I'm having a hard time recovering
I was HEARTBROKEN at the end of this episode. Hard enough to read the chapter, worse still to see it on screen. So much sorrow and regret for poor Erwin.
I need that piano ost
Rip Erwin. Shinzou'ed his last sasageyo.
I've never felt something watching SnK until this episode. Erwin's face during the suicide charge was something... That was the real face of fear. He knew he had to let go his dreams for the sake of humanity, unlike previous times where he used this excuse to move forward his dream.
The music and Erwins’s voice actor made it nearly perfect
WIT is playing a dangerous game with the amount of CGI they're using. It hasn't really "ruined" anything for me yet, but they're getting close.
I cried even though i already knew what would happen. Is it normal doctor ?
The episodes have just gotten better and better, and this one might just be my favorite in the series. Definitely top 3. Just fantastic execution all around. It truly managed to bring back that feeling of hopelessness. Daisuke Onoue is an absolute legend. Not ashamed to say I cried about 3 times opon rewatches.
This episode broke me. Literally. I was mourning for Erwin for a while after, still am. I thought having read the manga would prepare me somewhat for the Vow™ conversation, but holy shit. I dunno if this is in the manga but Erwin had tears in his eyes when he sat on the crate. Erwin Smith was *crying*. And his voice (kudos to Daisuke Ono!!!) just. Absolutely wrecked me. Amazing, amazing episode. The kind you badly want to rewatch again and again but can't without bolstering up your emotional strength each goddamn time.
WHERE DO YOU PRIMARILY DISCUSS THE SERIES? 332 Responses

The absurdly-overdue Niekki post
I don’t think I realized it until I answered a Ma//kk//i ask a few days ago, but I fucking love Nikki and Neil as a ship. It’s just really cute and sweet, they make perfect sense together, and if I was a betting nerd I’d call them endgame.
And they’re also the least popular ship in the entire fandom. Including the gross ones.
And it honestly comes as such a surprise to me, because thinking it over, I realized something completely fucking bonkers that I don’t think anyone has paid much attention to:
Neil/Nikki has a stronger canon basis than any other ship in Camp Camp, by miles.
Yes, more than Gwe//nvid.
That should tell you how dead-fucking-serious I am about this ship.
Season 1, Episode 1: Escape from Camp Campbell
These two spent an entire who-knows-how-long bus ride together, as the only people on that bus (QM doesn’t count as people and you know it), both of them convinced they were going to entirely separate camps.
I want more than anything on this earth to know what that conversation was like. Nikki being such an enthusiastic and chatty little bean, there’s no way she didn’t talk his ear off the entire time and we were robbed of that conversation, Rooster Teeth.
MAKE IT RIGHT, ROOSTER TEETH.
Season 1, Episode 2: Mascot
They went on a fun little adventure together, without Max! They risked life and limb and found a new mascot and learned about each other and held hands and it was so cute and sweet -- and I failed to take a single screencap of it, because like everyone else I somehow missed that this ship is perfect and everything I ever needed. But I do have a picture of them bonding with David, so:
“Bonding.”
Season 1, Episode 3: Scout’s Dishonor
Not only do I have no pictures from this episode because it doesn’t include David and when I first started watching/screencapping I was a total slut for that good tree boy, but the Camp Camp wiki has no pictures from this episode. WHY DOES NO ONE WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE HOW GOOD THIS SHIP IS?!
Anyway, picture-less: Neil explores his gender, is exposed to basically the camp of his dreams, and in the end decides to abandon it because Nikki gives him the sweetest most vulnerable smile --
Man, a picture would sure go down smooth right here, huh? Too bad no one cares about these two or their interactions, my 2016 self apparently included. (My 2019 self is currently doing this during some downtime at work, hence not just pulling up new caps. If I must suffer, y’all must suffer.)
-- and then they fly away together on a bird Nikki summoned! And Neil thinks that’s the coolest shit ever, and the awe in his face and voice when she shows the Flower Scouts Timothy is really good and HOW? HOW DID NO ONE NOTICE?!
They learn about each other and accept one another even though they’re not exactly alike, and it’s one of the more wholesome parts of the entire show.
ETA: JUST KIDDING I TOTALLY HAD A POST I FORGOT ABOUT! I’m keeping my comments in because they made me laugh though.
Season 1, Episode 4: Camp Cool Kidz
They’re on opposite sides of this conflict because Neil is on the side of his bro/boyfriend Max, but it doesn’t seem to damage their friendship at all. These two can forgive and forget like nobody’s business. (This also applies to Max and Nikki, yes. Makkiel4lyfe.)
Also she saw him shirtless. Mrow.
Season 1, Episode 5: Journey to Spooky Island
They . . . um . . .
Listen, not every episode is gonna have ironclad evidence, okay? Just look how cute they are and shut up.
Season 1, Episode 6: Reigny Day
Actually, Nikki’s kind of a dick to Neil in this episode. She doesn’t especially care if he’s dead and laughs at him for having a diary. This episode is really all about Max being Neil’s bro and looking for him when he goes missing.
Like I said, not all gold, but adorable.
Season 1, Episode 7: Romeo & Juliet: Love Resurrected
HE IS SO NERVOUS TO KISS HER OH MY GODDDDDD
And I think that’s all the incisive commentary this episode needs.
Season 1, Episode 8: Into Town
Neil is the first and only person to notice that something is wrong with Nikki; even though they didn’t spend a ton of time together this episode, they do have one of the more powerful emotional beats. He knows her arguably better than Max does, and can therefore more quickly recognize when she’s not herself (though how you miss that says less about Neil and more about what a single-minded revenge-obsessed monster Max is at this point in the show).
This is not the first time he notices that Nikki’s being mistreated and expresses concern, either. He’s much more protective of her than his often-selfish nature would imply.
Season 1, Episode 9: David Gets Hard
They spend the entire episode playing together! Bonding! This is basically what we can assume they’re doing whenever Max is off with David or Dolph or whatever scheme he has going on when he’s not with them, and the fact that they basically spend all their waking hours hanging out and being friends is just really lovely, especially considering how little they have in common and how few the things they’d both enjoy doing are.
It becomes clear that their friendship can survive without Max acting as an anchor, which, as anyone who’s been in a 3-person friendship can attest, is not always the case.
Season 1, Episode 10: Mind Freakers
Neil is such a jerk in this one, and I actually think it makes a really nice contrast. Nikki’s been mean to him in previous episodes, and in a very similar way; in “Reigny Day,” she cares less about his well-being than about having her own fun and exciting adventure. In this episode, Neil’s similarly too self-absorbed to worry about his friend’s personal safety -- albeit with much more disastrous (maybe? Is Nikki magic?) results.
But the way Nikki just trots along beside him down the path to hell and choking on magic scarves is adorable. She more or less always trusts him and does what he tells her to.
This is perhaps not the wisest idea, but Nikki isn’t known for her wisdom.
What’s the opposite of that “get you a man who” meme? Because this is not. Get a man who never does this.
That being said, the look on his face when he’s genuinely scared for her life and about to turn his back on everything he believes?
I ship it.
Season 1, Episode 11: Camporee
There’s literally nothing. They’re barely in this episode and I don’t think they interact at all. They can’t all be winners, I guess.
That being said, Max and Neil have this really cute moment and it should be appreciated. Anyway.
Season 1, Episode 12: The Order of the Sparrow
Shit, they’re not really in this one either! The closest we get to shipping fodder is Neilxplatypus.
I mean . . . Nikki is basically a wild animal, and apparently Neil is cool with that under very specific circumstances. It’s a stretch, but I still think there’s more than enough --
Holy shit.
Wait.
I’ve only done the first season so far! And this is long as balls! Oh my god, there’s no fucking way I’m doing all the episodes in this post. Niekki is getting a multi-post spectacular because they deserve it, damn it.

so, of nicknames I have had many, even if they have not remained: - in elementary school they called me Jaws, because I intimidated the school boys (I was very 'masculine' when I was little, and sometimes they mistaken me for a boy because I fought with them) -some friends called me shaon, because ‘it sound good with your personality!' (I never understood what they meant by this) -some are names that have taken the place of my real name, that sometimes people could not say well, like Carina, Marina, Helina, etc .. one, however, remained since my childhood, given by my parents, Costy.
(at the beginning I didn't like it, but as the years went by, I got used to it)
zodiac sign:: the zodiac sign of pisces :)
height:: I’m 5′0-1 (ish)......i’m short
hogwarts house:: I think I would be among the Gryffindors, because despite my being socially anxious, I am enough brave and loyal, and I like helping people (even if my hard-working nature can make one think of hufflepuff)
last thing i googled:: ......goggle traduction..... this is self explanatory
fav musicians:: hum ... so, my favorite band is Queen, (I need to explain why?) since I was little, my mother made me hear their classics, being a big fan too :) and is difficult to explain what I like about them ... their music is spectacular, and gives you an incomparable feeling of love (at least for me) their style, each of them artists with their different and unique personalities, they manage to put it together and create legendary music, together they formed a harmony, like the notes form a music. together they formed a family that few people have the privilege of knowing its warmth and love. (I could go on for hours, so let's talk about something else) I like the Beatles, as I said before, it was my mother who introduced them to me, and their music is iconic, wonderful, and every time I hear them on the radio it's hard not to start singing with them. for the more recent bands, I like Panic at the Disco, with interesting and very beautiful music, and incredible music videos (I like the art deign). then I like Linkin Park, even if sometimes their music is a little depressive, it's incredible and the feeling they give is beautiful. then, as individual artists, I like Ed Sheeran for his incredible music that it's impossible not to sing them. then there is Melanie Martinez, with her iconic WTF (as always, i love the artistic side) video, with music full of amazing messages and feelings (a bit sad, but still beautiful) I could go on for centuries to list which musics artists I like, but I don't want to make peole bored, so it's all for now
fav books:: then, my favorite books ... the lord of the rings, the hobbit and the silmarillion, then there is the saga of Eragorn (although the last book is not as beautiful as the others), Harry potter, and Narnia ( classic) as less classic books: the Medicus, Graceling, the tree of life, the saga of Inkheart, terese requin, la mort c'est mon metirer, my name is nobody, Sette volte gatto.
song stuck in your head:: there are many music or pieces of text of the music that remain in my head, and ultimately they are Queen ... damn. now i have 'somebody to love' and 'i whant to break free' in my head, and who knows what I'll have tomorrow ....
following:: 152
followers:: 175! wow, I never thought I'd go that far, and I thank you with all my heart for having the patience to follow me until now! I adore you (even if I don't know you ^^') after I finish the exams, I will open a small request space, and you can ask me any kind of drawing (no sexual ones. I'm not very comfortable with them)
do you get asks:: no. even if I'm open to talking. talk to me :)
amount of sleep:: hum .... after hours of art work, I can usually fall asleep around 1/2 at night, and I wake up at 4 am. at that moment I'm like a zombie and I try to go back to sleep, but I can't do that much any more, so, I'm in a kind of sleep-wake. at 6-7 in the morning, I have enough conscience, but not wanting to get out of bed, I take the phone and scroll tumblr or youtube. at 8 am I’m out of bed (this during the holidays, because when I'm under university, I wake up at 5 and get up at that time to study) i’m quite a morning person
lucky number:: 5 or 6, like the numbers of the people of my family :)
what are you wearing:: a black and white striped tank top and denim shorts with tights
dream job:: work in the production of animation, video games or cinema as art and design style :) or work with writers to get a decent movie script. or as an actress, even though I am nervous and akward, I have always enjoyed acting (and apparently I was also good, since my mother make me joined many times the theater)
I would like to inspire people, and make them feel with my works, make them happy and amazed :)
dream trip:: hum .... I don't have a precise destination, I'd like to go around the world and see the historical wonders of man and nature. I'd like to do it with someone, maybe a loved one with i would love to share the wonders of the earth. I am a hopeless romantic
instruments:: no. I tried different instruments, like piano and guitar, but I am denied playing them ... but I can sing, if this can be counted as an instrument
languages:: I know Italian because I am Italian, lol. but jokes aside, I speak fluent French and some English, (although I am fluent in writing in English, but not so much in writing French) then I would like to speak Spanish or German, I still have time :)
favorite songs::auch, I have a billion favorite music:
- Caravan Palace: Lone Digger. I'm crazy about the style of music similar to the 20s and 30s -Gorillaz: feel good inc. I love the singer's voice and the guitar of the central piece -Linkin Park: iridescent. I'm sorry, sad as it is, and one of my favorites -Katy Perry: Roar: the tiger and my sign in the Chinese zodiac, and my favorite animal (explains itself) -Eminem: Venom. that song is one of the coolest things in the world -Roberto Benigni: how much I loved you. I can not put this beautiful Italian song. it makes me full of love and it breaks my heart every time I listen - Melanie Martinez: baby i'm mad. christ, this song is fantastic. -Deiver Us from the - prince of Egypt -. omg, this music is spectacular. -QUEEN: Somebody to love, Killer Queen, I was born to love you, who wants to live forever, etc ... DO I NEED TO SAY WHY I LIKE? NO? WELL!
random fact:: hum ....
I have a love-hate relationship with my bicycle, because I had all my accidents on the road with it. (I was hit by a car twice, and crashed on a wall because the brakes didn't work)
I end up at the hospital so many times that I needed another pair of hands to count it. (I'm clumsy)
and lastly, although I am clumsy in the civilized world, I adore survival in the forests, and fight sword against sword with my cousin.
aesthetic:: ok ..... i don't have a precise style, maybe casual? with some 70s touches. maybe even a little hipster or nerd
ok ...... i will just tag some people I love and follow, ok?
@bowieandqueen11 , @avaloncelsus , @akhmenawkward , @innueendo , @ghostie-stories , @brian-maybe-not
(they are few people, but I like talking to them and follow they blog, so forgive me if you never talked to me, I'm just a poor girl)

Dear Sinless,
I have no idea where that came from, for one thing. I’m neither almighty nor all-knowing, but I appreciate the praise (even if it’s supposed to be sarcastic -- I can’t really tell).
Dear sinyove,
You look familiar...
Anyway, that’s a good question. Sweating isn’t something you just forget how to do, so I imagine AJ Phoenix still sweats in nervous situations, just not as often since he isn’t involved in courtroom proceedings. Plus he works at a cold restaurant, so that’s probably helped to cool him down a little.
Dear sinyove again,
Sorry, but there’s no way for us to do that without answering it right away, so we’ll probably have to leave it as it was. We’ll change it if we remember, though.
(Song in Letter)
Dear CreatorOfSinyove,
That’s a pretty cool mashup, but I’m a little confused as to why you wanted me to call you by a different name. You can always send letters with whatever name you want if you log out of your account first. (Please forgive me if I’m missing something obvious here.)
Dear Ethan Starbright,
Cute! Unfortunately, I haven’t seen the play, so sorry for not getting the references.
Dear Ethan Starbright,
I'm not sure how I feel about Dahlia being Eliza... But a more important question, does that make Miles Burr? Or maybe Godot?
(Previous Letter)
Dear Anonymous,
I wasn’t sure if this was meant for Phoenix or for us, so I’ll go ahead and answer it. He’s saying he wouldn’t hire Shelly de Killer because he himself would end Kristoph. You’d better hope and pray we never have to see that timeline.
Dear skibot99,
It’s hard to say since I enjoy just about all of them, but my least favorite case is probably Turnabout Big Top. The characters were charming, but the story was slow-going, and the contradictions were way too hard to figure out sometimes.
Incidentally, my favorite case is Turnabout Time Traveler. It delighted me to see that the writers at Capcom still had it in them to make such a fun and imaginative legal adventure for Phoenix and Maya after all these years, and that neither of them had last their edge as clever and quirky crime-solvers. I also happen to be a homeless hopeless romantic, and the idea of a man rescuing his bride from certain death (and the two of them continuing to love each other despite his anterograde amnesia) was incredibly touching for me. In the words of Huey Lewis, “The power of love is a curious thing.”
Dear skibot99,
I honestly don't think I have a least favorite case, because maybe in one case I dislike how the story is proceeding (very slow or confusing), but I may find the characters very interesting, and vice versa.
However, my favorite case would have to be Rise from the ashes or any case from AAI2.
Dear skibot99 again,
I haven’t really seen enough of the anime to judge it as a whole, but from what I’ve seen of it, it’s definitely worth watching. I'd have to say that I prefer the games overall -- though, to be fair, I’d probably say that about any cartoon based on a game -- but the music, voice-acting, and animation are all pretty spectacular, and I love how many extra details it includes that would’ve been practically impossible to fit into the original trilogy games. The adaptation from game to anime is fantastic as well, but I definitely prefer the English dubs over the Japanese ones. Japanese is a lovely language, but hearing the characters speak English, rather than only seeing it, opens the series up to a much wider audience, and you’ve gotta love that.
Speaking of Japan, I’d say the best change to the storyline is having Phoenix and company actually live there instead of America, so we no longer have to wonder where all the Japanese culture is coming from or call it “Japanifornia” -- true, that inconsistency has made for some hilarious jokes, but at least now things make a little more sense.
As for the worst storyline change, it was sort of disappointing for me that Phoenix and Maya’s first encounter was so short -- they didn’t even say anything to each other until he visited her in prison. It was still pretty sweet, but Maya’s introduction of herself to Phoenix was one of my favorite parts of the game, so I was sad to see that cut out of the anime. I’ve never attempted to turn a video game into an anime, though, so I can let it go.
I do have to wonder why they thought they needed more than ten policemen to arrest Frank Sahwit, though...
Dear Bruce Goodman,
Aw, crud... I accidentally smudged an important part of this letter. And it was sent to us over a year ago, wasn’t it? Sheesh, I’m getting clumsy...
In all serious, I prefer not to show the names of real-life politicians on this blog, but I hope you can put that information to good use.
Dear Anonymous,
Let’s see...
Yep, that’s a pretty uncanny resemblance, but I think it’s just coincidence. I can’t imagine his mom letting him take on that sort of role, even if he had a stunt double.
(Picture in the Final Letter)
Dear Anonymous,
I hate to spoil all your hard work, but I’m afraid I don’t know which image link you’re referring to (unless you meant this one). Could you please clarify?
(Previous Letter)
Dear M,
Thanks a bunch, first of all. There’s a lot to be said about the Royal Family of Khura’in (plus I tend to ramble anyway), so I did my best to keep it short.
Secondly, you’ve raised some good points. I sort of snuck in the comparison to the Hawthorne twins at the last minute, so I didn’t give it as much thought as I probably should have. It’d be more accurate for me to say that I thought she was that she was too meek to disobey her sister (in fact, I went ahead and rewrote it that way in the essay).
I'm a huge fan of Iris, by the way, and I agree that she can be strong when the need arises, but there are at least a few things that led me to believe she still has a bad habit of caving in to pressure from others. First, while she never actually obeyed Dahlia, she chose to do whatever was necessary to keep her crimes a secret, rather than making the harder but wiser decision of turning her in to the police. Second, she was willing to cooperate with someone she barely knew (Godot), even to the point of taking a dead body and impaling it with a statue’s sword -- that took some guts, I’ll admit, but it also landed her in prison. And third, she was willing to take the fall for everyone involved in the plan to stop Dahlia in case something went wrong. Whether she decided to do that out of guilt for her past sins, or for some other reason, it was still highly questionable at best. Take the blame for a murder I didn’t commit and let Godot have his way? Sure, why not?
All that being said, I also believe that she managed to forgive herself after everything was out in the open. Most of Iris’s responses were written by someone else (the ones with lowercase tags were written by the Mod), but I guess I have sort of portrayed her as still feeling guilty about her masquerade, and that does seem a bit out of character now that you mention it, so I’ll try to keep that in mind for future letters to her. Thanks for bringing it up.
Also, while we’re on this subject, this comparison reminded me of this letter that I sent back before I was a moderator. It’s sort of heartwarming, isn’t it?
(You were so sweet sometimes, Mod... *sniffle*)

(SING!) Story Not Told, chapter 5 – I Walk the Line
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Click to read chapter 5:
Ash sat in bed rubbing her forehead. She had made bad mistakes, but that was sure to be #1 on the list. She wondered if it was a dream. She wished it was a dream. No. There was no way in hell she kissed Buster. It had to be a dream. But… What if it wasn't? How would she ever look at his face again? She was lost in her own thoughts, when the sound of something metallic crashing to the ground startled her. Chasing after the sound, she found a distressed koala sitting on the ground, and holding his ears. Around him, a variety of pans and pots.
"I washed the dishes, and when I was putting them back, BOOM!" He was motioning agitatedly with his hands. "Sorry I woke you up."
She gave him a somewhat nervous smile. "You didn't wake me, Buster."
"I didn't?" He faced her for a moment, and scratched his head. "Uh! Good. I made you breakfast! I'd eat, but I'm kinda very late and still gotta drop by the theatre to grab my stuff. Mind if I borrow the mug?" He finished, waving a steaming mug in the air. By his actions, she deducted it was coffee.
"Sure, no problem." She was looking for anything to confirm her doubt, but found nothing. It was a crazy dream. It had to be.
"And I still gotta iron this one, great!" He said, putting his creased shirt on hurriedly. "I see you at rehearsal. Thanks for letting me stay the night, and the pizza, and movie, the all. See you!"
He ran out the door, slamming it on his way out. The all. What was that supposed to mean? She sat down in thought, munching on whatever was it that Buster had prepared. Both of them kissing didn't seem likely to her, but that could've been because her maybe-companion was in a hurry. She took another piece of the yellow and brown mix. It tasted kinda good. Reminded her of mash potatoes, and something else she couldn't quite identify. But it tasted good. She heard a knock on the door.
"Come on in, it's open!"
"Didn't take you too long to find someone else." She almost choked on her food.
"What are you doing here?"
"You were just waiting for me to jump out before sticking to the koala, right? And I gave you that!"
"What are you talking about?!"
"That's why you went back, right?! You were seeing him, don't try to hide it, I saw him leaving the building!"
"Lance, he came here to eat and watch a movie!"
"Oh yeah, in the morning, fine, I believe you."
"Why are you here? I don't owe you any explanation on what I'm doing!"
"I thought I was the only cheater, that's why I'm here."
"I'm not-" She laughed nervously. "I can't believe I'm listening to this! You're out of your mind! Buster is a FRIEND!"
"He is? Uh… I wonder how did you went from 'Mr Moon' to 'Buster' so quick."
"Do you call your friends by their last name? Last time I checked, you didn't."
"So I'm imagining all this? You didn't go back because of him, it isn't a coincidence that just the other day after we break up I see him walking out of our house?"
"I went back for us! Both of us! We'd start a label, and the world would know your songs! How did this end up being my fault?!"
"You kicked me out!"
"You were about to kiss someone else, Lance!"
"At least I tried to hide."
"Ha! Tried to hide? You BROUGHT your lover to our house, Lance, our house! Who does that?!"
"You just had to come home early that one day, you had to."
"It's my fault I found you cheating? That's what you're saying?" She practically jumped off the chair.
He put his hands up defensively. "I'm just saying… If you hadn't come home earlier you wouldn't have found out and wouldn't be like that now, babes. Can't you just forget about that?"
She was staring at his incredulously, and couldn't believe her ears. "You cheated Lance! CHEATED, with all letters! Do you expect I'm just going to forgive you for that?!"
"It was a one day thing!"
"Get out of here!"
"Come on, we can start over!"
"I don't-!" The words clogged in her throat. "I don't want to. How long will it take until you cheat again?!"
"You also did!"
"We had split up!"
He froze, smirking and cocking an eyebrow. "So you have something with him."
She sighed. "I don't know for sure."
"That's just how much I meant to you, we break up one day and the following one you are with someone else."
She stared at him venomously. "I waited for us to break up before getting together with someone."
"Okay, okay, babes, that's fine. But let me tell you something, you ain't getting the prize by sleeping with the director."
She choked on her food. "I'm not hearing this!"
"It's not how it works, babes. The guy wants to increase the popularity of that joint, he is going to choose the best performer."
"Stop talking!"
"If that's your strategy, you better just drop it now."
It took all Ash had not to throw something at him. She detested violence, but he was already pushing. She adjusted her quills, and turned to him. "We." She motioned to him, and herself again. "Are not a thing. Get it? This here, is over. I don't owe you anything about who I date, or kiss, and neither do you. You are free to date whoever wants this crazy personality around."
"Crazy?!"
"DO YOU HAVE A BETTER NAME FOR IT?!" Her voice broke, and she couldn't hold her tears back. "You bring your lover to our house, and the next day you barge in here complaining I brought a friend over, let alone assuming I slept with him?! Crazy really isn't the word, Lance, you're absolutely nuts! You are the cheater! You!" She said, closing the space between them, and pointing an inquiring finger at his chest. "And now you are jealous over someone that you aren't dating anymore!"
"More like wondering if you cheated first."
"Are we at high sch-" She swallowed hard. "I didn't. Is that what you wanted to hear? That I was actually loyal to you while you saw others?"
"I did it once!"
"One or one thousand times, it doesn't matter! It's cheating nonetheless!"
He seemed to give her words a thought. "Depends on how you see it."
"I see it that way. Now please, please get out."
He went to the door, and gave her a last glance. "Sure you never cheated?"
"GET THE HELL OUT!" She shut the door in his face. She couldn't believe what had just happened. She slammed her forehead against the door. Blaming her over his cheating? He had to be out of his mind.
Buster was very excited. At least he had a chance to get the money, and of course he was not wishing to waste it. It couldn't be more perfect: He'd get the blueprints he had done with an architect years prior, put it to use, and put together the best singing competition the world had ever seen. It was perfect! But he was running out of time. He ran into the theatre excitedly.
"Okay okay, break time's over! Everybody to the stage please, gather up!"
He paused when going past Ash. The rocker was staring down, avoiding his glaze. He merely shrug it off for now. He had something important to do.
"Miss Crawly!"
"Yes, Mr Moon?"
"Go get D4, please! It should be in our files!"
"D4?" Johnny asked, as the lizard climbed up the stairs.
"It's the number of a file, Johnny, don't worry!" Buster started, "Now, listen up! Tomorrow we're gonna have a full preview of the show, and our audience will be none other than Miss Nana Noodleman!"
And came that bratty, annoying voice no one liked to hear. "Nana Noodleman, that woman still alive?"
"Yes, and believe me, she's got some pretty high standards! Today we are going to have a full dress rehearsal! I want to see you all light up that stage!"
"Got it, Mr Moon."
"Great! Meena, Miss Crawly!" He opened the blueprints to a beautiful, and entirely squid-powered stage. "What ya think?"
Miss Crawly seemed surprised. "So ambitious…"
"Yeah." Meena agreed. "You sure about this?"
"I promised Nana something spectacular, and this!" He quickly folded it back. "This is gonna blow her away! Two minutes everybody!" He finished, taking place at the first row of seats, and motioning for his doddering assistant to follow him. "Putting it simple, guys! Mike first, than Ash, Gunter and Rosita, Johnny as the final act! One more time, Mike, Ash, Gunter and Rosita, Johnny as the final act! Meena, if you feel like it, tag along!"
Mike went on stage and started singing to Fox Sinatra's New York, as all other animals sat, patiently waiting for their turn. However, they noticed Johnny was not there, but knew better than to warn Buster. They had a feeling the koala would not care for that. All they could do was hope he'd be there in time.
Ash was lost in her own thoughts, and was barely listening to whichever joke Gunter was telling. All she could make out were the words "priest", "rabbi" and "minister". Not too long after, the cast broke into laughter, but all she could do was give a weak smile. She wanted Lance back, and it took the power of every fiber of her being to turn him down. And now that power was replaced by acute regret. She didn't want to sing, she wanted to go back to her house and cry herself to sleep.
"Okay, can we see Ash next please? Ash, let's get you out here!"
She sighed and stood up, slowly going onstage.
"Stand back. Moody teenager comin' through." She heard Mike mock. On a normal day she just would've wanted to step on him, but this time she couldn't care less. He could mock her all he wished.
"Good luck, Ash." Came a soothing voice. She smiled a little under her breath. Meena had a way of always sounding sweet and caring no matter what she said. She walked to the mic, as the beat started. That's just what she needed, the most annoying song in the world… Which happened to be about love.
"I threw a wish in the well, don't ask me I'll never tell, I looked to you as it fell, and now you're in my way…" She could feel her eyes burning, and regret, and sadness. "Your stare was holdin'. Ripped jeans, skin was showin', hot night, wind was blowin'. Where do you think you're going baby?" She could no longer hold her tears, and finished the song sobbing. "Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but here's my number… So call me, maybe…" She covered the mic with her hands.
"Whoa whoa, okay, enough of that! Cut it, cut it! Cut it." He rose from his seat. "I don't think anyone's gonna call her after that." His mind flashed back to the previous night. Maybe… No. They didn't went that far for her to be regretting it. "Hey… Come on, Ash, what is it? Do you not like the dress?" He asked sympathetically. She ran to the wings, accidentally sending quills flying all over the place.
"Ow." Buster said, as some quills got stuck to his face. "Ow!" He finished, pulling one of them out.
"Ash, what's wrong?" Rosita said, as Ash rushed right past her.
"Okay, let's call it a break! Five minutes everybody!"
"Okay dear, sit with us and tell me exactly what happened." Rosita soothingly said, while rubbing Ash's back. Trying, at least. More like avoiding quills the best she could. Meena laid down the controllers for now, and listened intently to the porcupine. Mike couldn't care less, and left the theatre. Gunter merely stood against a wall, whilst Johnny still was nowhere to be seen.
"I have a-" Ash begun, wiping her tears. "I had a boyfriend, who cheated on me… Just the other night, I caught him close to kissing someone, at our living room."
"Sohn einer Hündin!" Gunter exclaimed.
"That he said!" Meena added, trying to sound enthusiastic.
"Oh for heaven's sake let her finish!"
"He cheated… And today he dropped by saying he wondered if I had cheated, and asking to forget about it." She sniffed. Rosita lifted a hand in air.
"Why would he ask if you cheated?"
"He saw a friend leaving the house. I had called him the previous night and asked him to drop by, we watched a movie, played a couple songs in the guitar, and ended up falling asleep."
Buster was listening intentionally from a distance, and wondered if she didn't want to share what happened between them, or if she wanted to forget what happened between them. But that didn't matter. At least he knew the entire story now. It was time.
"So he asked if I didn't want to put all that behind, and start again, and I said no, and now I'm regretting it."
Rosita intervened. "Oh, don't you be like that! You are way better off without that… That…"
"That total super-jerk dinkleschplatt!"
"Exactly! Total, super-jerk, dinkle… Schplatt." Rosita spoke it the best she could. She had no idea what it meant, but spoke it for the lack of a better word.
"Rosita, Gunter! You're on!"
"Okay, here!" She added, pushing her purse towards Ash. "There should be some gum or some candy in there, just help yourself!"
She smiled the best she could, and felt a warm feeling flushing her heart. She didn't knew Rosita, or Gunter, or Meena three days prior to this, and here they were, trying to cheer her up. She smiled, and opened the purse to pull out a small gum box that was sitting there. Johnny rushed in. He seemed to be in a hurry. She saw him and Rosita exchange words, then their respective presentations. Saw Rosita fall face first to the ground, and leave upset by all matters, and Johnny both present and leave as hurriedly as he came in.
"Okay everybody! Uh..." Buster rubbed his temples. "I got half a cast here, practice at your homes and let's call it a day! Gunter, dismissed! Meena, dismissed for now, but stay tuned, I'm gonna call you later! Miss Crawly... Please phone the ones who have left and ask them to practice. Ash, my office please!"
A/N: Try to guess what Sohn einer Hündin means. You guessed right, as it means "son of a *beep!*". Trying my best not to put dirty words into this, good thing I got Gunter to say them in another language for me! Also, I get the feeling I should stop with the puns involving singer's names, but I simply can't. Review! Thanks to all reviewers!

Overlord ii episode 1 english subbed
#Overlord ii episode 1 english subbed series
At points, this show has literally had me jumping up and down in my seat and slapping my fists together like a newborn baby. If you would like my best attempt at nitpicking the fine details I can only tell you this. I'm expecting more greatness from this anime than anything ever before, and I am sure it will deliver thoroughly and blow us away in doing so. This will go down in my books as having one of my favourite MC's. This will be the anime I recommend in the place of SAO. I was also wrong in thinking, while watching the opening scene and credits in episode 1, "This is boring" "How can a skeleton be an MC!" "Who even is the MC in this series?!" "All these characters look awful, I'll never like these!" Wrong. I started watching Overlord from episode 1 about 2 hours ago with the mindset of "Urgh another MMO/SAO/Log Horizon ripoff" Boy was I wrong. I just had to post this as this anime has completely shattered my preconseptions of it. I have more anime reviews so check them out if you want!įirst time leaving a 'review' as such, so forgive me for the unconventional approach. Rate if you found this review helpful, funny, or just like it. That's it! Thanks for reading my review! I'd recommend this anime to everyone who likes the ''virtual reality'' anime such as SAO or Log Horizon. For overall rating, I'll give this anime a 7/10. So yeah, this show is definitely not bad, but I didn't enjoy it as much. Maybe I felt like ''been there done that'' since I watched/read a lot of virtual reality anime/manga. But personally, it was not really my cup of tea. This anime is great, and it definitely has a quality storyline, characters, visuals and sound. I like most of the characters but I feel like some of them needed more (or even some) development. I'll give it a 6/10 However, I must point out that story wise, we did get some really decent characters, so I can't deny they didn't do that well. They introduced all of the guild ''NPCs'' and then they started progressing with the story without developing them much. I don't like the fact that he is really overpowered. He's not a super attractive but he looks badass. So I do like the unique aspect of the main character. Great quality, nice voice acting and great music, 8/10. I also liked the music, opening song is super catchy! I really liked the voice acting and sound in general. So for a well done animation I'll give a 8/10 I didn't notice anything unique or amazing about it, but I still think it's well done. I like the amount of detail on certain characters and the environment. Nothing spectacular or stunning, but still well done and enjoyable. So in conclusion, the story is well written and somewhat fun. One of the things I liked was the originality of the story. I'm glad that the story went in a direction that I didn't really expect. I didn't find the story interesting, and I wasn't that entertained by it (it did have some amazing moments thought) but I do see why a lot of people liked it. He tries to adapt to the world by finding out more about it.Įven thought I can't deny this story is pretty much great I must admit that I wasn't really into it as much. The story is based on a guild leader who for some reason stays inside a game after it's servers close down. Yeah I can't deny that the story is based on a ''person stuck in virtual reality'', which is basically a genre by now. I'll make sure this doesn't happen again. NOTE: Because of personal reasons I didn't use images I captured and edited while watching, but rather images I found online. So which one does this anime fit into? Is it just another ''virtual reality'' anime with been there done that predictable story? Or is it super original show with stunning visuals and amazing story? The studio MADHOUSE has some AMAZING shows, on the other hand it also has some downright HORRIBLE shows.

LND Post 2 of 3
For this post, my aim is to give a play-by-play of the "highlights" of the production, as nearly as I can remember. I've been ridiculously overthinking how to write about such a widely-despised (with plenty of good reason) show, so I'm endeavouring to forget all of that and just describe the experience like one would about any other show. I went in expecting more or less a carbon copy of the revamped Australian production that was filmed and released on DVD a few years ago. Little did I know it had been revamped yet again for the Hamburg production! So, a mixture of those two is what we're getting in the US Tour, and I must say it works. There are still significant areas of weakness, ones that have been present from the beginning and, quite frankly, there's little left that can be done about it. This will be long, and there will be spoilers for the two people on earth who don't already know the entire plot.
With that in mind...
Act I
Prologue
"'Til I Hear You Sing"
I don't know that I'll ever grow used to this song being the first in the show. However, it's certainly better than Mme Giry wandering around Deserted Phantasma and Fleck's cheesy transition into the main narrative: "Remember how it was? Remember??? (HINT HINT The rest of the show will be a Flashback, I hope you understand clearly now, I CLEARLY said the keywords Was and Remember!)." Still, having spent eight years being used to Ramin's rendition, it's difficult hearing anyone Not-Ramin perform this song right off the bat, before spending the whole show growing accustomed to their voice. Still, Gardar Thor Cortes was wonderful.
Scene 1: Coney Island 1907
"The Coney Island Waltz"
The Trio (Fleck, Squelch, Gangle) were phenomenal throughout - voices, faces, goofy antics, everything. Their tight harmonies on the eerie-sounding trio-bits...YES. Apart from the few lines sung by the Trio, this scene remains mainly instrumental. And it's where The Set is first revealed in all its monstrous, shiny, spectacular spectacle. I can't remember exactly at what point in the music this happens, but the stage suddenly bursts into life - carnival lights come on, the ensemble wander about dressed as various performers and hawkers, and my favourite bit, The Carousel (one of the animals is a White Boar, probably actually a warthog, but I am calling it a Whyte Boar because King Richard. End of story.). The Carousel is the first (if I remember correctly) set piece to showcase the Turntable, which will be present throughout the show (and at times make me very nervous for the performers' safety).
It was this scene that indicated to me that, although my friend and I were in theory only watching this show for the music and weren't expecting much otherwise, this was going to be a much more exciting production than we'd anticipated.
Scene 2: Onstage at Phantasma
"Only For You"
This, of course, is one of the cheesy 'Erik's Cheap Vaudeville Trash' scenes/songs from which one doesn't expect much to begin with. But it is the first time you hear Meg's voice. Mary Michael Patterson is amazing (get used to it, they were all amazing) - come to think of it, she may have been my favourite voice in the entire cast. Maybe. And it's hard not to at least be entertained by the stunts and antics in this scene.
Scene 3: Madame Giry's Office
"Mother, Did You See?"
This is one scene whose Aussie Revamp Changes disappointed, and still disappoint me. It probably does flow better this way, with Giry griping about Erik behind his back rather than actually to his face (though she'd probably not be afraid in the least to complain to his face). Hmm, come to think of it, it's more like Erik wouldn't bother hanging around with the Girys all that much except when necessary. Still, I liked this scene as Giry Confronts The Phantom, because it meant more Erik-solos. They took away Erik-solos and gave them to the Girys. Boring.
"Christine Disembarks"
No idea why the Playbill has this listed under "Giry's Office," when, uh...she clearly didn't walk right off a ship into Giry's office. Oh, well.
This scene is always entertaining with all the reporters running around throwing out so many wellknown names...and then there's "CHRISTINE!!" Dramatic Lights...reminds me of Norma Desmond's "YOU there..." entrance, except there is of course NO comparison, please don't kill me.
It's also sad because you see Raoul and Christine for the first time and notice all is not well with them.
Scene 4: Pier 69
"Arrival of the Trio"
"The Journey to Coney Island"
Not much to add. See "Christine Disembarks." Oh, and love Erik's shameless "Come to me, Angel of Music" plug just before transitioning to the hotel.
Scene 5: The Hotel
"What a Dreadful Town!"
The (short) transition from "Journey to Coney Island" to this remains one of the show's most epic moments. Any and all opportunities to showcase that amazing orchestra, feature specific instruments, etc - take them all! We'll eat it up!
Cue Raoul's first big Showcase My Voice moment. Sean Thompson is perfection. Unfortunately the song indicates Raoul has become a hardened, angry man with a bent for too much drinking. But, but but - here comes one of those wonderful changes - he actually relents and sits with Gustave to look at the toy music box, and even attempts making conversation about said music box. It's only for a few seconds and gets interrupted by someone at the door, but it was a much appreciated few seconds. What They Did to Raoul (or, I suppose, what Forsyth did to Raoul) remains one of the show's most upsetting aspects.
"Look With Your Heart"
Have never cared for this song, and still don't. But the scene itself is sweet.
"Beneath a Moonless Sky"
There's no helping this song. It needs to go. It tried to be another "Point of No Return," and failed miserably and embarrassingly.
"Once Upon Another Time"
Not the deepest or most profound lyrics ever written, but those tight harmonies! "We love, we live..." sends shivers down my spine every time. And Gardar and Meghan's voices complement each other so well!
"Mother, Please, I'm Scared"
This bit is meant to be nerve-wracking on so many levels... Erik's first time meeting Gustave, Erik threatening to make him "disappear" if Christine won't sing for him... But in reality this scene makes me collapse into hysterical giggles.
Erik setting Gustave up on the railing and Christine freaking out that he's going to fall - classic Mum and Dad right there.
But this is the best bit: "Who ARE YOU?!" "IIIiiiiiiiii am your ANNNNNNGEL of MUUUUSIC, and I am DYINNGGGGGG, Christine!!!!!1111oneoneone.” There's really no way to deliver these lines and NOT sound cheesy, so poor Meghan and Gardar did their best. But his delivery of this silly line showed one of his great qualities - he's very expressive with his arms. He's running towards her with arms extended zombie-style while crying "Iii am your angel of music..." It's hard to describe, but it was brilliantly amusing.
Scene 6: Backstage
"Bathing Beauty Rehearsal"
"Dear Old Friend"
Not much to say here... This song is always entertaining. Raoul's "I need a DRINK" line gets me every time.
Scene 7: The Lair
"Beautiful"
So, so so many surprises happened in this final scene of Act 1. I had no idea there had been any significant changes here. Gustave is singing "Beautiful," when all at once he begins playing the ending of "The Phantom of the Opera." And then proceeds to sing some of it. I began hyperventilating here and didn't really stop until intermission.
"The Beauty Underneath"
Admittedly, the transition from New-Beautiful to Beauty Underneath isn't the smoothest transition in the world, but it hardly matters.
New-Beauty Underneath is...wow. Although I have a certain fondness for the original London version, it always seemed rather out-of-place. This version fit so well, and the whole scene overall is one incredible, if overwhelming, spectacle. My only real complaint is that it's so "chaotic" it's hard to follow at times. I think, though, that's sort of the point.
Here is a scene where the Turntable seriously stressed me out. Gardar, crouched down with his hands on Casey's shoulders, does this backward-crouching-walk on the Turntable going the opposite direction. It feels like this walk lasts forever (in reality it's probably not long at all) and he seems to be walking so fast and the whole time you just think he's going to end up falling on his rear, bringing Casey down with him, and getting trampled. Yes, yes, I'm sure they had everything under control. But it was nerve-wracking to watch.
"The Phantom Confronts Christine"
I've loved this scene since the original cast album, and still do. I like how they've added Erik asking for forgiveness and giving Christine permission to leave, but her choosing to promise him that she'll sing first (foolish as that promise may have been). And the bit about Gustave being his "saving grace" - one of the only good things about the entire plot.
"Ten Long Years"
I always thought this was a bizarre way to end the act, but it seemed to work here. It helps that Karen Mason is a Powerhouse of a voice.
To Be Continued

THE GREAT CRUNCHYROLL RE:ZERO REWATCH Comes to a Close in Episodes 21-25
Hello, everyone! Welcome back to the final installment of THE GREAT CRUNCHYROLL Re:ZERO REWATCH! My names Danni Wilmoth, and I’ll be your host through episodes 21 - 25 of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. In last week’s episodes, we saw Subaru finally turn things around and deliver one of the most infamous rejections in anime history. We pick up this week in the midst of a spectacular battle wondering if we’ll get any sort of resolution before season’s end.
I’ve gotta say, I didn’t expect to like Re:ZERO as much as I do now. I’ve never quite bought into the appeal of isekai anime that isn’t focused on moms, but I suppose that’s because I never really gave them a chance. I also understand why some friends of mine told me they thought Re:ZERO got better as it went along and others that thought it got worse. I do think the show lost a lot of the mystery that made its first half so appealing, but by the time that happened I had already completely bought into this incredible cast of characters. I can’t think of a single character I didn’t like in Re:ZERO. Not many shows can say that.
Before that, though, I’d like to shout out Heavenspiercing for totally having my back on the whole “I love Emilia” thing:
“This is the first time he's been openly honest about his feelings, and he's saying it to Rem of all people. Why is that? Well, it's because he knew that voicing his feelings, conveying the conviction and determination behind them, is the answer Rem most wanted. Because it was that determination to never give up on those he cared about that Rem fell in love with.”
Seriously, cut him some slack! With that out of the way, it’s time to find out how the rest of the Crunchyroll Features team felt about this final batch of episodes!
This season wrapped up with Subaru finally reuniting with Emilia and apologizing for his past actions. Do you believe he’s really changed and earned this reunion? He’s still throwing himself wildly into danger for her sake every chance he gets.
René: I do expect him to still be kind of reckless in the upcoming second season—though less to the detriment of others. I hope that Subaru has grown enough so that he thinks about the impact his actions have on others from now on.
Paul: Earning forgiveness is not just about admitting one's past mistakes and how they've harmed people, but also actively working to do better in the future. I feel that Subaru has had a genuine change of heart, albeit one that isn't completely visible to the other characters yet due to the nature of Return by Death. The world of Re:ZERO is perilous, and now at least Subaru is taking bold, heroic action in order to try to mitigate that danger for others. That's what Emilia has been doing all along, so Subaru emulating her example is a good thing.
Noelle: I think it’s still a little too hard to tell. One thing for certain is that Subaru has no doubt improved himself and learned from some of his mistakes. That deserves credit! I think it’s more how the show is framing things that gives me my doubts, because Subaru has very earnestly admitted his misgivings and swallowed his pride in some respects. Unfortunately, how he views Emilia is something we’re not privy to, and that’s the biggest thing that he had to learn. Everything else though, he seems to have taken to heart and credit where credit is due.
Jared: While his apology did feel at least sincere, it still seems too soon to tell if he’s legitimately changed or not. In essence, it hasn’t been that long since the big blow of with Emilia and his breakdown with Rem, so it’s hard to say that he’s truly and fully changed. Perhaps he’s actually on the road to that. Although, I will say he kind of put himself in a bad situation since he doesn’t want to selfishly help Emilia, but prioritizing helping one person in general is kind of selfish in general, so he kind of put himself in a pickle there. I think as a whole though, I was more bummed with Emilia just wholeheartedly reaccepting him again so soon.
Kevin: I think that he’s honestly realized his past mistakes and wants to grow. Whether he will actually change or will continue to mess everything up… well, I guess season 2 could prove me wrong, but after this rewatch his track record seems pretty weighted against him just learning a lesson and moving on.
Carolyn: In real life I would heavily doubt it. That fast? Under so much stress and trauma? Healing takes time. But he did seem to mean it and he does seem to have actually learned from his mistakes. Though I still would have liked to see him step back just a bit more. He was quite confident that Emilia would eventually return his love and I guess that’s not a bad thing in and of itself but combined with his past entitlement, I would have liked to see a little more space given there.
Kara: Subaru is Subaru. He has a track record of messing up, going into the absolute depths of despair, crawling his way back up by remembering how to care about other people, and then hitting a point of self-realization. I don’t think any of those moments are worthless, because each of them shows some progress—admittedly he seems to be “three steps forward, two steps back.” For the moment, I do believe he’s realized that he was acting from a very selfish place, and I do believe he’ll at least attempt to do better. But if he got it right from here on out, we wouldn’t have a season 2 coming, would we?
David: While I doubt he will be a completely different character going forward, I do think he will be acting with a different perspective and with different priorities. That’s what basically the entire second half of the show was about, so at the very least I would hope that wasn’t all for nothing.
Joshua: Watching Subaru in these episodes and thinking back to his behaviour in past weeks, I think he’s finally matured a great deal. His apology was overdue, but it felt like it genuinely came from the heart, and those earnest feelings are likely what Emilia responded to. It was an incredibly touching moment, seeing Subaru finally process and own up to his behaviour, and to see Emilia finally receive the acknowledgement she’d longed for. Subaru’s gone through an awful lot, and he’s definitely changed for the better, so yeah—he deserved it. I don’t think Subaru’s recklessness will ever change. When Emilia’s involved, there’s no lengths he’ll go to. Hopefully there’ll be a difference in how he goes about now he’s realised the price of his own selfishness, however.
Austin: I think he’s at least become more self aware, which I’d say has earned his reunion. It’d be a little silly to expect him to suddenly do a complete 180, at least to me, so hopefully more awareness of how his actions affect and are perceived by others will nudge him in the direction of making more rational (and healthy) decisions.
It’s hard to believe we’re already done, isn’t it? For the newbies here, how did the show stack up against your early expectations? And for those who’d already seen it before, do you feel any differently about it now compared to before our rewatch?
René: I appreciated a lot more of the small things and was able to focus on the mysteries that aren’t solved within this first season, like the details of the relationship between Ram and Roswaal and why Emilia chose to pose as Satela in the first loop. It definitely strengthened my appetite for the second season and I can’t wait for it to finally come out.
Paul: Re:ZERO was better than I anticipated, and I didn't find Subaru as detestable as I thought I would. Even at his peak levels of narcissism, I could understand why he was behaving in such a bone-headed manner, and I pitied him despite how much of his suffering was self-inflicting by his own selfish actions. I didn't expect that, and I also appreciate how richly realized the world feels. There's a lot going on outside of Subaru and his circle, enough to fill entire spin-off novels.
Noelle: I think it’s one of the better isekai that I’ve managed to watch. The plot was speedy and intriguing, and I found myself wanting to marathon it instead of waiting for segments per week, which is a pretty good sign. Overall, I think I had a pretty good time, even if I still have quite a few misgivings. I’d still be up to watch season two though.
Jared: To me, it’s a tale of two halves. The first half has an interesting mystery and gimmick that keeps you invested, but the second half you have to deal with the height of Subaru being bad and the gimmick losing its luster. It also has the problem of most adaptations where you’re only getting a tiny portion of the story, which isn’t a knock against it, but is still unfortunate. I also thought at times the character writing bordered on being real bad, especially when it came to the romantic interests where they get reduced down to just being tools for Subaru’s drive and determination and that’s it. I suppose with all of that, it was worse than what I was initially anticipated.
Kevin: I’ve seen this show I think three times before, with one viewing being with my Mom, which ended after the White Whale. This time, I think I actually had a more mellow reaction that previous viewings. Sure, I still liked Rem and Subaru talking for most of episode 18, but I found more faults and nitpicks than in previous viewings. Likewise, I used to think that the last arc wasn’t really a good ending, that the show should’ve ended with the White Whale. Binge watching the series over a couple of weeks kept Subaru’s motivation at the forefront, and so the last arc now seems a lot more fitting, since his entire goal is to rescue Emilia.
Carolyn: I had never seen it before and it was very different from the impressions I sort of had when we first started. I think I was thinking it was like a video game sort of thing? I liked the fantasy aspect, I liked how dark it got. The characters are great and the story is great. I’m a fan.
Kara: Honestly loved it within a single episode. It’s got time loops, nightmare fuel, character development, more nightmare fuel… and as much as I bag on Subaru, it’s obvious that we’re actually meant to feel that way about him and want him to do better. Put me down as extremely pro-Re:ZERO… enough that I went and bought one of the shirts from the capsule collection on the Crunchyroll Store.
David: Every time I watch this show I like it more. I think the main thing I’m taking away from this rewatch is being more scared than ever about how many ways future seasons could mess everything up, but in a way that speaks to how much I like it in the first place.
Joshua: Despite having owned the Blu-rays for a while, this was my first time watching since the original broadcast! I’d say that I’ve gained a new appreciation for Subaru’s narrative arc. I admittedly found it hard to let go of my first impression the first time around, but reliving this gradual transformation made me realise just how multifaceted a character Subaru is. He’s not perfect by any means, but I wish far more protagonists had this kind of growth. I also find it hilarious that I was once creeped out by Betelguese. This time around, I just found him pitiful. Watching Subaru outright toy with him in these episodes was delightful. In contrast however, my opinion of Crusch has shot up. Rem’ll still have a special place in my heart, but Crusch is definitely best girl now.
Austin: I forgot a good amount of the details between now and when I watched it back when it first aired, but I remember liking it a lot then and still did this time around as well. Something that did apparently change is I was much more emotional watching it this time around and probably cried at least once a week rewatching it.
We’ve heard a lot of arguing ever since Re:ZERO started over who Best Girl is. We all know now that it’s obviously Beatrice, but there’s one important question left unanswered: who in Re:ZERO is Best Boy?
René: By the classical definition, I’d have to choose Puck but I’m instead gonna buy with Betelgeuse. I love out of control villains already and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka is a treasure when voice characters like this. It’s a real shame that he often gets cast as regular nice guy or well-meaning hero because him eating the scenery is just pure joy to listen to.
Paul: I'm putting my Best Boy vote down for Felix. Not only is he essential as the main healer of the series, but he also doesn't demonstrate any of the stiff attitude and honor-culture baggage displayed by other knights like Reinhard and Julius, and that puts him as prime Best Boy material in my book.
Noelle: I do love a good knight, so I am initially privy to Reinhard, but I found myself liking Julius, especially by the end. In the start, everything is framed from Subaru’s POV, so he comes off as very malicious, but it turns out he’s the type that will give respect to those that have earned it. And that’s pretty good!
Jared: I would probably also go with Felix, although I did come around on Julius near the end as well since they fleshed out his and Subaru’s relationship.
Kevin: Uhh excuse me, what do you mean unanswered? Did the White Whale erase Wilhelm from your memory or something?! Oh wait, of course it didn’t, because Best Boy Wilhelm’s sheer badassness and emotional catharsis killed it, along with any competition for the title (although even I have to admit that he might fit better as “Best Dad”)!
Carolyn: Wilhelm for sure. He’s just a good guy.
Kara: Thirding Wilhelm. Leaving some wiggle room for Al, though. He seems like a bro.
David: I pick Julius after being reminded of the neat little character arc he goes through, but an honorable mention goes the Otto the Carriage Guy, who sort of gets dragged through the mud in every timeline but still manages to be pretty reliable (when he isn’t having his mind poisoned by the White Whale’s mist).
Austin: Felix! Definitely not at all influenced by Yui Horie voicing him in Japanese. Nope. Not one bit.
Joshua: There’s simply no competition—it’s Wilhelm. His love for Theresia was both tragic yet heartwarming, but that moment when he finally avenged his beloved and was able to triumphantly put that chapter of his life to peace, was sublime. Besides, he’s a kick-ass old man who survived far more than his body should have let him, and we know he had a grumpy emo phase too!
We already know that there’s more Re:ZERO coming, are there any characters or aspects about the world you’d like to see addressed in greater detail?
René: I can’t wait for Emilia to get more time in the spotlight, so that the world as a whole can see how right I’ve been all these years putting her on a pedestal. I will have so much fun to go full “Told you so” mode once the second season comes out. Besides that, I’m looking forward to finally meeting Satela in person (since the trailer already showed her off).
Paul: Although these episodes end on a high-point, the story of Re:ZERO is just getting started, so I'd like to see more about the royal selection, more about Roswaal's plans to slay the dragon, and more about Subaru's connection to the Jealous Witch. I'd like more of everything, really. I'd even like some more resolution for what's going on with Elsa, the “Bowel-Hunter” assassin from the earliest episodes. She seemed like a major antagonist, so I'm surprised that she hasn't resurfaced.
Noelle: I want to know what Satella’s deal is! She is obviously a person with considerable influence, and is even connected to Subaru’s curse, but we never really know anything about her? It’s her cult that causes most of the problems, and we know she’s a major antagonistic figure, but what does she want? Why Subaru? Tell me more!
Jared: There’s a ton of mysteries still left to tell that I’d hope they’d get to address in the second season. Everything with Satella and why she’s very into grabbing Subaru’s heart all the time, why Subaru has his ability, what’s truly up with folks like Roswaal, the royal selection, and probably completely new things that will crop up to keep Subaru from his goal. The bad thing is though that all of that might be too much to cover all in another season.
Kevin: Basically everything that they’ve hinted at in the show. I would love to go out of Legunica to see the northern Provinces (where Elsa’s from and may well be hiding), I definitely want to know more about Roswaal’s plan to kill the dragon. What was Ram referring to when she said she’d take half the villagers to the Sanctuary? What’s up with Dollar Store Sun Bro Al? Is Subaru really the Archbishop of Pride? Why in the first timeline did Emilia introduce herself as Satella? I’m not even sure that a season two would answer everything, but I’m really excited for more, even if it mostly brings up new questions, rather than answering the ones I already have.
Carolyn: I will echo René but in fewer words: Emilia.
Kara: I’d be up for seeing any of the above, but I for sure want more Return by Death logistics. Does something in particular cause the alteration of Subaru’s save points, or is it just narrative causality? Why did he get isekai’d over in the first place? Satella, I need to know your logic here.
David: I mostly want more of the Royal Election. That concept got introduced and then mostly put back away after Subaru had his temper tantrum, but I’m very interested in everyone involved.
Joshua: I definitely want to know more about the different plot threads, like Roswaal’s scheme, Subaru and Emilia’s ties to Satella, and the Witch Cult. Betelguese said he represented Sloth and that every sin bar Pride had an archbishop, right? So that means there are others out there for us to meet too (please no spoilers if you’ve read the light novel!). On a purely personal level though, I really want to see more Beatrice. She’s such an enigmatic character with a peculiar position in the world as we know it, so I’d like to learn more about that.
Austin: I’d love to see more of Anastasia, Frederica, and Felt outside of the royal selection process, kind of like how Crusch got in these last few episodes. I feel like there are certain plot threads they absolutely have to follow on, like Satella and the Witch’s Cult, so having a little slice of getting to see more of these characters and getting to know them outside of them playing political 3D chess would be nice.
Finally, what were your highs and lows for Re:ZERO as a whole?
René: My absolute high was how the show portrayed the importance of acknowledging other people’s viewpoints and how not doing it can quickly turn for the worse. Even if you don’t agree with someone, it’s important to be aware that not everything centers around you—something that a lot of isekai sadly go against. I wish we could get more stories with an actual moral instead of just wish fulfillment from this genre.
My low point unfortunately remains the backstory of the twins. It’s probably my biggest sore spot with the series as it still stands as the one less elegant storytelling part due to it being so shoehorned. Maybe I’d even be more positive on Rem as a character if that hadn’t been the case.
Paul: My high point for the series is all of the work that went into making Subaru such a flawed but ultimately redeemable protagonist. I'm glad that he's finally pulling his own weight at the end, and although he still has to rely on stronger characters for all of the fighting, at least now he's using his brains to solve problems, rather than just going with his gut and hoping everything works out. My low point is that presently, the TV series of Re:ZERO is only about one-quarter to one-third of a complete narrative. I hope the upcoming second season has a chance to tie up some of the plot threads that have not yet been resolved.
Noelle: My high point is honestly, Subaru. As much as I’ve ragged on him, it’s so (unfortunately) rare for isekai to challenge the bravado of their protagonists. Protagonists don’t deserve to have everything handed to them, especially romance and good will, just because they’re shiny people. Subaru acknowledging his own powerlessness and that he has to prove himself instead of expecting things to fall into his lap is good. Really good. I don’t think he’s made a complete transformation, but he is progressing and I appreciate that. Low point is that the cult sure came out of nowhere. I can’t really feel this major impending threat for bad guys that sprung out of the ground suddenly. If they had a little more setup, I wouldn’t have this issue, but it felt like they were thrown in there and didn’t amount to much. The whale felt like more of a threat.
Jared: I think my high point was just trying to figure out all of the mysteries and questions that kept popping up throughout the season, even if most of them weren’t answered. I also enjoyed a lot of the side characters that showed up and the world of Re:ZERO is interesting. Low points would be how the writing shifts poorly for Emilia and Rem in the latter half. I still don’t like Subaru and think you could replace him with anyone because he feels like a generic slate. Return by death really lost its luster near the end as well because anytime something bad would happen for Subaru, you knew that he’d get bailed out by that. It’d probably worked better if this story was the length of this first season and that was it. Going forward it’s going to be incredibly difficult to put him into any sort of danger because that kind of drama and tension will be cancelled out since he’ll just come back again and somehow find a way to fix things.
Kevin: High - I absolutely love Wilhelm in the White Whale fight. We’ve previously seen that he’s a competent fighter, at least able to train Subaru, and those preceptive enough might’ve made the family name connection to Reinhart, but we finally get to see him fight all out, and get his backstory at the same time, both showing his motivation for fighting and why this fight in particular means so much to him. The same fight also shows Subaru truly in control of things for the first time in the series. He’s not just putting on a brave face or fooling himself into thinking he knows what’s happening, he is directly aiding a plan and even helping to push it forward when many others have given up hope. Low - How they decided to end the show. Back when the show was first airing, as we were nearing the ending people started speculative whether we were going to get to some specific line. No one seemed to spoil what it was (I also didn’t look too hard, for fear of spoiling it), but as best I can tell, the shot of Subaru opening his mouth was the start of whatever that line was. Sure, for fans who know what’s coming, that’s apparently a really big cliffhanger, but for the rest of us it’s just a strange way to end.
Carolyn: My high is absolutely the dark mystery surrounding Subaru’s first few deaths. Who did it? Why did it? What the heck is up with Roswaal’s castle? I was definitely into that. Low without a doubt was the scene in which Rem pours her heart out to Subaru only for him to decide he’d rather have Emilia… right after asking Rem to run away with him… right before asking Rem to stay loyal to him anyway. Geez.
Kara: Two high points. First, just the way it looked, especially the more horrific elements. There was something about the moments of horror (especially Subaru’s descent into madness on the trips back to Roswaal’s place) that really felt like a very liminal nightmare, and creating that effect well isn’t easy. Second, Subaru’s presentation as a flawed character. I see a lot of shows with jackass protagonists where we’re encouraged to forgive them everything they do, or given all the reasons why things are so bad that they “deserve” to act like a jerk. But even after seeing all his friends die repeatedly, we’re still reminded that Subaru is a work-in-progress who can and should do better. My low point is I get the sense I’m missing a lot having not read the books. I guess that’s a low point I can fix myself, though…
David: Echoing others, my high point is Subaru as a protagonist, in no small part because of how underwritten he makes other already rote-feeling isekai protagonists feel. My low point is just the general feel-bad of essentially nothing being resolved in the entire course of this season. It feels like endless plot threads were constantly being thrown into the mix but none of them were dealt with. Hopefully the second season starts tying some of those up before inevitably introducing more.
Joshua: Just so we don’t end on a bum note, for a change of pace I’ll lead with my low points! The first, is actually one I’m still feeling after discussing it last week: the second half’s juggling of the witch’s cult and white whale felt unfocused. This wasn’t helped by the white whale actually feeling far more threatening than Betelguese in the end. One thing that’s always niggled me though, is how Subaru’s returns just wipe out chunks of character development. Then, having lost that, why are people so willing to trust him without enough scrutiny? Sure, he can’t explain Return by Death to anyone, but shouldn’t more people to be asking, even if they can’t get the answer?
I echo my friends’ comments about Subaru’s character arc, especially in relation to other isekai series. As a whole though, while the genre is arguably stagnating with more and more works that are either derivative or just plain bland, Re:ZERO stands out perhaps the best in the genre. The series also really knows how to twist my heart with dramatic scenes, like Subaru pleading for Felix and Julius to kill him in this batch—such a powerful scene. I also love Re:ZERO’s characters and their emotions that allowed me to connect with them. Subaru, Rem, Emilia, Wilhelm, Crusch, Betty… they’re all great in their own way.
Austin: Something I noticed on a rewatch is I absolutely love the happy notes this show hits on. Emilia telling Subaru her name, Rem crying after being saved by Subaru, Rem’s monologue, Wilhelm avenging his wife, and so on all feel incredibly satisfying and hit at the perfect moments. All of the suffering and trial and error Subaru goes through and us having to follow along the whole way gives even bittersweet moments this feeling of relief I really really love. Alongside characters that feel more human than I honestly expected from a show like this, these scenes all got me at the very least a little bit teary eyed.
Low point on the other hand is hard. That said, back when I first watched the show I had a complaint that it really liked introducing characters and leaving it at that while showing the story was absolutely capable of fleshing them out with cases like Wilhelm. Just fleshing out some interesting characters makes me wish everyone was fleshed out; I want to know more about Felt and her upbringing before finding out she was a dragon priestess, I want to know more (or really anything) about Roswall instead of him just being a wall of mystery, I want to know more about each of the knights, I want to know more about everyone! Obviously a lot of this is due to the show only getting two cours but it still upset me quite a bit a few years ago.
